(likely a modern AU so the timeline fits)
Eddie feels so very, very torn about the Hobbit movies. He loves the music and hums "the Misty Mountains Cold" before he can catch himself, but he not very silently screams about all the crap that was added for no reason and, the bad CGI? A travesty, your honor! He glares at the screen when Legolas appears and utters "where the fuck did you come from?", he loves the casting choice for Bilbo but absolutely roasts the idiotic way that the screenwriters butchered Bilbo's relationship with the dwarves and the way it evolved.
But the thing he never forgives those movies for is that unbelievably idiotic love triangle and the way it made others tear up when Eddie's soul temporarily left his body to punch Peter Jackson. Because it DOES. NOT. MAKE. SENSE. There was no development. The flirting was bad, trust him, he knows what good flirting looks like and this ain't it. Eddie hates it with passion, especially the scene that overshadows the incredibly powerful one with Thorin's death. He is PISSED. The scene is so so SO lazy and Thrandúil did not deserve this disrespect. Shit, even the weird added ginger elf Tauriel did not deserve it. Yes, we're talking this scene:
Tumblr media
Eddie mocks the shit out of this. He gobbles up all the memes and there is a 50/50 chance in the months after he saw the fateful scene that his contempt for it would bubble up.
"Hey Eddie," asks Steve whe he sees Eddie between moving boxes when they finally find an apartment together . "Why aren't you packing?"
And Eddie, instead of saying "I'm taking a break," clutches his chest and chokes out, "because it was real, Steve!"
When Eddie goes to buy groceries and Steve unpacks them, he notices that Eddie bought two bags of potatoes instead of one. "Why did you get two?" he asks.
Eddie rummages through his pockets and produces the receipt. "Because the discount was real!" he says with a mock sob and points at the potatoes being 30% off.
And Steve is a patient man, he really is, but when Eddie tells him that the claws were real as a response to his question why is Eddie all scratched from their cat and refuses to elaborate, he threatens that if it doesn't stop being real, he's going to get a set of the Hobbit movie posters for his side of the bedroom and proudly display them.
Eddie bitches, moans, threatens, but eventually he moves past the idiotic love triangle.
When they lie together, falling asleep, Eddie mutters into Steve's neck "I can't believe that stupid threat worked on me. Why would you even thing about something like that?"
Steve turns to him with a deadpan expression and says:
"Because it was real."

“Kili is hot.” Steve muttered 1/4 of the way into watching The Hobbit, with Eddie
“Kili? Really?” Eddie asked
“Yeah.” Steve paused and continued watching Fili and Kili realize that two of the horses were missing “he looks a bit like you.”
“Is this your round about way of saying that I’m hot?” Eddie asked
“Perhaps” he shrugged pressing a soft kiss to Eddie’s cheek “definitely” he laughed softly

Steddie Soulmate/Met as Kids AU - Part 5 Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5 | Part 6 | Part 7
a/n: there should only be one more part (of Steve's pov, at least), so we're almost to the end! I promise they will actually interact in the next installment, lol. Thanks for sticking with me, hope you enjoy it!
Usually, it was pretty easy for Steve to get by without showing off his words. The only ones who really saw them these days were the few girls he actually ended up hooking up with, which Robin would tell you were pretty few and far between.
But he’d rather deal with the potential awkwardness of having Eddie see his words for the first time than try to swim to the bottom of Lover’s Lake with his sweatshirt dragging him down.
He tried to do it as quickly as possible, but he certainly didn’t miss the glance Eddie threw his way as he caught the yellow sweatshirt. Steve’s entire body had been buzzing with that once-familiar electricity since Eddie had thrown him up against the wall in the boathouse. It was easier to dive into the murky waters, even knowing what he might find down there, than stay on the boat and deal with the weight of Eddie’s eyes on him.
From that point on, there was very little time to think of anything but the plan. Looking back on it, he would blame ranting about six kids and a winnebago on the blood loss, coupled with being so close to his soulmate for the first time in years. Between that and being in the Upside Down, his brain felt like a ball of mush. Even when he and Eddie had actually spoken for the first time since they were kids, it just ended with Eddie encouraging him to go after Nancy and left Steve more confused than ever.
When it came time to split up, Steve couldn’t help but worry. The idea of Eddie or Dustin getting hurt was almost too much to think about. The plan kept them as far away from harm as physically possible, but even still, he felt a pit in his stomach. There was something in Eddie’s eyes as he got ready to leave that made him pause, but against his better judgment, he’d stuck to the plan.
He had told Eddie specifically - don’t be the hero. So why was he now sitting in a hospital room watching his soulmate breathe through a ventilator?
Eddie and Max had both been in the hospital when they went after Vecna for what was actually the last time. Steve made it through their last battle on pure adrenaline, really. Any time he’d stopped for more than a second, all he could see was Dustin clinging to Eddie’s lifeless body, reliving the few minutes where he thought he had lost his soulmate before he’d even gotten to have him.
Now that the gates were all closed and Vecna was gone (El had made absolutely sure this time), Steve allowed himself to slow down for the first time in weeks. He’d spent every day since then (after a quick shower and a night spent in his own bed, at Robin and Joyce’s insistence) at the hospital, either in Max’s room or Eddie’s.
It was hard to explain to the others why Steve was spending so much time at Eddie’s bedside. He could tell they were curious, but luckily, they held themselves back from actually asking. Other than Dustin, Steve was the one to have spent the most time in Eddie’s room. Eventually, Dustin had to start going back to school, despite the cracks in the ground all over Hawkins. So Steve was now the one to keep vigil at Eddie’s bedside, eating food from the hospital cafeteria or brought in by Joyce and showering in the attached bedroom (one of the perks of being a wanted fugitive with a shady government organization working on clearing your name was a private room).
Robin came to sit with Steve whenever she had the spare time. She was still working at Family Video, which had somehow miraculously survived the “earthquake,” so she could only come between shifts, and dates with Vickie.
One day, she finally got up the courage to ask, “Steve? …Why Eddie?”
Steve looked up from where he had been reading aloud from The Hobbit (one of Dustin’s conditions of going back to school was that Steve picked up where he left off). “What do you mean?”
“I mean, Max’s room is right down the hall,” Robin clarified. “I know she has her mom, El, and Lucas, but you could be down there, too. I didn’t even think you liked Eddie, and now you’re here all the time. I guess, I’m just wondering… why?”
“Honestly, Robs,” Steve sighed, putting the bookmark in and shutting the book. “I’m impressed you made it this long without asking.”
Robin nudged him lightly with her shoulder. “You should be proud. But you’re not getting out of answering the question.”
Steve paused, considering. “You know how I told you that I didn’t remember getting my words?”
Robin nodded. The night that Steve and Robin had ended up drugged in the Starcourt bathroom, Robin had confessed that she’d gotten her words earlier that year, from Vickie of all people. Steve had managed not to tell her his own story - but only barely.
“I lied,” Steve admitted. “I got them when I was eight. I was at the playground and this kid came up, wanting to fight dragons with me. We played together all afternoon and I had the most fun I can ever remember having, to be honest.”
Robin’s eyebrows had shot up as soon as Steve started talking. “What happened to the kid?”
“I never saw him again - or well, I didn’t for a while,” Steve said. “He was in town… visiting his uncle.”
Steve let his eyes slide over to Eddie’s face, dark hair fanned out against the white hospital pillowcase.
Robin gasped lightly. “Oh, Steve.”
“Yeah,” Steve said, feeling his throat tighten up. “I didn’t see him again until high school and by then, I’d already fallen in with the popular crowd and I was so scared at what it would mean for me to give that all up for - well, for someone I really hardly knew.”
Steve turned back to face Robin and saw her eyes were wet. Steve knew his were as well.
“I ignored him, Rob,” Steve confessed. “I knew he was my soulmate, but I decided that popularity and making people like me was more important. And now-“
“Hey,” Robin cut him off, wrapping her arm around Steve’s shoulders. “Now nothing. The doctors are saying he’s going to make it. Now, you get a second chance.”
Steve’s shoulders shook as he finally let himself cry for the first time since seeing Eddie bleeding in the Upside Down. All of the hurt and pain and guilt he’d felt at not being able to protect his soulmate came flowing out of him at once. Robin, for her part, just held him, even though Steve knew that people crying made her uncomfortable.
After a while, his sobs quieted and he was able to pull his face away from Robin’s shoulder. “I’m sorry I didn’t tell you. I should’ve, that night at Starcourt.”
“Hey, if you should be sorry for anything, it’s getting snot all over my favorite sweater, dingus.”
Steve laughed and rested his head on her shoulder, eyes back on Eddie.
“I almost lost him, Rob.”
“Well,” she said. “Make sure you don’t, this time around.”

“I appreciate the effort but this is all wrong.” For whoever you choose
(also I know I send a request in last time so feel free to ignore this if you have too many💜)
Bruh, I don't even KNOW where this came from. But I like it. Little bit of Steddie, but this mostly ended up being a Steve and Eleven bonding ficlet. Also, word could got away from me, sorry!
“I appreciate the effort, but this is all wrong,” Eddie sighs, flopping onto the couch beside Steve and making a gesture that seems to encompass Steve’s entire body.
Steve hides a tired smile behind his drink—some unholy cocktail Hopper’s friend Bauman cooked up that seems to be mostly straight vodka. “What do you mean?”
“This! You! We just beat Vecna, man! Won the day, saved the world! And you’re sitting here in a dark corner, brooding over your drink.” Eddie leans close, his expression shifting to something dramatic and serious. “A strange-looking, weather-beaten man, sitting in the shadows near the wall,” he intones.
Ah. Steve remembers this one.
“I am not strange-looking,” he says, and then tips his cup towards Dustin, who is dramatically recounting some part of the fight to Lucas and a bored-looking Erica, as though they were not right there with him. “I am, however, listening intently to the hobbit talk.”
Eddie reels back, a shocked, delighted smile lighting his face. “Stevie! Stevie! Did you, Steven Timothy Harrington the third, king of Hawkins High, dreamiest of the all-American dreamboats…just quote Lord of the Rings at me?” Eddie’s got a bruise on his temple, blood and dirt crusted in the creases of his skin because he hasn’t had a proper shower yet. Steve wants to kiss him, wants to bury his hands in the wild mass of Eddie’s curls, wants to curl into the warmth of his body and never leave.
“My middle name’s not Timothy you weirdo, and I’m not even a junior, let alone a third.” He dares a nudge of his knee into Eddie’s and leaves it there, their legs touching from knee to mid-thigh. He watches dark eyes dart down to where their bodies are touching and holds his breath, only letting it out when Eddie lets his weight shift a little closer so that their shoulders are brushing as well.
Not the closest they’ve ever been on this night, at this party—and it is a party this time, a celebration, he loves it when they are celebrating and not clinging to each other in broken, sobbing huddles, too many empty spaces in between their reaching arms—but close. Close enough that he can feel the other man’s heat through the layers of their clothes, feel the solid weight of him. Eddie is hardly ever a casualty anymore, but nothing is foolproof and he never takes Eddie’s presence at his side when they get here for granted.
He lets himself sink against the couch in his living room, closing his eyes and tipping his head back. Eddie’s eyes will follow the motion, he knows, those quick, clever eyes flicking over the line of his throat before landing on his lips and darting away again. There’s something between them, now. Something curious and fragile, but crackling with electricity. Heat. Possibility. He wonders, when he’s feeling particularly self-destructive, how far they could run with that possibility, if they ever get the chance. He’s kissed Eddie. More times than he can count anymore. Hell, he’s slept with him—quick and desperate fucks in hidden corners, longer, slower explorations when they manage to buy more time than usual. He knows Eddie’s body in a way that should feel wrong, he thinks, because Eddie never, ever remembers.
Steve’s past pretending he’s not desperately, stupidly in love with him.
His chest aches at the thought—pain that has become so familiar he barely notices it anymore. He opens his eyes, the ache turning a little sweeter when he catches Eddie’s gaze darting away from his lips and looks out over the people crowded into his house, helping themselves to his food, his alcohol, his bathrooms and blankets and guestrooms. Everything. They’re welcome to everything, he’d give everything in this cold, cold house if they could just stay here. Now. In this moment.
They’ve all made it through this time. All of them. Max is slumped tiredly against Lucas’s side with nothing worse than a broken arm. Robin is curled up on the loveseat just across the room, fast asleep, but not pale and limp and dead. Dustin’s excited voice carries above every other conversation and Steve could listen to it forever because now he knows what it sounds like when it trails off into a wet, gurgling rattle. They’re all winding down, eyelids drooping, shoulders slumping. Nancy and Jonathan have already wandered off to the guestroom he pointed them to, Hopper and Joyce having long ago vanished into his parents’ room. The kids are gathering blankets and pillows to just create a giant nest right here on the living room floor and Steve is debating whether he wants to carry Robin up to his room or take the risk that sometimes pays off and invite Eddie to follow him to bed when he catches Eleven’s eyes across the room.
“Hey, I’m gonna go get some air,” he says, reaching down to grip Eddie’s knee. Wants it to be his hand. “I’ll be right back.”
Eddie just nods tiredly, his eyes kind of glazing over with exhaustion despite his earlier brightness. Steve stands and stretches, slipping from the room while the boys are arguing over the truly hideous (but very warm and fluffy) knitted blanket his great-grandmother made right before she died and that his mother refuses to get rid of, even though she won’t allow it to sit out anywhere it can be seen. He steps out onto the back deck, stuffing his hands in his pockets as he makes his way to the edge of the empty pool. He’s never gotten around to covering it, but he never keeps it filled when he has the choice in the matter.
He is unsurprised when he hears the door slide open behind him a few moments later. Tilts his head up to stare at the brightly gleaming moon and just lifts one arm in invitation. El burrows into his side seconds later, her thin arms winding tight around his waist as she presses her face into his chest. He doesn’t speak, holding her tightly as she just breathes. She never cries, but somehow the deep, shuddering breaths are worse.
“I’m still good to go again,” he whispers, when the shuddering breaths quiet, and he can no longer feel her shoulders trembling. He ruffles a hand through her short, bristly hair, his heart hurting at the feel of it, the way it always does. El loves her long hair. Loves what having it long represents to her. He hates to see her lose that so often.
She nods against his chest, but makes no move to let go. He bites his lip, resting his chin on top of her head. “We’re getting closer. You felt it this time, right? He almost…he almost let go of Will.”
“He did,” Eleven agrees, her voice no louder than Steve’s had been. “Almost.”
Eddie is wrong, is the thing. They haven’t beaten Vecna. Not for real. Not for good. The Upside Down isn’t gone.
It’s not over.
As a matter of fact, in just a few short hours it’s all going to start over again. All the way over again.
Steve is going to go to sleep tonight, eventually. Maybe curled around Robin, clutching his best friend’s hand and counting her breaths as he struggles to calm his own. Maybe tangled with Eddie, sweaty and sated and biting his lips bloody against all the things he wants to say, all the things he’s discovered and realized and come to know for truth as he’s come to this point over and over and over. Maybe this will be one of the times he and Eleven won’t be able to bear to go back in to the people they love knowing their happiness and relief is about to be ripped away all over again, one of the times they’ll sit and talk and try to keep each other awake for another hour, another minute, another second. It won’t matter.
When he wakes up again, it’ll be 1983. Eleven will be waiting for him in their prearranged meeting spot so he can bring her food and some warmer clothes before she leaves to find Mike and the others, so small and young again, with eyes that grow more and more haunted each time he looks into them. Will Byers will be missing. Max will be somewhere in California. Eddie will hate him, if he thinks of him at all. His kids won’t know him.
And he will be standing right back at the beginning of a path he would sell his fucking soul not to have to walk again.
And again.
And again.
He’s lost count of how many times they’ve done this. Lost count of how many times they’ve lived through this hell, lost count of how fucking old they are at this point. Does a year really count against your age if it’s erased over and over again? He tries not to think about it too hard. It might drive him crazy.
Maybe it already has.
They can’t change anything, they’ve discovered through more trial and error than he cares to try and recall. Nothing more than tiny differentiations. He can’t just cancel that goddamn party and save Barb. They can’t open another gate and bring Will home themselves. They can’t bring the lab down before Nancy and Jonathan get to it. Can’t warn Hopper about the tunnels and the mayor and the fucking Russians. Can’t tell Joyce how to break the Mind Flayer’s hold over her son. Can’t stop Hargrove from becoming a puppet, can’t save his life and at least spare Max that complicated, complicated pain. Can’t avoid the Russians. Can’t keep Hopper from being kidnapped. Can’t save Chrissy Cunningham. Can’t stop Eddie from becoming involved.
Can’t, can’t, can’t.
Things…wobble…when they try. Eleven feels it more than him, understands it better than him, but when they try to change things, it felt like the time he and Tommy decided to go ice skating on the pond near Tommy’s grandpa’s house too early in the season. He’d gotten out onto the ice first, had skated away from the edge as fast as he could, but as he got further out he could feel the ice change under his skates. Had felt it grow thinner. Weaker. Start to splinter under the blades. He’s lucky he’d still been small at that point—thin and bony and small. If it had been Tommy who raced out first, he probably would have fallen through. But that’s how it feels to him—like something is weakening and thinning and breaking around him and it would be a very bad thing if it broke all the way.
Things aren’t completely the same, of course. They’ve learned to skirt that breaking, thinning, weakening—but the little bits of pain they’ve been able to spare their friends and family are tiny. Crumbs. Nothing in the face of all the things they have to let happen.
The things they have to let happen over and over and over…because they know how to close the Upside Down, now. They know what they have to do to make sure it can never hurt anyone ever again. They know what they have to do to free the people they’ve come to love like family.
They know the price they have to pay. And they know they will never, ever take that step.
It has to be purged, is the thing. Every scrap, every bit, every awful, disgusting spore has to be cleaned from their world before the opening can be closed permanently. Every bit of it.
Even the bits that have infected people they love. The bits that have infected them.
It all has to be in the Upside Down when the gate is closed for the last time. If they can’t find a way to sever the connections between them and Vecna, Will and Max have to be left behind in the Upside Down when the gate is closed for the last time.
He and El are both in agreement. That isn’t a price they’re willing to pay, unless the only other choice is to let Vecna completely loose to rampage across the world. In his heart of hearts, Steve isn’t so sure they’d even be willing to pay the price then.
Will is El’s brother in every way that matters. They might as well be twins. And Max…
Well.
Neither of them are willing to live in a world without Max Mayfield in it.
Steve doesn’t know why he and Eleven remember all the times they have come to this point before, but Will and Max don’t. He has his suspicions. Theories that he has had ample time to turn over in his mind…and he knows he’s not the smartest person in their group, but even he can solve a puzzle if you give him enough time. He thinks it has something to do with how their connections to the Upside Down formed vs. how Will’s and Max’s were forced. El didn’t mean to, didn’t know what she was doing…but she was the one who ripped into the Upside Down in the first place, kicked up the hivemind like a hornet’s nest. And he…
He thinks of the thick, rotten-tasting fluid that fills his mouth every time he bites that fucking bat to get it to let go of him. The way it always slides down his throat before he can spit it all out. He’d forced his way into a connection too, hadn’t he? Even after all this time, he can’t decide if he’s glad he accidentally took part of that fucking place into himself that first time or not.
He’s glad Eleven isn’t alone in this. Glad he can be there for the girl who’s just as much a little sister to him as Max is, now. Glad he can remember all the moments he’s had with Eddie in all these endless loops. But oh sometimes he’d give anything to have his blissful ignorance back.
He’s lucky in some sick way, he thinks. He has the choice. Will is already infected every time they start over. The thing that makes Max vulnerable to Vecna is something they cannot change. Steve, though, can choose not to take that mouthful of rotten, rotten blood. He can suck in an extra mouthful of air before the things bring him down, give himself those few extra seconds for Nancy, Robin, and Eddie to come charging to his rescue. He can release himself from the knowledge he’s living these same hellish years over and over again any time. El has begged him to, many times.
He glances down at the girl in his arms, clinging to his waist and trying to brace herself for yet another round. Knows he never will. They’re in this together, no matter what. He can’t let her carry this burden alone. He’s going to sink his teeth into that fucking bat every time, until they’re sure they’ve figured it out. Until they know how to free Will and Max. Until they can save everyone. Then he’ll let himself out of the loop. Only then.
Then maybe he’ll finally get to see what the possibility that hovers between him and Eddie will grow to be.
“What do you want for breakfast tomorrow?” he asks, like the sun is going to come up on them here. Like he’ll stumble down to the kitchen, carefully stepping over sleeping bodies to start coffee and pancakes. Like it really is over, instead of about to start again.
“Breakfast burrito,” El says, and they both ignore how tired she sounds. How defeated.
There has to be a way to save them all…there has to. They just have to hang on until they find it. He closes his eyes and thinks of Robin’s laugh. Dustin’s loud voice. Eddie’s pretty, pretty eyes. One more time. He can do it one more time. They’re close. They have to be.
“Breakfast burrito. Bacon, eggs, cheese, peppers, no onions.” He squeezes her tighter, and her fist tightens on his shirt. “And something soft and pretty to wear.”
“Pretty,” she agrees.
“We’ve got this,” he says, and wishes harder than he has ever wished for anything in his life that he isn’t lying. “One more time.”
El takes another deep breath. Straightens, wiping her eyes on her sleeve. She slips out from under his arm, but keeps hold of his hand. “One more time,” she says solemnly. He doesn’t know how many times they have made this promise to each other.
He lost count a long time ago.

NEXT CHAPTER
Whatever you want, birthday boy.
Steve is 33, Eddie is twenty something. Age gap Steddie fic I wrote for my birthday. Very explicit, semi public sex.
"Thirty three," Steve sighs, melancholic. "I can't believe it."
"Well, think about it this way," Dustin opens his mouth and Steve knows whatever he's going to say it's not going to comfort him at all. "If you were a hobbit, you'd be an adult at last!"
"How's that supposed to be a good thing?" Steve groans, looking at the kid (ok, not a kid anymore since he's now twenty, but still a kid in Steve's eyes). "You basically told me I'm old even in that fantasy world of yours!"
Robin, bless her, punches Dustin's shoulder as punishment, getting a satisfying grunt of pain from him.
"I told you that that bit was unnecessary, Henderson," Robin chastises him and before Dustin can open his nosy mouth, adds, "what Steve needs is to go out and have fun tonight, what do you say, Harrington? Party night?"
"We already have plans, remember?" Dustin mumbles between gritted teeth, opening his eyes comically and pointing at Steve with his head.
"It's ok, I know about the surprise party, kid, you can talk about it freely," Steve shrugs and Dustin blinks several times, flabbergasted and offended.
"How…"
"Baby Wheeler," Robin says as an explanation, and that is, in fact, enough to get Dusting to ramble for a whole hour about how he can't trust anybody.
The party with the kids is, well, pretty nice. Sure, they're the kids he used to babysit when they all were… actually kids, but Steve loves all of them more than he loves his own family.
Robin is there, being the funny, eccentric aunt, pulling silly pranks for all of them and dancing horribly, dragging the girls with her and making them laugh.
Dustin has chastised Mike for hours, making Steve laugh at his antics, but now, the curly haired boy is enraptured watching Erica Sinclair dancing with El and Max.
Meanwhile, Lucas is crumpling a disposable cup, frowning at Dustin and his lovesick, bright eyes. Oh well, that's going to be fun. Steve, with a fond smile on his lips, wonders how this all will end.
Mike is talking quietly to sweet Baby Byers, who is blushing and hiding his smile behind his cup. These two should talk sooner or later, too, even if privately Steve thinks Will could find someone better.
That's what Mike thought about him when Steve was dating Nancy, and he can understand it now.
Jonathan and Argyle are already stoned and laughing about god knows what, sprawled on the coach. Steve is grateful this is not his house, he'd hate to clean up all this mess the next morning.
"Well, well, birthday boy," Nancy greets him, pouring herself a drink. "A little bird has told me that you're feeling down about your birthday."
Steve grunts.
"My birthday is ok," Steve shrugs. "It's the number that makes me sad. I'm old."
Nancy huffaws. "We are the same age."
"You're younger and prettier," Steve pouts, making Nancy laugh.
"God, she's right, you're moping, you need to get laid," his ex-girlfriend sighs with a sad smile.
"I don't-"
"Yes! Shut up," Robin interrupts them, how she has heard them, Steve doesn't know. She wraps her lanky arm around Steve's neck. "Steve needs to go out and find a nice someone. If you know what I mean. I'm taking him out now that we're done here."
"You're not-"
"Shut up, Steve, this is not about you," Robin cuts him, putting her dainty index finger in his lips.
"It's my birthday and you're talking about me and my sex life."
"What sex life, Steve?" Nancy asks with a grin. Robin, of course, snorts inelegantly.
"Auch, that was unnecessary, Wheeler."
"No more talking, baby," Robin says and starts tugging at Steve's arm. "You have your tight jeans, your shirt is ok, and your hair is amazing as always. Let's go!"
"But I want another piece of cake!" Steve tries, and loses.
He wasn't expecting a cake at all, and it was very nice when El and Max appeared holding a three chocolates cake, candles lit atop of it and everything.
"You'll have more cake later, say bye to everyone," Robin orders him, not unkindly.
Steve obliges with a tired sigh.
"Bye, everyone."
-
The club is fucking crowded when they arrive. Robin announces to the security man at the door that it's his best friend's birthday, and to Steve's dismay, she starts telling everyone who's listening that it's actually Steve's twentieth five birthday.
Fuck. Steve wishes to have twenty five years again.
He was in better form at that age, still playing basketball regularly and enjoying swimming, back when his lungs were in top form.
Steve knows objectively that being thirty three doesn't make him old, holy fuck, he knows that.
But it's sad how his life turned out.
He dropped uni because his parents lost all their money in their poorly chosen investment and his shitty minimum wage salary job wasn't enough to pay his studies and rent.
His high school sweetheart, his Nancy, broke up with him after that. Sure, they're friends now, but it was, in Nancy's words, bullshit. All that happened between them was bullshit until they managed to be civilized in front of each other again.
Then…, well, shitty job after shitty job, trying hard for nothing. He ended up working at Hopper's mechanic workshop - man, that's a story to tell some day. He's grateful that Hopper didn't give up with him.
But then again, no love, not too much money. At least Steve kept his friends and his health.
"This year is going to be your lucky year, Steve!" Robin yells at him when they manage to reach the bar, digging elbows here and there to make themselves a place. "Thirty three is a master number, baby, this is your year!"
"If you say so…"
"But today you're twenty five again!" His best friend keeps yelling to make herself be heard over the music.
It's not the kind of club Steve would choose. It's not the club neither of them would choose to spend the night, now that Steve stops and looks around. Why Robin even knows this place unsettles him.
First, the music is all wrong. Rock and roll blasting through the massive speakers, the riff of an electric guitar thrilling Steve's eardrums.
Second, the place itself. Dark and grimy as usual, yes, but the walls are covered in posters of bands Steve doesn't even recognize. Well, most of them. He knows Led Zeppelin because of Hopper, and AC/DC, but that's all.
Third, the people around them: metalheads, all of them. Bare skin covered in black ink tattoos, tight black jeans, well worn band t-shirts and ripped black lace everywhere. Fuck, is that guy wearing eyeliner?
Steve perches on the bar to call to any of the bartender's attention and then he sees it: the blonde girl that is, possibly, the reason they're in this metalhead club.
He looks at Robin before even doing a once over to the girl. His best friend smiles sheepishly at him.
"Really, Robin?" Steve mouths, arching a brow.
Robin shrugs with her beatific smile still on her lips. "Sorry," she mouths back at him.
The blonde girl, wearing a black crop top and revealing some tattoos, is talking with another waiter, a guy. Tall, with long, curly hair. He’s wearing a long sleeve shirt with black sheer material that clings to his toned arms and chest.
"You don't even respect my birthday now," Steve yells at her. The loud music and the fact that he's smiling at her makes the whole accusation fall flat.
"I still want you to have fun and get laid, try something new!" Robin says, tugging at his sleeve, and ok, she's right, Steve can have fun tonight and enjoy himself.
-
“I’m gonna do it,” Eddie says, a wolfish smile tugging at his lips.
“No, no, no, I forbid it,” Chrissy puts herself between Eddie and his target.
“But, look at him!” Eddie pouts. They’re yelling at each other so they can hear what they’re saying, even if Eddie is sure Chrissy can read his mind by now. “Or, don’t know, look at the girl that is with him and let me go, whatever.”
“Exactly, Eddie,” Chrissy has that exasperated look when she speaks. “He’s with a girl, you don’t know if…”
“Excuse me, madam,” Eddie cuts her, “but my gay-radar never, ever, fails.”
“Yes, yes, I know, but…”
“Then what’s the problem?” Eddie asks, looking at the guy that has him enraptured over her shoulder.
“The problem is that we don’t serve free drinks just because, Eddie!”
“I’ll find an excuse, darling,” Eddie promises, and shoves her to get to his target.
The target is the cutest preppy guy he has ever seen in his whole life. A white t-shirt that stretches over his pecs, of course, and a white and red windbreaker that makes him look broader than he probably is, Eddie wants to discover it. He’s sure that the guy is also wearing tight jeans, he looks just like the type, a jock. Tall, pretty face, great hair, like a white, bright beacon in a sea of metalheads wearing all-black outfits: the guy seems lost here, at the Horned Demon, with his looks and his styled hair. Eddie wants to ruin him. He can’t stop thinking about the unnamed things he wants to do to him while he approaches him and the girl that is talking to him.
“Hello, handsome!” Eddie greets him with a wink when he reaches their spot, leaning across the sticky bar so the preppy guy can hear him. “What can I do for you?”
It’s so difficult to be sultry while Judas Priest is blasting at full volume, but Eddie fucking tries, wearing his most charming smile and looking at the guy with interest.
The guy doesn’t have the chance to speak, though. The girl who accompanies him - Eddie is 90% sure she’s not his girlfriend - jumps over him, wrapping an arm over the guy’s shoulder, and yells at Eddie.
“He likes cranberry vodka!” She exclaims happily. “Can you put a little umbrella or something on it? We’re celebrating!”
“Really? What are you two celebrating?” Eddie asks, elbow propped on the bar, eyes raking over the preppy guy, grinning at him openly.
“It’s his birthday!” She yells again. “He’s twenty five today!”
Eddie’s grin widens. There it is, the excuse he was looking for.
“You got it, handsome birthday boy who likes cranberry vodka,” Eddie winks again at him. He’s good with his eyes, he knows it, Chrissy has told him, and Gareth hates when he puppy-eyes him, so Eddie knows he can weaponize them easily. “What about you?”
“Oh no, it’s not my birthday, thanks!” The blonde girls answers, and fuck, Eddie has to laugh. He immediately likes her, even if he’d hate if she’s actually the guy’s girlfriend.
“Good to know!” Eddie snorts. “Want something to drink?”
“She’ll have jack and coke, thanks!” The guy answers now, and, ok, it’s weird that they order for each other, but still, Eddie’s hope is strong.
-
Steve is stunned, there’s no other word for it. The bartender is hot, and undeniably young. This close and even in the dim light, Steve can appreciate his toned arms and chest and abs. God bless his stupid sheer lycra shirt. His torso is spattered with tattoos that Steve can't recognize but it doesn't matter, suddenly, a flash of himself worshiping and lapping these tattoos floods his mind.
The bartender flashes a grin to Steve, who returns it back the best he can, and by the smug look on Robin's face, Steve knows that she knows.
"What?!" He asks loudly.
"Nothing!" Robin grins knowingly. It's going to be a long night.
Just a few minutes later, the hot bartender is back with Robin's jack and coke and his own cranberry vodka.
"There you are, birthday boy!" He announces with a pretty smile that makes Steve go hot all over. Maybe he should take off his jacket.
Steve looks at his drink, the glass decorated with a silly pink umbrella, and smiles, reaching for his wallet and opening over the bar to pay.
“This one it’s on the house, handsome!” The bartender yells at him, putting his hand over Steve’s, stopping him. Steve looks at him quizzically, the other guy shrugs, his smile still in those plush lips, showing his teeths. “Happy birthday!”
Robin elbows him in the ribs, shouting at him that she’s gonna pay her drink to the pretty blonde girl that is still at the other corner of the bar, and Steve starts panicking almost immediately.
He used to be suave, when flirting. He used to be able to stay calm and smooth in front of someone pretty. Maybe with age he lost his ability, or maybe it’s the lack of alcohol in his system, or the loud heavy metal music that is deafening him.
“T-thanks!” He stutters, feeling deeply stupid.
He wants to say something flirty to this guy, he wants to know his name. He’s having ideas, everything he’d be already doing if he were twenty five again and not thirty three. Oh, Steve used to have the best ideas, he had so much fun when he was younger.
Now it seems that a pretty boy with dark eyes looking at him it’s enough to render him speechless.
“My break is in fifteen minutes!” The guy tells him, leaning into the bar to get close to Steve. By instinct, Steve leans on too, his eyes fixed on this man’s lips. “If you want to have some fresh air!”
Oh well, not subtle, not in the least with the way the long haired bartender is looking at him, biting his lower lip, and fuck. Steve wasn’t subtle when he was younger, either.
“I’d love to!” Steve manages to shout in the guy’s ear, earning a wide grin from him. Dimples, for fuck’s sake, the man has dimples when he smiles like this, and Steve feels himself sweating already.
Sadly, the bartender vanishes from his side to attend the other customers, and Robin appears by his side just a moment later. When she tilts her head, Steve notices that Robin’s face is tainted with lipstick in the shape of a kiss.
“How?!” Steve asks her, amazed.
Robin shrugs, sips her drink. “Jealous?”
“Yes, obviously, since when are you good at flirting?” Steve demands to know, faking being offended. There was a time when Robin tripped all over herself the moment a pretty girl passed by her side. Those were the times, my friend.
“Since you taught me!” Robin yells at him, laughing. “Come on, King Steve, where’s your charm lately?”
-
“What do you mean you’re taking your break?” Chrissy asks him once they’re at the storage room.
“I mean that…”
“You already took your break, Eddie!” Chrissy reminds him, and he bites his lower lip, puts his best puppy eyes to her, pouts.
“But he’s interested in me, Chris!” Eddie sobs like a child. His best friend sighs. “Gareth and Jeff are here already, and Freak will be here in like, two hours, the club is not going to be unattended, it’s not so crowded tonight.”
Eddie knows he’s pushing his luck: first the free drink, now asking for a second break. His shift will be over when Freak arrives, as he said, in two hours. But he knows that a lot of things could change in two hours and he really is into this preppy birthday boy with droopy eyes and kissable lips and broad shoulders.
He simply wants to see if they’re compatible before asking him to wait for him so he can walk him home, and a second break it’s perfect for that. A little bit of flirting, maybe a kiss, see if this guy and the butterflies in his belly are something he wants to take home with him at the end of his shift.
“Come on, Chris, I’ve been in this dry spell for months,” Eddie pouts again. “Also, I saw you kissing that blonde girl.”
Chrissy’s eyes widen and she looks at him with murder rage, nostrils flaring, and Eddie knows he just won.
“It’s his friend, you know…” Eddie shrugs nonchalantly. “I can get her number for you, if you didn’t ask her for it, if you just…”
“Ok, ok, fine! Whatever!” Chrissy exclaims, wiggling her arms in the air. Eddie grins and fist pumps in victory, mouthing a yes between his teeth. “I want her number before you leave tonight.” Chrissy adds primly, leaving him alone at the storage room.
-
With his jacket draped on his arm, Steve tells Robin about the bartender, asks her if she thinks it’s a bad idea, but his best friend howls an awful sound at Steve’s words, making him shake his head, even if he’s smiling.
“Tell me you told him yes, Steve, or so help me…”
“I told him that I’d love to, yes, gosh!” Steve answers, but he’s now feeling a bit lighter, a bit… high. Cran vodka it’s not so strong to him, he’s sure this feeling is related to the hot, young bartender that wants his attention tonight.
“Good!” Robin exclaims and clinks her drink with Steve’s. “You’re both adults, go have some fun!”
“What about you?” Steve asks, suddenly worried about leaving Robin behind.
“I’ll be good, I texted Jonathan and Argyle, they’re already on their way!” She grins at Steve. “But I plan to take someone home later, too, honestly.”
“The blonde girl?” Steve asks her now, wiggling his brows to make Robin laugh.
“D-uh!” Robin looks for the blonde girl who is serving drinks at the bar. “She’s so pretty it hurts me, Steve, and she’s so nice!”
“She already kissed you, didn’t she?”
They banter like this for a while, laughing at themselves. It’s good, fuck, is good to be able to laugh at the little silly things while having a drink. They never stopped doing it, so Steve doesn’t know why all this melancholy is coming from.
Someone taps him on his shoulder and Steve turns to see him. This close they’re almost the same age, Steve finds himself looking at the biggest dark eyes he has ever seen.
“Sorry to interrupt,” the guy says with that blinding smile that is making Steve feel so weak tonight. “I just, my break just started…”
“You don’t interrupt anything!” Steve rushes to say, to Robin’s amusement.
“Yeah, it’s ok, I’m his lesbian soulmate, Robin!” She introduces herself even before Steve can say something else. Worst wingwoman ever.
“Robin! My friend Chrissy, at the bar, wants your number, maybe you could..,”
“Well, gentlemen, see you later, have fun!” Robin exclaims, stepping between them holding her drink over their heads and rushing towards the bar like something is chasing her. Steve shouts a loud good luck to you! at her back, just to find that the guy is looking at him intently.
Steve clears his throat, awkwardly.
“You wanted some fresh air?” He asks.
The bartender nods and without wasting a single second, he grabs Steve by his wrist and leads him through the crowded place to the barely hidden back door.
Steve’s heart is thumping in his chest, following this guy he doesn’t know at all until they get out of the club, the cold night breeze welcoming them in the alley. It’s dark, dimly illuminated by the streetlights of the adjacent street. Steve can still hear the faint drumming and bass of the music blasting inside.
“Ah, this is better," the cute bartender exhales, tossing his head back, letting Steve ogle at his long neck, dampened curls sticking to it. Steve swallows dry at the sight in front of him.
Steve can't believe this guy wants to spend his time with him.
"I never saw you here before," the bartender says, opening his eyes and looking at Steve. Flustered at being caught, Steve avoids his eyes. The cute guy is smiling, though.
His voice is deep, calm, and washes over Steve easily. Even with his eardrums still pumping with the ghost of the loud music, Steve falls a bit more now that he has heard his voice.
"Not really my scene," Steve admits. "Robin was the one who dragged me here."
The cute bartender's smile widens. "Then I guess I should thank her," he adds, closing the distance with Steve.
Oh fuck, shit, it's happening. Steve feels his blood boiling under his skin, just because of the proximity.
Steve didn't even ask for this guy's name. Maybe it's how the cute guy likes to do it, no names, not complications. What if Steve's heart hurts a little at that thought. He's the one actually lying to him, not saying his real age to him.
"Well, well, birthday boy," he says with his rumbling voice, stepping into Steve's space. Steve smiles at him, feeling butterflies in his tummy. "I have twenty minutes and I’m all yours.”
Fuck. Yes.
Steve smirks when the cutie wraps his arms around his neck and he feels bold enough to span his hands around the guy’s thin waist and pulls him closer, their bodies crashing together. This is Steve’s area of expertise. Maybe he has forgotten how to flirt, but he’ll be damned if he doesn’t remember how to pull his moves.
The reason why he was called the King of Hawkins’ High.
It lites every nerve on his body when he cradles the guy’s pretty face on his hand, cupping his jaw and cheek softly, drinking the way he looks at Steve, dark eyes widening and breath hitching. Steve smiles and leans in slowly, just in case the bartender would want to take a step back, just in case he’s having second thoughts. But that’s not the case. They both find each other in the middle, lips brushing slowly.
Steve can make those twenty minutes pretty amazing for the guy that is now buzzing with nervous energy in his arms.
He feels high.
-
Eddie is used to one night stands and summer night flings. He’s a hot bartender with a strong sexual energy - he likes to tell himself that while he’s working at the club, when he’s at home reading with his glasses on and his sweatpants there’s zero sexual energy, but that’s another story.
The thing is, he flirts a lot, it’s part of the job, really. He has luck more often than not. He’s used to people lusting after him, and sometimes Eddie indulges - he indulges a lot. Sure, lately he’s been suffering this dry spell, but it was his choice. No one has picked his interest lately.
Tattooed, metalhead hot guys. Pretty girls with red, plush lips and soft curves. Eddie has never been picky, but his circle is limited, so he’s used to the same types again and again.
He’s also accustomed to quick affairs, he doesn’t even remember the last time he cared to ask someone’s name. Sometimes it’s just about a rushed handjob on the alley. He has only to be careful that Gareth hasn’t had the same idea at the same time. That was a nightmare of a night. Now both of them double check.
Rarely, Eddie invites whoever he has his interest on to stay the night with him. This doesn’t happen a lot, Eddie is… bored, if you ask him. Anonymous sex and one night affairs are great to an extent.
Eddie is not used to gentle hands caressing his face with no rush, though. He’s not used to the slow slide of this birthday boy’s tongue against his, tasting like cranberry vodka, kissing him as if they had two hours and not twenty minutes to enjoy themselves in a dark alley. Instead of rushing things, he simply presses their bodies together, rocking against the wall and pulling Eddie with him. His body is warm and solid against Eddie, his fingers digging in his waist. That all is more than enough to have Eddie hard and ready in his ripped, black jeans.
Birthday boy puts himself comfortably, his back against the wall. Opens his legs and lets Eddie settle between them, hands roaming up and down Eddie’s back, his warm sips through Eddie’s almost nonexistent shirt: yes, black translucent lycra looks good on him but now the cold of the night mixing with the heat that this guy radiates is making him lose his mind.
Fuck, this guy knows how to kiss. Eddie lets him set the pace, since he knows what he’s doing, and focuses on the pleasure that is kissing someone this leisurely. The moment Eddie breaks the kiss to breathe, the other boy mouths his jaw and neck, teeth brushing sensitive skin, and fuck. Eddie can’t help the involuntary twitch of his hips.
“Ah, fuck, you’re good at this,” Eddie whimpers. Birthday boy simply hums against his pulse point, sending vibrations down Eddie’s spine. Fuck, his cock twitches and they’re still doing nothing. The guy’s hands - why does he have these stupidly broad, warm hands? - press Eddie against him a bit tighter. Oh, the flex of his biceps when he does it, Eddie feels his muscles working underneath him, and somehow that drives him crazy.
Eddie needs more than twenty minutes with his guy. He has the urge to strip him naked and worship his body, he wants to see what’s hiding under these ridiculous tight white t-shirt and jeans that cling to his thighs. Sorry, James Dean, but birthday boy wears this outfit better. Fuck, he barely had time to admire his arms now that he’s not wearing the jacket, hanging from the crook of his arm.
With a particularly well aimed thrust of his bucking hips, Eddie feels the hard on that this guy is sporting himself. A hard line straining his jeans and twitching under Eddie’s constant squirming. They’re wearing too much clothes, Eddie wants to see, wants to know.
He sneaks a hand between their bodies and cups the guy’s obvious erection, making him gasp, hips bucking, so fucking satisfying, knowing that is Eddie making him react like this. Through the jeans, this guy’s dick is scorching hot and it seems to be massive.
It is this guy’s birthday, but Eddie is the one receiving the best gifts.
Or so he hopes.
“Ah, shit,” birthday boy pants when Eddie tries to stroke him, following the tenting of his jeans. “You don’t have to…”
Huh, Eddie thinks, this is why they’re here, is kind of the deal, right? No one ever told him something like that. Eddie cranes his neck to look at the preppy guy, his droopy eyes half lidded, lips parted, breathing heavily.
Eddie is doing this to him.
Oh fuck.
“You don’t want me to?” Eddie asks, aroused, confused.
“Fuck, I want to, just,” the guy laughs awkwardly, cock pulsing visibly through his jeans. “I’m nervous, I think, it’s been a while.”
Eddie smiles at him, pecks him softly in his lips, almost chastly. This guy is precious. And Eddie is enjoying far too much just being here, feeling him breathing and just having him underneath his body. It’d be cozy if it weren’t for the dark alley, the trash bins, the noise of the street and the music of the club.
This is new for Eddie. He gnaws at his lower lip for a moment.
“Look, I-” Eddie starts saying, his mouth betraying him. “I was thinking about getting you off here and now-”
“Jesus Christ,” birthday boy interrupts him, hips bucking, rutting his hard cock against Eddie’s.
“But if you’re not ok with that, that’s ok,” Eddie adds in a rush. “If you want to, we can wait. My shift ends in two hours or so, we can go to my place later, if that sounds better?”
The guy groans, arches his back. Laughs.
“That’s it, if you can wait two hours to taste this,” Eddie teases, ruts against the guy, hips rolling seductively.
“Fuck, you should come with a warning label around your neck,” he says, and tugs at Eddie’s nape, pulling him in for another kiss, melting Eddie in his spot. “Fuck it, let’s do both, let me touch you now and I’ll give you whatever you want at your home.”
Eddie is thrilled, trembling with anticipation, cock leaking at the guy’s words.
Before Eddie can think about it, birthday boy has both his hands on him, touching him through the sheer material of his stupid lycra shirt, and Eddie moans throatily.
-
Having this cute boy so close is driving him insane. Steve thumbs at his nipples just to find them pierced, and a wave of renewed arousal threats to overwhelm him. He wants to put his mouth on it, feel it on his tongue, tug at it with his tongue.
Steve has never been with someone like him, tattooed and pierced and with that blustery energy buzzing out of him, this aura of danger surrounding him. It’s doing things to Steve. Robin was right, he really needed to try something different. Plus the added risk of being caught in public.
Fuck. Fuck.
Steve wants to feel the warm bud of steel with his tongue, see if that gets some reaction from the boy, if he’s sensitive. So Steve tangles his fingers at the root of the bartender’s dampened curls, tugs at him, making him break the kiss and bare his throat. Steve tugs his hair a bit more, forcing Eddie to arch his back, chest heaving, and lunges to suck his left nipple into his mouth.
“Fuck me,” he whimpers, arching into it, hips thrashing. Steve pulls at him by the waist with his other hand, pressing his thinner frame against him, holding him there.
“When we get to your home, I promise,” Steve teases, and resumes to lick at the boy’s nipple through his shirt, dampening it with his spit.
The metal buds in his tongue are something else. The nipple hardens under his tongue, Steve wants to rip the stupid shirt off, even if the coarse material is an added texture to this all. He laps and licks it the best he can, tugs at it carefully with his teeth, and the cute guy in his arms whines at it.
So stupidly hot. Steve’s cock is leaking like a fountain, ruining his boxers, and it hurts when it throbs. Steve groans, nipple in mouth.
He doesn’t remember feeling this feverish for someone, this horny and needy. He feels like a teenager again, on the edge already just by this silly thing.
“Ah fuck, fuck, birthday boy,” the boy moans, body arched beautifully for Steve, his long fingers digging in Steve’s biceps.
It feels so good. So fucking good.
“Steve,” he murmurs at last, stopping in his mission to abuse the left nipple.
“W-wha?”
“I’m Steve,” he smiles, looking at the sight in his arms.
“E-Eddie,” says the bartender, voice raw and wrecked.
They stay like that for a second, panting, drinking in the other’s arousal. Steve’s head feels dizzy, full of cotton, static noise drilling his ears. Eddie, the name echoes in his mind.
“Nice to meet you, Eddie,” Steve smirks, feeling confident again. He lets go of Eddie’s hair, satisfied when he leans into his body, hands roaming over Steve’s pecs, and kisses him with all that young enthusiasm.
While Steve kisses him trying to set a pace, Eddie fumbles with their jeans until he has the flies open and unzips them. Eddie moans a few curses against his lips when he finally grabs Steve’s cock and frees it from his cotton boxers. Steve keeps him pressed tight against him, peppering kisses and nibbles whenever he can reach.
“Is this ok?” Eddie asks nervously. Whatever reticence that was holding Steve back is now forgotten.
Steve didn’t plan any of this. It never occurred to him that he’d be spending the night of his thirtieth three birthday jerking off in an alley with someone as pretty and interesting as Eddie. Thankfully, life still keeps some good surprises for him.
“More than ok, Eddie, fuck,” he moans, hips twitching, feeling electricity where Eddie has wrapped his fingers around his shaft. It’s like Steve can feel everything at once, overwhelming him.
The maddening beating of his heart, Eddie’s hot breath in his lips, his long fingers around him, the warm metal of his rings in his tender skin. Eddie’s weight and heat. The cold air of the night.
“Kiss me,” Eddie demands, taking himself in hand and lining his hips so both their cocks are pressed together. Steve obliges, his whole body on fire. He thinks he could never deny Eddie a thing.
He’s the desperate and uncoordinated one in this kiss. Eddie strokes them both, mixing their precum and making everything sloppier and messy and fucking amazing.
“Fuck, yes,” Eddie groans, his voice low and deep. “You feel so good, Steve, can’t wait to have you inside me…”
Steve gasps, digs his fingers in Eddie’s soft flesh.
“You want that, birthday boy?” Eddie asks, his fist tightening around their dicks, fucking into it with abandon, hips pistoning as if he needs it bad. Steve dares to look where they’re joined and see how more pearly beads of precum bleed off his cock. “I want it too, baby, I want to have this so deep in me I can feel it in my throat.”
“Holy fuck, Eddie!” Steve whines, imagining it. Eddie sprawled for him, open wide so Steve could take him, legs on his shoulders, spine arched while Steve pounds into him fiercely.
It’s the first time in years he’s this turned on, rushing towards the edge shamefully soon. Well, it’s not like they have more than Eddie’s break to finish this, thankfully.
Steve’s hand joins Eddie’s, clenching around them both, helping Eddie to go faster.
“Ah, shit, I’m close,” Eddie warns, and is all Steve needs.
Claiming the swollen lips of the bartender, Steve’s strokes grow frantic, feels Eddie squirming where they’re joined together, legs trembling. Steve swallows every one of his moans and pants.
Eddie goes first, breaking the kiss to growl, resting his head on Steve's shoulders, shivering with the force of his orgasm. That, and feeling Eddie’s come all over the head of his cock is what pushes Steve towards the edge, groaning between his teeth and holding to Eddie for dear life, his whole body twitching.
Neither of them say a word, too occupied panting and coming down from their orgasms, Eddie’s weight on Steve, and the wall behind Steve supporting them both. Knees shaking and chests heaving, spent cocks twitching with the aftershocks.
Steve feels… alive. On fire. He doesn’t think if it’s appropriate or not, he simply holds Eddie, keeping him from falling to the ground, and kisses the crown of his head.
Oh, he’ll overthink about it later. Right now it feels good, it feels right.
“Fuck,” he hears Eddie whisper, and the rumbling of his laugh. Steve smiles, deeply satisfied.
“I know,” Steve says, laughing too.
“I’m wasted, man,” Eddie laughs. “I need water, and a nap, fuck, I don’t know if I’m going to survive the next two hours.”
Steve laughs with him, feeling just the same.
“I’m sorry?” Steve asks, laughing, and Eddie shoves at his shoulder without strength.
“Shut up, you know it was amazing,” Eddie smiles at him, that blinding smile that is becoming a problem, since Steve can only think about kissing it.
He does that, though, now that he still can. Just in case.

Eddie is- what’s the opposite of freaking out? He’s at peace with the world, and himself, and everything is pure and bright and perfect.
Man, the power of a mind blowing orgasm. Eddie can’t wait for the next one, hopefully thinking that Steve will wait for him and walking him home later.
“I ruined our shirts, that I’m really sorry for,” birthday boy, Steve, says, wincing.
“I have spare clothes in the storage room, maybe something you can wear too,” Eddie offers. He takes a glance at his wristwatch. “We still have a few minutes, if you don’t mind waiting a bit, though I’m getting cold.”
“Oh, here,” Steve says. He shifts and produces his white jacket from nowhere, Eddie doesn’t even remember him putting it aside or whatever. Magic.
Steve wraps his jacket around Eddie, and after all that happened during the last fifteen minutes, this is what makes Eddie blush like a maiden.
“There you are, don’t freeze yourself,” Steve smiles at him, his back still against the wall and supporting Eddie’s body, ignoring his own trembling knees.
Oh, no. Eddie thinks, smiling dopily at Steve.

Steddie Flirting Disaster Gays
"Okay, bye Munson! See you next week!" Steve watches Eddie leave Family Video, hearing the sound of the bells on the door signaling the end of their exchange. He slumps down onto the counter, head in his hands. "Robs, I don't know how much longer I can take him pretending to flirt with me. I feel like I'm losing my damn mind."
"He's real flirting with you, dingus." Robin doesn't look up from her position rewinding the newest set of VHSs that had been returned.
"Haha, yeah sure."
"I'm not joking, Steve, have you even noticed the movies he's been taking out recently? He hasn't checked out The Hobbit in over 2 months."
"I told him to get his own copy. Maybe he did."
Robin pulls out the records of rentals. "Munson... Munson... Munson! Here." She shoves it in Steve's face. She second guesses Steve putting it together himself and brings the book back to her chest. "7 weeks ago, Love Story."
Steve gives her a look. "Is he not allowed to like romance movies?"
"He's only coming in during your shifts. Did you notice that? He has no history of checking out romance either, it's all nerd fantasy shit or horror movies. Anyways, listen to this, 6 weeks ago, An Affair to Remember."
Steve shrugs. "Still might be in a romantic mood. I've rented the same genre more than one week in a row."
Robin rolls her eyes. "5 weeks ago, Grease, and Splash. Sounds like a lube joke, Steve. Plus, that's the 3rd week of romance."
Steve folds his arms, remaining unconvinced.
"4 weeks ago, Romancing the Stone, and Sword in the Stone."
"Maybe he's dating someone and they're having date night?"
"He would've told us if he was dating someone, and that one is getting a little explicit." Robin locks eyes with Steve. "3 weeks ago, Every Which Way But Loose, and The Harder They Come."
"Okay maybe-"
"2 weeks, Pound, Dark Passage, and All Night Long."
"But-"
"TODAY HE GOT 8 1/2 AND SHAFT, STEVEN."
He can't argue with that. He checks the time and date for each rental, and lo and behold, all his shifts.
"Shit."

Steddie x Reader Imagine - Sleeping/Laying positions
Normally it’s you that sleeps in the middle playing little spoon for one of the, while the other one uses your chest most like a pillow, listening to your heart while you cradle their head, running fingers through their hair.
They prefer sleeping on either side of you, so that they can protect you. You're pretty sure monsters aren’t gonna be attacking you while you all sleep, they much prefer prey running and screaming.
When one of you get sick, then that person get put in the middle(unless it’s the flu, then you sleep separately from the sick one), so that the other two can take care them, and getting out of the bed to get medicine, water or food if they need.
So if Eddie is the sick one, then normally you sit with your back again the headboard, his head in your lap as you read to him, normally Lord of the rings or The Hobbit, while Steve is bring the food and water, for the three of you.
If Steve the sick one, then you're the one on food and water duty, while Eddie is the one entertaining/looking after Steve, normally it just mean listening to music or watching a movie/something on the tv.
If any of the you have a nightmare(flashbacks) while sleeping, that is automatic middle positions so that the two other can wrap their arms around the middle person, while comforting and speaking soft sweet words.
There are times when it just you and Steve in bed, cause Eddie having a creative night, needing to write it down, whether its for D&D, music or something else. When he does finally joins you both, he will just lay across both your and Steve’s legs, at the bottom of the bed, cause he can.
However when Steve comes to bed late, then he does his bed to be quiet, while getting changed and normally slips in behind Eddie, cause he’s the one less likely to wake up.
You however, if you comes to bed late, will wiggle yourself into the middle, with low protest from Steve who had been sleeping, so you just kiss his cheek before doing same with Eddie, just encase he had woken up.
You all sleep the best when all three of you are in the bed.

Established Steddie, they have been living together for over a decade, did their best to heal their wounds from the Upside Down and learn to enjoy life again. It's not easy but they do it.
When the Lord of the Rings movies come out, it's actually Steve who suggests watching them to Eddie. He really tries engaging with Eddie's passions, but his focus is not the greatest when it comes to books. That doesn't mean he doesn't listen to Eddie ramble about them though - he knows all about hobbits, second breakfasts, the culture of smoking in the Shire...Eddie admires a lot of characters from the books, but ever since experiencing the Upside Down fuckery, he actually admits that the hobbits had a point. Good food, even better company and good tobacco? What else does one need? It also inspires Steve a few years later to prepare a full day of hobbit-inspired meals for their trilogy marathon when the extended editions come out. But this is about their first time watching the movies.
They both go to the movie theater excited. Steve is familiar with most of the characters, including Eddie's self-admitted crush on Aragorn. And Steve can see why, he can see so much good in all the members of the fellowship. After the first movie, he's wiping his eyes because Boromir deserved better. Eddie has a lot to say about what was lost in adaptation, but Steve knows Eddie loves those movies and would cut off his only remaining nipple before missing the next ones.
The Two Towers have Steve rooting for the ents and he feels strangely touched about how everyone underestimates Pippin, yet it's him who gets the ents to march. He really can't pick a favorite character. He can't wait for the third movie.
They go to the premiere of the Return of the King with Eddie. They secretly hold hands in the last row, and Steve watches the ride of the Rohirrim with bated breath. He clenches his hand in Eddie's when Theoden gets gravely injured, but then Éowyn is there and...oh.
He is staring slack-jawed at the scene. Éowyn's large, terrified eyes, the towering frame of the Witch King. Her posture was fearful, crouched, but still she faced him. And something surfaces in his head, something he's long forgotten.
He's unusually queit when they come back home, he still loves the rest of the movie, almost cries at "my friends, you bow to no one,", then definitely cries at Frodo leaving the Middle Earth. But there is still that something and Eddie can sense it. When they're falling asleep together, Eddie finally asks him. And Steve's had enough time to process what he felt.
"When Éowyn faced the Witch King...it reminded me of what it felt like. I mean, for the first time. I know it's stupid because saw so much unnatural shit, but...it's the first time that I have hard time forgetting," he admits quietly. "She reminded me of me in 1983 so much. I had no clue what I was getting myself into. I thought I'd do the right thing, but then I had a gun pointed at me, they both had blood on their hands...and then it appeared."
Eddie doesn't speak, he only holds Steve closer.
"It was so tall. I remember that petal-like mouth, those teeth, but mostly...I remember the crippling fear. I felt absolutely terrified. I couldn't move. There was even a moment when I thought of running away, but...I couldn't leave them there. Seeing someone go through something similar and being praised for being a hero...it makes me think. I used to be so ashamed for freezing in that moment. For even considering running away. But Éowyn...she was like me." There's awe in his voice and warmth, relief. "She had no idea what she was getting into. She froze. She didn't do everything perfectly and gracefully like Legolas or something, but when it mattered...she did what she had to."
He holds Eddie tighter and asks, almost shyly: "Will it offend you that I think she's my favorite character? Not Aragorn or Sam?"
Eddie just shakes his head and drops a kiss to Steve's hair. "Nah. She suits you well. And you're both amazing."
And if it becomes a silly endearment in their household, that Steve is sometimes called the Shieldmaiden of Hawkins? ("I'm not a maiden, Eddie!" "I'm not calling you a shieldboy or shieldbachelor, Steve!") Then Steve feels a hint of something that he thought he'd renounced, but now, for the first time he feels it's deserved - pride.

thinking about a modern steddie au (maybe tattoo artist eddie if i end up writing something?) where eddie is sick as a dog and steve is staying over to take care of him so eddie ropes him into watching the LOTR trilogy for the first time. they're stuck, might as well, right?
so of course eddie, sniffling and sneezing his way through the films, goes sharing all the nerd facts about the movies with steve.
"y'kdow snff! all of those hobbit hills were built like a year before filbi'g so it could all grow over?"
"no shit? they really prepped for this, huh?"
"oh yeah, h-hhh harri'gtod- h'xtshhiew! ugh, s'cuse b'me..."
"bless you, tissues?"
"yes, please"

wrote a tiny lil ficlet about t4t steddie having a baby, kind of an amalgamation of all my many posts on the subject. yes i AM going through it rn why do you ask
Stevie's been taking Eddie's pregnancy pretty hard. She's excited of course, and it was her idea in the first place (not that Eddie's complaining), but sometimes Eddie catches her watching him with tears in her eyes, and it breaks his heart to see his wife upset over something so beautiful.
He's assuming it's a jealousy thing. They haven't talked about it much. Once, when his belly was just beginning to show, they lined up sideways in front of a mirror, Stevie in front, so that all that was showing of Eddie was his bump, sticking out behind Stevie like it was her belly swelling with their child. She'd cried then too, but before Eddie could say anything she'd covered his face in a thousand little kisses and pretty thoroughly distracted him for the next hour.
Right now, they're sitting at the kitchen counter eating dinner. Stevie asks him to pass the salt.
Eddie looks down, where the salt shaker is sitting by his left elbow. “Hmm… I mean I would but I’m just… soo pregnant….. don't know if I should be doing all that heavy lifting.”
Stevie snorts and rolls her eyes. Eddie's been doing this for the entirety of his pregnancy, which he maintains is his right as a pregnant person. Most of their friends are pretty done with his shit, with the exception of Dustin, who's developed a case of baby stress that frankly concerns both Stevie and Eddie. If Eddie so much as sighs too hard Dustin is already up and asking what he can do to help Eddie and his future goddaughter. D&D has been interesting lately.
“Eddie. Please?”
Eddie puts a hand to his chest in mock offense. “I’m sorry Stevie, do you want to endanger our baby?”
He's expecting another laugh, or one of those dry, sarcastic remarks that made him fall in love with his wife in the first place, but instead he's met with silence. He turns to Stevie, who is once again staring at him with tears in her eyes.
“Hey, baby,” he says, rubbing one hand along her arm and bringing the other to her face to wipe the tears away. “I was just kidding, I know you don't want to hurt her. You can have the salt if you want.”
Stevie gives a wet laugh. “It's not about the salt, dumbass.”
“What is it about, baby? Because I feel like half the time I look at you these days you're on the verge of crying.”
“I just- I feel-” Stevie sighs, looking up to the heavens like that'll help her find her words. “We're going to be a family, y’know? Like, you're my husband, and we're going to have a daughter, and you're gonna be the dad and I’m gonna be the mom and every time I look at you I remember and I just- I love you so much, y’know? And I love her so much. So like. They're good tears, don't worry.”
Eddie smiles at his beautiful wife, who's always been so full of love he wondered if she might explode, and who now seems to be doing just that. “Jeez, I thought I was the one who was supposed to be all pregnancy-weepy,” he says, definitely not wiping away a tear of his own as he does so.
Stevie laughs. “I think it's a sympathy thing. I’m like this when Robin’s on her period too, I have no idea why.”
“Well you and Robin share a brain, so it's not that weird.”
Stevie shoves him, gently, and then her hand falls to the swell of his belly. “I love her so much, Eds. I can't stop thinking about it, like, doing her hair, teaching her to swim, coaching her softball team-”
“I’m gonna cut you off there, Steph. Bad enough I married a jock, I refuse to give birth to one too,” Eddie says, fondness in his voice betraying him. “I’m gonna teach her guitar and how to play D&D, and I’m reading her The Hobbit every night. Should counteract your DNA enough that she doesn't end up too cool.”
“Her godparents are Dustin and Robin, I think it's physically impossible for her to end up cool,” Stevie says with a laugh. Her gaze softens as she feels a gentle kick beneath her hand. “I don't want her to be cool, though. I just want her to be happy.”
Eddie places his hand over Stevie's, gives it a gentle squeeze. Their daughter shifts contentedly inside of him, and he thinks about how he completely understands Stevie being so happy and full of love that she cries every time she sees him.
“Yeah,” he says, focusing all his energy on their daughter, trying to telepathically communicate the love he and her mother feel for her through their shared bloodstreams. “I think we can do happy.”

Bedtime stories | Eddie Munson x Reader
Summary: After eighteen years of ignorance, you finally discover The Hobbit
Word count: 0.6k
A/N: I got this idea from this Steddie art
Tumblr media
-
Eyes heavy from the weight of the day, you sat cozily in the corner of Eddie’s bed, dressed in one of his worn band tee shirts. The collar had holes, but the fabric was soft and perfect to sleep in. And, it smelled like him.
You yawned, trying to fight tiredness, but it was getting harder as minutes passed. ‘’Eddie, are you finished soon? I’m starting to fall asleep-’’
‘’Don’t you dare!’’ he said dramatically as he slid the bathroom door open and poked his head out, finally finished with his shower. ‘’We need to get through at least one chapter before you fall asleep.’’
‘’Then, get moving.’’ You snuggled your face against your pillow and plush blanket as another yawn came up. ‘’I’m tired.’’
‘’Let me brush my teeth and then I’m all yours, okay?’’
You nodded although he couldn’t see you. ‘’Okay.’’
Nights at the trailer were your favorite. The place might not be a five star hotel, but you loved it here - it felt like home. Falling asleep and waking next to Eddie, cooking together and teaching him simple recipes because that boy can't cook anything that doesn't come from the freezer, watching TV in the evening until one of you falls asleep on the couch, brushing your teeth at the same time in the bathroom and fighting elbows.
You could have none of that at home. Not with your strict and overbearing parents around all the time.
When he was finished, Eddie flopped on the bed and stole you a kiss. He tasted fresh of mint toothpaste. You smiled and grabbed at his shirt, pulling him in for another kiss, addicted to his freshly showered scent. Eddie laughed softly, complying and kissing you some more.
‘’Ready?’’ Eddie asked when you allowed him to pull back, his soft brown eyes looking at you.
You nodded, feeling excited despite your tiredness.
Eddie grinned at you, then reached over to the nightstand and grabbed his well-loved copy of The Hobbit. The corners were curling and he had written notes in the margins of the pages, but he would never replace it.
When you admitted to having never read it, Eddie had faked being wounded. How can you not have read the greatest children book ever written? You promised to make it up and grab the book next time you go to the library, but he made it your next bedtime story instead, claiming you needed the 'full experience' - whatever it meant.
At eighteen years old, you should be a little old to be read bedtime stories to, but according to Eddie there was no such thing as being too old for bedtime stories. So, he began reading his favorite books to you - and you loved it.
With Eddie, bedtime stories weren’t just bedtime stories. He made the stories come to life by doing all the voices and making the book sound like an image-less movie. He loved when you would ask questions about the stories and how you would get upset when he would stop in the middle of the book because it's late and you need to sleep.
He had even gotten out his old battery-operated flashlight from when he was a kid and would read under his blanket, faking being asleep. His uncle knew he wasn’t sleeping, but he never said anything. Now, the flashlight stood on the nightstand, lighting the room with a soft yellow glow, creating just enough light to read and see each other.
‘’In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit,’’ he began, feeling a sense of comfort in reading his favorite childhood book. ‘’Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole, and that means comfort.’’

A small snippet of Holding Out For a Hero (my Steddie fix-it, which has now reached 8000 words and doesn't appear to be slowing down 😅) ((ETA: new name - I'd Fall For You Twice))
"So, uh, you need anything else?" Steve asks, lingering by Eddie's bed.
"Nah, I think I'm good, man. Got something to do now, after all," Eddie replies, holding up the book Uncle Wayne had brought. "So, uh, if you've got somewhere you need to be…"
"Are - are you sure? Cuz I could stay. You know. If you - if you need."
Eddie has never heard Steve sound so hesitant. But, as much as he'd like Steve to stay, as much as he doesn't want to be alone, he also doesn't want to be a bother. Despite everything Steve has done in the last few weeks for him and Uncle Wayne, or maybe because of it, Eddie can't quite shake the feeling that Steve is only here out of a sense of obligation. That Eddie is just another one of the people Steve feels responsible for, like Dustin or Max or Erica. And Eddie can't bring himself to add more to that already overfilled plate.
"You really don't need to waste your time here, dude. I'll be okay, promise."
"Oh. Okay. Yeah, Um, I'll get out of your hair, then." Steve stands and slowly gathers his things. Eddie bites down on the inside of his lip, determined not to be just one more duty for Steve.
But watching him walk to the door, a distinct slump to his shoulders, does something to Eddie's heart. A sort of looping clench and Eddie can't stop himself from saying, "Steve, wait."
He stops in the doorway, but doesn't turn around. "Yeah?"
"You know, it's actually kind of hard to read with these bandages on my face. Do you think - could you maybe read to me?"
It's bullshit and he knows it's bullshit and he's positive Steve knows it's bullshit, too. But Steve is already pulling the chair closer and pulling the book from Eddie's unresisting grasp. He looks at the cover for a minute.
"Is this that nerd shit Henderson is always going on about?"
Eddie is already regretting his momentary lapse in judgment. "Actually, never mind. I'll be fine," he says, annoyance leaking into his tone as he reaches for the book again.
But Steve pulls it closer to himself with a placating, "Sorry, sorry. I didn't mean it that way. I just - this is that book, right? The - the Mordor one?"
Eddie makes a face at Steve, but subsides, leaning back against his pillows. "Sort of?" he answers. "It's a prequel to those ones. Happens before them. If you like this one, we can always read those, too." He grins.
Steve shoots him a look, but the smile pulling at the corners of his mouth softens it. He opens the book and begins reading aloud. "In a hole in the ground, there lived a hobbit…"

it’s 3:26am and i cannot sleep so i just did a rough estimate of how many words of steddie fanfiction i’ve read since i bookmarked my first one on the 17th july. turns out i’ve read approx 1,875,000 words of steddie fanfiction over the past 11 weeks.
for anyone interested, that’s the equivalent of
- reading les mis about 3 times
- reading the entire harry potter series, and then re reading deathly hallows an extra four times
-reading the entire lord of the rings series, including the hobbit, 3.25 times
- and it’s about 100,000 more words than the song of fire and ice (GoT books) series so far
i think it gets worse when i admit that i have never watched an episode of season 4 and i literally just started reading this pairing because i saw the “don’t cha, big boy” scene on my twitter timeline.
