Limited life thing I forgot to post about on Friday
So I think it was in session 2- I mean it must’ve been because of bread bridge and such. Anyway, did anyone else notice the parallel between when they were talking to pearl building the bridge towards the most neighbors and she was breaking blocks and the bad boys INCLUDING GRIAN were breaking blocks below her
Sound familiar?
Yes of course it does because the fandom went feral over mumbo and grian at the ghast farm in last life because even though they were laughing the dramatic angsty potential was insane
Obviously it wasn’t scripted or anything and this is kind of a stretch but like
Roundabout crumbs yay

hey remember in Last Life when Joel wagered a life against Jimmy in Tango's You Bet Your Life game and he then talked to Scar about potentially staging an "accident" for Jimmy to ensure that Joel won the bet and could supply Magical Mountain with lots of lives to sell? because I do!
now, one of the rules of You Bet Your Life was that you couldn't kill the person you bet on, so even though Joel became the Boogeyman in the very next session, he couldn't have executed his dastardly plan.
Scar, however, did not bet on Jimmy.
and Scar was also the Boogeyman in session two.
if he'd killed Jimmy instead of Mumbo, things would've gone very differently. to start, Lizzie hadn't placed a bet yet, meaning there would only be three lives in the pot of You Bet Your Life... which would have to be split between Joel (who would still be the Boogeyman) and Bdubs, who also bet against Jimmy. three doesn't divide evenly by two, so that would be interesting. still, Joel would've gain between one and two lives if Scar had killed Jimmy instead of Mumbo, so... why didn't he?
"heat of the moment," you say. "he panicked and went for the easiest target."
well, that's certainly one explanation, but that assumes that Scar would even consider killing Jimmy. which he wouldn't. why?
because Scar didn't think he was allowed kill a yellow name.

I hope it's still okay to talk about traffic!Mumbo
A lot of the times,it's either Grian or Scar or Martyn that's popular within the life series fandom, but Mumbo's my favourite character so I'm glad that you like him a lot as well!
I just love that Last Life kind of started so good for him, with the Southlands, the aha jokes, the base and farms, but then he and Grian had that moment on the bridge and would only be red with Grian, who wanted him to join him SO BADLY,if he killed Mumbo fair and square.
Then Mumbo turned red and went INSANE with the end crystals. He was forced out of the Southlands (I think),he was trying to attack so many people, and didn't hesitate to push Impulse off of the SAME bridge that Grian tried to kill him on.He still joined up with fellow reds but he kept moving through different people, until he met up with Jimmy,a fellow Southlander, and died in his home,by the hands of one of his closest allies.
He's just kind of a tragic character that's different to the usual angst of the life series, somebody who wanted friends but lost them all and went insane and bloodthirsty because of it.
This might not make sense,or just feel like a basic explanation of Mumbo's Last life journey, but still,it was nice to talk about him and I love your art of Mumbo!
Yes yes yes YES!
I absolutely love traffic!Mumbo because the more you rewatch his povs, the more tragic he seems to become.
Like you said, it started out great! He got a group of friends, he got 4 lives, jokes - everything was perfect! But then the Bastion happened, and he lost his first life. Okay, that's scary! He hadn't died on hardcore before, so it's weird and was definitely a lot more terrifying than if he died on Hermitcraft.
He calls for help in chat, asking if someone, anyone, can come help him get home and protect him. He buries himself underground, waiting for Martyn and Jimmy to come back for him. No one comes, though, leaving him to wait. He's completely alone for the night, terrified to go out in case a mob hurts him and kills him again.
Mumbo's rightfully upset at them, commenting how the "aha" is traumatic to him now and how he can't do it due to not having a spyglass anymore. Meeting up with Grian, Mumbo makes a jab at himself about burning and dying, clearly still upset.
Then he dies again at the hands of, again, lava, but this time it was because Scar poured it on him. His friend from another world, killing him just like that, not really caring. He respawns, but he stays burning. Mumbo tries to jump into the water, trying to distinguish the weirdly non damage taking flames, but they don't disappear no matter what he does. The others don't comment on it, as if they can't see it. He's still burning. It's still warm.
and THEN THE GHAST BRIDGE?? INCIDENT HAPPENS??? Mumbo only heard talks about red names and how they can't team with non reds, only seeing Joel act that way. He's never experienced this. So it's incredibly distressing when he watches his best friend die in front of him, going down to red. He leaves a sign at the bottom, saving Grian's stuff and pleading for him not to hurt him, because hey! I saved your stuff! I'm your pal!
The whole conversation makes me sick, because Grian clearly isn't fully trying to kill Mumbo off. He wants to be friends with him, of course, but he can't kill him. Grian resorts to making pathetic attempts to drop him, but of course it doesn't work. He backs off the moment Mumbo tells him that he will join him if he kills him fair and square. Mumbo wants to join him, he wants to stay friends, but only if Grian does it fairly. Grian doesn't. He can't.
I'm skipping through everything to when Mumbo turns red because MUMBO ON HIS RED LIFE IS CONSTANTLY ON MY MIND BECAUSE OH MY GOD. This man is not used to this amount of bloodthirst. He's a killer, of course he is. His middle name is Killsalot god damn it! But he's not used to it being this much. He immediately goes insane, not hesitating to hurt, to explode, to push the limits. Seeing how Ren and BigB were scared of him if he even went NEAR them with something explosive, it filled him with power. "I like having this power!" he says, absolutely ecstatic of how he can do what he wants.
All this power comes with a cost, of course. Mumbo coming back to the place he called home, meeting face to face with Grian and Impulse. He shouldn't be here. They tell him that in the face. Mumbo tries to protest, to talk about about how he somewhat already was exiled already, but his voice gets quiet as the realisations hit him. He cant come home. Grian exiles him right in front of him, telling him that he should leave. He does, but not without doing what red names were meant to do. Destroy. Scare.
Back on the ghast bridge, Impulse and Grian are there. Mumbo doesn't hesitate to push Impulse off, laughing. Grian's upset, yelling at him while Mumbk tries to explain himself. Mumbk tries to do Grian's old tricks of breaking the floor beneath him, but he can't. Grian can now, though, not afraid to protect himself as he starts scaring Mumbo. All Mumbo fan do in turn is to apologise repeatedly, saying "sorry" over and over as if he didn't mean to do ehat he did, running away.
He keeps burning the flame. He keeps making the flame larger and larger and larger until its too much, until he burns himself down to ashes. He flies too close to the sun as he watches Jimmy die in front of him, realisations crashing over him after hitting his best friend of what he's done now, running away before turning back, hoping that he didn't follow. Grian did, though. He always does.
It ends with Mumbo getting stabbed in the chest as he feels himself dying. Not dying in the way that is on Hermitcraft, the way that it is back home. No. He's dying.
Mumbo has a constant theme with burning in LastLife. His first deaths relating to burning in lava, coming back permanently burning due to a glitch after his second one, his third happening right after exploding an end crystal right in front of him, his love for end crystals in the first place...
I like to associate him with a burning candle flame that just got too big, slowly burning himself down until nothing but a puddle of what once was remained.

1, 2, 8, 12, 17, 18, 19, 22, 23, and 25 for traffic life?
1. Guys people be getting Tango wrong. What you people be doing? Like, he's a goofy, protective guy and you're out here being like, "oOoH hEs OvErLy EmOtIoNaL!!!" NO HES NOT
2. Ah gosh I feel awkward because the traffic series feels like a weird mix of role-playing and irl. So, guys, I have two favorites. Smajor and Solidarity. Scott is clearly top, because bro just *is*. You know? He's flirty and kinda sly and just seems like it. Jimmy Solidarity, who's character is taller and probably a little more muscular than Scott, seems like the perfect bottom. He's just, well... a pushover. Except when it comes to burning banners.
8. GRIAN AND JIMMY ARE NOT SIBLINGS!!! While, yeah, I feel like it's an interesting dynamic to have, and useful for fanfic, NEWS FLASH! NO!
12. I don't really think there's an "unpopular character" in this series. I've seen so much about all of them. I don't know... Impulse? He's got a super nice voice, and he's super goofy, and it's wonderful. And he has a podcast with Skizz, so that's a plus.
17. Hey guysssssss even though Grian became secret soulmates with BigB, there's not much ship art or fic for ittt
18. People be sleepin'. People be takin' a lil snooze on some things. For instance, the TNT cannons that, if I remember correctly, Team BEST made(???) You people could *actually* do so much with that. And GUYS, Grian and Mumbo's characters probably had trauma from the ghast farm incident. You could do *so fricking much with that*.
19. Uhhhh either I don't know the answer to this one or my brain is physically blocking the thought when I try to think of an answer here.
22. Well, people don't really ignore it, but I love all the intense parts like the ghast farm or the finale of 3rd life. Oh! I also love Scar's reputation points.
23. Majorwood. I hated it and I still do yet I still read fanfics.
25. GUYS PEOPLE CAN SHIP WHOEVER THE FUCK THEY WANT TO AS LONG AS ITS NOT WEIRD OR BREAKS CC'S BOUNDARIES‼️‼️ AND THERES NOTHING WRONG WITH SKITTIES (iykyk) AND PEOPLE CAN DRAW SKITTIES‼️‼️ SCAR'S CHARACTER LITERALLY HAD HIS SHIRT OFF‼️‼️
So yeah here's this I apologize for my constant lack of comprehension
I once had a cashier laugh at me in the middle of a pizza place.

Another part from Session 7 I loved was the ghast farm incident: just... the back-and-forth on the cobble stone, breaking the slabs trying to make each other fall.
Except this time, it's the opposite way around. Grian is yellow, a southerner (Impulse) has just been punched off this bridge, and Mumbo is the red.
.
.
They could've been friends again :)

Rustic House Club chapter 2
Jrum had a crayon in one hand as he laid on the ground, drawing on a blank map. “Okay, then which way?”
Jrum’s friend had been helping him make a fun treasure map to play with today. It had been something they had suggested before and now it seemed like the perfect time.
“Well, from the sign platform, you’ll go down to the big doors on the mansion in front of you.”
The robot nodded as he drew a line going to a sketch which he made look like his dad’s mansion. “Then what?”
“That’s the end! You’ll find something really cool there! Even better than a rustic house!”
“What could be so good that you think it’s better than a rustic house?” Jrum asked his friends with a giggle.
“It’s a surprise!”
“Well, okay then! I’m gonna go tell my dads what I’m doing and then I’ll start!”
Jrums friend agreed and Jrum headed back to the mansion, glad to find his dad there and not out at the shopping district or somewhere else. “Daaaad!”
“Hi Jrum. Are you done playing already?”
Jrum shook his head. “No, my friend and I made a treasure map and I’m gonna go looking for the treasure at the end!”
“Is that so?” Grian asked. “Can I see your treasure map?” Jrum handed him the paper and he looked over it. It wasn’t really that legible to him, but he saw the start and end points being the magic village and the mansion, so it seemed fine. He handed the map back and patted Jrum on the head. “Alright. Remember to stay safe and call me or your daddy if you need help, okay?”
Jrum nodded before running off again, returning to the village and then following the path. The hardest part of the journey was through the nether. His dads haven’t figured out how to make special elytra that would work for him and his brother since their bodies were much heavier than what the wings could deal with at their size. He was careful as he built up to the path on the map. After that, it was just a really long walk with a surprising amount of bees. This was the nether, why were there so many bees in this tunnel?
Finally, Jrum reached the end of the tunnel. He checked his battery level which was rather low, so he ate one of his snacks - some charged redstone dust - before continuing. It took a bit of scaffolding, but eventually Jrum got down to a platform hanging over the lava lake of the cavern. It was hung up by chains that looked sturdy, but it still made Jrumbot a little wary.
But it wasn’t like he needed to stay there too long, as right in front of it, just a chunk or two away, was a mansion. It looked just like his dad’s, except it was red instead of blue. Also it was built completely upside down.
Jrum nervously looked around, making sure there were no ghasts around, before he started to bridge out towards the building. The minute he heard even the distant cry of a ghast, he booked it back to the little hanging platform and make sure everything was safe again before continuing.
After many minutes and one close call with a ghast later, Jrum reached the door of the mansion. He struggled a little pushing it open, but eventually managed. Jrum was expecting some kind of prize or treasure at the end. Maybe a stack of diamond blocks piled up. Or maybe even some netherite. It could have been something fun to explore. Or anything really. Instead the place looked mostly empty and somewhat abandoned. There were the remains of an incomplete farm in one area of the building, but otherwise, there wasn’t much.
Jrum closed the door behind him and made a safe area for himself before letting himself fall to the ground. He laid on his back, staring up at the roof - floor? - for around a minute before he started crying in frustration. He had come all this way and for nothing! He thought maybe for a second, it might have been the building itself that was the prize, but that would just rub in how bad of a builder he was. But his friend had said to go inside the building, so it should have been some other prize.
Once Jrum had exhausted himself enough, he sat back up and started to send a message to his dad. He was so frustrated, he didn’t notice two important things. The first was the person coming up behind him. The second was his battery which was giving him a warning with it in the low single digits. But Jrum was too focused on getting home.
<Jrumbot> Dad. I finished my treasure hunt, but there wasn’t anything at the end. I’m really far away and tired. Can you please come g
Jrum wasn’t able to finish writing the message out before he heard a noise close behind him. He whirled around to see someone. It was his dad! “Dad! I wanna go home! There wasn’t anything here!”
Then the person moved forward and Jrum froze. At a glance it looked like his dad, but looking again, it wasn’t. His eyes weren’t the right color and he seemed to have metallic plating on his face. Along with that he didn’t seem to move quite right, all his movements having a jittered and halting form of movement.
“Y-You’re not dad…” Jrum pushed himself back a little in fear and then also noticed his battery level. 1%. Jrum didn’t have time to make a new message, so he quickly added what he could before sending it with the last bit of energy he had. And then, he powered off, collapsing to the ground.
Grian had completely lost track of time while working in Aqua Town. He had just finished up renovating his new buildings when his comm buzzed. It pulled him out from hyper-focusing on building and caused him to look around. He looked out the window to see it was well past midnight.
He was so sure the message was likely Mumbo asking him where he was and that the kids were worried, so Grian packed up his stuff and flew back home. Once he arrived at the mansion, he put all his shulkers down before going upstairs. The avian looked in the bedrooms to find them all empty. That was fine. Mumbo had likely put them to sleep at his base.
Grian grabbed something quick to eat before flying to the ancient monument, easily finding Mumbo who was just in his storage area. Grian carefully snuck up on the redstoner, trying to be as quiet as possible, though he also couldn’t help humming as he approached.
Mumbo finally noticed the humming and froze with what he was doing to pay more attention. “Why do I hear boss music?” His question was quickly answered by Grian tackling him from behind and pinning him to the ground. “Grian!”
“Sorry! You just looked so lost in thought and I couldn’t help it!” The avian laughed before helping Mumbo back to his feet. “Thanks for getting the boys to sleep. I completely lost track of time. I hope Jrum wasn’t too bad tonight.”
The smile on Mumbo’s face turned to a look of confusion. “What do you mean?”
“Huh?”
“I thought Jrum was with you. I only put Grum to bed.”
“But Jrum wasn’t at the mansion. M-Maybe he snuck into bed here?”
Mumbo didn’t answer. He just ran with Grian to the bots’ bedroom. There they found only one of the beds occupied. Grian’s wings puffed up immediately when they saw the sight, which nearly knocked over Mumbo, but he wasn’t complaining about that.
“Mumbo, you look around here and I’ll check the mansion again. If you find anything, message me. If not we check Scar’s village and Jrum’s houses, got that?”
The redstoner nodded and then Grian was in the air, flapping his wings as fast as he could to get back to the mansion. He scoured the place from top to bottom. The boys’ bedroom? Empty. His room? No one there. The basement bed? Nothing but cows. The nest? Barely there since it had mostly been disassembled.
Grian took a second look around just in case before pulling out his comm to tell Mumbo which place he was headed to next. But before he could, he noticed a message from Jrum. Grian breathed a sigh of relief. If only he had checked sooner. Jrum was likely saying where he was. Probably one of his houses or even with another hermit.
But then Grian’s brow furrowed with confusion that quickly turned to worry. He didn’t just have a message from Jrum. He also had a status message. Shortly after the incident with Grum and Iskall, Mumbo had added one last thing to the bots. It would send messages on the boys if something happened that was a cause for concern.
Grian opened up the message for Jrum first. Maybe that would explain it. Maybe what happened was he lost track of time too and shut himself down to conserve power. That would be the best case scenario. As Grian started to read the message, he was sure that’s what was going on. But his heart dropped when he got to the end.
<Jrumbot> Dad. I finished my treasure hunt, but there wasn’t anything at the end. I’m really far away and tired. Can you please come gHELP! There’s someone scary and I’m out of power!
Grian then looked at the other message. If Jrum had powered down. It would have his coordinates. He read it, and then his heart managed to drop even more.
[Bot Status] Jrum lost power at X Y Z in the nether dimension.
The nether. The Nether! Why was Jrum in the nether?! His hands trembled as he tried to message Mumbo, but instead he just selected the world chat. That was probably okay. He might wake a few people, but this was an emergency that could need help.
<Grian> Mumbo, have you looked at your status messages?
<MumboJumbo> No let me do that
<MumboJumbo> The nether?!
<Renthedog> What about the nether?
<Xisuma> Do you mean status as in the messages you get for the bots?
<Grian> YES
<Iskall85> Oh no. What about the nether?
<MumboJumbo> It says that Jrum completely lost power while in the nether
<Xisuma> What were the coordinates?
<Grian> He also sent a message before he powered off that’s really concerning
<MumboJumbo> X Y Z
<StressMonster> What was the message?
<Grian> It was the start of one he almost sent before which was a normal one
<Xisuma> Let me check where that is
<Iskall85> What was the message
<StressMonster> Grian?
<MumboJumbo> Give him a second, he’s probably trying to copy it down.
<Grian> Dad. I finished my treasure hunt, but there wasn’t anything at the end. I’m really far away and tired. Can you please come gHELP! There’s someone scary and I’m out of power!
<Renthedog> Oh that is not good
<MumboJumbo> Is that the only message?
<Grian> Yeah.
<Xisuma> Those coordinates are within the upside down.
<Grian> How’d he manage to get all the way out there?!
<Xisuma> Because this is an emergency, I can teleport the two of you there.
<MumboJumbo> Please!
<Grian> PLEASE
Grian put his comm away and watched as the purple energy from Xisuma’s admit powers surrounded him for a moment. The next moment, he, Mumbo and X were standing in the interior of the red mansion.
Immediately Grian was looking around, Mumbo doing the same. They didn’t get far though until X stopped them. “He would have been right in front of us when we teleported in. In fact…” Xisuma pointed, and while there wasn’t Jrum’s powered down body or a scattering of items that would signify someone dying, there were a few stray items left on the ground.
Mumbo was closer and picked them up. “Some of the charged dust I gave him for snacks. He didn’t even have enough time to eat that to get some more power. There’s also this map drawn in crayon.”
“Jrum showed it to me this morning. He said he was going on a treasure hunt or adventure or something. It started in the village and ended at the mansion. But I didn’t think it meant this mansion. How did he even know about this place?!”
“I don’t know. Did you ever tell him about it?” Mumbo asked.
“No. It never came up! And I don’t think any of the other hermits brought it up!” Grian then remembered that morning. “Unless…”
“Unless what?”
“Jrum said he made the map with his ‘friend’ in the village. I thought it might have been imaginary, or maybe a Jellie… but now…” Grian looked over to X, who immediately pulled his admin panels out.
“I should have realized something was up. There had been some errors popping up here and there. They seemed consistent, but for the life of me I could not figure out the source. I couldn’t find anything dangerous or threatening connected to them, so I didn't worry too much. I thought it might have just been a bug. But…” Xisuma moved his hands and Grian watched as the panels shifted. “A similar message, but this time, instead of the usual area it showed up in, it instead appeared in the world joining messages.”
Grian paled. “So whoever or whatever this is was communicating with my son for weeks and now has shown up and kidnapped him?!” Mumbo pulled Grian closer as the avian started hyperventilating. “W-We… it could be anyone. B-But who? W-Why Jrum? I- Was i-it the Watchers? N-No I would know. But wh-” Grian cut himself off as someone came to mind. “No. No no no no nonononono! Not him, not him!”
“C-Calm down Grian. I’m sure it wasn’t. X, please tell me you can try and find an origin for whatever this was?”
X nodded and messed with his panels while Mumbo tried to help keep Grian from getting completely hysterical. “Here we go. Whatever it was seems to be some sort of player entity, but also not at the same time.”
“Wh-what do you mean?”
“I mean, it’s similar to the code for Grum and Jrum or Biffa. Someone who wasn’t so much born as they were created.”
“Alright. Is that all?” Mumbo asked, earning a shake of the head from Xisuma.
“No, there’s some data here that’s very interesting. They have five worlds listed as ones they’ve been to before. Two of them being ones Grian had been in. Technically there’s six if you include this world since they just entered, but-”
“Wh-what worlds?” Grian managed to ask.
“Not the one you were in when you went to highschool.” Xisuma started with his answer, making Grian give a small sigh of relief and calm slightly. “That being said, The first two worlds are Grian’s solo world as well as the Evolution world. There’s also one connected to Evo called… The Down Side Up?”
Grian’s eyes widened. He had talked about his solo world plenty of times. He had talked about Evo a lot as well. But the last one he had only heard about. Heard about from the one person who had been there. Someone who had been in Grian’s solo world and Evo. And that someone… had… also been in… the highschool.
The builder only half recognized Mumbo talking, but it did bring him back into paying attention to what was going on. “And what are the other two?”
Xisuma hesitated, which made Grian worry. And by the way Mumbo shifted, he was worried too. “The two other worlds… are the fourth and fifth worlds of Helscraft.”
“-W about two rustic houses?”
“No.”
“Okay, you’re really driving a hard bargain. I can build you three rustic houses.”
Jrumbot half registered the people talking nearby. He was really out of it. Even though he was a robot, he still felt sore from walking all the way to that weird mansion.
“I don’t want any of your bloody fucking rustic houses!”
“Well then what do you want?”
“What I want, is for you to go back to season 4 and find Grifter to bring him back here!”
“Hmmm… Sorry Sense, I can’t do that. True might get upset and Xannes would get really mad.”
“You think I give a fuck? You and EX are the only ones who can get in and out of here. So What I want is-”
Jrum had sat up and in his bleary eyed like state, he saw his daddy and ran over to them with a hug. “Daddy, I’m sorry for going too far out. I didn’t know it was gonna be that far away.”
But Jrum didn’t get a hug back, instead his daddy stiffened up and then spoke in a dark tone. “If you don’t pull this thing off me right now, I will tear it limb from limb and harvest its redstone for my experiments.”
Jrum was pulled away by someone behind him, and this time the robot got a better look at the person he hugged. It looked like his dad, except his suit was messy with burn holes and redstone dust everywhere. His tie was a blue color instead of the normal red, also with similar burn markings. His mustache seemed like it was hardly cared for, it was frizzy and lopsided, singed to the point where small embers seemed to be resting in the hairs. And finally, the look in his eyes was familiar and yet not. It looked like when he had spent days on a redstone project and still hadn’t figured it out, but turned up a thousand percent.
“So, how about two rustic houses and a rustic mansion?”
“I already told you what I want!”
“Fine, just one rustic house. I know about that project you’re working on and wouldn’t it look nice if instead of that concrete base-”
“Fine! Fine! I don’t want anything. Just don’t fuck up my redstone!”
“Okay!”
Jrum watched as the daddy clone stomped off before looking to see who had helped him. When he turned to look, he saw a familiar face. “Dad?” Then his memory from just before powering off came back. “N-no… y-you’re not my dad! Wh-who are you?!”
The person smiled. “Don’t worry! I’m your friend! It’s nice to meet you!”
“What do you mean?” Jrum asked warily.
“You kept coming to visit me in the village, didn’t you?”
Jrum paused. Though this person looked like his dad, their voice wasn’t quite the same. But it did match the voice of his friend. “Why do you look like my dad?”
“Oh! Because we’re not just friends. We’re also family!”
Jrum tilted his head. “Is that why you look like my dad?”
“Yeah! Because he’s my dad too! In fact, he named me NPC Grian, but I normally get called NPG.”
“Wait… so does that mean you’re also my brother?”
“Yep! In fact, I’m the oldest! From what you’ve said, you’re the youngest?”
Jrum nodded. “Yeah, I guess you got built first and then Grum got built and then me!”
NPG smiled and then hugged his younger brother. “Well, now that we can see each other face to face, how about we explore the world? We’ll have to stay together because not everyone is nice, but I’m sure you’ll be fine!
“Okay! That sounds fun! But um… can you carry me? Walking so far before wasn’t fun…”
NPG tilted his head in confusion. “Why didn’t you use elytra?”
“Grum and I can’t use them. Daddy says it’s ‘cause of our proportions or something.”
“Well then! We’ll have to see if Prof can do anything about that! He’s pretty nice, I think you’ll like him!”
“Do we have to go far?”
“Nope! We can use the aether to get there! Since it’s faster!”
“What’s that?”
“Well it seems to be whatever is here instead of the nether. Everything is really backwards here. But it’s not too hard to wrap your head around, like with rustic houses!”
Jrum frowned at that. Like rustic houses. He couldn’t wrap his head around those. So he was probably going to just get more confused here.
“Alright! Let’s go!” NPG picked up Jrum and walked off, going to a portal with glowing blocks and blue magic in the middle. Jrum rested his head on his brother’s shoulder as the magic swirled around them before moving them to another dimension.

Assigning some Ferry's songs to Last Life characters
I just happened to listen a lot of Ferry while brainrotting LL and now you have to deal with it
Some of those more about just the vibe of the song, some have fitting lyrics, you know the drill
RAPID TRANSIT - This song can be pretty much about all red lifers (like, overall), but if i had to choose only one as the most fitting to this song, i would pick Joel. Not really much explanations here, it just works in my head.
Mr Fox And The Disheartened Girl - Oh, this one is Martyn for sure. To be more specific, i think this song kinda fits the whole Watcher lore thing (obviously with Watcher as mr Fox and Martyn as the girl (without, like, wanting to die part)). Plus, i really like "This game is tearing myself and my world from the//Inside" part in regards of him.
The Faulty Feline Philosophy - Definitely Scar, in fact, this song was literally my first thought after i watched his session 5 video. "For the first time I felt pure excitement//At the limitless prospect of the mad//Adventures to be had | The counter's set to number 9//I'm feeling so alive" - well uh change 9 to 6 (because thats how many lives Scar got at the start which is max amount of lives you could get at the start bla bla you already know that), this goes hard. "With my flesh all torn to shreds//I see the number tick to null//I guess there was a certain death//I failed to take into account" - this part goes both for his final death (obviously, "number tick to null") and at the same time for him turning red at the end of 5th session (at the start of that session he had 7 lives, so having only 1 at the end is really not that different from having none.)
The rest under the cut.
DEAD HAND - Oooh this one is 4th-7th session Grian&Mumbo, i listened to DH far too many times after 4th session (and then after 5th. and then after 6th. and then- im a sad man). The song sounds very "something goes wrong and everything is catastrophically crumbling down and ends badly" which is. Very the vibes i getting from them. "The grave is all too lonely without your sickly body by my side" - lord almighty; "What a shame, you may call it senseless//But I am now devoid of what I would call//"The hindrance of love"" - goes very well with Grian becoming red after The Ghast Farm Incident; "Greetings from the underworld" - i feel sick im so normal about the whole "We can still be friends" bit. "A vision of you fades away like a mirage//Oh, it's a beautiful catastrophe" - woo hoo Grian got a life and became yellow again , the boys are reunited- what is it, the 6th sesession, Mumbo is boogey, everything happens, Mumbo is red now, its barely the start of the session. YEP beautiful catastrophe. ""Oh, this is all wrong!"//But I don't mind at all//Turn up the volume//Execute the protocol//You know it's M.A.D//And it's all about to blow" - "We can still be friends" bit? That part where Mumbo basically blew up pretty big chunk of Southlands? Dare i say, that part of 7th session that ended up in Grian permakilling Jimmy and Mumbo? i feel sick ("M.A.D" is Mutually Assured Destruction, we do not look at what it is irl (because we already ignoring here the whole what is Dead Hand system, we just doing some "haha those funky lyrics fits blockman stuff"), we just taking the phrase and run with it okay?) "What an unfortunate way to end this show//I shed a tear as you vanish in the snow" - just end me already.
through me to you - This one feels like BigB&Cleo (more BigB, than Cleo, but you get me) post BigB murdering Cleo. This song has that bittersweet and nostalgic vibe, "reminds of the things i've lost and won't ever be able to get back, things i regret, things i wish i'd done differently" (quote from comments under the song, it explained my thoughts very well and i suck at explaining my thoughts myself)
I hate it! - This one is Tango (6th-8th session). It sounds like an anger you can't do anything about, some sort of frustration. There isnt really any lyrics to point out (ok, kinda lying, "And in the end just one sorry note sorry note escapes my throat" is kinda fun in relation to the sounds of rage that Tango made after being murdered by Bdubs), the song just fits him pretty well imo.
Hack Writer - OK. LET'S PREFACE IT WITH ONE THING - I COMPLETELY (98%) IGNORED THE LYRICS english is not my first language its easy for me. That's not what i usually do, i'm all for fitting lyrics, but my brain heard the music spinning and whirling (idk how to really explain it) and went - yeah, that does give off some red life Mumbo vibes. Here's instrumental for that song.
hardbass night - I can't really explain why, but this song gives off huge Pearl vibe. Trust me, I'm russian (/hj). Plus, it's fun to assign a song, that is basically some sort of trashy rave music to a person, who blew up someone in a dancing room.
dopamine_machine - This one is also red life Mumbo. "Oh, this one is completely different vibe from Hack Writer-" well that's because now i look at him in the context of Grian&Mumbo storyline ("You’re running lemonade at thirty-six degrees centigrade//Inside your lemon veins//And your heart’s a lemon grenade" lemon(ade) -> yellow -> well, who was yellow when Mumbo was red? Just end me-). "And feel the taste of lead//Again, my friend" - ok the definition of "lead" in the song is supposed to be "metal" one, but since "lead" also means some sort of winning position, we are taking it instead. Something something these lyrics (the whole outro tbh) fitting to Mumbo being permakilled by Grian something something yes, i heard "my friend" part and went absolutely bonkers.
Bonus:
Occam's razor - This one is Grian&Mumbo again. i talk about them a lot here. not my problem tho. Starting with the whole Verse 1 ("So, I see, I found myself pinned up against another//Impenetrable wall//No, it won't take long at all//Short talk and go, don't look so shocked, come on!//It's fine//And even though I think this could be our goodbye//There's defiance in your eyes//Ah, of course, it must be pitiful to see someone with a face like this//Even if that somebody is me...") and, fuck it, the Chorus after ("It's a dead-end endeavor, it's time you understood//That this whole situation won't bring you any good!//Oh, I know that your heart's beating faster than it should//But I can't let you in - wouldn't even if I could") - Ghast Farm incident-"We can still be friends" bit goes brrrrr. "But I can't let you in, even though I wish I could" from songs outro just hurts me here on emotional level.
message lost - This one is Etho&Bdubs. I can't even explain the feeling that this song gave me, and why is it so them. It's just fits.
[guess what, its 17.10.2022 and its a lil update time, because brainrot staying strong fellas]
Convergence - take a wild guess. Yeah it's Grian&Mumbo (im not really over them lmao) , specifically 5-7 session vibes. ill spare myself and just put some fitting lyrics lmao: "Too naive to run on the edge of the knife//This is the worst [BEST] mistake I [YOU] could make in [YOUR] my life//To spark a flame I was [YOU WERE] never meaning to light//I never wanted to [YOU'RE SMART ENOUGH TO NOT] ignite//A losing fight//[RIGHT?]" || "So now that we are caught in a candid shot//And I know it’s all my fault//My blood’s running cold, yet//The air is getting hot//Every single word hits another nasty spot" || "As I've anticipated//Looks like your sense of decency has long degraded//But don’t forget with whom you are associated//Which sounds unfair, but fair play is overrated" || "It’s not about the strength, it’s about where you strike//You see, by now I’ve got no more dust left to bite//I’ve weaponized my helpless spite//Now how about that pride of yours?"
Ferry Medley // 22 Song Vocaloid Medley (by tart) - i just like that medley :]

Always love this
Sccarlet SFW Alphabet
Tumblr media
A = Affection (How affectionate are they? How do they show affection?)
Sccarlet's affection is pretty subtle! A lot of the time, she enjoys touching you, particularly with hand holding. Baby likes to be around you.
She always unexpectedly has the things you need. Need armor? Pulls out full Netherite that totally didn't take her hours to grind. Need a potion? Boom. While she doesn't think it's gift-giving, it's exactly what it is.
B = Best friend (What would they be like as a best friend? How would the friendship start?)
Scarrlet is a very loyal best friend! Very shy, though. You probably approached first! Or you were in a bad mood and she came up to ask what's wrong.
As a result of being her friend, you hang around Techno and Philza a lot. If you're not a government despising anarchist, the Ghast finds you a breath of fresh air. If you are, expect her to join in your less chaotic antics.
C = Cuddles (Do they like to cuddle? How would they cuddle?)
Really likes cuddling a lot! To her, it's both comforting and relaxing. Can and will play with your hair, and will turn into a flustered mess when you mess with hers.
A lot of calming positions! She's also really fond of spooning.
D = Domestic (Do they want to settle down? How are they at cooking and cleaning?)
The domestic life is something Sccarlet enjoys in other people, but doesn't do it herself. In terms of cleaning, she's pretty good. Not a fan of messes and she can be fast when she wants to.
In terms of food, she's pretty good at cooking Hoglins. Anything that isn't meat? Sorry, but she's not your gal. Potions, on the other hand-
E = Ending (If they had to break up with their partner, how would they do it?)
Tries to do it as gently as possible. She keeps stammering on her words and looks down when she finally lets it out. She'll quietly ask if you want to be friends instead, and if you say no, she'll leave quickly. Truly, I don't think she'd ever fall out of love. It would probably be due to wanting to keep you safe from the war. When she leaves, she'll greatly miss you, but will try to convince herself that it was for the best.
F = Fiance(e) (How do they feel about commitment? How quick would they want to get married?)
Commitment? Hell yeah. Sccarlet is a loyal hybrid who will go to the end of the world for those she gives a giant shit about, and you're one of those people.
Marriage, however? She's a bit iffy on that. She'll probably pop the question after a year or two, probably on a date or during an initiate moment. If you do like weddings, that's cool! Sccarlet will respect your wishes.
G = Gentle (How gentle are they, both physically and emotionally?)
Do you even need to ask? Even to strangers, Sccarlet is gentle. That's her as a person. Psychically or emotionally, she's soft. Honestly, the girl is anything but a tease.
H = Hugs (Do they like hugs? How often do they do it? What are their hugs like?)
A sucker for reunion hugs! She's fond of the cliché 'running up to you and embracing one another' hug generally seen in media; she finds it really cute!
Also buries her face into your neck. When she does it, you'll be able to hear happy Ghast noises which is ironic since they're always crying
I = I love you (How fast do they say the L-word?)
Sccarlet unintentionally tends to use other words then love, most commonly 'I adore you'. Her first ILY would be really tender, in a calming serene moment, as she murmurs it out peacefully.
Love. This. Girl
J = Jealousy (How jealous do they get? What do they do when they’re jealous?)
Sccarlet doesn't get jealous that often! She trusts you enough to still love her in the end, and besides, she tries to get on good terms with a lot of people. She has enough faith in you, but there's always that one guy to piss her off.
When it happens, very clingy. She tends to pout at the dude, but otherwise stays silent. If the guy ever crosses boundaries, Sccarlet will release the natural Nether instincts and release Hell on the dude. Of course, she's spitting apologies right after.
K = Kisses (What are their kisses like? Where do they like to kiss you? Where do they like to be kissed?)
Fond of quick little pecks on the cheek! She really enjoys scar kisses, and when you kiss hers, she'll be over the moon.
Rarely initiates make-out sessions. If you wanna do that, you're gonna have to take the lead.
L = Little ones (How are they around children?)
Honestly, not great. She's just not great with kids. Teenagers? Yeah. Actual children? Hell no. She gets stressed easily, and with how loud and disobedient kids can be, it's a living Hell.
While she'd want kids of her own alongside you, she'd wait until the SMP is more peaceful.
M = Morning (How are mornings spent with them?)
Early bird. Sccarlet just naturally gets up early. She'll probably get some tea, make some quick breakfast before doing a relaxing activity. Probably fishing or farming.
Whenever she needs to leave for supplies or for meetings, she'll leave a small little note on the bedside table. She's always quick to come back, though
N = Night (How are nights spent with them?)
Like every other time with Sccarlet, relaxing! More fishing and farming, most likely a book or two in her hand before heading off to bed. She falls asleep incredibly quickly, so if she gets comfy in the couch, gently wake her up before she falls asleep.
O = Open (When would they start revealing things about themselves? Do they say everything all at once or wait a while to reveal things slowly?)
Sometime after your first kiss, she'll tell you her real name. Her true identity of Sirese is only told to those she trusts, so good for me! While it's a 'I trust you, here's a secret' move, she gets really suspicious when you say it suspiciously. Be it if you're dying or pissed, she doesn't like it. She'd prefer her name coming out sweet, thank you very much.
To some extent, Sccarlet's open about her grief. Don't be surprised when she clings to you sobbing out WIlbur, L'manburg or another traumatizing incident.
She doesn't spill anything on you. She's more of a 'ask me whatever whenever and I'll tell you' kind of open.
P = Patience (How easily angered are they?)
Scarrlet is rarely angry! She's a very patient person. However, her Nether instincts and the voices in her head are more prone to anger, and when they form into a more darker and aggressive side of her rather then just some annoying voices, she finds herself getting way more irritable due to stress and just how loud they are.
Her anger is rather easy to fade, though. Just whisper some calming words and hold her, and soon enough, the anger will evaporate.
Q = Quizzes (How much would they remember about you? Do they remember every little detail you mention in passing or do they kind of forget everything?)
Sccarlet's def the type to keep a small enchanted notebook of your likes! She writes down anything she thinks is useful and important to you, even on a minor scale. Sccarlet doesn't want to forget anything in case it ends up important and leads to disappointment from you.
R = Remember (What is their favorite moment in your relationship?)
A calm moment. It doesn't matter what it is. But during those rare moments when war isn't lingering over her heads, where she can forget the bodies and the pain a Totem of Undying causes with you? Those are something she'll never forget. You're a presence that makes her calm. You could've just been fishing together without any significance to you, but to her? That serenity was beautiful and she wishes she could have more of it.
S = Security (How protective are they? How would they protect you? How would they like to be protected?)
Very protective. She lost the person who was basically a brother to her, saw the country she worked so hard to keep destroyed numerous times, the constant betrayal and the grief forming into one loud voice instead of numerous tiny voices? You bet her ass she won't lose you.
When she gets involved in wars, she'll do whatever it takes to keep you out of them. If you ever do and get injured, you've never going on the battlefield again. She's lost so much, she is not losing you.
T = Try (How much effort would they put into dates, anniversaries, gifts, everyday tasks?)
She lets you collect her Ghast tears for potions! With dates, she'll try her best to make them relaxing for the both of you, mostly libraries, picnics and the one cat café in the country.
Like said before, she'll write down any important anniversary or date in her notebook!
U = Ugly (What would be some bad habits of theirs?)
Out of nowhere, Sccarlet just cries. She doesn't even know that there's still leftover tears until you're both cleaning and there's a giant clunk of tear shaped shiny things on the floor.
V = Vanity (How concerned are they with their looks?)
Depends! While she doesn't really care about her looks, her facial scars are always an insecurity of hers, since they remind her of the Manburg VS Pogtopia war, which is how they were gained.
Clothes, however? Girl pays attention to what she's wearing and she wants to look good.
W = Whole (Would they feel incomplete without you?)
Umm,,,,, yessss,,,,,,?
You're the one person who makes Sccarlet feel completely safe. Without you, she'd have no idea on what to do. You're her safe haven, and she'd be damned to lose it.
If you get corrupted by the Egg, mark her words that she'll find a way to bring you back. Her hatred will grow to that overgrown red manipulator and becomes even more pro-omelette.
X = Xtra (A random headcanon for them.)
When she gets frightened (most notably a skeleton), she'll quickly jump into your arms. She has no idea she did until a few seconds later as she embarrassedly tries to get out of your grip.
Y = Yuck (What are some things they wouldn’t like, either in general or in a partner?)
If you eat chewing gum, go to a place where she can't hear it. Sccarlet despises the sound of chewing gum, and if you leave it around without the packaging, you'll have the rare sight of an angry Sccarlet.
Z = Zzz (What is are some sleep habits of theirs?)
Blanket stealing. And once again, instinctive crying. While she likes being close, you'll need to be a bit apart since you'll wake up with a tiny mountain of Ghast tears and your blanket gone if you share one.
While it may sound a bit weird, she prefers having two separate beds close to each other. She likes her own pillows and covers.

Pax and her Potions: Prt 3/3
Part 1 & Part 2 @anxiousworm @vlanderzine yeet this is kinda long and I don’t regret it
Pax clung to the unburnt material of her cloak and tried her best to mute her crying. The pain hadn’t dulled and the smell was festering in the tight space she was buried under. Pushing herself up as much as she could, she listened for the whining-wail of the ghast that nearly blew her up.
Digging herself out with shaking hands, she coughed and spat out a mix of spit and coagulated ashes. Gingerly probing her back as she walked, Pax traced the edges of her burn. It was big, about the size of both her hands, spreading the width of her right shoulder blade. She did her best to hide the injury and make it look like there wasn’t a charred hole in her clothes.
Climbing back up the netherrack mountains and avoiding the piglin patrols ached. The sudden awareness of time also started chewing away at her.
Space in the Nether was a screwy concept Pax had only the barest idea of how it worked. Time was another factor entirely. She berated herself all the while as she backtracked to her tunnel, silently regretting ever choosing to jump into this hell as literally as possible.
Shuffling her hands around her midsection, her fingers bumped into the nether wart. Her train of self-loathing paused for a moment as she rubbed against the smooth texture of the forgien plant. Out of impulse, Pax tore off a bit and popped it into her mouth.
The flavour was surprisingly not terrible. It was some mix of sour-spicy and juicer than she expected from a plant that grew around lava pits and fire monsters. Even the aftertaste was tolerable. Pax wasn’t sure if that meant she was weird, or something else.
Finally coming upon her tunnel, she began her climb down and was filled with relief at the thought of being able to go to bed. Then, after hearing the sound of pickaxes beneath her, another moment of self realization hit her.
She’d thought of a way through the portal, but she hadn’t considered a way out. Thinking harder about it, the guards would be stationed by the portal and she didn’t know their shifts. So if she did go through, there’d be no easy way to escape.
“Fuck,” She hissed. She wanted to scream so badly, the urge clogged her throat.
Pax beat her frustration into the ground, punching and crumbling the sandy red stone under her fist. More bruises would form and some small, logical part of her said getting more injuries wouldn’t help. She ignored it until she worried that a knuckle would split.
Dropping her head between her legs, she sat at the mouth of her makeshift tunnel and tried to consider her options. Staying in the Nether was not viable and going home would mean facing her parents and whatever reaction they’d have to her. Pax laughed to herself, pushing up her sweaty hair and started to climb back down the tunnel.
The other miners in the main tunnel didn’t notice her - she pulled up her hood to keep them from recognizing her too - and most were solely focused on mining the quartz used to build the redstone components the engineers relied so heavily on.
That sparked the inkling of an idea. As Pax made her way back to the portal, she found a small vein and chipped away at some small fragments. Her pockets were stuffed to the brim but she managed to make room.
Shuffling down to the hub, a steady stream of workers and guards made their way through from the overworld portal. Most didn’t look too dissimilar from her, with ashy pants and faces from their time in this dimension. She kept her pickaxe hanging by her side to try and look like one of them as she shuffled through the crowd.
The sunlight was harsher than she expected on her eyes. Bringing up one hand to block her face, Pax realized with a startling fear that the sun was up.
“Hey, you there!” One of the guards called out. “Don’t move!”
Pax didn’t - running would’ve been futile - but still flinched when they turned to look at her face.
“Have you seen - Miss Valora?” He startled. “You - you’re here? Your parents are worried sick, come, I’ll call for an escort to your residence.”
“Sure.”
The march back felt more like a funeral procession to the wannabe alchemist. People pointed at her as she walked, Pax could imagine all the terrible rumors that would spill from this incident. No doubt her parents reputation would drop and any she had left would crumble to dust.
Cynicism drenched her mind as they came upon the street her house was built on. It wasn’t as if she cared what people thought of her and it wasn’t like they cared about her. Pax made a bet with herself on whether or not she’d be yelled at for leaving her room or causing a disturbance first.
“Miss Valora! Where were you! We had the entire city searching for you, this sort of teenage rebellion is idiotic. You’ve made yourself look like a fool!”
Flinching at the sound of her mother crying out, Pax shuffled into the doorway and kept at arm's length from both parents.
“Couldn’t find the materials for the farm. So I just went out and got ‘em.” She lied.
“Well why didn’t you just go into the markets? Why did you have to go into the Nether! You aren’t allowed to be by yourself in such a dangerous place at all!”
Pax rolled her eyes. “I probably shouldn’t be up till sunrise working on machines that aren’t broken, but we don’t always get what we want.”
“That was for you to learn! We both explained everything and you didn’t listen. Do you want us to yell at you?”
“Sure,” Pax forced her voice neutral. Her lip still twitched, “I’m gonna go change.”
She didn’t run up the stairs, but she could tell her parents were still behind her and intending on lecturing her. Pulling the door open and hastily throwing it shut, she frantically searched her room for something to barricade her door. A flash of impulse told her to just jump out the window and make a break for it.
Finally, when she heard her parents' footsteps pause by her bedroom and finally descend down the stairs, Pax collapsed to her knees and tore off her burned clothes.
“Didn’t even realize it,” she laughed with bitter satisfaction, “you didn’t even fucking notice. And they call me the idiot.”
Grabbing a spare water bottle to try and wash down the ashy taste in her mouth, Pax grabbed a small pair of shears and began cutting away the ruined cloak to make bandages. She cleaned off the wound as long as she could tolerate and finished wrapping her back.
Sorting through the resources she gathered, she tossed aside the quartz and dumped all of her new ingredients onto her desk.
The orange-slime thing the piglin gave her looked exciting, so Pax began with that. Under the morning light, she ran through all the steps of preparing the brewing stand before finally adding the nether wart. Watching it filter into the water filled her with the same mix of dread and glee exploring the Nether gave her.
Once it was finally gone, Pax was surprised to see that the water didn’t look that changed. There was a very, very slight, opaqueness to the liquid and the sense that something was different. Pax decided to trust her intuition.
Gathering a clump of the orange slime, the amature alchemist sucked in a breath and poured it into the brewing stand.
“Please work, please, please, please work for me just this once,” She begged, “don’t let this be a waste.”
It felt like hours were ticking by as she watched the water bubble in the glass bottles. Her fingers picked at her arms, nearly breaking skin from anxiety that crawled across her body.
She hardly believed it when the water turned a shimmering, rich amber.
“No way,” Pax’s eyes lit up.
Gingerly, she pulled the glass bottle free. The liquid was glowing, there was no mistaking it. Clapping one hand over her mouth, Pax could feel more tears running down her cheeks. Happy hiccuping noises filled her throat and she had to stop herself from dancing around her bedroom.
She didn’t even hesitate to swallow the entire contents. The spice was unexpected and the flavor burned deliciously down her throat. Pax relished in the sudden pulse of warmth through her body and the tingle of magic running through her veins. There was an effect, now it was just a matter of figuring out what.
That could come later, she jotted down that combination in her notebook and switched in a new bottle.
Pax blended together all the ingredients she could find; golden carrots, leaves, redstone, sugar, gold nuggets, anything and everything she could find stashed away in her room.
The orange potion, she realized, was a form of fire immunity when she ran into a torch and it didn’t leave a burn. The silvery-blue mix left her feeling hyper and charged with energy. When she mixed up her ingredients with extra blaze powder for the brewing stand, the mix left her feeling like she could fist fight a zombie horde and win. The one she accidentally dropped a golden carrot into cleared her vision and allowed her to see perfectly in the dim evening light.
It was only when Pax had ran out of clean bottles and all but the night vision had worn off did she relax against her bed.
“I actually did it,” she said to herself, “I actually did it. This worked, I did this. I did this.”
An immense feeling of pride rose in her. Then, after a pause, anger.
“Call me stupid now,” Pax scoffed.
She broke out into laughter bordering on hysterics. Her vision was sharpened beyond any normal senses, her thin muscles ripped with adrenaline and her entire body was immune to fire. No machine could accomplish this, no set of redstone and repeaters could grant this kind of power.
This was a lost innovation she’d rediscovered all on her own. Pax wondered what her parents would say about it.
Pax considered it. She’d done research, kept notes, and did all the things engineers did. Just with magic instead of redstone. And there could be practical uses for this; keeping miners in the Nether safe, helping people working in the low light mob farms, all manner of things.
The idea of being able to help others, combined with the hope of making her parents proud made for a compelling argument. But just to be safe, Pax hid away her brewing stand ard her notes, taking one of her fire resistance potions down with her as proof.
She’d ignored the call to dinner, but now she climbed down the stairs with her heart pounding against her chest. The table was silent, but the sounds of utensils on plates paused when she came down.
“So, there’s something I’ve been working on.” Pax muttered.
“I couldn’t hear that,” Her mother snipped.
“Speak up,” Her father ordered, “you know you shouldn’t mumble.”
Breathing out, she nodded, “I was working on a project in my free time. I finally had a breakthrough… and… I dunno, I thought you would want to know.”
Her hands were shaking as she pulled out the bottle and set it on the table. Both her parents stared at it, expressions unreadable.
“I-it’s a fire resistance potion. Like the ones from the stories, but it works I swear,” She started to ramble, “I took one and I fell into a torch but it didn’t burn me and I think if you fell in lava like in the cobblestone generators it’d be helpful to those working in them and prevent injuries and - “
Her mother pushed herself out of her chair and glared down at her, “This is what you’ve been doing? Is this why you tried to sneak out last night?”
“Y-yes but I promise it’ll be important. I can make more and I can - “
“This is what you’ve been wasting your time on?”
Glass shattered as Pax watched the bottle shatter across the floor.
“You idiot! You have so many opportunities and you’re wasting all of them! Me and your father have given you every chance to learn and you refuse every time! It’s like you want us to be mad at you, is that it?”
“It’s not!” Pax sobbed, “I don’t want this! I don’t want you to be mad at me! Do you seriously think I want this?”
“Then why don’t you listen to your mother?” Her father added, arms crossed with vague disappointment.
“I do! I swear I was really trying. I wasn’t being lazy!”
“Then why aren’t you better? If you really want to be better, then why aren’t you working to be better?” Her mother yelled back.
“Well maybe I’m just a fucking idiot then!”
Pax sprinted back up to her room. This time, she shoved her entire bed against the door. Eyes blurry, she ran to grab all her belongings and stuffed them into a bag and her pockets. Outside, it began to rain.
The wall she’d broken the night before was still loose.
She threw herself into the branches of the nearby tree, then downed one of her swiftness potions and made a break for the gates.
Guards stationed by the entrance noticed her approach. Pax barreled past then, throwing off their arms as she pushed towards the wilderness. Her vision was still saturated, and along with her tears, it gave everything she saw a blurry, dream like quality.
She couldn’t remember how long she ran for. When her legs finally started to cramp and the cold started seeping through her clothes.
Gasping for air and whipping her dripping nose, Pax looked up to her surroundings. Through the trees, she could see stars in the deep navy sky. Her vision flickered and everything went dark for a perilous moment.
She was cold, terrified and exhausted. The alchemist robotically ordered herself to find shelter and she started wandering deeper into the woods.
There wasn’t much that looked like shelter. But ‘shelter’ to Pax always looked like four walls and a roof. Before her potion effects faded, she spotted an entrance to a small tunnel and the faint light of a torch.
She nearly slipped on the stone as she made her way down. Oddly, Pax noticed that the torch was made from redstone. Shrugging off her wet cloak, she couldn’t find the energy to care about that anomaly.
Resting her shoulder against the perfectly smooth - were they supposed to be smooth? - walls of the cave, Pax rolled one of her potions between her fingers and listened to the patter of rain.

there's a parallel in last life that I don't see talked about as much as it deserves and so I'm going to dissect the ever-living hell out of it. remember the ghast farm incident? everyone remembers the ghast farm incident. Grian turns red, he starts knocking blocks of a bridge out from under Mumbo, "there's a way we can still be friends," etc etc etc. it's fantastic. WELL. two sessions earlier, there's a similar confrontation between Scar and Joel after Joel turns red, except the roles are reversed. Joel approaches and it's Scar who starts breaking blocks of the bridge, trying to put distance between the two of them. HOWEVER, the interesting difference here is that Scar is doing it not because he doesn't want to be Joel's friend anymore, but because he still wants to be. lets take a look at a transcript of part of that scene, shall we?
[Scar breaks several blocks of the bridge.] Joel: Scar, what are you doing? I know you're not my friend anymore, but come on, Scar. Not the bridge. Scar: I wanted to make an arrangement. Are- are we not friends? Joel: We can't be friends, Scar. We can't be friends.
Scar knows that Joel is a red life and that he might hurt him, but he still wants to be friends, so he's providing a way that they can be near each other while he isn't in any danger by putting a gap in the bridge. he even breaks it again when he comes by to chat later. during that chat, Joel reminds him of how dangerous he is, Scar says he "gets it," and then proceeds to let him continue living under magical mountain. Scar doesn't "get" that he needs to be cautious of Joel—what he "gets" is that he's taking a risk by letting him stay and that he's already accepted something might happen. and he's OKAY with that. Joel is red. he gets it.
now compare that to this excerpt from the ghast farm incident:
Grian: Y'know, Mumbo, there's a way we can still be friends. Mumbo: Yeah? Grian: Yeah. [he starts breaking blocks at of Mumbo's feet] You could join me.
with Joel and Scar, it's a red life choosing to step away from his friend in order to protect him, while said friend tries to find a way that they can still be near each other without placing himself in danger. with Grian and Mumbo, it's a red life choosing to try to take his friend down with him so that they can be near each other because he can't accept not being his friend. the fact that in BOTH scenarios the friendship is symbolized by a bridge being broken is a perfect illustration of one of Grian's lines from the ghast farm incident: "it was a bad idea for the wrong reasons." those friendships should have been a good idea, those bridges should have been a good idea, but now they provide a connection that isn't safe, and they all know that.
and I'm not done talking about this. no no no no no. this offers a FASCINATING insight into why desert duo is Like That. Scar would sooner let Grian kill him than have to stop being his friend. Grian would sooner kill Scar than have to stop being his friend. which is all kinds of perfectly fucked up and explains exactly why 3rd life ended the way that it did. it also makes the cactus scene from double life very interesting to think about. remember the cactus scene? it's a doozy.
Grian starts session by dropping a stalactite on Scar's head as a prank and (unintentionally) taking them down to two and a half hearts. Scar then retaliates by leaning against a cactus until Grian breaks it. he then leans against Yet Another Cactus until Grian breaks that one too, at which point they are at only one heart. a question I've been asking since that day is this: if Grian hadn't broken the cactus, would Scar have stepped away before it was too late?
using bridge theory, we can find an answer to this.
the answer is no.
this isn't necessarily because Scar is actively trying to get them killed—it's more because he knows with absolute certainty that Grian will break the cactus. he's not prepared to step away because he isn't worried he needs to. see, the difference between Grian and Scar is that Grian is willing to throw around the lives of other people to get what he wants, and Scar is willing to throw around his own life to get what he wants (the fact that what they really want out of all this is often the other's trust is an issue I will dissect another day). once again, last life is the perfect example of this. Grian steals a life from Scar right off the bat and gets another one out of him by force a few episodes later. meanwhile, Scar makes a business out of selling his soul and threatens Team BEST that he'll kill himself in order to go red life crazy on them. and they don't doubt him! and they SHOULDN'T doubt him, because Scar is the kind of guy that would do that! the same way that Grian is the kind of guy who will drop a stalactite on his soulmate's head but break the cactus he's leaning against.
Grian is willing to risk Scar's life, but he's not okay with Scar risking his own life, because he knows that he's completely willing to stand against a cactus until he dies if it makes a point. so Grian breaks it.
but Scar knows Grian as well as Grian knows him. Scar knows that this is hardly a risk at all. so he leans against the cactus a third second time.
