okay I've finished making my big spreadsheet of how mp100 characters refer to each other! some thoughts on this under the cut because it got long
the Kageyama brothers are very polite in how they refer to people. their parents must have really instilled etiquette into them bc no one else is as consistent about using polite honorifics/titles as they are. the only people Mob doesn't give an honorific/title are his brother and Dimple, and the only people Ritsu doesn't give an honorific are Dimple and Shou, who he just calls "Suzuki"
Reigen, on the other hand, is pretty inconsistent and casual with his use of honorifics. he says "Mob-kun" a couple times and "Ritsu-kun" once, but usually they're just Mob and Ritsu (or "Mob's brother" lmao). the only honorific he consistently uses is "Tome-chan"
it's infrequent, but both Reigen and Dimple refer to Mob as "my boy" at some point :') he's their boy!
Ritsu doesn't refer to the Awakening Lab kids at all until he asks their names after being kidnapped lmao the only exception is when he calls out to the older Shiratori brother after the younger one is taken away and he calls him "Shiratori-kun." considering the fact that after asking their names, he refers to both of them as Daichi-kun and Kaito-kun, I think there was absolutely a moment when everyone was freaking out about the Shiratori brothers where he was like "ohhhhh that's his name"
also he switches from "Onigawara-san" to "Onigawara-senpai" when he realizes he's friends with his brother lmao fakeass
even though Mob starts calling Teru "Hanazawa-kun" as soon as they exchange names, Teru doesn't give him the honorific until they decide to raid Claw together. I guess that's the point when he decides they're friendly enough for it? he calls Ritsu "brother-kun" as soon as he realizes they're related and never refers to him by his actual name
everyone calls Teru some variation on his nickname EXCEPT Mob and Dimple. Dimple actually only calls him "brat" and "that guy" for a while until he managed to track him down again during the alleyway incident, which I realized is because he was exorcised before learning Teru's name lskdjflkdsf from the Seventh Division arc onwards, he just calls him "Hanazawa"
I love that Dimple tries to refer to the brothers with cutesy nicknames and both of them are like "if you do that again I'm killing you all the way dead" and he's like "understood." and then refers to them by given name from then on lmao
Teru refers to Dimple as "Dimple-kun" and Tome calls him "Dimple-chan," both of which are SO funny to me because he's way older than them. rude as hell, this evil spirit deserves no respect
Shou doesn't use honorifics or titles for ANYONE. Ritsu is just Ritsu, the Ultimate 5 are all their last names, his dad is just Pops. he also exclusively refers to Mob as "Ritsu's brother" dkfjldskfj
Serizawa alternates between "Shigeo-kun" and "Kageyama-kun" with no real rhyme or reason to it. just seems to depend on his mood I guess

₊˚ʚ ☁️ ₊˚ ♡ ゚. author's note ⤸ wowie this has been in my drafts for a thousand years so i thought, why not post <3 i do have a chapter 2 of sorts, just need to polish it up! thank you for reading <3
Tumblr media
He never used to do this…
Play video games online, that is.
Serizawa Katsuya had long preferred games of the retro persuasion; they were a familiar comfort, much like a security blanket. For so long, he’d only known a controller with a single stick and two buttons and that had been enough for him. It still is, most days. But that all changed when he found a new reason to turn to his desktop computer, the one he saved up every 1-yen coin for from his job working for Reigen.
But it wasn’t the graphics of new age games that kept him coming back. It wasn’t the carousel of variety that got his chair rolling and his PC buzzing. No, it was never something– it was someone.
Now he knows your name but your username used to come first. It was how Serizawa met you after all, when he was still a complete and total noob to the pixel MMORPG you’ve frequented since day one.
And like most things, your friendship with Serizawa happened by chance. You were helping a buddy out, shepherding them if you will because after all, they were trying the game out because of your incessant begging and pleading. You needed another person in your group after all, a certain raid requirement wouldn’t let you participate otherwise and you’d much rather go in with a group of friends than some randos that might steal all your loot in the end.
Serizawa just happened to be in your party when playing as a duo through the tutorial. After you tore down the first boss, an aquamarine monster made of slimy goo, Serizawa had typed an innocuous question in the main chat.
『 How do I equip the armor? 』
And you weren’t about to ignore the help of someone trying the game out for the first time. So what started as casual advice turned into a friend request popping in your inbox… Then spontaneous meet-ups…
『 Hey Gyudon-san! Are you going to be playing for long? 』
『 Hello! Yes, I have an hour. 』
『 Want to play together? 』
『 Yes! Thank you! 』
Turned into repeat plans…
『 Gyudon! I have a day off tomorrow, want to play? 』
『 Yes! That would be fun. I have night school but we can play after. 』
『 How are your studies going? Don’t play if you have a lot of work! Education comes first :p 』
『 No, not a lot. I want to play with you! 』
Which then led to chatting outside the game…
『 Gyudon-san, do you use LINE? 』
『 Yes, but mostly for schoolwork... 』
『 We should add each other! 』
『 Okay! 』
… And that’s when you learn his name for the first time. Serizawa Katsuya. The discoveries wouldn’t stop there; with the game no longer a crutch for communication, your conversations became a staple for having a good day. Good morning texts, good night texts. You messaged him when you saw something that reminded you of him, things that went beyond your shared interest in video games. He was so kind, you could feel his warmth over the phone even from simple messages; you have so many of them saved because sometimes, you need a pick me up from the man in particular. When you are on your phone with a smile that makes the apples of your cheeks glow, more often than not it’s because of him.
“You so like him.” One of your friends tells you one day over a bowl of ramen and they just know that it isn’t the steam rising from the broth that’s making your face clammy all of a sudden.
“He’s just– He’s a really good guy! Can’t I have friends?” You remark, stuffing your face with noodles and slurping loud enough to hopefully drown out the teasing that would soon follow. But you know they’re right. Who else do you think of when the lights are off and you’re left to ruminate in your bed, the mattress seeming larger and emptier as the days go by? Who else are you always looking forward to calling, even though phone calls aren’t really your thing? How many times have you looked up train tickets and times for Seasoning City, only to click back with your heart thumping in your eardrums?
“Don’t you want something more?” The words bounce off the walls in your head long after you say goodbye to your friend.
Don’t you want something more?
You can practically see the words when you close your eyes as you try to go to sleep but it’s deep into the night already and you’ve been tossing and turning for hours now. You stuff a groan into a pillow, cramming your face in the plush to silence the sounds even though you live alone. You groan because… you do want something more.
But does he?
You don’t know if you can live like this. Pining is one thing, something you’ve apparently been doing all this time (and you’ve known, god you’ve known but coming to stare it blank in the face is making your heart stutter at a pace that makes your chest cavity feel like it’s going to break at the seams if you’re not careful) but living in a shadow of doubt makes you feel even worse.
“So that’s it,” You grumble into the pillow, “I gotta do it.” The pillow wilts in your arms from all the tight squeezing, the sheet blotted with a few drops of frustration straight from your scrunched up eyes. You grab your phone– no, you’re not doing it now but you figure, since you’re already going down this path, you might as well soothe yourself by rereading some of his messages from earlier.
Only, when you go into your chat history with Serizawa, you see three little dots greeting you from the dimmed screen.
🗨 I can’t sleep… I hope you’re resting well.
Your thumb jitters on the screen, your last swallow lodged in your throat as you read the message.
🗨 Same here.
That’s it? That’s all you can come up with? You don’t want the conversation to die here so you’re flipping through conversation notecards in your brain, chiding yourself for not having anything to say when suddenly, you get another message.
🗨 Would you like to talk on the phone?
You say yes. Your stomach bounces, fraught with nerves, but you say yes. And when you answer, you don’t see the face of your phone until hours later when the sun’s already come up and a new day’s begun.
“I didn’t realize what time it was… Sorry…” Serizawa sheepishly apologies and you swear you hear him stifle a yawn at the tailend of his words. Cute.
“No, no– it’s okay! Talking with you always makes my day… Night. Day and night?” You stumble over your words but it seems to charm him nonetheless, Serizawa’s soft laughter a gift to your ears. You wish you could hear it in person.
“I– I feel the same.” He briskly coughs, almost like he’s working himself up to something, “I– I was going to ask you… My last week of school is coming up. My friends want to have dinner and I– I was wondering if–”
Your shirt wrinkles in your balled up fist, trying as you might to still the beating of your heart but failing.
“If you would like to come? Y-You don’t have to, of course!”
“I’d love to!” You blurt out, incapable of keeping your lips in an airtight seal for any longer. “J-Just tell me the date!”
And he does– it’s in two weeks, which feels like so much time and not enough all at once. You put him on speakerphone, smiling all the while as he scrambles for the right words; is he as worked up about this as you are? You’re already on the shuttle website, looking at the price of tickets, debating on buying them early just because you can.
“... It’s going to be a lot of fun, you’ll like my friends,” Serizawa’s voice drifts back to focus, “and I’ve… Told them about you too.” He’s blushing, glad that you can’t see the red painted across his cheeks.
Your grip wobbles, phone nearly falling on your face when you gasp, “You have?!”
“A-Ah, should I not–”
“No, no! I’m – I’m happy you have! I’ve talked about you to my friends too… Besides the ones we play with…” How is it already 7 AM? “Hey, you don’t have to go to work or anything do you?”
You hear him yelp, “I-I do! I have work! I gotta go! Sorry!”
How can somebody sound cute even when they’re panicked? How smitten with this man are you? “Go, go, go! Talk to you later, Serizawa-kun!”
The phone line ends. You wish it didn’t. You already miss him. You blink, your retinas burning from the lack of sleep, your lids suddenly so heavy you can’t help but… Close them for just a little bit…
And when you wake up – is that really the time? – you’re greeted with a flurry of notifications but the only one you really care about is the message from Serizawa.
🗨 Very tired at work but I am glad we got to talk. I hope we can do it again sometime.
Sometime would end up being an understatement. You go a day, tops two without talking over the phone, the next few times coupled with alerts that remind you to GO TO SLEEP because otherwise… You’ll end up repeating a sleepless night and as cute as Serizawa’s eye bags were (he’d sent you a selfie for the first time that week, which you stared at for an amount of time you are still too embarrassed to utter aloud), you weren’t about to make them worse… Though you were tempted.
And so was he.

Under The Mistletoe
Pairing: Serizawa Katsuya x GN!reader
Rating: Teen (16+)
Summary: Spirits & Such is decorating for the holiday season! You and Serizawa still have a newly-blooming relationship and you try to be smooth with mistletoe.
Word Count: 2.6K+
Contains: Fluff, awkward early relationship tension, the S&S family, rushed writing, I did Not Check this I'm sorry :'))
A/N: I really wanted to write something sweet and short with Serizawa so it's a little silly. Especially toward the end. Hope you still enjoy!
Tumblr media
It was a short walk from the train station to Spirits & Such. Mornings during the weekends weren’t usually too busy in Seasoning City. You and Serizawa commuted to work together that morning like you would any other day. It was how you grew so close and eventually formed the early phases of your relationship in the first place.
When it was your stop, you and Serizawa left with clasped hands. One of your latest intimate gestures… You quickly learned that Serizawa was a very affectionate person. It would take a bit of patience and reassurance at first, but he loved being physically close to you. Even if the hand-holding still made you blush like kids.
It always flustered you knowing Serizawa’s hands are fuzzy and much larger than yours in size. His soft palms feel therapeutically warm against your frigid fingers. He silently rubbed his thumb in small circles on the back of your hand in hopes of transferring some warmth to you. It was a small wordless gesture that you appreciated.
“Did you get home safely last night?” Serizawa asked, matching your pace despite his long legs on the wintery sidewalks. Recently, he started initiating the conversations first. He was quick at adjusting to your relationship. It was endearing.
“Ah, yeah! Thank you but you didn’t have to stay with me on the train… I’m sure you’re tired from classes,” you said remorsefully, noting the dark blotches under his eyes. Serizawa only offered a small smile and shook his head.
“It’s okay… I wanted to spend more time with you,” he admitted softly and squeezed your hand. Whether or not he meant to say those words so casually, your warm cheeks tingled and your heart fluttered in your chest. You lowered your head to hide your wobbly smile.
Christmas was still weeks away. But once the clock struck the first of December, Reigen was enthusiastically raiding the office early the next day wrapped in green tinsel with dusty brown boxes in his arms, red and gold glimmers shining through its worn lid. Evil and seasonal spirits are a must at Spirits & Such.
He wanted to have the office fully-decorated and bedazzled over the weekend to really wow the clients on Monday. Friday night, he rang up the S&S company for decoration committee help. Not because he couldn’t handle it himself but… Well, the holidays are no fun without the family.
You reached the office building and went inside, sighing at the warmer interior that welcomed you. The two of you exchanged simple small talk, talking about school, the snow lately, weekend plans. But as you got closer to the second floor, you could hear the recognizably clear drawl of your boss shouting through the walls.
“Mob! Bring it a little to the left!”
You and Serizawa stopped by the doorway, suddenly dropping whatever conversation you were having at the sight of a pink floating Christmas tree bumping the back corner of the office, scraping the entire wall. Their youngest employee with the bowl cut, Mob, stood near the entrance of the room in his blue turtleneck, using two hands as he relocated the bare tree with his powers. His eyes flicked between the tree and his mentor with concern.
“Shishou… I think this tree is too big.” A growing wooden crackle and snap attested to his hunch. The broken top of the giant tree hung sadly, quivering as the kid esper attempted to fit it into the gray corner.
“Ah, that’s just because my powers were so crazy strong the whole thing over grew when I touched it!! If someone else were bringing it up here, it would have stayed small!” Reigen barked dramatically, crossing his arms. Rubbing the bottom half of his face, he scanned the dangling snapped half of the winter tree wearily, trying to find a solution.
“Can you cut it in half with your powers?”
Mob threw his master a pointed look with hooded eyes and a flat frown that suggested: No, Reigen. He could not, in fact, cut the tree in half with his ESP.
Serizawa announced both your presences by clearing his throat next to you. Your coworkers all turned their heads and greeted you.
“Good morning, Serizawa-san, L/n-san,” Mob smiled over his shoulder, his attitude immediately changing when he saw you. Reigen switched right into boss mode, even without his coat on. He fixed his tie to his neck and waved the two of you over.
“Oh, perfect! Glad you’re here! We’ve just started decorating!”
“... Is that so?” You remarked, both you and Serizawa’s eyes lingering on Shigeo who was still trying to use his powers to cram whatever was left of the withering tree under their tiny roof. Your resident evil spirit, Dimple, flew into view, rolling his eyes.
“He’s trying so hard to make this work because he got this tree for free off the side of the road.” The blonde swatted the spirit away with an obnoxious fake cough.
“Hey! They were gonna dump the thing anyway! What a waste — I mean, look at the size of that thing!” Reigen whispered in a hushed tone.
“Did you look at the size of that thing before bringing it inside?” The green ghost retorted. Right on cue, a loud scraping noise tore through the room. Everyone turned to the tree, the jagged wood of the broken trunk top pierced through the ceiling to the upper floor. Various white dust particles and tile pieces fluttered from above their heads, ceiling lights flickering faintly. But most importantly, the tree stayed.
The middle schooler covered his mouth as he coughed, turning to the adults before giving a proud thumbs up. Reigen coughed quietly into his elbow, his eyebrows raised as he blinked in surprise, “...Well, I guess that works, too.”
Reigen divided the room in half. Mob and Dimple were on tree-decorating duty, Reigen would focus on his desk-area, and you and Serizawa would fancy up the rest of the office. Your boss would often jump sides bickering, getting distracted by the little things he found in his old Christmas decorations.
“Oh, these are nice!” he cheered, holding two jingling reindeer antler head pieces in his hands. “Mob!” He dashed over and subjected the boy to his accessorizing. But not before joining in with his own matching set of antlers.
“Haha! We look great! Ooh, I should get a picture. Hey- Stop that, you’re gonna get motion sick.” You laughed, watching Mob shake his head quickly to jingle the colorful bells on his headpiece.
You worked on untangling a roll of red tinsel for the walls, raising a quisitive brow at your boss. “What, you think this’ll bring in more business?” you joked. Reigen pointed at you and snapped excitedly.
“Yes, exactly! C’mon, who doesn’t love the holiday spirit? Here — hold these,” he explained as he handed two plastic candy cane props to Mob, sparing another two for himself. Where did he even get those?
“Well… not everyone celebrates Christmas, you know.”
“Pssh, I mean — Okay, sure, fine but- Look!” The blonde pawed at his deshi’s faux antlers, ringing the jingle bells and pointed at them.
“Jingle bells! They’re fun!”
“What are you, a cat?” Dimple commented while the man posed Mob for the photo like an action figure. You heard Serizawa’s warm bubbly laugh behind you as he passed by, carrying a box of little paper decorations for the entrance. You made eye contact, beaming at each other. Your eyes fell lower to the soft green collared sweater he was wearing.
“You look cute like that, Seri.” The words just slipped out. Your boyfriend made a tiny yelp and froze completely, staring at you wide-eyed. His entire face got hotter.
“S-Sorry?” You pursed your lips and tried not to make it obvious how hard you were staring at him.
“The sweater. I think you look nice in it,” you said quietly, holding back on your praise. Serizawa stood there opening and closing his mouth a little before he cleared his throat and awkwardly pulled his collar from his neck.
“O-Oh! Ahem! I-I see…! Yes, it’s new. My mom got it for me,” he smiled, rubbing the back of his neck as he explained. “...Thank you. I like it too.” You bit your lip. God, he was so cute without even trying.
You covered your mouth and turned your head, doing any random gesture to shake the embarrassed tingles out of your cheeks. “Are… you starting on the doorway now?” You hinted. Serizawa’s brows jumped and he looked between the doorframe and you.
“Um, y-yes! Yes, I am. I… Would you like to help?” You smiled and nodded, getting up to join his side. The two of you dug through Reigen’s old cardboard boxes, finding paper snowflakes, icicle cut-outs, reindeer, and candy cane decorations to stick on the walls.
Serizawa’s height was put to good use between the two of you. You handed him the tinsels and strings, leaving it to him to pin to the corners of the ceiling or wrap around the doorframe. All the while you stood beside him and appreciated the view.
“L/n?” You blinked back into the present.
“Yes?”
“Are there any white Christmas lights in those boxes? It might look nice for the door, don’t you think?” Serizawa wondered, leaning back and taking in the look of the entryway so far. You had to give it to him, he had quite an eye for these kinds of details.
“Let me see…” you checked each box, rustling loose leaves around, broken christmas lights, crumpled decorations… And then your eyes fell on something familiar.
“Oh!” Serizawa turned to see what you were exclaiming about. He startled at first, not expecting you to be standing right next to him. You pointed above your head. Puzzled, he followed with his eyes and they widened at the green and white bundle in your hands. He looked back at the plotting look in your eyes.
“Ahh, what are the chances? Looks like we have to kiss now. It’s tradition, you know?” The taller man blinked a few times before breaking into a blush, scratching the side of his face shyly.
“Isn’t it supposed to be when we’re standing under it?” You stiffened and scrunched your face quickly, searching for an excuse.
“Mmm, well yes! But you see, I’m having a little trouble getting this over your head. You’re too tall for your own good.” Serizawa only stood over you, tilting his head blankly like a puppy as he looked down at you.
You squirmed uncomfortably in this position, especially since it seemed like he was expecting you to make the first move. Maybe it wasn’t the right moment. Dumb joke.
You waved the mistletoe in your hand as you spoke, “Bahahaaah, kidding! Just- Just joking! I mean- Mistletoe under the entryway would… probably be a bad idea. Anyway. Um. Ahem! Sorry, let me find those lights.”
You moved to turn away from your boyfriend out of utter humiliation but felt the ground disappear from under your feet. Your eyes widened and you noticed the thin layer of deep purple energy coating your arms and legs. The ceiling felt a little closer than before.
“U-Um, Serizawa??” You chuckled nervously, hovering idly over him. He cupped his big warm hands around your face, pulling you a little closer to him.
“What, um…?” You swallowed shakily, your eyes unable to choose one place on his face to focus on… He was so close. You could see every wonderful detail in clarity. Had you never noticed the faint mole above his eyebrow? Or how long his lashes were? And the way his hair was starting to curl in again now that it was a little longer?
“…Does this help?” He asked you. You blinked. Your boyfriend smiled and pointed at the plant in your hand. You gasped and fumbled on your words excitedly, nearly dropping the mistletoe out of surprise.
“Oh! Oh, uh- y-yeah, sure! Um, yes, it’s… definitely higher now,” you stammered, shaking the plant in your hand. You looked back at him, finding a rosy smile on his face. Oh. No, wait that’s really cute. Your confidence came back.
“N-No choice! You have to kiss me now.” That familiar, deep, warm laugh of his met your ears again. He wrinkled his eyes, gaze lowering to your unkissed lips. He placed a warm thumb against the bottom one, parting it carefully.
“I guess I do,” Serizawa whispered closely. He leaned in gently and fit his plush lips between yours. His soft hands traveled to your shoulders, easing you back to earth. The weight slowly returned to your body and you sighed into the kiss you so wanted. His fingers danced behind your neck, other hand pressing you close against him. You tilted your head in an angle that allowed you to deepen the kiss more easily. Serizawa smiled against your lips, pulling you closer as he breathed in deeply. You ran your fingers through his curls and he caressed your cheek, kissing you one last time.
He pulled away first to your disappointment, resting his forehead against yours and looking down at you, catching his breath.
“This is new,” he hummed, pushing your hair from your eyes with two fingers. The soft pads brushing across your skin, making you shiver. “It’s cute when you’re the one embarrassed.” You gasped in surprise, your cheeks darkening upon seeing the teasing glint that appeared in his brown eyes.
This was new, indeed.
“Did I… do that right?” He asked, a hint of fear in the way his voice cracked. You couldn’t help but sigh, and stroke the curve of his cheek.
“You were just perfect, Seri,” Your boyfriend smiled but still looked worries. You leaned back and pretended to ponder.
“But you know… I think that traditionally, you actually need to kiss the other person twice under the mistletoe,” you said flatly, giving him a serious look. Serizawa snorted at this, losing composure and laughing into your shoulder. Your poker face threatened to crack as you wrapped your arms tighter around him. You smiled, watching any lingering traces of doubt slip away.
“AAAHHHHH! Serizawa-san!!” You quickly broke apart from each other and snapped your heads around, looking for the trouble. It didn’t take too long to notice. The two of you froze, eyes wide and jaws dropped. The office walls around you cracked and groaned as the Christmas tree slowly expanded outward, all of its leaves basked in a deep, glittery, purple haze.
“N-Not good!” Serizawa cried, running towards the tree, attempting to push everything back into place. Handfuls of mistletoe erupted from the cracks in the wall and base of the tree, crawling across the expanse of the walls and floor. Mob frantically concentrated his powers on the tree, willing it to stop growing. But if anything, the addition of ESP only quickened the rate of the tree. His hand trembled violently as he lowered it, swallowing harshly. A single bead of sweat dripped down his face.
“I...I can’t stop it…!” Reigen whipped his head to the boy then back at the massive tree with disbelief.
“YOU’VE GOTTA BE KIDDING ME!” The ornaments fell off their hooks and exploded, more ceiling tiles crumbling down to the floor. The sprinkler system triggered and soaked the office, pipes and internal structures bursting at the seams.
You could do nothing but stand back and watch, powerless, mistletoe in hand, knowing you were the reasons for the third renovation of Spirits & Such.

Reigen headcanon: He always chooses to treat the kids at the favorite food of whichever one seems to have had the worst day.
YES YES YES YES YES reigen food as a love language is one of my favorite things omg . i was saving this to maybe write something but nothing's coming to me right now but i do have Thoughts
Reigen would very quickly and kind of subconsciously memorize all of their favorite restaurants and what they order. oh Tome failed a quiz she thought he had in the bag? takeout's on the way here you go no you didn't ask for it. Shigeo's sad? we're going out for ramen come on. hey Teruki I grabbed you a bubble tea. no reason.
It's just completely subconscious. Shigeo mentions it one day and Reigen's just "I guess" but doesn't take it too seriously. I like to think he makes a hot pot whenever the kids raid his apartment for game night or something. he's not good at baking but he likes to cook and doing it for someone else motivates him to get better and to practice more consistently.
he only really gets it after he has a bad day himself and Shigeo brings takeout from their favorite ramen shop. and Tome leaves a box of his favorite tea on his desk. and Teruki stops by with Ritsu to drop off some takoyaki.
Just. sharing meals as a love language. I love that for him.

Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Part 6 Part 7 Part 8 Part 9 Part 10
Part 11 Part 12 Part 13 Part 14
Katsuya pressed his forehead to his desk and glanced sideways at the phone. Sweat was trickling down his forehead and his hands were shaking. He still didn't understand how he had been able to answer but there it was:
Ok
Just two letters.
They had been the hardest two letters in history to type. Katsuya had the impression of having run a marathon. Only two letters, but he might as well have signed his death warrant. What if he wasn't able to cross the threshold of the door? The last thing he wanted was to disappoint Reigen. He seemed pretty excited about the idea and it was the first time he'd ever asked him to do anything. Normally he was content to spend the evenings locked in the room with him.
It was still a long way until the time they had arranged to meet but the thought alone managed to make his breathing quicken.
"Shit" Katsuya grabbed the case on the fly and put it back.
He didn't want to know how he was going to survive the night if he was already this nervous.
It was just Reigen.
They'd been alone in his room dozens of times and nothing had happened. It didn't make any sense for him to get like this just because he had to leave the house. It was going to be late and there would be hardly anyone out on the street.
Katsuya opened his closet but found nothing to wear. Katsuya had never given much thought to his appearance, even before spending months locked in his room without going out. It was just Reigen, anything would be fine. He didn't have to overthink it.
Katsuya came out of his room, rolled up in his orange kimono. After fifteen minutes he had given up on clothes. His Saitama sweatshirt and navy blue jeans were going to have to suffice even if they were a little tight in the waist. His mother was watching Doramas while raiding a box of chocolates.
"Mom, do you think you could do something with my hair?"
"Your hair?" His mother stared at him for a second too long before reacting. "Oh, are you meeting Reigen? Are you going somewhere?"
"To-to see the meteor shower?" Katsuya frowned, not quite understanding the sly smile. " He asked. And... And I told him y-yes."
"That's great, Tsuya." His mother stood up and hugged him. Katsuya was sure it was a tear that had wet his kimono. "And something will have to be done about that hair, we can't let Reigen see you like this."
His mother pulled away using Katsuya's arms for support and stared at him. Katsuya hadn't seen that fond expression on his mother's face since he was but a kid.
------
Katsuya looked at himself in the mirror and tugged on one of his locks. It felt strange to see himself with short hair after such a long time. In his jeans and Nike's, no one would have thought he was the same hikikomori who hadn't left the house for almost a year.
"E-everything's going to be fine." Katsuya washed his face with ice water and tried to remain calm.
There were barely twenty minutes left until the time they had arranged to meet and things were just floating around him. Reigen was used to it. Nothing was going to happen if, because of his nerves, his powers ended up doing a little of their own thing.
"Ouch" Katsuya cut himself with the razor blade as soon as he heard the doorbell ring.
There went his twenty minutes.
"Your mother says you got a haircut?" Reigen walked in without bothering to knock. "Are you ready?"
"R-Rei--Reigen!" The blade slipped from his hands and fell clattering against the sink. "I'm almost done."
"I think that's the first time I've seen you in jeans. It looks good on you."
Reigen leaned against the wall, hands tucked in his pockets. Katsuya was barely able to react.
"You're bleeding" he added scratching his cheek in the same spot where Katsuya had cut himself.
For an instant, it was as if Reigen was speaking to him in another language. He felt completely ridiculous when he finally managed to react by stammering out an unintelligible reply as he rescued some paper to wipe the blood off with. The cut was barely a scratch that had already stopped bleeding.
"S-shall we go?" Katsuya asked trying not to look even more like an idiot.
"Whenever you're ready" Reigen laughed.
-----
For months, the idea of crossing that door had terrified Katsuya, convinced that something terrible would happen at the very moment he dared to set foot outside the house, but the moment had come and passed without pain or glory. The world had not shifted from its axis, nor had lightning struck him, nor had his powers caused the end of the world. Katsuya took a deep breath, noting the smell of the dampness of the night. Feeling the breeze on his face again was pleasant.
"Everything okay?" Reigen asked with feigned nonchalance.
Katsuya nodded his head. He wasn't the only one who had been nervous waiting for that moment. Maybe it was the darkness of the night that gave him a false sense of security but Katsuya felt like an idiot for having lost so many months to his irrational fears. With Reigen by his side, everything seemed simple.
"The park isn't too far and it shouldn't be crowded at this hour." Reigen grabbed him by the wrist and pulled him along. "On the mountain we would have seen it better, but if you want to go back, then we'll be closer to home."
The touch of his hand burned where his fingers curved directly over his skin. Katsuya wasn't able to concentrate on anything else.
"We can always make it back" Reigen stopped in the middle of the street and stared at him for a moment.
"N-no!" Katsuya couldn't help but miss the contact. "We've come this far, I want to see that meteor shower with you."
"Yeah?" Reigen grinned like a satisfied cat. "Who else were you going to see it with?"
-------
It was two hours past midnight when the first shooting stars began to paint the sky with their trails. The dew had begun to soak into their clothes after two hours lying on the wet grass. Katsuya could barely feel his fingers.
"Do you think anyone up there will be stargazing like us?" Reigen asked in a whisper.
"I'm guessing astronauts from the International Space Mission."
"I meant aliens!" Reigen sat up.
"I don't know, I never thought about it before." Katsuya rolled over on himself and let his arm act as a pillow.
Reigen sneezed. He looked like a chick, his hair frizzy from the humidity and the cold staining his cheeks.
"I think I'm catching a cold," he muttered, brushing his nose with the sleeve of his tartan bomber jacket. "Aren't you cold?"
Treacherously, Reigen pounced on him and slipped his icy hands under Katsuya's shirt.
"Dude! You're freezing!" Katsuya yelled running away from those two ice floes. "How can you be so cold?"
"How can you not be? Share a little." Reigen laughed and lunged at him again, attacking the back of his neck this time. Katsuya caught him by the arms in time. Their faces barely inches apart.
"Cheater." Katsuya couldn't look away from his lips. "I'm not that cold!"
"We'd better get going." Katsuya stood up, unable to look him in the face anymore. He was sure his face had to be red too and it wasn't because of the cold.
Reigen stared at him without understanding what had just happened but didn't argue. Before Katsuya knew it, he was already on his feet and had shaken the dirt out of his pants.
"Did I do something?" Reigen was barely able to look him in the face. "If I've done something, I'm sorry."
"No, it's just" Katsuya muttered noticing his powers vibrating under his skin. "Too many emotions for one night."
"Oh, right." The other boy looked at him again not too convinced. "Another day! It's only your first time away from home in forever! Almost three hours! Not bad!" Reigen forced a smile by patting him on the back.
Katsuya could feel a knot forming in his stomach. Reigen deserved so much more than a moron like him.

Does Dimple play any role in the nge au?
yeah! he works at NERV too. He's alive and human in this AU. He uh... honestly, I think he'd be one of the three technicians or whatever... (idk their names). so he's at the front trying to look out for these kids too. He's got the guts to stand up to Toichiro every once in a while, but he's punished for it a few times. In the bad ending of Evangelion when the military raids the base, he'd be the last one standing to defend reigen and mob before going down, too.

being a mob fan since 2016 is cool bc i get to see it finish up finally and its all very nostalgic but i have to stress that i do not trust 80% of the fandom on here. mp100 was at its high here at the peak of Ace Discourse so when someone says "yeah this user is a freak" rhey could either mean "they ship reigen and mob together" or "they headcanoned a charcater as ace and i raided a discord server about it" no inbetween

who is the bug squasher and who is the bug fearer, you or reigen (you can do serizawa too)?
🥲 Reigen is canon afraid of roaches so I’ll be stepping up to the plate with my can of Raid. My time to shine ✨
Serizawa would politely be putting the bugs outside.

i keep remembering the mp100 community on here tbh cuz like. i was in it since s1 first got animated, i been here through the 3 year wait for s2, and im still technically Here. like i been in this shit over 6 years and its a small community and has ALWAYS been so small even at its peak. any other big 'contenders' in the fandom are gone, i changed up my blogs a good couple times, i dont know how many ppl followin me still are og to the mp100 times. i talked w SO many people and was in some of the biggest discords and had fallen out w so many people. like i know all the oldest jokes, i started the 'moegami' edits n memes of mogami w anime eyes, the 'reigen is white' discourse and the bulshit with A Breach Trust (ew). the abot discord raid, those rp character accounts, the 'official' spirits n such website.
so much is like. gone. or forgotten. i follow dead blogs who i used to know who used to be hardcore in here w me in s1. n i Do miss it it was horrible and amazing and like. i dont consider myself so much 'in fandoms' as much as i just. am enjoying something and partake in other ppl enjoying things.but mp100 was THE first ever online community i been in and still it was the best.
