gonna make a post vagueing mutuals but it's ok bc im vagueing literally the majority of them so don't take it personally. it's such a pet peeve for me when people do the “mutual on the dash” thing when someone in their mutual circle put it on their dash. like the whole point of “mutual on the dash” is that it's so fun to see a mutual being put on your dash by someone who doesn't know your mutual. and to be like omg you don't know them but i do!!! it's so fun seeing my mutual being put on my dash by someone whom i didn't expect to show me my mutual's post :) what is thee point of saying “mutual on the dash!!” if it was reblogged by someone who both you and your mutual are mutuals with !!!

hey, i often see you talk about dreamtale and i've got a question that's been on my mind for literal years. i know you're not the original creator and i've gathered you have your own version of the AU, but i konda just want to hear your thoughts on this because i'm genuinely curious. please let me know if it's an inappropriate question or if you don't want to answer or you have answered it before that's completely okay and i'll totally understand.

so the question i've always had is, why does dreamtale have 2 sanses(?), as in, as far as i was aware (which i admit is not much, i haven't kept up a lot with UT or the AU community the last few years) there's dream sans and nightmare sans. my (possibly outdated) understanding of dreamtale is that it's an undertale AU focusing on the story of two brothers. and since in canon sans pretty notoriously already has a brother, i've always wondered the deal with making his brother another sans rather than papyrus.

i wonder if it was because of character dynamics, the thing the internet had for AU sanses when the original AU was created, or some other reason. i was just wondering, if you're up for it, you could just share your thoughts on it. the question has been on my mind again lately since i see your posts about dreamtale on my dash and i'd ask the original creator, but i've got them blocked and i can't really remember why since it was a long time ago, but i imagine it was probably for a good reason.

as I said before, i completely understand if you don't want to answer. this is just me being curious lol. thank you!

if you look at dreamtale, it really basically has nothing to do with undertale except for the fact that dream and nightmare are sanses!

which is fine to have sanses be the focus, in my opinion, sans enjoyers get too much shit for that.

but yeah, i do think it could be done more in relation to undertale. but that really was never joku's focus

from the way they've acted for years, it's clear that they only made dream and nm sanses bc it gave them the most attention.

and it did because with how dog shit the writing is there's honestly no way it would've picked up if you asked me, even if chapter 1 has a lot of potential in my eyes :p

Lando goes to Daniel's ranch on a whim, dando is special. Lando goes to Carlos' sister's huge society wedding, carlando is special. Lando's family likes Lando which makes carlando special. Lando and Daniel share mutual friends outside of racing which makes dando special. like, it's the same dynamic just rotated around at different times. I enjoy both ships to a certain degree but I'm kind of mystified at ppl choosing to see them as super deep and meaningful and worth fighting over.

side note g o d do I fully embrace that ppl who do these ship competitions and larrying nonsense have ZERO interest in landoscar bc we love Lily and support Lando in his many probable conquests - and bc the Lando and Oscar dynamic isn't a big bromance for the cameras and has no fake gay for fangirl consumption.

like yes pls absolutely consider landoscar inferior to carlando if it means they stay away from inventing conspiracy theories and saying they "just have a bad feeling" about Lily and start attributing everything Lando has achieved to his teammate instead of himself.

i have this issue where like. i feel like my art is weird. not even like weird in an intentional kinda way  or a ‘cringe’ way or whatever judt sometimes i feel like its weird. doesnt quite translate whatever my ideas were or even make much sense to anyone that isnt me. i feel like i spend. so much time like. isolated from other people  and ill just be making art and coming up with ideas in this weird feedback loop with my brain that it just keeps getting distorted from what the idea originated from and starts only making sense to me. and i have no clue if any of what im saying even makes sense or is even true its just something i think about a lot and kinda? worry abt sometimes too? i feel like this kinda stems back from . okay so i have this massive bin in my room where i tend to put old sketchbooks and stuff in and this goes all the way back to when i first started really grtting into art as a hobby, and i like judt sitting down for a few hours sometimes and looking thru a bunch of shit in there. but sometimes i come across stuff from where i was drawing in one particular style for a while anf it was just startingn to like… become more and more distorted? this ties into a whole other side tangent i could go on abt but basically i have this problem with Art Styles where i feel like i have to follow certain rules and criteria with the stylization blah blah blah anyways so my original point js that after id been sticking with a certain way of stylizing thinggs for long enough it starts to become more exaggerated, and slowly ljke unrecognizable from whatever the fuck its supposed to represent or what it was originally supposed to look like. like uhh for a while i drew eyes in this very particular way where they were just little dashes. but sometimes id draw the dashed a bit closet than normally or kinda tilting towards each other and i though it looked cute so i kept doing this intentionally. until it would get to the point where in some drawings you couldnt even see the eyes. theyre judt one weird mark on the page. or sometimes i would have one eye a bit higher than the other and id keep doing that until theyre super misaligned. and this is jsut a really mundane example thrres others i feel whre like really bad looking back. like ‘how did anyone think this was even passable’ levels of bad.. and just. idk i have no clue where im going with this post its just this stuff has been bothering me for a while now and just. i dontknow. this isnt even entirely what im talking abt there weird patterns in my art constantly and its not in an interesting way its just. why do i do that. why is that Like That. and like this isnt somethingi should worry about so much but again i just think abt it a lot!!!!

ok, let me try to summarize this... (i won't include ALL the hints i dropped because that would be. uhh. crazy. lol. just the important ones!)

you can see a documentary of all the asks here - except for day 7 (thanks navi!! mwah mwah)

there are a few clues dropped in here and there as to what's causing mei's (who is my sona in this story basically) memory loss. the pills were a distraction (they really were for caffeine deficiency). but if you go through some asks and my posts for the last 2 days (albedo taking out mei's vision from the drawer + them taking it somewhere else), you'll notice that it's actually the loss of her vision that's causing it (side note, i was cheeky and gave yall hint on the vision poll - there's a hidden link on the underline of the emoji. you're welcome <3)

as for what happened on day 7... there were many things that happened because things were escalating really fast, and basically one of you tried to save mei AND almost succeeded. this happened on the last ask of day 7, where mei confronts albedo for the pills (because her friends - aka everyone - were basically saying that the pills were the issue here). pushed up against the wall, albedo decides to subdue her and flees to another location because he knows the lab isn't safe.

so after all that, we transition to the afterparty. where basically albedo and dorian take over the blog, because mei is mostly unconscious. as for why she's unconscious, it was because of fentanyl, which bedo actually referenced here before.

on the afterparty intro post, you can see that there are codes that you can actually try to decipher. but i'll spare you the headache and gives you the result. it says:

1 ask = 10m Σ 2800m time is ticking

this is basically a countdown to mei waking up. the total is 2800 minutes (aka 48 hours - so that's 2 days). 1 ask (only valid ones though, not the shitposts. which you can see, some posts have the '10' tag and some don't) will minus 10 minutes off the clock. and this runs in real time. the pinned post had the countdown and the hour, so you could actually track from there.

the gimmick is that, albedo will keep adding into this 'clock'. hence you see some posts with '+240' and all that. so it was actually everyone's objective to keep sending asks and waking mei up. i think only a few people realized this lol

so! that's the mechanics out of the way. lore-wise, remember: the missing vision was the reason mei lost her memories. albedo/dorian took that vision out of the drawer somewhere. so your goal was to actually locate where they were hiding and give mei's vision back to her.

now about the 'timelines' - basically what happened was that, since everyone was doing rp on their own characters and situations, it wasn't possible at this point to make them happen in one world. hence, i dropped hints about different timelines being at work here.

think of it as a parallel universe, right? one decision leads to another, and had you made a different decision, it would have been a branch of a story on its own.

but considering all that, the main storyline is still the same. everyone's goal is still the same, and albedo's actions don't differ much from all the timelines. hence i kept trying to steer you all toward where they were (it was mingyun village. see if you can spot all the little hints i dropped lol).

the thing is that almost no one really realized about the missing vision until later on, and even then no one asked where it was. so i couldn't fit the opportunity to give you clues ;w; (but on risu's last ask, i did give you a revelation - it's actually on albedo. yeah.. he had it on him the entire time lol)

so uh yeah. anyway. i probably missed a lot of things. but keep sending stuff so i can. rehash it out and geek out about all the hidden lore of this massive au? please lol

how i got into them: see it's a long, long, long story........ was really excited when they were rumoured to have their little snack shop show/be debuting because i liked hak from broduce. i made another twt account just specifically for the to-be-tbz stanning purposes. saw hwall fantakens n i was like Oh Whos that. nd then suddenly i stopped going on that account n kinda forgot? abt them? i would listen to every release they'd put out but without much more bc as much as i LOVED boy. song of the century. i absolutely hated giddy up so i was like well too bad :/ rip my interest in them :/ and i think i disliked right here at first as well (i love her now. shes my beloved.) but i was absolutely INSANE about no air shes the best song ever i've been in love with her from the first second i heard her. so i ended up watching the showcase stage n someone caught my eye (i ended up finding out it was hak which was rlly funny it was a . destiny kinda moment). i think it was around that time that i saw their right here era weekly idol appearance. got a small crush on sunwoo. but then nothing much more happened rlly? i still kept watching their mvs whenever they'd release one and i Was a p big fan of their music!! and . i must have seen some more content at Some point before rtk because i remember already having a better idea of who each of them were before rtk started but. it was rlly during rtk that i rlly got Into them . but like . i just upped my adhd med dose last week, and i really do think it's making slightly more of a difference (i was on the baby-est of doses 2 start) BUT i am. Not Gr8 at Focusing The Focus yet lol the other day i intended 2 do homework for 30min but instead went on a 2hr wikipedia rabbit hole dive on random linguistics topics that i don't even know enough abt 2 understand the technical parts of the articles lmao (who tf knows abt language isolates lmao still not me)

Rise of Flynn Rider - THOUGHTS

THE PROMISED LONGER POST ON THE RISE OF FLYNN RIDER- spoiler warning!

Ok so first off, a very brief summary: the book centers on Eugene and Arnie (Lance), childhood best friends. The orphanage they've grown up in is financially struggling, under threat by a crooked tax collector, and they're both aging out of the system; the only clue Eugene has to his parents is a letter from the woman who left him there, which is signed with a ~mysterious symbol~. When a traveling circus run by the Baron (yes, that Baron) passes through town and Eugene learns of a possible lead on his past, the two boys reinvent themselves, join up, and eventually end up entangled in a scheme to steal from the King and Queen of Corona. 

I won't lie, I enjoyed this one a lot- it was a fun read, very cozy to curl up with, and even with some contradictions, it felt like a novel that was derivative of the series and set in that world. There are a lot of cameos and references, enough that I think most TTS fans will find something they like to nibble on.

Like I said in my earlier post abt the prologue and first few chapters, I'm so happy that Lance got a role alongside Eugene- he's definitely a secondary character to Eugene’s main, and he does get sidelined somewhat, but it's charming to see his friendship with Eugene and his growing passion for cooking. 

'I didn't expect anything, so I'm more delighted and pleasantly surprised than genuinely unhappy with the execution' is a running theme with this book for me and basically the tl;dr of this write-up.

There are soo many cameos and little treats- I get the impression Calonita didn't have the most complete knowledge of the series, but her chats with Chris and interest in the series’ writing definitely show. King Edmund, the Stabbingtons, all of the pub thugs, Weasel, Stalyan, and the Baron all make appearances, and we get cameos from Cap, Maximus, Pascal's mother, and even Cass gets a name drop. Several series-exclusive locations are also mentioned by name- Vardaros, the Spire, and the Forest of No Return.

I'm not immune to the fannish hit of 'hey! I understand that reference!' and I really enjoyed hunting for easter eggs, so even if the presence of the pub thugs in the Baron's crew, or the boys stumbling on Rapunzel's tower in one scene and making nothing of it (yea that happened) is a lil questionable, it made me smile and I can't be mad.

I would just describe this book as 'comfy'.

(That said, I'm a little unsure who all those references are for- I feel like if you hadn't seen the series, you'd lack context and some details would be meaningless, but if you had, I think you might long for more depth and exploration...)

Structure & Progression

Here's the part where I start criticizing the book aimed at middle and elementary schoolers lmao

It's a v short book, but the plot progression still feels a little scattered- it didn’t feel quite like a heist OR a mystery. The subplot that takes up a lot of focus is actually interpersonal conflict between Lance and Eugene- and they reconcile, but not after spending much of the book in a standoff due to a misunderstanding/'liar revealed' trope.

One of Eugene's motivations for joining the circus is spotting a man with a mark on his arm that matches the one from his letter working there, and believing he'll be able to learn more abt his parents from him. He doesn't disclose this to Lance right away, and when it comes out later on, he's upset that Eugene didn't tell him- he feels tricked, and like Eugene's prioritizing his biological family over their bond. I had a hard time with this, b/c I honestly think Eugene could've literally said to Lance, 'hey, joining this circus is a great opportunity to travel, make money, send some back to the orphanage, AND I found something about my parents, will you come with me?' and Lance still would've jumped on it. Later on, there's also another similar miscommunication that deepens the rift. 

It feels like manufactured drama, and I would've loved a book of the two of them just being buds, bouncing off each other, and trying to unravel the mysteries of the DK symbol and the Baron's ulterior motives together. Lance's fears of being left behind by his friend absolutely could've surfaced without the misunderstandings, especially the closer they got to the truth. (And I don't think that'd have been dissimilar to the unused 'Trial' episode concept and flashback.)

The pacing itself... meanders. After the boys complete an initiation mission to get a hold of a special key for the Baron, time passes (two weeks in-story) and there's some slice of life as they learn the ropes, get inducted into a lifestyle of thieving (it’s revealed the circus is a front for a crime ring), and get to know the Baron's crew.

I liked these parts and would've kept them in a longer book! But maybe there could've been some fine-tuning here so big events (Eugene stealing for the first time, the heist, the meeting with the mysterious Man with the Mark) weren’t so one-and-done. There are several points where nothing's really happening because the characters can't quite connect with each other, or they're waiting around for an opportunity passively, and that makes for a frustrating exp for me as a reader.

There were also lot of elements I thought were getting set up to come into play later, but not a lot of follow through? The folk hero Lance Archer is mentioned several times and has wanted posters, but we never meet him in the flesh. The Man with the Mark is revealed to be a former member of the Brotherhood(!) named Vedis(!!), but he isn't seen again after Eugene speaks with him... once. (More on this later this post is getting so long omg) 

The Baron’s plan is revealed to be stealing a reward offered for the lost princess when it’s on display to the public during a festival. Eugene and Lance balk b/c stealing doesn’t sit well with them, especially when it’s from what are ultimately a family trying to find their lost child- they decide to do the right thing by foiling the scheme/stealing it back and returning it to the royals. It goes a bit pear-shaped and they’re caught, but are forgiven and face no consequences after explaining, other than being ousted from the circus/crime ring and making enemies of the Baron. Eugene hasn’t given up on finding the DK, but he realizes he already has a family in Lance, and that’s the most important thing; the two resolve to travel the world and have adventures together.

I want to make another post on it, but at the least it feels like a foregone conclusion given we know ‘Flynn Rider’ goes on to become a renown thief who steals the crown of the lost princess- that’s literally the plot of the movie, and being a dashing rogue is Flynn’s defining trait- so even aside from questionable ideas about wealth, class, and morality, the novel’s ending doesn’t fit what’s firmly established about his character, and I think big fans of Eugene might have an even harder time with that then me. 

(I’m very suspicious that there might’ve been some executive meddling in an attempt to soften young Eugene’s character, and send a more palatable/upstanding message to children- it feels like Disney editing the old SW films to show Han didn’t shoot first.)

It’s def one of those novels where you can take some elements you like and leave others, but overall I’d still rly rec it for series fans! I’ve been buzzing and what-iffing about it for a few days, and I got some tasty tidbits on the characters and nods to the series, which is exactly what I wanted out of it.

And maybe it’s a funky take, but honestly I want to think of this book as the beginning of an alternate timeline where Lance and Eugene got out of crime earlier, Eugene got a clue abt his heritage by chance, and it changed his course. I think embracing the retcons and contradictions to canon makes for an interesting angle, and you’ll enjoy it more if you don’t take it too seriously.
