I feel like I’ve seen way too many posts about how Shifty is way too unmoving and arrogant in her position during the final battle, even saying she’s dismissive, and guys guys– in the gentlest way possible:
That’s the entire point.
Conflict is in your nature, the both of you pushing and pulling against each other. If she was calm, and understanding, you’d both stay unmoving and unchanging, and that’s just not in your nature.
She pushes, so that you’ll push back, so that new avenues of experience can be born, so that the both of you can keep changing each other. Change doesn’t come without conflict and push back, so of course she’s going to push against you, that’s simply in her nature.
Shifting Mound is always going to be relentless, and the Long Quiet is the only one who can answer in kind and push against her. That’s just how their dance go. The question is on whether you want to join her on it as two beings too larger to be comprehensible to anyone but each other, or if you’d rather be something smaller but easier to comprehend.
There are no wrong choices. Only new beginnings, and fresh perspectives.
This is a love story.

sometimes I hear people talking about how shifty was cruel to her components, and the way the pieces of her were often terrified before being taken, and something about that doesn't sit right with me.
I always related to shifty because I have been many people in my life. And in a sense, every one of those people has died, been destroyed. But what does shifty say herself? I am speaking of something that cannot be done. To destroy is to remold and reshape. Those people aren't gone, per se, just moved out of the spotlight to make room for future evolution.
Sometimes it makes me sad how many of the old me's are gone now. I imagine speaking with them frequently, and yes, they are sad to have gone. Most wanted to keep going. But that's not how change works. If something is to begin, something else has to come to an end. We cannot enjoy the beauty of the prisoner and the beast and the thorn and the eye of the needle if we don't first say farewell to the stranger.
No one really wants to change. No one really wants to start again. But it's necessary. I cannot know what it is to be me without taking time to explore my facets left undiscovered. It doesn't mean that I no longer have room in my heart for the old ones, that I haven't loved the me's of the past, or contain none of them within me, just that I know that to live is to be changed. And each perspective of the Shifting Mound had been moved to the greatest extent to which it could change, and to continue on, a reset was necessary.
To view the Shifting Mound as being cruel to her selves is to ignore who she is as a whole in favor of the fragments that we like. The Shifting Mound was doing what was best for her to grow and to evolve as all beings do, and by extension, doing what was best for each individual princess. If someone were to get angry with me for becoming quite different than I was as a teenager, or a seven year old, then that would tell me that they didn't actually care for me, just the version of me that they liked.
It's time for the Shifting Mound to move on. Time for the Long Quiet to move on. It hurts, but it's what we need to truly get to explore and love ourselves, and we can't truly love the princess if we only love her for a piece of what she is, and try to limit her to the specific qualities we enjoy. It just isn't fair to any of them.

(spoilers for slay the princess ahead. also, you should go play slay the princess.)
I understand, theoretically, why the ending where you & the princess leave together is the fan favorite. it is, in way, the ending that's most relatable to a human being, the ending that's the easiest to understand. you and the princess are free from the construct, and free from godhood - something that may seem daunting to the player.
except there's one glaring issue here that I haven't seen a single person mention.
what about the metaphysical/philosophical implications?
what happens to the universe when you both abandon your godhood? does death still exist? does anything still exist? is it just you now, alone together in the remains of The Long Quiet?
just something to think about :)
this is, after all, a horror game. all the endings have their own potentially horrifying implications, and I think it's important to talk about them.
(also, from a more subjective standpoint, I simply don't understand why you'd want to give up your true self for the sake of becoming a mostly normal mortal. like, what's the appeal here?
when you talk to The Shifting Mound and talk about what the two of you are she says this line that really stuck with me.
"We are oceans reduced to shallow creeks."
in this ending, you are giving up on being the ocean.
maybe you're no longer a shallow creek, maybe you are more of a lake or a river, because now you know who and what you are.
but you still could have been so much more.)

The Anatomy of an Outfit (aka 'holy fucking Continuum THE LOOK™)
Y'all know I haven't seen a single STP episode since 2.9. I would rather gargle with acid than go near this show ever again frankly, but, well...
Tumblr media
... Good sweet sanctuary what the fucking hell is THIS. :O (@tennant, clearly a fellow appreciator of all things ancient god, must be thanked profusely for these glorious few shots I'm about to show off. <3)
I called this lovely, lovely man returning about ten minutes after he 'died', but I don't think any of us were expecting his outfit to slay THIS HARD when he did. And not only is it the sexiest thing my fortunate eyes have ever had the pleasure to absorb, but it also happens to be very, er... well let's be real here, it's ridiculously Qcard-coded.
Let's break it down, shall we?
We'll start with the obvious: it's maroon and black. This look appears to be a mad fusion of his Encounter at Farpoint judge robes (which is fair, we end as we begin), and his husband of forty years' captain's uniform. That piped shoulder's hugely reminding me of this, in fact:
Tumblr media
It's the inverse! You know, the same look, flipped? Because they have perfectly distinct personalities but are also mega gay???? Costume department allies fr.
The delightfully dramatic sash Q's rocking is also interesting - it places maroon at the centre of the outfit, and is its grandest statement, which makes it an excellent example of the importance of the colour to its wearer. This is the clothing equivalent of him having mon capitaine tattooed across his essence, which... well yeah, valid. Canonical facts. It's worn across virtually his whole chest, too, because nothing says 'that's my husband' more than having him literally held against your heart.
It's a different era of captain, across two shoulders - the old teasing, and the new love.
Also, this fucking brooch.
Tumblr media
Now, whilst I doubt they've given even John de Lancie a piece made of actual rubies for a fifteen-second scene, the stones here are very clearly meant to evoke them. And rubies are interesting for several reasons:
They're Picard's birthstone, his birthday being July 13th;
They're symbolic of power and protection. What follows is some of the interesting info I've picked up from internet gemology on rubies:
Tumblr media
... Huh. Resolve disputes. 'Dispel anger,' when we've seen a darker Q in this series. And 'protective powers'... mm, how many times has Q saved Picard's life again? What did we get up to, six?
Tumblr media
... 'Romantic love.' 'Devotion.' Uh-huh.
This brooch is also evocative of the Navaratna, or this thing:
Tumblr media
The brooch itself is clearly stylised, but it features eight gems orbiting a central larger ruby (which is meant to be the sun by the way, as though this motherfucker wasn't already evocative ENOUGH of the sun here or here), and is an important cultural and religious symbol in Hinduism. What's it symbolic of, exactly?
... Oh, nothing much. Just... just this.
Tumblr media
... Like I said, nothing much, just the whole concept of Qcard in fucking jewellery form.
The brooch's also, as the wife @porgthespacepenguin pointed out, an eight-pointed star.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
... Have I mentioned yet that I fucking detest this show? Because I really fucking detest this show.
There's nine rubies on it, as well. Picard's in his nineties.
So, let's recap:
Nine of Picard's birthstone for his ninety years
Sun symbolism, AGAIN
Celestial relationships
Beyond space and time
Romance
Prosperity
Protection
Resolution
So, all that, from a brooch worn over an outfit that looks suspiciously like Picard's, which has a sash across it in Picard's colour.
... And I'm supposed to believe that Qcard isn't endgame? You're really going to gaslight me to this degree right in front of my salad, you absolute bastards????
Guys, when you inevitably wipe this shitshow of a Star Trek from your collective minds like I'm about to do, just... take this with you. Take the fact that everything about this outfit and this SHOW has said all along that Qcard is endgame, until they couldn't be arsed. Until they lost their balls for the pathetic few who might have naysayed it.
Patrick, and certainly John, deserved so much better. I'm glad that at least someone on this set understands that. (I see you, costumers. I see you, and I love you.)
Just going to... just going to stare at the absolute fine-aged wine of a man that is John de Lancie for a moment, before I lose my whole shit. He calms my soul, you see.

I get WHY comparisons happen because it helps boost the game and previous media exists, but I’m getting sick already of people going “STP is the dark souls of DDLC” like WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN STOP IT

Bandana Dee: What’s your favorite color?
Meta Knight: Stop asking stupid questions. Ask me something logical and mature.
Bandana Dee: How many moles of sodium bicarbonate are needed to neutralize 0.8ml of sulfuric acid at STP?
Meta Knight: My favorite color is blue.

Personally, i don't see why people are comparing Slay the Princess to DDLC.
Sure, both are visual novels that have meta elements, but they're very different in the meta commentary and how they handle said meta. They're just as apples and oranges as they get.
At least the Stanley Parable comparisons make sense because there are genuine comparisons you can make to both games (such as the narrators, time loops and getting different endings). There's nothing about StP that gives DDLC vibes.

Since noone else asked, whyd you choose phalloplasty over metoidioplasty, or was the latter not an option for you?
also I wish a very nice day to you and everyone reblogging your frotting post t4t frotting is beautiful peace and love on the planet earth.
I hear metadick Is usually smaller than phallopenis so you could assert dominance over those guys too but I don't know if there's as much of an audience for a post about that but I could be that audience one day idk
i chose phallo over meta bc meta did not meet my needs. i wanted a penis large enough to penetrate reliably, and a penis closer in average size to an average natal penis.
meta penises are always smaller than phallo penises. meta does NOT add length to your penis, despite what a lot of people say. if you are 2” pre-op, you will be 2” post-op. what meta does is allow your dick to stand at a 90° angle when erect. this can free up some *useable* length, but it doesnt *add* length.
generally speaking, most surgeons agree you need to be 2”-2.5” to reliably STP and penetrate. standing to pee wasnt an issue for me bc i have no dysphoria around sitting to pee and felt like forgoing UL was an easy way to reduce complications (OHSU also does not do UL without vaginectomy and keeping my pussy was essential for me). i was about 2” pre-op, so on the lower end of being able to reliably penetrate.
i also just have always envisioned myself with an average sized dick. even when i was a little kid and didnt know trans people existed, i would imagine myself as a man with an average sized penis having sex w other men. since meta wouldnt provide that, it wasnt really ever something i seriously considered!

HOLY FUCK (slay the princess spoilers!!)
Tumblr media
The Narrator explains that the more you walk away from the cabin the more paths appear that lead to the cabin until its all laid out before you that everywhere you go leads to the cabin its impossible to not get to the cabin (at least as far as you know...) and this visual representation of the meta presence of every possible branching path in slay the princess drawn so clearly is BLOWING MY MIND!!!!
usually with meta it stays purely of the mind in video games its kind of hard to portray the eldritch horror of a consciousness of the "rules" of this universe, everything to do with being 'unchained' in kh, the matrix, the good place does this, cartoons like adventure time do this, a wrinkle in time does this, a game that i can think of that actually does do this is life is strange the ability to time travel and realm jump and if i remember correctly seeing the butterfly itself is showing tangible proof of the butterfly effect and it truly is almost some like deific being exacting these events and forming a connection with max (god that reminds me life is strange is so good i was OBSESSED with it) but with video games its not usually tangible its not a place you can go and see and live in because of modeling and this shows how much being 2d really helps slay the princess in portraying the multiverse the multiselves theuniverse shattering reality bending stuff that is going on and it is SO WELL DONE every piece of art is so beautiful and breathtaking god i love this GAME!!!! (kh has also done this with 2d they established it in khux and worked it out in kh3/the dlc!! 2d rules theres so many anime movies that are "trippy" but its this god i love meta so so much it makes my mind feel good mmm i love stp so much

CAUSE VS. CANON: Making the Case for Qcard
*Warning: May trigger some Qcard shippers*
I had an interesting conversation with a friend yesterday about loving certain dynamics in stories, like Star Trek's Qcard for example, and how nitpicker fans and shippers analyze the writers' work, the actors' performances, etc. to show that a dynamic/relationship is true/canon.
She insisted that if you look hard enough to find proof that a relationship between two characters is canon, or has validity, you will find it "*simply because you want it to be true, even if it's not.*" 😡😡😡
She called it "nitpicking for a cause."
As a devoted and longtime Qcard shipper, I bristled at her comment, and I proceeded to explain how writers intentionally weave dynamics into their scripts and stories through devices, including: parallels, such as STP S2's Q/Picard and Teresa/Rios, and through lines, such as STP S1: the butterfly motif, (Q)ueen cards, (Picard's unusual luck in surviving the explosion), which led to S2 Q's butterfly comments, the S2 trailer (Q)ueen card, The Sun/Q motif, Q, of course, and his lesson to Picard about opening himself up to love, so that he could be chosen by someone else to be loved in return. Then, in S3, we had Q's last minute return signaled by the Sun, and Picard allowing himself to love Jack and being accepted by Jack.
I also pointed out that Trek writers choose very specific words for actors to use at unusual times to indicate dynamics, too.
Ex: Picard (S2): I always filed Q as *unknowable.*
@porgthespacepenguin and @celestialholz both have meta-analyses on Qcard that beautifully prove Qcard as canon by the writers.
She still insisted at this point that I was nitpicking, intellectualizing dialogue, and over-analyzing all because I WANTED Qcard to be real.
Finally, I told her that writers, such as Cindy Appel, producers, like Akiva Goldsman, and Ron D. Moore, as well as actors Patrick Stewart and John de Lancie backed it up, too.
She then said, "Well, De Lancie was told to act a certain way and read the script."
I then pounced, saying that although actors follow scripts, they do have some agency in their performance. John de Lancie and Patrick Stewart both made deliberate choices in their portrayals, using certain types of body language, voice inflections, facial expressions that added credence to Qcard.
At this point, she gave up the fight and smartly so.
I mean for her or anyone else to suggest we Qcard shippers find those nuances/subtext/indications woven into a script and performance out of a desire or desperation for it to be canon irritates me.
My friend then asked me, "Why can't you just casually watch something, like Star Trek and enjoy it for what it is? Why all this analysis?"
It's a fair question.
I guess it's because while I can casually watch something and enjoy it at face value, other things, such as Qcard are like finding gold dust on the ground. You see gold on the surface, and it's great. You could make some money from selling that gold dust, sure.
But, if you dig just a bit deeper, you find a rich gold mine worth much more. Much more satisfying.
So, what do you think?
Was my friend correct in saying we Qcard shippers analyze and nitpick for The Cause?
Or, are we actually on to something?

back in March when I first heard of Slay The Princess, the only point of reference for meta narrative driven games for me was The Stanley Parable, and despite The Narrator in TSP being as British as they come he felt surprisingly softer than The Narrator of STP. I remember thinking "just what are you so haughty for?" all while people were excited for some voice actor guy, brilliant for the role, apparently. even though it flew completely over my head at the time.
fast forward several months and me practically binging 5 seasons of tma and now The Narrator in STP feels like coming home. like stumbling upon a good old friend. I loved the premise of STP from the moment I learned about it, only now every snarky remark echoes with fondness in my heart, and I can truly appreciate what an excellent choice it was to pick Jonny of all people

I disagree with Narrator in a very fundamental and philosophical level, but you know, even if I agreed 100% with his worldview and the reality he wants to bring about, I’d still think he’s wrong for taking matters into his own hands and changing THE VERY FABRIC OF REALITY affecting people in the entire universe, simply because HE thinks he knows what best for the world.
Like– that’s why I find him so fascinating, it’s not only the fear of death or disgust towards the very concept of change (tho that is very funny and interesting in its own right), but the utter arrogance to champion himself Savior of the World without EVER considering that maybe– just maybe, people might not agree with what he plans to do.
Like. Hubris indeed, and he even has the gall to say, “you can still do what you must and kill her” when we call him out on it. Like. Wow. I want to study this guy under a microscope.

just wanna say. I am very opinionated on many stp characters. and am willing to argue about it. but I think a lot of the ambiguity of the game was intentional. we're meant to draw our own conclusions, because it's about perception, and so actually many people having many differing opinions and experiences is essential to the game. If people didn't, then it wouldn't really have done its job well, would it have?
Anyways, the way I view what's not explicitly stated in canon is the same way I talked about viewing the long quiet and its appearance on an art challenge I made a while ago. it's customized. it's individual. it's unique and different for each person. whatever conclusions you've drawn? they're true. You're right, just like the person who disagrees with you is right.
Because each person had their own experience, met their own princess, narrator, and little voice companions, and each person was their own version of the player character. Each person had their own idea of what it was to be the long quiet, of how we're supposed to relate to the shifting mound, and of the morality and implications of the narrator's quest for an immortal world. Each of us built our own story, and to say someone is objectively wrong about their separate and different story is nonsensical. To say that you have to be right about a vague philosophical concept that isn't clarified in the game itself feels controlling.
We're all free to draw up our own headcanons or implications or aftermath scenarios, and whatever you dream up? Yeah, it's what happened. To your Long Quiet. In your play through.
I know this is probably hypocritical because of how often I argue about stuff, but I think we should all be free to have our own thoughts and ideas. I just really enjoy expressing mine, even if I need to get better at clarifying that I don't think my idea is mutually exclusive with someone else's.
In other words, your opinion is your opinion. Don't let people give you shit about the story that you created, it's just as good as anyone else's. You created a beautiful story, and it's yours, so don't let other people tell you how to read it.

Read “Slay the Princess” fanfic. Now I want to write “Slay the Princess” fanfic.
Was up until 5am trying to make it work, and I’m realizing I… might need to fucking RP this with someone? Like, I think I need someone to be the Player I can bounce narration off of so that I can check in every so often like, “Okay, now if you were playing the game, what impression would you have right now? What path would you guess you were most likely going down? What would you expect this character to do next?” Because I am realizing I really struggle to capture that in the moment, and that’s kinda a problem with characters who are literally molded by perception. And this has become beyond frustrating really fast.
…Who wants to do StP reverse-verse RP with me? (You don’t even have to be in the fandom, it’d basically be like… me GMing a text adventure for you with occasional meta check-ins. Please.)

new metoidioplasty techniques are being widely employed (extended meta) and we’re already facing new rounds of misinformation and handwringing. saw a post on reddit about how extended meta is “~new and experimental~” and handwringing about how the penises made with extended meta are all still “fresh results” that are still swollen so all pics of them don’t represent their “true size” (false) and they’re upset about how it doesn’t allow for STP (true but not a big deal for some people)

🍋?
I'm not asking so i can prompt it next time wym
🍋 What’s your favorite spicier trope to write?
lol
i think we all know by now that i'm very into BDSM and dom!magnus and sub!alec so that is always a thing but that's not even necessarily sexual, just inherent so for spicy...
magnus teasing alec with his control. over alec, over his pleasure, over everything. alec's been fighting for control over his own life for so long and he can't trust anyone else with it but magnus. so i feel that's pretty intimate because alec can finally let go and relax and magnus gets to marvel at how much alec trusts and adores him.
magnus pushing alec to brink of his limits and then slowly easing him over because alec can't stop begging him for more.
uh... fucking on a battlefield tbh....
corpse desecration *cough* like, the reason magnus has that cloak of nephilim feathers, collected from over a thousand corpses... is literally so he can fuck alec on it. that's the entire point of me creating the cloak and i still haven't written that scene. because it needs to be very intense because it's pretty fucked up but alec still enjoys it and he's really into it. especially because 'his feathers and wings will never be added to the cloak' soooooo yup.
also look, @alxndrlightwoods (aka saeth) has a really amazing fic with magnus fucking alec by camille's corpse. it's amazing. it's a thing thats fun. blood and death and fucking are definitely things i have fun writing.
piercings, i have a fun prompt i'm waiting to fill with magnus have a jacobs ladder (again TMFAR frm saeth, amazing)
monsterfucking and nephilim/warlocks having different... phyiscal features compared t mundanes
i'm super into a/b/o in certain settings because it's a very primal culture and so like... i have meta about omega!alec literally just leaving a trail of heartless alphas (he ripped them ut with his bare hands) because they tried to seduce/claim him. omega!alec is always on the cusp of going feral because he's so done with the world around him
i write queer a/b/o so like, trans!dynamic or alpha/alpha and omega/omega is fun.... i got off track
orgasm delay/denial. cock-warming, public sex, intimacy.... kelpie!alec au is uh... very heavy kinkwise. like. tbh its more intense than saints & sinners which i think is my most intense verse with sex so far. if only because of how intense the power imbalance and dynamic is.
i really love predator/prey vibes between them and translating that into the bedroom... or whatever surface is available.
uh this got very disjointed and i hope it makes sense!
anyways i need to stp because @saryn-prime needs cuddles and they just took over my lap and they're not happy that my laptop is currently n their shulder.
