just some unhinged rambling about Cutthroat’s VAs

Starting with his English. I don’t haaaateee it, but something abt it rubs me the wrong way. Like the acting is really good, it’s just the voice direction that’s awful. Hard to describe exactly, but he’s like, whiny? There’s a lot of weird inflections and tremors in the acting, esp in episode 9. It’s like Matt was told ‘‘you’re playing a crazy insane serial killer, do the stereotypical psycho voice’’. I once heard someone describe it as ‘‘too horny’‘ and yep, I think that sums up my issue with it. Like there was no balance here, too much ‘‘serial killer’’ voice and not enough ‘‘normal dude who’s kinda childish’‘ voice. There aren’t really any specific line changes I have any issue with (although ‘‘yum ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ’‘  instead of ‘‘ah, blood’‘ when he licks Swindler definitely caught me so off guard) 

4/10 not bad but it doesn’t feel good

Then his German voice, this one has the opposite problem than the English. It’s a little too normal and lackluster. A sort of deeper voice that removes the childish element and makes him feel more his age. He does a better job at matching the tone of the Japanese though. It feels like he’s not really trying very hard until ep 9, that’s where he goes all out on the acting. Like if he needs to yell/scream, he puts his whole heart into it and I appreciate that. There are a few line changes that I really appreciate, and probably a lot more that I’m completely missing due to the fact that I just pretend to know German without actually knowing anything. But namely, actually making a ‘‘Here’s Johnny’‘ reference, so good, thank you for putting in the actual reference. The voice is relatively nice, I like the line delivery in quite a few scenes.

7/10 does the job and I like it well enough

and Russian.... uhhh.... I appreciate the fact that even a modicum of emotion was portrayed in the acting (if you’ve ever listened to a russian dub of anything, you’ll understand that this is high praise). Are there line changes? Dunno, stopped learning russian when I was 4 years old so I only know about 5 words

Onto the original, the Japanese. Happy bday Mr. Sakurai! What can I say, it’s the og acting, ofc it’s gonna be my favorite, it’s how the lines were originally meant to be said. This man is so good, his voice is so pleasing to listen to. He strikes the perfect balance between Normal, Killer, Yandere and Child. Just the right amount of everything, a perfect voice for Cutthroat.

i think steampianist's thing really suits kabukimono. the speaker in the song struggles to convey emotions properly and wishes to have certain traits ("hair like yours," "hands like yours," "eyes to stare and to cry with," "fingers that curl in the cold"), which can be read as fervently coveting to look and feel "normal." or, in kabukimono's case, to look and feel human.

like the speaker in the song, kabukimono cannot understand or show certain emotions, and so he learns from those around him (like a sponge absorbing new information) about human life. he hides his true nature as a puppet and learns how to live as a human, but as human as he may act he can never truly be human if the parameters set for what it means to be human are that (1) you must have a heart and (2) your lifespan must be finite (which are parameters kabukimono thinks equals humanity). he has neither of these, which is why he never truly views himself as a human even though you could argue that being "human" simply means you are a complex individual who can feel, think, speak, and articulate (all things kabukimono is capable of).

as the song nears its conclusion, it's implied that the speaker hurt or killed their friends in some way, and you learn that all along this "thing" has wanted companionship and to feel and display emotions properly. but something goes wrong and the result is this eerie line: "struggling only makes the hugs much tighter." both kabukimono and the speaker in the song are driven by their obsessions, and both have bloodied their hands as the result of their circumstances (kabukimono's motivation for murder being revenge and the speaker's most likely being the threat of their friends leaving, so they become determined to make them stay even if it ends in death).

and by the end, the speaker still continues to wish for the traits mentioned above. likewise, kabukimono continues in his travels after sating his hunger for revenge and with "human" traits he has learned and experienced throughout his journey, only to soon step onto the path that leads him to becoming a harbinger once he comes to believe that his "humanity" is a sign of weakness. and so he does away with the things that made him human and starts a new era of his existence (albeit a more violent, cruel one), much like how the speaker in the song will probably continue to search for a way to express themselves in socially acceptable ways.

i think popopo could also fit kabukimono in that it's a song about an alien who travels from planet to planet in hopes of finding a home and a friend, but no one accepts or wants him so he is constantly shunned and lonesome. thus he is a "shooting star sinking in the spacey, black tar" with "hopes and dreams in teardrops," which are lines that fit kabukimono so much!

I've been thinking abt Chip (and my ship w/ him) a lot man (yes more than usual) and cog I love that woman. He's apathetic as hell. He hates a vast majority of people. went to a huge Taylor Swift dance party last night with a friend, I haven't listened to her since I was like 14 honestly and almost didn't go, Ive been so stressed abt uni bc damn.. I'm not personally a fan of MJ as a character, HOWEVER.

Amazing Mary Jane (the comic) single-handedly made me like her and be more interested. She was really well written and super cool in that little comic run.

I like the weird friendship that developed between her and Mysterio who she went above and beyond helping.

Like.. that comic was so good it made me like MJ and usually I just find her so boring. that's the only version of her I like.
