Changes could be coming to Winnipeg’s short-term rental regulations after city council voted to bring in new rules earlier this year.

A new report before the city’s property and development committee is recommending amendments to the city’s zoning bylaws. These changes would establish a framework for regulating short-term rentals, including establishing them as a land use under certain zoning districts.

Under the new amendments, bed and breakfasts would be included under the designation. These businesses are currently categorized as home-based businesses.

The report also states that short-term rentals will be licensed and enforced through the community safety business licensing bylaw.

Every single week, without fail, I lose an object. It's always an object that I place on a very specific place every single time, but then one time I decide to put it away somewhere else. I NEVER remember where that is. The one thing I hate about myself, and I do mean deeply and profoudnly hate, is how fucking shitty my memory is. I have gotten late to work because I picked up my keys on the way out, but then quickly set them down somewhere, but because I picked them up it was enough for my brain to register as "you have your keys" and then I couldn't find them anywhere for 30 minutes. I once tore the house apart, literally throwing drawers open and looking under the bed in despair, because I hung my purse on the mirror instead of the coat-rack behind the door, and I could not find it. This shit happens every week. Last week it was a wallet I just found crushed between two books, and today it's a recipe book. Next week it will be something else.

"You should try--" nothing works. It got so bad at one point I was literally medicated against my will, and it did shit. Every single technique known to man, from every ADHD online guru to Improve Your Memory gurus you can think of, everything failed. It's just a fucked up thing about my brain I have to live with.

Unpopular opinion: most Targaryens aren’t bad (yes their dynasty is awful) but it’s not like they could choose the House/dynasty they where born into or the fact they where descendants of three blood-thirsty-dragon-riding conquerors.

While someone isn’t inherently bad because they happen to be part of a certain family, the Targaryen dynasty does socialize and mold it’s members a certain way that leads a substantial amount of them to become proponent to fire and blood as they so famously say and flippantly use their power and weapons of mass destructions. They are essentially hailed over everyone else and treated by the people around them as being superior to others and socialized to view power over any other as their birthright regardless of the consequences that they often see themselves as being entitled to create in the first place as well. The system itself is the larger problem, but that system has deep ramifications in the mindset and tendencies of the individuals. This leads to a recurring pattern of constant dangerous petulance (such as the one present in all three central Targaryens in House of the Dragons) that so many of it’s members (and other major families have too, albeit typically to a much lesser and less (but still) inherently destructive degree) have in regards to power. So much that a lot of them, such as the ones in that conflict (like Rhaenyra) are far more concerned about ‘’how the throne rightfully belongs to them’’ just because it does rather than have any actual and concrete consideration or investment in the people they’re ruling in the first place.

Anyhow, their continued existence exists due to continuous incestuous practice to maintain their ‘’special bloodline’’. Their reign is founded on their initial conquest and even more importantly, continuous terrorization of the rest of the seven kingdoms because they have the fantasy equivalent of nuclear bombs, and so even most of  the better Targaryens ruler and members end up being complicit and a part of this larger tyranny and incestuous hazard regardless of their personal morals. Like practically every other major house in Westoros as well, no patriarchy (let alone those at the top of it) and no monarchical power can be ethical in the first place so their whole reign and continued hold to power is inherently unethical, and that manifests itself substantially in how women, lower-class people and anybody who doesn’t submit to them, are treated. 

 It’s made worse here due to how their reign is held together by fire and blood, and so when tested, there’s where most of them end up falling back on, especially since that’s what they’re brought up to do with the superficial element of their family’s history validating that tendency to use their power recklessly to dominate. Not all of them are inherently bad (and some of them are innocent and haven’t done any wrongs) but the awful dynasty in question is structured in a way that results in a surplus of destructive entitlement in the family as a whole and even a lot of the rulers that don’t rely on ‘’fire and blood’’ as much, still put their efforts in keeping this awful dynasty in power (despite their positive intentions that only matter in the very short term) and ensuring that their destructive entitlement will be continued on in later generations.

British Columbia’s minister of housing says he’s shocked and frustrated by an attempt to recruit people to take part in what he calls a fraud to get around new rules about short-term rentals. Ravi Kahlon shared a screenshot on social media showing a Vancouver-based rental management company offering $500 to people willing to change the address on their driver’s licence to match an address it selects, then apply for an Airbnb approval. That’s to skirt new rules coming next year that would allow people to offer short-term accommodation only if it’s at their principal residence. Kahlon says anyone considering the offer needs to understand that the scheme is illegal, and those taking part would find themselves in “a lot of trouble for really no gain.”

One of the funnier things from the Quora Tolkien digests is that, for whatever reasons, I get a lot of answers that are very fixated on Aragorn's descent from Lúthien and will reference Legolas's quote about the line of Lúthien never failing as if Aragorn's accomplishments were entirely attributable to his ancestry and nobody in the houses of Elros or Isildur or Anárion ever failed at anything or were just kind of shitty.

It feels almost unsporting to point out Pharazôn failing so hard he got his kingdom eternally sunk into the sea, so I'll settle for Arvedui of Arthedain, who definitely failed at several things that contributed to his death. There's Eärnur of Gondor, who rode into Minas Morgul to demand single combat with a being prophesied to never be killed by a man and was never seen again. There's the super racist Castamir who kickstarted (and ultimately lost) the Gondorian civil war that devastated Osgiliath.

Oh, and for the "just kind of shitty" contingent, there's Ar-Gimilzôr, an oppressor who forced his wife to marry him despite her unwillingness, along with Herucalmo, who ruled through the authority of his wife Tar-Vanimeldë and upon her death, seized the throne from his own son. Tar-Ancalimë's husband Hallacar (who tried to outmaneuver her with dubious success at best) sucked too, along with her cousin Soronto (who tried to either supplant her as heir or succeed her and achieved neither).

Descent from Elros grants stature and abilities of varying kinds to his descendants. It does not grant success or virtue, though.

Rewatching DS9 and VOY has just made me want to do episode rewrites but with the TOS crew. So what about Voyager s2 e25 Resolutions but with TOS mckirk or AOS spones. This is a kinda long post and just my random thoughts so heres a keep reading

So Jim and Bones are stuck on a planet while infected with some virus that doesn't effect them while on the surface. And the Enterprise then has to leave because of some reason. So Spock is left in charge like Tuvok was and has to deal with the fact that the Captain and CMO have been left behind and with the growing resentment towards him even though Kirk ordered them to leave.

Also like the idea of Bones being busy researching how to cure them while Jim quickly grows to enjoy the easy living and maybe for once in his life the ship isn't a burden on him. While bones is losing his mind because being stuck on a planet with nothing but researching this one cure is like Bones' worse nightmare. (like i know most people would think Bones would be like Chakotay but its my episode rewrite and i can do what i want). Also the idea of Jim wanting to build them a log cabin extension is very fun. Also since neither of them have any romantic attachments they actually do something about the romantic tension and then have to deal with that when they get back on the ship.

Though I'm not sure if they would have to ask for help from some enemy or Bones would just figure out a cure. Maybe Bones finds a cure and then isn't sure what to do since Jim seems so happy and he doesn't want to ruin that or maybe he thinks if they go back to the ship Jim will just pretend what happened on the planet didn't. And then a day later the ship comes back with a cure and he has to deal with the fact that he didn't instantly tell Jim about it. And of course Jim finds out and hes conflicted because he wants to be angry at Bones for not telling him right away but hes also angry that the cure was found at all so its a whole mess.

Or if it was AOS it would be Bones and Spock who are left behind mainly so it would mirror the fact that Janeway has a partner back home so spones just have awkward weird romantic tension. (not sure if this would have mckirk as well or just spuhura) Though in this version nothing would actually happen on the planet cos no cheating thanks, also not enough time would have past where they actually think theres no going back. Not sure either Spock or Bones would be like Chakotay, they'd both be super focused on finding a cure. They would also have to deal with this fallout on the ship but it would be in a very different way than TOS mckirk. Maybe if theres no mckirk it would end up with mccoy/spock/uhura in some configuration. Though if mckirk was already a couple it would stay the two different couples. lmao or maybe mckirk comes out of it since jim realised how much he actually missed Bones. i dont know this is post is turning into a mess

So its Jim and Nyota who have to deal with leaving the people they care most about behind. As i think there would be less resentment from the crew to deal with. I'm sure the med crew would miss their boss but they would have less power to make a fuss about it.

But theres still the fact that they're not as far away from starfleet as Voyager was and why the ship would leave but like why should that stop me?

I mean it could also just be AOS mckirk on the planet but for some reason i'm more drawn to the TOS version in this instance
