After playing through Hollis's Hotstreak, finishing Boss 1, and getting through the Casino Mission, I just want to applaud all the fanfic writers that did one-shots of Hollis apologizing to Raz because oh my god
At the beginning, I was quickly having a hard time liking Hollis cause of how dismissive she was, but then actually playing through the level and hearing her speech? Perfection
It makes me appreciate those fics where she acknowledges she was in the wrong, especially when the writers throw the interns into the mix... speaking of which, I can definitely see why people like the interns, but also god it was hard to see them egg Raz on and then only doing shit last second and acting all buddy buddy cause like HE'S JUST A LITTLE BOY LEAVE HIM ALONE—
Props to the voice actors and designers because I do adore their voices and character designs, but as I stated before, playing through that level makes me happy their are people who've written fics where they own up to their shenanigans
Which also reminds me: I would love to see someone explore how some of the interns mentors talk to them about what happened with the casino mission; I specifically have the idea of Compton and Sam or even Morris and Milla talking about what happened with Raz and seeing how much of an impact the little guy has had (consider the conversation with either one where they're not mad but disappointed at the two respectively)
This also relates to another idea I thought of specifically with Nona: more specifically, consider a fic where she hears about the hazing and then invites herself to give Hollis's class a demo on hydrokinesis or just honing ones powers in general and just absolutely fucks with all the interns as a lesson for messing with her pootie (bonus if she shamelessly shows favoritism for Raz); let the little old lady put the fear of God into those teenagers who are all too aware now that they hazed the grandson of a war criminal (alternatively, just consider the interns getting more work from their respective mentors as a form of punishment for doing that)

I don't care if it didn't get mentioned in the final game, in my mind, Morris Martinez is 100% one of Milla's orphans.
Which means: 1) Morris most likely lost the use of his legs due to the fire. Like his spine got injured by falling debris.
2) His levitation powers probably saved his life and made him the perfect apprentice for Milla
3) They both either know and Milla is super protective of him while he's just super chill about it all and happen to be alive
4) Or they don't know -- maybe Morris was too young to remember her, or he just never put two and two together for whatever reason and never realize his old caretaker being super similar to his mentor isn't a coincidence and vice versa -- and they're going to have an extremely intense and emotional "reunion" at some point when they both realize who the other one is.
5) They also said Morris is from East LA, meaning Milla is either also from there, or he was moved there after the fire, or was adopted by a family from there
This is seriously my new favorite fucking intern backstory holy shit holy shit HOLY SHIT

Sam walking into the Junior psychonauts common room with a suspiciously large jacket: Hey Norma!
Norma eyeing sam suspiciously: Sam..do you have something I should know about?
Sam gripping the large jacket that has an obvious animal shape under it: no

Hollis deserves to retire honestly idk how she manages to be the only employee in the psychonauts (including the founders) who isn’t down with blatant child endangerment and not lose her entire mind. “Blah blah raz is more capable than most of the psychonauts” he is also ten entire years old. That is an elementary schooler they’re making save everyone thrice in one week. Maybe the other psychonauts should be better at their jobs.

Psychonauts 2 post-game takes place shortly after the main game (main game probably taking around 2 days (arrival, lucktopus mission, post-mission, and night of Maligula's attack)).
In Rhombus of Ruin, we know that the trip was also at MAX 2 days (one day in finding Truman and one day spent at the Rhombus considering that Malik got the delivery of his body done and was still in the mail by the time the crew gets back with Loboto and Truman's body)
And then we know that the first game flowed into Rhombus of Ruin. And of the total time on screen we see Raz spend at the camp, we see the night he arrives, the day he spends learning powers, the night he spends saving the brains, and the day he is supposed to leave.
Again, he also took at least a day traveling to the Whispering Rock Psychic Summer Camp and arrived on the first day.
Given all this time, we can assume that Raz most likely started his adventure on the night of November 28th, or on the night of the 5th of April.
Timeline of Events probably
November 28th/5th of April - Raz gets the pamphlet and gets inspired to run away November 29th/6th of April - Raz arrives at the Summer Camp November 30th/7th of April - Raz learns his psychic abilities and saves the brains. December 1st/8th of April - Raz is about to go home, when he's recruited to join the Rhombus mission. It would probably only take the day to get to the Rhombus, considering the state of everyone. December 2nd/9th of April - Raz and co survive the rhombus and bring Truman back in time for Raz's first day as an intern. December 3rd/10th of April - Post Lucktopus mission and return of Maligula December 4th/11th of April - Post PN2

Give me the rundown on your dudes in as much or as little detail as you like
I put up the OC asks thing the other day and then just went ham on updating my references and toyhouse instead whoops!!
Basic rundown of all my psynauts ocs for u <3
FIRST IS THESE THREE:
Tumblr media
they're my characters that aren't directly related to any of the canon characters . jameela's an intern a few years after the events of pn2, gusty is a whispering rock camper and also temporarily lives at the motherlobe, veranda is an agent who works with them both in their collective story.
jameela is the highly intelligent daughter of tech guru dallas delmarro. she has incredible inventing skills that are aided by her psychic abilities, namely her precognition. her precognition is both a blessing and a curse, especially when she keeps seeing horrible apocalyptic doom scenarios.
gusty is a rowdy ragamuffin who accidentally gave his entire town brain damage when he found out he could abuse the psychic power of confusion to do whatever he wanted. he was mostly unaware of the repercussions of his actions. after making his own living situation unsafe, he was taken in to the psychonauts, becoming one of the "motherlobe kids" while his town was put under observation and check-ins.
veranda is a 30-something new zealand immigrant who loves cowboys and the wild west. they feel like they've been running from their problems for years now. they had a fear of growing up when they were little and accidentally time-bubbled some of their child relatives as a teenager. ever since they've been afraid of making the wrong decisions AND of being around children.
NEXT is my Oleander family members
Tumblr media
midge is oleander's mother. she's got a potent sad energy and mostly keeps to herself.
eagle is an all-american boy scout who makes his mother proud.
rock is the oldest brother who eventually works in the butcher shop with his father. both rock and eagle bully morry when he's little (well, a little kid....)
NEXT is the Zanotto family members
Tumblr media
laurel is bob's older sister and truman's mother. she was an artsy jack of all trades, she was a beatnik and avid music-festival-goer in her younger years
jonny is truman's father, laurel's short-term psychic boyfriend who disappeared under mysterious circumstances (he was doomed)
delphine is truman's ex-wife and lili's mother. she has a big fancy corporate banking job. despite being a total workaholic she calls lili on the phone every single night <3
AND THE OTHER ONES!
Tumblr media
ophelia was a distant relative of houston thorney who lived at thorney towers when loboto was a patient. she is the mother of his mentioned child (who is bobby zilch in my hc) and she also died because of a longstanding "family curse"
lester was a character i made for an oleander fic that's in progress. he was originally just going to be in the beginning chapter as a kid but i also decided on a way to bring him back as an adult. maybeeee someday i will write that part of the story too ^__^
nostradamus is my least developed oc, he's more of just a brain concept and a character design.... one of these days i will find a way to tie him properly into the universe.
thank u 4 ur time <3

posts some incoherent poorly articulated pontification about how raz has very powerful mental defenses (a mind like an armored tank, to paraprase oleander in the opening cutscene of pn1) and it seems like part of his thematic connection to loboto that the latter's first appearance in pn2 also involves a display of his mental defense system and the counselor trio commenting on how difficult it is to navigate his mindscape
(also as a sidenote, remember that raz still isn't actually a psychonaut at this point, or even officially an intern yet, so really the only reason he and lili would be involved in this mission is because as weird as the circumstances are, they're two of the three people on the jet who know the most about loboto and his thought processes)

just thought about Milla talking to Sasha about something he likes (aliens and whatnot) and Sasha just starts hard core stimming. He's just standing there shaking violently and jazz hand-ing and smiling and he's so excited he can't stop stimming.
Also i think Sasha has very particular stims, like he'll do jazz hands, or he'll start shaking when excited (I do that) or he'll crack his knuckles or he'll shake his hands like you do when your hands are wet. he has so many stims. all of the stims. he's the stimmer of all time
he has this one stim where he'd squeeze the nearest thing to his hand.
one time that was milla's hand.
Milla still thinks about it every day it makes her very happy
I typically like aligning my headcanons with canon in some sort of way, but that’s just a personal preference. Sasha stimming headcanons actually land in this strange area for me because I don’t really bring up stimming for him specifically very often(in posts, in my personal headcanon doc, etc.), and I actually don’t see a lot of people being up stimming for him either. And I think there’s a very important reason for that: Sasha’s stims are really subtle.
Think about it. Throughout the games, Sasha is standing relatively still throughout. His arms don’t move really wildly like the “extreme high level autism” stereotype. And for a little while I thought that he just didn’t stim in the games. But I think he actually does.
In RoR he has that smiling and looking around animation. And compared to how stiff his movement typically is to how wide his upper body is moving, I think that motion could count as stimming. Plus, the context of that animation is that he’s in a really cool space-alien (imitation) aircraft and is naturally super excited about it.
I could only really think of two examples of stimming in PN2, in Loboto’s Labyrinth and in the plane on the way to the casino mission. When Raz meets up with Sasha after the construct starts to collapse he’s already lit a cigarette, and waving it around, due to the chaos. Though his tone of voice and general demeanor seems calm and collected, he’s actually internally freaking the fuck out. Everything he built for the mission is literally falling apart into a sensory nightmare of moist flesh, saliva and hardened calcium. Interesting note about this level, Sasha is for the only time in the games not wearing gloves. Later in the trap room, he’s just pacing around the exterior of the room aloof and unaware of his surroundings(“Sasha, how long as that golden door been there?”). Along with the pacing, Sasha actually repeatedly flexing his wrist while holding a cigarette appears several times throughout PN2. And that definitely feels like a stim to me.
The second example I have, in the plane on the way to the Lady Lucktopus, is also pretty subtle. It’s the animation when Sasha says “It’s crucial that we find out what these Deluginists are up to at the casino. With [Hollis] handling tactical command I’d say our probability of mission success has risen 35%.” While talking he’s fiddling with the room keys found on Nicks body, rattling it, waving it back and forth, at one point flicking it up and catch it… This is actually the first instance watching it happen where I said “this is just straight up stimming.” I mean it’s in the center of the screen and everything.
Headcanon-wise I typically follow patterns presented in canon, so stretches or walking around and repetitive wrist/hand movements. Stuff like absentmindedly clicking a pen, adjusting the cuffs on his outfit, cracking his knuckles(like you said), flicking his hand(like you said), maybe removing and putting his gloves back on again? But yeah, something in that range. I wouldn’t necessarily agree that “he’s the stimmer of all time,” I mean I frequently bounce/flex my legs and I couldn’t really see Sasha doing that.
I do think that he’d have a cute/sassy response if anyone saw him randomly just do a stim and question what the fuck was that. Like someone saying something stupid/redundant in a meeting, Sasha coincidentally flicking his hand, being prompted about it, and him just not skipping a beat going “sorry, that suggestion was so terrible I had to physically distance myself from that idea.”
I like the hand squeezing idea though! Like Sasha just grabbing something nearby to fiddle with in his hands, and accidentally grabbing Milla’s hand? That’s really cute. Them both getting flustered over it, and Sasha apologizing, Milla interrupting the apology to say that it’s alright, but then Sasha continuing to apologize anyway saying “the subconscious works in strange, unexpected ways to the waking mind,” and then Milla blushing in response. Really adorable.
Along with Sasha increasing the frequency of stims when he’s describing something he really likes to Milla. And she’s enjoying that she’s never sees him this animated before and can’t help but smile.
Thanks for the…ask? Was there a question…?

First of all, congrats on destroying the BIG TOP! So to speak. (I'd ask if you could give it to me but they haven't invented that technology yet). Secondly, since you asked for Asks, what got you so into Norma as a character? I wanna compare and contrast. :V
hahaha THANK YOU! some day modern medicine will unlock the secret to equivalent exchange… some day
anyway, great ask because i Always have stuff to say about Norma. putting it under the cut for length (although to be fair, if you don’t want to see lengthy impassioned essays about Norma i’m not really sure why you’re following me in the first place)
first of all: i unapologetically like women who kinda suck. listen, okay, listen, i absolutely understand that the line between “fun to dislike” and “just obnoxious” is different for everyone but Norma falls entirely on the fun side for me. from her very first appearance, she’s so unnecessarily petty and snarky and competitive with this ten-year-old she literally just met, and i can’t lie i just find it incredibly entertaining. and also, y’know, i think she sucks but in a way that’s ultimately harmless and also so believable. she’s not a terrible person, she’s just a shitty teenager. i’m a Norma apologist, not in the “she did nothing wrong <3” way but the “yeah she’s mean but that’s what’s interesting about her” way. give me more female characters who are complicated and unlikable and make bad decisions!
secondly: she’s a shitty obnoxious know-it-all teenager, and boy, do i relate! maybe part of this is filling in the gaps and part of it is projection, but i look at her and i see someone with the compulsive need to “win” every conversation and prove they’re the smartest person in the room; someone who clings to their model student status because deep down they’re afraid it’s the only worthwhile trait they have, the single thing that makes them anything more than a useless waste of space with no friends and no redeeming qualities. characters who are jerks or bullies are really interesting to dive into for me, because there’s always something underneath that. Norma’s combination of annoying pretentiousness and deep insecurity is really compelling to me, and a lot of it is because i see my younger self in her. i feel like i really grok her as a character, and because of that i find her interesting to explore and write for!
thirdly, the big thing that drew me to her the same as it did the other interns was, ironically, their lack of screentime. PN2 has one too many ensemble casts, and individual development for some of the characters feels rushed, and i am first in line saying i wish we’d gotten more intern content. but what we did get was just enough to pull me in and hook me on the characters. the game left me wanting more, and honestly that’s what drove me to write so much fic of the intern cast in the first few months after release. they were so charming and felt so underutilised and i was desperate for more from them – and at the same time, because they had fairly little screentime they made a great starting point to develop further with headcanons and filling in the blanks and just turning them over in my head and imagining what could have been. what really gets my creative juices flowing is taking something from canon and building on it with my own stuff (which is also why i’ve gotten so invested in the future AU!), and the interns all have such strong concepts and starting points while also giving a lot of freedom to develop them and flex my own creative muscles.
like, i was thinking about why i never really got into the psychic 7 in the same way, and i think it does just come down to them being more fleshed-out characters in comparison. which feels so funny to say, haha – i love the old people’s club, they’re great, but i never latched onto them like i did the interns, and i think it’s because they don’t have the same fill-in-the-blanks potential. we get to learn about their backstories in pretty great detail, we get to explore 6/7 of their minds, and they all feel very succinctly developed but in a way that ties a bow pretty neatly on most of their characters. we learn so much less about any of the interns in comparison, but those unanswered questions just end up tickling my creative brain that much more. there’s a theory that people engage in transformative fanwork to give them the kind of engagement they didn’t get from the canon, and i think that’s definitely true here! maybe there’s an alternative universe out there where we got way more intern content and i never ended up writing any fics with them in, hahaha

@thefallen16 idk why you asked this on my main but the way I'd roughly drafted my own sburb au would be something like:
prescratch, humans, the psychic 7 as children in the 1930s and all the period related nonsense that entails. Lucy and Cassie are here and not in their respective childhood home countries because reasons don't even worry about it. They play out a version of sburb absolutely rife with like teen level drama and then something absolutely buck wild messed up happens and they have to scratch the session, which kinda acts more like a timeline reset than a full universe reset?
post-scratch we have the events of normal psychonauts play out, raz finds sburb in the woods at camp but doesnt do anything about it until a while after pn2 timelinewise, he and the interns and lili play sburb and all the adults and p7 get roped in somehow
not a perfect set up it could be better but i like the idea of the p7 teen au from folks like @/curi0uscreature and wanna incorporate that into more concepts hahah

Say all your psychonauts 2 thoughtS
All of them huh? I think about this game so much, I’d be here all day, but this certainly gives me a good excuse to ramble about some things I love about pn2. :D
- The characters are amazing! 10/10 I care about pretty much all of those freaks. The art style makes them all look so charming in a lopsided weird sort of way, and the game is so empathetic to everyone that even the characters we don’t get much of or who serve a limited purpose still feel well rounded and real.
- Raz is excellent. He’s loads of fun in the first game and continues to be a blast in the second. He’s even more adorable and earnest in the sequel and I love that for him!! He’s definitely one of my favorite characters of all time, I adore him.
- Adoring the characters goes for everyone though. And pn2 has a whole new cast of characters who are all super fun in their own ways. The Psychic 7 especially are super cool. My biggest soft spot is for Lucy, but I love Bob, Ford, and well, the rest of the seven really, a whole lot. Getting to meet the Aquatos is also awesome, and the interns are cool too. Lotsa cool groups of characters to enjoy.
- The story? Awesome. Feels grander than pn1 to be honest, and I like that, but also it’s completely great on its own. It’s got loads of mind shenanigans, drama, great mental health commentary, and manages to balance out all the trauma with enough healing and empathy and even a bit of humor that it all still feels nice and hopeful despite everything. Like yeah there’s a lot of angst material certainly, and as a fan I gotta love that, buuuut sometimes I need a piece of media to punch me in the gut and then give me a warm hug afterward.
- On the note of mental health stuff, I feel it did great. It’s noticeable that they talked to experts and people with personal experience. They were able to convey the mindscapes of certain traumas and mental health issues with more accuracy. The first game was certainly empathetic and kind in regards to that, which was a big deal at the time, buuuut the accuracy was a bit lacking back then. Pn1 shows it’s age a bit in that regard. Pn2 improves on that wonderfully with both kind and more researched explorations into the mind.
-The morals regarding the complexity of the human mind and the messiness of humanity and how we often make mistakes and have more to us under the surface… heroes are often flawed, villains may just be a version of a person we made up in our mind based off of our limited perceptions… aughh good stuff. There are so many good takeaways from psychonauts 2 and I love it!
- Also on a more personal note, I probably owe this game my fascination with psychic powers and psychics in fiction. It’s tangentially what got me into Mob Psycho 100, and has inspired me to make some psychic ocs. The art direction really impacted me and even the way I draw. My style has opened up so much more since practicing drawing such funky looking characters. I genuinely think it has helped me improve a lot and helped me discover more about what kinds of art style I adore and inspired my own. The gameplay too, alongside the art direction, has impacted my aspirations a lot as far as being an artist and hopefully to work in game design— which is to say it’s super inspiring! I think it can inspire people in a myriad of ways, it’s a very unique game like that, and it really reminds me why I love art, storytelling, and games so much. I genuinely feel I owe it a lot for a variety of reasons and I’ve seen many others who play it feel the same. :)
TLDR: Psychonauts 2 my beloved…
Thanks for the ask! I will never not want to talk about psychonauts, this game is sticking in my brain for good.

thinking about him still. hollis husband
his name is hubert hidesythe and hes the motherlobes cool epic stoner uncle.
id say his specialization is clairvoyance ans time bubble. maybe projection?? (helmut's thing) maybe hes more of an intelligence guy than field agent. hes hollis' like. second in command. her right hand man.
He's really good at what he does despite seemingly being a lazy bum.
they met as junior agents. had a romance sashamilla style but Hubert actually had the balls to ask Hollis out. They look like oil and water next to eachother but their chemistry is unmatched.
you dont see him during PN2 bc the guy was taking a vacation. Hollis refused to go (shit was too busy in the hq atm) but made him go anyway. By the end Hollis finally joins him in vacation time. They return like weeks later and the interns-now-agents are just FLOORED because who is this MAN how is he HOLLIS' HUSBAND what kind of WITCHCRAFT was involved bc theres no way.
sorry i just think he's SILLY okay.
