Transart on the weekend: Electro-pop legend Thomas Bangalter (ex-Daft Punk) on Saturday as a ballet composer in the NOI Techpark, on Sunday then “the whole N.C. Kaser” as a 12-hour immersive performance spectacle at the Taberhof in Flaas.

With an effective video message, the mythical French electro band Daft Punk disbanded in February 2021 - after almost 30 years, in which “the duo was at times the biggest and certainly the best thing in electronic and pop music to date had to offer”). And since even the two members apparently have scruples about building on their own legendary status, Thomas Bangalter ventures into completely new territory with his first solo work - his path leads him into classical music, or more precisely: ballet music. This is to be taken quite literally. Bangalter, himself the son of a ballet dancer, worked with Angelin Preljocaj, who is considered the most important French choreographer, for his large-scale orchestral work. Preljocaj commissioned the composition and also realized the associated ballet for “Mythologies”, which can be heard in concert by the Haydnorchester in the Italian premiere at Transart. It goes through the history of mythology in 23 acts. The music portal Laut.de praised the composition in April 2023 as “an all-round successful ballet accompaniment; "It's so good that you can imagine yourself and your actors far away from the stage" and described the work as "a bold, successful step for the musician Bangalter." The Haydn Orchestra is conducted by Lee Reynolds at the NOI Techpark. Saturday, September 23rd, 2023, 8:30 p.m. Bangalter will be a guest at the Transart OASIE on Saturday morning at 11:00 a.m. for a talk.

Flake's birthday greeting to Till

For Till Lindemann's 60th birthday tomorrow, Flake Lorenz has written a piece for Süddeutsche Zeitung. It behind a paywall, but it is wonderful - Flake's love, respect, and admiration for Till really shines through. Two snippets:

"The first time I saw Till was in 1986 in a club in Schwerin after a Feeling B concert. I noticed him immediately: Till was a big strong man who on the one hand radiated a natural authority, but at the same time seemed very shy. We didn't hesitate when he offered us a ride home with him."

(...) how he manages, in spite of everything, to really walk through his life completely free of any airs and graces, that still wrings deep admiration from me, even after 37 years. Cheering crowds, awards and honours really leave him completely cold. Organising a party for our entire crew seems to be more important to him than any concert. By the way, he has waived his rights as a lyricist for decades, so that all six of us at Rammstein earn exactly the same. In this way, Till has definitely prolonged the life of the band, because money is usually the trigger for a break-up."

Congratulations to Vladimir Burlakov who celebrated his professional coming out along with 185 other German LTBG+ performers.

Burlakov was born in Moscow and moved to Germany in 1996. Ten years later he was studying at Otto Falckenberg School of the Performing Arts. After graduating he began accepting guest and recurring roles on German TV.

Burlakov had been open about his sexuality with family and close friends, but not within the film industry. He became aware that he was subconsciously hiding being gay with producers and casting agents. He asked himself if maybe that’s why he didn’t get certain roles.

“I couldn’t be myself – and that’s why I had to break free.”

He decided to participate in Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazine’s 2021 declaration by 185 German LGBT+ performers to demand more recognition and diversity in theatre, film and television.

Vladimir isn’t afraid of negative consequences:

“I don’t worry. I’m still the same person and actor as yesterday and last week and two weeks ago and I believe that the people who believing in my talent will continue to cast me as an actor and not who I go to bed with.”

Burlakov celebrated his coming out shortly afterward by walking the red carpet with his partner Martin at the “GQ Men of the Year” gala in Berlin.

“It was not as exciting as I thought, because it was normal for me to have a nice evening with my partner,

Burlakov can be seen by audiences in the US in the Netflix series “Kleo” where he plays a very straight handler of German Stassi assassins.
