Did you know that coloured containers can change the temperature and humidity inside them? So any container exposed to sunlight for an extended period is likely to have absorbed some of the sun's heat, increasing the humidity and temperature.
Whereas, lighter color like white reflect the sunlight to keep the contents inside a container cooler. This is one of the reasons reefer containers with perishable cargos choose white.

Favourite striking technique: elbows! Blaydes isn't getting enough recognition or respect coming into this fight with Aspinall this weekend. The guy has 3 losses to Ngannou and Lewis, the latter of which he was whooping on the feet before that uppercut. His takedowns are probably the strongest in the UFC, and his ground and pound is some of the most merciless in MMA. Blog #1 Defining the Problem
Oregon residents have one of the  highest rates of mental illness at 27.33% only behind Utah who has a rate of 29.68% (worldpopulationreview.com). Yet it is also one of the hardest states to find care in with many facing long waitlists. This is at odds with official reports that Oregon has one mental health worker for every 170 residents, well over the national average of 1 per 350. The disconnect first becomes apparent when you learn that the data come from the number of individuals who are licensed in Oregon and not the number that are currently practicing and providing care. The lack of providers is further exacerbated by the fact that many insurance plans don’t cover a significant part of mental health treatment. Many only become eligible to receive care when it is court mandated or in an emergency situation. Oregon needs to figure out how to treat the small issues before they become a life or death situation.
There are several communities in Oregon that are unfairly impacted by this crisis including those under 18, transplants without a support system, and those impacted by the high cost of living. Many come to Oregon for a new start and find themselves overwhelmed with the high cost of living and lack of affordable housing and resources.
Children in Oregon are only one of the communities that are being underserved in a larger population that feels that they are being set up to fail.  In a state that has more than 835,000 residents under the age of 18 (census.org) there are only 105 beds available for those in crisis (Lynne-Terry 2021). What is even more concerning is that that number includes facilities that are currently shut down reducing the number of available beds further. If we have estimated that there are about 835,000 children in Oregon and 27.33% of Oregonians report having a mental illness (worldpopulationreview.com) we can estimate there are about 228,205 children living with a mental illness. Now not all of these will require a bed in a mental health facility but with only 255 beds licensed there is room for only 1.11% of children suffering from a mental illness. It’s almost like winning the lottery with the chances of getting a bed in a facility that can only accommodate 1.11% of the population it is meant to serve. As many people are aware many mental health problems get worse as a patient ages and does not receive treatment. What starts out as a small problem can quickly snowball into a major issue that sadly is often solved by self-medicating or being solved in a more permanent manner.
I want to focus on where a higher rate of care would have a longer lasting impact and that’s in the youth population. Many with mental health issues start to self-medicate when they aren’t able to find any other way to quiet the demons they are dealing with. By providing care at an early age when symptoms first present themselves we would be able to decrease negative impacts later on including drug dependence, incarceration, and an early death.

Ways to Find Out if Your Loved One is Arrested by ICE
Getting arrested is a traumatic experience for everyone, but for immigrants, the situations are even more critical because one legal misdemeanor or a simple violation of immigration laws can land them in ICE custody or get them deported. Did you know around 63.1% of ICE Immigrant detainees have no criminal record?
(Source: https://trac.syr.edu/immigration/quickfacts/ )
If you have someone in your family or friend circle missing for days and the thought of how they might be in ICE custody bothering you, here’s how you can find out if someone has been arrested by the ICE. Understand that immigration bail bonds in California can help but you need to find what the detained person has been charged for.
Contact Local Authorities:
Your first course of action should be to contact local law enforcement agencies, such as the police department or county jail. Provide them with the information you have gathered and inquire if your loved one is in their custody. Remain calm and polite during these conversations to maintain a cooperative relationship with the authorities. Remember that local law enforcement may not have direct access to information on ICE detentions, but they can provide valuable guidance or direct you to the appropriate channels.
Utilize the ICE Online Detainee Locator:
The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) provides an online detainee locator tool, which can help you search for individuals in their custody. Visit the official ICE website and access their detainee locator page. Enter the necessary information, including the person's full name, date of birth, and country of birth, to initiate the search. If your loved one is in ICE custody, this tool will provide you with their current location and contact information after which you can reach out to an immigration bondsman.
What to do after you find the detained person?
If the accused immigrant is still in ICE facilities, the first step is to get an immigration bond. According to the ICE form I-352, there are four types of immigration bonds:
Public safety bond
Delivery Bond
Supervision bond, and
Voluntary departure bond
It’s vital to remember that getting bail does not mean the charges are withdrawn. When you post bail with bail bonds, you can release someone from ICE custody while the case is being processed. While on bail, the defendant has to give proper notice to immigration officials and appear for the scheduled court dates.

YIMBYs seem to think that zoning is one weird trick
So I follow local Atlanta politics a lot these days and I’m generally in favor of doing urbanist things, loosening zoning, emphasizing transit more, mixed use development, and building more/better bike lanes. But then I see groups clearly influenced by California style YIMBYism that has an almost lazer focus on zoning. Like Abundant Housing Atlanta. Now upfront there’s a lot I agree with there. Atlanta SHOULD be a denser city taking up a larger percentage of it’s metro into the city limits. And there is a need to build more housing here to accomplish that. However, that California mindset of using Texas as a positive point of comparison (which for California is already questionable but is super misguided for Georgia) still comes through. In one of their suggested answers to the City of Atlanta’s housing preferences survey they advise responding like this:
Tumblr media
This is WILD to me. First, does Houston have no zoning? Well sort of but sort of not. There’s plenty of land use regulations in Houston that can limit housing creation. One example is minimum lot sizes. Now Houston has been doing some interesting ideas with that, like having hyperlocal votes on allowing smaller lot sizes that seems to decrease resistance to densifying. That’s interesting right there! But a visit to Houston or even a look at google earth would establish they’re not an especially dense city. Which gets to the second point: Atlanta is densifying FASTER than Houston is.
For this, a quick look at the census data is useful. Please note the figures in this link are all city limits comparison, which is the level at which zoning rules are established and is important for this discussion since we’re talking about a survey for the actual city of Atlanta, not it’s metro area. https://www.census.gov/quickfacts/fact/table/houstoncitytexas,atlantacitygeorgia/INC110220
Between 2010 and 2020 the city of Atlanta grew at a bit over 2x the rate the city of Houston did, even though the Houston metro area grew faster than the Atlanta metro. Also important to note the household size of the two cities. Houston has 2.61 people per household and Atlanta has 2.14. Which means to house the same number of people, Atlanta actually has to build more homes than Houston does. And what happened with density? In 2010, Houston had a density of about 3,500 people/square mile. Atlanta had about 3,150 people per square mile. In 2020, Houston rose to ~3,600 people/sq mile and Atlanta was just shy of 3,700 people/sq mile. Atlanta got denser than Houston FASTER despite having smaller households that inherently make density harder.
Now Houston does have lower rent than Atlanta, in 2020 Houston’s median gross rent was $1,086 and Atlanta was $1,227. But crucially, Houston is substantially poorer than Atlanta! Median household income in Houston was $53,600 in 2020 and Atlanta’s was $64,179. And our poverty rates were similar though Atlanta’s was slightly lower (19.6% for Houston and 19.2% for Atlanta). But if you work out these numbers, in 2020 Houston’s median rent was 24.3% of it’s median income and Atlanta’s was 22.9%. Atlanta was thus more affordable to it’s median resident than Houston was! Now the pandemic has sent a lot of data up in the area especially with things like rent-to-income ratios, but it’s hard to say that long term choices like zoning are an explanation when this longer term trend is for Atlanta to get denser faster and be more affordable.
This shows up in data analyzing how many people are cost burdened in a city, aka housing takes up 30% or more of household income. Note the below data uses the 2018 Census Household Survey so the numbers will be a bit different than the final 2020 census but largely in line with them. I’d also note some of the cities LESS cost burdened than either Houston or Atlanta and going down further on the list, famously pricey San Francisco is WAY lower on the share cost burdened https://constructioncoverage.com/research/cities-with-the-most-cost-burdened-households:
Tumblr media
And none of this gets into Houston’s other failures. It’s public transit is crap compared to Atlanta, using 3 light rail lines that aren’t grade separated (meaning they can get stuck in car traffic), go to fewer places, and are about half the speed (or less depending on traffic) of MARTA’s heavy rail lines. The city is at least as bad with the amount of downtown parking as Atlanta is. We really need to stop lionizing a place that on a block-by-block level doesn’t really look much different than Atlanta and on larger statistical levels actually looks a bit worse.
Does this mean restrictive zoning is good? No, but it does mean our current market system trends towards huge sprawling cities even if zoning gets loosened. It means we need active planning TO FIGHT CARS! Getting rid of parking minimums (which Atlanta did a while back around MARTA stations such that most of downtown and midtown no longer has parking minimums) is not enough. We need parking MAXIMUMS. It’s not enough to simply allow the market to decide the right housing mix, we need active investment choices from the city to encourage more dense growth. In Atlanta, the Beltline is a great example of using investment to induce more dense construction in the city limits. And though fair complaints can be made about parts of the implementation and the displacement it caused in some areas, it’s worth noting that it and areas around MARTA stations are hubs for density to grow around. Which does undermine the argument that gets made that density is needed for transit. WRONG! Ways of getting around that don’t need cars are needed to make density happen! And the Atlanta/Houston comparison shows this.
So let’s cut the California mindset to our approach here in Georgia. Zoning is not the primary limiting factor to densification here though it plays a role. Our car-dependent urban design is and that requires not just a hands-off laissez-faire free-for-all like Houston is imagined to be. It requires good planning that actively works against any market forces that push for cars.
