Missed Classic: Spellbreaker – The Chase
Written by Joe Pranevich
You’ve heard the classic story: boy meets girl, girl meets boy, boy and girl happen to be levitating rocks on a Tron-esque grid? It’s classic. If I have to say one thing about Spellbreaker, it is not afraid to have interesting and difficult puzzles. And despite the number of times that I have been stuck in this game, I’ve nearly always managed to get myself unstuck by looking at the problem in a different way. As we approach the end of the game, the overall picture is coming into focus. Connections are forming between the areas that the cubes take us, but I wish I did not have to spend the first half of the game feeling like I was playing a text-adventure version of Quantum Leap. Oh boy…
One other thing: this game is long. I’m ending this post at just over 18 hours in, making it the longest Infocom game by far and that does not include any of my time replaying from scratch last entry. The only longer game in this marathon is mainframe Zork which clocked in at roughly double where I am now. No actual Infocom release has taken me more than twelve hours to win. If they had planned to make this the “grand finale” of Zork, I think they succeeded under that metric at least.
Let’s play!
Wow. That looks complicated.
Two Dead Ends
We ended last week having just solved the octagon maze and with a new cube in-hand. I blorple it to end up in “No Place”. It is a lot like a place, except the room description says that we’re not in a place and my brain has no idea how to process not being any place, except somehow there are also exits east, west, and south, presumably to places. The mind boggles, but I head east first. That me to a vault filled to the brim with treasure. Could it possibly be the vault we discovered at the end of Zork III? The only exit from the vault is a locked door with a complicated mechanism although it’s strange that it is locked from the inside. I cannot seem to interact with it in any way. Is there a puzzle here or just a locked door? Rezrov is not powerful enough to open it.
I start to sift through the room for things I might want, but anything I pick up is listed as “treasure” in my inventory without distinction. I can teleport out with no problem, but doing so transforms the “treasure” into “junk”. I either need the treasure and therefore need to exit through the vault door to keep it as-is, or perhaps all the treasure really is an illusion… maybe even the door? I’m not sure where the we are going with this one, but there doesn’t appear to be anything for me to do here right now.
Restoring back to “No Place”, I discover that west is the typical broken exit that we have with each of the cubes while south leads me to a very strange plain.
The 1980s were truly a special time.
Imagine, if you will, a plane with intersecting lines moving in all directions. There are hovering boulders sliding on the lines from place to place. I cannot follow the lines or go any direction at all because the ground is too slippery for walking. Even magic seems to be broken here as spells just fizzle out. I can’t cheat by using the magic carpet either. A green-eyed boulder is nearby and I can talk to her, which is somewhat surprising because she’s a rock. She tells me that I’m not as odd as the last person that visited her. Could that be the assailant from the beginning of the game? I point out a brown-eyed rock in the distance and she says simply that he’s not as pretty as she is. This increases the total number of vain green-eyed talking boulders in adventure games to… one. The good news is that the she’s willing to give me a ride in exchange for some food. All she wants is something high in phosphorus.
Unfortunately, I don’t have any and cannot proceed this way. With repeated attempts, I am unable to find anything different in any of the areas that I already explored. There’s no way through vault door, nor is there anything else I can do on the plain. I am stuck.
A Whole New (Boring) World
I expect that this game is very difficult to follow in written-out chunks every week or so. I’m taking very good notes which I need to be able to sit down and write against later and I’m still having difficulty keeping the whole game in my head. I am especially confused about places where I experimented and then gave up. Did I do that in my current save? Did I not? I don’t remember.
I have a note from last time that I’m not satisfied that I did the correct things with the carpet, either in the way that I bought it with the opal or in what to do with it afterwards. So I head back there and play around. It turns out that you can haggle with the vendor and talk him down to 500 zorkmids. This involves “offering” him different amounts starting from high to low and if you get it just right he’ll agree to 500 after a few tries. In my case, I found that if I started with 300 and increased my offer by 50 each time, he eventually comes down that amount and I can pay using my coin, saving the opal for a puzzle later. I feel better about this solution overall.
What should I do with the carpet? I know that if we fly up from the bazaar, we discover that we’re in the mountains that have the roc’s nest and the guard’s tower. I didn’t map it before, only explored it more or less at random. I’ll take a more structured approach this time. Unlike typical exploration, we have altitude to contend with. I find four separate levels to explore: “above”, “high above”, “very high above”, and “dizzyingly high above” the ground. Any further up than that and it is always the same text, while any lower than that and we crash or land but either way results in death. You can keep going higher and you never seem to die of asphyxiation, but maybe I just wasn’t patient enough. For my part, I concentrate on “above” since we need to be able to see things below us to land on them. I do head up and explore a bit higher, but unless there is a castle in the sky or similar, it is all empty air. I can come back if I get stuck again.
When Aladdin sang his song, he expected more interesting terrain.
There are an infinite number of empty rooms stretching in all directions. Just as before, I locate the bird’s nest and confirm that the guard’s tower just four rooms east. I do not find any way back to the bazaar, the mountain at the beginning of the game, the ocean, or anywhere else. Even so, this is everything I need for a new idea:
I am going to race the roc.
Whenever I come up from the bazaar, the roc is already at its nest. But when I teleport to the oubliette and climb my way up on the ice floe to the guard’s tower, the roc is circling and not at its nest. What if I climb out then immediately jump on the carpet and head west? I try that and it works! I beat the roc home and find the nest unsupervised for the first time in the game. Unfortunately, I arrive just as the egg is hatching and if I stay for more than a couple of turns, the hatchling kills me. I memorize my spells in advance so I just land, grab the cube and the carpet, then “blurple” myself away. I am not going to be a snack today!
Portrait of Belboz from Zork: Grand Inquisitor
Third Dead End
Using the Roc’s cube takes me to the “String Room” with exits to the south and east. Naturally, only one of the exits work but the other takes me to the “Enchanter’s Retreat” where the retired Belboz and other former leaders are retired to a life of quiet meditation. Why aren’t they helping since everyone else is a frog? I guess they figure I have it covered. Belboz, my mentor from the first two games, is there and we can ask him a bit about what is going on. He tells me that someone had visited him a few days prior, impersonating me, but that he knew it wasn’t me because he did not know things that I would have known. So he asks me a question: “Of the Neuromancers, who is the best known?”
Of course, I have no idea, but I do have the manual and the several trading cards that came with the game.
Oysters and fish are not vegetables.
I answer “Berknip” from the cards and he seems relieved that it is me. He hands me an iron key. I ask him about the cubes and he makes them sound impressive, as if the knowledge of them can make or unmake the world, but nothing else I ask seems helpful. I try the key in the vault and that is not the correct place to use it. I’ll have to keep looking.
I am stuck again except this time I do not even have notes that I missed something along the way. I explore more with the carpet. The solution turns out to be going through my spells to see which ones I haven’t used yet. I’ve created frozen icebergs, shrunk giant snakes, put a statue to sleep, repaired a hut, grew out some ragweed, animated a statue, and blew away fog. The only two spells that I haven’t found uses for yet are “yomin” to read minds (although that did provide some hints) and “snavig” to transform into an animal. I try to find things to transform into.
A Fishy Solution
It doesn’t take me that long to find an animal that I can transform into: a fish. If I use the “water” cube and take a splash landing into the ocean, you end up where I fought with a grouper to capture a message in a bottle. That grouper is still there if you return. After hiding my stuff in the zipper, I try “snavig” and am able to become the fish. Swimming down, I discover a cube at the bottom of the ocean. Unfortunately, the fish still eats my cube and I lose all of my stuff because everything sinks. I have to find an alternate approach.
Instead of stashing my stuff in the zipper, I drop everything I am carrying in the Water Room itself. I memorize “snavig” and “blorple” so I can get back, but I take the dive into the ocean unencumbered. That still doesn’t quite do it because the fish will steal the water cube if I am not careful. I can transform and eat it myself, but there doesn’t seem to be a way to regurgitate it back out. I eventually settle for also taking the smoked fish with me and feeding it to the grouper as soon as I see him and before I transform. He ignores the now-sinking cube and apparently is not above a little fishy cannibalism. Survival of the fittest, right?
Casting “snavig” takes a few tries and I restore several times to get a casting that works on the first try, but I manage to swim down to his nest. Unfortunately, I cannot pick up the cube while in fish form and I previously learned that eating it was a bad idea. Eventually, I take the wait-and-see approach. I stay underwater until I transform back into a human, immediately grab both cubes, and swim to the surface. I make it just before I run out of air and now I have a new cube! I’m making this sound a bit easier than it was; getting the timing right took trial and error.
“Don’t try it, Anakin! I have the high ground!”
Hot Lava!
The new cube takes me to the “Light Room” with one good exit, to a volcano. Immediately after I arrive, a fragment of lava falls at my feet. It is too hot to touch, but I can freeze it to pick it up. There doesn’t seem to be anything else to do here so I take the rock back to the strange bounders that I found at the beginning of this section.
Feeding a rock to the boulder is exactly what I needed to do. The green-eyed boulder now allows me to ride her and I can follow the tracks on the plain. Each time I do, the distant brown-eyed rock (which I now see has a cube on its back!) also moves. It’s a bit of a dance, made more difficult because I can’t quite seem to find a way to speed up the green-eyed rock or catch all the way up to the brown-eyed one. He seems to be avoiding us. I try randomly for a long time, but I do not stumble on the solution. Time to get analytical! I ignore my brown-eyed friend and map out our environment:
It’s a document icon!
What I find is a collection of 15 rooms, with north/south or east/west tracks between each room with one exception, a diagonal line in the upper-left corner. I thought initially that going over the same track too many times would rub it away, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. Although we can make some good guesses, the text doesn’t quite let us know precisely where the brown-eyed rock is at first, only whether it is near or far and in what general direction. Once we have the map drawn and printed out, I put counters down to track where I am and where I think the brown-eyed rock is.
I continue to play with this puzzle, but it’s not deterministic. If you save and restore, the rock can choose to move a different way after the restore. But no matter how hard I try, the rock is very effective at always staying a few squares away and there is really no way to trap it. The best you can do is figure out its exact location using the process of elimination.I look for ways that we can block off exits by dropping things onto the track, but that doesn’t work. I try to get close enough that maybe I can jump across even if it isn’t in the same square as me, but even when I get it on a diagonal I still cannot leap across.
Just to give you an idea how to work out where it is, from the start I tried these directions:
I go south and the brown-eyed rock goes north
I go west, it goes south
I go east, it goes south again
I go north, it goes south again
At this point, I am 100% certain that it is in square D4 and I am back in B2. But what good does that do me? Not much except getting us into known spots which allows me to know his exact location for the rest of the puzzle. The trick is obviously something to do with the northwest corner. I thought at first there might be a hidden room, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. I try very hard with dozens of restores to force him to go on the diagonal so that I can catch him, but that doesn’t work. If I go on the diagonal, I still cannot catch up to the brown-eyed rock because I can never get there when it is anywhere close enough for it to matter. He seems too “smart” for me, even when I save-scum.
In the end, I take a hint from the blog and find that I am on the right path. By heading over the diagonal, I’m essentially taking two moves instead of one and this subtly changes the dynamic between the two stones. It doesn’t solve anything immediately and if the brown-eyed rock doesn’t make a mistake, it doesn’t matter one iota. But… I do that and he eventually moves towards me when he shouldn’t. I guess my strange movement disrupted his algorithm. With that, the gap is closed and I am able to successfully maneuver to bump into him in a few turns. As soon as we get close, he is mesmerized by the green-eyed rock’s beauty and I can just jump across and grab the cube. I guess she wasn’t just vain after all.
With that, I will end our session for this week. We had some great puzzles this time and I am ashamed that I needed to ask for help on the rocks when I probably would have noticed the brown-eyed rock doesn’t play perfectly after the diagonal slide. My desperate hope is that I can wrap this very long game up next post. I’m having fun, but it’s still time to put this one to bed.

Roleplay Server Log #325
"Giant Garden, Fresh Candy Seed”
[Doc] Is walking with Sweet Alex and Yaunfen. They're carrying a small potted plant and looking for Hg's house. [Currently passing through Lie's yard]
[Lie] Is in her greenhouse picking some vanilla-
[Yaunfen] Sneaks over and squeaks behind Lie-
[Sweet Alex] Giggles-
[Lie] Jumps a little- Oh!  Hey Yaunfen!
[Yaunfen] Hi Lie! We're going visiting, you wanna come?
[Lie] - Where you going?
[Doc] We were going to vist Hg. Do you want to walk with us?
[Lie] - Sure- She picks the last couple of pods and steps out
[Doc] I smell vanilla.
[Yaunfen] Smells good!
[Sweet Alex] Hello Lie.
[Lie] - Yeah, it was time to harvest again, hey Sweet Alex
[Doc] Is walking along with the others following. - So hows the Quagga?
[Lie] - Doing well, nervous little thing though.  I don't think it will be rideable
[Yaunfen] Is it still small?
[Lie] - For now
[Sweet Alex] I heard it was adorable.
[Lie] - You can look at it when we come back, he's behind the sheep pen
[Doc] Glances over at the bathhouse and Francis and Baconn are stealing a kiss behind it-
[Sweet Alex] Absolutely!
[Lie] Notes where Doc is looking- Yeah, I still need to build a barracks for them...
[Doc] Little laugh- So how are Blake and the unhelpful blazes?
[Sweet Alex] That sounds like a band name!
[Lie] - Blake is starting to chase CP again...
[Doc] He must really want dat ass.
[Yaunfen] snickers-
[Lie] - It's very annoying
[Doc] Do I need to hook him up with someone too?
[Sweet Alex] How is Cn's tutoring going?
[Lie] - I don't think that will help  And CN's been doing well, Firebirds been able to teach him a lot
[Sweet Alex] I heard about Eliza.
[Doc] Grins- She seemed happy with my match-making at least.
[Lie] - And yet another thing for CP to grumble about, he's holding off on giving the generals their human forms until Eliza actually decides if she wants Chester to be her mate or not
[Sweet Alex] What's your opinion on it? Doc said he seemed like a funny little thing.
[Doc] Adorably embarassed...
[Lie] - Oh he absolutely is, and smitten
[Yaunfen] Prancing happliy - Love is awesome.
[Doc] Truly.
[Sweet Alex] So hows 'big fire?'
[Lie] - Grumpy, as usual
[Doc] He wouldn't be Cp without the grump. At least he has less to worry about now.
[Lie] - Very much so
[HG] -is siting on one of the jack o' lanterns along the path to his house-
[Yaunfen] Trots over - Hg! I'm an adult now. - looks super proud
[Doc] Yes you are. Hello Hg.
[HG] -jumps a little because he did not see them- oh hey what brings you guys out here?
[Doc] We hadn't visited in a while and I have something new to share too. - holds up the plant, it's covered with lavender flowers and emiting a calming floral scent.
[HG] can I water it? it is very pretty.
[Lie] Can see HG's plants in the distance-
[Doc] Yes, that's why I brought it. It could use a boost. I brought it in a long time ago and I think it wasn't getting enough light.
[HG] -waters the plant. from where the are they can see a giant pumpkin-
[Yaunfen] Wow! That's a huge pumpkin!
[Sweet Alex] My goodness... is it a wool sculpture HG?
[Doc] Is holding the plant and nearly loses hir balance as it tries to explode out of the pot and the fragrance triples in strength.
[Lie] - Mmm, lavender
[HG] what the pumpkin no it's just a really big full pumpkin I have been watering it a lot I have a few giant version of a few other plants I have
[Doc] Can you show us your... experiments? If you don't mind.
[HG] I don't mind come -starts walking back to his house-
[Yaunfen] Follows daintily -
[Doc] It's weird you being the big one kiddo...
[Yaunfen] Hehe.
[HG] -as soon as they make it to the bridge the all the giant plants can be seen there isn't just the pumkin but giant versions of water melon, wheat, carrots, potatoes, cactus, and along the one of the part of the river giant sugar cane.-
[Lie] - Whoa...
[HG] this happens sometimes when I don't pick the stuff for a while it causes them to mix with other next to it which haven't been picked either making them bigger
[Sweet Alex] Does this change your intent any Doc?
[Doc] Is dumbstruck - Maybe?
[Yaunfen] It's like we shrank!
[Lie] - This is a little over the top...
[HG] It not to bad you just need to hit one of the block and the whole thing will pop into how man blocks it was
[Lie] - That's still a lot of food...
[HG] that's why I offer food to anyone who wants it I give a lot to ohana
[Yaunfen] Is bouncing around - You could live in this pumpkin! It's so cool!
[Sweet Alex] Anytime you want to trade you can come visit me Hg.
[HG] I could if I wouldn't turn into a bunch of pumpkins the moment I tried to make a door. thank you I will.
[Yaunfen] But the face is a hole! - Xe sticks hir snout in one of the eye holes and giggles-
[Lie] - Maybe your Mada can make you a playhouse made of wool
-inside the pumpkin is a lot of pumpkin seed and guts-
[Yaunfen] I think I like my seeds pumpkins better. They're chocolatey.
[Doc] They're incredibly messy too. Hehe.
[HG] with what I do messy is normal for me
[Doc] I might have one if you want to try and grow them- fiddles around in hir inventory.
[HG] giant messy chocolate pumpkins sounds like what they will become after awhile
[Lie] - I'll be sure to stay away from them
[HG] -points to the islands with bridges running across them in the sky- I most likely will build it a new island I have been building them so I don't take up huge amounts of space
[Yaunfen] That would be delicious!
[Lie] - You really have put a lot of work into this
[Sweet Alex] Those are some lovely looking trees Hg.
[Doc] Here, I have two of them- Hands over the chocolate pumpkins and one accidently places in the grass. It's made of hard chocolate and the top is open and oozing an eggy looking sugar cream like a cadbury egg- You can just swat it up normally.
[HG] I try my best to take care of all these plants since I love working with them. thank you sweet alex -takes the one doc handed him and collect the one that got placed-
[Lie] - Just don't over work yourself, if you need help all you have to do is ask
[HG] thank you but I tend to not over work but if I need help I will ask though -some flitters land in HG's hair-
[Sweet Alex] I would love to help. And Doc had a question for you...
[Doc] Coughs - Because Sweet Alex has some strange effects when she hugs people, I was wondering what would happen if she hugged one of your trees...
[HG] go right ahead you can pick which kind of tree you want to try hugging
[Doc] We were thinking it was more likely to have an effect on one you've really been babying Hg.
[HG] in that case there is one I have been watering a lot and it grew really big for the kind of tree it is -he points a very large dark oak tree near the back of the garden on the hill it is near a bench that is just on barely on the other side of the hill-
[Sweet Alex] Do you mind if I....?
[HG] no go right ahead it got a lot of water because it's right next to the bench I like to rest at
[Doc] Work your magick.
[Yaunfen] Alex is gonna do magick?! - watches
[Sweet Alex] Goes over to the tree and puts her hands on it, communing a bit and smiling.
[Lie] Finds a spot to sit-
[HG] -watches the tree-
[Sweet Alex] Give the tree a huge hug and there's a very organic groaning noise as the trunk itself expands suddenly and it sprouts a ton more leaves, almost like she squeezed them out of it. When she lets go there's a distinct Alex-shaped divot where she hugged it and the wood swelled outwards around her silhouette.
[Yaunfen] NEAT!!!
[Lie] - Ooookay...
[HG] you made it even bigger and it grew around you that's super cool.
[Sweet Alex] Pats the trunk- It's a really nice tree.
[Doc] And now a really unique tree too...
[HG] well that tree is going no where but will keep growing here
[Lie] Pulls out an apple to eat-
[Yaunfen] Suddenly interested.
[Doc] Wrong kind of apple. You want one kiddo?
[Yaunfen] Yes please!
[Doc] Takes out a candied apple and they nom it gently out of hir hand- I should really... hmmmm... Since we already have several consoles.... Is Cp done with that seed he's been training Stevie on yet? I have an idea. Anybody else want a candied apple? I have several of them.
[Lie] - You'd have to ask him, and I'm fine with this one
[HG] could I have one doc?
[Doc] Sure! Xe passes it over to him by the stick so it doesn't get his fingers sticky.
[Sweet Alex] I'm not hungry, but they are pretty apples.
[HG] -tries it- it's sweeter then a normal apple
[Doc] Yeah, it's got a really sugary glaze. That's why it's shiny.
[HG] it's very good
[Doc] Lie I need to ask Cp something, but Hg, I think you might be interested in the result either way. Do you want to walk back to Lie's house with us? You can always crash with me if it gets too late.
[HG] sure i'll come
[Lie] Stands up- Let's go then
[Doc] Come on, I'll give you a ride, it'll be faster.
[Yaunfen] But mada...
[Doc] Shifts and gives them a little smootch on the forehead. - Just shift into your small shape and you can ride too.
[Yaunfen] Okay!
[Doc] Hunkers a little.
[Lie] Climbs onto Doc-
[HG] -climbs on as well-
[Sweet Alex] Hops up and reaches back to help Yaunfen-
[Doc] Waits for them to be settled and zooms off just over the ground-
[CP] Is up in his pouting tree working on the coding-
[Doc] Skids to a stop in the yard and Yaunfen scrambles partway up hir neck to hug hir. Their humanoid form is more adultlike and they're still a bit awkward with it.
[Sweet Alex] Notices Cp - Hello up there!
[CP] Flips them off-
[Sweet Alex] Not nice!
[Doc] Come on Cp, why so grouchy? It's a lovely day.
[CP] - Fuck off I'm busy
[Lie] - Oh CP...
[HG] -is watching what is happening-
[Doc] I just have a question, are you done with the seed you were training Stevie on?
[CP] - For now
[Doc] Mind if I use it?
[CP] - Sure, whatever
[Doc] Great! Thanks! You can resume whatever you were doing, we'll fuck off now. - Starts heading for the cage and motions for them to follow
[Lie] Follows them-
[HG] -follows doc-
[Doc] Shifts but indicates that Yaunfen should stay small. They head down into the cage and file up to the bank of consoles- We're getting quite a collection aren't we?
[HG] that's a lot
[Lie] - Yeah, we should probablt label them eventually...  CP said that Liz and some of the others accidentally entered the one he and Stevie were on while trying to get into TLOT's
[Doc] Well I can take care of that easily. - They pull some signs out of the creative and give them simple names except the practice one.  Doc peeks in quickly to make extra sure they're labeled correctly and parks hir command block next to the practice seed before throwing down a redstone wire and typing furiously-
[Yaunfen] What are you doing mada?
[Doc] Making something fun!
[Lie] - Watches curiously, wondering what Doc's going to do now-
-The offensive pod above shifts around to get a better read on everyone in the cage-
[HG] -doesn't understand the red stone so decided to just check how full his water pails are and since they are both almost empty starts to fill them up-
[Doc] There's, it's downloading.... -
-There's a little ping-
[Doc] Done! Lie? would you like to take a look? I think the cold may be more palatable now, if it hasn't been entirely eliminated.
[Lie] - Uh, sure- She creates an opening and looks through
-The icy landscape has been entirely transformed, the remaining trees are 'leaved' with minty green ice cream and the caky forest floor is covered with drifts of white icing.
[Doc] How does it look?
[Lie] - Like Yaunfen's never going to want to leave
[Doc] Now I can harvest foodstuffs for them without going off server. I know it makes Deerheart worry.
[Yaunfen] Not leave? How come? - They peek in as well and crow with delight, shifting to their dragon shape and jumping out into the sugary landscape.
[Doc] Come on Hg, Alex, lets have a look-
[Lie] Steps through and looks at everything-
[HG] -goes though and sees the plants and is now trying to decide which plant to see first looking back and forth really fast-
[Yaunfen] Chomps a big bite out of a tree. It's obviously chocolate and gives with a giant crunch.
[Doc] it's a bit cutesy but I love this texture pack
[Lie] She's considering picking some lollipops-
[Doc] Well, both of you are free to pick or water whatever you want. I'm grabbing cake blocks. - grins and starts swatting up what would normally be dirt blocks, but are now crumbly cake with white icing that breaks away into 'snow' balls of powdered sugar.
[Lie] - I shouldn't take too much, I have barely any room in my trunks
[HG] -start picking plants to plant them later-
[Yaunfen] Hey mada? I found colored glass?
[Doc] Walks over- Let me see. - Xe gives them a sniff. -it's not glass, it's some kinda frozen stuff that smells fruity? Lie, you're my irl expert, can you look at this?
[Lie] - Sure- She sniffs it and pokes it a bit- Hmmm
[Doc] Gives it a swat- OW! I think I need a tool for this one...
[HG] -runs pass them really fast only stopping at plants-
[Lie] - But which tool?
[Doc] A pick would probably do.
[Yaunfen] Scrabbles claws on one block and the smell is a bit stronger.
[Doc] I know better then to put my tongue on a big block of ice but that does smell interesting.
[Lie] - I think I vaguely remember something like this
[Doc] I'll just make a quick pick axe, what's on your mind lie?
[Lie] - Well, it was a summer treat that went by several different names.  Basically flavored ice in a plastic tube
[Doc] How odd. - Xe brandishes the new pick. It's handle has blue on blue stripes like a paper soda straw and the pick part looks like an iced pink cookie in a crescent shape.
[Yaunfen] Leans over casually with an open mouth to take a bite of the tool.
[Doc] Laughs- noooo you can have it when I'm done.
[Yaunfen] Tiniest of pouts-
[Lie] Laughs a little-
[Doc] taps up the ice block and the first one gives a bright red snow cone.
[Yaunfen] What is it?
[Lie] - A snow cone?
[Doc] pokes it- it's a type of ice right? - Xe taps some more blocks away, going deeper- they get a blue cone and an orange one, but Xe stops suddenly as a lower layer one breaks away to reveal a gummy fish- I guess some of them have drops that were stuff frozen into them?
[Lie] - Well Stevie did freeze a lake...
[Doc] Keeps picking away as Yuanfen snags a snow cone.
[HG] -tries to run over the rest of the ice to look at more plants and ends up slipping in the most cartoon way possible with his legs up and hitting his back he is fine but his is now laying on the ice-
[Yaunfen] Reaches over to grab Hg's  shirt and set him upright before spitting a little - you're dirty! Shame!
[Doc] Well he is a gardener...
[HG] -HG seems a little bit sad at how yaunfen had call him dirty- I do work a lot in the dirt
[Lie] - It's alright HG, xe didn't mean anything bad by it.  Xe is still pretty young
[HG] -it helps him feel better- I got some saplings from the trees
[Lie] - Good, I know we have a few at spawn, but we could always use more
[Doc] Sorry Hg, it's just not fun to grab something in your mouth that's grubby. I should know for all the times I've had to grab BEN...
[Lie] Small snicker-
[Yaunfen] I still like you Hg.
[HG] -offers yaunfen one of the saplings to get the taste of dirt out of there mouth-
[Yaunfen] Noms it happily- nk you
[Doc] Taps out another block and scrambles a little to grab the drop- oh thats neat! - Xe holds it up a bit triumphantly. It's a massive curved fang.
[Lie] - Odd...
[HG] your welcome yaunfen and what is that?
[Doc] It doesn't look fresh... It's super heavy, like stone...
[Lie] - Like the fossils in the lab?
[Doc] you know... I left some bread in the fridge in the bunker accidentally and when we came back later it was hard as a rock, that's what this reminds me of.
[Lie] - I think this might be a bit different
[Doc] I wonder what I'd get if I put this in that anal-lizer?
[HG] -is trying to see if he can get any of this worlds dirt blocks because it would be better for the plants he is getting from here-
[Lie] - Analyzer Doc, analyzer
[Doc] That's what I said?
[Yaunfen] What are you doing Hg?
[Lie] Just sighs-
[HG] I figure the plants I get from here would like this kind of dirt more so I am trying to collect so dirt from this world
[Yaunfen] it's not dirt! It's cake! But I can help. - They dig at the ground with their front paws and the cake blocks pop around everywhere.
[Lie] - Maybe we should consider heading back?
[Doc] Is admiring the tooth- okay.
[HG] -collects the cake- thank you for helping but it seems to be this worlds equivalent to dirt so I figured the island I make for this plants would like it better
[Lie] Creates a new opening-
[Yaunfen] Yep! Mada can we come back and play soon?
[Doc] Sure!  - they pass the tool to Yuanfen, who takes a bite of it. - this seed can just be open for anyone who wants to harvest stuff. It's set for no structures and no Testificates.
[Lie] Steps through back into the cage-
[HG] -goes though the opening to the cage-
[Doc] Me and Yaunfen are headed home, I'll let you guys know if I come up with anything interesting. I still need to make some glasses for Mixs NOTCH Prince.
[Lie] - Alright, see you around Doc
[HG] bye doc
[CP] Is checking on his generals and is floating through all of Eliza's webs to reach her-
[Chester] Sees him first and skitters as fast as he can to Eliza- There's a guy- huff huff - floating!- huff huff wheeze - Bright eyes!
[Eliza] - Oh, the Master is here?- She heads towards where CP is
[Chester] Catches his breath and runs after her-
[Eliza] - Master, hello
[CP] - Eliza, I just wanted to go over a last few things with you over the other forms, in case there was something you did want altered
[Chester] Is going too fast and bumps into one of her back legs - sorry! - He skitters up under her and peers up at Cp from between her front legs-
[CP] Raises a brow at Chester- Eliza?
[Eliza] - My apologies master, this is Chester, the Doctor brought him here
[CP] - Oh joy
[Chester] Uh... Chester at your service... sir! Ready and willing to serve you master!
[CP] - So long as you obey my orders or my wife's, then I doubt we'll have any trouble
[Chester] Okay! - He snugs against one of Eliza's legs for comfort, he's a more then a little scared.
[Eliza] - Don't worry Chester, the Matter actually is nice
[CP] - Eliza...
[Eliza] - Oh hush, I remember how concerned you were over your mate before you even knew you wanted her
[Chester] O-okay. I can be helpful sir. I'm not much good at sewing, but I can clean!
[CP] - Why would sewing... Oh, Eliza's ability. I assure you, it isn't necessary that you know that
[Chester] I think I'd be good at babysitting too. I like kids.
[CP] - There's a long line of babysitters here
[Eliza] - Not enough if they were to be mine
[CP] - Your considering another mate?
[Eliza] - Perhaps
[Chester] Oh... well... wait... -hopeful- really?!
[Eliza] Small smile-
[CP] - Then make your decision quickly, I'll hold off on applying the other forms until there is one for your mate as well, if you decide on one quickly
[Chester] Practically vibrating with hope, it's making a tiny noise almost like a purr-
[CP] - By the way Eliza, have you figured out what the rest of your spiders want?
[Eliza] - Most of them sir
[CP] - Good
[CP] - I need to go check on the other generals
[Eliza] - Yes sir, I will check in with you later

the only thing I wanna touch
It’s my dearest @feylen ‘s birthday!!! <3 All the confetti and cakes and hugs for you <3 <3
Adria Trevelyan x Cullen Rutherford (succuwolfAu)
„Cullen?”
He stopped in his tracks. „Hm?“
„Stop pacing.“Alistair put his book at the table and rubbed the bridge of his nose. Something seemed off with his friend, but Cullen couldn’t figure out what exactly. His whole posture spoke of tension, fingers thrumming against the armrest.
Lately, he’d been so occupied with the thoughts of a first date with Adria that maybe he didn’t pay close enough attention to his friend? Shame rose in his throat and colored his cheeks and his tongue seemed to thick to form coherent words. „I ...“
„Yes, you do. Stop it. You’re ruining the carpet.“
And it was a pretty expensive carpet and one Alistair apparently liked. „Sorry.“
He got up then, came to stand at Cullen’s side, hand barely touching his arm. „Are you nervous?“
„Yes.“Cullen couldn’t remember the last time, he’d felt this way. His palms sweaty, thoughts a constant chaos, and he’d changed his clothing three times already, because he wasn’t able to decide on what to wear. Not really satisfied with his looks and appearance, he’d finally settled on a white shirt, some jeans and boots. Combined with a leather jacket and maybe he looked a bit like some 60s greaser, but it fit his broad frame and the occasion. Adria and he were going out on a picnic, after all.
Alistair shrugged. „Why? You, eh, know how she looks naked? You’ve shared a lot more than words and time.“
He’d a point, no denying that, but how to tell him that maybe, just maybe, this was the start of something more? All those years spent in loneliness, even with Alistair at his side, he’d never felt something akin to this.
„But we haven’t been on a date yet and shit, what happens, if everything goes wrong?“He’d been smitten with her looks and confidence, her voice, the dry wit, and the way she made him feel alive. A rare thing for a werewolf, who’d seen so much darkness already. Just talking to each other seemed like such a strange concept for a werewolf and a succubus.
Cullen tried to remember, if he’d ever been good at dates. No. He hadn’t. „You really like her then?“Alistair wouldn’t meet his eyes and sadness lingered in the way of his words and posture. His thoughts were with her. The woman, who died and came back and died again and again. The pain of losing her and finding her being reborn, but of out his touch, sat etched into the lines of Alistair’s face.
„I do.“A lot. He wanted, no, needed this to be alright.
„Good luck, mate. It’s going to be great.“
Cullen clasped Alistair’s shoulder. A silent promise to reunite the vampire and his long lost love, one day. To make the both of them happy and whole again.
--
Riding his bike lifted his spirits. The machine between his legs spoke of freedom and the constant thrumming of its engine calmed his frayed nerves. Twenty minutes later, and he found himself in front of their meeting place. He took off his helmet and looked at his watch. Still some time left. Cullen ruffled his hair, trying desperately to flatten it down. A wild mess of blond curls won the fight against gel. Damnation. He stopped, as he saw Adria approach, though. She wore a simple, yet elegant, summer dress, with a cardigan covering her shoulders and a skirt to her knees. And she smiled at him and the world just stopped. With her black hair and blue eyes, she looked like some forgotten goddess. They had yet to talk about their pasts, but it wouldn’t surprise him to find an ancient cult devoted to her ancestors.
“Adria. You look stunning.” The sun brought a translucent sheen to her skin. Cullen hoped that he didn’t seem to smitten by her mere sight. He was and she could sense it on him, as he could smell it on her.
Adria came to stand in front of his bike, clearly impressed by the sight. “Thank you. You’re quite dashing yourself.” “Ah.” Cullen smiled and offered her his spare helmet. “You can put this on.”
It seemed a bit weird. Creatures of the dark going on a date in the bright sunlight. No human would be able to tell that something was off with them. Hopefully. Today, they were acting like a normal couple.
Cullen took the basket, which she’d carried, and fastened it on the back of the bike.
Adria watched him, still smiling. “Well, then we’re good to go?” “Yes. Please hold tight.”
She did. Pressed her slender body against his back, head between his shoulders, and arms around his waist. Cullen fought against the heat rising in his neck and cheeks. They’d already shared some nights together and the memories came flooding back with her being so close. He needed to concentrate on the road, eyes straight forward, and not distracted by her smell and warmth.
Cullen chose a place outside of the city. He didn’t want to be watched or disturbed on their first date and their surroundings changed. Trees and wide plans of grass, less houses and people. He loved the scent of untouched nature and how it made him long for simpler times.
Their final destination lay close to a river, smelling of flowers and summer. Rocks surrounded the riverbed and even the sky looked bluer from this hiding place. Clear water sparkling in the sun and almost a bit too cheesy with the large oaks and silence. He parked the bike close by and helped Adria dismount. Not that she needed a guiding hand, but he craved her touch.
She stretched her limbs and Cullen found the motion rather stunning. Her voice brought him back to reality. “It’s beautiful. How did you find it?” “Long story about a full moon and me getting a bit weird in the head.” His first full moons had been hell and his mind in pieces in the mornings. A vampire helped him cope and Alistair hopefully wouldn’t mind sharing this place with another person. “Oh. You have to tell me one day.” “I will, but first...” Cullen spread a blanket on the grass and opened the basket. Adria had brought small delicacies, sandwiches, cupcakes, fruits, while Cullen had opted for the drinks. Everything smelled fantastic and his mouth watered at the sight. As a werewolf his hunger overtook his rationality often enough and no one should ever invite him back to that steakhouse on 5th street. That poor waitress.
Cullen opened a bottle of wine and poured the content into cups. Delicate glasses just weren’t made for outings like this. He handed one to Adria and found her eyes on his face. “To be honest? I feel a bit weird.” She breathed a sigh of relief. “Me too. Has been a while since I was on date.”
“Same.” Cullen rubbed his neck. “Don’t know, if I’m doing it right.” She took a sip of the wine. “You are.”
“Glad to hear it. Want a refill?” Not that the cup was already empty, but he needed to do something with his hands. Adria seemed to notice his discomfort. “Yes.”
“It’s good.” It was. He found the bottles in their own cellar. Having a home for once offered many comforts. Like a bed, or expensive wine stashed in dusty shelves. Cullen scanned the delicate writing on the bottle and the date, which put it into the highest grossing drinks of all times. “And like a hundred years old. Immortality pays off. At least, for Alistair. At times.”
Adria nodded. “Until you start to forget what humanity feels like.”
“True. Sometimes I catch myself doing weird things? I’m glad that most humans are too occupied with themselves to actually notice something off with their casual otherworldly neighbors.” He wasn’t that old. Especially for werewolf standards or compared to his best friend, but Cullen caught himself sniffing the meat in the supermarket or growling at huge dogs. He also grew tired of the occasional dog jokes, always about leaving fur in the bathtub and trying to mark his room with… well, pee.
“Yes. They’d probably start to hunt us or put us into zoos.” Some of the smarter ones already hunted them down like prey, as if everyone of them was about eating people and being evil. Humanity couldn’t claim innocence either. Not with their wars and their hatred. Bad eggs existed in every branch of beings. Just thinking about being caged, made him antsy. “Gruesome thought.”
Adria shook her head, lost in thought for a moment. Cullen coulnd’t imagine what life must have been for someone like her. A succubi wasn’t even welcome in most circles of the supernatural beings. Their reputation tainted by centuries of mistrust.
Her sadness vanished, though, and Cullen furrowed his brow at her question. “So, tell me about your last date?”
His last date. Cullen wasn’t great at meeting new people in general and dating for that matter and hadn’t been that interested in it either. Until he’d met Adria. She already started to change him, even with asking about former flings. Alistair still teased him about the weekend with that red-haired woman. “There isn’t really much to talk about. She was a werewolf and we just didn’t click. Had some rather embarrassing hours out camping.”
“You took your date camping?” Adria looked shocked by the mere thought. “Yes.”
“Cullen, just … no.” Adria started to laughed and he joined. Afterward, he’d finally understood that maybe camping wasn’t the best idea for a date. Especially, if it’s the first one and you two don’t know each other that well and you’re in the middle of nowhere and have forgotten the cards. Some werewolves weren’t as fond of nature as he was and having to cuddle to share warmth wasn’t as romantic as books wanted you to believe.
“Lets just forget about it. I promise that I won’t take you out camping.”
“I’m relieved. But you’re allowed to drive me around on your bike a bit more.” Adria pointed into the direction of it and Cullen felt a bit like a bit proud.
“You like it?” She nodded. “A lot. It’s very strong but a bit old-fashioned? It fits.”
“Never looked at it that way.” He and his bike matched? “Didn’t think so.”
Cullen shook off his leather jacket, because the sun was starting to get annoying. They had to be close to midday now.  Adria followed his example and put her cardigan on the edge of the blanket. Her shoulders were bare and a distraction and Cullen decided trying not too look too closely at them. He remembered his teeth on her skin, the bruising on her collarbone and the way she moved above him, beneath him. Adria hid her smile behind a strawberry. She could easily sense his thoughts drifting towards more delicate matters.
Talking to her wasn’t as hard as he’d thought, here and there filled with silences and shy smiles, but he didn’t stumble over his own tongue and thoughts. There was an aura of tranquility around her, making himself feel at peace, quietening the impulses of a beast.
They finished the food in silence, simply enjoying being near each other and far from prying eyes, who’d judge them for such a liaison. Cullen and Alistair enjoyed mingling with their kind in a rather limited fashion. From time to time it felt necessary, but more often than not they stuck to the same circle of people or with each others company.
He got to his knees. “Close your eyes, Adria.”
She raised a brow, but did as she was told. With her arms on her legs, she almost looked innocent.
Cullen kissed her. Just a mere touch of lips and took a step back to offer her a single daisy.
He bowed. “For you, my lady.”
“The most gracious gift, my shining knight.” Adria leaned closer and Cullen found her fingers intertwined with his. He tucked the flower behind her left ear, thumb brushing her cheek in the process.
She started to laugh and her eyes were bright and warm.
And Cullen was in love.

C’est La Vie
Paris, the city of love. With the Eiffel tower standing tall above everything else. A symbol of France that every country knows. Sitting on the Champs De Mars it looks over the city in a soft glow of yellow and orange lights that glittered all the way down the tower. It was the city where impossible things happened, the city that everyone wanted to visit because of it magic. Skylar wanted to see it ever since she was young. The lights at night casted blues and purples across the streets while the Eiffel Tower seemed like a beacon of hope and peace. The moment she stepped foot in the wondrous city she never wanted to leave. It was everything she imagined and more. The small cafes that decorated the landscape took her breath away. The smells and sounds enchanted her. But what really made it the best place ever was being there with Himaya. The way the oranges and yellow fell softly on her fuchsia hair was a color combination made in heaven. Her amber eyes reflected the stunning colors of the city and it took all Skylar’s willpower to not stare at them forever.
Skylar couldn’t believe that all of this was even real, being in Paris eating crepes with her girlfriend and everything just being okay. It wasn’t long ago when she thought her life was in shambles and everything was just crumbling down around her. If someone had told her that this was going to happen two years ago she would have laughed at them while her depression grew bigger deep inside her. It was really a dream come true. Everything was going to well that the 3 weeks that they were staying seemed to go by in the blink of an eye. Before she knew it they were packing to head home. She was kind of disappointed since she had loved it here, but she did miss the warm, familiar feel of her own bed. As she began sorting through her shirts, folding them into perfect squares she heard a crash from the kitchen. Completely forgetting the clothes on the floor she jumped to her feet and ran toward the kitchen. She caught herself before she ran in when she saw the pieces of a broken mug on the floor. Looking up she watched as the realization became apparent on Himaya’s face.
“Oh, Skylar don’t come in here. You don’t have any shoes o-” Her sentence was cut short by a yawn. Skylar smiled. Himaya was not the best morning person and it always took her about an hour to be fully awake on a normal day. Today though they had to get up earlier than normal and Himaya was basically sleeping on her feet, the fact that she was swaying just by standing was event of that. She probably meant to hold the cup, or at least pick it and was too out of it to realize her didn’t have a very good grip on it.
“Don’t move babe. You don’t have any shoes on either and you’re too out of it to navigate all this broken ceramic.“ Skylar said as she looked around there hotel room, trying to find her sandals she had haphazardly thrown across the room last night because she was to tired to much of anything else. Spotting them in the corner she quickly retrieved them, pulling them on. Walking across the floor of the kitchen, hearing the crunching the cup under her feet she made her way over to Himaya, who looked like she was struggling to keep her eyes open. Maybe waking up at 5 a.m wasn’t the best idea in hindsight.
Over the summer Skylar had a surprise growth spurt making her only and inch or so shorter than Himaya. This made picking her up much easier. She leaned down and swept Himaya up into her arms, on arm under legs and the other around her back. Any other time Himaya would have made a fuss, she hates being picked up, but right now she was seemed about to fall asleep with her head on Skylar’s shoulder. Next time Skylar will just do the packing since having a half awake Himaya just seems to be dangerous. Walking over to the queen sized bed, she laid the dark skinned woman on top of the covers since they had already made the bed. She was out like a light and Skylar sighed. So much for working together to cut the packing time in half. Making her way back to the various clothes scattered in disarray across the floor she sighed again. This was going to take forever.                                                    __________
A few hours later, Skylar was in the kitchen making breakfast. She had cleaned up all the broken pieces of the mug but still wore her shoes since she had gotten fully dressed a while ago. Track pants and crop top tank  that said “C’est la vie” across it was what she had chosen for the day for obvious reasons. As she was finishing up making her omelette, Himaya stumbled into the room. The shirt she was wearing was much too big for her and fell off her shoulders. It amused Skylar because Himaya normally wears clothes that make her look more mature. It’s only early in the morning or at night when they are alone that she indulges in her secret love for bagging clothing.
“Morning babe. How are you feeling this morning?” Setting her breakfast on the table she motioned for Himaya to sit down. Sitting like a heavyweight, Himaya yawned, stretching her arms and popping her joints.
“I feel like I slept for a thousand years.” Skylar laughed.
“Well that may be true. You never did fully wake up earlier this morning and you were out cold in a second after you broke your mug.” The look of confusion washed over the older woman’s face,
“It’s alright, I cleaned up all the pieces and neither of us got hurt so it’s all good.” Skylar said and she waved off any worry. Relief flooded Himaya’s face and Skylar thought it was silly the way she worried so much for the pale skinned girl, yet it was also endearing so she let it slide.
After their breakfast they finished the packing that remained, which wasn’t much. Since they had some time before their flight home they decided to visit the shops for some last minute souvenirs. It was surprisingly hot for September so Skylar bought some hair ties and put her hair up in a messy bun. She was thankful that she had a glass eye now instead of bandages that just stick to your skin and collect sweat. It was odd to be able to touch her right side of her face and feel soft skin instead of scratchy bandages but she was getting used to it. The streets were busy with bustling people hurrying to where ever they need to be at. It was nice to just take in the scenery and watch the world go by while you can just take it all in.
As the end of the day drew near the two girls headed back to their hotel room and grabbed their luggage. The taxi ride to the airport was short, but relaxing. The airport was even busier than it was when they first got here and it was overwhelming. All the noise and people made Skylar wanted to run back the hotel, she was never good in crowds. The people didn’t really scare her, it was more the notion that she could easily get lost or separated with the people she was with.
She linked arms with Himaya so she wouldn’t lose her and they made their way to the terminal. The names of the flights blinked crimson on the blackboard. Skylar scanned the board for their flight. When she found it she saw the word “DELAYED” stamped in bright red letters next to the flight name. Great, nothing like spending hours waiting for a flight. Skylar really wished she was home in her bed now. She turned to Himaya.
“What time is it?”
“7:30” Himaya replied checking her watch. Skylar sighed as she looked back to the board. It said it would be a 4 hour wait. She was not looking forward to waiting 4 hours for a flight.
“Do you wanna grab a bite to eat?” Skylar barely was able to finish her sentence before Himaya was dragging her back out of the airport. If there was one thing she learned while being Himaya is that she is an unstoppable force when it came to food. There were a lot of restaurants near the airport which made finding something to eat quite easy. They settled on going to a little cafe down the street. The menu had so many things on it Skylar could barely keep track of it all. She decided on a ham and cheese sandwich with a glass of lemonade. Himaya ordered a 4 egg white sandwich with fruit and a coffee. The amount of food the woman could eat was amazing.
After getting there food and Himaya complaining about how small the dish looked to her they decided to wander around for a bit since they still had at least 2 hours left. The summer air started to cool which was a wonderful contrast to the unbearable heat before. The sun was setting and it casted everything in warm colors that made Skylar smile. Laying on a grassy hill in a park they found she looked up at the sky watching the clouds roll lazily by. The sounds of children playing could be heard and a warm breezes blew through the trees, sending the first of autumn leaves down. She turned on her side to Himaya who had her eyes closed and a small smile on her face. Seeing her look so serene Skylar realized it shouldn’t be possible to be in love as deeply as she is. It was amazing to love someone so much and for them to return that love. She thanked not for the first time for the mysterious force that looked down on her and gave her someone as wonderful as Himaya. As if feeling eyes on her, Himaya opened her eyes to look back at Skylar.
“What are you looking at?” She asked while smiling. She had perfectly straight teeth and ruby red lips. Skylar would love this woman until the day she dies.
“Just you. I was thinking how lucky I was to have someone as wonderful as you.” She said while scooting closer to her and resting her head on the older woman’s shoulder.
“Ya know flattery will get you nowhere. Expect with me, I can stand to hear more about how wonderful I am.” Skylar batted at her side while the dark woman laughed.
“You are impossible. One compliment and suddenly you think you are all high and mighty.” She said, but she was laughing as well. She loved it when she was able to make Himaya laugh, it was something she strived for every day. Her laugh was contagious and best sound that she has ever heard.
                                            __________________
By the time they made it back to the airport it was almost 9:15. Even though it was still relatively early all Skylar wanted to do was sleep in her bed. As they walked through the giant doors of the airport it was much less crowded than it was before much to Skylar’s relief. Just a handful of people were making their way across the room on their way to a gate or a restaurant that was built into the airport. Skylar realized they could have just eaten at the airport but with all the people there before she didn’t even know it was there. Getting to the terminal was much easier this time and they both watched the board for their flight to come up. When it finally did the word “CANCELED” was stamped next to the flight and honestly Skylar was too tired to get angry although that did not stop Himaya from running up the desk woman and demanding the reason behind the cancellation of the flight. Again if Skylar wasn’t so tired she would have felt sorry of the woman who looked terrified under the constant barrage of Himaya’s wrath.
It took a good amount of time and a lot of promises of her favorite foods and a movie night to finally get Himaya to leave the airport. Hailing a taxi and finding a hotel to stay at took much longer than Skylar thought was necessary and by the time they finally made it to their room of the fourth hotel they tried to stay at she just collapsed onto the bed.
“Ugh, wake me up when the world ends.” She said her voice muffled by the pillows on the bed. She could hear the sound of Himaya moving around behind her and she turned her head to breathe and to watch what the other woman was doing. Said other woman was opening all the suitcases and digging through them. Skylar sat up so fast she thought she might have given herself whiplash.
“Himaya why are you throwing the clothes all around, I spent hours packing all that stuff.” She whined as her girlfriend made  a ‘aha’ sound and pulled out their case of DVDs.
“You promised a movie night tonight babe.” She said as she went about picking out movie and popping them into the machine. Skylar through her head back onto the pillows, she was so tired and honestly the promise was just to get Himaya to leave the poor woman alone. She had hope she would have forgotten about it by the time they had gotten to the hotel but she guessed she was wrong. Himaya had found the kitchen and started to make to snacks for the movies. Getting up Skylar got changed into her sleep clothes and gave it to the fact that they would be watching a movie. She grabbed the comforter off the bed and sat down on the floor with it wrapped around her. She wasn’t sure what movie Himaya had picked, but she could always ask her when she came back. The blanket was warm and she found herself dozing off. The sound of the movie starting scared her awake though. Apparently whoever was using this room before them had forgotten to turn down the volume on the T.V. and it was so loud it hurt Skylar’s ears. Himaya was quick to bring the volume down though and the sudden change in volume left Skylar’s ears ringing.
“What a way to start a movie.” Himaya said while looking at Skylar’s confused and disgruntled face. The way she looked was so similar to a cat that had just been scared by a sneeze made Himaya laugh. Skylar glaring at her just made it funnier and she ended laughing so hard she was wheezing and wiping tears from her eyes. Skylar just pouted, she didn’t think it was that funny.
“I-I-m s-sorry!” Himaya said through the fits of laughter, “It’s just the look on your face was priceless.” Finally calming down Himaya nudged Skylar who was still pouting. “Come on. I know you can’t stay mad at me forever.” Skylar refused to let up and she opened her mouth to tell off the older woman when Himaya leaned in to kiss her, forcing her tongue into her open mouth and the shock was the only thing keeping Skylar from kissing back. By the time she came to her senses Himaya’s lips were gone and she was staring at her with a smile.
“Fine, I forgive you.” Skylar said after some reluctance.
“I knew you would.” Himaya hummed and they finally settled down to watch the movie. Skylar wasn’t sure what was happening on the screen because halfway through the film she began to fall asleep again. The warmth of the blanket and leaning against Himaya was too much for her and before long she was fast asleep.
                                                                   ____________
The blinding sun was what eventually woke Skylar. She really regretted not closing the blinds the night before. Begrudgingly getting up, she had to untangle herself from her girlfriend who was still fast asleep, she must have carried her back to the bed after she fell asleep. The comforter and the other woman sleeping on top of her was making uncomfortably hot. She hoped their flight was on schedule today and they didn’t have to wait any longer. Making her way to the bathroom she stripped down to take a shower. The cool water felt so good on her overly hot skin. She just enjoyed it for awhile.
About half an hour later she was back to repacking the bags while her girlfriend continued to sleep. Sometimes the dark skinned woman was useless. Shaking her head she stood up and walked over to the sleeping figure and grabbed her by the shoulders to shake her awake. The sudden actions cause amber eyes snapped open in surprise and Skylar had to suppress a laugh at the reaction.
“Time to wake up babe.” She said while finishing up the last of the packing. Behind she could hear Himaya grumbling about being woken up so early even though it was almost 10 am. She went into the kitchen and made herself some coffee while she waited for her girlfriend to get dressed. She looked at her watch and checked the scheduled time for the flight. They had enough time to make to the airport if they left in the next five minutes.
“Come on, Himaya! We need to leave soon.” The only response she got was grumbling and huffing as she walked back into the front room. Skylar just shook her head in amusement as she watched her girlfriend pull on her shoes.
“Let’s go. We don’t want to miss the flight.” Linking her arms with Himaya she grabbed the luggage and dragged her out the hotel room. When they got down to the ground floor they hailed a taxi and made the short trip to the airport. Running through the crowd of people was not an easy task, but they made it to the terminal before they woman started calling for passengers. Getting into line they handed the woman their tickets and climbed aboard the plane. Their luggage was relatively small compared to everyone else to it fit in the compartments above them with ease. Flopping down in the seat next to Himaya and near the window Skylar stared out of it and said a silent farewell to the beautiful city of Love. It was gonna be a long flight and she leaned against Himaya in realization of that. She closed her eyes when she felt the plane go down the runway and lift off. It might be a long flight but she had Himaya with her so it made it worth the while.
