Pretend Blaze the Cat were to get her own standalone spinoff game. What would you want them to do for an antagonist? (Since she definitely doesn't have one. Nope. No siree bob.)
Well, I think that like Sonic, she's probably pretty afraid of water, but for different reasons -- water douses fire. Getting splashed nullifies her source of power.
So I think we'd need something based around water. We could bring back Captain Whisker, who is a much more creative "alternate universe Eggman analog" than Eggman Nega.
Tumblr media
If we're under the impression that seafaring is a big part of the Sol dimension, and it has a vast ocean that covers most of the planet, maybe it could be some kind of mythical sea beast.
Like, we have alternate universe analogs of stuff, right? So maybe we have a version of Chaos, under a different name, with a different personality, but this being controls the power of water and can freely (and often does) switch between a character form and a gigantic leviathan form. Some kind of mermaid creature that considers itself the ruler of this world, and the abundance of water is them exerting their will.
So instead of SatAM Robotnik where we have this dark, dystopian world where most of it is already conquered, and we have this tiny team of rebels trying to reclaim it inch by inch, we have a world covered in water, by a tyrannical Poseidon-type ruler of the oceans.
Maybe that puts Blaze at too much of a disadvantage, though. Maybe this Poseidon-person, sort of like dolphins and whales, still needs to breathe air, so Blaze can catch him when he's out of the water. And though water douses flames, maybe Blaze can still boil the water if she focuses hard enough. I dunno.
I can already feel like this is turning into a dead end and isn't that cool. Maybe their relationship is less totalitarian and more like a rivalry. This Poseidon villain is more chaotic. Like Maui in Moana, where he's kind of a jerk and does whatever he wants because nobody's ever told him no before. Spoiled by power. Clumsy with it. An easy mark for Blaze to humiliate.
But they kind of remain at an eternal stalemate because neither can really hurt each other, something that frustrates Blaze so much, because she can never seem to get through to this person. To some degree they almost have an uneasy truce, where Blaze just tries to avoid dealing with them because it goes nowhere. Which is why we never saw them in Sonic Rush Adventure or any other supplemental material.
Give it almost a Knuckles sort of energy to their dynamic, even. Heck, maybe this character even guards what is the Sol dimension's version of the Master Emerald, and that's where they draw their power from. Eggman with the gullibility of Knuckles and the powers of Chaos.
Now I'm starting to feel it a little bit.

iirc one of the suggested GoT spinoffs centered around the Sea Snake's adventures? That would be so cool if they actually went through with it, especially 'cause I'm loving Steve Toussaint so far.
It would be so fun to see that especially because Corlys travelled to a lot of interesting places like the Thousand Islands, Asshai and Yi Ti. A show centered on Corlys' adventures would also really help to flesh out the various cultures of Essos (which is quite lacking compared to what we know about Westeros).
I believe there's a Nymeria spinoff being planned as well. HBO is all in for the seafarers.

Game of Thrones spin-off moves from live-action to animation
Tumblr media
The end of 2023 gave us another update from George R.R. Martin about the Game of Thrones spinoff projects he’s working on with HBO. And while progress still seems slow, it looks like one of the prequels in development has shifted from a live-action endeavor to an animated series. “We have moved Nine Voyages, our series about the legendary voyages of the Sea Snake, over from live action to animation. A move I support fully,” Martin wrote on his blog. He added, “Budgetary constraints would likely have made a live action version prohibitively expensive, what with half the show taking place at sea, and the necessity of creating a different port every week, from Driftmark to Lys to the Basilisk Isles to Volantis to Qarth to… well, on and on and on. There’s a whole world out there.  And we have a lot better chance of showing it all with animation. So we now have three animated projects underway.” The Sea Snake (aka Corlys Velaryon) takes place in the years before we meet him in House of the Dragon (played by Steve Toussaint) as the husband of Rhaenys Targaryen (Eve Best). The titular nine voyages refer to the seafarer’s journeys to nine different parts of Westeros and the bloody adventures that happened along the way. The project, which has gone by the titles 9 Voyages as well as The Sea Snake, joins two other undisclosed animated spinoffs in the works. “None of them have been greenlit yet,” wrote Martin, “but I think we are getting close to taking the next step with a couple of them.” Martin gave no update on the other live-action projects: A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight, which has been greenlit for a series order; a Jon Snow spinoff, which HBO has yet to greenlight; and another project centered around King Aegon and his sister-wives. Martin also praised the Netflix animated series Blue Eye Samurai and recommends people watch it. “Even if you don’t normally watch animation, give it a try. It’s terrific,” he wrote. “If you like my own stuff, I think you’ll love it.”

Disney Reportedly Wants Harrison Ford For Indiana Jones Streaming Show
Thankfully, then, it seems that the fifth (Indiana Jones) outing may not be the last we see of the actor in the role, as insider Daniel Richtman claims that Disney wants Ford to appear in a series that’s being developed for their streaming service. Further details are unclear and the tipster doesn’t say if it’s an all-new show or a reboot of The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, but as one of the Mouse House’s most valuable assets, it wouldn’t be a surprise if they wanted to continue mining the property once Indiana Jones 5 wraps up the big screen stories for good.
Thanks everyone! Hopefully in 2021 the pandemic will fade and the world will return to normalcy. Luckily the production of Indiana Jones V will start this spring, as well as other Harrison projects such the tv show The Staircase and the movie starring with Ed Elms. Fingers crossed for a year full of (good) news about Harrison. Have a happy and safe 2021.

Katherine Helmond, the seven-time Emmy-nominated Texas actress who played the feisty, man-crazy mother Mona Robinson on the long-running ABC sitcom Who’s the Boss?, has died. She was 89.
Helmond, who earlier starred as the wide-eyed socialite sister Jessica Tate on another popular ABC comedy, Susan Harris’ daytime-serial spoof Soap, died Saturday of complications from Alzheimer’s disease at her home in Los Angeles, her talent agency, APA, announced.
The shapely, blue-eyed Helmond also portrayed Doris Sherman, the widowed owner of the fictional NFL team the Orlando Breakers, on ABC’s Coach, and she was Lois Whelan, the upper-class mother of Patricia Heaton’s character, on CBS’ Everybody Loves Raymond.
On the big screen, Helmond appeared in three Terry Gilliam movies — as the seafaring cannibal Mrs. Ogre in Time Bandits (1981), as Jonathan Pryce’s rich, cosmetic surgery-addicted mother in Brazil (1985) and as a hotel clerk in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (1998). And she provided the voice of Lizzie, a 1923 Ford Model T, in the three Cars movies.
More recently, she appeared on True Blood.
Helmond received Emmy noms for lead actress in a comedy for playing Jessica in every season of Soap, which aired from 1977-81. She was nominated again for Who’s the Boss? in 1988 and 1989 and for Everybody Loves Raymond in 2002. And she won two Golden Globes, one for each show.
The 5-foot-2-inch Helmond also showed off her glorious cheekbones when she earned a Tony nom in 1973 for best featured actress in a play for her work in Eugene O’Neill’s The Great God Brown. She often said that the theater was her first love.
After Helmond toiled for years in small, dramatic parts on television, her agent thought it was time that the actress did some comedy.
"I was married to drunks, I got knocked around and battered and beaten and taken advantage of,” she said of her first TV roles in a 2008 interview with the Archive of American Television. “That’s one of the reasons I got switched to comedic roles. My agent said, ‘I just can’t bear to see you knocked around on television any more. … We’re going to try for a sitcom.’”
When she auditioned for Soap, Helmond said that Harris sat very seriously, never laughing, but by the time the actress had arrived home from their first meeting, she learned that she had gotten the part.
Soap, as described in the opening, was “the story of two sisters — Jessica Tate and Mary Campbell.” The wealthy Jessica had a philandering husband (Robert Mandan) and a sarcastic servant named Benson (Robert Guillaume); Mary’s (Cathryn Damon) family, meanwhile, was blue-collar.
Helmond said that Jessica “floated through life; it was like music playing all the time. [Harris] said that I had captured that, that I was very loving and wide-eyed about life, more child-like than stupid.”
On Who’s the Boss?, which aired for eight seasons from 1984-92, Helmond’s sexually active Mona dated all manner of men. She played the mother of a divorced advertising executive Angela (Judith Light), who employs a retired St. Louis Cardinals second baseman (Tony Danza) as a live-in housekeeper in Fairfield, Connecticut. His daughter (Alyssa Milano) and Angela's son (Danny Pintauro) also live there.
Mona was a widow who moved on from her husband's death by "throwing caution to the wind, doing whatever comes up, thinking my own thoughts, being a little more risque," Helmond said. She heard from viewers who benefited from that characterization, she noted.
"If life dealt you some unfortunate blow, you would still be able to go out into the world, find new friends, find new jobs, find a new way of living if you knew who you were," she said. "I felt like I was giving a free lesson to a lot of people who are in that position … I got wonderful letters from people."
Helmond noted that ABC filmed a pilot for a Mona spinoff, but it was not picked up.
Milano paid tribute to Helmond on Friday, captioning a series photos of her co-star with the words, "My beautiful, kind, funny, gracious, compassionate, rock. You were an instrumental part of my life. You taught me to hold my head above the marsh! You taught me to do anything for a laugh! What an example you were! Rest In Peace, Katherine."
Light called Helmond "a remarkable human being and an extraordinary artist; generous, gracious, charming and profoundly funny. She taught me so much about life and inspired me indelibly by watching her work. Katherine was a gift to our business and to the world."
An only child, Katherine Marie Helmond was born on Galveston Island in Texas on July 5, 1929. Her father was a fireman and her mother a housewife, and she was the oldest of three daughters.
After attending Ball High School, she pursued acting in Houston and Dallas, then moved to New York with a handful of friends. When they had trouble finding work, they bought a theater in upstate New York and put on plays there. She said she did 10 years of summer stock.
She spent seven years with the Hartford Stage Company in Connecticut and the Trinity Repertory Theater in Providence, Rhode Island. After winning the Drama Critics Award for her off-Broadway performance in John Guare's Pulitzer Prize-winning play The House of Blue Leaves, Helmond followed the production to Los Angeles and quickly landed a guest-starring spot on Gunsmoke in 1972.
Helmond had a role in Arthur Hiller’s The Hospital (1971), and in Alfred Hitchcock’s Family Plot (1976), her character kicks over a headstone in a graveyard.
Gilliam originally cast Ruth Gordon for Time Bandits, but she broke her leg on a Clint Eastwood movie, so Helmond got the part. For Brazil, the filmmaker phoned her and said, "I have a part for you, but you're not going to look very good in it," she recalled.
Helmond said that she had a rubber mask glued to her face at 5 a.m. each day during production and wore it for 10 hours at a time. She developed blisters that needed medical attention, yet even during that time, she found "great joy in acting."
"I felt I blossomed as a person when I got a chance to act," she said. "Through all the many years now, I’ve never fallen out of love. It’s been like an incredible marriage that really worked. I enjoyed every minute of it.”
Survivors include her half-sister, Alice, and her husband of 57 years, David Christian. She met him at The Hampton Playhouse Summer Stock Theater, where he was the set designer and she the leading lady.
"She was the love of my life," Christian said. "We spent 57 beautiful, wonderful, loving years together, which I will treasure forever. I've been with Katherine since I was 19 years old. The night she died, I saw that the moon was exactly half-full, just as I am now … half of what I’ve been my entire adult life."
A memorial for family and friends is being planned.

Can the New Game of Thrones Spinoffs Redeem Missed Opportunities?
https://ift.tt/2OSwlML
While Game of Thrones fans have had two years to digest the show’s controversial coda, the conception of spinoffs shows have since dominated discussions; a notion HBO solidified with the news that three more spinoff shows are in development in addition to upcoming spinoff House of the Dragon and other projects. While the prospect of even more television shows might seem overwhelming, the new spinoffs will explore avenues from George R.R. Martin’s mythos that were either botched or missed entirely on the main series.
HBO confirmed to THR (as first reported by Deadline,) that three additional spinoff shows are in development under the working titles of 9 Voyages (a.k.a. The Sea Snake), 10,000 Ships and Flea Bottom. The trio notably boosts HBO’s known current slate of developing Game of Thrones television projects to a stunning six, counting the 2022-scheduled House of the Dragon spinoff, the developing Tales of Dunk and Egg spinoff and a mooted animated series. Interestingly enough, the first of the trio, 9 Voyages, enjoys the advantage of being the farthest along in development, since Rome and Gotham creator Bruno Heller is already working with Martin on the creative side. Plus, it will center on Lord Corlys Velaryon, a character from House of the Dragon, played by Steve Toussaint (It’s a Sin, Prince of Persia). That’s right, it’s a spinoff of a spinoff!
Notwithstanding the overwhelming nature of having this many projects on tap, the description of the new spinoff trio contains potential for the Game of Thrones franchise to redeem some missed Martin mythology opportunities from the original series. For example, 9 Voyages will focus on Corlys Velaryon, a crucial figure during House of the Dragon‘s era (300 years before the main series), known throughout Westeros as legendary mariner the Sea Snake. While the idea of Toussaint reprising the role to headline 9 Voyages has yet to be confirmed, it would be a solid deduction, and would also mean that the show could break franchise ground with the veteran black English actor as its lead.
Steve Toussaint as Banquo in a production of Macbeth; photo by Ellie Kurtz.
Additionally, for the first time in the live-action mythos, the series would put the spotlight on House Velaryon, one of Westeros’ oldest noble houses, who—hailing from the Blackwater Bay island of Driftmark—are a historically seafaring people, as indicated by its signature symbol of the seahorse. Interestingly, during the era of the main A Song of Ice and Fire novels, House Velaryon backed Stannis Baratheon’s royal claim all the way to its chilly end in the North. Yet, one Velaryon member, bastard Aurane Waters, cunningly broke ranks to ingratiate himself with Cersei Lannister, and would quickly rise to the rank of Grand Admiral and Master of Ships. However, the series never adapted Aurane, and instead transferred various aspects of his relationship with Cersei onto Euron Greyjoy.
Of course, before the spinoff commences, Corlys Velaryon’s involvement on House of the Dragon will center on his involvement in Targaryen civil war “The Dance of the Dragons,” during which he joined the royal lineage by marrying Rhaenys Targaryen, played by Eve Best (Fate: The Winx Saga, Nurse Jackie). He also became Hand of the Queen to self-declared regent Rhaenyra Targaryen, played by Emma D’Arcy (Truth Seekers, Wanderlust). However, to avoid major potential spoilers, we’ll just say that Corlys’ House of the Dragon-era life in King’s Landing will be (should it follow Martin’s lore,) altered by tragedy; something that would potentially set him up to hit the high seas for exploits more to his liking on 9 Voyages. Indeed, unlike the main show’s jumbled adaptation of the maritime-minded Ironborn, there’s potential here for a more lighthearted approach to the backdrop of ships and sails.

Does Game of Thrones Really Need to Be a Shared Universe?
By David Crow
Books
George R.R. Martin Sees His Shadow, Provides Hopeful Winds of Winter Update
By Alec Bojalad
Details are somewhat scarcer on the other two spinoff projects, 10,000 Ships and Flea Bottom, save for general outlines. The former will focus on a prominent figure in the ancient history of Westeros, Nymeria, princess of Dorne. The name will certainly sound familiar to Thrones viewers, since she had multiple namesakes on the series in the form of Arya Stark’s direwolf and one of the whip-wielding royal bastard daughters of Dorne, Nymeria Sand, who was played by Jessica Henwick. Indeed, around 1,000 years before the events of the main novels, Nymeria, a legendary warrior who escaped a centuries-long conflict known as the Second Spice War—fought between her Rhoynar people and the Valyrian Freehold—famously fled the continent of Essos as part of a fleet of ten thousand ships. The fleet ended up in southern Westeros, in Dorne, where the remaining Rhoynar settled and blended with the Westerosi to create a new hybrid culture. The land’s royal structure was thusly created when Nymeria married Lord Mors Martell, leaving a Dornish lineage showcased during the era of Game of Thrones. Nymeria was as close to a feminist figure as one could get in this world, which explains the frequent evocations of the name.
Consequently, with 10,000 Ships centering on the Dornish—or at least their exodus tale—the franchise has the chance to redeem the maligned Game of Thrones Season 5 storyline that saw Jaime Lannister and (in a story change,) Bron immersed in the royal drama of the Martell family; a plot that—due to the breadth of Martin’s source material—was noticeably butchered both in its pacing and the alteration—and outright erasure—of key characters. This is particularly the case with the way the show handled the daughters of hedonistic, fighting fan fave Prince Oberyn Martell, collectively known as the Sand Snakes (which refers to their Dornish bastard surnames). Not only did their television manifestations—played by Henwick, Keisha Castle-Hughes and Rosabell Laurenti Sellers—come across as superficial, riddled with cliched femme-fatale tropes, but only three of the eight Sand Snakes depicted in the books appeared on the series.
HBO
Lastly, Flea Bottom, as implied by its working title, will be set in the filthy, claustrophobic and labyrinthine slums of King’s Landing. With alleys rife only with pubs, brothels (not quite Littlefinger’s fancy hen houses), tanneries and smithies, the perpetually impoverished denizens of Flea Bottom don’t have time for social niceties or material matters, and will literally stab one another in the back to procure a life-sustaining meal. While Flea Bottom was featured prominently on the original series, notably via the exploits of Arya, Gendry and Davos (with the latter two having hailed from it), this particular spinoff should significantly shift the franchise away from the luxuries of kings, queens and lords to the exploits of Westeros’ hovel-hiding hoi polloi. That alone makes it a good platform to capitalize on themes and story avenues missed on the original series.
cnx.cmd.push(function() { cnx({ playerId: "106e33c0-3911-473c-b599-b1426db57530", }).render("0270c398a82f44f49c23c16122516796"); });
House of the Dragon is currently scheduled for a premiere on HBO in 2022. However, the array of fellow prospective Game of Thrones spinoff shows don’t quite have a specific timeframe as of yet.

Awarded Artists - Opetaia Foa’i
By now you should have seen Moana, the Disney musical about a Polynesian girl discovering her identity in a culture that has neglected its seafaring roots. It is a fantastic representation of Polynesia on the big screen, and the research process for the film involved an extensive consultation with representatives and elders from the cultures depicted.
The reason I preface with this point is the that singer/songwriter Opetaia Foa’i was a major force behind the music team for Moana, which has allowed fans of the movie to discover his music.
Foa’i’s music blends the rich cultures of the various Polynesian cultures together in engaging songwriting, traditional drumming rhythms and some excellent cinematography in their music videos.
Opetaia Foa’i moved to New Zealand from Samoa at age 9 but grew up listening to both the traditional music of Samoa and Tokelau and Jimi Hendrix.
His debut album Te Vaka met with great success, leading to a 3 month European tour with a band going by the same name as the album and snowballing into international acclaim around the world, with the band receiving much praise from attendees of festivals like WOMAD.
Foa’i has received four Tui awards from the VNZMAs and an award for international achievement over the years.
He was approached by Disney to write some of the music during the development process and these two interviews Stuff and the Spinoff with Foa’i make it very clear how important cultural authenticity was to his work. He was adamant that the native tongues of Polynesia came through in the music because the language was the connection to the culture.
