I got very emotional this week & wrote 1800 words of professor harry j. potter headcanons.

Harry takes a year off after the war. Spends time with Ron, Neville, Ginny, and Luna, helping McGonagall rebuild Hogwarts. The Ministry is still run by the same people who buckled under Voldemort— even with Kingsley at the head, the massive body of the bureaucracy remains largely the same. They offer Harry the opportunity to skip Auror training. To get right into his job, his dream.

But it feels wrong. Every day, when Harry walks through the walls of Hogwarts, helping to reassemble it, to add little bits of his own magic — he keeps thinking about the future, and the past too. He thinks about Lupin, and how Hogwarts gave him a life he never would have had. He thinks about Sirius. It wasn't the Ministry that stopped Sirius from being a Death Eater. It was the school, the boys he met and the men they became. Harry thinks about the DA. How it made him happier than hunting Horcruxes ever could, and how without it, they never would've won the war. And he thinks about Dumbledore. Imperfect, sometimes callous, but still. Dumbledore.

And then one day McGonagall calls him into her office. It looks different than it did in Dumbledore’s day. Snape’s reign darkened it, and the battle added brutality. But the portraits still smile and wink behind her, and Harry sits down in a plush chair, feeling just as small as he ever had. McGonagall thanked him. Said the school would be reopening next year, with all its repairs and modifications and improvements. Harry had told her about the Ministry’s offer. He knew she'd always promised to help him become an Auror, and he thought she'd be glad to hear it. But she didn’t say anything about it. She just looked at him, her eyebrow raising, and told him she was looking for a new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher. Harry blinked. She offered the job to him, young as he may be, trusting that he'd be able to handle the post. And then Harry did something he'd never expected — he said yes.

“Of course,” McGonagall said, looking down at the table, that rare spark in her eyes— “We will also be needing a new head of Gryffindor House.”

Harry walks into his office, the office he'd seen occupied by Quirrel and Lockhart and Lupin and Moody and Umbridge and Snape. He sets his wand down on the desk.

And in that moment, Harry has his final victory against Voldemort. He breaks the curse that Tom Riddle put on the position, and he becomes Hogwarts’ longest-serving DADA professor in more than two centuries. (His streak is only broken when he becomes Headmaster).

(Hagrid cried when he heard Harry was going to be a Professor alongside him. He hugged Harry so tightly, Harry could swear his ribs cracked. Harry’s first few years of teaching are odd. The school is still half in shambles, and many parents are still not ready to return their children there. Harry’s classes are small. In some of them, there are not even enough students to justify splitting them by House. His 5th, 6th, and 7th years are filled with older kids who had to drop out when Voldemort took hold of the school. Half of his first years are 12 and 13 year-old Muggleborns who never received their letters, who came to school in the aftermath of a war they never experienced. Harry is honest with them. He takes the same approach he did with the DA, focusing not just on building their knowledge of curses but also their community, their resilience, and their belief in themselves.

He spends half his day teaching, half his day learning. He scours old library books and works to learn more, so he can teach more. He walks down to Hogsmeade and meets Hermione and Ron at the Three Broomsticks. Hermione is still working ceaselessly on behalf of the Muggleborns. Ron moved in with George more than a year ago, helping him to adjust to life without his twin. Together, they've just begun to make people laugh again. Harry and Hagrid have weekly teas. He gossips with the other professors in the staff room. Sometimes even McGonagall joins in, and the two of them laugh as they employ their trademark snark.

As the years go on and Harry reaches his mid-twenties, the culture changes. The students don't know the war, not really. The school is rebuilt. There are changes, of course. Hogwarts is a living space — it evolves. And the teachers help it along too, casting new spells to make the school more magical.

The tapestry that revealed the kitchen was destroyed during the battle, and they decided to replace it with a beautiful portrait of Dobby, a free elf. It took forever to finish because Harry kept insisting the painter add more clothes. The other portraits like Dobby, but they hate when he comes into their paintings because none of their frames can contain Dobby’s wobbling tower of tea-cozy hats. (To Hermione’s delight, there is a marked increase in elves demanding wages after being influenced day-after-day by the Dobby painting)

There were holes blasted through castle walls and structures reshaped by rubble. Instead of rebuilding them all perfectly, Harry created new passages through and out of the school, covered by little landmarks and opened by charms that Hermione helped him discover. It takes him months to figure out how to edit the Marauder's Map and add these new paths.

Each year, when the new first-years come, Harry’s classes are derailed by a string of questions. To these kids, he is a hero of near-mythic proportions, a celebrity in every sense of the word. Even the Muggleborns know he is famous from the talk on the train, even if they don't understand why. Harry quickly develops a way to deal with this curiosity. He stops the questions before they can really get moving. He states the basics, mostly to explain to the Muggleborns but also so people will stop asking him if he really killed Voldemort by using Ravenclaw’s diadem to read his mind. Harry offers them a compromise: if they can go a whole year without asking personal questions, he will allow them to ask as many questions as they want on the last day of lessons. The students always agree. Then Harry tells them what he told the DA, that first meeting in the Hogs Head, about how fighting the Dark Arts is about more than the number of counterjinxes you know. Then he starts the teaching.

By the last day of their lessons, the first years have usually stopped seeing Harry as some mythic hero. They ask him questions about the war, but they're more serious, more muted. They don't want some fantastical version of what happened — they just want to understand.

Of course, not everyone wants to ask their questions in front of the class. Some kids, they still feel the effects of the war as though it were occurring. The orphans, whose hands shake as they hold a cup of tea in Harry’s office, who ask lots of questions but mostly just want to be reminded that their lives can turn out alright. The Muggleborns who still face hate. The Purebloods whose parents fought for Voldemort, who were never told the war was wrong, who trust Professor Potter and are struggling to reconcile that with their family’s vision of the world. Harry is not perfect, and he's certainly no poet, but after trial and a lot of effort, he starts to know what to say. He starts to be for his students what Lupin was for him.

(The decades go on, and eventually, fighting Voldemort is only one of many things that Harry is known for. Students forget. Harry thinks of Dumbledore, and how he never even thought to ask him about his battle with Grindelwald).

Actually, as time goes on, students become more impressed by Professor Potter’s friends than by Harry himself. Harry is just their teacher — but he knows Ginny Weasley, the famous Quidditch player! And Hermione Granger, the brightest witch of their age! Etc. etc.!

Harry is dedicated to creating honest memories of the war. He never portrays himself as the only hero. He and McGonagall create a memorial for those lost at the Battle of Hogwarts. His office contains photos/portraits of all his loved ones, and he explains who they are when students ask. Sirius’s portrait gives great advice but he’s rarely around — he spends most of his time bounding through the halls, having spirited adventures in each new portrait’s strange world. He often drags Lupin along. Lupin is remembered by dozens of students as the man who made Professor Potter into a teacher. Harry frames a few of the James & Lily photos that Hagrid sent him.

As Head of Gryffindor House, Harry continues to follow Quidditch very closely. He works hard to treat students of every House the same, but he can't help but be a little easier on homework around the time of a big match. He remembers how grueling those practices can be.

Professor Sprout retires. Neville had spent the last 20 years running the medicinal greenhouse at St. Mungo’s and dealing with various plant-caused magical maladies. (He also visited his parents every week). McGonagall invites him to take over Sprout’s position, and he eagerly accepts. He’s still awkward and nerdy, but he’s confident now.

Harry and Neville can always be found sitting next to each other at the staff table. Harry brags to his students about Professor Longbottom’s heroic exploits, and Neville gets embarrassed.

When Harry becomes Headmaster, he offers the Head of House position to a giddy and disbelieving Neville. Neville isn’t quite as concerned about the Gryffindor Quidditch team as Harry would like him to be, but there's no one better at making students feel like they belong.

Harry teaches all of his seventh-years the Patronus Charm. Those are his favorite lessons of the year.

21 Day Detox | Last few days

I am on the last 3 days of the 21-day Mind Cleansing Detox, and also a few days away for the big finale, the Vipassana retreat in the north of Belgium.

Feeling good. Better. Stronger.

Somethings are going really well, other parts I have failed pretty miserably at. I added a few things, and didn’t even attempt to continue others.

But that’s what this was all about: changing the channel, getting a new perspective, and doing some substantial self-healing.

I will write a post at the end of the detox to talk a bit more about the Vipasana, and how I did with the detox, but read below for some of the highlights, surprises, and challenges so far.

1. The Highlights:

Yoga: My muscular stamina has improved ten-fold.

I feel so much more love for my physical body, and the shapes it can hold and strength it can easily build.

Also, having the Gaia app makes it so easy.

I would highly recommend throwing down the €10 for it, great teachers, great classes, so much flexibility.

Mediation: Realizing meditation is a practice.

It is a daily thing you go back to.

It is at times the worst, and at times the best, part of my day.

Sound bowl healer: I have been going once a week to a healer, who works with sound bowl massage, and this is really transformative.

But I feel this needs to be a whole other post.

It is very deep work.

Sun: So much fun in the sun.

Getting out in it every day has made me love Brussels more, and develop a sunnier outlook on life.

Luckily, there was a ton of sun this month— I feel recharged and my skin looks great.

Nutrition: Brand new appreciation for living, green, food!

The detox is also inspiring a deeper look into the why behind local and seasonal.

Turns out the benefits don’t stop at environment and ecology, but that our bodies have evolved to take nutrients at different parts of the year to help us survive the seasons.

For example, in the spring we see a lot of sprouting things like; green onions, leeks, artichokes, fennel, broccoli, beetroots, and sprouting greens, all which help clean out and support our liver, which regulates the fat our body accumulates to keep us warm over the winter.

I am in no hurry to go back to stogey starches and fats, and will continue to eat predominately seasonal—super looking forward to the abundance of summer.

(Although I didn’t realize how much I would miss dark chocolate....!)

2. The Surprises

Social media: What a giant time suck!

Those first few days, I got twice as much work done, read a book, cleaned my flat every day...I was amazed, I knew I was wasting time, but didn’t realize just *how much time* I sink into Facebook, Netflix and Instagram.

Solitude training: I thought this would be relatively easy, but in fact, it is tremendously difficult.

To be honest, I was surprised to realize how social I am.

I kind of thought I was a bit more private (and like a lone wolf,) and this would be pretty straightforward—not the case.

And I am ok with that.

3. The Challenges:

Consistency: This is really hard.

Some days I didn’t feel like bounding out of bed to do yoga and meditate, and it was challenging to keep it up.

I am really glad I had the checklist, because, without it, I am certain I would have given up some days.

Nutrition: I definitely got salad fatigue, but it wasn’t just because of the greens, but the lack of great fatless dressings.

After a while, everything ended up tasting like mustard+apple cider vinegar, or soy sauce.

Which are great ingredients, but not really a flavour-ly sustainable thing to do on a daily basis.

Art: I thought art was going to be easy peasy, but actually creating something every day is very challenging.

There were even a few days there where I, admittedly, didn’t try my best.

Or try at all.

I am disappointed by this.

I think I will have to revisit this challenge.

Alcohol-free: Damn. I love beer.

I don’t miss wine, or spirits, or port, not one bit.

But I do miss Belgian beer.

One night I was up late on Wikipedia looking up the history of gueuze.

When walked passed the Brussels Beer Project, and it was open and bustling, I did a Charlie-Brown-walk away.

I went to the Via Via Cafe with a friend, where a tea was €3 and beer was €2, and I thought “This sucks. I hate tea.” And then I had to watch him drink a beer.

So, maybe more moderation, but I can’t see myself saying “Goodbye beer”. Sorry little liver.

This being said, socially it is not necessary, and never having a hangover is pretty great, so maybe sticking to a few glasses a month (week?) would be much better for me.

All in all, so far it has been good, challenging, and interesting, and I am learning a lot. Looking forward to seeing how I feel at the end.

I go outside and stand beneath the 100-year-old trees that are dark silhouettes against the starry, deep blue sky, and I listen to the strange chirping of the tawny owls, a sound that is very un-owl-like. The Norwegian neighbours are singing. I long for singing at a party with friends too, even if I doubt anyone but my kids long for my singing in return.

All these dreams are of quiet, connected places, and I scurry between them in my mind as if I was in a hurry. Maybe I long for them because I have lost them and have to recreate them. They are mine when I can make them mine, when I can buy their luxury. These things that feel like the most natural thing.

I have spent the day speaking about tech and devices. Thinking about things that should marvel us. I'm not marvelled. Instead I think of paths in the landscape, paths made by man's feet. Over lifetimes people have walked over landscapes, carving their journeys into the ground, even forcing trees to bend their branches so that they grow crooked. These are runes carved by walking, their stories quietly span millennia. The old oak stands witness.

This is Modernity, I think. To ever long for quiet. To be captured by the new, to make a commodity of that which is natural. The man who desired everything, and got it, only to find himself missing wanting itself. Not that I think all that is modern is bad, nothing is ever just bad. If it were, we would get rid of it. We are not victims of Modernity, we are spellbound by it. It's a drug. A spiral.

I read what is said about me. Getting messages from friends who understand. They sigh. I sigh. I tell them I don't care, but I can't help but getting angry anyway, so I postpone writing back. Nothing good ever comes from responding in anger, and anyway, every word I write feels sordid, dirty. Why should I have to reply to such nonsense? I remind myself that they are the voices I wrote about in the Taiga, voices that have no meaning unless you grant them meaning. I wish I had that old poetry collection here, so I could remind myself of those words. They still make sense to me, they paint an inner landscape.

I know how this sounds, I know how any reply to my detractors sounds too. Its dramaturgical. It has an almost Aristotelean dramatic structure to it. I have tried before to explain things prosaically, to explain how Modernity has caught us. My views put into words for people that are stuck in the loop. I remember telling the story of the freedom of the serfs in Russia. They had lived their lives in captivity, but were mostly left alone. They saw their masters a few times in a lifetime perhaps, the rest of the time they lived as they always had. Sang their songs, cooked their food. Toiled. It was a hard life at someone else’s mercy. Then they were freed, millions of illiterate people who for thousands of years had stayed in one place were let go, only to be mangled by industrialism, where Modernity was ready with her ideologies. ‘Escape this!’, she said, and they did, only to find themselves in yet another trap. And just a few decades earlier there had been life that made them humans beyond their destitution and serfdom, something that made things bearable. Expelled from the land they used to be bound to, they had instead looked to employment, and their new masters had clocks for them to punch and quotas to meet. Trying to escape that, they were caught in starvation, brutalism, the anonymity of urban life and the most savage wars. And then, they ran from that into atomisation. Someone thought out a new structure for society, perfect in the minds of ideologues. Straight lines, like borders on a map drawn by colonialists, far removed from the fabric which is actual life.

I tried telling their story, but in Modernity there is no fire to sit around and talk. A fire reduces the pedantry of the listener. Humans have listened to stories like that since the dawn of time, until the stories became archetypical and everlasting. I think that maybe we evolved to listen attentively and without hostility around a fire. But in Modernity we refuse to listen. ‘Would you rather we had serfs?’ ‘No.’ ‘Would you rather we had feudalism?’ ‘No.’ ‘You are suspect anyway.’ ‘I guess.’ You are missing the point. It’s the elk that flees that is driven towards the cliff, not the one that isn’t scared and calmly keeps his head with him. I am not sure the analogy holds up. In any case, the serfs ended up running from poverty and the injustice they knew, into a machine that ground them down and supplied them with an ideology that could only ever make things worse. They were played. In the new economy they were outdated, needed elsewhere. They were told they had to fight for freedom. The old structure which kept them up had to go and they ended up in Modernity’s battlefield.

At one time we were all tribes, tied together by blood. The biggest unit we could muster was that which could organically be upheld. Then arose the centralised state, cracking down on tribal allegiances and social structures, replacing them with institutions. It became possible to organise bigger groups of people, nations. Those who couldn’t make the transition were dominated by those who could. Tribal life was sometimes brutal, but they were never powerful enough to eradicate or colonise. To form a nation state, the kings had to change the structure of society, replace cultures, traditions with institutions the state had control over. Sometimes go to war with people who held on to their local loyalties, whose life wasn’t improved as they were forced to give up power. The nation states were necessary and over time some grew into peaceful, welfare states. Then a new power manifested itself. It had learned how to conquer, it had to attack the social fabric and undermine the institutions in place. Even the demography. The state itself was to be put under the thumb and relinquish its powers. Power, it was decided, should move farther away from people and into the hands of international courts of law; away from the troublesome nation states and demographic hegemonies. Smash it. In with the new. Just one more sacrifice and we’ll reach utopia. Give us the power to rule you and we’ll give you… nothing. Panem et circenses. The bank will own your house, your car, your institutions will lack power and only remain to uphold the bureaucracy to manage it all. You will not belong to anything, you are free, your family bonds are only contractual and temporary. You are an atom. Free as long as you do not rattle the cage.

My grandfather fought in WWI. He detested the generals after that and came close to joining the communist party, only to realise they were just as likely to send him to the slaughterhouse. He chose to bear his demons himself, or so I am told. Taking long walks. Maybe drinking too much. These people that stand before me now are fighting for their own disenfranchisement. They want the super state. They want to give up their institutions. They will get into a rage and froth at the very idea that maybe it isn’t the best of ideas to forever change the demographics of a country. They are marching again, throwing their hats into the air. We’ll be back in time for Christmas. This war will end all wars.

I get defensive, and I really shouldn’t. There's a fire in the fireplace and a stream of smoke rises across a starry sky. You never see the shifts in colour on the night sky in the city. I shouldn't be defensive, because that only means I have already failed to explain. Again. A trap.

The very participation in the debate is a trap. To not participate is the only thing that you can do, and hope there are those who see what you do anyway. To win is to do something else that is outside of their reach. To win is to build. To win is to take those who understand and make something that speaks by existing alone. Then I see that is what we do with these arts as well, but as soon as they are done, Modernity wants it. Demands it. And it uses the same fools it always has, those who find their truths in ideology and tell themselves they are the Good ones. Fighting the Good cause.

Is it too late? There’s not even a silver slither by the horizon. I need to calm down, enjoy the luxury of normality offered on the weekends until we can build something strong enough to withstand whatever this is, while he sleeps and dreams his childhood dreams.

No, it is not too late. I still believe in that which is the essence of being human. To write runes with your very life. To refuse to be caught in a loop and instead build on the love for that which is peaceful and connected. We will not be atomised.

I feel like my specialism will be in Product Design as like a profession and Graphic Design as a hobbie as I love Graphics and digital design but I rather keep them as hobbies and Product Design as a career based job as a lot if people are going into the Graphic Design industry and it would be harder to get a professional role in this practice instead.

Common Materials and techniques are the steps above of the specialist area as it is crucial to be involved in the practice of the specialism as it helps understand and develop concept, sketches, product details, samples and much more.

Also I believe Graphic Design is also one of my specialist areas because my last minute ideas end up being the best ones and I like to create pieces that I would actually print and hang in my room or around the house, so instead of buying it for expensive prices I can print, laminate and frame my own work so you could start a small business at home.

How long as Product Design been a specialism for?

There isn’t a specific timeline that tells you how long this practice has been around and is also knows as “Industrial and Interaction Design”.

Business in general is looking good and 2019 will be a great year for us, Rolls-Royce Cullinan is the most anticipated car of 2018 and, quite possibly, the most anticipated Rolls-Royce of all time. Response from our customers and prospects, the media and fans of the brand has been overwhelmingly positive. The order books for Cullinan are also exceptionally strong and already stretch well into 2019. Phantom is the pinnacle of Rolls-Royce and it is doing well. Ghost Wraith, Dawn and their Black Badge variants are all in a very good shape.

In Kuwait, we are nearly sold out for 2019 Cullinan production; this mirrors exactly our expectations for Kuwait.
