re: that stupid poll...im glad we won and im glad it was so close but im getting war flashbacks with the massive moral superiority complex certain klainers have about being mature and understanding about their ship unlike those toxic brittana stans girl I'm too old to start shit over this but all I will say is you guys are no fucking picnic either you know that right. both these ships are iconic in fandom history and it's a dumb poll for god's sake. you can dish it out and moral police literal 15 year olds over their ship for years but some kid will make a dumb joke about "klaine winning this poll is misogyny after brittana had to share their wedding" and y'all will lose it and refuse to shut up about brittana stans being god's curse on gaykind. im sorry but it's obviously a joke and i say this as a blaine kinnie and someone who likes klaine. we have heard so so so much shit while literally just minding our business from your fandom for years and we're not the ones who think we own this site and this fandom. being in a fandom will mean having to hear people be immature and make fun of your ship. on both sides. y'all have been doing it to us for years. calm down

as a system within the fandom, the way 0909 as a ship tends to be portrayed makes me uniquely uncomfortable.
it's not even that you can't ship two headmates within the same system– that is something that can happen, and i know systems where they do have romantic relationships between headmates. the thing i take issue with is how it specifically takes john's role within the kayano system as a protector, and turns it into something inherently romantic. it's very common to hear people talking about the devotion, between them, how john would do anything for mikoto, and making that the centrepoint of the ship. and.. i don't really know. that's normal for a protector in a system, and it's not a romantic thing at all, so much as the protector being formed as a response to trauma. it's.. a little weird, honestly.
i'm not even saying here that anyone who ships 0909 is inherently romanticizing systemhood– at least, not intentionally. however, i do think it's important for people– especially singlets– to take a step back and analyze how they speak about 0909.

POSSIBLY TRIGGERING CONTENT AHEAD. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
Tumblr media
And I am the idiot with the painted face
In the corner, taking up space
But when he walks in, I am loved
I am loved...?
Once more, I cannot stress enough that this depiction is not meant to be perceived in a positive light whatsoever - despite the drawing being referenced from a painting typically associated with romance.
The intention was to convey how in that particular scenario, Hunter's perception of reality and his relationship with Belos is warped from his inner turmoils resulting both from that unhealthy infatuation as well as the abuse he endured.
As he's desperate for any positive emotional stimuli, he clings onto what little vulnerability and intimacy Belos offers him - glamorizing it in his brain and treating it as evidence that Belos isn't actually horrible, without realising that they are a form of abuse too, designed to keep him loyal and in line.
And almost last but not least, I am still not a licensed professional in psychology. All my knowledge on abuse comes from personal and thus to some degree subjective observation of both fiction and reality, you know the drill.
Image Description : A painting of Belos and Hunter from The Owl House, morbidly referencing the painting "The Kiss" by Gustav Klimt. Much like the original painting, it is colored mostly in yellows, oranges and warm browns.
To the right, Hunter is shown wearing his Golden Guard uniform, his white cape adorned with patterns consisting of orange dots and brown vines shaped into spirals. He looks off to the side with an expression of both exhaustion and bitter fulfillment at the same time, as he's slightly smiling. His left hand is gently laid over Belos' hand and wrist, which is holding him by the chin in what he believes to be an affectionate gesture.
To the left stands an alternate version of Belos that does not exist in canon, as he appears significantly younger with brown hair, with his blemishes being colored blue : referencing his initial storyboard version.
He is wearing a black robe with a white cape and brown pauldrons over it, resembling the clothes he was first shown in. The cape is adorned with rectangular orange, white and brown patterns, momentarily covered up with circular cross-hatching : also brown colored.
Despite holding Hunter's face by his chin and by the back of his head in what appears to be a tender and intimate gesture, he stares down at Hunter with a neutral expression that borders on being resentful : to which Hunter is oblivious. His left eye, which is obscured by the shadows, emits a slight blue glow.
The background meanwhile is painted over with light brown colored spirals, waves and yellow dots that are overlaid on top of a yellow and golden background. The patterns form no specific shape. End description.

Not the spiderverse art book restarting the dying down Hobie age discourse. With the Japanese version implying he’s a ‘young boy’(I think that’s what it was either way either way) and the book saying ‘he’s much older than miles..’(smth like that either way either way) and it’s like seriously? Again? AGAIN?
The directors said it’s up to interpretation. And the only reason(w/ the exclusion of the people thinking he’s like 30 cause that’s weird and gross, re-examine some racial biases)that people are so adamant he is or isn’t a minor is because of shipping! Whether it’s with one of the spider teens or with OCs or justifying self shipping it’s weird! It’s weird that that’s the reason people are going nuts over this shit and dying on their respective hills. And let people have their HCs holyshit.
And to reiterate: it’s not proshipping/pedoshit if someone HCs Hobie as a teen and ships them with one of the spider teens. It’s not necessarily fetishization and is not pedoshit if people HC him as a young adult and do self ships or whatever else goes on there.
It’s fandom let people fuck around. Something doesn’t have to be justified as morally wrong for you not to like it. Stop trying to force your own Head Canons, key word HEAD as in the canon in your head, onto other people.
Sorry for the rant I just cannot believe it’s still going.

when I go in the ao3 tag for a fandom where there are characters that are siblings I usually preemptively block the incest tag bc I don’t want to see that shit. but you would not believe how many people are posting fics where they ship riku i7 with his twin brother tenn and not tagging it as incest. is it bc they don’t have the same surname? it’s hard to engage with this series at all without knowing that they are brothers. you know what you’re doing and you need to be tagging appropriately so that I don’t have to know what you’re doing

heartbreaking: this incest ship is so popular and is such a widespread fanon that, despite you blocking literally every tag associated with it, people throw it into their posts or their fics without tagging it

i can’t figure out what you actually ship
aside from the obvious otp/ot3, i have the heart of a multishipper in that i'm neutral on most things until i'm not lol
honestly, a large chunk of what i reblog that's not the otp/ot3 is for the mutuals who i know like those ships. i feel like those of us who don't rlly vibe with The Big Two in the fandom ought to stick together so i try to spread a little peace and love on the dash when i can

So is the implication from that headcanon is that Belos sexually a*saulted Hunter? If yes, why did he do it? Is it like a chain of harm thing, like he himself was abused as a child, or was it just to be a prick?
The short answer would be yes, but the long version is a bit more complex than that.
Tumblr media
More in-depth, but possibly triggering answer, below the cut
Okay, so. I'll begin with a disclaimer again.
The Belos pictured above is not canon Belos, and never was supposed to be. He exists solely as a device to explore an alternative scenario that would not make sense for canon Belos, as well as the weight behind it.
The main difference between this Belos and the canon one, is that he does not perceive Hunter as his nephew - to him, he was simply the boy he made specifically for being available at the snap of a finger. The abuse depicted in canon was clearly based on familial bonds, so I wanted to stray from that.
Disclaimer over.
So. Let's begin with Hunter.
While he is certainly a victim, assault isn't exactly the word I'd use to describe the specific type of sexual abuse he had gone through. To me, assault always implied something sudden, violent and unwanted from the get go - you know it's wrong from the start.
And that's precisely the opposite of Hunter's situation as depicted in the fic.
He's what I like to call an Unsympathetic Victim - the kind that most people doubt when they describe their story, the kind that doesn't fit into the convenient, tasteful or sometimes fetishized box of what being a victim means. Sucks, but unfortunately, it still happens everywhere. Those people, though their experiences and feelings are viewed unsavory or even sometimes disgusting by society, are still just as valid as those approved by it. Trauma isn’t a fucking measuring contest, and that’s that.
As for what that exactly entails...
Hunter, due to being isolated from peers and other adults, ended up developing an unhealthy infatuation with Belos, which resulted both from him being the only "good" adult in his life, as well as intrusive thoughts based in his already existing trauma, on top of teenage hormonal changes. Of course, he had no idea that it was wrong. He had no reference points whatsoever on what was right and wrong.
At some point he had admitted to those feelings and normal for his age desires - which, unfortunately to him, Belos decided to entertain. I won't go too much into detail, but eventually, Belos and Hunter's already awful relationship ended up gaining a sexual layer to it.
Here is where the "unsympathetic" part starts :
Due to his lack of proper education and severe emotional manipulation from Belos, Hunter never considered himself a victim. Right up until he started watching that movie with Luz, he thought it was perfectly normal for a teenager and an adult to be in a sexual relationship. Of course, for him the adult in question turned out to be a genocidal maniac and narcissist, but he never hated those more intimate parts. If anything, he was always happy to participate as he did enjoy it, as ugly as it may sound.
Of course, his logic skips on the parts where Belos guilt-tripped consent out of him, or that he was afraid of the disappointment that would follow after openly saying no, which as we know resulted in physical abuse in canon. All he knew was that he trusted Belos and that the act itself was physically pleasurable for both of them, so it couldn't have actually been something wrong. That it couldn't have been abuse as well.
That is, again, right up until he was proven otherwise by Luz, to which he reacted with brief panic then shutting down. Not only was that last illusion of normalcy taken away from him, now he believes it was his fault for having those thoughts to begin with. If there was one thing Belos taught him well, it was the art of self-victim blaming.
But in shorter words...
No. Technically speaking Hunter was not assaulted - rather, he was groomed and coerced, and mayhaps gaslit. While those two situations are both sexual abuse, they are two different kinds of it and that kind of distinction is important.
Now, as for Belos...
I personally do not like writing him with a "chain of harm" trope, as likely as it might've been, because I feel like it defeats the point of him consciously making the decision to do the wrong thing for over 400 years.
However, reducing it to him just "being a prick" misses the point as well.
Canon Belos first and foremost, wanted to have complete and utter authority and control over Hunter, while also demanding devotion, adoration and loyalty from him - which applies to This version of Belos as well.
So, when Hunter ended up coming forward with his intrusive thoughts and desires, to Belos it was an opportunity for two things :
Truly becoming Hunter's number one everything - further preventing him from finding someone else to possibly prioritize over him, which is why in canon he detested the sight of Flapjack so much, on top of him being Caleb's/Evelyn's palisman. Anyone from the outside of his influence was a threat to his control over Hunter. So, with him being Hunter's God, mentor, caretaker, superior and then """lover""", he was This close to stopping the redemption arc from happening. Alas, Flapjack and Luz still came around.
Satisfying physical urges without having to look too far, and without the risk of landing with someone who could stab him in the back. Hunter just so happened to be the perfect fit : willing, obedient, not ugly and always available. Sometimes, that's all there is to it with abusers.
In shorter words, again :
It was more about asserting his control and blowing off steam while at it, not just being an asshole.
Again, I cannot stress enough that this headcanon/interpretation/whatever is NOT meant to be in any way titillating or romanticizing sexual abuse. It is, first and foremost, a character study that’s based and inspired both by personal experiences and observations of both fiction and real life - in hopes of partially bringing light to often overlooked or stigmatized effects and types of trauma. In case you were wondering, no I am still not a therapist or any other kind of licensed professional, so do Not take my word as 100% credible and without fault as I am only human. That will be all for now.

I don’t understand how Endeavor and Overhaul have stans and simps and SIs, but it’s not my job to dictate who stans and simps and ships, so whatever. I don’t like it, but I don’t have to, and like any rational person, I’m capable of blocking and filtering tags whether it be on Tumblr or Ao3. “Don’t like don’t read” started getting slapped onto posts and fics for a reason, and half of it is cause some people have no goddamn common sense. Like why subject yourself to stuff that you clearly don’t like and clearly wasn’t made for you? Walk on dumbass.
There are reasons I refuse to read certain stories and one of them is that I’m smart enough to understand I don’t want to traumatize myself. Have any of these people considered that reading something you hate just to be angry about it is both stupid and probably a form of self harm? Get help people. Don’t scream at random people on the internet because they ship two people you don’t like together or actively find problematic as a pair (eg Dramione, Drarry, Bakudeku, Jonerys, The Doctor/The Master, etc). Go to therapy and touch grass.

as soon as it's summer and i'm medicated again i NEED to write a series of essays covering my experiences switching from the broader social sphere of fandom which predominantly ships m/f ships to the social sphere of fandom which predominantly ships m/m, because i feel like a lot of what we say about the other social sphere is simultaneously true and false at the same time, and i've literally never seen anyone talk about it ever
#the m/m shipping sphere is different from the f/f shipping sphere but both are honestly like lowkey disdained by the m/f sphere#well okay the f/f sphere is lowkey disdained while the m/m sphere is like highkey disdained#but at the same time It Is True that the m/f shippers can get pretty bullied by people pushing their m/m ships!!!!#so it's like a historical beef; esp when considering the fact that a lot of the times our tastes in ships can be pretty informed#by the ships our friends/fan community members are getting into in regards to new canons#i wouldn't be surprised if it was common for some nebulous hypothetical concept of an m/m shipper to be like#'oh yeah in this us v. them argument the 'us' is ofc us gay people [m/m and f/f shippers together]'#but i do think it is worth drawing a distinction btwn the m/m shipping spheres n the f/f shipping spheres#many m/m shippers like f/f ships passively; i don't see a lot of f/f shippers get super actively engaged in m/m pairs even on the side#as a result their results on ao3 feel more likely to have a significant % of genuine slush#like in my experience looking through m/m ship tags it's full of slush (referring to fic that's just not to my tastes or poorly written)#but for the most part if a ship is tagged it at least plays a role or shows up in a fic#but if i'm looking for a f/f ship on ao3 god fucking heaven help me; i have to filter so hard it cuts out >50% of the results#and when looking for m/f ships back in the day it was usually shit like 'one-sided' or 'past' or just incredibly minor passing mentions#like complain all you want abt having to go through a massive slush pile of an ao3 tag listing for an m/m ship#but at least we don't have to literally just come together as a community to make an ao3 collection#just to have a repository of fics that are just ABOUT the pairing tagged w/o being forced to grovel through slush like that#like not even 'these are the best fics for this pairing' just 'these are the fics for this pairing'#also. my hot take. is that a lot of the times people who ship *exclusively* m/f ships Are being kinda homophobic to the m/m shippers#like at the very least the way they talk abt the ships or argue with the shippers sounds like it draws on homophobic rhetoric#like the m/f shippers themselves are not necessarily homophobic people. but. like. it's nuanced. there are trends. i have many thoughts#(meanwhile the gen social sphere exists beyond most of my own experiences but god do i feel bad for them when searching through ao3)#also like. this should go w/o saying. but i'm not trying to categorize individual people into 'belonging' to any one specific sphere#but we as people just generally have our fave spots to hang out n those spots have distinctive traits n flavors#n while we're in there commonalities in the people chilling there start to emerge#if we go to a different spot bc we like being there then different things will be had in common#we're looking at strength of overlap here; not individuals#花話#anyway obviously i have many many thoughts on this subject. this is bc it fascinates me greatly bc i don't see it talked abt#bc for the most part you don't really see people into m/m who used to really like m/f ships the way i did

do you think you could make a general tag for actual blood-related incest posts? :( I really enjoy your blog but that’s a genuine squick for me and it’s really hard to avoid when it’s untagged.
sure, anon! i'll use #incest
i already tag ships, so u should also def blacklist #analuke and #anaobiluke!

fr what is the etiquette of tagging shippy fics/art/whatever with the fandom itself. im divided about it because on the one hand, ppl looking for the ship will be mainly in the ship tags anyway, AND i’ve seen people get annoyed that they wanna enjoy other aspects of the fandom but the tags are full of shipping. & while i think complaining about smut or romo fic existing is a stupid hill to die on, it’s also fair to want to keep the main tag for other things. however, if someone has got the fandom tag itself blocked i wouldnt wanna take away their opportunity to filter either...... truly i don’t know what is the best course of action here.......
