New York Jets Daily, 12/5/17: Todd Bowles, 'Wooden Nickels', and Herm Edwards
The New York Jets are in the thick of the postseason race. A former coach is getting an opportunity. And what the hell are wooden nickels?
New York Jets head coach Todd Bowles is DONE with being a pushover (not that he ever was one) and will continue to be a disciplinarian. He also explained ‘wooden nickels’ in his latest press conference via NewYorkJets.com:
On why he emphasizes accountability…
“We all have a job to do and we all have work to do. You treat everybody like grown men, which they are, and there are consequences and repercussions for everything that we do here. We have rules that we go by, and you treat them like men. You put in a hard day’s work, and we take no wooden nickels. I don’t believe in beating around the bush. I don’t want anybody to beat around the bush with me. We have our fun but we get our work in. When you don’t work, some excuses are necessary and some things you get away with that are very understandable, and some things aren’t. That’s just how I am. It works for some people. It doesn’t work for other people.”

Also, some history was made on Sunday during the Jets thrilling 38-31 victory on Sunday.

The last two #Jets WRs to do that?

Albeit some embarrassing history when you really look at it. I love Don Maynard (Pro Football Hall of Fame) and George Sauer, but how did the Jets not accomplish this feat in 50 years since?
Regardless, the future is bright for the Jets at the wide receiver position and it’s going to get stronger this offseason with the eventual return of Quincy Enunwa.
The Jets are currently 5-7 and two games out of the playoffs currently. For all the tanking crowd out there in Jets land, a wise man once said, “YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME!”
That man was Herm Edwards (2001-05) who coached the Jets for several years and led them to some varying levels of success. Now, after hanging up his hat, he is going back to college for the first time in nearly 30 years.
Best of luck in Tempe, Coach! #ForksUp https://t.co/Dvx8lI9MOz

Edwards had a bit of a comical moment in his opening press conference when he joked with a member of the Devil’s Digest that he was Catholic. Speaking of the devil, the Jets are still dealing with the ramifications of Broadway Joe’s deal with the devil for that Super Bowl championship back in 1969.
