David Bowie - Let’s Dance: Are there any songs you’ve picked up from your F/O or their media, or because they remind you of them?

Classic and rock music mostly reminds me of him since I think he would enjoy those types of music. That and musicals. I will say the song The Longest Time by Billy Joel (ironically one of the songs titles on the ask game itself) makes me think of him a lot. And my ship with him haha.

Daryl Hall & John Oates - Out of Touch: What conceptual or intangible things do you associate with your F/O? (eg., colors, music, scents, times, etc)

I like to associate Scratch with the smell of sea salt due to his fascination with nautical decor he has in his doll house home. That and the smell of fried food. And of course for colors it’s blue and teal. Also theatre in general reminds me of him, especially since he very dramatic and how when the curtains move to open and close for a show makes me think of his movements sometimes. And marshmallows because he looks really squishy like one!

🎯- is there anything your s/i is incredibly good at? or incredibly bad at?

Emmett is incredibly good at memorization and finding patterns! They don’t have a photographic memory but they remember things by association. That means that they only have to trigger one key memory for the rest of the little details to come flooding back! (This is similar to how I memorize things irl!) Also, Emmett is remarkably good at finding patterns, it’s not a conscious thing but they are good at it nonetheless. Though sometimes it means they see patterns where there aren’t any at all!

Emmett is incredibly bad at working through their own emotions! While you would think a psychologist would be great at that, Emmett isn’t. Sure, he can analyze other peoples motives, intentions and emotions really well but for whatever reason he just sucks at the whole thing when it comes to himself!

Umm I usually give my self inserts the same skills as me but like, they’re better at it than I actually am lol like for example, I’m decently smart, I think, but Emmett is really really smart! And I do archery recreationally and am again, decent. Emmett used to do archery competitively and started much younger than I did irl so they have more experience and skill!! Do you see the pattern??

It was sort of a rocky start, seeing as our meeting starts out with my s/i and Stretch both being trapped in texas.battle.land,,,, Chop had interest in my s/i immediately, and like how Bub.ba doesnt wanna kill Stretch Chop does the same for me,,,, but yada yada my s/i slowly falls for Chop,,, yada yada we become lovers overtime 💜 aaaand like for me irl (s/i lore stuff aside) its gonna be changing in the spring time, since thats when i decide to marry him U//w//U hehe sometime in April possibly? i have a date in mind as well 👀

wellll it kinda depends tbh. since the 3 of us are always together then if min was upset me & ryan would probably try to sit w him try to talk w him abt how he feels if he wants. id maybe put on a record ik he loves to try to make him feel better :-] we can just sit on the floor together w some sodas and chips and eventually itll be like nothing bad ever happened :-]

if it was ryan... mins approach might not always be correct for ryan... depending on min i might have to go alone to ryan. but if it was us both ik tbh itd also have to be a talk it out kinda moment. id hold ryans hand and listen to him and offer to take him out to do something fun if he wants! if he doesnt feel like leaving the house me and min can run over and rent a movie for us to watch at home and buy some takeout for dinner :-]

of course this all kinda depends on how bad theyre feeling tbh

Currently reading: mme putiphar, started Gaspard de la Nuit since Cam recced it, it’s ideal if for whatever reason you cannot handle a long book, (and very good in its own merits). i really like the narrative frame of stories written by the devil + the grotesquerie, the portrayal of the brutality of aristocrats (still not over messire jean), the division of the arts in either a callot or a rembrandt cosmovision (which i find pretty funny bc lots of ppl would class both of them as grotesques) and learning that there is a black virgin statue in dijon, when I associated black religious images with the latin american baroque era.

Last watched: a screening of Los delincuentes. Really unique philosophical slowburn heist comedy, and one of last year’s best. I am gonna mention that the soundtrack features one of my fave ever pieces by piazzolla (not one of his better know pieces so it was a wonderful surprise) and it was great to listen to that in cinema quality audio.

Currently obsessed with: pinnipeds, hands of glory, overcoming drawing challenges, ancient musical instruments, gerard de nerval, inca skull surgery.

I was named after the old testament matriarch. But my dad did also have a gerbil named 'Sarah' when he was a kid. She ate her babies.

Oh gosh, I think like two or three months ago? I need to watch an emotional movie or something...

No.

Do you use sarcasm a lot?

I realize goofy earnestness can be a lot funnier--like my humor can have a decent amount of sarcasm, but I like leaning into the ridiculousness of things more.

What’s the first thing you notice about people?

Probably clothes? Or also if you're coughing. I'm fucking hyperalert about that shit after the pandemic and with an immunocompromised mom. I know seasonal allergies exist but also if you sound like you're dying from postnasal drip and not wearing a mask in my library you WILL get a side-eye.

I like scary movies with happy endings! But also weird fucked up ambiguous endings. But I do like happy endings!

I'm pretty good at trivia!!! I have like... a pretty insane level of memorization for utterly useless things. I remember Simpsons' dialogues word-for-word, loads of song lyrics... at the end of the world, when our online archives have collapsed, I will be the Reverend Mother Bene Gesserit, but instead of the memories of all of my female ancestors it will be 14 metric tons of Jackshit I Thought Was Funny.

they made it complicated (on accident) :) but, Murdoc, technically!

🐵: What is something your F/O does around you that they won’t do around anyone else?

Murdoc allows himself to be vulnerable, both physically and psychologically, around Emmett. He doesn't keep his weapons on him when he's in their apartment anymore. He lays with Emmett in bed, allowing for close bodily contact, sometimes skin on skin. He trusts them not to pull a knife on him. But more so, he can cry around them. He had a deeply troubled childhood that is still enshrouded in mystery for the most part to Emmett but they know enough to know it wasn't fun. Sometimes he wakes up with tears streaming down his cheeks. Emmet doesn't say anything, just holds him. He can be vulnerable. Its new to him. But welcome.

🐦: One of you is sick! How do you take care of each other?

(aaa i hardly ever get sick and i hc Murdoc to be similar in that regard so I'll be writing about Emmett dealing with his Monthly Horror and how Murdoc takes care of him then!)

CW: vague discussion of periods, gender dysphoria, tooth rotting fluff

For a cis guy, Murdoc is surprisingly aware of how to handle Emmett's monthly! He pulls out all the stops each time, chocolate and warm heated pads. he even got Emmett one of those stuffed animals you can put in the microwave to heat up! (Its a lynx!!) Now Murdoc is always gentle around Emmett, especially early in their relationship when he's afraid he'll scare them, given his history and reputation for violence. But when they're at their most vulnerable, in pain and emotional turmoil thanks to their monthly as well as the gender dysphoria that comes with it, Murdoc is unfathomably devoted to making them as comfortable as possible! He has kinda mastered the art of casually slipping into conversation gender affirming stuff for Emmett during these times.

"What's wrong with Emmett?"

"Oh, my boyfriend? They're feeling a tad under the weather is all. He'll share more if he feels like it.."

And a major plus is that Murdoc knows all the best ways to clean blood out of anything.. ;)

3. Is your F/O ever willing to put themselves in harm’s way for you? If so, describe what you predict or imagine, or a time when they have before.

Absolutely. Without a doubt. Murdoc wouldn’t say he would “die for Emmett” but that’s only bc he’s that confident he could kill whoever was threatening their safety lol. He would absolutely, however, put himself in danger if it meant keeping Emmett far far away from any danger!

6. Has there ever been a REALLY big argument between you and your F/O? What was it about? How did you two resolve it?

No not really, actually!! They get on quite well and are quick to talk about their feelings! For a murderous assassin and a mentally ill autistic guy they have a really healthy relationship!! (Not that the occasional argument is unhealthy per say!)

11. Does your F/O have any creative hobbies? If so, what are they? If you have similar hobbies, do you and your F/O encourage each other or work together at all?

I can’t remember for certain if there’s any canon evidence for this but I headcanon Murdoc as being an artist!! He draws realistic pencil drawings. They didn’t let him have any sharp objects, including pencils, in prison but he can work even with crayons and create some truly masterful stuff!! Emmett also draws, albeit with a much cartoonier style! The two have not worked together on any art, it just hasn’t occurred to them to do that! But I can see them doing that together!! They more so like that parallel play style where they draw together but separately, just existing near each other while drawing!!

Murdoc rarely abandons his all black wardrobe, so maybe something like this

I imagine he'd wear a (nicer than his usual) black turtleneck shirt tucked in at the waist with a black blazer, slacks and dress shoes!

As for Emmett, I imagine he'd wear something along the lines of this:

not necessarily either of these outfits in particular but these vibes if you know what I mean? But yea, floral, pastel menswear is probably the avenue Emmett would go down for a date outfit!!

smitten — was it easy for the people around you and f/o to figure out you liked each other? did they get involved in you getting together at all?

THIS ONE IS SO FUNNY TO ME BC YES- in a way!!!

So, Murdoc starts out by (after having broken out of supermax ofc) kidnapping Emmett and he does this every so often, eventually it getting to be a weekly thing. And the first time he does this, everybody involved, save for Murdoc ofc, is understandably freaked out- serial killer/assassin kidnaps former prison psychologist? yea, its not a heartwarming scenario.

BUT, after awhile, everyone slowly starts to realize that Murdoc really doesn't mean Emmett any harm and he actually hasn't laid a finger on them, truly! The evidence becomes undeniable when Emmett starts coming into work the next day (after being 'kidnapped' by Murdoc the prior night) all goo-goo eyed and giddy, in a better mood than ever.

Bozer is the first to point out that something seems off about the 'kidnappings' and Murdoc's intentions regarding Emmett. Now, he's the first to be terrified of and suspicious of Murdoc (understandably too, since Murdoc broke into his and Mac's shared house with the intent to kill Mac, the first time they met), but Bozer can tell something's different about this situation...

He finally puts the pieces together when Emmett mentions offhandedly the lovely lights Murdoc put up in the room he regularly takes Emmett to when he 'abducts' them.

Bozer, upon realizing what is going on, (a possible romantic relationship blooming between one of his coworkers and the psychopathic serial killer they're trying to catch) does his best to keep it a secret for Emmett's sake. But Bozer sucks at keeping secrets and soon enough Mac knows. Mac also sucks at keeping secrets. Soon enough everybody at the Phoenix Foundation has heard about Emmett's outings, so to speak, with Murdoc.

Gossip is afoot! Some say that Emmett is developing some sort of aberrant form of Stockholm syndrome, others think its a genuine blooming romance. Most are just worried for Emmett's safety. Murdoc, does, after all, have a very violent history!

But Emmett's closest friends and coworkers, Mac, Bozer, Riley and Jack, and ofc their boss, Matty, all eventually realize that the two are very much in love!

I can't remember where I saw this but somewhere on tumblr I saw a headcanon that Murdoc enjoys those cinnamon candies, so I think his favorite would be those cinnamon gummy hearts by Brachs!!

YES BC IM SUPER HOT/j/lh

Nah but fr, I did make it canon to my selfship AU that Mac used to have a crush on Emmett when they were studying together at MIT! He doesn't anymore and they are just good close friends now! At the time, Emmett was just starting to come to grips with their gender identity and transitioning to a male aligned gender. And while MacGyver supported Emmett of course, it also made his crush on them a little weird for him and helped him come to terms with his own bisexuality! It was the first time he'd ever liked someone who wasn't a woman and it was definitely a little eye opening for him haha!! He never told Emmett until years later when they were drunk and chatting one night after a mission. The two had a good laugh about it and moved on without any strife!

Tldr; Emmett is MacGyver's bisexual awakening lol

11. what kind of outfit(s) does your self insert wear?

Emmett wears basically various iterations of the same outfit every day lol. He wears dark grey/faded black jeans, red high top converse, a solid color (usually cool colors like blue) t shirt over a long sleeve black/dark grey shirt!! Sometimes in hotter weather, they forgo the long sleeve undershirt in favor of just the t shirt! But the pants stay. They don't like shorts much ahaha!!

Their outfit may vary a bit more depending on the context of the episode but is almost always more masculine in presentation. For fancier events, they usually wear some type of suit!

12. how would the fandom view your character?

SO, I already answered this one but instead of copy pasting what i put earlier i'll answer differently here bc i have more shit to say lol

I think that while the fandom would have appreciation for Emmett's representation in canon, they would also erase some of the 'less desirable' aspects of their marginalized identity, namely their fatness, in fanart and stuff. I think we'd be getting skinny Emmett SO MUCH and it would be SO BAD, like NOO, they have a TUMMY and THICK THIGHS!!! NO JAWLINE!!! LET THEM BE FAT!!!

I also think there'd be some people trying to erase their nonbinary identity too, seeing how people treat certain Toby Fox characters that will not be named lol. Like, they'll see that Emmett uses he/him pronouns IN CONJUCTION WITH they/them pronouns and just be like "Yup, only he/him!! That's a full trans man, right there!!" which would be. just wrong.
