I hope you're having a great start to April! 💐 While I do have a few funny questions about the TFS characters, I was in the mood for something softer today. This is also a public post on TFS Patreon. 🌲

As for cuddling, it might depend on your Returning Visitor's preferences, but in general:

Either works for B! They want you to express your preference first to ensure your comfort level since this is new. They're just happy to be cuddling you. 😌 B would have a very soft look on their face and will pull you near or tuck closer after the two of you settle down.

Hmm, S would probably be okay with either so long as they also get to hold your hand while you're cuddling together. I could see a slight preference for big spoon with them. They enjoy wrapping the MC up in their arms or pulling them back against their chest to rest/unwind.

The Verner heir is a butter knife or a grapefruit spoon... >.> R can sometimes bea little spoon, not that they would ever call it that, and they would shuffle around for a while before settling next to you to be held, silently daring you to say something about it. R likes (craves) the contact! They seek out the reassurance of touch, so being held or holding the MC satisfies what has been missing and overlooked in the recent past. (Ms. Verner hasn't hugged her child in years, and R isn't used to the softer, gentler side of physical intimacy.) It's more likely to happen—to be expressed—deeper in romance when their guard lowers some. 🖤👀

In general, they just prefer you both to be wrapped up in each other, molten spoons!

J tends to be the big spoon. They like to hold you very close and have you near. On occasion, our Detective would actually really love to be the little spoon after long days at work or if they just need to be held, preferably tucked away in your arms and knowing you won't let go. It's a rarity, but when it happens, you'll know how much J missed you. (Bonus points if you play with their hair, which can help them relax, if not melt, even further into your hold.)

JR's cuddling somewhat depends on the MC's preference, but R likes to be in the middle or have you in the middle, while J tends to be on one of the sides. R is determined to have contact with both of you! 😏 J is more lowkey about this, draping an arm over the two of you or occasionally resting a gentle hand so they know you're there. Deeper in romance, R will be able to pick up, if not sense, when J needs to be in the center. They'll ensure that J gets that time and affection.

Mal is already known for having an encompassing presence that ensnares the MC. This is only reinforced by their scenes in Book Two that can significantly deepen the romance route. Our beloved red flag might turn into a blanket for those who treat them right. 💞 They'll want the MC firmly entrenched within their space by either holding them to their chest or allowing themself to be held. Regardless, Mal returns any attention tenfold. Big spoon, little spoon, switchblade, etc. As long as they're with you, Mal doesn't really care about the positions.

One thing that surprised Alex when they came back to Fernweh was how comforting Reese was in a way.

With Jane, there was a certain awkwardness in their relationship due to uncertainty. Like how do you interact with someone who is so, SO familiar and knew you better than anyone else but now is also completely different because you two were apart for almost a decade?

And Silas for all his politeness and kindness CAN be hard to read if you don't know where to look, especially since they weren't super close as children anyways.

But Reese? God it was so easy to fall back into their old dynamic. The banter, the competitiveness, Alex never thought it would be VERNER of all people that would make this trip back home less awful

Happy Birthday Everly! 🎂

I was trying to decide (my Fernweh Saga MC) Everly's birthday awhile back ago using this post and this one as a guide, so I decided to try making a timeline, or well, listing the birthdays in order of age anyway.

(The years are just for examples, NOT canon).

So, in order from oldest to youngest (removing Ms. Verner and Mrs. Dorran because I have no idea of their ages):

Mal: May 26th (????-1999), Gemini. ♊ Hawthorn (The Illusionist)

J: July 2nd (1999), Cancer. ♋ Oak (The Stabilizer)

R: November 22nd (1999), Sagittarius (the Scorpio-Sagittarius cusp). ♐ Reed (The Inquisitor)

S: February 8th (2000), Aquarius. ♒ Rowan (The Thinker)

Everly: February 29th (2000), Pisces. ♓ Ash (The Enchanter)

B: October 17th (2001), Libra. ♎ Ivy (The Survivor)

A: March 4th (2002-2003), Pisces. ♓ Ash (The Enchanter)

R got the year before S and MC simply because generally that late in the year, if R was born the same example year as the MC (2000), R would have ended up in the school year/grade under MC because the birthday cut off date is usually August or September iirc (if they are in the USA anyway), and if I'm not mistaken they are meant to be in the same grade school year as both S and MC. So keeping them in the same grade got priority over keeping their birthdays in the same year.

I also have it on good authority (I asked the author and got permission to share the answer) that A is younger than B by a year or so and Mal is older than the MC (though I don't know by how much). So Mal gets a range starting with question marks for their birth year, and A got a range that makes them one to two years younger than B.

Forgive me for not tagging Mal but I'd rather tag them by name rather than Waiter and Waitress but since we don't have their names yet I can't tag them.

Fernweh Saga Headcanons.

This is mainly about my MC, Sparrow, but also includes dynamics and things with Fernweh characters. Sparrow is my MC, the others (James, Reese, Silas, Beckett, Mal, ect ect) and The Fernweh Saga belong to @lacunafiction . Go buy the book rn.

Just silly headcanons/things from before the book takes place.

Sparrow likes to make "The Birds and the Bees" jokes around Beckett.

In school was pobably that kid with undiagnosed ADHD that was rather good in class without trying (Too Reese's annoyance)

Left Fernweh and moved to a big city, similar to NY or something, just big and busy, loves it, grew only more impulsive and reckless.

Hates wearing ties, always wants to undo Reese's and James ties for shits and giggles, sometimes tugs on their ties to bring them to his eye level (definitely a flirty thing and not because he's 5'4 and their 6').

Worked incredibly hard to buy his own guitar and drumset, heavily misses his instrument while stuck in Fernweh.

Use to play a classic violin, saw an eletric violin once, brought it and went completely rock, still knows how to play the classic though.

Finger drummer, foot tapper, cannot sit still, unfocused, definitely ADHD.

Definitely thought him and Reese were friends as kids, even if Reese didn't, he heavily enjoyed the rivalry, bringing out his competitive (and sometimes combative) nature.

Tried to convince Beckett to join him in parkour/abandoned houses/other stupid shit, to Beckett's horror, who occasionally joined Sparrow durring his reckless shit to keep an eye on him.

When Sparrow was a kid and got in arguments with his parents, has 'ranaway' a few times to Silas/Mrs Dorren's house for like an hour, his parents watched him go there.

Always waved/yelled a greeting to Silas when he saw him on the porch as neighbors, wouldn't stop waving untill Silas would say something back.

Wants a motorbike, has only grown into a need when he saw Mal's motorbike, really wants to take it for a spin.

James and Reese can just, pick up their short, feral boyfriend, James could probably one arm Sparrow and throw him over his shoulder, Reese encourages this.

Sparrow dyes his own hair, it took a few tries to get it right.

Likes to (affectionately) bite people he cares about. Especially their shoulders. Sometimes lacks self control to stop, but when he does manage to stop himself he'll stare at their shoulder or bite his own arm without explanation, this is something both James and Beckett are well aware of.

Sparrow actually prefers energy drinks over coffee, tea, ect.

Sparrow can't cook, usually brought takeaways, sometimes forgets to eat for an entire day, cue Beckett dragging Sparrow to his home so he'll eat something that wasn't 2 minute noodles, ect.

It was another "Winescope" Saturday night. That was the nickname Lara gave to the Saturday nights she'd call Bee, alongside her friends from the Observatory's Lab, and they'd discuss silly things, tell funny stories from the workplace while "getting alcoholed up" with good wine. She'd always invite Bee with the biggest hug and the hugest smile on her face.

She was still flush from laughing about some silly story when the mail came in. Somehow, something was different. She read the mail with the same efficiency and calm she'd do with a particularly difficult academic book. The bright smile on her face died slowly. The flush gave away to a pale tanned face. There was a distant look in her eyes.

Later that day, when she apologized to her friends and said an emergency occurred, Bee stood there. They wouldn't leave her without understanding and supporting their friend. Lara would always tell them they are the sweetest person in this world.

She explained the content of the letter, trying to give a very fragile smile to sooth them from any worries.

And now, after they came to help her with her load and everything happened, she'll take their load off of them.

She'll protect Bee with her life. And she dares anyone to try and hurt them. She shouldn't put them in this position in the first place. It's her fault.

It always is.

I'm sorry, Bee. You are an amazing person.

It was weird seeing S again, after such a long time. Lara has vague memories from her childhood. Maybe too much information can do that to one's mind, alongside trauma.

But Lara does remember fondly of their reading nights at Turn the Page. And she'd always smile when S spoke up their opinions in class. It's something she really admired about them.

Even with their taciturness, she'd always love to talk with them about any subject. They were always filled with wonder on how things worked, just as she was.

That didn't change. They are the same quiet, extremely smart person she remembers. And she still can talk about any subject with them and just have fun talking.

She hopes they like her as much as she adores them.

Thank you for looking out for Pa. I don't know how I'll ever repay you, S.

Lara could never understand exactly why R took an interest in her. They were an heir, and she wasn't a competitive child by any means. But the competitions were really fun, and something she looked forward to.

Funny that they didn't know how to react when she proposed a hug challenge. Huh. She'd study that reaction later on. If R wanted to call her a "rival", she didn't mind.

But she did call them her friend. She was really shy during the debates, though. R could have some sense and try not to mess with her so much. But she adored that in them too.

It was interesting seeing them again. They said they've waited for her? They seem so much more patient with her now. She'll never be able to figure them out completely, will she? Lara hopes R didn't felt so alone as they look now, behind all the teasing smiles.

She can't pick everything apart in the lab to try and understand them, not with people she cares about.

I'm sorry for leaving in such a difficult time, R. And I'm sorry you got hurt. I'll hunt down whoever did this, so they'll never have a chance to do it again.

JJJ, Lara missed you so much! So much. She missed all their nights reading comics and days just enjoying each other's company. Her memories from bike rides around lakes, of them cooking together with their mother or just basking in the sun eating oranges are so soft.

She missed their quiet company that would come alive whenever she was near. They were there with her when she discovered her passion for the stars. They learned to use a telescope together, and they would do Math marathons to learn more about charting while hiding under blanket forts.

She'd always pester them about everything going on her mind. And she insisted that they got the puzzle chrome part first, but they'd always put her first.

Something changed. There's something so guarded and angry about their posture now. Detective work must be so heavy on them. She wishes she could help ease their burden.

There are still softness in their eyes when they meet hers. But also there's a distance that she can't fix.

She can't fix everything. That much is clear. But it hurts. They never got her letters. That's why they have this cold anger whenever Pa is mentioned?

She should have tried harder. It haunts her the image of J following Pa's truck. Lara tried to reach out, but her hands only met glass.

Oh, who is this? Did Lara meet him before? She doesn't remember him from her childhood memories. But then again, her memories are... off...

What is this man? He knows so much, behind those enigmatic eyes. Why does she feel naturally pulled towards him? Lara doesn't understand... But she likes that he's kind. Even if it must hurt to smile like that all the time.

She wants to understand. He looks like so much more, a real... puzzle. She loves puzzles.

He does seem to enjoy giving her little jumpscares, because she is always jumping whenever he appears. Was very kind of him to bring her some tea after the forest search. It was a taxing night.

And he has a very interesting nickname! Curious... what an observing and unnerving man. Charmer, huh?

Second, I'll gush a little about my little poor meow meow of a Dodo.

I just love how personalities are well written in this game , and that is what made me write this wall of text in the first place. The narrative is very fact-based, and something that I really loved, so I decided to make my MC a Head-oriented person with a science job, very unaware of her own emotions, but very observant and caring about others.

It's a nice juxtaposition for me.

Someone that is fiercely independent (believes the "teamwork makes the dream work!", tho), but is very shy and sweet.

Someone that is very head oriented, relies heavily on facts, but is incredibly friendly -a Dodo- (I love that in book 2 you have more joking options that are not so based in snark. Don't get me wrong, I love snarky humor and is greatly written here, but somehow the "... A metal mistress?" gets me every time <3)

Someone that is highly cautious, but oh boy, she is resistant as hell. She'll NOT bow down to anyone (except her Uni professors) and she'll face any fears head on. Whoever dares to hurt her or the people she loves will get hunted. But in a cold and calculating way.

I loved the Extrasensory Awareness, and it's even better that it is an *instinct*. Again, for someone who heavily relies on facts, it's funny to me. "Why do I feel like this????"

I didn't give Lara abandonment issues because she believed that her Grampa was trying to not lose her too. Even if in a very unhealthy way. She did fill her life with science and stars, building it up around the profession she fell in love with when a child. All thanks to J. It's a string that links her to her past. But she thinks that's all she can bring to the world. And she fear how coldly she can assess things, how unattached she can be with her own emotions when she is under pressure..

She's a moderate believer. Well, she couldn't exactly discount the walking tree, when it was walking right in front of her. That, my friend, is a fact.

Guilty gnaws at her. She feels guilty for bringing Bee here. She feels guilty for leaving J and R. Guilty over S being so perturbed about the city borders. Guilty about her whole family, who had to suffer such horrific deaths while she still walks this world. That's why she fills her life with her job. A starry sky is a graveyard of stars, is it not? Maybe they are watching over her.

And she is angry. Oh boy, she is livid. Who the fuck thinks they can do whatever they want with the people she loves? No one can mold her into a clay sculpture and expect her to just cave. She built her life mostly alone, and she'll not have that.

And overall, it's just very interesting to me to see Lara, a nerd, lab addicted scientist, who is deadly curious to understand everything in this world to be in this eerie place filled with mysteries and people she adores, falling in love for the first time and NOT KNOWING HOW TO COPE WITH IT.

She'll be the only MC that I'll play in this game because I really loved her personality. But if I had to choose a main RO, possibly it would be Mal because of the scientist X mystery idea. I chose all 5 of them, tho. MUAHAHHAA

And well, she is based on Lara Croft, as is abundantly clear. She is a very intelligent and curious woman, who goes to great lengths to discover mysteries and is very protective of the people she cares about (Jonah <3). Are those musical shenanigans?! - Fernweh Saga Edition!

In my last musical shenanigans post I mentioned that I'd be taking a break from making music but ✨inspiration✨ decided otherwise so here we are, I'm a mess but y'all are probably used to it by now 😌

Hey, hello and welcome to another post of music equipped with ramblings, if y'all wanna check out previous musical shenanigans posts, then here you go :3

If you don't know what Fernweh Saga then I honestly don't know what to tell you, I'm disappointed 😔 (/j), GO CHECK IT OUT (with my usual aggressive politeness :3)

Anyway, without any further ado, here you go:

Becca/Beckett Warrick:

Well for B, I'm in standard tuning (that doesn't happen a lot), and I'm playing a (D7, Fmaj7, Bm7, E7) progression, and they way I came up with this is thinking about B's pessimistic viewpoint so my choice of chords wasn't on the cheerful (usually major) side but also their care for the mc so I didn't use darker and more sader chords, It's somewhere in between this and that, here it is:

Sofia/Silas Dorran:

For S, I'm still in standard tuning did something that I thought was ✨very smart✨ but at the sametime very chaotic, so to highlight the fact that "once they decide to be invested, actions that defy logic and reason will be considered to protect the ones they care for", and what I did is basically pressed record and played the chords that came to mind because when I make these posts my usual logic is to plan the melodies, but this time I made sure that wasn't the case, and here it is:

Ruby/Reese Verner:

For R's recording, I played with capo on second or third fret, and the progression is (D - Dsus2 - D - Dsus4) and I used these chords which are on the more cheerful side to highlight R's playfulness but also made sure to try and follow the same strumming melody as much as I could to highlight R's calculating side, and yeah here it is:

Jane/James Corvin:

Serious, all work and no play? You best bet I got that covered, with capo on third fret, I'm playing a melody that goes up and down the fretboard, with a chord that looks like an (Am) but the D string open, and the melody is a bit on the gloomier side, highlighting J's serious personality but it's still a warm melody to show J's care for the mc, here it is:

August 26. It all started that night. That night na di ko inexpect na mangyari. We’re both sober. We’re both happy.We’re both walang pake sa mga tao sa paligid natin kasi pareho tayong masaya. Yung sayang walang alinlangan. Patuloy nating ginawa ang mga bagay na parang mag jowa until that day na pinaalam mo sakin na may jowa ka pala. Pinakita mo pa nga picture niya sakin. Wala nanlumo lang ako. Di nagsalita pero tumawa na parang wala lang pero sa loob ko may spark at naitanong ko sa sarili ko na bat ang sakit ni wala ngang kami. Eh siguro nga kasi special ka sakin. Pinagpatuloy ko na ganto tayo na parang tayo pero hindi naman talaga. Tas dumating na sa punto na ang pagkakaalam ng both sides natin na mag jowa tayo pero alam nating dalawa na hindi talaga kaya hinayaan nalang muna natin sila kasi nga masaya naman tayo. I mean masaya ka. Yung sayang walang bahid ng kung anu-ano. Umabot nga tayo ng dalawang buwan na ganto. Pero di dapat eh nagui-guilty na ako sa mga ginagawa natin. Naawa na ako sa sarili ko. Bumaba na din tingin ko sa sarili ko dahil sa mga ginagawa natin na wala namang kasigurado lahat kasi di mo kayang panindigan kung ano ang iyong nasimulan. Nasasaktan na ako kasi natutonan na din naman kitang mahalin. Hanggang umabot na sa punto na habang tumatagal sobrang sakit na pala. Habang umabot na rin sa punto na ang saya mong tingnan pag kasama kita pero ang sakit sakit na sa puso kasi di ka naman akin kasi alam ko din naman sa sarili ko na di pwede maging tayo. Ang tanga ko lang kasi ilang beses mo na akong binigyan ng rason para iwan ka pero wala eh nagstay pa rin ako kahit ako na yung nasasaktan. Kasi nakikita ko kasi na masaya ka pagkasama ako. (Hoping di walang kaplastikan yun.)

Bumitaw na ako kasi tangna sobrang sakit na talaga. Bumitaw na ako kasi ito lang naman yung hinihintay mo. Bumitaw na ako kasi paran ginagamit mo lang talaga ako. Bumitaw ako para di kana maconfuse sa mga bagay bagay. Bumitaw ako para sa ikasaya mo. Bumitaw na ako para sa ikaluluwag ng puso at isip mo.

Salamat nga pala sa mga araw at gabi na nagsama at sinamahan moko. Salamat sa pagpapasaya sakin. For this ask, we are going to pretend cellphones are common in Fernweh despite the lacking signal. :D

B: I feel like B might actually almost give it before realizing this was meant in a romantic way. Let the backpedaling begin! “Oh yeah, I'll add you too. My partner has all the heart emojis though. They are also, like, my emergency contact, so... What's your name again??” Hopefully, their sheepish flush isn't misinterpreted as a blush. It was an accident! They are going to tell you once you come back and/or rescue them.

S: “I’ll pass, but thanks.” Polite, nonchalance helps to soften S's rejection, although any persistence/insistence from their admirer will cause S's sharp wit to leave a mark. They will likely try to create some distance after that answer, walking away or going back to reading, etc.

R: “483-003-21—My partner will kill you." 🥴 No hesitation with shutting the person down with a slightly playful edge to it. Yes, they would say this even about the sweetest and shyest MC just to make it clear that they aren't available or interested. R doesn't understand how the person missed the hint from earlier, but they are willing to remind them.

J: “...I don't have a phone.” 😐 Very calm, possibly too calm, and neutral. Before the person could even ask for their number, J was starting to look for you since they lost interest while still not yet cluing into their admirer's infatuation with them. If the person insists, J leaves. They don't have time for this and would much prefer finding you again. (Also, yeah, J has a phone, only very few people know their number.)

Mal: “Now why would you want my number when your phone's broken?” The admirer might grow confused, lighting up the screen of their phone to prove a point, just in time to see Mal's polished smile turn sharper. They get the hint and back off, possibly backing away. Zero tolerance from Mal, especially since this person must have timed asking them this question given how busy our enigmatic server can be.

Becca Warrick:

After seeing Alex zone out the entire day after reading that "condolence letter", Becca sees it as her mission to accompany them in a makeshift roadtrip.

Alex is extremely grateful for Becca's comforting (grounding) presence while in Fernweh, a place that is now unfamiliar. Alex knows their self-isolating tendencies were one of the reasons Becca wanted to stick close, but they don't fault her for it.

Alex feels responsible for Becca's well-being the same way, since they knew the Fernweh citizens wouldn't be as hospitable as the Dorran family. They are both ride-or-die for each other.

If Alex thought leaving Fernweh would be bittersweet, having doomed Becca to being stuck in town it's only bitter.

Silas Dorran:

Silas and Alex were both on the quieter side, but that didn't stop them from bonding over their shared interests.

They would both spend afternoons reading quietly together, or having Alex infodump about the different mythologies and tales their Grandpa taught them.

The years away have made Silas harder to read, for Alex at least, but they still hold onto those fond memories.

Also Alex wants to let it be known that if Silas hasn't asked to borrow that encyclopedia, they would've snatched it for themself.

Reese Verner:

Oh how to even begin describing Reese Verner? Alex never understood why a Verner would even care about them, let alone see them as an opponent in any way, and yet a rivalry blossomed between them. He could make them flip between (very) begrudging fondness and exasperated annoyance in a heartbeat.

Alex wasn't sure WHEN they developed a crush on their rival, but they knew it was something they were going to take to their grave. Being forced to leave Fernweh came earlier though.

Almost a decade passing can do wonders for an one-sided crush, but having to return to Fernweh changed things again. Their childhood rival was flirting? With them???

With a mix of disbelief, a rare feeling of insecurity and something bordering almost on denial, they try not to get their hopes up. They HAD to leave in a week, after all. When they shake Reese's hand they can’t help but wonder if it's perhaps for the best...

Jane Corvin:

Their best friend! Their favorite person ever! Or so it's what they would've said had they been asked years ago. Alex saw Jane as essentially a platonic soulmate, even daydreaming of moving in together when they grow up.

The house fire was hard, but leaving without saying goodbye was somehow harder, something they still harbor some guilt over even if irrationally. The only thing left from those years of friendship being a necklace they couldn't even bear to wear nor throw away.

Seeing Jane after all those years left a bittersweet taste. Alex didn't know where they would fit in her life, if they would still fit in her life, (they would have to leave again, they shouldn't, couldn't stay).

Their dynamic still has some lingering awkwardness from the years away, but Alex wants to make up for the absence. It's the least she deserves.

The Waiter:

Their interest in the elusive waiter isn't completely physical in nature. He also makes them feel deeply intrigued.

Ramble and random thoughts:

Why don't they remember ever meeting or seeing him around? Why does he seem to know so much?

Ignoring their instincts, their caution and the voice in their head warning them about stranger danger (it sounds suspiciously like Becca), they accept his drink.

Their curiosity got the best of them, that and this strange allure that seems to draw them together. Spending some more time together could be the thing that makes them able to decipher him.

Ok so, my favorite TFS ability is actually Empathetic Impressions BUT I decided to make Retrocognition Alex's canon one. Why?

Because it is the one most similar to their Grandpa's :3

Impressions is more emotion-based and the other one feels more... instinct-based? So I wanted a time-related to match with their Grandpa's weird future-sight thing. Especially because Alex has their Issues and Grudges tm towards him. It rubs salt in the wound c:

That's also why I made their Past Susceptibility be Buried. I thought it would be funny to make the person trying to repress their past have an ability to Literally see into the past.

I also made them have high Skeptic stats because they don't want to become like their Grandpa. They saw the similarities and said no thanks actually.

Yes, their whole character creation was me trying to see how much dramatic irony I could add to their life before I decided I was being Too mean. I am not beating the ??? allegations am i

Another fun fact but despite the Merciful stat, they actually took the cruel choice with the Spriggan and the lighter. Perhaps they view it as a mercy? Considering they would've liked to do way worse to the thing that hurt their friends

Also if Reese wasn't my favorite (no shit), their canon romance would've probably been Becca or Jane since I believe feeling comforted and having a sense of familiarity is probably something they crave in a relationship

Regardless of route however, I think having a past crush on Reese is canon to them in all my playthroughs. Me 🤝 Alex. Having horrible taste.

Not that I think he's a bad choice but yknow between your undyingly loyal best friend and your cool and chill neighbor, having a crush on that one guy who competes with you everyday is objectively not the easiest route lol.
