have you seen/would u recommend pacific rim 2? ive heard some things about newt and idk lol

I feel like Im in the minority that actually did think pru was fun but that being said it ended SO abruptly and with like three separate plotlines completely abandoned that I was really frustrated for days after watching it until I had processed everything and had time to think deeply about it lol it just seemed rly unfinished?? it feels like it was deliberately made as 1/2 of two sequels and there needs to be one more to tie everything up. actually I’m gonna ramble abt this bc I have a lot of thoughts (obvs spoilers under the cut)

the thing about the second one was that I genuinely was enjoying it right up until it ended because I swear to god the moment the end screen went up I yelled "what the fuck, that's it?" out loud into my bedroom bc I was so SHOCKED that THAT'S how it all ended, because it just seemed so incomplete?? Like it seemed like one half of a story, that will only be made whole if there's a third one to tie up all the plotlines that they didn't go through with in the second and if that's the case then I will be completely fine with it but if it doesn't or if they dont have a third one at all I will stay so frustrated lol. one silver lining to this is that the vibe of this movie was so different from the first that it almost feels easy to separate it and just imagine it as an AU if you prefer which is sort of nice; usually if a piece of media I like does something bad I feel all gutted and anxious and terrible that this is the canon I have to accept, but something abt this movie just made it feel like it was sort of a totally separate deal. maybe cuz only 3 of the original characters were in it idk

to start off: I felt like there were a couple of plotlines in it that were just sort of introduced and then never seen through which was very ????? Amara & Vik's weird hate-rivalry thing was one of them; Vik instantly has it out for Amara bc she’s jealous, which is a very interesting concept, and then this prompts Amara to become hostile right back at her, which is also a very interesting concept, and then it never got resolved at all? like they couldve done something really cool with those two but it just never went anywhere. and then there was sort of a weird love triangle thing happening between Jake and Nate and Jules that felt so weird bc it had no significance to the plot at all and it felt like it was only thrown in there for the sake of having ~romantic drama~ idk maybe I wasnt paying too much attention and there was more to it than that but it really just seemed like they wanted to put romance in there and didnt want to bother to put any work into it

BUT the thing about romantic sub plots is that THERE ALREADY WAAAAS OOOOOOOOONE which brings me to the biggest frustration I have w this movie because--and DISCLAIMER, this was also my favourite plot point of the movie bc it was by far the most interesting, the biggest reason for me enjoying the movie at all, and the bit I feel like should have had WAY more attention--Newt and Hermann were like legitimately in love in this movie I swear to god I was watching it and thinking “this is GENUINELY the most blatantly gay thing I’ve ever seen in a feature film and I know that straight ppl are very talented at writing gay romances completely by accident so it’s possible that they just accidentally did it this way but also it is REALLY goddamn obvious oh my gooood?” (and then I did a lot of frantic googling and found out that I was right and Charlie Day & Burn Gorman knew what the fuck they were doing and I felt so validated lol), and yet despite this, the movie had them speak for the last time almost at the halfway point of the film and then spend the entire second half apart and not talking at all and even at the post-credits scene where Jake and Newt talked for a bit Hermann wasn't there?? not even behind Jake to give Newt any searching glances?? Nothing??

dude...Newt being possessed by the precursors is a HUGELY interesting concept that actually makes sense and I wish it had had more attention. I’ve seen a lot of ppl say that pru butchered Newt’s character and I don’t 100% agree bc like...being possessed will change you lmao so while yes I’m obviously sad that he wasn’t himself, I feel like it made sense that he had a slight personality change, because it...wasn’t him anymore. we don’t really see the Newt we all fell in love with in the first movie. we THINK we’re seeing him, but halfway through we find out we’re wrong.

my critiques with that plotline are basically that I wish the reveal had happened a little bit later on, and I wish that it had been a little more obvious I guess?? like, we definitely get hints of it (when Hermann excitedly asks Newt to help him with a dangerous unorthodox project and Newt says “dude why are you doing something so risky when we’ve already got a good plan in motion? just wait for that to be done, it’s fine” and Hermann IS us, he IS the audience when he reacts, because this is a completely insane thing for Newt to say. Newt, who, in the first movie, was so obsessed with finding knowledge that he went behind the marshall’s back to literally risk his life doing something incredibly dangerous just to see what would happen? being given the opportunity to do the same kind of dangerous frivolous act and refusing? this is blatantly out of character, and Hermann is all of us when he’s shocked, “what, you mean you...won’t help me??” which means it wasn’t bad writing on their part, it was purposefully supposed to stand out as something that was wrong and something that we needed to pay attention to. that was a really good scene to hint that something was Not Right with Newt), and I wish there had been a bunch more like it. I think the reveal should have been saved for the end of the second act; I think that should have been the moment that act 2 of a story usually has, that dreadful event that happens that leaves the main characters feeling completely hopeless and unsure what to do.

I also wish that he had managed to break through more than That One Scene, I think it would’ve been more dramatic if he’d had a few moments where he managed to take control for a second to remind us that he’s still in there and still fighting, and I’m sad they didn’t do that. I saw a fan comic that touched on this idea and I think it’s brilliant, even the idea of him suddenly getting a nosebleed and acting distracted to show that that’s the Real Him trying to fight through would have been sooooooooo good.

I also feel like it didn’t make any sense for Nate to be the one to subdue him in the end, I dont even think those two interact at all so like, why was it him?? it would have been so much more dramatic and heartbreaking if Hermann had been the one to confront him so they could’ve had a little conversation on the roof where Newt could once again break through for a second before getting taken over and then Hermann could like idk have a taser hidden behind him that he uses to subdue him and THAT wouldve been a way sadder and more interesting way to do it. I also think Hermann shouldve been the one to speak to him in the post credits scene, or to have him in the background behind Jake just watching him sadly so we can get a couple shots of intense eye contact like UGH I just wish there had been more interaction between the two of them after the reveal happened!! When the movie was over and I realized they never spoke again I felt so upset!!! they're soulmates!! they're literally in love!! this has been CONFIRMED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and segueing in from the soulmate thing, another thing that made me sad was that nobody came in pairs anymore :( aside from Newt and Hermann, they were the only ones gjdfk but in the first one every character had another character that they were paired up with, both for drifting reasons and just for plot reasons (except Chau and Tendo but I’m pretty sure there's actually significance to that too), and in the second one it just sort of felt like everyone was drifting with each other with no strong connection needed and that made it feel way less special. granted, the movie takes place ten years after the first one so in that time maybe technology advanced to the point where you didn't need a strong neural connection to drift anymore, but for the sake of the story it would have been way better if they'd kept the whole soulmates concept from the first one, it made it way stronger and more special

so yeah in conclusion I did think pru was enjoyable and I probably would watch it again some time but also it definitely pales in comparison to the first one and I’m desperately hoping we get one more so they can tie everything together and FIX THINGS KFGH it’s not too late!!!!! I wish I could write Pacific Rim 3 I genuinely think I would do a good job I love storytelling and I’m very passionate about these characters!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

fitting in had never been something you had to concern yourself with. you were always the shiny new toy the other girls wanted to play with, bright like a dropped coin from a magpie’s beak. wherever you went, you seemed to leave a trail of awe, pig-tailed harriet’s adoring you, imitating you, teachers forgiving your class-time chatter for the sake of your wild heart and the restless spirit you possessed. tell us what it’s like in the states, alma. they’d coo, enamoured by your hollywood drawl. does your father own a gun? you hardly knew. barely even knew the colour of his hair, for the scarce amount of times he’d stoop to kiss your cheek, though you’d tell silver-tongued tales if it’d guaranteed you an audience. when you learned how to smile at the right times, and that flattery would get you everywhere, it soon became apparent that charm would pave the yellow brick road to success even when your lack of drive couldn’t.

BRANDON ARREAGA — Well, if it isn’t JAMES POTTER, the GRYFFINDOR superstar. For those of you who don’t know HIM, you can spot them sitting with the other SEVENTH years. Most people think that they’re CHARMING and INCISIVE, but they can also seem pretty DEPENDENT and INEXORABLE. Sometimes people call them the SHEPHERD. Sure, they’re a PUREBLOOD, but that doesn’t define them.

i literally have 0 explanation for why i did this other than i’m in love with him. but also, he’s a mess, so jot that down. if you wanna know more about him ( protip: don’t ) then i recommend checking out his pinterest and then i dunno.... contemplate why i’m a punk ass bitch, i guess. enjoy this mess. plot with me. ily.

james henry potter ( named for two his two grandfathers, maternal and paternal respectively ) was born on april 4th, 1960 to two of the most loving parents a child could have.

fleamont and euphemia had been trying for a child for years. they’d been together for basically all of time, having been that typical good-looking, well liked couple in hogwarts that everyone always just assumes will get married ( spoiler alert: they did ), however had had to postpone kids due to fleamont’s brief stint as a professional quidditch player for eight years following their graduation. after that, they would try every month for a child, and after many years of disappointment, eventually gave up. it was during this time that fleamont developed the sleekeazy hair potion which only added to their immense wealth.

finally at age forty-one, they were surprised with the arrival of james. obviously, they saw him as their miracle child, and as such he was pampered and completely spoiled from the moment he was born.

i cannot stress enough how much this spoiled upbringing shaped james into the person he is today. if you’re wondering why he was ever an arrogant prick, it’s because he was always used to getting absolutely everything he ever wanted. he grew up with money, he grew up with fame and with every bit of attention he could garner, and so it was really no wonder he was a bit of an asshole by the time he started at hogwarts.

obviously, james had a pretty cushy childhood, and as such, shit didn’t start getting real until he started at hogwarts.

it took all of three seconds for the hat to sort him into gryffindor, and i guess you could say he pretty much considered himself to be the gem of the house. he was the absolute epitome of a gryffindor, basically considered him the poster boy and all but expected everyone to love him.

really did not help his ego to know that everyone did.

in typical sterotype-gryffindor fashion, james hated slytherin. he had always been taught growing up that purists were basically the root of all evil, and his father had had no qualms in lumping all these people in with the house of the snakes. james and his friends took a particular disliking to severus snape almost immediately for the poncy way in which he seemed to believe he was superior to all for his intelligence and his house status, and this dislike only grew when lily evans was tossed into the mix, too.

for basically the first four or five years of hogwarts, james really was that stereotypical arrogant asshole that he’s often made out to be. he always got everything he asked for, he was incredibly popular and incredibly intelligent, he had the most amazing friends and his eyes on the most amazing girl. he was set!! shit was good!!

shit was not good, though. definitely was not.

despite having known of remus’ furry little problem since second year, things didn’t really start to settle in james how awful it was until third or fourth year. he hated seeing his friend in pain, he hated that he couldn’t help, and so he rallied the boys to put into action their worst plan yet!!!!

becoming animagi!!!!!!

it took fucking forever, obviously, but by the end of fourth year they did it!! we stan icons

except then in fifth year shit hit the fan again in just, like... so many ways

first, it was the whole severus ‘mudblood’ situation. honestly, james was absolutely furious. he’d always hated snape but this just made everything 1000 times worse. even if it had happened to anyone else, he would have been fuming. but for it to have happened to lily like... yikes.

this was also a horrible time for james though because lily rejected him for the thousandth time. like, look, what a yikes thing to think when she was just called a mudblood, but frankly he was sick of being rejected and he was sick of being the asshole who kept pressuring her so that was the breaking point --- he gave up on her.

and tbh, he changed a lot from here on out. grew up!! became a better person bc he saw how horrible snap was and decided he was sick of horrible people!! saw, recognised and acknowledged that just bc he was hot and intelligent and rich he wasn’t always going to get everything he wanted ( see: miss evans ) and just generally learned that oh shit the world doesn’t revolve around him!!!

oh and then there was that whole thing with sirius and snape and Remus the Werewolf and ohhhh boyyyy.... that infuriated him.

he loves his bros so much and y’all know he would die for them, but to see his friend abuse remus’ pain and suffering for his own gain was heart wrenching. it just pushed him further to pull him in line, to realise that not everything was about games, or petty rivalry, or ‘ getting the girl ’ --- life heartache and mistakes and it was never going to go the way he wanted it to.

now look, this isn’t all to say that james is now a Super Strict, Super Intense, Brooding Weirdo. he’s still a bit of a child, and he’s still a bit of an arrogant prick, but ultimately what wins out is his morals --- every time. he wants to lead the world to a better place, without war and without hate, he wants everyone to have the same opportunities he had as a kid and he wants nothing more than for blood purity to be eradicated.

now in his final year, james is always flipping between taking his role as head boy deadly serious and turning it into one big game of mischief. he’s still a marauder at heart, after all, and has definitely abused his power sometimes for the benefit of fun and games, but when it comes down to it, he can be very strict and lowkey paternal. the leader really just.... popped right outta him, it came to play and it came hard, and really you’d think he’s minister for magic with how serious he treats it sometimes.

i hate him.

he’s a lot less intense with his hatred for slytherin’s. he has come to recognise that not everyone from that lifestyle is going to be the same, not everyone who grew up a certain way or was sorted into a certain house is going to think with a deadly mind, and while he’s still a bit wary, he’s a lot more relaxed about it, especially as head boy ( gotta at least pretend shit’s fair !!! )

ok i’m so tired this is abt to turn into a rambling mess

uHhhHHh he’s very dependent as in like... boi cannot go a week without his friends. he is used to having people to bounce off, that’s always the type of leader he has been, and as much as he would probably be amazing at anything on his own, he’s never really tried. too scared!! i hate him!!!!!

super unforgiving. like, if you have gotten on his bad side.... i’m sorry. it is going to be very difficult to return from there. his moral compass is pretty black and white, you’re either good or your bad, and if you’ve done something he considers bad wELL sucks to be you, i guess. sorry not sorry.

takes his quidditch very seriously tbh. so many people have told him he needs to be a pro like his dad, but he’s like haha fuck you i know what i wanna do ( hint hint: he wants to rule that goddamn auror office, make that shit far more efficient then he thinks it is now ). but srsly, he’s so intense abt the game and it really like... idk gets him in the zone, keeps him level-headed in amongst all this chaos.

Yuzuvier and friends - speculations and headcanons from FaoI 2018

Mishas tweet today got me thinking....

first of all, of course he is right, it has always been and will always be stupid to try and get skaters to do certain things and confront them with their own assumptions in private. Yet in my opinion he should have just ignored it, stupid ppl are everywhere and it will never stop no matter what you do.

Speculations are for fandoms and I am going speculate the living hell out of you guys... this is not about judging the fans who did it or Misha. This is about Yuzuvier so here is what he wrote:

All right and true, yet it got me thinking about why he would feel the urge to admit this, if he himself did not feel the need to explain it... for it might not have come from him in the first place.

Maybe Yuzu just wants to enjoy these 5 weeks to the fullest. He really wants to act without thinking to much and might have asked his friends not to post pictures with him online this time to prevent more rumors and stress for him and them.

When I heard about the beautiful hugs Yuzu shared with Javi at Faoi and the sweet chitchatting while practicing alone together. How Yuzu was draping himself over Javi on day 3 and how he playfully offered him a carnation, I was really bursting with joy and if you read my blog I already wrote about how I came to the conclusion that Yuzu decided to sign for all shows last minute because he felt the loss of Javi while he was in Torronto and he might very well have met Javi there at that time (who moved out of his apartment during this time).

This might have been a very emotional time for both of them and being confronted with the finality of it might have made Yuzu want to spend that time with him and try to make up for everything they missed out on during these last years due to many reasons, one of them being media and fan pressure and fake news.

Well now, so Yuzu really goes full on cuddling with Javi and likewise (even in the shows... he might be so sweet with him backstage.. ) maybe he even spends time with him beyond that again now.

So its only natural he does not want too many speculations or photographic evidence and his friends respect that of course.

Put one example : once i went to Burger Place in Hollywood , and saw Famous “Zendaya” (The Greatest Showman) with Her Father making an order. Very wanted to ask for sign or pic, but didn’t. Because known, she have very little time to be private, so i have to respect it.

He might have just used a strange example here but the way it is it sounds like he's saying he respects the limited amount of time Yuzuru can spend in private with ppl he chose so he does not interfere? If any of the things I assumed before are true (that Yuzu chose to make his presumably last time in a long time together with Javi count) then that makes a whole lot of sense though.

This might be their time... the first time without any rivalry. This is what they are now and its beautiful. Ever since the Olympics and CiONTU they seem to be closer than ever. its beautiful to think it could be like that and also very sad to imagine it might be the last time for them to be able to spend this much time together.

If it had only ever been this - a rivalry and nothing more - then there would be nothing left now and yet they are more loving and happy with each other than ever.

Okay, I'm wanting to binge Ninninger in the next few days. Any thoughts before I go into this head-first?

yes, so many. ok number one thing to know about me is that i am ninninger’s biggest fan so i freely admit to my bias (it was the first sentai i watched live all the way through) but also... i really love it. and it gets a LOT of hate which is mostly undeserved. yes it’s a bit of a mess but in an endearing way imo? the plot does kind of meander near the middle but i think the characters and themes make up for it a lot.

firstly, the characters: i mean, you’ll either hate takaharu or you won’t. i think he might be one of the most hated red rangers i’ve ever seen which is :/ he’s such a good kid, he’s sweet, he loves his family, he’ll do anything to protect people. he’s kind of dumb, yes, and loud and he says his catchphrase too much but it’s a show for kids so... people are just gonna have to deal w/ it. of the others: yakumo, kasumi, and kinji get the most development by far. i think they’re interesting characters although your mileage may vary on yakumo (he’s kind of... bizarre, just, as a concept). kasumi is widely regarded as one of the best female rangers ever (a classification i don’t care for because all girls are perfect always in my humble gay opinion) but she is really amazing. easily the smartest and most powerful of the team, and she gets her own villain rivalry (with a DUDE villain :o) near the end which is pretty awesome. kinji is... perfect. i love him dearly. he’s adorable and funny and he starts out as an assassin cowboy, ends up getting adopted by all the ninningers, and has the coolest powerup ever:

how anyone can hate ninninger when it gave us THIS is beyond me. of the other two, nagi and fuuka are kind of shafted but fuuka makes up for it with an INCREDIBLE showing in the ninninger returns movie (seriously, we made our friends who dont watch ninninger watch that movie and they loved it. invented feminism tbh) while nagi has some good emotional plots near the middle of the show, although it’s mainly him supporting other members of the team. so not a perfect season in terms of giving characters equal focus but it gets a lot of hate for being overly red-focused when imo kinji, yakumo, and kasumi easily match taka in terms of focus? they also eased off the red focus a lot partway through the show and i think it was because of the complaints about taka. again, your mileage may vary. but taka never even gets a red-exclusive power-up or anything, everything is shared by the whole team so... i dunno what ppl are complaining about there.

secondly, the themes, and i think this is what makes ninninger a far stronger show than people give it credit for: ultimately, (and this is just my reading, of course) the show is about family. the main five are cousins, they’re mentored by their grandfather and taka/fuuka’s father, and it’s all about who’s going to succeed grandpa as the ‘last ninja’. but it’s also about generations and traditions, and how sometimes, parents can fuck up, and how the children of the new generation (the third generation, in this case - the grandchildren of the last ninja) can put things right where their parents messed up. and how just because things have always been done a certain way doesn’t mean they should stay that way (seriously - the whole arc where kinji officially joins the team and becomes a ninninger makes me cry because it’s all about the kids taking a stand against their grandpa and going “no we want kinji on our team and we don’t care if you won’t accept him as your student”). this also shows up later when they get their second big megazord and have to figure out a way to create zords because the old ways aren’t working for them, and then again in the final arc, when they set right grandpa’s greatest mistake and really earn their happy ending. and what they end up doing with the end shuriken and last ninja title, but i won’t spoil you too much. it’s really heartwarming though.

so i think coming it at it knowing that it’s not just a show about ninjas (and then being annoyed when we get cowboy backstory angst and random game show themed fillers although again... don’t know what people were complaining about because the fillers were ridiculously fun. but maybe i am just easily entertained.), but about family, legacy, and traditions helps a lot. i know there were complaints about how it barely felt like a family sentai because the kids were just cousins and they didn’t really seem to be that close, but i think the real family theme in ninninger revolves around kinji, and the team accepting him, and how you don’t need blood to be a family or have a place to belong. and kinji was really the center of ninninger because he was the one paralleled with grandpa and [redacted for spoilers] and he highlighted the theme of past generations vs. new generations, how the kids made their own family and their own place in the world as ninjas, and also how you don’t have to follow tradition exactly, especially if it’s stupid. you can make your own tradition and it can be just as good. and i think that was the most powerful message of ninninger and a really good message in general, especially for the kids watching.

other than that, i mean, it’s a sentai - it has villains (kyuuemon was easily the standout, the others are kind of forgettable, although magnetsu has the rivalry w/ kasumi which i loved, and one of the generals has the creepiest fucking plot twist which i won’t spoil but it was. it sure was something. pretty entertaining though. all the yokai monsters speak in puns constantly. main villain was also forgettable but some sentais are just like that, y’know.) and suits and zords and whatnot. lots of filler but i thought it was fun filler. except yakumo focus episodes those were always kind of bizarre. it has LOTS of cameos but even if you haven’t seen hurricanger/kakuranger/magiranger/whatever i think they’re still fun. the ninninger returns movie saved my goddamn life.

overall... i think the best way to binge ninninger is just to have fun with it. it’s just a fun show, y’know? some episodes are weird but you’ll get through them. it has some really strong themes that you kind of have to root through all the filler to get but i enjoyed it all. i am easy 2 please and ninninger was cute, fun, and not overtly sexist which is really all i need from a toku show honestly.

Okay WOOOO. So hey, I'm here doing a DR pre-season, because? I am cracked, a mess and SOOO EXCITED. Also, I looked up fun words, to find something to use as my confessional codeword, and "brouhaha" means "a noisy and overexcited reaction or response to something" WHICH IS SO APPROPRIATE. So woo, enjoy the brouhaha that is my excitement for this season. I just wanna say a couple of things: 1) Nicholas and Julia posting those clock gifs is gonna make my head fall off, thats so scary. If it means past season twists like someone said in the VL, I'm NERVY. RoseGold POVs are my biggest fear, and I know there was a season where prejury was all about them so YIKES. Calling it now, I'm gonna get sent home by a rosegold PoV. 2) Emily and Lukas was such an iconic F2, no matter whomst the F2 is in Orre, we will never match them 3) I wanna make some pre-season picks of who I expect to see cast, that way if they win, I can take total credit. I'm feeling like Raffy, Sammy and Aren might be in the cast, based on literally nothing khajsdfla. Raffy as a player terrifies me (I was also the person who brought him into this community so whew), but he gets CRACKED so whew! Aren is a scorpio so we stan. ANYWHO. I'm so excited for this season, its gonna be a HOOOOOT.

Hola, did you miss me? This is going to be me reflecting back on my Johto experience and trying to point out the mistakes I made, and how this game will be different. (this is before cast reveal) The first mistake I did in Johto was go against the premade. I was wary of Connor and Ari, and I thought painting the target on the returnee wouldnt only be easy but would be successful. And then I found out that I couldn't, and then Connor made friends with everybody on my team and fucked me over in the long run. The second mistake I did in Johto was being messy. A prime example was making pseudo "alliance" chats in order to sway the vote for people to keep me. This proved to be unsuccessful. I also had a mental breakdown like every night, so that just buried me more. The third mistake I did in Johto was throw the veto the week I was nominated. I felt like I couldve won it but I decided to study for my test. I didnt compete in the pov that i shouldve won. SO now its time to do what I need to do for my redemption is quite simple. The last 3 ORGs ive played for BB i have made 2nd, 4th, and 3rd. And I learned quite a lot To negate my first mistake I'm not going to publicly target anbody. I will join the mob mentality to ensure my safety in early weeks. To negate my second mistake I am going to keep all my alliances as 1on1s. No alliances bigger than 3 people, and make sure to keep whatever information I have to myself. I will not snake out any information. To negate my third mistake is to try in all competitions. I will not throw anything I will not submit for anything unless I really cant. If I give it my all and still leave I can't beat myself up that bad. I'm nervous, but I'm ready. These freaks aren't gonna know what hit them.

Okay one hour to premiere! The fact that I've made two DRs pre-season? thats wild. I am gonna give a go at predicting the cast, based on... borderline nothing, beyond paranoia: Veronica Constance Raffy Autumn Olivia Eddie Elmo Hals Sammy Aren Those are guesses I'm confident in, so I'm gonna stick to that! Lets see if I get anyone right ajlkdsfas

WHEWIE. Okay I tried filming a video confessional, but my thoughts are such a mess, so I've decided writing it out will be considerably more coherent. YIKES SO. This season is already so wild, like this cast.... is gonna be a lot. I already can tell this season is going to have lots of fights and I don't know... how ready I am for that eeeek. But otherwise, my illiteracy means I don't understand the lottery twist so I love that. The returnee twist is fun though, like I feel like at the start of games, I go into panic mode, so having returnees I can go to about that, might make them feel like I'm an easy number and that they want to work with me? The people I knew before this season (like I'd actually spoken to): Bryce, Julia, Ashvika, Autumn & Olivia (I loosely knew Ricky, Blake & Sammy too) Within the game itself, the people I've had the best conversations with are Jose, Kat, Olivia, Ashvika & John. Olivia is like one of my favourite people in the community, and also a super good player so I'd love to work with her. I also think the fact that we are friends is something nobody in the cast should know (I think) so thats fun. Jose was such a big threat/player last season, and the vibe I get from him this time is he wants to tone that down? I'm not good at working with super cracked people, so him being slightly in the middle between UTR and cracked, will make him a super good person to work with I think. He is also the only person I've like...talked game with, even though its super limited, just that I wanna work with him. I'm a weirdo and watched all the Alola cast assessment stuff, and it sounds like Kat was playing really well, but got stuck in a funky position and couldn't recover, so I think she is gonna be a major threat this time and I'd love to work with her too woooo. Ashvika is a queen. Just plain and simple. She is so wholesome and nice, and already seems loosely on the same page as me, so thats iconic. John scares me ajkhsdfaslf. i think he is a total newbie, and I also think he is gonna get super cracked, and thats.... scary asdkjflas Dennis I just started talking to properly, he is in my timezone-ish, so that will be good for my sleeping pattern if he ever wins HoH or anything, but I worry he may struggle to make connections, so I'm not sure how much he can help me as an ally? The others I'm gonna try and do more rapid fire, since this confessional is already massive hjkasdflsaf: Alivia: Really really nice! We haven't spoken all that much, but she seems super friendly and she was really loyal in Unova, which makes me feel good about maybe working with her? We worked together in a mini once, and it was super fun, so I'd love to work with him more. Zeezo: She seems super nice! I think she is gonna be a super dominant personality, but whew we will see. Blake: I know he was a big player in Moheli, but I think he also rubbed people the wrong way.... We will see how he does, he seems iconic Autumn: A QUEEN. She is the most inactive so far which is worrying. I don't want her to go early. I could really see her going up this week, but maybe us two havent talked much, since she is just comfortable in our relationship? AND WHEW. ahhh okay so, I’m super excited about meeting new people....BUT...this cast is so huge and I’m so nervous. I like everyone for the most part and I’ve been trying to like talk to some people I’ve played with in the past to maybe smoothe over some bad relationships? The only person I’m still like nervous about is Julia because she kills the straight men and she hates Gemini’s. AND WHAT AM I? A STRAIGHT MALE GEMINI. I don’t think she’s very good at comps tho and I know she would go for Bryce before me. Anyway I seriously love Kat because she is so genuine and I just want to work with her. Also I want to work with alivia, roxy, zeezo, Olivia, randy, Jela, ricky, and autumn! There’s a few others as well but I’ll prob do like a video DR and talk about how I feel about everyone...who knows.

Okay SO. I filmed a video confessional earlier, but its already super out of date so its time for an update! I have spoken to lots of people that I hadn't talked to since premiere night which is good, Alivia & Kat are so nice! Jose is, as always a king, and I think (other than Olivia) he is my closest ally rn, so woo we stan. Otherwise, I spoke to Bryce, and it seems like (praise be), I'm not getting nominated, WOO! He says he is nominating Roxy/Autumn, with Julia getting the future shock thingie. Like I told him, the future shock is kind of like a curse and we know Julia loves a good curse, so its a good matchup aljdfkas. Otherwise, these nominations make sense. I LOVE Autumn, but she has been the quietest person in the cast, so I assume she is gonna go first rip. Roxy I have spoken to a fair bit, but I know she is in a funky timezone, which probably throws off her ability to be active. Bryce seemed like he was being pretty open with me, so I hope I'm not the backup plan if somebody comes off. I feel like my social game is pretty strong so I wouldnt have thought people in the house would push for me as a renom and eI'd be suprised if I get nominated! First DR of the game. I'm not going to do first impressions because I'm not that dry. The game started when I was put in this bitch, so I'm here to go at full force. I'm going to play a strong balance of a great 1 on 1 social game while still being a great personality people love. As of right now I'm being constantly dragged and roasted, and I wouldn't want it any other way. (But this is before HOH so the claws are bound to come over) So my game has been very social as of right now. Before HoH I focused on making genuine connections. I'm good with all the returnees at this point. None of them have beef with me, and I made it clear that I want to work with all of them (while this is farther from the truth). I'm just being diplomatic because there's some tension between the returnees that will have to be released soon. With the returnees I connected automatically with Zeezo. Me and her didnt even small talk its was just game talk from moment one. Thats a great relationship to have, and I'm definitely maintaining it. Jose and Alivia have been talking to me more. Jose has been more open with working with me than Alivia so : \\. All the returnees from Kanto-Sinnoh are here because theyre entertaining, the bitches from Unova-Alola would be casted for redemption but don't meet the criteria. I made an alliance with Jelaminah and Ricky. This is mostly because I need to be on Jelaminah's good side because I know the bitch knows how to play. So i would rather be scheming with her than against her. Ricky is just a number. On housecalls I saw that Jela was talking to Julia a lot. So I started talking to Julia a lot more. I surprisingly trust her a lot more than I thought I would. So me and her aren't beefing, but her and Bryce are. HOS20 affects this game because Julia and Saxon are aligned in this game and they're against Bryce and Sammy as of right now. I know Julia can drop a vendetta, but Saxon is just horrible about it. And I hate Saxon so much. He just gives me second hand embarassment and i dont know why. Like I'm so happy I've trained myself to hold my tongue because the shit he wears on housecalls actually make me laugh. He posted a picture of him shirtless and it was literally looking at rotten spam meat. Its not cute, and he is just so prude in pms because he obviously doesnt want to talk to me. I can make a separate DR about Saxon because he brings out all the hate and all the angst I had when I was in Johto. But going back to the topic Julia fought Sammy and Bryce ig and Saxon thinks Julia is right because he's a kissass and is a savvy feminist. I love Julia so her having beef isnt good. Lynn is also a south carolina native, and she is just so infectious. She is very intimidated by the large cast meaning that she hasnt bonded that well with a lot of people. So i put two and two together and made a South Carolina alliance. I know Blake is genuine about it. But the main purpose of this alliance is to keep Lynn under my sphere of influence. I can't have no newbies on my side. No ma'am Another newbie who stands out for me is John. John is just really active, and such a social threat. Meaning that his word has saying. So far my relationship with him has been "hey let literally help you with anything and expect nothing in return". With him im trying to show myself as a puppet, or somebody who is very very useful with him. And I actually showed that this week when Bryce won HOH. Won't lie I didnt want but also wanted HOH at the same time. When Bryce won it I was very wary of what was going to happen. Then John comes up to me saying that Bryce is thinking of nominating him. And since I had a decent bond with Bryce I know that I had to save John. So when Bryce talked to me he was dead set as Roxy as the initial nom and target, and Julia for safety this week. Then he mentioned that he was on the fence because he didnt know if he wanted Autumn or John nominated. So I told him the truth that it would be silly to nominate somebody as active as John. And so John wasn't nominated. I stuck my neck out for John and was one of the reasons he isn't nominated this week. And these game things build genuine trust since I'm not just talking to talk. I'm walking to walk and this game isn't ready for Randyy.

Yep, Gus Malzahn really might leave a top-10 Auburn to replace Bret Bielema at Arkansas

So who’s your obvious choice to be new Arkansas head coach? While you can think of immediate names for the Florida, Nebraska, and Tennessee jobs, Arkansas leaves you thinking a little bit. Until you remember the SEC West has an Arkansan who won a national title as a coordinator, nearly another as a head coach, and is now two wins away from a Playoff trip.

If Auburn loses to Alabama, there’s a strong chance Gus Malzahn leaves for Arkansas.

That’s according to a person with direct knowledge, who requested not to be named, in order to speak freely.

Malzahn’s roots are deep. He’s a Natural State native, played for a smaller Arkansas college and walked on for the Hogs, met his wife in the state, made his name as a high school coaching legend in the state, spent a year as Arkansas’ OC (the less said about Houston Nutt’s willingness to actually run Malzahn’s offense, the better), and went 9-3 in one year as Arkansas State’s head coach.

Well, Auburn’s No. 6 with a Playoff shot right now. Auburn welcomes No. 1 Alabama Thanksgiving weekend. With a loss then, Auburn would no longer be No. 6 nor have a Playoff shot.

At that point, Malzahn would have lost four in a row to Nick Saban’s Tide, with Saban making three (and counting?) Playoff trips. The Kick Six, Malzahn’s only win over Saban as a head coach, will have felt like a million years ago.

Because of that, he’d be unlikely to get a revised contract even after a 10-3 season, I was told, which would add to his concerns that Auburn hasn’t wanted him all that much for a while now. He’d enter 2018 on shaky ground with a new athletic director.

So he’d choose between:

a maximum-pressure job with a new athletic director in a state he’s not from and with an awful record in the series that matters most,

or a less demanding job (Bielema’s had one winning SEC record, a 5-3 2015, in five years) with a new athletic director in his home state.

So the AD leaving was bad for him?

Well, not exactly? Malzahn felt Jay Jacobs misled him during the hiring process, I’m told, regarding the true level of control the head coach would have over the program. For example, remember when Auburn OC Rhett Lashlee baffled onlookers by leaving for UConn? Yep, that was Jacobs.

But he can’t leave if Auburn beats Bama, right?

An Iron Bowl win would send the Tigers to the SEC Championship (and almost as importantly, finally knock Saban out of it), where they’d be favored in a rematch against Georgia. With a win there, they’d be SEC champions for the second time since 2013 and one game away from Malzahn’s third title game as an Auburn coach.

Anywhere in there, Auburn would have no choice but to bend over backward to keep Malzahn. A new contract would be ensured. Malzahn would be sitting pretty at Auburn for 2018, and the Plains would probably feel like a perfectly good other home.

Would Arkansas take Malzahn?

Buddy, would they!

There’s a whole backstory here as well. From 2014, back when Malzahn vs. Bielema was the SEC West’s most personal rivalry, here’s what was bubbling under the surface:

Arkansas fans, current coaches, and even Hogville all want you to know that Nutt vs. Malzahn is history.

But the story encapsulates the difference between Little Rock, where a born politician like Nutt once enjoyed strong native support, and Northwest Arkansas, where companies like Walmart, Tyson Foods and J.B. Hunt turned a handful of ignored Ozark towns into one of the strongest local economies in the United States almost overnight.

"Basically, Little Rock's as Southern as Birmingham or Memphis, with all that comes with it," says one Little Rock booster, who asked to remain anonymous. "And now if you drive one exit north of Razorback Stadium, you might as well be in Ohio."

"I think if they would’ve hired Malzahn, it would’ve been fine by now," Mattingly says. "We've come full circle as a state since Gus left, but when he came up as a name for the job, there were all those leftover feelings. Do you like Gus? Did you get over Gus? The state is still divided over him. It's fueled by Gus being from Northwest Arkansas and Houston being from Little Rock. That's when things began to really divide. I think it got to a point where people felt like they had to choose sides."

Bielema offered a restart free of regional agendas and a decade of Hogville conspiracy theories, like the one suggesting Malzahn was sent to overthrow Nutt from the beginning and usurp control of the program to the Northwest, or that Malzahn was barred from considering the open Arkansas job in 2012 because of Governor Mike Beebe, an Arkansas State fan angry that the state's flagship university refuses to schedule the Red Wolves in football or basketball.

So yeah, the Iron Bowl is the SEC West championship with a Playoff spot at stake ...

... with this whole other story line at the same time.

When industry giants like Dan Scheid and Jeremy Wagler team up on something, you’re going to get your money’s worth. Such was the case for the 24th running of the August blockbuster known as the Scheid Diesel Extravaganza. Relocated to Wagler Motorsports Park in Lyons, Indiana for 2020, the 100-acre complex played host to ODSS drag racing by day, PPL truck and tractor pulling by night, and very busy show ‘n shine and dyno competitions in between. In a year that has been anything but stable and predictable, the Scheid/Wagler partnership ended up being the shot in the arm the diesel industry needed. Thousands of enthusiasts turned out to spectate, compete, or work, and by all accounts it was one of the smoothest run renditions of the Extravaganza in recent memory.

Things kicked off first thing Friday morning with more than 100 Limited Pro Stock and Pro Street trucks weighing in, receiving tech-inspections, and then attempting to qualify for the nighttime show on Wagler’s freshly-groomed and tightly-packed clay track. At noon, it was time for two rounds of qualifying over on the NHRA-approved, concrete eighth-mile drag strip. The remainder of drag race qualifying and eliminations would commence the following day, beginning late morning. Each evening, fans were treated to the kind of high-quality truck and tractor pulling action the Extravaganza has long been known for, with the best Super Stock, Pro Stock, Limited Pro Stock, and Pro Street diesel trucks in the nation all taking to the dirt. Various tractor classes and even the Hot-Rod Semis would get in on the action as well.

If 2020 is any indication of what to expect from future events, expect the Scheid Diesel Extravaganza to enjoy another quarter century of success. To see the highlight reel for this year’s affair, keep reading.

Bet you’ve never seen a Lincoln Town Car like this! Adam Nack of Rev’s Diesel Performance drove his 1985 four-wheel drive-converted sedan all the way from New Hampshire. His hot-rod Lincoln sits on an ’05 Super Duty frame (albeit shortened) and axles, is backed by a ZF-6 manual, and is powered courtesy of a P-pumped Cummins.

As expected, Larson Miller and the Firepunk Diesel team brought their A-game to the Extravaganza. The Hot Shot’s Secret Pro Mod S10 turned in a best pass of 4.26 at 177 mph and routinely carried the driver side front tire part-way down the track. Miller would beat out Ben Shadday’s ’63 Corvette in the final round of Pro Mod, running a 4.32 at 174 mph to Ben’s 4.40 at 166.

Friday morning at the Extravaganza is usually known for its fairly slow start. This wasn’t quite the case for 2020. Before 9 a.m. the pullers were already stirring in the pits, trucks were lining up in the infield to get on the scale, vendors had already opened up shop, and spectators were filing in. Camping spots were sold out, and then some.

With 26 trucks on the docket, anticipation to watch the Super Stock trucks in action was high, to say the least. For 2020, and for the first time that we can remember, there were more Super Stocks than Pro Stocks in attendance. Jon Woskob made the call from Warriors Mark, Pennsylvania, and his second-gen Dodge coined Rollin’ Coal yanked the sled 313.59-feet on Friday night, good enough for a mid-pack finish.

For the ultimate display of speed, Scheid Diesel’s time-tested 12-valve, compound turbo’d rail faced off against Wagler’s blown, nitrous and water-methanol-injected Duramax dragster driven by Andre Dusek. Scheid driver, Jared Jones, took the eventual win in what would be the most captivating side-by-side race of the weekend, going 4.19 at 179 mph to Dusek’s 4.23 at 166 mph. Every time Wagler’s rail has visited the track so far, it’s gone quicker. If this continues, Jones and team Scheid may have a serious rivalry on their hands.

Kent Crowder is no stranger to the winner’s circle at the Extravaganza, and in 2020 the Scheid employee and driver of the Super Stock third-gen did it again. Hugging the left line (which would be the preferred path in the Super Stock class on Friday night) and waiting until roughly 225 feet before unleashing everything the triple-turbo’d Cummins had to offer, Crowder moved the sled an incredible 361.1 feet. Four feet behind him was Cody Hastings’ Against the Grain Dodge, who would put three feet on Crowder in earning the win the following night.

Right as the sun disappeared, Jeremy Roberts’ 8345 R John Deere rocketed out to 342.51 feet. His Super Farm tractor, known as the Wicked Whitetail, would hold on to take the win on Friday night.

KC Turbos’ Charlie Fish traveled all the way from Arizona to get a piece of the ODSS action in his ’05 Super Duty. At this point, he has the truck dialed in to run 5.90s consistently, thanks in part to cutting repeatable high 1.3-second 60-foots now. However, not being in the running for points in 2020 convinced him to throw the book at the 6.0L Power Stroke during his final pass on Saturday. It responded by putting up a 5.78 at 122 mph.

To say that the driver of the Angry Farmer Products’ truck, Todd Dugan, has adjusted to the Super Stock class since making the switch from blown-alcohol would be an understatement. He and his Scheid-built, Cummins-powered Ford (formerly Carl Atley’s Ohio Cat truck) went 348.99 feet for a Third Place finish on Friday night, followed by an 11th Place, 322.48-foot hook behind the wheel of his other Super Stock ride, a Chevy that represents the Angry Shine brand.

The long-awaited debut of Cummins Killer III, the mechanically-injected, all-billet Duramax fitted with triple-turbos, was reason enough to attend this year’s Scheid Diesel Extravaganza. The latest version of the infamous Super Stock truck was built by Proformance Pros, is based on a 2020 model GMC, sports a tube chassis frame, and retains an IFS suspension system. The engine is a DX460 from Wagler and the P-pump nestled in the valley came from Wimer Fuel Injection & Turbo.

So how did Cummins Killer III do on its maiden voyage in competition? How does a Fifth Place effort sound! After walking the big GMC out of the hole and waiting until mid-track to whack the hand-throttle, driver Craig Dickey guided the mechanical Duramax 336.96 feet. We’d say the Wisconsin-based pulling team came out swinging with this brand-new build.

Don Masterson’s championship-winning Pro Stock John Deere was piloted by Darryl Folz for the weekend. Folz put the infamous Tinker Toy in the runner-up spot on both Friday and Saturday night. His 335.51-foot effort on Saturday ended up measuring less than 3 inches behind the class winner, Peter Norton.

In one of the closest races of the weekend, Firepunk’s Josh Scruggs met Stainless Diesel’s Johnny Gilbert in the Pro Street final. Under normal circumstances, Gilbert’s 4.86 and then record-setting 4.82 at 156 mph passes on the weekend would’ve made him the favorite. However, after the engine suffered a burnt exhaust valve on the record-setting pass, Gilbert idled into the burnout box with his Cummins running on five cylinders. Even so, he led the race until Scruggs drove around him at half-track, eventually going 5.01 at 149 mph to Gilbert’s 5.02 at 146 mph.

The trucks pulling in the 8,000-pound Pro Street class are about as close as it gets to the ones sitting in the parking lot. In this class, engines are limited to running a single, smooth bore turbo with a compressor wheel inducer no larger than 2.6 inches (66mm). And as you might’ve guessed, dual rear wheels are prohibited. Even though this field has a reputation as being one where anyone can win on any given night, this particular third-gen Dodge does a lot of winning. It belongs to Doug Monroe and he calls it Bad Influence. His silver slayer traveled 327.38 feet on Saturday night in taking the win.

Always a crowd favorite, the Hot-Rod Semi category returned to the Scheid Diesel Extravaganza for 2020. Ryan Debroux’s sharp-looking Kenworth called “Playin’ With Fire” would earn a Third Place finish on Friday night, but took the win on Saturday after dragging the sled 345.29 feet.

Rod MacMaster’s two-wheel drive Dodge was lights-out in 5.90 Index the entire weekend. In the finals he would narrowly beat the always-on Austin Doidge, going 5.907 to Doidge’s 5.918 after grabbing a quicker reaction time (0.088 to 0.112). Here, MacMaster gets the jump on Austin Denny and his 1,500hp 6.0L Ford in the semi-finals.

Some 13 hard-running tractors turned out to battle it out in Super Farm on Friday night, among them was Tony Sietsema of Allendale, Michigan. His 4430, the Wolverine Deere, would dig 325 feet and change before the sled could bring it to a halt—a solid Fourth Place effort overall.

D&J Precision Machine’s Bob Millican put in an impressive showing on Friday night, driving the Maverick Super Stock Dodge 344.27 feet and finishing just outside the top three. After suffering a broken injection line on the pass, the folks at Scheid opened up shop and built him a new one so the truck could be back in action on Saturday. Millican wound up on the heels of Shawn Hodges on Saturday with a 323.26-foot, eighth place pass.

Unlike the Pro Stock tractor category, you’ll find a lot of red ones in the Super Farm class. Here, Cottage Grove, Wisconsin native Dan Viney takes the Crank It Up IH 1066 on a 333.22-foot ride—a distance which was good enough for third best on Friday night.

After reportedly hurting both atmosphere turbos during Friday night’s 316.41-foot hook, Van Haisley and the Haisley Machine camp went to work in the pits. On Saturday, Van would bounce back aboard the Rock Hard Ram, traveling 327.56 feet and ending up in Fourth Place in Super Stock.

Already having suffered a pair of engine failures this season, Paul Cato emerged at Scheid’s with a brand-new Cummins and was ready to hit the drag strip to battle it out in Pro Street—and the engine’s first fire was literally the night before he needed to load it on the trailer. A deck-plate, girdle, billet rods and machining from Wagler say this version is ready for all the abuse he can throw at it, and the Garrett GT55 is more than happy to supply the boost. Cato’s big single, nitrous-huffing common-rail ended up third in Pro Street with a best pass of 5.29 at 138 mph.

Evan Davis has been campaigning a Duramax-powered truck for a long time, and even though things can get lonely in the Limited Pro Stock class he doesn’t seem to mind. His Chevy coined Grey Area qualified for both the Friday and Saturday night shows, with a 329.23-foot hook landing him in Third Place on Friday evening.

Josh Stahl kicked off the Pro Stock truck action just after 11 p.m. on Friday night. The second-gen Dodge he refers to as Thicker ‘N Blood was one of 23 trucks signed up to compete in the always-entertaining 3.6-inch smooth bore turbo class.

Two Chevy’s made the cut each night in the Pro Street diesel truck class, including Ronnie Hall’s nasty Mud Grappler-equipped ’06 Silverado called “Hall Pass.” His Duramax earned him the number one spot during Saturday’s qualifying session, and he followed it up that night with a Sixth Place distance of 320.34 feet.

You don’t see a lot of yellow tractors out on the track these days, but that doesn’t stop Russ Yoder from campaigning one in the elite Pro Stock category. And on Friday night, it sure didn’t stop him and his “Xtra Butter” workhorse from finishing strong amid a sea of hot-running green machines. His Minneapolis Moline would go 300.04 feet before all was said and done on Friday, and he claimed Seventh Place footage on Saturday.

Evan Ratcliff’s VE-fueled first-gen was a strong contender in the ET Bracket class, even though he fought breakout issues. The old Dodge simply wanted no part of its 8.85-second dial-in, eventually breaking out with an 8.75. The day before, we watched Evan click off an 8.60 at 78 mph—proof that the VE-pumped first-gen sends well over 400 hp to the wheels.

One of the more unique tractors on the Pro Stock circuit is Travis Kuhns’ Trailblazer—but that’s not because it’s a Massey Ferguson… The headers that protrude through the side shields indicate its V-8 means of propulsion. The 640ci eight cylinder Perkins turns out an estimated 3,500hp and emits one of the coolest exhaust notes you’ll here in the I-6 dominated class. Kuhns took the Trailblazer on a 318.5-foot ride on Friday (Seventh Place), and ended up 16th out of 25 tractors on Saturday.

Watching an AGCO storm the track isn’t something you see a lot of in tractor pulling, especially in Pro Stock. Friday’s Ninth Place, 310.97-foot hook proved just a warm-up for driver of the Young Blood machine, Brian Shramek. On Saturday, he returned for a Fourth Place, 328.7-foot encore.

When the hood came unlatched on Keith Witt’s second-gen Dodge, he and his Cross Wired Pro Stock truck were in for a very different kind of ride on Friday night. But despite losing visibility out of the windshield, Witt never lifted, instead watching and using the white chalk line on the far side of the track as a reference point to avoid disqualification. The result of staying in the throttle yielded him 291 feet and change, along with a lot of questions back in the pits.
