When Machete became a cardinal, did his parents ever recognize him?

Machete's home village was on the other side of Italy (and separated by the sea no less) and it was small, relatively rural and remote. It's very unlikely many news about Holy See's happenings made their way there. I don't think his parents had any reason to expect to ever hear about him again, he seemed to be somewhat of a lost cause when they dropped him off.

#to my best understanding class divide was so immense you'd be very unlikely to ever encounter a single bishop in person let alone a cardinal #and people didn't move around like they do now chances are you'd die in the same town you were born in without ever leaving it #Machete tends to stick out visually and he's an important figure so maybe he's known by word of mouth even outside of the Vatican walls #if his parents met him they might maybe recognize him but he probably wouldn't recognize them #he doesn't remember much of anything from his early childhood #he doesn't go by his original birth name he was renamed at the monastery and has essentially reinvented himself since he became a cardinal #so ties to his sicilian past are largely cut I think #social classes were very fixed and rigid I believe one of the only ways to move to a higher status was to become part of the clergy #and again you needed to be at least passably literate to do that that was the largest roadblock #Machete may be kind of pathetic but his social climbing skills are nothing short of remarkable #part of it is just dumb luck but he is exceedingly hardworking and very very good at what he's doing #it took him less than 30 years to move from a provincial foundling to pope's right hand man #answered #anonymous #Machete

Fun fact I used to consume a lot of Land of the Lustrous stuff.

Anyways this is one of my many Land of the Lustrous OCs, Vivianite. Mohs hardness of 1.5, dark green/blue in colour, and very old. Due to the nature of his weak composition, Vivianite can't actually do much of anything, and has had to live under very specific conditions.

Vivianite wears a tight full body uniform to hold any chipped pieces in place, and is kept in a box stuffed with loose cloth to ensure minimal damage. If he comes into contact with light, he begins to oxidize and darken, so he's kept in a windowless room with curtains over the entrance.

That's all to say he's isolated and bored. He spends much of his time inactive, but he'll jump at the opportunity for conversation if there's someone around. Certain gems visit him to chat, get guidance, or give him the recent news. A task given to some gems is to clear his room of dust, and maybe bring him some books if he's up for it.

Vivian sees himself as an older sibling/friend to many of the other gems, and as such he's very keen on providing a listening ear and giving advice where possible to those who need it. He's essentially emotional support in a can.

Other notes/details:

not all gems know Vivian exists! He's hidden away so most gems wouldn't see him unless they were actively looking for him. A lot of the older ones know about him, but the younger ones don't

Rutile is endlessly tired of having to glue him back together so often due to his softness, which is part of why he has a tighter uniform to keep all his broken pieces in place

Vivian struggles with walking, he tends to be slow and stumbly

the tanks in Vivian's room are for jellyfish. Gems who are sent to clean his room have to switch out the jellyfish too. They're there to provide a faint light source so he doesn't go completely inactive

Vivian, despite living in a box in the dark, has a lot of technical knowledge about things as a result of millennia of going through the library collection. He' a living encyclopedia and can usually offer some answers if a gem has questions on a particular subject

his internal structure is basically a lot of shards stuck together like fibers, so he does minor repairs on himself by affixing strands of his hair into empty spots. He's had his fingers repaired and replaced this way often

In the few instances where Vivian has gone outside, he has an abnormally high amount of energy as a result of his inclusions being able to work at full capacity in the light

He does this knowing the risk and he couldn't care less #also also‚ he has weird inclusions. What makes them odd is the fact that he can move them around and concentrate them in different areas #he's stiff cause he keep most of his inclusions packed in his torso‚ not his limbs. This also ensures he doesn't lose anything #by touching something and having his fingers (inevitably) flake apart #There's more but I'll save that for later. Good day ^^

in the amelia pond au, amelia’s aunt does still send her to therapy between doctor adventures, but since amelia is now secure in the fact that he’s Definitely Real since both rory and mels have also met him and because she lost a tooth last week from tripping on the stairs of the tardis, she doesn’t bite any therapists this time around. and besides, her therapist is a very funny lady. she reminds amelia of her doctor, with how her voice will flip and jump in volume and accent and tone on a whim, with how she’ll talk to amelia like they’re conspiring together. she keeps the pictures amelia draws of the doctor and their adventures for her, even hangs one or two on the walls. she listens very intently to every detail, which no adults in amelia’s life do save the doctor himself and river song, whenever she’s around. and best of all, whenever she tells amelia’s aunt that amelia is doing just fine, don’t you worry, she’ll grow out of this, she winks at amelia so that amelia will know her therapist is only playing along to wave away her aunt’s suspicion.

it is a little odd, though, that she insists on only being called Missy. but amelia is quite used to odd by now.

Oh no, man. I decided to watch the Damien episode of Perfect Person coz I only found out about it from the Angela appearance.

There's a part (around 2:45) where he says he booked the Starfield VA gig right when he first started at Smosh so with it coming out recently, it kinda bookended "this part of his internet life".

Ok ok joking aside I don't really think that's exactly what he meant by the things he said. I think he was mainly talking about doing more voice over work and "focus" on it more, not that he's going to fully leave Smosh.

He also says that he spent 5-6 yrs recording for that game, so that's why I think him saying "bookended this whole part of my internet life" is ONLY referring to him voicing over that game.

I'm also pretty sure "this whole" is (although it does sound like it could mean what you thought) almost definitely his southerner coming out, and what he meant was "the game coming out has bookended 5-6yrs worth of work for the voice over I did" not that he's quitting anything (I'm becoming the truth speaker of Damien Haas)

Or maybe not. #Idk I used to have a HUGE sskk-is-unrequited-love phase around June– #and in a way I still think as far as the manga events go Atsushi didn't feel anything but loathing for Akutagawa up to at least chapter 87 #(While Akutagawa stopped hating Atsushi on the Moby Dick fight. C'mon guys. I've seen some......... #Questionable takes over who fell first in sskk recently. Do you really believe that Atsushi said to Akutagawa's face the words #“I think Dazai-san has recognized of you a long time ago” and Akutagawa didn't fall for him right there right now.) #But like... Okay I don't want to make this too big because there's so much to unwrap here and it wouldn't fit in the tags but #For how I see it. it's totally believable to read the manga thinking Akutagawa is in love with Atsushi. like seriously it's just there. #“As long as I can't deny your very being I'll never be able to move forward” “You know the reason yourself don't you” #“Is his life that precious to you” “From the beginning the hole was only for his ally to flee through” #I'm not making this stuff up I'm literally just reading the text #While Atsushi is just there being objectively the WORSE he's ever been with everyone @Akutagawa which is undeniably hilarious on one hand– #and tragically sad on the other. He really DOES NOT care about Akutagawa? He barely ever showed compassion towards him #Which tbh!! It's a lot and it... Doesn't particularly bother me‚ because even if negatively it does show Akutagawa is someone who's– #special for Atsushi #he's like no one else for him #and that's so juicy!!! #It's delicious to explore this hidden aspect of Atsushi's character through the effect Akutagawa has on him #And even though I believe Atsushi didn't love Akutagawa for the most time... There's still plenty of room for things to change. #We still have to see how he'll react to meeting him again. It's possible that Akutagawa's last deed might have changed the judgement– #Atsushi has on him‚ and I can't wait to find out! If anything‚ Akutagawa appeared in Atsushi's mind which is... Something
