It’s been awhile since I’ve updated this blog. Sorry for the ugly pics, I’m working on getting a macro lens soon.
Since last time, I’ve fought a hydra outbreak with No Planaria, I had a massive population boom of shrimp just when I thought they would never breed and I swapped out the big rocks for a bunch of driftwood which budged the pH from about 7.6 to 7.0.
In fact, almost immediately when I removed those rocks, the shrimp started reproducing. No one liked to use the cave anyway so it won’t be missed.
The big bit of driftwood in the back has had a few bits of Anubias wedged into it or glued on, but it’s a recent addition so I’ll be decorating it much more soon. I love the fluffiness of aquatic moss. In my next post I’ll show the weird home made contraption I used to cultivate willow moss and riccia fluitans.
the progress of my bookshelf tank! the last pic was taken this past weekend. dates are in the image descriptions.
it’ll take some time for my creeping fig to grow in again :( but in this iteration, I wanted to make the land-water transition even smoother, and completely switch out the sand because I was never really satisfied with how it looked.
"Tankie" refers to people who glorify violent autocratic communist regimes. Tankies dismiss all criticism of these regimes as "western propaganda."
Tankies deny the ecocide and starvation that occurred under Mao and Stalin. They deny that 20th century communist movements were as ecocidal as capitalism. 20th century communists and socialists deliberately ignored ecological concerns. Marx himself wrote about ecology but 20th century movements deliberately sidelined that writing. They regarded those ideas as unimportant. Books on ecology like Silent Spring were restricted by many communist and socialist regimes. And so China and the USSR destroyed the ecology of half the planet while Capitalists destroyed the other half.
An ecological economist knows that growth economics is universally destructive regardless of who owns the means of production. An ecological economist knows how to engage with history and science.
A tankie only knows how to engage with propaganda and ideology.
There should be zero overlap between solarpunk and tankblr.
Hey fishblr, I'm in need of some advice. I'm wanting to get back into fishkeeping but it's been so long I'm basically starting over as a beginner.
I'm looking at getting either a 20-gallon or 29-gallon tank, depending on where I decide to put it, and while past experience tells me I'd absolutely have to build up to it I'd ultimately like to have a nicely-balanced community tank of both small fish and critters, with one or two live plants in there as well.
While I have an idea of the kinds of fish and creatures I'd like to keep (and in general what tends to get along with what), I'm not quite sure how many of each would be appropriate or what would make for a nice setup. So I'd like some suggestions.
Primarily I'd like to keep rasboras and tetras, possibly some guppies as well although I'm worried about them breeding. I'd also like to possibly keep some ghost shrimps and a snail or two for helping to keep algae (and possibly pest snails) under control - the snails would likely be the last additions to the tank (either assassin snails or apple/mystery snails depending on needs).
So for the most part, (relatively) low-maintenence and docile fish.
Anyways ADHD over-explaining aside, I'd like some advice on actually stocking the tank. I know the general rule of thumb is 1 gallon per inch of fish, but I also know that's not exactly a hard and fast rule either and I'm unsure of how the shrimps and snails would factor into that, if at all. I'd also like some advice/opinions on the guppies, particularly in regards to the 2:1 f/m setup (which from my understanding is the least stressful for them) and the frequency of which I will be dealing with baby guppies.
Other stocking recommendations or advice would be welcome as well.
Anyways yeah I'd appreciate any advice you have to give me; I really enjoyed keeping fish when I was younger and I'd love to get back into it.
