The red-headed cashier secures the door behind them. Just the two of them.

Pilfered snacks burst from Mickey’s pockets.

“Lovely. Gotta spend my final moments with you,” the boy seethes.

But his cheeks flush. Mickey swears he spies a glint in his eyes, even in the dark cellar.

Dark. Alone. Desperate.

Mickey lunges, tongue first, and thankfully, Ian responds in kind. Because fuck, it’s the end of the world, he’s not going out without knowing what it could have been like.

EASY. The Stgiomedua Gigantea, aka Phantom Jellyfish! They're so elusive, that theyve only been seen a staggeringly finite amount of times, but are believed to inhabit all the oceans except the Arctic! They are quite beautiful, and are my favorite species of giant jellyfish. It has a wikipedia page if you want to know more.

"19. Have you ever been to the ocean?"

I've swam in the ocean several times at the beaches in Florida when I used to live there, and it was fun everytime. My dad almost got pinched by a crab once LOL

"30. Stupidest aquatic animal name?" Do seabirds count? Biggest example I got is one of the African Penguin's vernacular names; THE JACKASS PENGUIN.

Fishing, it transpired, was quite a production. First of all, one needed quite a lot of equipment for an activity that Sirius had always assumed only needed a stick, a hook, and some fish food. But it turned out one could acquire many different kinds of sticks, as well as different kinds of hooks, and don’t get Sirius started on the different kinds of bait. 

No, really. Don’t. He didn’t know anything. 

Not that James seemed to know much more; James spent a quarter of an hour agonizing over whether worms or grasshopper were a better bait for the type of pond they had arrived at, and whether the flies he had brought—which Sirius noted were not regular houseflies, but instead fluffy bits of feather and wire attached to hooks—were the right ones for the kinds of fish they hoped to catch. 

“What kind of fish are we hoping to catch?” Sirius asked. 

“Oh, you know,” James said, and waved a hand vaguely. “Trout. Salmon. Perch.” He paused, looking thoughtful. “Walleye.” 

Sirius frowned. “What’s walleye?” 

“A kind of eel. Look here,” James said, and handed him a bright pink feathery hook, and half a worm. “Spear this for me, would you?”

hope i'm not overstepping or anything, but i just wanted to say the one thing i've always really appreciated about your splatoon art is that you don't unsanitize dedf1sh. you show them pre-sanitization, of course, but you never undo that once they're out of the metro. they just have to figure out how to live with it, and that means quite a lot to me. i hope you have a good day!

Aw, thanks! Yeah idk, it's kinda just... Yeah I want to see Ded in a better place and having a good life post-sanitization. But you don't need to "cure" them for that? Idk it never really even occurred to me to unsanitize them. I don't think a full sanitization is something that can be undone. It's never going to go away completely, just one of those things where you can find ways to manage it better, whether that's through medical care, help from loved ones, etc...

I dunno how to articulate it, but I'm glad to hear it resonates with you.

Why is everyone so hung up on NoA's use of the word "inkling????" I've seen so many posts lately that are like "it doesn't make sense that the squid people are called inklings since octolings use ink too so it should be a general term and the squid people should be called squidlings!!!" and like. Yeah. That's true I guess. I dunno, I never really particularly cared about it that much, it's kind of a nitpick. And like—something about "squidling" as a word feels super weird and awkward to me and I don't entirely know why? I think it has something to do with the consonants? Or maybe it's my imagination, who knows. Either way I don't entirely get why people have been getting so hung up on it lately.

just spent the night with my flatmates, first time hanging out with a group of cis men. everything was fine. they're woke and accepting and cool. i gotta say i HATE IT when people try to put english language on splatoon songs. they AREN’T SPEAKING ENGLISH. they are speaking inklish or octarian or salmon….. salmonese? idk what you’d call that one POINT IS IT ISN’T ENGLISH

Life still ain’t fair to me lately BUT! I do want to at least get part of my sword of the sea brainrot essay out there which also happens to involve my usual Journey brainrot.

 I know it’s mostly that I’ve basically become a Journey scavenger at this point, but I do find it highly suspicious that Journey’s name popped up in the trailer under the “visionary artists’ behind” part. because while it’s fairly common knowledge that Giant Squid was formed by employees splintering off of Thatgamecompany after Journey was made, even in GS’s trailers for their first game Abzu, Journey was not mentioned. Nor was Journey mentioned in trailers for The Pathless, just Abzu. But here, in a game that opens up with a Desert and mentions in the summary of “multiple cultures” its name pops up.

Now I’m not going to kid myself, as GS does not own the rights to Journey, that the wayfarers we know and love will just show up as they appear in their own game. However I do suspect that there’s at least going to be some form of them in SotS - whether that’s in a simple easter egg or repurposed designs/structures from old concepts from Journey’s development. I’m honestly not going to expect much.

No matter the slimness of it though, hooo boy does the brain go brrrrrrrrrrr at the thought!
