This balance is really what I strive for when characters do stupid things or make fucked up choices. I hope that as much as we disagree with them and want to yell at them, we can also see how they reached that point and empathize with them to a certain extent.

I think part of the beauty of fiction is when you can recognize some of your negative qualities in the characters and thus have a better ability to identify them and mold them into something positive in real life. hello! i have a question abt your toxic megumi fic :) ! it may be a stupid question if so i apologize and you don’t have to answer this but it’s been on mind since i’ve read it, so megumi doesn’t love the reader if not how does he feel towards her? sorry once again if it’s a stupid question 😭!

He actually is very much in love with the reader but it’s such a toxic and controlling love it can definitely be misconstrued as other feelings. Megumi is very very very insecure in that particular story I wrote because he knows the reader is very beautiful and popular and worries she’ll leave him eventually. But he’s also very smart and because of his manipulative nature he knows how to get her exactly where he wants. He wants her to need him and be addicted to him and she unfortunately plays right into his hand every time. They both cheat on each other bc they are both super toxic but in the end he knows he can get away with murder when it comes to the reader because she’ll never be able to give up on him and how much she loves him. It would take a huge influence to make her leave him, it’s more or less impossible. He cheats bc he knows she’ll be angry but ultimately it scares her more than anything that she’ll lose him. She’ll cheat as an act of revenge but she and Megumi both know she’ll never find a good enough replacement for him no matter what.

So yeah in short, he does love her and he’s just a horrendous prick about it.

And if the end of the fic is the part that confused you, he didn’t say it back because he rarely does! He’ll say it at random times that give her hope that they have a good relationship but it’s, again, just to keep her under control. She worries when he doesn’t say it back to her and makes her want to make him love her back. So it’s just a never ending cycle really 😭

Nonny, I need you to know that I have been unable to stop thinking about this idea since I saw this ask, and, more than that, I love this concept so much that I am tempted to go back and rewrite the morning after scene I already have just to make this a fanfic reality

ohhhh hmm this is a tough choice. but i think im going to go snapping turtle. there is something so joyous running across one of them (usually helping them cross pavement so they dont get hit by cars) but also one time crossing right behind my backyard! well... what counts as a backyard for a apt complex XD but i amazed my neighbors when i picked her (very likely, it was later in the season and likely traveling to lay eggs iirc) up to cross the road. She wasn't small but she didnt even pee on me! i was absolutely chuffed.

How do you come up with the plot and plan it out? Do you already know what’s going to happen all the way through to the end or do you just wing it as you go? With writing, usually an opening line smacks me in the face and then the idea just doesn’t let go. And once I know how the story opens, I know where it has to end and a few big moments in between that make sense or help flesh it out, but I try not to do much planning because I like being surprised!

As for the jokes, they’re typically just banter that happens? A vibe and a flow once I’m in there writing the scene. So there’s not really a way to plan for that unless you write out all the dialogue in advance which, like, is just writing but without all the describey bits lol And the observations or narrative-type jokes typically happen when I phrase something oddly or give myself an odd mental image, but then my brain gets stuck on it, so I just lean into the oddness and write it in as a joke. (Think the screaming slingshot monkey toy line, or the entire Yelena-themed braincell resort (patent pending.))

#the entirety of my outline for this first Vegas arc was basically: #1) they go to Vegas #2) they have to somehow get in with The Tracksuit #3) Things go Wrong #4) They somehow make it out alive and also they’re married now #5) Also set up everything else in the rest of the fic #so not a ton of detail lmao #I like untangling knots during the writing process #like I know the big moments of the rest of the fic so I can kind of lay the groundwork or foreshadow those now #and then untangle more knots later down the line once I reach them #hey nonny nonny #this was a very nice start to the morning thank you!!! #what a sweetheart! hope you have a wonderful day! ☺️

So much of his life is for display purposes only, he wonders if the people in it are just there to help him accessorize.

He can't pretend he doesn't favor the ones who find him dazzling. The people outside of the tournament -- at his father's company, in his modeling career, on the internet -- who look at him with stars in their eyes.

But the fact was, despite Benimaru being very social, and close to many people, he wasn't sure he could say many were close to him. Not for lack of trying, necessarily, but...There weren't many he allowed behind the curtain. Of the rare few who managed to get in, he can't be sure how many actually wanted to be there, or if they just ended up there, due to some shared miserable circumstance. And, if he only valued the people who made him feel like a god, why would he fight so hard for Shingo, just to be enthusiastically passed over whenever a Kusanagi was nearby?

Why would he care so much about Shun'ei and Meitenkun, who he's still sure would've rather been on Kyo's team?

Why would he pursue women like Chizuru, or Leona? Women who clearly had bigger things to think about than sweet talk and starlight. Women to whom, even in an idealized scenario, he'd always be secondary at best?

Why on Earth would he be friends with Goro and Kyo? Goro never fed into his ego, and Kyo could hardly compliment anyone without sarcasm. His best friends barely liked him. Loved him, of course, that he couldn't deny. But they only barely liked him.

Did that mean his care was genuine? Did their disinterest just motivate him to work until was favored? Did he like them because they didn't care as much, and that made them harder to disappoint?

All things he'd never dare ask out loud. God forbid he show doubt, or fear, or uncertainty...unless he was bleeding out in some 11th hour hail mary with five other, equally uncertain people and the obligatory undead deity and none of them would ever talk about it again.

And, if showing up for a fight like that over and over again didn't mean he cared, about something, he wasn't sure what he could ever do to prove the instinct existed in him.

I was worried sick, and was trying to get answers outta him, but he just kept laughing it off, scoffing almost, even when I was trying to patch him up. So I said “fine, fuck you, do whatever the hell you want shuji” and he grabbed my arm so tight. It left bruises when he pulled me back in. We were both breathing heavy from yelling, but our eyes weren’t angry. He leaned in first, and that first touch was feather light, barely a kiss. He pulled back almost like it burned, but I was quick and grabbed a handful of his shirt to kiss him harder. The rest is history <33
