I always love takes like this...

Because it shows how much some people got their foot in the 90's anime ass.

Like the 90's anime didn't have the same damn structure the whole 200 episodes..

I mean.

Do a recap of what todays episode is going to be with usually Usagi or Luna doing the voiceover.

The first season episodes start with Usagi introducing herself to the audience (”Hi My name is Usagi Tuskino ”)

Sub-villain talks the big bad about mission to find the person with the special item of that season ( rainbow crystal, energy ,pure crystal, dream mirror, star seed)

The big bad tells the sub-villain not to fail the mission and in which they say they will not.

They leave and may say something the Sailor Moon and Senshi keep messing up their plans.

If it’s a group a sub-villains ,the other sub-villains who haven’t had a mission yet may come out and taunt the sub-villain who is currently handling the missions and tell them they could do better.

The sub-villain sets Naru I mean the victims to be it’s target.

The sub-villain goes out in normal clothes to look for their target.

Girls are either in school, at the crown or shrine or planning do an activity, study or discussing senshi business to talk about the new enemy.

Usagi is either eating, reading manga or not listening, Rei say some mean shit to Usagi, Usagi cries and call Rei mean ,Ami talks about they need to study, Mina is fangirling and scheming about a idol, Makoto says something about that guy being her senpai or about food or plants. Luna tells usagi she needs to be a better leader or do better with her study habits.

Usagi and Chibiusa get into it dealing with Mamoru.

Bonus if Usagi gets jealous of someone trying to shoot their shot with Mamoru

*insert which Senshi is being focus on which count as “character development”*

Bonus points if the victims of day interacts with that senshi and has a particular skill set of dream they want to pursue and the senshi talks to them about it. ( like want to write a book, become a artist, designer, fix a car etc.)

Sub-villain disguise themselves in the activity of day( school fair, cherry blossom festival, concert, dance, park) and meets Naru I mean the victim of the day for the first time.

*15 mins later*

Sub-villain finds Naru I mean their victim again and attack which they pass out after the sub-villain takes what they needed ( insert Energy, Rainbow Crystal of the Seven Great Youma, Pure Heart Crystal, Dream Mirror, Star Seed)

A senshi hear the scream and transforms.

They do their speech’s to the sub-villain

The sub-villiain laugh at them and call their youma out.

Usually the sub-villain dips right here or wait until their youma is defeated to dip.

Their Youma start attacking the senshi.

Usagi ,Chibiusa or Usagi and Chibiusa runs with her or their heads cut off.

The other senshi throw their attacks which is not effective....

Somehow Usagi about to get attack by the youma and a rose appears on screen.

Mamoru comes out of nowhere ( when some episodes he is not even in them to that point) saves Usagi ,Chibiusa and the senshi, throws a rose and say a speech.

Bonus if he gets stabbed and kidnapped.

One may throw another attack to weaken the youma.

* Depending of what Senshi is being featured they maybe the one to throw the attack to show their new power and that they believe themselves for a few mins.

* Bonus points it Mina and Makoto have to share a power up episode together because Ami and Rei already got their single episode focusing on them and because they are running out of episodes before the finale Mina/Makoto have to share.

Mamoru or one of the senshi say “ Now Sailor Moon!”

Usagi uses whatever rod she have that season with the attack sequence.

The youma screams, ( may say refresh) turns to dust and dies.

The sub-villain getting defeated again, say something to the Senshi ( Like” This is not the last time you see me Sailor Senshi!” and dips if they haven’t before.

The Naru I mean the victim of the day gets whatever the subvillain wanted back and starts to wake up.

They either see Sailor Moon or the Senshi or see whatever senshi they was interacting with in that episode. Either their senshi or civilian form.

The Usagi and the girls are back in their regular wear.

The senshi who is focus for that episode learns something that will forget next episode or will be never mention again.

Rei says another mean thing to Usagi and everyone laughs

End of episode. Give or take

Unless it’s mid season episode where some major plot is about to dropped or the last 5-8 episodes that make up the season finale.

Which in the season finale ( which is rushes since they spent majority of the season dragging the plot and now they are rushing it) majority of the team is khocked out or dead while Usagi have to do it all on her own.

But we are going to talk about Naoko's structure?

Like the first couple acts always be introductory acts to the plot and the girls get their own act while they defeat the subvllian who acts like the monster of the day ( Shittenou, A Sister, Witches Five, Amazons Quartet and Trio, Galaxia Senshi) which then the last half of the arc its pretty much action based and dealing with the big bad.

But StarS Arc feels at lot different.

One of my favorite things from the unaired “Saban Moon” pilot is that they had two of the seven great youma in it briefly

This was the guy that was reincarnated into Rei’s grandfather

And here is the cat that had a crush on Luna!

I wonder if they were going they would have had a rainbow crystal arc in their show too?

Moonlit Musings

Written for UsaMamo Week 2023, Day 7

Usagi was on her way back from Tokyo Tower, where she had been unwinding during the night, when Mamoru's out on a jog. Mamoru's protective instincts lead him to ask Usagi out on a date. Centered around Tokyo Tower.

I tried to get this out on time, but it struck midnight on me - irony of ironies. Well here you go. Thanks for reading.

I spent the day researching Azabu Juban, Tokyo Skytree, and Tokyo Tower...there's a lot I don't know yet. I've been an avid fan of Sailor Moon fanfiction for years, but I never really delved into the depths of the settings in which these stories take place, something that I was starkly reminded of when reading stories by FloraOne, for example. I'm really grateful I managed to complete this week's prompts, for my first ever usamamo week. It's been a dream of mine for a while, but I never thought I'd stumble into one shortly after I started writing fanfiction! So thank you, thank you, thank you.

Chapter 1

Sailor Moon perched upon one of the upper ledges of Tokyo Skytree. The youma battle had taken them further east tonight. Sailor Moon was feeling contemplative and in no hurry to head home. The battle had stopped a little after Tokyo Skytree went dark at 11 PM. She was going to linger for a while and then head towards Tokyo Tower, the tower that was the beacon to her little home in Azabujuban, hopefully timing it so that she’d get there at midnight. Sailor Moon could linger under the veil of darkness and think to her heart’s content.

It was strange, she thought, looking at the expanse below. Both had amazing views, but Tokyo Skytree - the tallest tower in the world and double the height of Tokyo Tower - made the world distinctly diminutive. Looking at Earth from such great heights seemed very familiar to her - as if staring at the Earth from space should seem familiar.

She loved the night. It made her energized. It made her tingle with awareness. She attributed it to her connection to the moon, the source of her power. She believed she’d happily be a night person if she didn’t have to go to school early in the mornings. She’d rather be up with the moon drawing or reading manga or trying some delicious food. Who knows what she would do if she had the optimal timeframe in which to exist? No, she had to conform to a Monday through Friday 8:30 AM – 3:30 PM schedule, with homework on top of that. She slept in bits and pieces because she had to – and because it was broken sleep, it was never enough, so of course she looked like she was a sleepyhead all the time. It was frustrating to have the others chide and mock her for her sleeping habits without being able to explain why. Or if she did explain, they’d probably minimize it and tell her to get over it somehow. As if magic worked that way. Maybe it did? The other Senshi were certainly more in tune with their powers and sleeping habits. It was only her that was out of sorts. Did they ever get issues if their planets entered a certain place in the zodiac chart? She didn’t think she could ask Ami about it without letting her in on her struggles.

Tonight was a Friday night. No school tomorrow – she could sleep in all day. Or would if her mother didn’t whack her awake by noon. Good habits and all of that. Nonetheless, noon was certainly better than seven. She was going to take advantage of it. This was going to be her time, away from Luna and the girls and annoying, gorgeous upperclassmen that made her think things probably no girl her age should. Oh, who was she kidding? She was a teenager, fifteen, for goodness’ sake. Her hormonal body vacillated between her nemesis and her savior without care even in one night of fantasies and self…care. They both made her tingle with a different kind of awareness. She didn’t understand why it had to be with two different guys – and two unattainable guys at that: one taunting, insulting, and generally denigrating towards herself; the other, while chivalrous and inspiring, was also distant and insistent she treat him as an enemy since they had different goals.

She started heading out towards Tokyo Tower at 11:45 PM, wondering if she’d get there at midnight. She decided to make a game of it, dashing from rooftop to rooftop with an exuberance that had her rolling after some leaps. She half thought to hold back a little, but she was having too much fun – it was so much like her morning dash to school. She needn’t have worried – she got there just after the tower went dark.

Perfect.

She settled in, staring out from her familiar vantage point, smiling softly at the city below. They were her people, and she was proud to protect them. She hoped they were getting decent sleep, without nightmares. She worked hard to give them hope despite the terrors the youma were causing daily. No matter how terrified she was and underqualified she felt, she was proud to be in a place to do something good for the world. It was worth losing sleep over, getting even worse grades than before, getting scolded by nearly everyone. She knew everyone, in their way, wanted her to be her best self. She wasn’t very good at balancing everything like her Senshi, but she wasn’t going to give up, because to give up would mean to let Tokyo – all of what she could see from up here, and more – down.

She didn’t know everyone in Tokyo (or in the world, for that matter, but Tokyo was the only place terrorized for whatever reason), but she loved them, loved them blindly with the abandon that only Tsukino Usagi would do. Like the moon; she loved them, protected them, and shone the light needed to navigate the darkness, all without discrimination or reservation. She wanted to affect change, as the moon made waves, while being unwavering herself. Strong in her devotion. Strong in her ability to protect. Strong to always love no matter what.

She didn’t know how long she sat there, her mind wandering under the moonlit sky, but when she finally shifted to leave, she felt rejuvenated, uplifted, and calm.

She surreptitiously dropped her henshin shortly after descending from the tower, deciding that she would enjoy a good, meditative walk. As she wove through the light traffic of pedestrians and bicyclists, she came across someone she’d never thought she’d see at that time of night. “Mamoru-baka?” she asked incredulously.

He started. “Odango Atama?!” He checked his watch. “It’s 4 AM and you’re not in bed? Are you sick?!”

“I’m perfectly fine, baka,” she said with a scowl.

“Then what are you doing out at night like this?” he said with a scowl of his own.

“Walking,” she said shortly, “and judging from your attire, you’re jogging.”

He blinked. “I couldn’t sleep, so I decided to do my jog earlier than I usually do.”

“Jogging in the morning sounds like such a you thing to do.”

“But not you,” he countered, getting the conversation back on track.

“I couldn’t sleep either,” she said with a shrug, “so I was hanging around Tokyo Tower.”

“In the dark, alone?”

“Sure. It’s very peaceful there.”

“Why not go when it’s lit?”

“I like it better in the dark.”

A moment passed. “The next time you want to go, do you want me to go with you?”

The weight of that offer fell onto the both of them. Usagi’s mouth went dry. “Um, sure. We can wait until after the lights go out before, you know, going.”

“Right,” he said gruffly. “Unless you’d rather go early to get as much time as possible?”

“So…get there at midnight?”

“...That would be what I’m saying.”

“Wow,” Usagi managed, her heart galloping at a fast rate. “You - you’d do that - with me?”

He nodded, wide eyed, as if he didn’t realize what he’d let slip and was barely catching up to that fact.

She smiled. “Okay,” she said. “It’s a date.”

Chapter 2

Date, she had said, finalizing the symbolism of what they were about to do. Only couples went to see Tokyo Tower at midnight.

He stared at her, speechless for once. Had he really, finally, asked her out? Although going to Tokyo Tower at midnight was a bit too intense, too rushed for a couple that was just barely getting together. Or were they? “Do you mean a date date?”

She frowned. “Didn’t you?” she asked in utter confusion.

“I did,” he admitted, releasing the truth he’d masked for so long now. “But perhaps you’d like an actual date first?”

She gaped as everything caught up with her. “You really are asking me out,” she said incredulously.

“I only asked you initially to keep you from getting hurt at night, Odango. You really shouldn’t be out this late at your age-”

“What kind of date?”

The question threw him. He hadn’t expected her to accept. “Well, we could visit the tower beforehand. The second level has good views.”

“It does,” she said with a smile. “But that will only hold our attention for so long. I wouldn’t mind hanging out at Momiji Waterfall for a bit. I’m a lover of nature.”

“So am I,” he said with surprise. He never would’ve thought whirlwind Odango would be interested in the peacefulness of nature.

“Of course we have to go to that curry place nearby, CoCo Ichibanya. I love curry, and it’s not that expensive. I think it’ll be open until midnight, too.”

“Sounds like a plan,” Mamoru said with a smile.

“Yeah.” She took a deep breath. “This is weird, don’t you think?”

He shook his head slowly. “No, I’d say this was a long time coming. I promise it’ll just be fun.”

“Okay,” she said, trying to picture it. “I bet we’ll fight like cats and dogs though.”

He smirked. “I’m okay with that. It’s our thing.”

Our thing. She blushed. “So...when do we do this?”

“It’s already Saturday morning. Have you even slept?” When she shook her head, he frowned. “Then I don’t think we should do this today. What about next Saturday? We’ll make a day of it.”

“Okay,” she said shyly, butterflies erupting in her stomach. She was going to go on her first date! With Chiba Mamoru! “Well, I’ll see you then!” she said as she turned to walk away. He automatically followed her. She stopped and waited. “Sorry, I forgot you’d want to walk me home.”

“I don’t know why you’d think otherwise,” he retorted as he matched her stride. “I’m not leaving my girlfriend out in the middle of the city when it’s not even dawn.”

“Girlfriend?” she echoed faintly, her heart thundering in her chest. How many shocks could her body handle in one day?

“Okay, maybe that’s going too fast,” he relented. “But you get what I mean.”

“Yeah, okay,” she said dumbly, leading the way to her house. They walked in silence. When they got to the corner of her street she turned to him awkwardly. “See you around,” she said lamely.

“Arcade this afternoon? Or will you still be sleeping?”

“Oh, I’ll be up by noon. Mama won’t have it otherwise. I’ll be there.”

He nodded in satisfaction, gave a mock salute, and jogged away, leaving one dumbfounded Senshi of the Moon.

Chapter 3

Usagi went to bed feeling like everything that had just happened was nothing more than a daydream concocted from her wandering imagination while she sat a little too long on that ledge of Tokyo Tower. It’s gotta be. She’d only imagined something like this, oh, hundreds of times, so how could it be that reality even remotely matched up to her dreams?

She must have fallen and hit her head somehow. Although that would’ve hurt a lot longer than it would take her Senshi healing to fix it.

She was close to hyperventilating. Only consideration for her slumbering feline guardian kept her from fully freaking out right there and then.

How was she supposed to act now? Everything was moving so fast. She went from worst enemies to dating! The arcade was their usual haunt for their verbal battles. She didn’t know how else to interact with him. She reminded herself that he did say it was their “thing” to fight. So maybe another verbal battle would be in order? Business as usual…mostly…

She was so tired. Sleep beckoned her, causing her to squash her worries under its weight. She’d deal with it later. Much, much later.

When she awoke, she was back to panicking.

“Usagi-chan, what’s wrong?” Luna asked.

She shook her head. Luna wouldn’t want to hear about her impending date, not when she was always going on about Senshi duties. A love life was just insignificant compared to their mission. “Nothing,” she mumbled. “Just a nightmare.” She pulled her clothes together and headed to the bathroom while Luna settled back into her earlier position. A quick shower refreshed her. She kept her outfit simple and normal: a pink dress that went to her knees, one she had worn many times. She wanted to look cute without trying too hard. Or so she told herself. She still half thought this was all just a weird dream.

A quick gathering of her things and she was off, walking to the arcade, her nerves getting the better of her. What if he’d just been impulsive? What if he’d changed his mind? What if he’d remembered all the things he’d called her in the time since they’d met and realized she was still very much undateable? She blinked away her tears and carried onward. She wasn’t going to know until she faced him. So with the strength and confidence she showed a youma in battle, she carried herself down the street and through the arcade doors. She found him sitting at the counter in his usual place, nursing his usual cup of coffee. She approached slowly, warily, as if he would suddenly turn around and shout, “Gotcha!” while laughing, rejecting her in the process. No, Mamoru would never do that to her. He was more of a gentleman than that.

“Hello,” she croaked as she stood behind him.

“Hello,” he murmured, turning slightly to face her.

She woodenly sat in the stool next to him, her bag tumbling carelessly onto the ground. “How was your day?” she asked awkwardly.

“I’ve been trying to stay busy the last few hours. I’ve tried to read. I’ve tried to write a paper due soon.”

“Oh,” she said, shuddering. Homework was an anathema to her.

“I can’t focus,” he confessed after taking a sip. “I’ve been waiting for you to get here since I got here after Motoki opened this morning.”

She shivered. “So this morning did happen?” she whispered.

His gaze darted to hers. “Yes it did.” Then hesitantly, he added, “Do you regret it?”

“No,” she said, a bit too forcefully. He winced. “No,” she said more softly. “Do you?”

“No,” he said vehemently. “As I said, it’s been a long time coming.”

“How long?” she asked. How long have you liked me?

“It’s come on so gradually I don’t even know.”

“It’s the same for me,” she admitted quietly. “The fights, they are…”

“Fun?” he suggested, raising an eyebrow.

“Yeah,” she said sheepishly. “I’ve never done anything like that before with anyone else.”

“Exactly. It’s our thing.”

“So…what happens now?”

“What do you want to happen?”

“I need to order food first.” She opened her mouth to wave over Motoki but Mamoru beat her to it.

“Oi, Motoki-kun! Odango needs to fill her bottomless pit!”

Motoki walked swiftly over while Usagi started turning red like a tomato. “A bottomless pit?! You JERK!”

“Get her a double cheeseburger, a large fry, and a strawberry milkshake. Oh, and a strawberry mango smoothie with boba. My treat.”

Just like that, her anger diffused. “You’re buying me food?”

“Yep,” he replied like it was the most normal thing in the world - and, she supposed, it would be for a boyfriend to do for a girlfriend, but they weren’t even quite dating…yet.

“Can’t you call me by my real name?” she settled on, still peeved.

“Nope.”

“Why not?”

“It’s unique and it’s our thing.” He tugged on one of her hair streamers.

She just blinked at him. He was acting so differently today, and yet, not - and she had no idea how to act around him.

“Relax, Odango. I’m not going to bite.”

She snorted. She thought of an image of a Mamoru-like youma biting her with amusement.

Her food came, and she was inhaling it in short order, hyper-aware of the male profile next to her, of the barest brush of his knee against hers.

“Thank you,” she got out after she’d finished off her smoothie - she was really stuffed from everything. She normally didn’t have the allowance to afford as much as he’d ordered for her.

“You’re welcome,” he said sincerely, glancing at her with tenderness. Her heart caught in her throat. He’d never looked at her like that before, and it made her feel funny inside.

The girls walked in then. Reluctantly, she slid off her seat, whispering, “I have to meet up with the girls. I’ll see you around, yeah?”

He regarded her with amusement. “Yes, indeed. Now run off to your friends. I have some studying to do.”

“Jerk,” she said, although the insult lacked any heat. She grabbed her bag in a hurry and started tripping. A hand shot out to steady her, to her mortification. His hand.

“Try not to trip all over yourself,” he breathed before releasing her.

The look in his eyes befuddled her brain. Whatever retort she had was lost. With a firm shake of her head she walked off to the booth where her friends sat impatiently waiting. Usagi tried desperately to keep up with the flow of the conversation, especially as pertaining to Senshi business, but her thoughts and her gaze kept straying to the upperclassman sipping coffee at the counter.

Chapter 4

Usagi avoided the arcade on Sunday. She needed time and space to think things through. It was all so sudden. She could hardly believe it. She could barely be in the same room as Mamoru without wanting to look at him.

She cried off going, using her homework as the excuse. The girls were shocked, but gave her the benefit of the doubt. Usagi put on some nature soundscapes then settled into her desk chair, pulling out her homework.

Luna watched, stunned speechless. Usagi ignored her, wanting desperately to prove herself - not only to her Senshi, but also to Mamoru, Mr. Straight A student. She felt her flaws now more than ever. She also had a theory she wanted to test…

She set a timer for twenty-five minutes, then set to work on her English assignment. She wrote notes. She brought out different colored highlighters. She drew. But she did get some sentences in. When the timer went off, she set a ten minute timer, then pulled out some manga.

“What are you doing?” Luna asked curiously.

“I’m trying something out that might help me study.”

“You’re turning your homework into art and barely getting anything done. Now you’re taking a break?”

“Hush, Luna. It’s part of the plan.” Luna huffed and turned away. Usagi tried to shrug off Luna’s dismissal. Usagi didn’t want to talk about it, but she suspected she had ADHD, and if true, then there were ways she could work around that issue to get things done - like homework. She was terrified to be wrong, though. What if the others thought it was just an excuse? What if she was making up things?

Well, there was no harm in just trying out some methods, right? It wasn’t the official diagnosis that was important, she reasoned. If the methods worked, maybe then she could confess her suspicions - because then it wouldn’t look like a bunch of excuses, at the very least.

How she was supposed to work around ADHD while being Sailor Moon she had no idea.

She set another twenty-five minute timer and worked some more on her English homework. She got frustrated halfway through the assignment though, so after her second break she pulled out her math homework. Three problems into that she gave up and started working on her Japanese. It wasn’t a lot that she got done, but she put in effort that she hadn’t before, so she counted that as a win - no matter how much Luna sighed.

“I’m going to Tokyo Tower,” she told Luna tiredly.

“It’s Sunday and almost midnight; shouldn’t you be going to bed?”

“I won’t be gone long. I just need to unwind.”

Luna grumbled under her breath about Usagi ‘unwinding’ already with manga. Usagi studiously ignored her.

“Moon Prism Power, Make Up!”

Then Sailor Moon was off, racing across the rooftops until she reached the top. Then she did a double take. “Tuxedo Kamen!”

“Sailor Moon,” he acknowledged from where he sat, as if it were normal he should be hanging out there, and at that time of night. “Youma?”

“No. I just wanted to relax.”

“By all means.” He indicated the area beside him. She accepted the invitation, leaving a few feet between them.

“I’ve not seen you here before.”

“Do you come here often?”

“I do,” she admitted. “I like to see the view.”

“It is nice,” he admitted.

They fell into silence. Sailor Moon felt hyper-aware of his presence, his slight movements. Her heart rate picked up its tempo, and she felt so warm, even in the cool air, that she wanted to fan herself. She reminded herself sternly that she had just accepted going on a date with another man. But it was Tuxedo Kamen! He was always swoonworthy. But due to her hyper-awareness, she noticed that he seemed to be scanning for something. “What’re you looking for?” she asked curiously.

He started. “Just making sure the people below us are safe,” he said.

How sweet! Even when there wasn’t a youma, he was still caring about people. “You’re a good person,” she said reverently. Here she would use the tower to take breaks, not scope out dangers!

He looked like he wanted to say something, but changed his mind. Silence fell over them again until he spoke.

“So, what did you do today?”

Such a mundane question. “Homework,” she said truthfully, proud to be able to be honest with him. “You?”

“Same.”

“What wonderful lives we lead,” she said sardonically.

“Well, we need normalcy to balance out the ‘Saving the World’ stuff.”

He had a point. “I’m not sure what good school does for me, when I have to be committed to saving the world.”

“We might not be saving the world forever.”

She started. “If that happened, would I ever see you again?”

He tensed. “It depends,” he said carefully.

“Oh.” That hurt. She couldn’t imagine living her life without ever seeing him again. “I hope, when it comes down to it, that we become friends,” she said sincerely.

“Me too,” he said just as sincerely. “You should treat me as an enemy now, but maybe someday we won’t be.”

“I’d like that,” she whispered fervently. “Well, see you at the next battle?”

“Of course.”

She jumped away, feeling flustered. She didn’t get much sleep that night.

I was talking about Sailor Moon's youma with Lan the other day, specifically how they're portrayed in the classic anime, and hit upon something horrific:

Youma are the only monsters of the week that can take human form, and a few of them, most notably Thetis, are shown in human form in the Dark Kingdom/"Negaverse" when you'd think it wouldn't be necessary. We don't see how the existing youma were created (IIRC), but we do witness civilians being brainwashed and given the ability to become youma--the closest parallel in later MotWs are the Lemures, who are all the dreamless animated corpses of Nehelenia's court. The Seven Great Youma were reincarnated as humans (and one cat), the only time that MotW are ever shown to do this.

Ergo, the youma that weren't transformed civilians must be the members of the Earth Kingdom army that survived the assault on the Moon Kingdom.

An additional point of horror: I don't think it's too much of a stretch to assume that a youma's human form is their true one (though at least two were shown to copy other people's forms; chalk it up to Dark Kingdom magic). If everyone who reincarnates in SM looks the same in the past and the present... well, imagine Ryo Urawa's past self cutting down Moon Kingdom soldiers. Or worse, Grandpa Hino's guys fighting against Sailor Mars.

Hang on! That’s a monster from last season! When the Priest got turned into one of the Seven Great Youma!

Okay, so ignoring that this is maybe just lazy work on the animators part, in-world, does this mean that game (and possibly film) makers take the monsters that the Senshi fight and put them in to popular media so that people can then pretend to be their favourite Senshi and fight the monsters themselves?

I mean, there is the Sailor V game, so it’s not pushing the realms of possibility too far...

From the many technical terms used in the series, we will explain the typical words.

Part 1

First, excerpts from the two first arcs "The Spirit World Detective Edition" and "The Dark Tournament Edition".

1. The Spirit World Detective Arc (Reikai Tantei Hen, 霊界探偵編)

【Sarayashiki City】 (皿屋敷市): The town where Yusuke and his friends live. The name derives from the Japanese ghost story "Sarayashiki". In addition, occult names are used for the places and facilities that appear in this work.

【Evil Eye Master】 (Jaganshi, 邪眼師): A person with a third eye called the "evil eye". In addition to remote viewing, the evil eye can also be used to manipulate lower youkai and humans.

【BBC】 (Black Black Club, ブラック·ブラック・クラブ): A dark salon hosted by businessmen who dominate the underworld. They also smuggle all living things. Members include: Sakyo, Gonzo Tarukane, Butajiri and Sukezo Gondahara.

【Hiruiseki】 (Icy Tear Stone, 氷泪石): A jewel transformed from the tears of a youkai called "Ice Woman” (koorime). In the Human World, it is traded for several hundreds of millions of yen. When koorime give birth to a child, the tears they shed become crystals of a different color than the usual.

【The Three Great Treasures of Darkness】 (闇の三大秘宝): King Emma Daiou's favorite collection. They were stored in the Spirit World’s Great Hall of Treasures (Reikai Daihihokan), but were stolen by Gouki, Kurama and Hiei:

● The Mirror of Darnkess (Ankokukyou, 暗黒鏡): A mirror that reflects the desires of those who look into it on the night of the full moon and grants their wishes in exchange for life.

● The Preta Ball (Gakidama, 餓鬼玉): A ball that absorbs the human soul.

● The Sword of Demonic Invocation (Kouma no Ken, 降魔の剣): a demon sword made of poisonous stone. The person who is cut by it is poisoned and becomes a youkai.

【Dark Broker】 (Yami Broker, 闇ブローカー): A group of youkai whose business is to buy and sell youkai. Led by the Toguro Brothers. Sakyo created a scheme in which humans hire youkai as brokers and bodyguards.

【Demon Town】 (Youma Gai, 妖魔街): A town that has developed around the Four Holy Beasts secret base, "The Labyrinth Castle” (Meikyuujou, 迷宮城). It is home to the Spirit World’s criminals who have been sheltered by the Four Holy Beasts.

【Spirit World Detective】 (Reikai Tantei, 霊界探偵): A special agent elected and dispatched by the Spirit World Investigation Department. Their mission is to resolve cases involving "otherworldly people". The first spirit world detective is Kuroko Satou.

【The Seven Tools of the Spirit World Detective】 (霊界探偵七つ道具): Items that aid the work of the spirit world detective. They come in an attaché case which is usually carried by Botan.

● The Youki Meter (Youki-kei, 妖気計): A wristwatch-type item that indicates the direction and distance of the youkai.

● The Concentration Ring (Reigeki-ring, 霊撃･輪具): A ring that amplifies the power of the spirit gun. After its use, it heavily drains the physical strength and spirit power.

● The Psychic Spyglass (Reitou Lens, 霊透眼鏡): A lens that allows you to see through walls and other surfaces to find out what you’ve lost.

【Reihadou】 (霊波動): The flow of spirit energy that covers the human body. By manipulating it at will, it is possible to shoot a mass of spirit energy. It is said that it was originally intended to be used to treat injuries.

2. The Dark Tournament Arc (Ankoku Bujutsukai Hen, 暗黒武術会編)

【Dark Tournament】 (Ankoku Bujutsukai, 暗黒武術): A dark martial arts tournament sponsored by the BBC. Millionaires and powerful people, who act behind the scenes, let five youkai, proud of being the strongest, compete in the tournament. In some cases, humans are invited as guests, but if they refuse to participate, their lives will be targeted. Instead, the winner can fulfill any wish. The venue is The Hanging Neck Island (Kubikuku Shima, 首縊島).

【Teams participating in the Dark Tournament】

● Uraotogi Team (裏御伽): The five names are: Suzuki, Kuromomotaro, Shishiwakamaru, Uraurashima and Makintaro. They claimed to be born from the grudges of unfortunate characters in fairy tales, but other than Suzuki and Shishiwakamaru, the rest of the members were just Phantom Beasts (Genmajuu, 幻魔獣) to be used as sacrifices. Urameshi Team's opponent in the semi-finals.

● Kido Sentai Team (鬼道戦隊): The players Matennou (魔天王) and Kimeiou (奇冥王) belong to the team. They made it to the top eight, but were defeated by the Gorenja Team.

● Gokai Six Team (Gokukai Roku Kyou, 獄界六凶): Players include Kyoppou (狂砲), Nenjai (念蛇) and Kyokudosan (極道山). They made it to the top 8, but were defeated by the Uraotogi Team.

● Gorenja Team (五連邪): A five-member team consisting of Akarenja (red), Aorenja (blue), Momorenja (pink), Kirenja (yellow) and Midorenja (green). They defeated the Kidou Sentai Team with their teamwork, but were annihilated by the Toguro Team in the semifinals.

● Dr. Ichigaki Team (Dr.イチガ): An experimental team led by the mad scientist Dr. Ichigaki, in order to create the most powerful biological weapon. He planted the "blood-manipulating lump" in the human fighters - En, Kai and Ryo - and manipulated them as M-1, M-2 and M-3. M-4 and M-5, two youkai who attacked Kurama and Hiei, are also members of the team. The second round opponent of the Urameshi Team.

● Makai Kyousenshi Team (魔界狂戦士): A 6-member team consisting of Topaz, Dosukoi, Gorira, Babaki, Gagaki and Rugby. Rugby was executed by Topaz before the match and the remaining members were killed in the match by Younger Toguro.

● Mashoutsukai Team (魔性使い): A team formed by the strongest ninja among the Demon World’s ninjas. The names of the 5 participants are: Rishou, Jin, Bakken, Toya and Gama. Ruka, who restrained Hiei and Genkai, is also one of the members. The owner is BBC's Butajiri. They were the opponent of Urameshi Team in the third round.

● Rokuyuukai Team (六遊怪): BBC's Sukezo Gondahara found these youkai in the downtown area of the Human World. The six members are: Chu, Zeru, Roto, Rinku, Imajin and Gaou. Imajin and Gaou were killed by Chu, who was a substitute. The first opponent of the Urameshi Team.

【Blood-manipulating lump】 (Souketsuryuu, 操血瘤): A biological weapon created by Dr. Ichigaki. It sticks to the subject's back, manipulating their blood flow to control their personality.

【Dark item】 (闇アイテム): Magic tools made by Suzuki of the Uraotogi Team. Each item matches the nature of the members:

● Kibi Dango (奇美団子): An exclusive item for Kuromomotaro. When used by Kuromomotaro, whose body remembers the enemy's attack power, it gives his body a defense power that can withstand the damage and more offensive power. He can use up to three kibidango in a single battle and the enhanced states are, respectively, called:

- "Armor of the Demon Monkey” (魔猿の装);

- “Armor of the Demon Pheasant” (魔雉の装);

- "Armor of the Demon Dog” (魔犬の装).

● Reverse Tamatebako (逆玉手箱): Used by Uraurashima. Contrary to the Tamatebako from the folklore, it emits a smoke that rejuvenates everyone except the user.

● Hagoromo of Death (死出の羽衣): Used by Shishiwakamaru. A cloth filled with demon power blocks the space and creates an entrance to another world. Those who enter are transported to a place unknown even to the user.

● Fruit of the Previous Life (前世の実): The pulp of the "Tokitadare Flower" (トキタダレの花) recently discovered in the Demon World. Drinking the extracted liquid will temporarily rejuvenate the body. It is the raw material for the smoke in the "Reverse Tamatebako".

● Trial Sword (試しの剣): The phantasmagorical demon sword that Suzuki gave to Kuwabara. It is made of "leech cedar" (ヒル杉) that grows by absorbing the energy of the wielder and changes its shape depending on the nature of the user's energy. The Banshee Shriek Sword was also a variation of this sword.

● Banshee Shriek Sword (Makokumeizan-ken, 魔哭鳴斬剣): Used by Shishiwakamaru. A dark item that combines a demon flute, which emits the cursed cries of unleashed evil grudges, and a sword that resonates with it. The amplified cries are delivered as a shockwave.

【Spirit Wave Orb】 (Reikou Gyoku, 霊光玉): A sphere of energy that condenses spirit energy to the utmost limit. It has been passed down from generation to generation by the masters of the Reikou Hadouken (霊光波動拳). It has energy comparable to that of a small star. The successor will have their nature questioned by their own mind and body, and if they do not have the calibre to accept the energy, their body will be destroyed.

Part 2

Important words selected from the latter half of the series: "The Black Chapter Edition" and "The 3 Kings Edition".

3. The Black Chapter Arc (Makai no Tobira Hen, 魔界の扉編)

【S-class youkai】 (S級妖怪): In the Spirit World, the strength of the youkai is classified into five levels: S, A, B, C and D. The S-class refers to the rank of youkai that cannot be controlled by the power of the Spirit World. However, since it is a classification established by the Spirit World, there is a wide range of ranks, even within the S-class. Furthermore, even a big wheel as Toguro was only B-class, while Sensui had S-class power although he was human being.

【Energy Gun】 (Kikou-juu, 気硬銃): A gun built into Sensui's right arm. Only Kazuya, one of Sensui's personalities, can used it.

【Sacred Energy Armor】 (Kikoutoi, 気鋼闘衣): An armor that has been materialized by increasing the sacred light energy (seikouki, 聖光気). The principle is the same as that of Youko Kurama's White Devil Clothing (白魔装束), but the level is said to be different. It is also possible to change from a defensive to an offensive armor.

【Black Chapter】 (Kuro no Shou, 黒の章): A top secret video tape stored in the Spirit World. Tens of thousands of hours of the most cruel and atrocious crimes committed by humans have been recorded in this tape. A normal person can change their view of humanity in only five minutes.

【Game Battler】 (ゲームバトラー): A video game in which you fight against the Goblin King, a master of all kinds of games, including sports, fighting, quiz and puzzles. The game begins with battles against the Sports Goblin, Shooting Goblin and so on. Once they are defeated, the game moves on to the boss, the Goblin King. You’ll clear the game if you win four out of seven battles.

【Barrier】 (Kekkai, 結界): The Spirit World has set up a boundary between the Human World and the Demon World. The barrier is there to prevent S-class and A-class youkai from invading the Human World, but B-class and lower class youkai can pass through.

【Dimensional Sword】 (Jigentou, 次元刀): "Ability" expressed in Kuwabara. Unlike the spirit sword he had so far, this one has the power to cut through any space. This is the "ability" that Sensui was looking for in order to destroy the Spirit World’s barrier.

【Territory】 (領域): The effective range covered by a person with "ability". The "territory” is completely controlled by the “ability”, thus depending on the rules, weapons may also be restricted. The size of the "territory" depends on the "ability".

【Sacred Energy】 (Seikouki, 聖光気): The ultimate fighting spirit that even Genkai couldn't obtain. However, Sensui had mastered it in less than 10 years.

【Sensui's personalities】 (仙水の人格): Sensui's personalities were created through his endless struggles. In the series, it’s revealed the existences of:

- The main character Shinobu;

- The logical and talkative Minoru;

- The mad murderer Kazuya;

- The crybaby female personality Naru;

The other three personalities were revealed in the serialized magazine "Weekly Shounen Jump": George, the weapon merchant; Makoto, who is in charge of cooking, washing and cleaning; and Hitoshi, the animal caretaker.

【Ability】 (能力): Special abilities that have been revealed in humans under the influence of the Demon World’s Hole. The power is manifested within the "territory" centered on the person with the ability.

【Makai’s Hole】 (Makai no Ana, 魔界の穴): A hole that connects the Human World and the Demon World, also known as the "Boundary Tunnel" (界境トンネル). Sakyo was trying to open it with the winning prize of the Dark Tournament and Sensui inherited the plan. It is shown in the following four stages based on its impact on the Human World:

- First stage: The miasma in the Human World becomes stronger and the number of lower creatures from the Demon World will increase.

- Second stage: People with special abilities will appear among the humans.

- Third stage: D-class or lower youkai will also come into being in the Human World.

- Final stage: B-class and lower youkai will be able to freely enter and exit the Human World.

【The Great Atavism of the Mazoku】 (Mazoku Daikakusei, 魔族大隔世): This can only be performed by A-class or higher class youkai. By mating with humans, the mazoku gene can be intentionally passed on to their descendants of many generations later. It’s an extreme form of "atavism" in which the genetic information of grandparents is transmitted to grandchildren one generation apart.

【Mafuukan】 (魔封環): A spell that Koenma has been saving to suppress the Dark Period that will arrive hundreds of years later. The technique consists in creating a barrier through the release of the reiki (spirit energy) stored in his pacifier for hundreds of years. It is placed as the strongest defensive spell that exists in the Spirit World. Although it has the power to restrain even S-class youkai, it did not work on Sensui, who uses the sacred energy.

【Mushiyori City】 (轟寄市): A town located within a stone's throw of Sarayashiki City. A hole to the Demon World was opened in the Irima Cave (入魔洞窟), in the suburbs of the city. As a result of the hole’s influence, "people with abilities" appeared one after another.

【Yaminade】 (闇撫): They are one of the few species of youkai to have a "shadow hand" (影ノ手) that can move freely between dimensions and make lower-class youkai from other dimensions their servants.

【Four-dimensional Mansion】 (Yojigen Yashiki, 四次元屋敷): The mansion where Kido and his friends abducted Yusuke. Doors are installed at three places in the corridor and there are seven staircases to the second floor, making it a strange structure. In the original manga, it was said to have been built by an unknown artist.

【Spirit World Special Defense Force】 (霊界特別防衛隊): This is the troop of the Spirit World, feared and known by the youkai under the name of "hunter". Their mission is to patrol the Demon World (area controlled by the Spirit World) and exterminate youkai to expand the controlled area. If a youkai that has grown up in the Human World has A-class or higher power and is judged to be harmful to humans by the Spirit World, it may be eliminated. The captain is Otake.

【The Seven Spirit Detective Tools】 (霊界探偵七つ道具): Two more new items have appeared in this arc:

● Itako Whistle (イタコ笛): A whistle that emits sound waves that cannot be heard by ordinary humans. The higher the spiritual power of the blower is, the wider the sound reaches.

● Mejiru Seal (Mejirushi Ichiru, 目印一る): A sticker that informs through colors the physical condition of the applier. It can only be peeled off by the person who applied it. Contains 100 sheets.

● Youkai Meter (妖気計): It has become even more sophisticated and can detect any youkai. It can also indicate the distance and direction of the person you are looking for by inserting their hair and nails.

【Resshuu-ken】 (裂蹴拳): This is a footwork-based martial art that Sensui (Minoru) has mastered. The upper body is dedicated to defense while destructive leg kicks are used to crush the enemy. It is said to be the strongest martial arts in history, with the requirement of mastering all kinds of martial arts in order to learn it. In addition, Sensui has created his own unique method called "Reikou Resshuuken" (霊光裂蹴拳) which is a mixture of the Reshuu-ken and spiritual power.

4. The 3 Kings Arc (Makai Hen, 魔界編)

【Mobile Fortress Mukade】 (移動要塞・百足): Mukuro’s castle (kyojou, 居城). After the tournament, it was used for patrols to protect humans who wandered in the Demon World.

【Kudakusushi】 (食脱医師): A sorcerer who existed 700 years ago. They ate the carrion of dead humans who died of illness to create immunity in their bodies, and gave their own blood and flesh as medicine to those suffering from the same disease.

【Ice Woman】 (Koorime, 氷女): A clan of youkai who lives in a glacier country covered with thick clouds, avoiding interaction with the lower world. They give birth to a girl alone every hundred years during the division period. However, if they mate with a different race, a boy will be born and they are feared as an "abominable child" (imiko, 忌み子) who would bring misfortune.

【Makai City Gandara】 (魔界都市・癌陀羅): The capital city of Yomi’s country. Like cities in the Human World, skyscrapers are lined up and computer-like equipment is also used for military conferences.

【Organic Device】 (有機装置): It was used by Hokushin, an S-class youkai, to visit the Human World. When it is put on the chest, the youkai's power drops to D-class, allowing them to pass through the barrier that S-class and A-class youkai cannot.

【Demon Power Measuring Machine】 (妖力測定機): A machine that measures demon power and spirit power. It was used by Yomi’s camp to analyze military power. It is also compatible with S-class youkai, but the demon power of Enki’s group, Raizen's old friends, was too high to be measured.

【Rurimaru】 (瑠璃丸): The national jewel of Raizen’s country. Yusuke carved names on it, in an attempt to use it for the tournament draw.

Rewatching episode 28 of the original anime has opened up some fascinating possibilities.

For those who do not know or need a refresher, this ep is part of the Rainbow Crystals storyline from the Dark Kingdom arc, wherein the Senshi, the Dark Kingdom and Tuxedo Mask seek out the Seven Rainbow Crystals that are contained within several humans (and a cat) who’re the reincarnations of the Seven Great Youma, the Dark Kingdom’s most powerful monsters. Zoisite could transform these individuals back into their monstrous selves and extract one of the Rainbow Crystals whilst he was at it.

Each Crystal Carrier had some form of special gift one way or another and that’d usually form the basis for the plot of each episode. In this specific case the crystal carrier was Yumemi Yumeno, a shy artist who makes beloved art pieces and who wants to use Usagi and Mamoru as her latest models.*

And how does this come about?

Well, for starters Usagi and Mamoru happen to see some of her artwork, specifically this piece.

This stirs up odd feelings in both of them, which in hindsight are obviously connected to their past lives as Serenity and Endymion.

Indeed, it’s difficult to argue the image is depicting anyone other than Serenity/Usagi and Endymion/Mamoru. Now, anyone who’s seen this show is well aware that there are an awful lot of coincidences. But considering the artist in question is also reincarnated from the same time period as Serenity and Endymion that makes coincidence a huge stretch.

And it’s stretched further when Yumemi practically pulls Usagi and Mamoru off the street to model for her when she bumps into them. What’re the odds that they happen to be the perfect models for her creativity?

Things get even more interesting when they check out another art piece at Yumemi’s home.

I grant you, the woman in this doesn’t exactly resemble Usagi/Serenity. However, the image stirs up similar feelings in Usagi and Mamoru all the same and the image foreshadows two notable events. First of all, towards the end of this same episode Tuxedo Mask will gift his Star-locket/orgel to Sailor Moon.** And in episode 36 we discover that Serenity gifted this same locket (or one identical to it anyway) to Endymion back in the Silver Millenium, which is exactly the gesture this art piece is depicting.***

Yumemi confirms that she has drawn this same couple in other art pieces (presumably including the top image) and that she somehow always feels sad when she does so. Of course this was referencing Serenity and Endymion’s doomed love in the Silver Millennium.

When Yumemi is transformed back into her monstrous self, a Youma named Veena, she displays powers connected to artwork. Namely she can use the feathers from her angelic wings to ‘draw’ objects in the air and render them reality.

Of course, this is thematically appropriate given Yumemi’s artistic interests, but when taken with everything else it opens up a lot of possibilities for speculation.

Was Veena a Youma with a sincere artistic interest back in the Silver Millennium? Did that, along with her more overtly beautiful appearance compared to the other six Great Youma (or most Youma in general) mean she had a softer side? Perhaps a greater appreciation for love and beauty despite what side she was on?

Did she perhaps carry some level of sympathy for Serenity and Endymion’s situation? It’d make sense she’d know about some of it because her ‘boss’ Beryl desired Endymion and therefore presumably knew he loved Serenity. But she knew about an incredibly private moment between the pair involving the locket. Was she spying on them for Beryl? Or was she being some kind of Youma voyeur?

Or maybe Veena was really a nasty customer, but since Yumemi is clearly a kinder soul her interpretation of Veena’s ‘memories’ regarding Serenity and Endymion is more sympathetic and poetic.

Alternatively, Rei’s grandfather and Ryo Urawa (Ami’s would be lover) were both crystal carriers and they had some level of precognitive and/or spiritual abilities. Perhaps Yumemi simply possess the same in the other direction, as in she could see the past? That’d explain how she knew about the star-locket exchange.

Regardless, Veena/Yumemi might just be the most fascinating of all the Rainbow Crystal hosts!

*This in turn leads the pair to start to like each other a little more, whilst their alter egos as Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask start to grow a little closer too.

**He’d dropped it and she’d picked it up in an earlier episode. In this one she tries to return it but he tells her to keep it.

***And proves pivotal to the resolution of the season finale. Sailor Moon presenting Evil Endymion with the locket is critical to restoring his memories and purging Metalia’s evil influence from him, ultimately saving Sailor Moon’s life and therefore enabling her to defeat Beryl/Metalia.

P.S. The episode also has a cool meta touch because it references the first Sailor Moon Ending, Heart Moving.

The Swordsman of All

SSSS.Dynazenon: Sizumu finds some kids looking at what he dubs a failed Kaiju, Zaiohn it goes away, later spraying paint on a sleeping Gauma. Yomogi and Yume go to Futaba's workplace, but he quit a while ago. Koyomi recalls Inamoto showing him a stash of money she found and suggesting they run off together, he ran away. Recalling his recent dealings with her, he goes to throw a rock at a window when everyone is called by Gauma, wanting the paint spreading Zaiohn found. Yomogi and Yume find it easily, it's quite sad cute, and convince Gauma not to kill it since it's not being used by the Eugenecists, he tries using Instance Domination on it unsuccessfully, the others try as a joke, and Yomogi sees a weird vision. They're spotted by the GridKnight Alliance. Sizumu takes the Eugenecists out. Anosillus and Knight explain Kaiju have sources, which must have been spread around based on their appearance locations, which are fed by human hearts, both silent when Gauma asks how they know so much when they aren't Kaiju, warning to keep an eye on Zaiohn. Mujina excels at bowling, Onija at tennis, Juuga just worries about relaxing instead of finding Kaiju. Gauma looks at the Kaiju while wondering where his princess is. Gauma fell asleep and Zaiohn escaped, Sizumu suggests a movie, Tarabaman, Onija and Mujina are weirdly of one mind about things now. Knight meets Yomogi and helps him look, as Zaiohn, now bigger, keeps going, they talk about if its possible it has a human heart. Knight acknowledges some Kaiju have human hearts, but others will deceive, and hesitating to kill one that then causes real damage isn't okay, if it's a threat, he will kill it. Koyomi and Gauma leap into action to try and lure Zaiohn from the city, panicking crowds separate Yume from Chise. Knight tells Yomogi that at the size it is, Zaiohn needs to stopped, they go into battle. Reacting to GridKnight, DynaSoldier converts into the Dynamic Cannon, which he wields. Yomogi is unsure on killing Zaiohn. When it starts damaging the building, and learning Yume is inside without DynaWing, he tries Instance Domination, having the same reaction and it looks right at him, Yomogi forces himself to use Dynamic Fire. Afterwards Yomogi is unsure of himself. The seed Chise found now resembles a kaiju frame. Sizumu is the only one of the Eugenecists who was even aware of the battle. Yume asks Yomogi to grab food together.

Heroes' Odyssey: Zero talks about the traitor to the Land of Light, Ultraman Belial, and his own battle with Kaiser Belial and Arch Belial, before talking about Tiga battling Geozark, leading to Masaki Keigo stealing the Sparklence and the fragments of the other statues, using it to revive another Ancient Giant of Light as Evil Tiga. Guardie attempts and fails to get through to the heart of the original giant, his friend, and is killed, before Tiga arrives and manages to stop him.

Saber: Yuri explains that Luna singling out Touma marks him as the one who will inherit Wonder Worlds power. Kento believes Touma might be able to change fate, but Kurayami is still showing him the World's destruction, Tassel's bird flies by. Master Logos shows Storious his new book, explaining if it absorbs the other books a new Seiken will be born, allowing him to fulfill his ambitions. Sophia explains her attempt to replace Kuna and disrupt the ritual, apologising for not revealing she's an artificial human, but everyone accepts her. Mei notes Wonder Story is partly blank. Touma needs to save Luna and receive power. Ryoga explains to Reika that the Shindai clan have a duty to protect Master Logos, and if they deem him unworthy of that title, there is only one thing to do. With the golden Calabdolg in hand, Master Logos uses the Omni Force Wonder Ride Book to bring darkness, the Northern Swordsmen rush to face him, he mocks his predecessors for not seizing the infinite power, and humanity, rejecting his duty when Yuri mentions it. Master Logos uses Omni Force to become Kamen Rider Solomon, the Swordsmen use their strongest forms against him. He overpowers them, then create seven books in the air in major cities worldwide. An image appears from each work, Izaak introduces himself, declaring he will rule humanity, he tells the survivor of war amongst humanity will be saved. Ryoga now knows what he and Reika must do, Bacht ponders things. The prophecy about Rekka tells how Touma can receive the power to face this, but all the Swordsmen must be aligned. Ogami and Daishinji seeks Ren, Yuri Kento. Ren reflects on recent events and his Masters advice to always seek strength, hiding with Desast when they come looking, Desast points out he actually does want to fight with them. The Shibdais confront Izaak, who rejects the name Master Logos, and prepare to remove him, all three changemand fight. Rekka reacts, and Touma can tell Durandal and Sabela are fighting Solomon. Kento tells Yuri the book will destroy everything, Yuri can tell he plans to engulf everything, himself included, in shadow. Solomon is able to counter the siblings' techniques, mocking them for continuing their familial duties, when Saber and Blades arrive. Durandal has a moment of stubbornness but is convinced by Touma to fight with them. Yuri knows, as Kento does from his visions, that if Touma receives Wonder World's power he'll become it's Guardian and have to remain there, Kento finds this unacceptable, but Yuri thinks even this can be changed now, he should believe in Touma, then goes to get the others to safety. As Kento wants to join Touma but thinks it's too late, Sophia appears to him.

Zenkaiger: Boccowaus is getting frustrated, Barashitara intends to deal with things before Ijirude finishes his work. Zyuran and Magine run into some kids, but they're only fans of Twokaiser, Zyuran is frustrated by the Goldtsuikar's and the others acceptance of them. Katatsumurui World appears, slowing everything else in an area to a snail's pace. Twokaiser arrives, but is also slowed on entering the area. The others arrive, but Flint from CrocoDaiOh warns them off entering the slow area. At Colourful Flint explains the powers, trying to help them make a plan, insisting it's just to save her brother. Zox is keeping his spirits up, while Magine and Zyuran listen. Barashitara orders Katatsumuri World to eliminate the ones he has captive, but when he attacks it emerges Zox had used the waiting time to prepare attacks in advance. Ijirude is finishing his work, but Stacey wants it now. The others arrive, using Turboranger to speed up the others to normal speed, they get Katatsumuri World, then empower others in the area. While they all change and announce themselves, Twokaiser refuses to be included in the team. When Katatsumuri World tries to slow them again, Zenkaiser and Twokaiser both use Turboranger to counter (Blue Turbo for Zox), and swiftly finish things. Dai Katatsumuri World arrives, ZenkaiOh ZyuraGaon battles first, but the tough shell makes things hard. Ijirude finishes his work and sends out Stacey, who arrives in his Battle Caesar Robo toattack ZenkaiOh. The twins decide to try Flint's new modification to CrocoDaiOh, and so using Katana's Kikai side, Twokaiser brings out Twokai-Oh Katana. Stacaesar uses the new arrival to focus on ZenkaiOh exclusively, Rekka Daizan finishes Dai Katatsumuri World, and Stacaesar leaves so Twokai-Oh doesn't interfere. Zyuran and Magine are frustrated by Zox still.

Saber X Ghost: 3 followers of Danton have captured Kanon, and are using her to try and find Makoto, or "Leon" as they call him. Kanon wonders about in a trance looking for him, spotted by Desast, who smells that she isn't human and grabs her, spotted by Youma and Mei. Saber fights Desast but Kaanon is still in a trance, throwing Desast away after e beats Touma. At Daitenkuu Takeru has the book Ghost Ijinroku, Javel brings Condor Phone over, whoever is on the other end tells him Kanon is missing and he runs off. They briefly run into eachother, each momentarily distracted by the other's main item. Takers encounters the 3 followers, who aim recreate Danton's Ultimate Lifeform. Definitely some novel continuity here, as Takeru specifically refuses to allow them to harm Chloë with their plan. One turns into a Ganma Superior to hold him off. Javel runs into Touma and Mei, both groups essentially looking for the same thing, Kanon and Desast both quickly arrive. Kanon flips out and beats off Desast and runs after Touma becomes Saber, Desast and Saber chasing, Javel aims to help with his own abilities, but he doesn't have them anymore. The fight continues between Saber and Desast over Kanon when Javel and Mei arrive, Javel fails to appeal to Desast's better nature, and Takeru and the Ganma arrive as Kanon wails on Saber, then brutalised Touma only to snap out when he promises to help find her brother. Takeru and Touma properly make introductions, and become Saber and Ghost to fight Desast and the Ganma, who make a quick deal for Kanon. Facing Desast, Ghost uses Musashi, while Saber unable to do anything, until Takeru lends him Ghost Ijinroju, kept at Daitenkuu for generations. The form represents Ghost and the 15 Heroic Spirits, and Ghost switches to Grateful, the two together finish the Ganma, and Desast runs off. After some talk Takeru promises to help find Makoto, and Javel takes Kanon to the temple, but on the way back they're ambushed by the remaining followers, who drag Kanon away.

Dogengers Nice Buddy: Great Z tells Riku he's determined to bring about his justice. Yabai Kamen prepares to run away, but is caught by Shaberryman right before Riku gets home. Riku is given pause by Yabai Kamen's words, reminded of something Yamashiron said to Great Z, then sweet talks Yabai Kamen into staying with them, before getting an alert they need Nectaris and Uzagi. Filming has a giant Uzagi via camera trickery, before Great Z arrives to fight Nectaris and the Karamis. Watching on TV, most of the Dogengers rollout, leaving Fukuokaliber with a despondent Yamashiron. After a couple of attacks from Nectaris, Great Z begins a heroic speech when he has another attack, seeing images of teasing from eyeless children, and the child being teased's anger. Fishing out a pill, he angrily recalls his experiences with the Dogengers thus far, takes his medicine and brutally attacks Nectaris, everyone watching turning from amused to concerned. Getting ahold of himself, he pulls Nectaris up, and summons Great Daizenshin for a finish, Uzagi jumps to Nectaris when filming is disrupted by police cars escorting the remains of the Kitaqmachine and El Brave, Kitaqman, Ohgaman, Rookie and Kitaqman Metal arrive. After indulging Ohgaman's cop drama bit, they try to survive Great Daizenshin's onslaught, Yamashiron is scared watching but Fukuokaliber has him wait and eat, a meal specifically involving Bell Peppers, which Yamashiron digs into. He's reminded of how the 3 of him learnt to cook together, and now feels ready to fight again. The building that makes their base shakes, and emerges from the ground in front of the others, atop a giant yellow robo.

Binah and Bakene (Yumeno Yumemi and Rhett Butler)

Late submission for Day 4 of @smvillainsweek 2023, theme: "Origin / Reincarnation". This is the past life of Yumemi Yumeno and Rhett Butler- two of the Seven Great Youma-, before the Golden Kingdom had fully become the Dark Kingdom and before the invasion of the moon. This piece is directly Inspired by the "Our Super Weapon R" doujinshi / fan manga from 2003, by Senhi Shinban and Kazuyuki Tsukine. It was a completed 3 volume doujinshi (which is SFW, and involves all seven Great Youma (especially Ryo Urawa / Bunbo), as well as Naru, Thetis, the Shitennou, the Makaiju aliens, and other characters). Our Super Weapon R has never been fully translated, but raw Japanese scans can be found on MissDream (as well as volume 2 and volume 3). This year marks the 20th anniversary of this cool doujinshi! Here's their original artwork for comparison:

I'd love to see a full translation of this doujinshi, since I've been trying to read it with Google translate and can only get a rough idea of the story. It seems like a kindred spirit to some of my own ideas, and an inspiration I'd like to be able to reference in my own project! First though, I still want to make more pieces for Villains week. I have ideas for all 7 days but I only have day 6's piece started yet- hopefully I can go back and do my other ideas over the course of October? We'll see.

I’m glad Saban Moon pilot was found since it is a big piece of Sailor Moon Lore.

What the world was that??

Lord That felt so early 90′s that you put She-Ra/ Facts of Life/ Power Rangers together and that’s what you got which I think was the aim. Which is funny since Saban did Power Rangers which is from Super Sentai and Naoko was influenced by Super Sentai..

Like did the girls have civilian names? They only go by Jupiter, Venus, Mercury, and Mars.

Like Sailor Moon is the only girl with a civilian name which is Victoria? I think it’s been said years ago the girls did but I can’t remember.

The diversity is a plus if you want to call it since it was still just one black girl in the group even if you also have a girl with an disability.

I do like the fact they did keep the fact they would princesses tho. Even tho that wasn’t mentioned no where near the anime and was only mentioned in the manga...... mmm

So no destruction of the Moon Kingdom and SliMli. Way to take out one of the major plot points as the reason why we have Sailor Moon..

Beryl looks like a Disney Villain which was probably the aim with really no clear m.o.

Chapter 22

Waking to black hair in the bed with her had been startling until she remembered and realized it was just Rei, her back to her as she slept.

Rising carefully, she managed to remove herself from the bed without waking either black haired guardian within it. Tiptoeing to her dresser, she traded out her PJs for a pair of jeans and a thick sweater. As quietly as possible, she pushed her feet into her boots and pulled on her coat as she left the apartment, all occupants snoring softly inside.

The frozen ground crunched under her soles as she walked, the grass-covered in ice from the morning dew that froze in the cold. Even in the middle of winter and night, the park still looked beautiful, the trees glittering slightly from the frost that covered them. The moon was still up, high in the sky as it slowly made its way down to the other side of the world. It seemed to glitter as well.

Once in the park, it didn't take her long to find him, standing in front of the pond they shared a kiss at in one of their lives. Without a word or hesitation, they wrapped their arms around each other once she neared him. There was no explanation for it, the two of them just knowing to come to this exact spot and knowing the other would be there.

He planted a kiss on her forehead, still holding on to her tight. "I'm sorry I didn't keep my promise to protect you."

"Why didn't you? And why don't I remember any of that?"

He chuckled, "Usako, you were four years old. I'm surprised you remembered your name!"

"But you weren't. If I was four then you were seven. Why didn't you remember and tell me before?"

He stiffened and she felt it all as it rushed through him to her. Her arms around his waist, she pulled him in as tight as she could. "Oh Mamo, I'm so sorry."

Silence fell over them, or at least, they would appear silent to anyone who happened to pass by at such a late hour. The two of them consoling one another with all their might. Him for not being there for her as promised at no fault of his own and her for the loss of his family and memories. She desperately wished she had memories of them for him, to share with him. If only they had gone inside; if she and her mom had gone in just to say 'hi' or let his parents know what he had done….

"Stop, Usako, it's not your fault." She let it go, nodding in understanding. Not wanting to upset him any further. "I wanted to show you something."

Pulling herself from his chest, she found him with a grin and a twinkle in his eyes, reminding her very much of Endymion at that moment. "Really? Haven't you already shown me enough?"

His grin turned to a smirk but said nothing from his link or his mouth. It fell past her face so small and fast, she wasn't sure she really saw it. But then more began to fall, the small white flakes each perfect in their own way.

He released her and she stepped away, watching as the sky turned white. Her hand stuck up in the air, catching a few flakes as if to test if they were real. Then she let them both fly out, catching as many as she could in her palms. She giggled, spinning in the white fluff, it sticking and starting to pile up on the ground already.

Even though she already knew he was, she turned back, finding his eyes on her and her heart raced. "I know what you are doing by the way." He flinched slightly, not sure how he thought he could hide it from her. "But it doesn't matter now, whether I am like Serenity or not."

A smile slowly formed on his face. "And why is that?"

Her heart was beating erratically, barely containing it inside her chest. "You know why."

He made his way to her, the thick snow crunching under his feet and not another sound other than the snow softly hitting the Earth. "I still want to hear you say it."

Her arms across her chest, she did her best to protect herself, even though there was no point. "I don't need to be Serenity because you love me." He nodded, wrapping his arms around her again. "And I love you, Mamoru."

With her heart already pulsing, she actually needed the alarm from her communicator. Mamoru released her just enough for them to look at it together. "Usagi-chan, Youma. Downtown shopping district."

Luna sent the coordinates, even though she didn't need them, already feeling the pull. She pulled the rest of the way free from Mamoru, readying to transform. "What is with these bad guys? Why in the world would they attack that area in the middle of the night?"

"Usako." He grabbed her arm, stopping her from moving or transforming. "This isn't about other people, it's about you."

"What?"

"Think about it. That last attack, they set it up for you. They are targeting you."

A shiver ran through her, a combination of their fears and worries. "Do you think that's why they attacked me in the arcade?"

His head shook, "I don't know. But it didn't feel that way. They must be targeting Sailor Moon and Usagi."

She slumped, looking at the now white ground. "Great… just great."

"I won't let anything happen to you."

"I'm more worried about something happening to you." He tried to pull her back to him, but she twisted free. "We should go. Get there and end this before anything bad happens."

He really should be focusing more on the fight they were racing towards, but all he could do was watch the goddess next to him as they both raced. Leaping from one building to the next, her body arched across the skyline, snow dancing around her. He probably should stop the snow now, it only being an impediment for them in battle. But it made Usagi so happy…

This wasn't going to do, he was far too distracted. Pushing, he cleared his mind of thoughts that weren't helpful at the moment and focused on the throbbing pain in the back of his brain. A reaction to the Earth and the people on it getting wrecked in one way or another.

But none of it prepared him for what they found when they arrived at the scene of the crime. Because it truly was a crime scene. It took him too long to react, grabbing Sailor Moon and pulling her into him to hide her eyes, even though she had already seen it.

Bodies. Everywhere. At least 20 all completely drained of energy.

"Welcome to the party, Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Kamen!"

It was the same voice from before, the one that had taunted them last time. All they could tell for sure was that it was a male voice. Or at least, it sounded male to them as humans. Sailor Moon pulled away from his hold but he kept her close, a hand on the small of her back that was ready to grab and pull or toss if necessary. With their link and his touch on her, he could feel the tension she held in her body. It matched his.

"What have you done, you monsters!"

The heartache and tears Sailor Moon had were felt by him and heard by all in her voice. A high pitched and annoying giggle filled the air, a second creature taking the 'mic'.

"We took what we needed before but this time, for you Sailor Moon, we took it all!"

Rage growled from deep in his belly, the bodies around him that were killed for no reason amplifying his feelings. "How about you show yourselves you freaking cowards?"

"Hmmm… no I don't think we will. Not yet anyway."

He felt like he could spit fire at the both of them, the male in particular who continued to mock them from his hiding spot. But someone else did come out of hiding, a creature that looked like a tree with legs. Brown bark made up the skin of it and branches from the middle and bottom where its legs and arms. Its hair was twigs and leaves, twisting and shaking with every step it took closer to them.

On instinct, he threw Sailor Moon behind him. If the creature was any part of an Earth tree, this would be a short fight. Focusing, he watched as his golden cords fanned out and then wrapped around the monster. But they went no further, unable to penetrate the bark and dig into the Youma and take control. It wasn't from Earth at all.

The monster shrugged off his power, recoiling back to him with a snap and having him step back into Sailor Moon slightly. Then it started to shake, small at first but getting more and more violent until something burst out of its branches on the top of its head. Mixing with the falling snow, dark pink mixed with white, fat petals falling from the sky. Twisting, he wrapped his cape around Sailor Moon, even in her protests and shouts of fear for his safety. She was his priority.

But the petals didn't come near either of them, watching as they floated with a mind of their own only to land on the corpses around them. Attaching themselves to multiple parts and spots on their bodies, he watched in horror as the dead flesh began to twitch, tremor… then stand.

His arms still around her, they took several steps back but were quickly getting surrounded. "Tux…"

"I know, I know."

Pushing her behind him again, he punched a zombie that had gotten too close in the jaw. It hit the ground hard, a sick crunch from its bones, only to get right back up again. Laughter filled the air, his nausea burning his throat or his anger.

"I'm afraid you're going to have to do better than that, Tuxedo Kamen. Unless you want to just give us Sailor Moon?"

"Fuck you!"

Both voices erupted in laughter and his brain began to burn. Spinning on his heel, he found a wide-eyed Sailor Moon, tears brimming and making her blue pools sparkle. "Sailor Moon… they are already dead. Remember that."

Taking his staff, he pulled and unlocked the blade that hid inside it, the metal dull in the dark and early morning. The sharp intake of breath from Sailor Moon was deafening, only making what he had to do that much harder.

"Close your eyes, Usa." He whispered and prayed she obeyed.

But that wouldn't be Usako.

Grabbing it out of his hand, she flung the blade far, only getting a shocked glare shot at her before she ran from him. To make matters worse, the damn things followed her.

"Sailor Moon, cut it out!"

"I can't just let you… cut their heads off!"

He took off after her, kicking and punching as many of the walking dead out of his way as he followed. "They're already dead…"

"It doesn't matter! Think of what it will do to their families? What it will do to you!"

The idea of cutting someone's head off, dead or alive, did make his stomach turn. But it was better than the alternative, them getting Usagi. The nightmares would be nothing compared to the overwhelming pain he would feel if anything happened to her.

For a quick moment, he split from her, grabbing his blade back up and getting to her side. Sailor Moon reached for it to toss it again, but this time he was ready pulling back from her grasp to keep it in his hold. Now their backs were literally against the wall, the high brick wall that surrounded the parking lot they were in was behind them while zombies rounded on the two of them.

"Where the hell is everyone else?!"

Sailor Moon shivered from his tone and he pulled her closer to him, wrapping an arm around her waist.

"It will be okay. I promise I won't let anything happen to you."

"It's not me I'm worried about."

Her voice was shaking, the fear she had for him snaking through their connection. He couldn't stand it, her being so scared, all for him. The ground was quaking under them, his emotions taking control. But for once, he was thankful for it, the ground splitting open before them to create a deep barrier between them and the dead.

Just as they started to breathe easier, the dead began dropping into the hole. One after the other and Sailor Moon shrieked after them. It seemed pointless until they began to pile up. They were all reaching out for them, for Sailor Moon. It was enough to have his stomach turning again.

Not a moment too soon, fire filled the hole and he had to grab Sailor Moon again, covering her eyes. But nothing saved them from the smell. "Someone, kill the goddamn Yoma already!"

Now, ash-covered and charred arms reached for them, a few still on fire as they crawled out of the hole. Sailor Moon was sobbing while he was trying not to vomit. It would have been better if he had just cut their heads off after all.

"So much suffering for just one person…"

The bodies all went limp, the air shifting before them until a man stood before them. Well, not really a man, but he looked like one in a way. "You…"

"Oh? Have we met?"

Shit. This creature had attacked Mamoru not Tuxedo Kamen. He had almost fucked up royally.

"You are the cause of this? Ugly piece of shit like you?"

The creature fell for it, grimacing back at him. There had been two at the arcade the other day…

He felt it too late but still managed to throw Sailor Moon away and across the hole from them. The pink-haired bitch nearly sunk her claws into his blonde and he had to grab hold of her wrists to keep them from sinking into him.

"Tuxedo Kamen!"

"Just go!"

Sailor Moon was still on the ground, staring wide-eyed at the two of them. "Just go, Usako. I'll catch up!"

Their link was truly a blessing and a curse, her not believing him in the slightest and not moving from her spot on the ground save to get to her knees. Pain shot through his shoulder, having been distracted he now had long, pink knives sticking out of it. They appeared to be the monster's nails.

A roar erupted from his throat, now tossing the bitch at her lover who did not catch her correctly, both of them going down. Leaping across the void, he scooped up Sailor Moon and made for the others with her; Mars, Jed, Venus, and Kun going toe to toe with the tree creature. They weren't far and yet, no matter how hard he ran, it was as if they were going nowhere. It was then that Kun looked up at the two of them, his face going pale that he knew something was really wrong.

"Run all you want. Wear yourself out, it will make sucking you dry easier."

Setting Sailor Moon to her feet, he threw a rose, only to have it soar on endlessly as if time and space didn't exist. Or gravity, it hanging in the air as if it had none. "What did you do?!"

The girl shimmered before them, cackling. "Oh, not much. Just put you in a sort of...space vacuum. You're in what we like to call a time bubble, it doesn't really exist in here. And there is no exit."

"What do you want?"

He shoved Sailor Moon behind him but her words still made it out, the answer he knew he didn't want to hear. The male appeared next to his mate, looking Sailor Moon over like dinner. "Your energy was so… effective. And we are in need. So I'm going to have to ask you to give it to us. All of it."

"Will you let him go?"

Twisting, he growled back at her, but Sailor Moon didn't even flinch. "Sure. If you surrender to us!"

The smirk on the female's face told him it was all bull shit. They were going to drain Usagi dry and then him and whomever else they wanted. "Don't fall for it, Sailor Moon. They will never let either of us go."

"Tux…"

She was clawing at his back, pulling hard on his cape. He turned to her as much as he could without taking his eyes off the pair. "Sailor Moon, if you think for one second I'm going to just let you go then you are…."

She screamed, grabbing him and pushing him hard. He had been an idiot, taking his attention from them for a second to look Usagi in her eyes in hopes of bringing his words home. Instead, they had taken advantage and fucking up whatever he had hoped to tell her. His face hit the dirt but he didn't feel it, Usagi's screams making him numb all over in the worst way.

The male had her in his hold tight, pressing her against him, front to front that had him seething all the more. The female tried to stand between him and the two, putting on some sick pout on her face. There was no more control over himself at this point. Because they were touching Usagi, his Usako. So now they had to die.

His skin popped with electricity, it arching out and striking the female. She went sailing but he didn't watch to see where she landed. The male looked, watching the body of his lover go flying. But he held onto Sailor Moon still, now using her like a shield, the fucking coward.

"Let. Her. Go."

The creature shivered for a moment, but then smirked, twisting Sailor Moon around so that she was now facing him. "No. I don't think I will. Because you will never hurt her even if I do."

Sailor Moon whimpered, her arms locked in the creature's hold. She was being foolish, not wanting to strike the guy because he was similar to a human. But he wasn't human and he had killed several innocent people. She needed to snap out of it and take the fucker out!

It happened in slow motion, feeling so helpless as the creature held the woman he loved captive as a shield… and then leaned over to run his tongue over her neck and jaw.

His bones cracked from the pressure, his power surging but having nowhere to go. The creature had pissed him off so much, he wasn't sure he could contain himself and keep from hurting Usagi as well. The look on Sailor Moon's face was one of shock, having turned away from the assault to her skin. But it didn't last, her turning slowly to look at the beast as much as possible.

It was smirking, looking like he might do more to her. But then the monster started to shake, starting in his shoulders and chest and then all the way down to his toes. He could see it, the beautiful coils of Usagi's silver energy as it wrapped and twisted around her capture. The monster only felt the pain, soon losing his hold on Sailor Moon as the agony he had to feel took control of his limbs. Suddenly, his limbs snapped back, going up into the air and bending at an unnatural angle.

"ALI!"

The heart-wrenching scream woke up Sailor Moon, unfortunately, releasing the prick that had just held her for ransom. And she was still too close.

Time slowed again, him reaching for her while the female reached for her simultaneously. Her claws were out, planning on ripping Sailor Moon's heart out and he begged her through their link to move. But she was in shock, drained too, the energy she expended making her slow even though it wasn't much.

The night was just too much for her mind, making her sluggish. He wasn't slow though, grabbing her with just enough time to spin her out of the way and block the blow. Pain shot through his spine this time, the 'nails' digging in and going deep. It felt as if they touched his heart, it tripping over itself. But then he realized, it was the draining of his energy that caused the sensation, it getting siphoned off quickly.

Bright white light filled his vision, the nails getting ripped from him just before he hit the ground. "Mamo!"

She was whispering harshly in his ear, tears streaming down her face. He wiped them away with his gloved hand. "Shhh… it's okay. I'm fine."

He didn't feel fine, his accelerated healing not as quick as he needed it to be as he bled out. And shit, their link was a curse again, her hearing every thought in his weakened state. "Let me take a look…"

"No, Usa. Just get out of here. I'll be fine, I can take them myself."

"You can't even stand!"

She was right, half on the ground (and half in her lap) Usagi was holding him as he laid limp. It was as if his spine was broken.

Oh...it was.

Severed by the creature's claws. But his neck worked, looking around for the threat only to find them limping away. The two of them held onto one another, neither in good enough condition to help themselves let alone one another. They shimmered away so he looked for the other creature, catching it as it turned to dust thanks to a large blast of fire from Mars. Usagi was safe, he could rest now…

"Don't you dare close your eyes, Mamoru. I will NEVER forgive you if you die on me again!"

"I'm just going to… rest for a minute…"

"Mamoru?...Mamoru!...MAMORU!"
