“10 measly dollars”
So this isn’t a request, but an idea I had that I wanted to write. It’s not an x reader (my first one), as it describes the moment of Eliza and Isaac’s death. You’ll probably all hate me for this! There is some fluff at the start, and I have written a slightly fluffy ending (I couldn’t bring myself not to), but the middle is not a pleasant read; I’m aiming for tears here. Can also be found on AO3.
Characters: Arthur Morgan/Eliza/Isaac
Guidance: Fluff, violence, death (including of a child), fluff again.
Words: 1.5k
It was a lovely summer’s afternoon as Eliza sat on the front porch of her little home, watching her son play with his new wooden toy horse. His dad had brought the horse on this latest visit, and little Isaac couldn’t be more pleased with it. He’d tried to name it after his Dad’s horse, Boadicea, but after many failed attempts to pronounce it, had settled on Boady. Eliza smiled, listening to Isaac describe him and Boady’s latest adventures, leaping across ravines (small stones) and crossing deep rivers (a small tub of water Isaac had insisted she put out so that Boady could have a drink).
There was a clatter from the shack behind her, followed by some muffled swearing.
“You alright in there Arthur?”
The tall, broad man emerged from the small, one-room building. He was a handsome man, the afternoon sunlight making his dirty blonde hair seem lighter than normal.
“Yeh, fine thanks Eliza. You know I just struggle to move around in there, everythin’s too close together” he grumbled, making Eliza chuckle.
“You got everything you need?” she asked, standing up and leaning against one of the porch supports, still keeping an eye on her – their – son.
“Yeh, think so. Don’t really want to leave though.” Arthur moved to stand next to Eliza, hands resting on his belt, watching Isaac as him and Boady made another daring leap into a raging torrent, according to the commentary.
“I know, Arthur, I know. But you’ve been here 5 days already, I’m surprised they haven’t sent a search party out for you.”
Arthur sighed before placing his new hat on his head and turning to look at Eliza. She’d given that hat to him on this latest visit; it wasn’t expensive, and she’d mostly bartered for it using some eggs and vegetables from her garden, but she was glad she had. It suited him, and she suspected it was the only gift Arthur had received in years.
“I’m sorry I couldn’t bring more money Eliza.” Arthur looked ashamed, like he’d done something terrible. Eliza placed a hand on his arm and gave him a reassuring pat.
“It’s okay Arthur, it really is. You brought enough food to last us for at least 3 months, and I don’t think Isaac is ever going to put that toy horse down.” Eliza smiled, gazing up into Arthur’s soft blue-green eyes. “You know you don’t have to bring anything anyway, just make sure you don’t leave it too long between visits; Isaac gets anxious when he doesn’t see you.”
“You can say I don’t need to bring anythin’ all you want Eliza, I still will” Arthur chuckled, before growing more serious again. “I know I ain’t much, and you deserve better than what you got, but I will do right by you and the boy.”
“Mr Morgan, you always talk as if I wasn’t a willing participant in our little tryst.” Eliza said as she playfully tapped his arm. “We both knew the risks, and every time I look at that little boy I know I wouldn’t change a thing.” Her and Arthur hugged; on each fleeting visit they got to pretend that they were a normal, little happy family, but the visits were always over too soon, too far apart.
“You two be safe, okay?” Arthur said as he pulled away.
“Stop worrying Arthur, we’ll be fine. Mr Marshall from next door always makes sure to stop in to check on us on his way back from town, and his wife loves to babysit Isaac when I need to go and get something. Now hurry up or you’ll be riding through the night.” Arthur smiled before heading down the steps, stopping to say goodbye to Isaac. Isaac always got a bit upset when Arthur left; as Arthur got on his horse and rode off, Isaac ran over to cling to his mother’s skirts.
“It’s okay sweetheart, you know he’ll come back soon. Come on, let’s get you some dinner sorted.”
-----
Eliza had just put Isaac to bed when she heard voices outside and the sound of horses. This didn’t alarm her too much, her house was quite close to the road, but it was unusual for people to be passing at night. She moved to the door, reaching for the deadbolt Arthur had installed. Before she could get there, the door was kicked open, sending her flying backwards, knocking her head hard against the kitchen table.
Eliza tried to get to her feet as the two men barged into her house, but the blow to the head had left her dizzy, feeling like she was going to be sick. She tried to concentrate, to stop the room from spinning; as she did, she could just make out one of the men reaching for a shocked Isaac. Eliza tried to scream but a hand suddenly clamped over her mouth.
“Woman, don’t you dare. You just tell us where the money is, nice and quiet, and we’ll leave you two alone. Make a noise and we’ll give your son something to really cry about.” Eliza’s eyes grew wide as she saw the other man roughly pull Isaac out of bed and hold a knife to his throat. She gulped and nodded slightly before the man removed his hand from her mouth.
“It’s just there, under the sink. Please, please don’t hurt my boy” she begged. The man pulled open the cupboard doors, knocking over the carefully stacked supplies of food, pulling out the little box where Eliza kept her money.
“10 dollars? That it? You’re lying to us missy!” The man rounded on Eliza, smacking her across the face, causing Isaac to start crying. “We know you’re Arthur Morgan’s little whore, him and the other Van der Linde lot stole a score from us recently, we know he comes here to hide the cash. Now tell us where it is you bitch!” Another blow to Eliza’s face accompanied this last sentence.
“That’s everything I have, I swear! Arthur only brings a few dollars for us, enough to look after the boy, we’re nothing to do with the gang, I promise!” Eliza was panicking, she had nothing else to give these men, no jewellery, nothing.
Suddenly, the man holding Isaac screamed; Issac had bitten him. He released the boy, and Isaac ran as fast as he could across the room and out the front door. His captor chased him, and Eliza scrabbled to her feet after them; she didn’t make it out the door before she was grabbed from behind by the other man.
“You little brat!” Eliza froze, stopped struggling, as a shot rang out. Time seemed to slow as she saw the crumpled body of her little boy fall face forwards into the dirt and stay there, perfectly still. The scream that emanated from her was raw, animalistic; the pain spreading through her chest made her feel like it was her that had got shot. She struggled again, harder, fighting back viciously, as the man holding her tried to silence her again with his hand over her mouth.
“Oh will you just shut the bitch up! We’ll have to move quick anyway, someone was bound to have heard that. Won’t take long to tear this place apart, if she’d got something hidden we’ll find it, with or without her.”
Eliza finally broke free and launched herself towards the body of her son. She only made it a metre or two before another shot rang out, sending her sprawling. She felt a sharp pain in her chest which quickly spread; she was so close to Isaac, she could almost touch him. Everything had gone quiet; the edges of her vision were slowly fading to black as she dragged herself towards her dead child. She reached out, managing to touch his little fingers, before her head hit the ground and darkness enveloped her.
----
Eliza woke to the sounds of knocking at her front door. Bright sunshine was flooding the cabin, like it did every morning; Eliza couldn’t remember the last time it didn’t. She wasn’t too sure how long she’d been here, but she didn’t mind; it was quiet, and peaceful, and Isaac and her always had a perfect day.
When she opened the door, a familiar face greeted her. The woman had a slightly golden glow to her, just like everything did here; she was the one that had first greeted Eliza when she arrived, whenever that was.
“Eliza, my dear, we have a visitor for you. We’ve known he’d be coming for a while, though we weren’t sure when; but, he’s arrived now, and I think he would like to see both of you.” The woman moved to the side as a man stepped into view. He was tall, broad, with a familiar looking, albeit very worn, hat clutched in his hands. As Eliza looked at his face, into those blue-green eyes, she smiled.
“Do you think you can stay for longer this time?” she asked. The man stepped forward, placing a hand on her cheek.
“Yeh darlin’, I think I can.”

Day 19: Twilight AU | Vincent Van Gogh
★ Ikemen Vampire Fanfic ★ Vincent Van Gogh X OC Note: SFW | AU  Prompt List
“I am so excited! I’m glad I decided to stay at home tonight,” Arthur rubbed his hands in glee.
Theodorus rolled his eyes.
“I rather you not actually. I don’t want you scaring off our brother’s beloved with your raging boner.”
“Huh? Me? I’m not sure what raging boner you’re talking about, Theo,” Arthur feigned innocence, earning him a snarl from Theodorus.
“Now, now. Let’s not get too riled up. Let’s just make sure that everything is perfect when Vincent comes home alright?” The count says.
Theo nods, with a serious expression on his face.
“I fully agree.”
Napoleon gave a small smile.
“I agree as well.”
Issac rolled his eyes and sulked, earning him an elbow from Napoleon.
“What? Oh alright, fine. What do we have to do?” He grumbled, rolling up his sleeves.
-
The car ride was silent as Vincent drove.
“Are you nervous?” He asked.
Vicki nodded. The anxiety was filling her lungs. She could feel her heart palpitating and she was shaking slightly.
Vincent reached out to grab her hands in his and gave her a reassuring smile.
“Everything will be alright. My family’s eccentric but they’re a lovely bunch and they’ll love you.”
Vicki shivers slightly at his reassurance and he intertwines their fingers.
-
“Wait, Vincent,” She says, stopping him before he opened the door.
“What’s wrong?”
She smiled weakly.
“I’m still a little nervous.”
Vincent cupped her cheeks and she closed her eyes. His fingers brushed her eyelashes extremely gently.
“Everything will be alright.”
Vicki opened her eyes and smiles. She nuzzled Vincent’s palm. He chuckled.
“Besides, I think it’s a little too late to back out now. They know you’re here. They sound... excited. Should we go in?”
Vicki took a deep breath and nodded. Vincent’s eyes crinkled into a smile and he pushed the door open.
-
“Welcome to our home, Vicki!” A man who looked like he was in his late twenties embraced her and smiled warmly.
When he let go, he stepped back to reveal the 3 others with him.
They stood a little stiffly, like they were afraid to make any sudden movement.
Vincent smiled sweetly.
“Everyone, meet Vicki. Vicki, this is my family.”
Vicki smiled shyly, her fingers twisting together. Vincent laced his fingers through hers and he smiled at her encouragingly. He moved her forward slightly, not going too close. He knew she had her limits and he wanted to respect it.
“This is my oldest brother, the Count St. Germain,” Vincent said, gesturing to the vampire who had hugged her. The count’s eyes crinkled as he smiled. He oozed a sort of warm feeling.
‘It’s lovely to meet you finally, Vicki. We’re very happy to have you here.” The count said kindly.
Vicki blushed. She felt her anxiety slowly going away and a sudden feeling of warmth and comfort enveloped her. She looked at Vincent and he chuckled.
“That would be Napoleon. He possesses the unique ability of pathokinesis.”
Napoleon gave Vicki a stiff nod.
The count laughed, petting Napoleon on the shoulder. There was a thud and Vicki turned her head to see a man with grey hair and striking blue eyes come in from the wide, glass free window. He smiled a dazzling smile. He held a bunch of flowers in his hands. She heard Theo grumble something inaudible.
“You’re here!” He gasped happily. “Just in time for the flowers I got you.”
He walked forward, taking Vicki’s other free hand in his and pressed a kiss to it. He looked up and smiled, his eyes twinkling. A hint of mischief glinted behind them. He placed the bouquet in her hands and she thanked him. She sniffed the flowers and closed her eyes. They smelled really sweet.
“I’m Arthur. It’s nice to meet you finally. Vincent’s right. You do have a very alluring scent,” He smirked.
Vicki tensed and Vincent shot Arthur a look.
“Arthur,” The count warned.
Arthur released Vicki’s hand and gave an airy laugh.
“I won’t bite,” He teased.
Vincent frowned slightly.
“Brother,” He eyed Arthur. “Could you please keep your thoughts to yourself?”
Arthur’s lips trembled, a devilish mischievous look in his eyes.
“That’s enough from you, Arthur.” Turning to Vicki, Theodorus gave a gentle smile. “Vicki, it’s a pleasure to meet you. I’m Theo. I can’t tell you how happy I am to finally meet Vincent’s girlfriend.”
Vicki turned crimson and she smiled shyly back. Vincent’s eyes crinkled. He turned to his last brother.
“Vicki, this is my fourth oldest brother, Issac.”
Issac eyed Vicki cooly.
“Nice to meet you,” He said curtly.
Vicki ignored his tone- Vincent had warned her that Issac took time to warm up to strangers.
“It’s nice to meet everyone. Thank you for welcoming me to your wonderful home.”
Vincent rubbed her back.
“I’m glad everyone has finally met. Shall we move to the living room now?”
The count smiled.
“Of course.”
-
The latest blockbuster movie played on the big screen TV silently.
“So, Vicki, what do you think about becoming vampires like us?” Arthur asked.
Napoleon moved to elbow Arthur but he caught it with his hand.
“Arthur,” The count warned.
Arthur shrugged.
“What? I’m only asking the question everybody wants to know.”
“Don’t,” Vincent whispered.
Arthur laughed.
“Speak up, Vincent. I can’t-”
“I said, don’t!” Vincent shouted.
The whole room went silent.
“Vincent,” Issac’s tone was surprisingly gentle. He reached out to touch Vincent’s shoulder.
Theo growled and bared his fangs at Arthur.
“You just can’t keep your fucking mouth shout can you, you idiot!”
Arthur wore an expression of shock on his face.
“Vincent...”
Vincent closed his eyes and his face was one of extreme frustration.
“Of course I want to be with Vicki forever but I don’t do damn her to a life of eternity that’s filled with so much pain. But selfish as it might, I do want her and only her but it’s not something I want to think about as it hurts me,” Vincent exhaled shakily. It was the first time Vicki had ever seen him so vulnerable, so human.
She brought his fingers to her lips and kissed it.
“Vincent, I know it pains you to think about my soul but I want to assure you that I don’t care about anything else except you and i’m ready to accept any consequences regardless as long as i’m with you and only you.”
Vincent’s beautiful blue eyes widened and he nuzzled her shoulder, smiling warmly.
“I’m happy you want to be with me but I’m still not going to put you through that,” He whispered.
Vicki said nothing. In her heart, she knew what she wanted. She wanted him. To be with him forever. She didn’t care how and she didn’t care what she had to do. She caressed his cheek and he leaned into it.
“I’m sorry, Vincent,” Arthur’s voice came. It was a rare sincerity.
Vicki jumped slightly. She had forgotten that they were also in the room- they had been so still and silent. Vincent eyed Arthur cooly.
“I forgive you. Only because you’re my brother.”
Arthur’s blue eyes widened, and his tender expression was one the brothers did not see often.
The count clapped his hands.
“Now, now. Let’s not let anymore arguments get in the way.” He turned to Vicki and smiled.
“Vicki, we’ll be having a little baseball game tomorrow. Would you like to come?”
Issac arched an eyebrow.
“She won’t be able to play though.”
Vicki’s forehead puckered.
“Isn’t there a thunderstorm tomorrow?”
Vincent laughed.
“It’ll be the perfect day then.”
-
“How was that? Your very first vampire baseball game as umpire,” Vincent chuckled.
Thunder rumbled and Arthur pitched. The ball was a blur of white, almost impossibly fast. When Napoleon swung his bat, it was like he had struck a metal plate- the sound was deafening.
“I quite enjoyed it! However I don’t think i’ll be able to play with you guys, for now.”
Vincent’s usually angelic face hardened. His eyebrows were furrowed and his lips were pressed into a tight line.
“What do you mean for now?”
Vicki flinched slightly at his icy tone but steeled her eyes with determination.
“I want to be with you forever, Vincent.” She said, staring into his angel eyes.
Vincent’s eyelashes dropped and he pursed his lips. He didn’t know what to say. He didn’t want her to damn her to a long and sin-filled life but at the same time, he did want to be with her forever. He hadn’t met anyone like her, he hadn’t loved anyone like her.
He opened his mouth to speak but stopped when he saw what had flashed in Arthur’s vision. He immediately whipped around to see that his brothers were already flanking them.
Arthur’s normally joyful face was twisted uncomfortably, his devil-may-care attitude gone.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t... I wasn’t-“
Theodorus pressed his hand to Arthur’s shoulder.
“It’s fine. Are they only passing?”
Arthur shook his head.
“They were but they heard us and they want to play.”
The count had a look of utter seriousness on his face.
“Have they...” He didn’t have to continue and Vincent’s expression turned icy.
“Yes. It’s too late to leave.” He turned to where 3 figures had appeared from the forest.
They glided across the grass plains like they were ice skating.
Vincent gently pushed Vicki behind him, pulling her hand so that it wrapped around his waist. He in turn wrapped his left arm around her. He half-turned, smiling at her.
“It’ll be okay. We’re here. I’m here.”
Vicki nodded slowly, noting that his smile didn’t quite reach his eyes.
The strangers approached them cautiously. The one in the middle wore a thin smile. His eyes were a dark amber and he was huge. He towered the other 2. When he spoke, his voice was deep and husky.
“I am Leonardo. This is William and Mozart. My... friends and I were wondering if we could join you? We had just finished hunting when we heard you guys.”
Vincent tensed slightly when he heard the word ‘hunt’. He tried focusing on the thoughts of the trio. He needed to be ready the moment one of them had the idea to harm Vicki. He knew Arthur was doing the same. A soothing feeling suddenly enveloped everyone like a warm blanket and Vicki turned to Napoleon. He gave her a wink and she lowered her head, thankful.
The count smiled.
“Of course. You’re more than welcomed. My younger brothers Vincent and Theo were just leaving anyway.”
Leonardo raised his eyebrows slightly when he heard ‘brother’.
“Well? Shall we play?” Issac grinned widely. His fangs had protruded out slightly. It was a warning.
Leonardo’s eyes flashed dangerously for a moment before he chuckled.
“Let’s play.”
Vincent leaned into Vicki’s ear.
“Come on. Let’s go.”
Vicki nodded slightly. She hugged Vincent has they made their way to the car. When they walked by the one called William, his nostrils flared and he spun around quickly.
“You smell really good, human.” There was a crazed look in his mis-coloured eyes. He leaned in to take a sniff and Vincent immediately pulled Vicki back.
Vincent snarled, baring his fangs. His angel eyes were replaced by a type of feral wildness Vicki had never seen before.
Vincent’s chest let out a low rumble that Vicki could feel as she clung to Vincent. She rubbed his back.
William sprung once again and Vincent grabbed his collar, throwing him as far as he could. Theo and Napoleon immediately tackled the other two vampires as they bared their fangs and leapt.
“Let me have a taste of her! Just a little taste!” William screamed.
He hurdled towards Vincent once again, his fangs bared and ready to strike. Vincent stepped back, allowing Arthur to grab William by the neck. Vicki looked as William thrashed around, unable to move from Arthur’s surprisingly iron grip. Arthur tightened his grip.
“Leave now or i’ll kill him,” He said coldly, getting the attention of the other two vampires.
Leonardo’s face was scratched up and he was pinned by Theo. Mozart growled, his fangs inches from Napoleon’s face.
Finally, Leonardo relaxed into Theo’s grip.
“Fine, fine. We’ll leave. Come on, William. That’s enough.”
Arthur’s grip tightened and there were cracks in William’s pale neck.
Mozart’s eyes widened.
“William!”
“Yield!” Arthur growled.
William let out a long sigh and stopped resisting. Arthur dragged him towards his coven mates and threw him down, a distance from Vicki.
Mozart broke free of Napoleon’s grip and Theo stepped away from Leonardo.
The count narrowed his eyes.
“I’m sorry but I guess there’ll be no game after all. Vicki is with us and if we ever see you around again, we will not hesitate to kill you.”
Leonardo smiled thinly.
“I apologise that it turned out this way. Your hostility is understandable. We’ll go now. Come on, William, Mozart.”
Vincent eyed William. He understood William’s thirst. Vicki had the sweetest scent he had ever smelled. He turned around and wrapped her in his arms. He inhaled deeply, allowing her smell to envelope him. He ignored the thirst that screamed from his throat.
“Vincent?” Vicki stared into his pained eyes.
He lifted her chin and pressed his lips to hers. He felt like his whole body had been lit on fire. He kissed her fiercely, not caring that his brothers were looking. He needed to feel her.
When he finally broke away, her lips were slightly swollen.
“I’ll never let anything happen to you,” He promised.
Vicki smiled and cupped his cheek.
“I love you,”She breathed as she brought him down for a kiss.
A distance away, his brothers smiled for their sunshine had finally found his own sun.
