HALT YOUR HYPE FOR VAULT 33...
Until next April anyway!
In case you missed it, yesterday's fresh announcement on Amazon Prime's Fallout TV show confirmed that it will be coming to the streaming platform on 12th April 2024! I'll be the first to admit that I fell for the 4th December launch until I realised it was the American (wrong) way of display! Ha.
It's been on our radars for what feels like forever (2020 if our memories serve) and so another 6 months or so will come and go! Even closer now that it's NOT December! Silver linings, right.
Tumblr media
If you're unfamiliar, the series will take place in post-apocalyptic Los Angeles where inhabitants are forced to live underground in bunkers to protect themselves from the radiation, mutated crazies and bandits that await in the *once* real world...
After the success of The Last of Us via HBO, video-game-to-TV adaptations are only increasing in popularity and we are absolutely HERE for it.
With the namesake of one of the most iconic gaming franchises of all time and a pretty cool cast to boot (Shout-out Kyle MacLachlan of Twin Peaks fame), all signs point to another big hit in the making!
If you need something to watch in the meantime, may this social media guy suggest you give some love to 'Silo' on Apple TV! Thank me later.
We look forward to seeing a trailer for Amazon Prime's Fallout ASAP!
"It's the end of the world, all over again."

Thinking about giving cyberpunk 2077 a go now it's available for a little over £10 on thegamecollection since it had some kind of update that made it not absolute trash or something?
Not that I think I'll have time to play it. I've only just finished my first playthrough of fate samurai remnant and have at least one more to go for the second ending. Then about a month from now there's the guaranteed to be mega beefy like a dragon infinite wealth. A month after that there's ff7 rebirth so I've got a lot of game to play and enjoy for first quarter of 2024 before we even get into the year itself xD

Very rude of TheGameCollection to advertise a sale when they still haven't delivered a game that released on Thursday

With Alan Wake 2 not getting a physical release to "save money", and a potential lack of physical release for Starfield (we're not sure at this point in time after a deleted support tweet said it wouldnt have one)
I am literally on my hands and knees begging people to care about physical game releases
Physical game releases save you money!! Digital store fronts do not reduce the price of games over time. They never have. They never will. Hate the $70 price point for new generation games? If gaming goes full digital, nothing will ever get cheaper outside of store sales.
Physical game prices drop because they take up actual physical space. And stores that sell them reduce the price to get rid of inventory, to make room for new inventory.
Physical space is not a barrier to digital store fronts, so they do not need to reduce prices. EVER.
Dont believe me? Heres the current price for NBA 2k23 on PS4 on the UK Playstation Store (Ignoring the game is currently free on Playstation Plus as of typing this):
Tumblr media
And heres how much it costs to buy NBA 2k22 AND NBA 2k21 on the UK Playstation store:
Tumblr media
Theyre the same price. Despite the fact that 22 and 21 are "old" sports titles that are no longer getting updates (because 23 was released)
Right now, a physical copy of NBA 2k23 costs less than £20:
Tumblr media
(I cant find physical listings for Brand New copies of the older games. But trust me... its not £59.99)
And sure, this is a game you probably dont care about. But this is also a game where a new version gets released every year, where the physical price crashes every year. And yet the digital store front is still charging Full Price for a version 2 years out of date.
Its not just crappy sports games that fall into this Bad Digital Pricing. Heres a game that came out 6 months ago:
Tumblr media
Youre paying almost half to buy a physical version.
How about something critically well received?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And one not on sale:
Tumblr media
The list goes on and on and on. And this is me comparing to Game.co.uk. .... Generally considered one of the most expensive places to buy physical video games. If i were to go onto Amazon, TheGameCollection, Hit.co.uk.... i'd probably find all of those games even cheaper.
This isn't even getting into the fact that when you buy a digital game, only you can play it. You cannot give it to a friend. You cannot sell it to a company to get a bit of cash for the next big game. You're stuck with it. Forever.
But what about sales? Steam is 100% digital, and they have Good Sales, right?? Wrong. If you were following Steam sales over a decade ago, you'd see they were a totally different beast to what they are now. Steam Sales a decade ago used to be a 75% discount on AAA games 2-3 years old. Youre lucky to get 50% on something 5+ years old these days. Most things are really only 25-50% discounts. Once Steam had gained a virtual monopoly over the PC game market, they dramatically scaled back the savings on their sales. Sales on the Epic Games Store tend to be more dramatic than Steam sales these days.... because they're doing the same thing Steam did. Offer ridiculous discounts in order to gain market share. Once they have the market share, they will stop offering such good discounts.
Refund rights with digital storefronts are also pretty poor. Here in the UK, if you buy something online... you have 14 days to send it back to where you brought it from if you dont like it. Brought that shiny new game but realised after 5 hours of play during the weekend that you didn't like it? You can just send it back and get a refund. It might be store credit instead of cash, but at least you can do it. Physical stores vary, but you usually get 48 hours to return something. Again, might be to store credit - but you still get your money back in some form. .... With a digital storefront, you only get 2 hours to play the game and decide if you want to keep it. Once you have played more than 2 hours, youre no longer eligible to refund the game.
.... 2 hours isnt a lot of time when you think about it. The FF16 demo is about 2 hours long, and most of it is watching cutscenes with very little gameplay! :D
And none of this is talking about how peoples literal jobs and livelihoods depend on the physical stores they work in. If physical games no longer exist, people will lose their jobs. Or how physical copies preserve games for the future, as digital store fronts on older consoles get sunsetted. And you cant expect a 20+ year old console to occasionally receive security patches so your card data is safe on their digital store fronts. You can always stick a physical version of a game into a console, but there wont always be a storefront to download it from. ...... Or the game could just be pulled. For good. Usually, this is due to licensed music expiring. Or it could be like PT.... where it was pulled, and literally removed from your library so it could never be downloaded again. If you own the physical copy, none of that matters. You can play the game for as long as the copy works.
A digital-only future for AAA gaming is something we need to be actively condemning
Dont buy digital-only consoles. Don't buy a digital game when a physical copy exists. Buy from your local video game store instead of Amazon.

UK FRIENDS, I FOUND A PLACE WHERE YOU CAN SAVE OVER £10 ON THE NEW POKEMON GAMES
I just switched my preorder over to these guys at the last second and HOLY SHIT that's a lifesaver! I was down to the wire and wouldnt be able to afford my new glasses if i went with the Game.co.uk or Amazon prices!
TheGameCollection is selling the same bundle with the pokeball plus for £79 instead of £89! And you can whittle it down even more to £75 by using the discount code GAMERSWAG (all caps) at checkout!
This version doesnt contain the preorder bonus keychain, I think, but it already kinda sucked that Game.co.uk only had that for pikachu version. And i dont think a keychain is worth £10, its not exactly the best preorder bonus we've ever gotten. Plenty of different pikachu keychains you can buy separately, anyway!
So yeah if anyone else is struggling to afford this thing like i was, hopefully this can help a little! I'd suggest changing your preorders as fast as possible tho, cos we're entering the final stretch!

Zelda Skyward Sword Switch
Tumblr media
This Friday we've decided to make The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword our target for a UK price roundup.
Zelda Skyward Sword Switch
The original Skyward Sword was a mainline Zelda title that launched, unfortunately, on the Wii U. Nintendo’s beleaguered predecessor to the Switch struggled to sell throughout its lifetime.
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword game soars onto Nintendo Switch! Take to the skies, draw your sword, and experience the earliest story in the Legend of Zelda series. Join Link in his high-flying.
Eurogamer's Zelda: Skyward Sword review did award 10/10 after all.
Tumblr media
Where's the cheapest place to pick it up? TheHut and Zavvi online, where Skyward Sword costs £31.95.
Play.com sells Skyward Sword for £34.90 with a bonus soundtrack CD that has orchestral arrangements of Zelda music. These arrangements were performed at the memorable Zelda 25th Anniversary concert in London recently.
Take advantage of the newly-added button only control scheme—perfect for playing in handheld mode or on the Nintendo Switch Lite system. Soar between floating islands and descend to the treacherous surface world in this updated HD version of the Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword game. Take to the skies and discover the origins of Hyrule In The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD, reborn on #NintendoSwitch! Draw your sword in this high-flying. Skyward Sword is also still from a relatively newer generation of consoles. That's why they're even retaining the motion controls for the Switch version. Meanwhile, A Link to the Past has only ever seen one remaster in its lifetime, and it was only available in a pair with Four Swords for the Game Boy Advance.
That same CD is bundled with a gold Wiimote in the Limited Edition of Zelda: Skyward Sword. The cheapest place to buy that is Choices UK, for £46.99.
HMV isn't offering any trade-in deals on Skyward Sword. Game isn't, either.
This list will be updated tomorrow. Do please let us know if we've missed any deals.

XBOX EXCLUSIVES TO PLAYSTATION?
Hold your horses, there's no official confirmation! But a recent announcement from Phil Spencer has eluded to change on the horizon...
This is not the first time we've heard these rumblings, with exclusives like Sea of Thieves and Hi-Fi Rush pushed through the rumour mill and appearing as multi-platform titles on the other side! Sony's dominance with the PS5 is no secret and it seems that this could be the logical step forward for Microsoft!
Tumblr media
So at the very least, next week will deliver next steps for Xbox, but as a PlayStation gamer I'm excited at the prospect of potentially blasting off to explore the unknown in the likes of Starfield, and especially, donning the hat and whip as Indiana Jones when The Great Circle launches this year!
All we can do is sit tight, tune in and wait for the truth to come out!
2024 might just open the door...

Nintendo Switch consoles for £240 and more in TheGameCollection's sale
Nintendo Switch consoles for £240 and more in TheGameCollection's sale
Up-and-coming online retailer of video games and pop culture stuff, TheGameCollection, has made a habit of hosting a monthly range of discounts dubbed as Pay Day Price Drops. Despite the fact it’s not technically pay day for everyone, it’s certainly not a bunch of discounts to scoff at.
Perhaps the biggest price drop to…

Is Swapping Video Games With Other Gamers a Better Way to Play New Video Games?
Every gamer goes through the process of buying a new video game - playing it to boredom or completion and then moving onto the next game. For some, the retail value of £40 (~$60) for most new video games makes moving onto the next game a tricky task, making gaming an expensive hobby! This article will discuss several methods of buying/getting new video games available to gamers and consider whether video game swapping sites represent the best possible value to a gamer when moving onto a new video game.
Trading in Video Games
Trading your video game in at a local store is one method - this will often mean losing over half the value of the game you paid in the first place. And the local store is probably going to sell your video game at a markedly greater price. So the trade in value they offer you isn't going to get you very much at the store so you'll still have to contribute some extra cash to get a new game. However, this process is convenient and you have your next game in hand as soon as you're in the store!
Advantages:
1. Convenient
2. Instant
Disadvantages:
1. Low trade in value
2. Hefty mark up by retailer means you pay more cash for the next game
Video Game Rental
Joining a games rental service, such as Boomerang or Lovefilm, is another option. You typically pay a flat monthly subscription fee and receive a limited number of games which you can keep for as long as you wish. The quality of such services varies greatly and the major drawbacks here are that you must keep a list of games you desire - resulting in you receiving which ever game the rental company has in stock when they receive returned games. So the danger here is that you may not actually get the game at the top of your list. Other drawbacks include waiting a long time for that one game you want - or receiving games that are scratched to the point where your console won't play them! Most importantly, you hand out all that cash each month and you don't actually own anything in the end - it's arguable that there's better value in buying a game, keeping it until you've finished with it and then trading it once you're done.
Furthermore, the value in this service varies from game to game. Some games can be completed within a few days of playing, and so the effective cost of playing this game is a fraction of the monthly subscription fee. And some games will be played for many years, making playing these games via rental very expensive! So in this sense, rental has the advantage of letting you try out a large number of games for a monthly subscription fee. If you think the game has long term value, then you could simply buy the game safe in the knowledge that you'll be playing this game for a long time to come! But then PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 gamers can try out new games by downloading them, muting this point in their case.
Another game rental option is often available from a local video store. The rental cost is typically 5% to 10% of the cost of the video game for up to 7 days worth of play. Using a local video store to rent games is definitely convenient and the value of the service to you depends on whether you actually finish the game or decide it's not your thing (i.e. you've gotten the most out of them) before the game is due back.
Advantages:
1. Large collection to choose from
2. Easy to get new video games as you complete old ones
3. You get to try a large number of games for a nominal subscription fee.
Disadvantages:
1. May not get the game you want
2. Could be waiting a long time for games depending on rental companies stock levels
3. You don't actually own anything in the end
Selling your video games
Another route is simply selling you video game. One of the most convenient ways to sell is by auctioning your game on eBay or TheGameCollective. If the game is a recent and popular one, you'll probably get a good price - potentially much more than a local store would pay, and all you had to do was wait a few more days for the auction/sale to complete and then send your game through the post. A little less convenient than a local store but for many the extra value in the video game is worth it.
The draw back here is that eBay will take a cut of the final sale price currently 8.25% of the final fee and if you accept payment via PayPal, you'll have to pay an additional fee (~4%), representing a loss of up to 12% of the final price (unless you're cunning and build this into the P&P price - but that's a bugbear for many!).
Advantages:
1. Can receive a good price for your game
2. Quite convenient
Disadvantages:
1. Must wait several days for sale to be agreed
2. Commission on final sale price
Video Game Swap
Swapping video games via an online game swapping network is another method. These sites include TheGameCollective, gamejam or hitflip and for a small/no fee these sites will allow gamers to agree swaps and then exchange home addresses and mail their games to each other. This service provides gamers with the opportunity to play new video games at about the cost of posting a game. So in this sense, the game swapping option offers great potential for the value conscious gamer.
Game swapping isn't currently widely adopted and so unless a game swap site experiences heavy traffic a gamer may have to wait a little longer to get the video game swap they want. This could take a short while depending on a game's popularity and so in this regard game swapping is not as convenient as, say, trading. But as game swapping becomes more popular, the process of moving onto new video games is set to become a much better value experience.
Advantages:
1. Can be obtained at the cost of mailing a game
2. Easy to get new video games as you complete old ones
Disadvantages:
1. May have to wait a long time to find another gamer willing to swap
