Last Fall Hueman painted the facade of 5 buildings in a small alleyway named Hickory off Van Ness in the San Francisco Civic Center. __ She says while it was not her largest mural it was the most challenging. The mural is her attempt to portray what music looks like - and the ability to hear/taste or feel color. While the baton is associated more with orchestras, it is the floating invisible hand for all musicians playing in unison. Laguna Honda Mural Completed! “This hilltop was the site of San Francisco's first charitable institution, an almshouse, which opened in the Gold Rush. After the 1906 earthquake, it became the Relief House, dedicated in 1909 by President Roosevelt.  Today, the Laguna Honda Hospital and Rehabilitation Center specializes in long-term and hospice care.” @PrecitaEyes founder Susan Cervantes, designers and lead painters Elaine Chu @lileli82 and Yuka Ezoe @bahamakangaroo “held brainstorming workshops with the hospital community and the neighborhood associations of Midtown Terrace, Forest Hill and West Twin Peaks to translate ideas into images and initial sketches. “Viento de Cambio, From Ashes We Rise” . Collaborative piece with @lileli82 from the amazing @twinwallsmuralcompany At the Parklet of @madroneartbar , Thank you spike and everyone for the opportunity. . . Our mural theme is about healing and cleansing our city now that everything is opening up again and coming back to life. Starting from the far left is a Bolivian Yatiri (community shaman) performing a healing ceremony. The smoke flows through the mural changing colors as it moves. The heart is a representation of the people of the city. The rat represents the resilience of the city. The aguayo (traditional cloth) is used to carry infant children by their mothers in the Andean culture. From the far right a cosmic dahlia mandala symbolizes creativity, change and strength. We have all been through a lot during the last year but have survived and are looking forward towards change and new life. The woman next to the Dahlia is our good friend and fellow muralist Marina Perez- Wong who is battling stage 4 breast cancer and her resilience and strength is inspiring to so many. Our intention for the mural is to heal her as well. She is also depicted as an Earth Mother figure with a pachamama symbol inside the flower in her hair.
