My Stucky meets Hadestown fic that resides in WIP purgatory.

Above him, the bright sun was slowly covered by dark grey clouds as the earth trembled and roared beneath him. A great crevice opened and Bucky was forced to hide his smile as a tall man stepped out from the broken ground. Despite his entrance, the vest and slacks he wore were clean and the dark glasses reflected the gray light.

Bucky felt a presence at his back and didn’t need to turn to know his mother stood just a few feet away. With his first step toward the cavern, Bucky watched as leaves began to fall over the ground, turning brown in death.

“I’ll see you in the spring,” his mother said curtly.

Bucky nodded but didn’t answer her. As he drew nearer to the cavern, he called, “You’re early.”

The man pulled the dark frames off of his face, revealing glowing blue eyes. “I missed you,” he rumbled and Bucky couldn’t fight the grin that spread across his face.

“I missed you too,” he replied, reaching his hands out.

When the man took them in his own, he pulled Bucky forward and suddenly they were surrounded by darkness. It wasn’t bad, though, not when the blue glow of those eyes lit him up from deep in his soul.

He wasn’t wearing his vest anymore. Part of his chest and abdomen were exposed and Bucky didn’t have to wonder what was beneath it. He knew.

Bucky was also dressed differently than he’d been before; his chest was exposed but for the veil that covered his face. They danced and swayed, pressing close together, and Bucky sighed into the feeling of being whole again.

“Good dream?” The man asked and Bucky frowned.

“What?”

Finally, his mother’s voice came through the haze. “You must have been having a good dream,” she said, brushing Bucky’s long hair away from his face.
