Deer Editor - spoiler-free review
Tumblr media
Deer Editor is a noir comic about a crime beat editor Bucky who is also an anhtropomorphic deer. There are no other half-animal characters and mostly no one aknowledges this issue.
The high-concept is in place as we follow Bucky trying to do his job.
The mystery is handled deftly. Ryan K Lindsay has a good grasp even if some parts were a tad too dialogue heavy. Even for noir. Sami Kivelä draws in a realistic manner which grounds the comic. Together with colorist Lauren Affe the interior art is almost Black and White but subtle use of blue hues increases the noirness. Enchanses the mood and brood.
Tumblr media
It is quite obviously a labor of love. Occasionally art has stiffness in some panels and it also is in my opinion a bit too wordy at Times, but it is good. This is not a funny animal story. There is humor but but far from comedy.

'Deer Editor' started as a successful Kickstarter with support from comics creators around the world. Its recolored, re-lettered, re-edited, and reoriented pages have given it a whole new life as it goes to print for the very first time! It's great for fans of Blacksad and Chinatown.
