Hughie Campbell will be beating allegations of toxic masculinity!!!

First, almost every single character in the boys is doing everything they can to maintain power or gain more power, from Edgar, to Neuman, to Queen Maeve, to Atrain, the deep, to Annie to homelander and Butcher. Why is Hughie expected to be better because he’s been the moral center of this story? Hughie is someone worn down by the brutality, the cruelty and the deceptiveness of their world. I don’t fault him for actively seeking power. He has seen enough by now where he knows naviety will get you killed RE: Supersonic

I also see very little difference between Ashley and Hughie’s quest for power as they both started out as characters that were being walked all over before they transition to actively seeking power that is acknowledged and respected in their world. The world they lived in made them feel they’re not enough so they adapted. I actually think Ashley’s current position makes her worse because she’s exerting the same abuses that Stillwell and Homelander inflicted upon her onto others and will now uphold the abusive capitalistic structure that she learned as CEO (unless she has a change of heart down the line).

Hughie internalizes his physical powerlessness but he doesn’t extert any toxic male principles onto others. Hughie has always been powerful for his intelligence and as the first civilian to discover a weakness of a member of the seven and subsequently kill Translucent. But in the world of the boys, he’s surrounded by Supes that remind him of his physical vulnerability. In conclusion, let Hughie be complex and explore and fuck up until he realizes he was always great without tempV.

Historic wind tunnel facility testing NASA's Mars ascent vehicle rocket

The MAV (Mars Ascent Vehicle) team recently completed wind tunnel testing at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in a facility that has been a critical part of NASA missions going all the way back to the Apollo program.

The same facility that provided valuable testing for NASA missions to low-Earth orbit and the moon is now helping the agency prepare to launch the first rocket from Mars. The MAV is an important part of the joint plan between NASA and ESA (European Space Agency) to bring scientifically selected Martian samples to Earth in the early 2030s.

The testing took place July 10-15 and allowed the team to gather aeroacoustic data to help them understand the dynamics of MAV's design using 3D-printed scale models.

"With these successful tests, we are improving our understanding of MAV aerodynamics, integrated performance, controllability, and vehicle loading," said MAV Project Manager Steve Gaddis. "We will use the results to inform our design and make any needed improvements for the robust MAV needed to deliver Martian rock samples to orbit."

The test section of Marshall's wind tunnel is only 24 inches long and 14 inches in height and width. However, it can achieve supersonic speeds of up to Mach 5 (about 3,800 mph) and has a long history of testing iconic rockets, including Redstone, Jupiter-C, and Saturn, as well as space shuttle and SLS (Space Launch System) designs.

MAV aeroacoustics lead Annie Catherine Barnes, who served as co-lead for the July testing campaign, said the team tested scale models at multiple angles inside the wind tunnel to see how air flow might affect MAV's structure. Barnes compared it to turbulence on an airplane.

"We're looking for areas of turbulent flow for launch vehicles," she said. "We're looking for shock oscillations and large areas of pressure fluctuation that can cause a structural response."

The team will use data from the July testing campaign and other analyses to form a better estimate of the environments MAV would face as it becomes the first vehicle to launch from the surface of another planet.

MAV supports the planned Mars Sample Return campaign, which would bring scientifically selected samples to Earth for study using the most sophisticated instrumentation around the world. This strategic partnership with ESA is developing the technology and the preliminary designs for missions that would accomplish the first return samples from another planet. The samples currently being collected by NASA's Perseverance rover during its exploration of an ancient river delta have the potential to reveal the early evolution of Mars, including the potential for ancient microbial life.

Managed at Marshall, the MAV would launch aboard the Sample Retrieval Lander from Earth for a two-year journey to Mars. It would remain on the surface of Mars for nearly a year of receiving the samples collected by Perseverance.

After the Sample Transfer Arm on the lander loads the samples into a container in the rocket, MAV would launch from Mars into orbit around the planet, releasing the sample container for the ESA-developed Earth Return Orbiter to capture.

The samples are targeted to arrive on Earth in the early 2030s. The Mars Sample Return Program is managed by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California.

Im sorry but starlight and homelander deserve each other. They are exactly the same. Sure annie is "good" and homelander "evil" but they are the exact same. Both are just too stupid to figure out the long term consequences. Homelander keeps getting rid of his safety nets Stillwell and Edgar and surrounding himself with sycophantic morons. And like he doesnt even wait long to fuck up, he has murdered Supersonic, the dude they JUST HUGELY, PUBLICALLY BROUGHT INTO THE 7?!?!??!??? Oh yea, just sweep that under the rug. No one is gonna ask questions about this. And stupid starlight who gets a smidge of power over homelander and loses it most instantly by bring it up at the wrong time and in a way that fucking destroys that particular piece of blackmail. And then she starts blabbing to people in her childish attempts to build a supe force against homelander... in, im pretty sure, the 7 building????? And im sorry but she really thinks playing shitty pop songs will keep homelander from overhearing??? And yes, Supersonic told the absolute wrong person but his death - brutal and horrifying - is 100% starlight's fault. He knows nothing of the politics and people yet starlight blabs to him WAY too much info, he did not need to be told and she did it in the worst way. Her panicing and running to him and the super obvious best friend desperation when she asked him to join convinced Supersonic in the worst way and just set him up for bad decision making. No thought to setting him up for having to be sneaky and yeah, Supersonic didnt have to try and recruit on his own, stupid man-fix-woman's-problem thing that it was, but he is trying to help someone he clearly still cares about, but someone who never should have let him see so much of the picture without trying to actually protect him. And this isnt an issue S1 starlight would've had. But power has gone to starlight's head and just like homelander, she is using people to further her own plans, her own place in the 7.

A-Train

Yup I knew that was the reason he betrayed Supersonic and Starlight. If that’s the writer’s way of making him sympathetic it wont work on me. The only reason he’s going to start caring is because Blue Hawk hurt someone he cared about. Still a selfish man and the only way I can see him redeemed is if he not only quits The Seven but admits what he did to innocent people like Robin.

Homelander

Antony Starr acting skill is crazy especially the crazy face Homelander makes. To be honest I don’t think he’s all that interesting anymore. I really wish we’ll get a deeper episode about him besides him going crazy and might explode but this time Vought wont be there to pick up he pieces. Like a flashback of him (as a child) and Soldier Boy in the 80s. I feel like he’s uninteresting this season and just a parody of Donald Trump. I mean they always hinted it in the others seasons but this is a full blown parody.

Annie

Starlight really shocked me. I didn’t think he would ask Hughie about the weapon after Homelander’s threat. She’s actually a very strong person despite the stress eating and drinking.

Hughie

I’m not trying to defend Hughie or anything and he is showing toxic masculinity but the only reason he became that way was because of all the crap he’s going through and the people who basically bullied him for being weak. He couldn’t save Robin and now he’s worried about Annie dying. I really wish the writers say something like I can’t lose you like I lost Robin or something like that. He tried to do things the right way but lost all hope when he realized how much Vought is in control. In a way he’s going crazy like Homelander and Butcher.

Queen Maeve

I saw some people are blaming Butcher for her drinking again but she’s a grown ass woman and can make her own decision. Plus Butcher most likely didn’t know she was sober and he was for a year. I feel like she had sex with Butcher after he basically threatened kill all supes because she hates herself and wants to die. Poor thing.

Butcher

I know many hates Butcher for what he did to M.M. but to be honest I knew that was the plan all along because it makes the most sense. I have a feeling his brother died because he made a decision for him that he regretted. That’s why he let Hughie decide if he wanted to take temp v or not. Butcher betraying M.M. like that was horrible but I get it because it might be the only way to kill Homelander. Plus Buthcer wants to kill all supes so maybe he’ll kill Solider Boy after he kills Homelander?

M.M.

I know M.M. didn’t mean it but it broke my heart when he said he didn’t care about Kimiko. M.M. picking to go after Soldier Boy over his daughter is sad but it’s understanding because if he stayed Soldier Boy would still occupy his mind and that’s not fair to his daughter. he better watch out because she’s being shaped into what her step father wants her to be.

Frenchie

Surprised Frenchie actually killed children. I hate that. I wonder what Kimiko will think of him if she ever finds out. I wonder if he’s happy for Kimiko or if he’s worried about her getting killed. Edit: Think I misunderstood and Frenchie didn’t actually kill children.

Kimiko

I’m happy Kimiko is happy but I really wanted her to keep her powers. Maybe he not being a supe anymore might keep her safe from Butcher if he ever does go crazy and kills all supes.

Soldier Boy

I’m not sure if he actually loved Crimson Countess or if he’s just trying to manipulate her. I can see some parallels of him and Homelander because they think everyone loves them but really people hate them. I really hope we actually see him doing evil horrible things because we’re hearing about it but not really seeing it.

One last thing

Homelander knows how Butcher smells!!!! Why?

Edit: I forgot to mention how the Russians torturing Soldier Boy reminded me of the animated Homelander going through the same thing as a child. I wish they would show this in the show.

CHRIS LACY, In The Violet Reality. AUGUST 29th 2020.

“Yes, you read that right. There’s a difference between “greatest” and “best.” Merriam-Webster defines “greatest” as “remarkable in magnitude, degree, or effectiveness.” They also define “best” as “one’s maximum effort.”

With that said, it makes perfect sense to say Thriller is Michael Jackson’s “greatest” for changing the way we hear and see music. Smooth Criminal is his “best” because we see the King of Pop at the peak of his powers. Some of you agree with me. Others might think I’ve got one brain cell running laps in my head. (If you’re in that second group, hear me out.)

PASSING THE TORCH:

“Michael grew up a huge fan of Old Hollywood movies and Broadway theater. During his Grammy Legend speech in 1993, he said, “I remember [when Janet and I] were little, I used to ask her to be Ginger Rogers while I was Fred Astaire.”

After moonwalking into history books on Motown 25, Jackson got a phone call the next day, from his childhood hero. (“Oh, come on,” was his first reaction.) “You’re a hell of a mover. Man, you really put them on their asses last night,” Astaire told the future King of Pop. “It was the greatest compliment I had ever received in my life,” Jackson gushed, “and the only one I had ever wanted to believe.”

Shortly before Astaire passed away from pneumonia in June 1987, he said, “I didn’t want to leave this world before meeting my successor. Thank you, Michael.” It was as if Smooth Criminal was the short film he was born to make”.

A MASTER AT WORK:

“As a song, “Smooth Criminal” is an epic crime drama that steals a page from Alfred Hitchcock’s Rear Window. An unknown man breaks into a woman’s apartment. We don’t know why he’s there or if she will live to tell about it. On paper, that might sound like Michael’s character is a peeping Tom. But what does that make us, the audience? We’re listening to him — watching them!

He attacks each verse with a gruff rasp, spitting out words like shrapnel, and his soaring falsetto weeps over the chaos below. (“Annie, are you OK? / Will you tell us that you’re OK? / There’s a sign in the window / That he struck you — a crescendo, Annie!”) One of the fascinating parts of Michael’s work was the way he turned his torture into music that made the whole world dance. With ghostly keyboard swells and spidery basslines, “Smooth Criminal” sweeps you into its clutches before pouring its dark charms on the dance floor and casually tossing a lit match. On a filmmaking level, Smooth Criminal is a nine-minute highlight reel from the first frame to the last. I mean, what’s not to love?

•MJ flicks a coin across Club ‘30s into a neon–lit jukebox. •He showcases a dance style, inspired by ‘The Band Wagon’ (1953) and Looney Tunes animation. •MJ shoots a thug with a revolver through a brick wall near the staircase ! •His supersonic spin on the bar room table before the window shatters... •MJ makes jaws drop around the globe with an anti-gravity gangster lean ! •He unloads a Tommy gun on Mr. Big’s troops who are hot on his heels.

We’re watching a master at work. Yet all we wanna do is line him up against Thriller and make sure he loses. Why can’t people realize that you can enjoy one without tearing down the other ?! While MJ was a fierce competitor, he knew how stacked the deck was. “You can always say, ‘Aw, forget Thriller,’” he wrote in his 1988 book, Moonwalk. “But no one ever will.”

EMBRACE DEBATE:

You’re still not convinced, huh? OK then, let’s do this ! “Without Thriller, there’s no Smooth Criminal”. If that’s the case, then there’s no Thriller without Billie Jean, Beat It, or anything else he did before that. Are we celebrating which came first, or which did it the best? “People are still playing ‘Thriller’ every Halloween because of Mike.”

As a song, I agree it’s a must-hear every October. Here’s the thing, though: Some forget that Quincy Jones asked Rod Temperton to write “Thriller.” Some of Michael’s critics believed Jones and his “killer Q posse” of collaborators were the driving force behind ‘Off the Wall’ and ‘Thriller’. Please don’t get me wrong: They deserve endless praise for taking our favorite hits to the next level. At the same time, Michael was more than a “song-and-dance man.” “Smooth Criminal” proves that his pen game could spark head-bobbing and hip-shaking motions of approval. “All that moaning and groaning in the middle of Smooth Criminal is weird”... I felt the same way until I realized he and the Club 30’s patrons are mourning for Annie. Music and dance were Michael’s release from emotional prisons. Take ‘Black or White’s “Panther Dance”, for example. He took a bold chance with his Art, grieving with victims of racism and prejudice. But the reality of being black was too much for TV, so he made a “shortened version” of the film. “Yeah, well, Thriller made it into the Library of Congress. That’s how influential it was.” True, and Smooth Criminal is the centerpiece of his 1988 feature film, Moonwalker, and a Sega video game of the same name. But the influence doesn’t end there. “Michael always said, and not just to me, that Smooth Criminal was his favorite piece,” longtime choreographer Vincent Paterson shared in a 2013 interview with Clash. “To me, Michael saying it’s his favorite piece is kind of evidenced by so many things that originated in Smooth Criminal, you know: the band around the arm, that kind of hat, the white coat. He took on that persona of the Smooth Criminal character and carried it on for almost the rest of his life.”

FINAL THOUGHTS:

“Life has taught me there’s no such thing as war between the humble and the humble. Civil debates aim to progress ideas and not rush to conclude that one side is right, and the other is wrong... If you love blockbuster pop, you can and should love them both. At the same time, Art should always be examined, re-examined, and challenged.

•Thriller is the greatest piece of musical theater ever made for a pop song. Bar none.

•Smooth Criminal is the ultimate Michael Jackson spectacle. It’s one of the many reasons why the King of Pop will never lose his crown.”

It isn’t Ace Attorney related, but I’m proud enough of it to want to post it here.

Basically I:

Took the Super Eurobeat compilation series, with 250 volumes

Divided them into groups of 5 (1-5, 6-10, etc etc)

Chose one (1) song from each album group

Took the riff from that song

Converted it to MIDI, by ear

Repeated 4 and 5 for all 50 songs

Strung them together and added nice embellishments

And now I have this. I’m not apologizing.

Fun facts!

I did Running in the 90′s completely by memory

Gas Gas Gas has the only riff that lasts 9 measures (the rest last 8)

DD Dance gave me the most grief

Blade Runner is not in fact related to the movie of the same name

No songs were taken from volumes where the number is a factor of 10, due to those only featuring songs from the past 10 releases.

#41 (Face the Race by Powerful T.) was originally Super Eurobeat by Dave Rodgers feat. Futura, but I deemed the riff too difficult to transcribe. This is the only song that was changed during development.

– Herb-A-Lize It: From humble beginnings, to becoming The Dutch Number One Champion Sound. Herb-A-Lize It was born in east-Holland in the city of Enschede (En-ska-day). It all started after Stef visited the Reggae/Dancehall epi-center, Jamaica-Jamaica back in 1995 and tasted the true essence of this musical culture, which we have grown to love so much.He returned to Holland with a head full of ideas and a burning desire to get Herb-A-Lize It up and running. Sultan, a long time friend and a local DJ on the scene in En-ska-day at the time, joined the sound in 1998, bringing his charismatic, never give up, take no prisoners mentality to the Sound. This was the start of Herb-A-Lize It Assault on the Dutch Reggae/Dancehall scene.

In 2001, the caribbean infiltration on the sound began. Jamaican born Daddy Jim, the wickedest, free-styling spitter in town brought his MC/lyrical talents on board. Possibly one of the baddest selectors on the scene, Trinidadian D1 from the Jam Masters crew followed in 2005 and becoming the main selector of the sound. Fyahmunk has been the last island man to join the crew so far. Straight outta St. Maarten, he brings his mad, versatile, explosive MC-ing style into the mix. In 2009 Herb-A-Lize It became even more multi-membered (and multilingual and – cultural) as Columbian born young selecta Carlito, who on-stage contributes to the appearance of Reggae/Dancehall party- and clashmachine Herb-A-Lize It and Souljah, born and bred Tukker like Sultan and Stef, started alongside Stef to concentrate on both Herb-A-Lize It’s ever expanding dub box as well as backoffice duties.

– Taranchyla: Taranchyla aka Madd Spider is a dancehall deejay, sound system selector/micman, and producer based on Tampa, Florida. Born of Jamaican heritage in Brooklyn, New York, he joined the Tampa sound system King Chalice in 1998 at the age of 19, joining Tampa’s Poison Dart sound a few years later. He rose to prominence as Poison Dart’s micman (emcee), gaining a reputation for his intellectual speeches. He began deejaying studio tracks and sound system dubplates by 2010, and released several riddims of his own production in 2012, including the Hot Water riddim.
