also Very interesting to me how transness is completely accepted in the silt verses and misgendering/deadnaming is nonexistent, but the only two references to transitioning in the show are about the exorbitant medical cost. (dennis saying he helped pay for paige's transition and now faulkner's father apologizing for not being able to afford T for him.)

the decision to forgo transphobic worldbuilding and not to hold the listener's hand wrt Explaining Transness is Very intentional, which makes the choice to reference transition like this stand out even more. everybody in this world will gender you correctly no matter what you look like, but if you actually want to feel like Yourself through transitioning, you gotta pay for that. which means you gotta sell yourself to a church or a corporation. all systems functioning as intended....

Going a little nuts about adjudicator Shrue honestly. Their arc, starting out genuinely trying to fight for their beliefs and slowly getting worn down, giving in and compromising their principles bit by bit. It's so devastatingly believable. The worst thing is they still want to fight for what they think is right. They still want to try to make things better. But they let themself get pulled in too deep. They conceded too much, let their conviction slip bit by bit and now they're trapped. Condemned to be used as the mouth piece for a twisted bastardization of their original cause. Under threat of loosing a family they're not even sure really exists. It's so fucking sick.

And it's partially their own fault. They betrayed their ideals multiple times in order to maintain their position. But also the system they're in was never going to let them carry on being so staunchly anti war and anti sacrifice. Instead they they've been manipulated, threatened and now fully co-opted into backing polices that are the exact opposite of their original positions. It just feels so horribly familiar.

Anyways, been fucking sucker-punched in the gut by this damn show once again. Can't wait for the next one.

Hayward is the single funniest fucker in this podcast I swear. Carpenter's bafflement at Hayward coming to her defense at the end of S3EP1 as she was ready to die and enthusiastically calling her "an old friend" when like. The last time Carpenter saw Hayward he'd been handcuffed by Paige screaming at Carpenter that he'd hunt her down to the ends of the earth. Their interactions prior to that from her perspective where being detained and interrogated by him, and him talking her ear off about his failing marriage (which yes was an act and also actually him talking about his relationship to his job, but Carpenter thinks he's a cringe fail divorced policeman). This is the man who saves her at her lowest. This same fucking guy who was a cop hunting her in S1.

"Old friend" fucking hell Hayward. I love you.
