Giovanni Potage & Molly Blyndeff:

1. THEY’RE SO SILLYYYYYYY i love them. they’re such a prime example of friendship with an age gap in media, which, i think needs to happen a bit more. i have friends older than me! i have friends younger than me! and also they’re just. goofy. silly 2. Would any friendship bracket truly be complete without this dynamic duo? She’s a serious an disillusioned elementary school student, resigned to her miserable lot in life after years of neglect and doing her family’s taxes. He’s a wacky and optimistic teenager turned supervillain, here to sweep her away from her abusive family. Together, they commit CRIMES! 3. She is an anxious child who has the power to dumb down noises or impacts to help her deal with the literal everything in her life, as she has to balance school and her family’s toy store, especially as her father and sister seem to prioritize their own selves and not care about the family as a whole. Molly is like 11 or something and has to do her family’s taxes! He is a villainous mastermind!…well, he says he is. In actuality, Giovanni is a captain in the Bonzai Blasters, with ambitions of being promoted to Vice Principal…or even Associate Justice or Valedictorian! (Yes. This is how that system is organized) But unlike the rest, he prioritizes the wellbeing of his minions above all else. He’s comfortable with his masculinity, as he knits for his minions and packs them all some soup in case they get hungry. Oh! He also has the power of soup. He can make soup, make steam of soup, and every 13th physical hit from him deals critical damage (that has nothing to do with soup. It’s just what he does). After a heist gone wrong, these two meet, and Giovanni adopts Molly as one of his minions (giving her the minion name “Beartrap”, on account of her bear hoodie. She likes bears). Together, they thwart/do a heist and steal a valuable amulet. Giovanni also distances Molly from the Banzais when the cops show up, so she will not have to worry about legal troubles. Not spoiling much about the book (Prison of Plastic, go read it), but Giovanni continues to stand up for Molly against her family, who continues to write her off. He tries to get her sister to connect with her and soften up. He can’t do much with the dad because he sucks. Giovanni makes sure Molly knows how cool she is as a person and that she doesn’t let herself be walked all over by other people. He helps her stand up for herself, and in turn, she helps him with crime.

Maya Fey & Phoenix Wright:

1. Quite frankly I don’t think they will win. They are constantly being tormented and experiencing the horrors and this poll would be no different. 2. they literally cannot die no matter what hell canon puts them through. fall off that bridge n cliff to a deathly boy! get kidnapped like 4 times girl! when she gets kidnapped like the first time, they had to make a new sprite for Phoenix coz he didn’t look devasted and depressed enough. Power of friendship though! and she is OKI! :) 3. The most iconic attorney and assistant pair in the series. Phoenix canonically ran onto a burning bridge to try to save Maya when she was in danger. His call with her got cut off once and he left the country to go make sure she was safe. She’s been kidnapped twice to be used as leverage against him and both times she was more worried about him than herself. She once jumped in front of a taser to try to protect him. He’s also defended her from murder accusations like four times. Their relationship defines the original game trilogy even more than the Wright-Edgeworth relationship does. Other Ace Attorney games wish they could replicate this dynamic. They got added to a fighting game as a single unit where they work together to fight. They both think they’re the reasonable one in this friendship, despite neither of them actually deserving that title.

I think it happened. Cards on the table I think Kaisaru is endgame in the manga. I’ve been trying for a month to read these pages in any other way. all the Canon WLWs are still being gay as hell in the ending, and this is directly after a scene establishing putting suntan lotion on someone’s back as a h*rny activity you do for someone you have a crush on. (Mawari literally says this out loud because  nobody’s crush has ended, so the class president is doing it for Nagasumi)

There’s no real buildup to it, but apparently there was some delay because the mangaka was injured, so the ending is kind of all over the place and there are at least 15 characters in play. Short summary, Kai finally takes the suit off and has his punchout with Nagasumi over Sun, and SPOILERS but yes, the couple that gets engaged in the first chapter are endgame. Kai loses, lets everyone use his submarine for the ending battle, and then has seemingly sworn off women in the last chapter.

It was real for 11 years and no one told me until i read it for myself. we can’t be living like this.

thoughts on deltarune chapter 2 (spoiler-free)

great things:

the writing is excellent as always. laughed out loud at many points, had Feelings at many points. but it's a toby fox game so that's par for the course.

ch1 and undertale had a problem where the overworld puzzles are just repetitive obstacles slapped on to make it feel more like a game and less like a walking sim. ch2's puzzles are more integrated into the setting, and more varied to keep it interesting.

fun battles. the s/r-action makes for more strategizing and the mercy/hp meters were a great addition. spare requirements are fun to figure out. great new bullet patterns, doing a lot of creative stuff. battles were more challenging. i am reasonably good at bullet hell but i actually lost a couple times (only time in ch1 that happened to me was against jevil).

game's a lot longer! love to have Content, babey

liking the plot so far, and the pace at which it is progressing. obviously there's a lot of unanswered questions, but that's good considering it's not close to finished. it can be very hard to get the pacing right for a work released in sections; you need to consider how it will come across both for people playing as they're released and waiting years for the next installment, as well as for later players who will experience it all at once. this is extra hard when the fandom is prone to analyzing and speculating on every little detail. how much do you reveal? what cliffhangers would be really awkward if you got the answer five minutes later? (i suspect it helped being involved in homestuck which had to thread this needle constantly)

the art is consistently good. temmie's stuff has always been solid but in the previous games it was obvious which bits got attention, and the rest was pretty lackluster. this one has so much stuff to look at, and it's all part of a cohesive whole. i absolutely loved the whole overworld and the enemy designs.

relatedly, there's a lot more sprite animation on the overworld which is nice. makes everyone seem like solid characters instead of just static walk cycles sliding around the map.

soundtrack is full of bangers but, again, it's a toby fox game so that's not surprising. i was head-bobbing for like half the game

that ending???? that particular reveal had not even occurred to me but it makes a lot of sense. i said 'oh dang' out loud

thank you for the disaster lesbians toby (does that count as a spoiler? i don't think so, it was obvious in ch1 that was going to be expanded on)

criticisms (these are all very minor):

the recruit mechanic is barely explained and i don't really get it. i have no idea what switching characters in the cafe is supposed to do. i assume this will be expanded on in later chapters, but some indication of the actual benefit of recruiting would have been nice.

i found the controls in the punchout sections hard to use. like, i couldn't tell when i was dodging, what counted as a hit, etc. maybe i'm just bad at punchout though

not enough lancer. give me the round boy. (i was hoping he'd function like the undertale cell phone, and he sort of does, but he has much less to say, and he barely interacts with susie)

there are a couple sections of auto-dialogue that i wish would slow down. i mean the one where [character] is monologuing at you in the middle of a difficult timed puzzle is obviously supposed to be annoying, but there's way too much expository dialogue in there for something you can't fully focus on. and there's no reason for the other one (the long hallway) not to wait for confirmation to continue, and i missed a few lines.

could have used a few more save points imo. in particular i would have liked to have one right before the bumper cars, as a warning that a big battle was coming. (i wasn't healed up so i lost first try and it would have been nice to respawn right in front of it)

i've had problems in all three games with navigation. despite the fact that "just go to the right to progress" remains generally true, backtracking can be hard because it's hard to remember where things are.

this is a problem with delatrune as a whole: i wish the keymapping options were at the very beginning, and globally applied. i find wasd much more comfortable but you have to get through the first chunk of the game before it even gives you the option to change it

conclusion:

it good.

it's literally free so you have absolutely no excuse to not play it. even if you haven't played undertale you can still understand it just fine.

toby put a warning not to play if you haven't gone through undertale, due to spoilers, but honestly given the weird AU relationship between the two i don't think that's a huge issue. there is admittedly one big spoiler in ch1 (without giving it away: your dad) and that might hurt the emotional impact of a late-game reveal, but if you've seen much fanart you probably already know about him. otherwise it's mostly like "oh hey it's that guy, i know them!"

yea, so this was WAY better than chapter 1. the difference is ASTOUNDING. the visuals are an excellent expansion of the undertale style. the music fucking slaps, of course (queen’s theme <3). the battle mechanics are engaging (acting is often a little minigame), and actually requires a bit of strategy.

Part of the Hulk's appeal is that he is the eternal outsider. Even when he's on teams like the Avengers, he is often mistrusted and disrespected by more conventional heroes who fear the Hulk's raw destructive power and few teams have clashed with the green brute as much as the Fantastic Four. Despite Hulk's countless battles with Thing though, Marvel's first family has made peace with Hulk and now serve as his allies more than opponents. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for their dark counterparts. In Immortal Hulk #43 Hulk faces off against the evil Fantastic Four, the U-Foes.

The new issue from writer Al Ewing and artist Joe Bennet is following up on more than a few plotlines from throughout the Immortal Hulk series. Hulk has been in a bit of a bind ever since the Leader framed him for the destruction of a small town. This led to the death of Devil Hulk and the brutal torture of Bruce Banner, leaving only Joe Fixit and the Childlike Hulk left to fend for themselves. Hulk was killed, brought back, then held captive in a space station by the government. Even after Joe Fixit blew a hole in the Space Station to escape, his woe wasn't over as he then had to face off against the Thing while sapped of his famous strength. Luckily, after a punchout, Ben agreed to let Hulk go and say that he got away. Realizing that the real Fantastic Four was on Hulk's side, the government decided to hire a new squad of Hulk hunters, the U-Foes.

Only caring about his own survival, Joe wanders around New York, attempting to lay low while the government searches for him. When a child wearing a Hulk hoodie is threatened by police though, even Joe can't stand idly by. The weakened Hulk roars to life and boasts that he's the strongest there is. The cops free the kid, but that's not where Hulk's troubles end. Detecting the pulse of gamma radiation that comes when Joe Hulks out, the U-Foes appear almost immediately. The group's leader, Vector, uses telekinetically charged energy blasts to burn holes into Hulk. The wounded brute looks back in agony only to see the group of villains standing above him, ready to dismantle him piece by piece and assure him that he's no longer the strongest.

While the Hulk has no shortage of people both good and bad who despise him, the U-Foes Hulk hatred borders on obsessive. The team got their start trying to replicate the rocket launch which ended up creating the Fantastic Four. In a fit of sheer arrogance, they removed the shielding from their ship, meaning the already lethal dose of cosmic radiation they were attempting to absorb would end up killing them in seconds. The Hulk stepped in to save them just in time, a favor which the team has eternally resented him for. To the four villains who became known as Vector, Ironclad, Vapor, and X-Ray, the Hulk's intervention didn't save their lives, it prevented them from becoming gods.

One of the things that make the team unique among Hulk villains lies with X-Ray's ability to control radiation, including gamma radiation. He has the power to send out anti-gamma radiation, making him one of the few people who can turn Hulk back into Banner. Considering the Hulk has lost strength, this will make an already tough set of opponents nearly impossible. If there's one thing readers should know about the Hulk though, it's that his different personalities make him a one-man army.

Rei Suwa & Kazuki Kurusu:

I think that their friendship should prevail because the name of the anime is Buddy daddies first of all…they are buddies!!! And fathers!!! They helped raise their adopted daughter together!! Also unrelated to the fact that they have a daughter but their friendship is so strong that Kazuki saved Rei from his old abusive life and pit of depression solely because he didn’t like seeing his friend live like that. And he gave Rei a reason to live and to leave his past of organized crime!!! Agent Curt Mega & Tatiana Slozhno:

1. they meet as spies working against each other, and are soon after both sent to seduce the other as part of their respective missions. when tatiana's employers kidnap and torture curt, she betrays them to save him, and then saves him again when he almost gets himself killed by them a second time. curt brings her to his safe house, and his mother assumes they're a couple. they wonder if maybe they should give it a try, they kiss, and then they both confess that they absolutely are not interested in the other like that, and so they decide to just be friends. they take down the bad guys together, and then curt gets passports made for tatiana and her family so they can safely get to the united states and she cans see them again.

Giovanni Potage & Molly Blyndeff:

1. THEY’RE SO SILLYYYYYYY i love them. they’re such a prime example of friendship with an age gap in media, which, i think needs to happen a bit more. i have friends older than me! i have friends younger than me! and also they’re just. goofy. silly 2. Would any friendship bracket truly be complete without this dynamic duo? She’s a serious an disillusioned elementary school student, resigned to her miserable lot in life after years of neglect and doing her family’s taxes. He’s a wacky and optimistic teenager turned supervillain, here to sweep her away from her abusive family. Together, they commit CRIMES! 3. She is an anxious child who has the power to dumb down noises or impacts to help her deal with the literal everything in her life, as she has to balance school and her family’s toy store, especially as her father and sister seem to prioritize their own selves and not care about the family as a whole. Molly is like 11 or something and has to do her family’s taxes! He is a villainous mastermind!…well, he says he is. In actuality, Giovanni is a captain in the Bonzai Blasters, with ambitions of being promoted to Vice Principal…or even Associate Justice or Valedictorian! (Yes. This is how that system is organized) But unlike the rest, he prioritizes the wellbeing of his minions above all else. He’s comfortable with his masculinity, as he knits for his minions and packs them all some soup in case they get hungry. Oh! He also has the power of soup. He can make soup, make steam of soup, and every 13th physical hit from him deals critical damage (that has nothing to do with soup. It’s just what he does). After a heist gone wrong, these two meet, and Giovanni adopts Molly as one of his minions (giving her the minion name “Beartrap”, on account of her bear hoodie. She likes bears). Together, they thwart/do a heist and steal a valuable amulet. Giovanni also distances Molly from the Banzais when the cops show up, so she will not have to worry about legal troubles. Not spoiling much about the book (Prison of Plastic, go read it), but Giovanni continues to stand up for Molly against her family, who continues to write her off. He tries to get her sister to connect with her and soften up. He can’t do much with the dad because he sucks. Giovanni makes sure Molly knows how cool she is as a person and that she doesn’t let herself be walked all over by other people. He helps her stand up for herself, and in turn, she helps him with crime.
