Any new art or anything you're working on or anything you wanna talk about?
I’ve got a couple WIPs going and a lot of things in my ‘to draw’ list that I’m too scared to start- but anyway I redesigned some of my old PMMM OCs and had a long discussion with a friend about their designs and story, and I really really wanna write it down now that it’s spring break, but I still haven’t started yet and it’s frustrating XD I’ll post the designs soon! And if I actually get around to it, and if people are at all interested, I’ll post their story as well :>

So I recognize now that I have over 100 subscribers! To celebrate this occasion we’ll take a quick look into how I used to make OCs for this project. There’s a handy little art program called Gemsona maker which has several options for Gem OCs, a program which can also fuse together your OCS. I used this to plan out a bunch of OC designs. They were always meant to be a rough concept for the original Gems that would inhabite the TCC Underground.
The five on the top left were meant to be homages to the five central characters in Puella Magi Madoka Magica. PMMM is a dark magical girl series with a lot of similarities to Steven Universe in regards to how magical girls worked.  Coral and Amber were meant to be Bratty and Catty. Spinel was going to take the place of the River Person (a role which is uneeded due to how inter area transportation works). Moonstone was meant to be Shyren, and Sunstone Shyren’s sister. All of these are scrapped because they’ve been phased out in favor of more canon Gems. Moonstone and Sunstone are still a factor in this AU, but they have nothing to do with Madoka anymore and neither are in the same place in the current TCC story.
Before there were any canoical Beryl Gems I assigned the Beryl group as a merchant class.   Some ideas die hard, so while it’s not the purpose of Beryls, most Beryls Steven will encounter are still selling stuff.  An Aquamarine was meant to be the “Snowdin” shopkeeper, Emerald was Gerson, and Bixbite was Burgerpants. The rest are in the same roles I originally intended for them, though they were redesigned to match canon Aquamarine more closely.
Cymophane was meant to be Aaron and a Gem geared upon trickery and espionage. I just never figured out how her encounter went, so when the Ruby squad debuted in “Hit the Diamond” I gave the Aron role to Eyeball, then to Army.
Pyrope replaces well, Pyrope.  There will still be a Gem with her name later, but the original concept of Pyrope was a Ruby/Pearl fusion. As we now know Ruby and Pearl make Rhodonite, she is a fusion of a Ruby and another Gem. My friend Anna has redone her design to reflect this.  Black Pearl was meant to be the Pearl component of the fusion, while the Ruby was either Navy or Doc depending on the time period.
Twilight Topaz was redesigned by Anna and is a fusion of Moonstone and Sunstone. Amusingly since I dropped the PMMM inspired designs, I worked backward from Twilight Topaz to make the new Moonstone and Sunstone designs.
Once again Snowflake Obsidian has been redesigned by Anna, and has already appeared in the comic to replace Ice Cap. The central concept was that Snowflake would hide her beautiful long flowing hair underneath a hat far too small to hold it.  Anna’s design captured that idea wonderfully. Amusingly this idea came before I decided to give Leggy her clothes fascination, so in the end I tied these ideas together.
Morganite was a design I was never quite happy with. Originally the idea was that all the Beryls had hexogonal hair to match the hexogonal structure of real life Beryl Gems. This was an idea that was conceptually better than it actually looked and Pine’s design looks much better for this character.
The Goshenite in this image still largely has the same role as originally intended but her design will match the one we see in Boreal Forest Village.
Crysoprase, as I imagine many have noticed, is largely the same as Nephrite. Both were always meant to be an uncorrupted Centipeetle. All evidence so far points to Centipeetle being Nephrite so I changed the name to match. Crysoprase is a Quartz variety, which matches her long hair. But I realized making the  Boreal Forest Force all Quartzes seemed a bit narrow minded for Crystal Gem territory.
Crazy Lace Agate is another one that Anna has redesigned, and her design has led me to alter my plans for that particular encounter.
Onyx and Rock Crystal are a complicated topic because Anna redesigned the latter and not the former. As the two were always meant to be the two halves Fused Quartz, that partially altered the FQ’s design, even though she hadn’t even been aware of the connection between the two. They were always meant to be the Dogi.
Finally Tiger’s Eye.  This one was largely redesigned because she looked far better in the Gemsona maker version than she did within the size limitations of an overworld sprite, and a within the color limitations of an UT battle sprite.
Keep posted and I’ll gather up some scrapped Anna designs to show you.  These were generally not discarded because of low quality but because of changes to TCC brought on by the show’s canon.
