I don't know how niche this is here, but Ronja Rövardotter by Astrid Lindgren was one of my favourite books as a kid and it's got such wonderful ink drawings that I wanted to try making some art for it :)

Det ska ju komma en ny Ronja Rövardotter film nu och jag tänker att en del kommer säga "inget slår originalet!!"

Det som är intressant med Astrid Lindgren adaptationer är att de mest populära filmatiseringarna som vi ser som heliga och som bäst pga det. Så när det görs en ny adaptation blir vi typ "NEJ!! INGET SLÅR ORIGINALET!"

Men, tekniskt sätt har det gjorts flera adaptationer av Astrid Lindgren berättelser förut. Finns ju en barnen i bullerbyn från 60-talet och en från 80-talet (den från 80-talet är superior), och det finns Kalle Blomkvist filmer från 50-talet som de sen gjorde om på 90-talet. Egentligen är de inte remakes av varandra utan bara en ny adaptation av samma bok. Dessutom finns ju tecknade pippi, tecknade karlsson på taket och anime ronja. Dock kanske det inte räknas när det är tecknad pga det är ett annat medium.

Dock ger detta ingen ursäkt till Saltkråkan som var en tv-serie först, så den nya Saltkråkan är en remake.

I learned not too long ago that there is a being made/already made a Ronja Røverdatter series (sorry for the Danish spelling to all the Swedes😭), and boy did it just give me a flash back to all my childhood summers spend in Sweden, watching the translated version of the movie and book. Fucking love Astrid Lindgren!

And I will never forget these fucking bitches. "Hvorfor det? Hvorfor det? Hvorfor det? Hvorfor det?" (Why? Why? Why? Why?) Shut up and get eaten by a crow dammit!😭

But for real, I've seen some ratings from the new series, and they say its good. And when I save a clip and realized it was in Swedish, I was hyped!

08: Ronia, the Robber's Daughter

Pippi Longstocking may be my favorite Astrid Lindgren character, but Ronia, the Robber's Daughter is my favorite Astrid Lindgren story. It takes place in a Scandinavian early medieval fantasy world and centers around Ronia, the daughter of a robber-chief who explores the wilderness around her home and learns to deal with the dangers out there. In one scene Ronia and Birk, a boy from a rivaling robber clan, get lost in the mist and are nearly lured away by the song of the Unearthly Ones (a people who live under the ground).

The book was made into a film in 1984, which remains incredibly popular in Sweden, and an animated series in 2014 by Goro Miyazaki (the anime has some really cool designs, but in my opinion the music sucked compared to the Swedish film, which has some lovely music inspired by Georgian folk music).

Potentially an unpopular opinion, but here goes:

I’m actually liking the new, much gentler version of Birk a lot. I see him avoiding conflict because he experiences it enough with his father. Someone might say he is portrayed as too soft, but I think his personality in the new series is in a good contrast with Ronja’s fiery nature. Very excited to see how the end of the story and his scenes with Ronja particularly (fighting at the Bear Cave, etc.) play out.

Ronja episode 1.

Gorgeous nature, nice monsters so far, parenting choices that seem somewhat questionable when revisited from an adult perspective, my time lost viking cop from Beforeigners is Lovis. I am still not convinced by the village B plot, but we'll see.
