Your favorite WGP racer is Raoul; your least fav is Max
Your favorite spy is Finn
You think the superior Piston Cup veteran (besides LMQ) is Cal
Was I close?? 👀
Raoul is true; Max is false!
I'd say Nigel is my least favorite. That doesn't mean I don't like him btw! I love Nigel! He's a sweet gentleman.
It's more so, in terms of design, he's the least eye catching. (Sorry, Nigel)
Though, if you asked me this question a month ago, I would've said yes, Max is my least favorite. But that was solely because I struggled to come up with his human design. (It was frustrating to say the least :( )
Ah Raoul, my bouncing, blue, rally racer. I just think he's so cute! Always cheery, and fun loving. Perhaps he's just as much of a daredevil, living on the edge kinda guy, just as Miguel. Always ready for a new adventure.
I also made a Co Driver OC, so I suppose I'm just very biased at this point XD
My favorite spy is NOT Finn!
So, false! Holley is my favorite actually! I love Finn, I think he's awesome, I just like Holley's design and her thing for technology just slightly more.
The Superior Piston Cup Veteran, is the King himself!
False! Sorry Cal, but Strip is so iconic! I love his chill and laid back personality a lot. He gives me sweet, yet wise uncle vibes.

In 2004, NASCAR introduced the green-white checkered/overtime, so no race would finish under yellow, as well as the Chase (which would later become the Playoffs system).
The 2006 Piston Cup still operates by an older ruleset, though, where the Champion is decided by straight points, which suggests they also don't have a green-white checkered. But do they race back to the caution or not? (Prior to 2003, when a caution flew, cars still raced for position to the start/finish line; in 2003, the caution rule changed so that the race freezes at the moment the flag flies.)
I was thinking about this in the shower last night, because when Lightning chooses to stop before the finish line and help The King finish his last race, he's at a point in the race where it would be easier to win than not. It would be easier to keep momentum across the finish line, and infinitely harder to come to a complete stop on track like he does. Unless you're wrecking, there's no point in a race you'd come to a full-stop on track under green, because it's really hard!
It would have been easier for Lightning to cross the finish and loop back around to push The King to the line. He'd have been back around in 30 seconds; The King would've even finished on the lead lap, because Lighting would still be behind him. But he doesn't.
He makes the explicit, physically difficult, choice to stop.
And then I thought, oh my GOD, if the tower had thrown a yellow for Strip's wreck, the race would've ended under yellow, and what if their positions were determined by the scoring loop, and Lightning won whether he crossed the line or not? WHAT IF THAT RUINED HIS LIFE because he didn't get to lose this race like he was trying to.
In a normal race, that yellow probably would've gone up immediately for a crash like Strip's--but then, maybe not. It wouldn't really have posed imminent danger to any other racers, because there were only three on track and none were behind Strip at that point. Strip technically also wasn't... on the racing surface any longer, though if EMS were gonna rush out there (which apparently they did not) they'd still want the yellow. The Piston Cup in general seems stingy with their yellows, but when/whether a caution flag flies is a constant controversy in NASCAR.
CAN YOU IMAGINE...

atsv cars au
miles morales is lightning mcqueen, a hotshot rookie racer in the piston cup who has an arrogant attitude and a speed that is faster than anyone else
gwen stacy is sally carrera, the lawyer who loves her little town and falls in love with the racer as he grows and changes over time
pavitr prabhakar is mater, who's a goofy and lovable best friend who ships the HELL out of miles and gwen
miguel o'hara is doc hudson, who used to be a racer but was kicked out of his lifelong passion for it after crashing in '54 and fled to radiator springs, wanting to forget about it. The arrival of miles makes it hard for him however.
and finally...
the spot as chick hicks, the competitive and cheating old racer who wants nothing more than to win, no matter the cost
question is… SHOULD THEY BE CARS OR NOT??

How do you think Doc would have reacted to the LA 500 crash, seeing his boy wreck worse than him?
Oh god I completely forgot I had asks open this has been sitting here for ages whoops sorry OP.
Honestly, I think if Doc was still around, Lightning wouldn't have crashed. Doc would have pulled him into focus earlier and made sure Lightning didn't let let other racers get to him or trained him differently to ensure he could keep up with the next gen.
But assuming the crash happens anyway, it would destroy him. He would definitely blame himself. Doc had always silently vowed to himself that he wouldn't let Lightning meet the same fate in the racing world that he did. Doc would be kicking himself constantly – he failed in so many ways – as a former racer, as a crew chief, as a doctor, as a parental figure.
He would keep replaying the day over and over again in his head to find where he could have changed the course of events that unfolded, whether it was calming Lightning down, pulling him out of the race when he got distracted by Jackson, or giving him better instructions.
After the healing process, I think Doc would be very hesitant to let Lightning back on the track, both out of fear of him crashing again and of Lightning being met with the same harsh treatment Doc himself faced from the racing world.
But while racing obviously runs through their veins, I think that Doc would look at Lightnings crash in a different light than he saw his own. It's different watching it happen from a third person perspective to someone you love. Theres an extra layer of dread and uneasiness. While he hoped for a "big comeback" back in the 50s I think Doc would realise how much the Piston Cup has changed – especially with how advanced next gen racers have become in such little time. The competition and stakes are far greater than they used to be. I think he would become protective and repeatedly reassure Lightning that its okay to quit. Things aren't like they were back then. No one would think lesser of him if he didn't go back.

Piston Cup Racers Hcs (i lost track which part alr... Travel edition!)
Ill just do the cars 1 trio first because i am sleepy and this is too long but i havent done hcs in so long and id rather do this than any work so.
Strip Weathers
Honestly? Wants to take Lynda out to a fancy restaurant and just spend time with her, or even go admire the scenery together.
Very chill. Does not over or under pack at all, somehow.
Will, however, end up talking for a couple of hours to some random strangers about racing, somewhere.
This normally happens when Lynda is shopping- but only on occasion
Sticks to his wife like his life depends on it (because it does. he sucks at navigating)
Tries to experience as much of the culture as possible!
So. damn. polite. No one can get angry at him for trying wrong.
Can probably master an accent within a week with some unseen talent
Likes the freedom that comes with not being recognised a lot (im going off this that like outside of usa ppl don't know much about nascar and so this applies in carsverse to the piston cup like everyone knows its there but like. not intimately familiar)
Makes the most of it, but hates the plane rides
Chick Hicks
Shopping. Bro can never get enough of shopping and it is an issue (for his finances? yes. for his ego? nah.)
Will probably get drunk at least 3 times while sampling the local alcohol (not so much of 'sampling' more of taking shots :skull:)
Preens at every opportunity he gets recognised, probably- (yes.)
lowkey brings the 'other countries are cool but my own country is better' vibes. but only because he hates being left out of conversations and god damn it is annoying when he can't understand jack shit of what everyone else is saying
therefore he tries to go to english-speaking countries as much as possible
would taste-test the cuisine and make a rating for every. single. meal.
gets lost in the airport, nearly misses his return flight. barely makes it though
business-class traveller. will probably start talking to the person next to him VERY loudly and with no regard
Lightning
I mean come on we've all watched cars 2
As polite as can be (i have to be a good representative of USA racers-)
Still manages to get at least 2 speeding tickets every time he travels
Packs too much, paranoid something will happen he's not prepared for like you never know
souvenirs!! and definitely buys doc a fridge magnet from every trip. doc keeps them all on the fridge, but never talks about it unless forced to
'oh sally would like this'
if he buys anything, it'll probably be some nice clothes for himself - man's got a decent fashion sense
makes a joke and realises everyone else probably don't understand. whoops.
visits archeological sites if there are any! (a huge history nerd. especially for his dinosaurs hehe)

What do you think of the headcanon (I have no idea where I saw it first but it isn’t mine) that despise his arranging attitude in cars 1 Lightning is the only Piston cup racer who hasn’t done anything problematic enough to be cancelled (yet)
honestly, i think its impossible
first, cancellation isnt really a thing in nascar unless a driver did something like. a literal crime. but rather, every driver has haters, and every driver makes mistakes
race fans tend to find a lot of things problematic, they even like to add it onto their pile of reasons to hate a driver even if its the tiniest of things — so, in this case, lightning most definitely has some haters and “problematic behaviours”. even cal and bobby would have their moments
i’ll use an example from real life and say that being the most popular driver (which is probably extremely easy to achieve for lightning every awards season) definitely has gained him some people who’d like to see him crash head on into a wall (if you see the way every chase elliott hater treats him, you’ll understand what i mean)
but, also, lightning has anger issues. anger issues and racecars dont typically mix well, without a doubt lightning has acted on his angry impulses and retaliated against another driver for something irritating. this would gain him either a suspension or a penalty (most likely a suspension for a few races), and a brand new group of people who hate his guts. it’d be used as something problematic because safety, sportsmanship, and emotional maturity is something that a lot of race fans look for.
all of these things added up would probably make lightning a controversial — has a lot of fans, but a fair amount of haters who are quite passionate about it — driver for most.
his attitude in cars 1 before the tie breaker race probably made him have less fans, maybe a few stuck along for the ride just because they would be able brag about cheering for the 18 year old rookie who wouldve ended up being the youngest driver to ever win a piston cup, but for the most part some of those fans had to be grasping at straws to defend his honour and their own. however, at the tie breaker race (this is where sportsmanship and emotional maturity come in) his act with strip weathers would have gained him way more fans — a lot of them coming from strip to cheer for lightning after the king retires. also, having a historically famous piston cup driver as your crew chief most definitely gained him even more traction and affection.
maybe his next season his anger issues begin dying out with care, and those knee-jerk reactions stop becoming as common, but its just human nature to be angry with people you think are stupid, so hes not all innocent.
anyways, he still definitely doesnt have a clean driving slate. no driver does, to be fair, they’ll always be hated for something or other - but i feel lightning is still on the less hated and problematic side (along with both cal and bobby — those two are relatively tame compared to him, they may be even less hated than he is)

Pixar’s Cars is still way better than people give it credit for
Am I writing an essay on a kids movie that fell out of relevance after the last sequel seven years ago? Yes. Is it my favorite background animated movie to put on whenever I’m working? Yes.
It goes without saying that Pixar’s catalog is still topped by movies like Incredibles, Toy Story 2, Up, Inside Out, Finding Nemo, Ratatouille, etc. Cars sat at the bottom of Pixar’s “best of” list until its sequel came out and people realized how bad Pixar movies could actually be.
But you know what? I love Cars. Is the story as deep and moving and profound as some of the others? No. But it was made with love and after what feels like the past 8 years of resounding “meh” coming from Hollywood and some of the most shameless cash grabs pretending they’re not, Cars remains my feel-good movie. It doesn’t have that classic Pixar “cry your eyes out” moment, no dead parents, no chosen ones, decently low stakes. It’s a good time, anytime.
Why I’m writing this now, though, is because of this: I knew already that the King and Chick were based off real racers, and Lightning’s “McQueen” is another homage, but I looked up if Doc was also based on a famous racer during my last rewatch and found this on Wikipedia:
Doc’s car model, the Hudson Hornet, was manufactured from 1951-1953 for its original run. In 1954, its manufacturer merged with another company and the Hornet was heavily remodeled to boost sales, only the popularity of the car never recovered. It stayed in production until ‘57. It was used in racing and that’s where Doc’s paint job in the finale draws inspiration.
But do you remember what his backstory is? 3 back-to-back Piston Cups from ‘51-’53, a crash in ‘54 that saw him rebuilt, and obsolescence upon his return.
People complain that they “didn’t need to be cars” in this movie. They’re not like the toys in Toy Story where the plot and message depends on them not being human. They’re not like the fish in Finding Nemo. They could have just been humans who drive race cars and it raises more questions than it answers.
You are wrong, Sir.
Doc’s backstory is why they had to be cars. They aren’t human because the story depends on them being machines – as Cars 3 explores more deeply. A human endurance runner can train to be the fastest, running against other humans with the same chances at success (ignoring steroids and socioeconomic opportunity). Humans aren’t running foot races against mutants or aliens where, no matter what we do, we will lose by nature of what we are.
Cars do. A car model is beholden to its manufacturing and all the complications that come with it. Cars are objects that, like toys, have obsolescence built into them. There is no “outdated” way to run a foot race.
So yes, Doc has a Tragic Backstory(tm) but it’s not just that he was some great master at the top of his game once that faded from glory like any human who got too old. He’s a car, and no matter how good he was, how many Piston Cups he won, the powers that be that made newer models with better mileage and efficiency and mechanics were always going to dethrone him.
The movie isn’t about him, though, it’s about another rookie. A rookie who lives life in the fast lane and thinks his time in the spotlight is never going to end when Doc can look at him and know exactly how wrong he is. Lightning is a race car too and, regardless of the existence of Cars 3, Lightning will also inevitably become obsolete no matter what he does to fight it.
I doubt the writers were going for this when they wrote it but that they’re machines is also a criticism of how we treat celebrities. Lightning is an entertaining story until the next shiny starlet emerges and, through no fault of his own, he’s kicked to the curb for the “new”. And that new will be cast aside for the next new and so on and so forth and the only winner is the greedy producer making money off their cash cow until they drain it dry.
Yes, the movie is about appreciating life and the things that you do have and “the friends we made along the way” but that they’re machines matters. Had they all been human, the movie would have lost half its message, and half the tragedy. If they were human driving cars, Doc wasn’t written with a disability so he could have, in theory, hopped back behind the wheel of a new car and still won against younger drivers. He’s not human, he’s a car, and he isn’t built to go as fast as newer models.
Age affects everyone, but a world made by machines that pits machines against other machines in an endurance test is inherently rigged when the machinery being tested can always improve.
It is unfortunate that both Doc and the King go out in wrecks (even though the poetry is nice) and the story doesn’t explore the existential obsolescence of being a machine designed to only do so well and be improved upon – even Lightning still has to wreck out of his big race in Cars 3 before he starts losing to the newer models.
But maybe having a Cars movie that does explore the existential obsolescence of a machine might have gone over kids’ heads. Or, maybe not? They pulled off some very mature themes in Incredibles with marriage problems and presumed infidelity that kids probably didn’t understand but still knew was not good for the characters.
Not to mention all the other wonderful details in this movie: The car-pun cities on all the license plates, the tire tracks in the sky and car-shaped natural phenomena, all the creative sponsoring brands on the racers.
How the “Life is a Highway” montage hits you over and over again with a straight road that cuts through the winding nature (the snaking river, the mountains sliced open to make room), industry that stops for nothing and scars everything in its path.
If you haven’t watched this movie in a while, do yourself a favor and find time to do so.

i know literally nobody asked but i need to talk about something i find very Odd with the cars fandom here on tumblr
and that is - your use of real life people in the cars universe.
darrell and bob are fine, theyre actually canon and important to the storyline (but its best to keep in mind that they have very specific and prominent real life counterparts which you should obviously be very conscious about when headcanoning and writing)
but where my issue comes in is how some of you treat dale jr’s cameo in cars as if it was gospel, and how it somehow means to you people that dale sr was not only in the cars universe - but also died in the cars universe.
i personally dont see junior in the cars universe, i think it was a silly little cameo and thats it. i dont think its appropriate to write about real life people.
especially, when Some of you (i wont name names), actually WRITE FANFICS ABOUT DALE SR’S DEATH. THAT IS WEIRD. i dont think you guys understand how strange that is, to be writing about a real mans tragic death for an animated movie that his SON made a CAMEO in. this seriously rubs me the wrong way, do you not SEE how strange that is??? a real life human being lost his life racing and some of you are using it as a chance to WRITE a FANFICTION about how it affected the “piston cup racers”.
there have been.. so many moments in the history of nascar that you could be writing about that dont involve a real human being getting killed, why is this specific one the one that so many of you fixate on? stop headcanoning real people. keep sr out of your headcanons because why are we all of a sudden so casual about putting random situations and experiences on real man that died 😭 that is such odd behaviour 😭
plus i dont think many of you realize the effects this had on not only his family, but his fellow racers — one racer and his entire family was quite literally sent DEATH THREATS for “killing” him. its a horrible situation that you should NOT be writing about.

i want to show y’all my oc i made today :D
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
her name is Octavia, and she was one of strips old racing friends! they had a friendship like cal and lightning
she stared racing in 1967 at 17yr and died in 1996 at 46yr with 4 piston cups
she raced for a cigarette company that went out of business in 2000
octavia had a couple nicknames on the track as well, such as:
-“The Kings Executor” bc if you had a problem with strip then you probably had a problem with her, and she dose not let things slide (this lead to her and chick fighting, a LOT)
-“She-Devil” she was a VERY reckless driver and she still holds the record of most fights on track in piston cup history
how strip, the nicest rookie the the track became best friends with a gremlin like octavia, no one knows 🤷‍♀️
my poor boy roger was pulling them out of so much shit, it was unbelievable 😭
i’m also working on another oc named sam thats also in their little group of racers so stay tuned for that 😛

Do you know what happens to Jackson Storm after the big race in the third movie? He kind of just disappears, and we never see what happens to him.
I don't think anything happens to him! He's just not, ultimately, what is important to Cruz or Lightning in that moment; the scene does not include him because their thoughts don't. Cars 3 is ostensibly driven by rivalry with Storm, except it's not. Even though Lightning often narrates his goals through he idea of rivals, he also regularly FORGETS that these cars are his rivals or that they exist at all (there are scenes in both Cars 1 and Cars 3 where Lightning needs to be reminded of Chick or Storm lol). Perhaps they're usual tools ("for motivation!" as Cruz would say) but it's never really about them. Anyone on the Piston Cup circuit will tell you that when you're on the track, you're racing yourself. (You may also be racing time, grief, change, the past--)
This is how race broadcasts work, too. A race might have any number of storylines playing out in the actual field, but the broadcast needs to pick a few to follow. It's a live event, and over the course of the run they likely choose wrong a few times; but when the checkered flies all the storylines drill down, essentially, to one: Who won?
The 96 team's mid-race switch, Cruz's rookie venture, her win, are all storylines that blow Storm's losing out of the water. Even Storm putting her in the wall doesn't really matter, because that's racing, that's all happened before. Cruz using the wall to flip over Storm for the win? Yeah, they'll be talking about that one for years.
I think Storm was there; that cameras just weren't for him that day. It's likely some reporters still approached him for comment, maybe for radio or print press rather than the TV broadcast, but he may have chosen not to comment. Racers do that sometimes. He probably didn't stick around. And while he probably hated all of this, seethed about it, made it very personal, the Piston Cup's storyline isn't ultimately personal to him, and it's probably a grace that everything that happened was so monumental in its own right the Piston Cup didn't need to nurture the "rivalry"storyline.
Honestly, the fact that the big story of the weekend wasn't at all about him probably spared Storm a lot of grief, because then he doesn't need to live the "rivalry" storyline for the next couple weeks, or however long it takes for the storyline of the season to shift. He's not "the guy Cruz beat" because who took second that day doesn't matter at all. And while a young racer's career is built on being able to keep your name in the headlines and your livery on screen, this time, it's good that it's not. That if you're not first you're last.
You show up to the track the next week, and it's another weekend, another race. The Florida 500, as it concerns anyone or anything that isn't Cruz Ramirez, is quickly becoming yesterday's news.
There's a whole season to race, and Storm is going to win a lot of it.

IGNTR Headcanons
Tumblr media
The IGNTR team are a tight nit family team, despite having a tough exterior. Ray and Gale gets massive headaches trying to make sure their pities and racer don't cause any trouble. Especially Laura and Jackson.
One of the IGNTR’s bosses, Carl Hussell, was determined to have Jackson be the number one racer and beat Lightning McQueen (for both personal and business reasons), that he have Jackson do massive amounts of training.
Only Ray and Gale interact with other teams. The pities and Jackson don’t really interact with the other teams until after the 2017 Piston Cup Championship.
After winning the 2017 Piston Cup Championship, the team celebrated in an arcade that Jackson would go to before he started racing.
Tumblr media
Jackson Storm:
Is Japanese-American, with his mother being American and his father Japanese. Is the youngest in the family with two older siblings.
Use to work in the arcade Ray found him at before entering online racing competitions.
Gotten into physical fights and chases with other arcade players. Sometimes the police would get involve, but they never could catch Storm.
Made friends in the arcade, despite all of them wanting to act like their were just acquaintances. Jackson mentally kicked himself when he realizes that he didn't correct Ray when the truck called his friends "friends."
Jackson - despite having trust issues - values loyalty and trust. It's just gonna take awhile for him to warm up to strangers, even longer if they're the competition.
Lightning McQueen and Cruz Ramirez were the only racers Jackson ever trash talk to during races. He doesn't interact with any of the other racers (both veteran and next-gen) until much later.
Jackson can play dirty, especially when pushed to the edge, but he ain't no cheater. If you're paired up with him, and he finds out you cheated, he's not going to cross that finish line for you.
Tumblr media
Ray Reverham:
Ray was Jeff’s crew chief before the racer retired and became a sports journalist.
Despite being grateful that IGNTR for hiring him and Jackson, he doesn’t always follow what they say and IGNTR can't really fired him because if Ray goes, then Jackson goes.
After leaving Mr. Biggs, Ray was planning to let Jackson get more free time from training, but IGNTR wanted their racer to be the best as fast as possible despite his objections.
Whenever Jackson or any of the pit crew members messes up big time, he'll have them mop the floors of the IGNTR headquarters for weeks.
After Jackson rammed Cruz to the wall. Ray have Jackson not only mop the IGNTR headquarters floors, but took away his gaming privileges for a month.
The more he trained Jackson, the more he noticed that the racer may have mental health issues than he realizes.
Despite not being his crew chief, Ray is happy that Tim Treadless made it to the racing world.
Tumblr media
Gale Beaufort:
The mom of the group who tends to be the one who gives life advice for the team. Even Ray comes to her for advice from time to time.
She the most social of the group and would converse with the other haulers. She even formed a close bond with Mack.
She values her appearance, she just likes being shinny. The team gives her good products to help her fell happy.
One time she wanted to go to a mall and accidentally took Jackson with her. It took Jackson suddenly asking why there were there for Gale to realize she forgot Jackson was still in the trailer. He still teases her about it to this day.
Tumblr media
Laura Spinwell and the pities:
Laura Spinwell is the phone addicted, main mechanic of the pities. She is also highly arrogant about being the smartest one of the team who is rarely wrong about anything.
Knows about 95% of racing history, which benefits Jackson, who needs to keep up the “always been a racing fan” image for the press.
Done massive amounts of research on racing tricks that's been done in history. One racing trick she’s research was the 360 flip, but due to the trick never having documented success, she concluded that it was “scientifically” impossible (Laura never consulted with the IGNTR scientists if this trick was possible) and it was just a myth.
Whenever Jackson messes up, Laura would go up to him and do the “idiot sandwich” bit. Jackson and Laura made a deal that if she was ever wrong about anything, he'll get to call her an idiot sandwich for a month. (Laura Spinwell was called an idiot sandwich for a month after the Florida 500 race.)
Laura would have her fellow pities eavesdrop the other teams, while she focuses on their social media accounts. She needs to know if there’s any rumors, drama, or schemes going on for her team. She’s frustrated that almost none of the new Dinoco members (except for Cruz) have any accounts for her to follow.
They all tend to go behind Jackson, Ray, or Gale for protection whenever they get trouble with the other teams. Mostly Jackson, because he doesn’t really ask questions.

thinking about cars atsv au and how harv would be like
imagine being Miles’s parents. Your kid wants to be a racer, and has been passionate about it for a long time. They get enrolled into a racing academy and after passing they get noticed by a talent scout who SCREAMS suspicious behavior. His demeanor feels too friendly, too slimy and cynical, and your 18 year old son doesn’t know this because he’s just too excited to start racing. Under this new agent’s wing, Miles starts to…change.
He starts to become more snarky and prideful, even having the same habits his agent has because of how much influence he has (such as that really weird habit he has using the nickname “baby”). It gets to a point where Rio and Jeff feel like their son is a whole new person, and not in a good way, and he’s completely ghosted them for a life of bling and fame.
But they still watch over him through his races, and at one point it feels like there’s no hope left for their boy to come back. But then, they watch the tiebreaker race, and they see him give up the piston cup to help out Peter b Parker in his last race. They see that same compassionate, kind boy back.
They forgive him with a long hug when he decides to apologize to his parents in person, just glad that he’s the same person they loved growing up again.

CARSTOBER 2023 - Day 10
Favourite Piston Cup Racer: Lightning McQueen and Chuck Armstrong
Here you have another generic sky with clouds bkg bc that's all I can do drawing at 2 AM 😅
Anyway, I chose to draw both my favourite main Piston Cup racer and also my favourite secondary racer to give the other racers some love, so I drew Lightning and Chuck bc this racer is pretty iconic despite his short screentime thanks to the "I can still race" line XD (also the fact that his damaged variant diecast is amazing 😍)

Hope you like it ☺️

holding my hands out like a kid at a candy store asking what you think Lightning and Sally would be like at formal events. like getting invited to parties after races and such
im gonna say i saw this, i sent it to roe, and she said it was probably her favourite ask we’ve ever received but we had no real ideas BUT WE HAVE IDEAS NOW. DO NOT FRET. im so sorry it took so long for me to get to you 💔
okay so. First off. i feel like lightning is a very casual, “you’ll have to physically hold me down to get me to wear anything fancy”, kind of guy. he would rather die than wear a suit. BUT, he listens to sally, and sally likes these formal events because it means they get to dress up together and look all cutesy as a couple (he will wear a suit if its for a date so Dont Worry, but the formal events are like fighting to get a cat in water or a fish out of it.)
so, more often than not, sally is kindly asking if he’ll dress up to go to the piston cup event, and more often than not it ends with him shaking and crying in front of the bathroom mirror trying to figure out how to fucking tie a tie because no one taught him. he only cooperates if its sally wanting to go BUT he will argue.
but when he gets to these parties or events, he forgets how much he Hates what hes been forced to wear and Boy can he brighten up a room. he gets one drink into his system (obviously very rarely, i cant see him enjoying alcohol too much) and all common sense or care is Gone he will embarrass himself in front of every other person in that room. this can Also be caused by the urge to try and fit in with the rest of them and just doing it Wrong.
sally, on the other hand, takes it slow. she has half a drink throughout the entire evening and mingles with lynda or some of the other racers partners, sometimes she has to go get lightning and bring him back to the table for food or just because hes getting Visibly overwhelmed but is Not realizing it himself or Trying to poorly be calm about it.. but she also brings a life to the party. i think she likes to dance, i think she maybe isnt the best at it (but to her credit, lightning cant dance for shit either) so she’ll dance with Her friends or lightning and it may be kind of embarrassing but she doesnt really care!! she likes these events quite a lot, it gives her a chance to engage with what lightning does for work and she can make friends she can relate to (and share anxiety with regarding race days..)
lightning will either find himself with sally or with bobby and cal, both of whom usually stand around doing nothing interesting and he has to collect them to bring their trio together. they both make fun of him for having to dress up so much, bobby gets complete freedom to dress however he likes because nobody in his family is really a major part of his piston cup career (and he doesnt have a partner)((and to clarify his family 100% supports him theyre so so proud but they dont have ANY idea what exactly these events entail so they stay out of his way)) whereas cal usually has to keep up the nice appearance because of that Weathers Family Name. he doesnt mind, he likes dressing up anyways, plus after the accident he had to go to a majority of events with his aunt and uncle cause no one could watch him. so hes been Trained for this day.
anyways, i think theyre both very proud of each other and they both Very much show it, especially at these events, theyre very lovey dovey and theyre silly and and. Yeah thats all the ideas i have 😭
