Raha and Wuk Lamat are ahead, speaking as their little group walks towards the harbor. Avi’li’s attention lingers on Wuk Lamat for a moment, taking in her axe, her composure, her posture. Confident to be sure, but perhaps not as tested as she presents. Certainly she’s not the only one keen to learn more on this little hunt.
Avi’li shifts attention to Erenville. They walk side by side, Erenville’s stride long and Avi’li’s short but quick.
“So,” Avi’li starts and Erenville’s shoulders tense, “you talked about me?”
“We exchanged tales over drinks,” Erenville says, curt and crisp, “and you happened to come up. That is all.”
Avi’li, undeterred by Erenville’s casual dismissal, turns his body and walks backwards with a grin. “What’d you tell her about me?”
“Nothing of import.”
“A slayer of ferocious beasts and savior of the star?”

“Dashing Associate Sky Pirate? Champion of Ishgard?”
“Humble about his accomplishments?” Erenville, pointedly looking away until now, gives Avi’li a blank stare. “What is the point of these questions?”
“You can’t blame me for being curious.” Avi’li says with a shrug. He looks over his shoulder—“You’re going to trip,” Erenville says but is ignored—at Wuk Lamat, “‘Sides I need to know what new stories I can share if I’m to travel across the seas with her.”
Erenville’s eyebrows lift, “You are already decided?”
“No. The appeal is there, of course, but,” Avi’li purses his lips, “I worry what this will actually entail.”
Getting wrapped up in his thoughts, Avi’li’s pace slows, eventually coming to a stop over the bridge between the Agnora and Scholar’s Harbor. Erenville stops too, with little choice, nearly standing toe to toe with Avi’li.
“Wuk Lamat hasn’t said what being her champion actually means,” Avi’li continues. He watches the light catch Erenville’s nose, his cheek, before meeting his eyes. “What this contest will be.”
“This is the first time this contest is being held. No one knows what to expect.” One corner of Erenville’s lips lifts into a smirk. “Surely whatever comes will be a worthy challenge for the Champion of Demon Dog Vomit.”
“Pfft!” Avi’li puts his hands on his chest to shove him away, a light hearted attempt that brings them closer, only inches apart now. Avi’li has to crane his neck up to look at him. “What if the contest is fighting myself out of another demon dog?”
The edge of Erenville’s mouth smooths to a slow-blooming smile. “Then Wuk Lamat has found the best champion for her.”
Something about that makes Avi’li feel hot in his face. Is it the way Erenville looks at him now? The new tone in his voice? Both soft, fond.
“Flatterer,” Avi’li says beneath his breath, what little there is in his lungs.
They both laugh, the fleeting, bubbly kind of laugh that fades to nothing in the space between them. Avi’li’s palms burn against Erenville’s chest. This close, he can see the shades of topaz and green in Erenville’s darkening eyes. Avi’li drops his gaze, following a line of light down the slope of Erenville’s nose to his parting lips.
Their lips move, “We…” “—should…”
“OI!”
They jump, heads whipping around to the ramp into the Harbor. Wuk Lamat stands at the top of the ramp, hands cupped around either side of her mouth, yelling loud enough for the island to hear.
“Are you dawdlers coming or not?!”
A slow, long suffering sigh pours out of Erenville.
“We are coming, be patient!” Erenville calls, taking a step back. A chill air from the harbor breezes into the space left between them. “Shall we?”
Erenville doesn’t wait for a response and he walks towards the ramp with a quick, almost eager step.
Avi’li doesn’t follow immediately. His head swims in that lingering moment with topaz and green and salt and pine and mint. He closes his eyes, shakes himself free of whatever that was, and follows after.

The Alien Archaics
A group of prehistoric humans, anthros, witches, mythicals, and Stellinias who represented the Tzolk’in Mayan zodiac and the Aztec zodiac. To this day, the behaviors and legends of the Alien Archaics have been carefully documented long after they faded away from existence.
Caimadile
A smart and assertive cipactli who represented Imix/Cipactli. Caimadile had the ability to create and wield weapons with primordial power. He was once thought to be responsible for causing great floods.
Windsnatcher
An attentive and communicative harpy who represented Ik/Eecatl. Windsnatcher had the power to use air-based magic. She was the real culprit behind the great floods that led to the Caimadile being wrongly blamed for it.
Vesperlupus
A faithful and calm wolf-like mythical who represented Akbal/Calli. Vesperlupus had the ability to create and wield weapons with power over death force. Many people feared him as they believed he was the king of the underworld.
Dea
An entertaining and dynamic anthropomorphic Ardeosaurus who represented Kan/Cuetzpalin. Dea was able to harness the power of the Seeds of Growth in order to gain the ability of harvest manipulation. She is said to have acted as a grandmother figure to her loved ones.
Chiic
An empathic and outspoken human who represented Chicchan/Coatl. Chiic was able to manipulate snakes using enchanted snakeskin. He was the leader of a cult that honored him by bringing feathers.
Mortis
A sensible and polite witch who represented Cimi/Miquiztli. Mortis had the power to use necromancy. He was thought to have worked alongside the Vesperwolf, so he was feared by everyone just as much.

An eccentric and wandering human who represented Manik/Mazatl. Scori was able to manipulate fire using enchanted tinder fungus. She once belonged to a tribe that was disturbingly obsessed with sacrifices in order to keep their access to fire.

A playful and bright anthropomorphic Nuralagus who represented Lamat/Tochtli. Alaru was able to harness the power of the Star of Maturity in order to gain the ability to fuse cosmic energy and physical combat. During her lifetime, she has acted as a midwife.
Neros
A careful and insightful griffin-like Stelliania who represented Muluc/Atl. Neros had the power to control fire and water by projecting an aura. She was never meant to be made, but she made up for it by using her powers to find some of Earth's hidden resources.
Kyo
A trusty and naive anthropomorphic Amphicyon who represented Oc/Itzcuintli. Kyo was able to harness the power of the Bone of Devotion in order to gain the ability of eclipse manipulation. He was somehow able to tame and work with a wild scorpion-like Bondbeast.
Archi
A funny and talkative anthropomorphic Archicebus who represented Chuen/Ozomahtli. Archi was able to harness the power of the Fruit of Creativity in order to gain the ability to combine physical combat with the creative arts. Ever since he found the fruit, Archi became very much admired.
Mead
A cooperative and meticulous witch who represented Eb/Malinalli. Mead had the ability to create and wield weapons with chlorokinetic power. She would often go on adventures with her best friend, Oncamyst, and challenge people to ball games.
Glade
An overbearing and persistent witch who represented Ben/Acatl. Glade had the power to use wetland magic. She was the proud mother of Mead and often played ball games with her daughter and her friend Oncamyst.
Oncamyst
An impulsive and sophisticated cat-like mythical who represented Ix/Ocelotl. Oncamyst had the power to use shamanic magic. As much as he loved to go on adventures with his friend, Mead, Oncamyst couldn't help but worry for her safety.
Lumil
A free-thinking and nitpicky human who represented Men/Quauhtli. Lumil was able to use a magic barrette in order to gain the abilities of eagles. Not many knew about this, but Lumil would often dream of putting an end to humanity with her imaginary pet birds.
Bravr
A concerned and competent human who represented Cib/Cozcacuauhtli. Bravr was able to use a magic scarf in order to gain the abilities of vultures. He found the scarf while chasing after an owl that stole his spear.
Clay
A philosophical and affable witch who represented Caban/Ollin. Clay had the ability to create and wield weapons with anarchic power. He would often wreak havoc by destroying the land around him.
Suikou (swee-koh)
A logical and selfless Stellinia who represented Etznab/Tecpatl. Suikou had the power to utilize practices that were geokinetic in nature. He had a close relationship with a Stellinia named Lluviano, who, like him, also got stranded on Earth.
Lluviano (yoo-vyah-noh)
A soothing and mystical Stellinia who represented Cauac/Quiauitl. Lluviano had the power to utilize practices that were electrokinetic in nature. He would sometimes work with Grypfion to help her find resources.
Flùrnan
A loving and idealistic Stellinia who represented Ahau/Xochitl. Flùrnan had the power to control flowers by projecting an aura. Although she worked for the Caelestas, Flùrnan stayed on Earth so she could befriend humans and help them find food.

MESOAMERICAN THEMES IN SOUTHWEST ROCK ART 3
“The Venus Symbol in Southwest Rock Art”
The Maya symbol for Venus (Lamat)
In 1996, the great John B. Carlson wrote a paper titled "Transformations of the Mesoamerican Turtle Carapace War Shield, A Study in Ethnoastronomy", that looked at war shields from Mesoamerica and the American Southwest. A common subject for the decoration of these symbols of conflict was the crucifix representing the planet Venus.
From Late Formative times in Mesoamerica, the planet Venus was viewed as a powerful male god of warfare and sacrifice. Carlson realized that Mesoamericans fought wars on the cycles of the planet. This Venus-regulated warfare and sacrifice theme comes from various inscriptions and iconography, from Spanish chronicles and ethnohistorical sources, and from Pre-Columbian codices. Carlson noted a frequent portrayal of a turtle carapace used by a god or important person as a shield.
Here is a turtle carapace decorated with the Maya Lamat Venus glyph. The war shield as the celestial symbol of Venus.
The planet Venus was viewed as a powerful male god of warfare and sacrifice whose rays were feared as deadly spears, particularly when the planet appeared in the east before sunrise as Morning Star or in the west after sunset as Evening Star.
Nahua and Uto-Aztecan-speaking peoples may well have been the principal cultural agents who carried this cult of warfare and sacrifice north into the American Southwest and perhaps also into the Plains and Southeast.
From 900 CE in West Mexico, to 1200 CE in Northwest Mexico in the Casas Grandes region, and by 1300 CE in the American Southwest, the Venus symbolism spread. Among these changes in the American Southwest is the dramatic florescence of Morning Star and warfare-related symbolism in Pueblo rock art and kiva murals.

In the art and iconography of Mesoamerica, the depiction of plumed serpents in association with stars is widely interpreted as representing portrayals of Quetzalcoatl in his guise as the Morning Star, both being closely related to the dawn and the eastern directional point.
The Casas Grandes Cultural complex conveyed Mesoamerican related themes from the site of Paquime in Chihuahua including the transmission of a Mesoamerican-derived Morning Star warfare complex to the American Southwest. Ball courts, horned serpent imagery, and the cross-shaped architectural features at the Mound of the Cross all suggest possible manifestations of and links to the Quetzalcoatl-Venus complex.

The symbol of the outlined cross is commonly identified as a representation of Venus. In Mesoamerica it symbolized Quetzalcoatl in his aspect of the morning star and indeed the Mayan glyph for the planet Venus includes an outlined cross.
The rising of the Morning Star of Venus is symbolic of the rising of the creator from death to rebirth. The very same relationship exists between the Morning Venus and multi- named Native American creator gods. Mesoamerica researchers have been successful in identifying several Venus Star symbols which were used by the Maya, Toltec, and Aztec cultures to identify the Creator
One of the symbols used by these cultures to identify the rebirth of the creator Quetzalcoatl is an outlined cross. the Aztec creation god after being on earth, became a sky god who is seen in the Mexican iconographic system in both anthropomorphic and serpent form, and he is also symbolized by the Morning Star, often in the form of an outlined cross”
This same interpretation of a similar Venus star is traceable back to Mesoamerica and the death and rebirth of Quetzalcoatl, the Sky God of Creation.
In some of the legends of the ancestors of the Aztec, Quetzalcoatl is represented by the Morning Star, while his twin brother Xolotl is represented by the Evening Star. Together they symbolize the passage of Venus into the underworld in the evening, and then its emergence again into the Eastern sky in the morning.
Below is a clear illustration of Quetzalcoatl's influence in the SW in the photo below, a serpent becoming Venus; with a second Venus star (death-rebirth/spiritual); a pregnant (earthly/physical) lizard; and an anthropomorph wearing New Fire Ceremony headgear.

Taube, Schaafsma and Taube makes the convincing argument that the association of Quetzalcoatl as Morning Star in Postclassic Mesoamerica is associated with the east, the rising sun, as well as with rain-bringing winds of the gulf linking Venus to rain and agricultural fertility.
In addition researchers present evidence that warfare and the taking of captives destined for sacrifice among the Maya was coordinated with the movements of Venus (Carlson, Lounsbury, Milbrath, Schele and Freidel. The Mesoamerican Venus was connected to a war/fertility complex that goes back to Teotihuacan (Carlson). In Mexico Tlaloc-Venus warfare was the means by which blood offerings were transformed into water through the capture of prisoners for ritual sacrifice. Carlson asks the question of whether the association between Venus, rain, maize, and fertility is rooted in the ancient mythic/cultural tradition of the transformation of blood into water via Venus-linked war and sacrifice, or whether where is an astronomical/calendrical basis for these beliefs – or both? In general, in Mesoamerica and in the cosmologies of West Mexico and the American Southwest, stars are feared, regarded as dangerous, and their association with conflict is pervasive. Morning Star is often perceived as the Sun‘s warrior, defeating darkness as it rises, and both the Sun and Morning Star are implicated in sacrificial rites that, in turn, serve to maintain cosmic balance.

World building fact swap: in Lethe they celebrate the end of harvest by cutting the cores out of apples and turning them into candles/oil lamps as a way to guide the spirits in the foggy days of autumn (since fog is a believed to allow the dead to leave the magic star cloud where the dead live into the living world)
Ooh, that sounds cool. In traditional Tosi culture, around the beginning of autumn, sacrifices are brought from outlying farms and small hamlets into the temples of Lamat in the bigger towns and cities. People collect blood from animals (wild and domestic) and bring it to offer to Lamat (a war goddess). They also consume a lot of meat in her honor, including blood soups. This is a time that women try to get pregnant, so they can have the baby in early summer of the next year, which is supposed to be the luckiest time for childbearing.

The Geometry of Three [7/7/16]
Since 3 and 7 have a sum of 10 [Unity], they are complementary to one another.
A pyramid is defined as a polyhedron created by connecting a polygonal base with a point, known as the apex. This quality of evolving upward toward a single point of unity reflects the strong association of the Pyramid with the Solar number 10. The same is true of its 2D counterpart, the upward-pointing triangle. This shape traditionally represents the element of Fire, which is a property of the numbers 3 and 7. The unifying quality of 3 is reflected in words like Sun and Unity [both 21], which relate closely to 10 words such as Solar [19+0] and Nucleus [37].
Although a pyramid can be based on any kind of polygon, there are two major types which are most commonly encountered. These are the Tetrahedron [a Platonic solid with a triangular base] and the square-based pyramid seen in the monuments at Giza. This dual emphasis on 3 and 4 as alternate types of foundations is reflected in the first two letters of the word Pyramid [P = 4, Y = 3], which correspond to the values of the Mayan calendar signs of Kan [Seed - Foundation] and B'en [Pillars - Support]. The third aspect is Lamat [Star - Apex], which is connected to B'en through a relationship of complementarity, expressed by the sum of 20 which results when their numerical values are are paired in a crosswise manner. Three multiplied by four is twelve, which reduces back to three. The sum of three and four is seven.
I used a simple method for reducing each polyhedron to a single number which conveys its essence. First, each face is converted to a number corresponding to its number of sides [e.g., each triangle becomes a 3]. All of these numbers are then added together and reduced to a single digit. By following this procedure, the tetrahedron comes out to 12 or 3, while the square-based pyramid is 16 or 7 [the same value as the word Giza].
In this way, the relationship between 3 and 7 is modeled by the two primary manifestations of the pyramid form. But it is also contained within the form of the square-based pyramid alone. This pattern is expressed through a process of building up by threes. The 3-6-9 triad seen in the structure of the triangular prism results from starting at zero and repeatedly adding 3. Three iterations of this process yield a final value of 9. Zero and nine, respectively, symbolize the primordial and mature aspects of the Divine Feminine. However, there is another way to do this which produces differing yet parallel results. Starting the process at one yields a pattern of 1-4-7-10, with 1 and 10 representing the primordial and mature aspects of the Divine Masculine. The square-based pyramid follows this pattern, beginning with a single square from which arise 4 triangular sides, creating a form with a combined value of 7 which naturally points toward a single apex, representing 10.
When I was organizing this chart, I decided to include a section on the relationship between frequency, wavelength and energy in various types of electromagnetic radiation. This is mainly because it expresses a very similar numerical pattern to that of the pyramid, with the frequency of every type of radiation coming out to some form of 3, while the corresponding wavelength reduces to 1. The energy of each of these kinds of radiation is expressed through a variation of the sequence 124, which adds up to 7. The four triangular faces of the tetrahedron are quantified as the number 12, to which the square pyramid adds a square base with a value of 4. Although I only had room to include three entries, this pattern holds true across a much longer list incorporating all forms of electromagnetic radiation. The pyramid form does appear to have some unique properties which affect the flow of electromagnetic energy in certain contexts, as indicated by a 2014 [=7] experiment involving pyramid-shaped nanoscale antennas.
While the 1-4-7 triad is characteristic of the pyramid, the 3-6-9 triad is more apparent in the triangular prism. The primary qualitative difference between the Pyramid and the Prism is one of Fire vs. Water, which results from the pairing of the shared element of 3 with either 7 or 6. The Water aspect of the Prism is reflected in its similarity to the biological eye. Whereas the Pyramid channels diverse elements toward a homogeneous state, the Prism does the opposite, beginning with a homogeneous input and eliciting diversity.
