The water laps and pulses. Growling, stroking, choking.
Same place same rhyme.
Sickly blues and black eat at the metal, as it has eaten before.
History repeats. Same rhyme.
The ocean feeds, as it was force-fed your oils and skins. The sweat on your back like those back in your sweatshops like the sweat in your blood money. Blood to a shark, you followed to the depths.
Pulsing, stroking, choking.
Air is pulsing and beating, the rhythm in your chest a weak drum. Deus ex machina’s abandoned lover. How many days? How many hours? How many minutes?
Unsinkable, indestructible, immortal.
Choking and choking and choking and waiting.
Waiting
Waiting
The sun is gone
Waiting
Stroking, choking, dying
Repeat.

Okay so I had a lot of phone time yesterday so I was reading about the submarine situation frequently. And last night I dreamt stores started selling these mugs (in empathy? Of the situation? I guess) of Bea Arthur making a raised eyebrow sour lemon mouth face with the phrase "sorry your husband is lost at sea". Like every store had these. I was like "huh I guess that's how they're reacting to this"

as a general rule, the sort people who complain about billionaires are the sort of people who would behave exactly the same as them if given that much money

you know what really gets my goat... all the people on that sub got to experience at least 4.5 decades of life. they got to explore and travel, they went to college, they found love, built families, established careers and got their name out there, they got to make some sort of mark in the world....all of them except for the kid. this dude was only 4 years (maybe 3) younger than me. he was barely a legal adult, still a teenager. prob didn’t even know much life outside of school, prob was only now starting or hadn’t been to college yet, hadn’t had a chance to experience life as an adult yet.... and he wasn’t even really supposed to be on that sub.
he *didn’t* want to go. he was TERRIFIED. he was the only person on that stupid tuna can death trap with any semblance of common sense. dude basically got dragged there by his rich ass dad  (literally the richest family in pakistan for crying out loud) bc yall know how it is with rich ppl (SPECIALLY the billionaires) : business over everything, live to work but don’t work to live, family is secondary, etc etc...dude probably didnt get to spend much time with his dad bc he most likely wasnt around most of the time and was all work work work but knew he (the dad) wanted to go, prob wanted him to go as well and tried persuading him to join. and even though something didn’t feel right to him, it was father’s day weekend and he must have felt like he owed it to his dad to go and took the risk bc he trusted his dad/wanted to make him happy even though his gut feeling said not to and he really didn’t want to do it. ik he ‘was an adult’ technically, but he was literally only 19 and parental approval gets people to do stupid shit they probably wouldnt otherwise do against their better judgement...
they literally confirmed (his aunt) he only went to bond with his dad...and instead his dad basically dragged him to both their deaths....this is so fucked. irresponsible and selfish. everyone else knew damn well at their big ages that was stupid and it was only a matter of time before something seriously tragic happened. and this guy knew better than to drag his kid into this knowing he probably would do it just bc it was his dad and a grown ass adult that could probably be trusted bc he’s ‘wiser and more experienced in life and knows better than a 19 y.o’ ...and now they’re all dead. literally fuck off for this

The whole Oceangate submarine situation just makes me think about how invincible billionaires believe they are. How strongly they think their wealth and power shields them. And on land, generally, it does.
But they left land.
In an experimental contraption that was not approved by any safety or regulatory measures, made from poorly constructed parts, controlled by a literal gaming console and sealed from the outside. You need to have a special type of self confidence in your own personal value to not only willingly take that risk, but to pay a quarter of a million dollars for it.
And so they left. But the ocean is not the land. It does not care for your riches, or your power within society. It simply takes what has been given to it.
Obviously, there are people who are dead/dying in this whole situation. Families and loved ones will mourn. And that is a tragedy.
But the fact remains that it was an extremely avoidable one.
The fact that this whole thing is getting more coverage than the hundreds of refugees who died/are presumed dead after a mass drowning just further demonstrates the power those in that submarine have.
More information for the refugee story:

Okay i have yet to see a post about this that isnt filled with ppl being Annoying as Fuck on it, but,
theyve found wreckage of the submersible, it imploded (thank god, thats better than a drawn out suffocation over the course of several days, implosion means it was pretty much instantaneous) and the us navy have revealed they heard a weird sound on sunday from about where communication with the sub was lost, that was probably the sound of the implosion, [implied that they didnt say anything cos they didnt want to jump to conclusions without evidence of a wreckage, if there was a chance they were still alive.] no idea what the banging sounds were.
I do hope rescue efforts are extended to the migrants off the coast of greece, and am angry and horrified at their mistreatment, and that the media clearly cares less for their fates than that of the billionaires on the sub.
also, while i have you here,
The difference between a submersible and a submarine is not that one is safer. The titan was a submersible that was unsafe, but that is not because it was a submersible.
A submarine (or sub) is a watercraft capable of independent operation underwater.
A submersible is a watercraft designed to operate underwater, usually supported by a nearby surface vessel, platform, shore team or sometimes a larger submarine.
submarines generally dont go as deep as our deepest submersibles, but some can be down there for months at a time bc it is like. a self sufficient Ship. not all submersibles can go crazy deep, but to my knowledge, the only crewed vessels that can go that deep, are submersibles. (Alvin, deepsea challenger, limiting factor, trieste, fendouzhe or "striver").
#toy txt post#titan submersible#if ppl start being annoying on this post. ill turn off reblogs and block all of you. make your own post.#reblog the other ones where people are already being annoying#yes i hate billionaires. but im glad it was a quick death. it was a horrific situation. hope those migrants are given support and help.#i hope oceangate is fined to hell and back and bankrupted and never gets to put anyone in any sort of vehicle ever again#especially not in the ocean. im a little glad that ceo is dead in his own stupid sub im just frustrated he was able to take other ppl with#him. the fact that he was able to operate that unregulated non safety standard meeting ass vehicle and charge people money to ride in it is#fucking insane and unconcioable however you spell that#and now i need to go shower real quick and try to get like. a little over 3hrs of sleep. which will suck but i did accidentally nap for#like? 2 hrs already so it doesnt suck as bad as it could. goodnight please dont be stupid on this post please please please#if you have a hot take on the situation im begging you to hot take it Some Where Else! thank you! good bye#im not gonna bother linking shit feel free to fact check just fuckin. google titan submersible. James Cameron is tossing his 2 cents in now#saw 2 separate articles on that already. thats fine i guess he has been down there in safer vehicles so i guess he can shit talk how unsafe#it is. anyway. saw someone in the comments of a post say it was a submersible bc it was too unsafe to be a submarine and i wanted to start#screaming. thats not what those fucking words mean! at all! god!#irl death#idk what else to tag#behave. bye

I don't care about how rich they're, they're still humans
They are.
Billionares by their very nature exploit and kill people every day - no one gets that rich without a little blood on their hands, so I can see how some people would see it as karma. And I would also see it as karma if they died visiting one of their own factories or got impaled by a faulty design of their own product.
But suffocation in a poor excuse of a submarine is an awful way to go. The submarine pilot also made a poor decision but he was doing his job. Is it his fault his employer put money over his safety? Maybe he knew the risks and made a bad decision anyways.
Then theres that kid. That teenager. I can't stop thinking about him either because even though our lives are astronomically different he's the same age as I am. It's like when Techno died and all I could think about how he was the same age as one of my coworkers. There's a weird sense of confused sadness with learning that someone who died was the same age as you or someone close to you. Death feels so scary and far away and it's hard to reconcile a lost life when they feel so oddly close to your own.
I know that the chances of finding them are slim. But if they are I hope they have to pay back all of the resources that they wasted in the search. I hope there's a way to redistribute the unjustly obtained wealth that those Billionares owned.
And if they are dead, which there's a very good chance they are, I hope it was fast. I hope the hull cracked and it was a quick death to the pressure of the ocean. I don't want to imagine all five of them sitting cramped in the darkness, sweat and the stink of urine filling the room as they inevitably wait for their last stolen breaths of limited oxygen.

I hate when people in the upper middle or upper class say “eat the rich” and then someone chimes in like “you’re the rich”. Yes! I acknowledge my position of privilege! I do not face any of the struggles that come from a position of financial instability, and I never have! I know that I do not have an intimate knowledge of what being poor is like, and for that I am eternally grateful. However, we aren’t TALKING about people who get to live comfortable lives. Most of us (and by that, I mean people who say “eat the rich”) aren’t even talking about the families who have a vacation home, or bought their kid a pony, or the ones with a backyard pool, or even the ones who have like five TVs or a huge house! I, at least personally, am not talking about people who have enough money that they can live in luxury, go to expensive restaurants for special occasions, or spend a year abroad. Yes, that is wealth! Extreme wealth! But that kind of wealth isn’t inherently harmful, because that is the kind of wealth that could have been made without completely fucking everyone else over, or inherited. I still think people in these positions should make donations to charity every so often, and so on. Of course, I think that anyone who has the means to help others should. But frankly, to say that these are the people we need to be burning at the stake, is just idiotic. Eat the rich is a saying most effective when applied to those with excessive wealth. Billionaires- people who can buy companies, people who could own hundreds of vacation homes without making a dent in their wealth. People who can comfortably spend 250,000 big ones a piece to go on a suicide mission to see some wet metal at the bottom of the sea. People like Bezos and Musk who have screwed countless people over, and will continue to do so without batting an eye until the day that they die. And somehow, manage to keep doing so after, as well. There is ABSOLUTELY no way to obtain that amount of money without stepping all over innumerable people, ruining lives, and damaging our planet. People with that much money could never even BEGIN to spend it all. Yes, there are rich people with big houses and swimming pools! There are also rich people who stockpile the amount of money that could end the homelessness crisis and choose to never touch a penny of it. I think that you can live comfortably and acknowledge that the ultra-rich need to be taken down. I think that you can live INDULGENTLY and acknowledge that the ultra-rich need to be taken down. The billions that they hoard aren’t a rainy-day fund, or in case of emergency, or them saving up so they can go to Spain during spring break. They’re just there. They could EASILY change millions of lives and barely make a dent in their wealth. That’s what sets them apart. “The Rich” in “eat The Rich” aren’t just rich people. They are people with enough money to change the world for the better, who choose not to.

hey here's an exciting idea: if you create what you call an "experimental submarine" made out of stuff you wanted to try out maybe you should keep it in the twilight zone max before you do something incredibly stupid like, oh, i dunno, take it to the bottom of the ocean

As much as I despise the rich I am relieved to find out that the Titan imploded rather than sinking to the bottom intact because I cannot Imagine the horror of slowly suffocating to death in the dark knowing there is no way to scream for help

Cold and dark and dying.
Her embrace is gentle and vile.
Unnatural. Unnatural. Unnatural all the same.
a terror born into you from birth, the key to swimming in your veins. Natural as the will to live, natural to flee and thrash and fight.
Unnatural is the flesh and agony paid for your comforts. Unnatural is the monstrosities you had ripped from the ground, the dead lining your pockets.
Packed in a pill, comes her embrace.
You stole her hand, sought out her grasp with your own.
Immortal is the fool till his demise of her hands.
His hand.
And to weep is to die, and to scream is to die, and to fight is to kill, and to flee- but where to flee packed in a stray bullet- and- russian roulette: 5/6 bullets 5 in a bullet- vile unholy slow.
Her embrace is dark and gentle.
Roulette with a blindfold kills all the same.
As the beat of your heart, beat against the walls, walls so tight you’re hunched, as the beat of your heart-
Unholy;
Dark is the embrace.

the only thing i will say about the titan, specifically the reactions of poor and working class people, is that i don’t blame anyone for finding some degree of humour or poeticism in the implosion. for once (just once!!!) the rich cutting corners in safety just to make the largest profits actually blew up in their faces, instead of ours. it shouldn’t have happened and i’m always sorry to hear of death and loss in such preventable (and also horrifying) circumstances — especially that of a teenager — but this also applies primarily to cases of factory explosions and mine cave-ins and mall collapses etc. where the death tolls are considerably higher, the victims much less wealthy. there’s a sense of irony here. that’s all

Everyone’s joking about that lost submarine accident thing but I can’t stop thinking about how horrifying being stuck on a submarine with a limited oxygen supply must be like that’s genuinely so fucking terrifying knowing your time is that limited and you’re gonna die in such an awful way (assuming they’re still alive 😭)

After being informed by my friends and tumblr about the Submarine Situation my stupid rotted dumbass brain can’t stop thinking that if the rich dumbasses are rescued while we definitely shouldn’t ever let them touch a submarine again for obvious reasons I’m also thinking they shouldn’t touch a sub in case they go Torres mode and try to use a submarine to nuke a country.
