- Ended up in you leaving bc he’s so frustrating but alas fate has other plans

- You show up to the U-20 match bc DUH

- Anri doesn’t have any money to hire a manager also so you’re taking over that role

- Anyway rin comes to respect you for dragging him by his eyelashes about his trauma

- “So are we gunna start with hating yourself and thinking you’re not good enough to prove a point to your shitty brother OR are we working on your material conditions that stem from that today?”

- Comes in often enough now that he doesn’t schedule sessions he just shows up to spill the tea

- After saving rin from going off the deep end; bc baby I’m so sorry that an ugly ass bitch would say something like that to you

- Their two week vacation starts

- Rin is surprised to see you in not work clothes chilling like a regular person

- Ends up hanging out with you a lot bc you’re the only one who he can speak freely to

- Unfortunately his brother is also back in the country

- Running into Sae while hanging out with his brother was NOT on your vacation bingo card but here we are

- “You’re here?”

- “I could really say the same to you. You haven’t gotten citizenship to stay your ass over there yet?”

- Flashback✨ y’all had a casual thing back in the day because when he’s not closed off he can be pretty fun to be around

- Then he let a white man get in his feelings and refused to talk about them and lashed out on you

- So he just kinda got these feelings and nothing to do with them

- Didn’t think he’d ever see you again to be honest so now stuff that he buried ages ago is in his face

- Can’t tell you sorry. Doesn’t know how.

- Sees you smiling and doting on rin how you used to him and can’t help but get jealous

- Makes sure to approach you when rin isn’t around

- You go to the kitchen to get water boom he’s there too now

- “Jesus Christ do you ever announce yourself?”

- “You’re in MY house”

- “Is it your house if you only show up one a year?”

- Can’t help but start arguments when he just wants to talk regularly

- Rin already picking up what his brother is trying to lay down and he’s not having it

- He’s already developed a crush on you like you CANT leave

- Gets nervous bc if your past with sae that he might snatch you up too

- Not letting his brother take something else away from him

- So all of a sudden he’s a lot more touchy with you

- Trust me inside he’s screaming and throwing up bc he’s never done this before but he will try

- You can feel his stiff ass hand around your waist😭

- Poor baby

- The silent itoshi beef isn’t missed by you but you don’t know that they’re competing off the pitch too

- “You sure you don’t want to go do something? Like we watched horror movies in your room all day yesterday, I had errands to run-“

- “Well I wanted to start the final destination franchise so you gotta watch all 5 of them there’s a new one coming out”

- “Yeah in 2025! That’s like 3 years away!”

- “Shhhh, the movie starting🙄”

- Hoards you all to himself in his room because you’re surrounded by HIM and less chances for Sae to sneak up on you in public and steal you away or join your date outing together

- Thinks you look cute wrapped in his blankets and tries not to blush when you cling to him

- “I swear to god-“

- “My bad forgot there’s a jumpscare here I’ll warn you about the next one promise.”

- He won’t

- Sae rolling his eyes to the back of his head bc you just always in the house now and Rin hanging off you like a sad puppy

- Sae is more strategic where rin is impulsive

- So he’s the type to do shit from the past that he knew would make your heart flutter and run will be blunt and impulsive with his actions

- Sae will touch your lower back as he comes up behind you to grab a class from the cub board and hand it to you

- Sae will bring you home your favorite snack when he knows rin wont see him give it to you

- Rin will grab your hand in public and not let go to make sure you don’t get lost on a crowd

- Rin will clumsily press his lips to your forehead when you are most distracted

- Both are very annoying

- And after a good WEEK of getting mixed signals from both of them you’re ready to stay your ass at home for the rest of the vacation before it’s back to work

- Monday morning Rin invites you on a morning run

- Which you obviously say fuck NO to bc the sun ain’t even up

- But he shows up to your front door at the asscrack of dawn telling you to get dressed you have no say in the matter unfortunately

- The jog isn’t so bad and he has the decency to buy you breakfast afterwards so that’s nice

- Decent conversation surprisingly

- When he drops you off back at your home he kisses you before literally sprinting off

- He was working up the nerve to do that all morning

- Can’t even say thanks or whatever yet before he presses his body close to you and lifts your head to slot his lips against yours

- Puts all his feelings into that kiss before managing to get out “bye” before his throat completely closes up

- And then sprints off before you can even blink

- Clown

- Giggling and kicking his feet when he gets home

- Sae is packing for his trip back to Spain at the end of the week

- When he catches you leaving his house after another Rin spontaneous all day movie marathon

- Offers to drive you home because it’s dark and he remembers the address

- Didn’t really offer so much as grab his Keys complaining about how you know better than to be outside this late

- Sir 🫤🫤

- The ride is kinda tense until he forces a conversation

- Unsurprisingly e vividly remembers all the right buttons to press to see that smile he’s been dying to see

- Don’t even notice he took the long way back to your home

- Puts his new number in your phone and tells you to stop being stubborn and answer when he texts you

- He’s a gentleman before all else so he walks you right to your front door

- Man barely hears a word you said before pulling you closer by your neck pressing his lips to yours

- Remembers you like the back of his hand the way his lips fit so familiar with yours

- Ends up with your arms around his neck and your back pressed into the front door

- Clearly wanting to come inside he pulls away because he’s fond of the chase🙄😒

- Wishes you a good night before kissing your forehead and going back to his car

- both of them have laid their cards out on the table

- Just up to you to make a choice I’m afraid

I have some specific gripes about the Shanks flashback. There’s gonna be some negativity here.

This might seem a bit nitpicky to some people, but this is what I’m about. I am a huge manga nerd and notoriously picky about shows. If I didn’t care so much about the characters I wouldn’t be like this.

I think Peter did a great job portraying Shanks. I especially liked his scenes with Luffy. But honestly I can’t get over some of the way it was written.

First thing, I did not like Beckman saying to Shanks to go easy on Luffy. In the manga he tries to explain Shanks’ behaviour to Luffy, defending him because as the first mate he implicitly understands why he acts the way he does. I don’t get first mate vibes from him. I’d think Lucky was the first mate because he had a much bigger presence.

I needed Shanks to be more cluelessly wimpy during the Higuma scene. Shanks was standing his ground while Higuma was just being annoying, but it was supposed to be humiliating and I just didn’t get that feeling.

The line that bothered me the most was ´a man needs to be strong but he also needs to be good’. Shanks just doling out wisdom about goodness like that? Like he is a good guy, but he wouldn’t act like he’s some moral authority because he is a pirate and he knows he’s not all that good. He’s supposed to talk about them not being saints but he’s talking about goodness here? I understand changes, but the original had him not saying that line at all, they could have cut it out. It felt like they were trying too hard to preach a moral lesson and I’m not a fan of that.

Also Shanks’ crew should not have pulled the gun first. Why did they cut out the important line about guns and putting your life on the line? Shanks talks about goodness but they’re the ones who aim to kill first? It’s just not hitting with me.

Random thoughts on other parts:

“Shanks is gonna make you wish you were never born”

“Believe me I wish that already” damn what is this Higuma backstory?

They put 110% into the visuals and action sequences. A whole episode’s budget was put into animating this sea monster. Man I can see every single wrinkle on this thing?

Also Shanks being completely dry when he gets to the boat 😭 did this dude jump there?

ok. Okok. i think i’ve got my jumbled up thoughts altogether so! here they are under the cut (and it won’t be spoiler free so heads up!)

N’s route: man… i think when i played i was on a “i havent seen these characters in years” goggles high, ie graduation goggles if you will, but now that im thinking on it, it wasn’t super erm. cohesive. like when you can choose to say ily early on but then if you dont and N says it later, theres no option to reciprocate? odd. also there is no conflict resolution for the argument, it’s just kinda brushed aside.

what i did like was that if you play with an equally romantic partner as n, they do have a bunch of nice little moments. i’ve seen ppl say they come off clingy but like. i didnt see it that way. to me it comes across as more just that they’re SO passionate and so focused about protecting everyone (as shown in the backstory) but i can see why it’s off putting to others

F route: very cute little moments w the detective, absolute dream of a partner if you ask me. them talking about their mom? ruined me a bit why lie. also the “you’re the most delicious thing i’ve tasted” oof. my pulse was weak lads

i didnt like that there wasnt an ily choice for them?? doesnt make sense to me??? out of all the routes i feel like their would have been the most natural place to have an ily, but i digress. anyway. F love and supremacy always

A route: mixed feelings for sure.. i did feel like some of it was a bit ooc or like, i was just getting mixed signals. they’d say one thing and then contradict it a paragraph later and i was like. huh. ok.

overall tho… i will be so real with you guys it was kind of delicious. dare i say it was maybe my favorite. ik some ppl thought it moved too fast and i can see that! but for me it’s really not /that/ fast. think about if you read a book series that’s 2 or 3 books and it’s a slowburn. usually the couple will admit their feelings by the end of the second book or smth. and it’s not like A actually expressed their feelings and then jumped into a relationship yk?? personally i found the “one kiss and i cant have you anymore, this is done, i can’t let myself feel this” absolutely scrumptious. the slowburn is still in action even tho they kissed to me! but ig why some ppl didnt love it. bonus; them crying outside the detectives door didn’t feel ooc to me either. they bottked up feelings for 900 years and then watched the person they love almost die like. three times. and then consequently shoved them away again so there’s no way they’d be able to keep all of THAT inside. walls r bound to break eventually. anyway i did think this route was inconsistent at times but generally. i had a blast w all that pain and suffering

M’s route: i still dont really know how i feel about this one tbh. i did like a lot of it: the bakery scene, the lil not date, the scene in the shower especially. to me that felt very natural, just like. intimate and personal without being too fast or whatever. big fan. might think about that for the rest of my life. also if you’re on verda’s route with m the dinner party scene was equal parts awkward and funny so that was fun. AND as meh and underwhelming as the auction was, them saying they were willing to give more for the detective than they ever thought… mwah. there were moments where M felt ooc but i think i liked half of it. probably 😭

overall like i said before.. plot wise it isnt very cohesive and it’s not very exciting, it felt more romance focused than plot focused which ig makes sense but? idk. i like the thrill

daemon au beginning

okay so the basics: a daemon au, almost entirely centered around nicholas & milligan with a side of the twins backstory, but like, might do snippets of other characters as well because ouch.

the problem with daemon aus for me, mainly, is i hate choosing what their daemon would be because i always feel like there’s no right answer, nothing clicks, etc. it sucks. which is partly why i never finished this. because i really like the idea of a daemon au i just don’t want to think about what the daemons actually look like 😭

anyway lets get started. first of all i would like you to know the summary for my ao3 draft was

The man shows up at Nicholas's doorstep, hollow, devastated, and daemonless.

so you get an idea of where this is going don’t you >:)

the idea here was for whatever reason, whatever brainsweeping thing curtain does to the helpers—and by extension, milligan—does something to their daemons. whether they’re suspended (unable to like. manifest??? like they seem to be gone but they’re just suppressed—like their emotions and memories, they’ve been buried) or if you wanted to go an alternate route, they could be literally imprisoned (but meh)

so milligan doesn’t. have a great time. i mean, daemons are supposed to be your soul, so if you don’t have one… people assume things. assume you’re heartless, soulless, emotionless, less.

(and maybe—especially since unlike other helpers, he has support and someone helping him—he swears he catches flashes of her, like a ghost struggling to get through, or he almost remembers her but can never quite reach, hears the echo of a voice no one else does—she remembers, the soul never forgets, but she can never quite reach him to tell him—)

he gets phantom pains, sometimes, like there’s something missing. two puzzle pieces, perhaps.

(i never decided what daemon she was—i was thinking maybe hawk or german shepard, but i never made a final choice. i had hesitantly started calling her “kyra”, though.)

anyway, he already had enough trouble as a big scary dude with nowhere to go and a crazy story no one believed, but now people see him as a bad omen or even something monstrous, so like. milligan, again, has a Bad Time.

but then he meets nicholas, and nicholas takes him in without hesitation, and when milligan makes it through his story and then falteringly wonders aloud if, maybe, whatever happened took his daemon… nicholas falls asleep.

and then like, okay, let’s move on for a second, jump around. nicholas and his daemon—violet. (curtain’s is vermillion, by the way. yes i am very proud of this. both the matching--v and color names, and vermillion’s reputation for being thought of as green but actually being red so like deception ahaha, and also the extraordinary education refreence.) now i’m playing fast and loose with lore here because i haven’t read the golden compass in ages and i’m not so sure on the sort of agreed worldbuilding/tropes in fusion aus, but.

violet’s been unsettled for a long time now. nicholas knows it isn’t the same, when he meets the man without a daemon, but he knows what it’s like when people look at your daemon and judge you, look into your soul and find it wanting, and around strangers, violet remains in the same form. a cat, perhaps, fluffy and easy to sit in his lap but with claws.

(now what, exactly, being unsettled means when you’re that old, i’ve seen explained differently in some aus, so again, playing fast and loose—is it a fundamental crisis of identity, or a trauma? perhaps when they were young, violet and vermillion settled together, nearly identical, and then when they separated, when he was alone, violet shifted and never stayed again? and he’s left, heart in his throat and soul in his hands, wondering if vermillion has shifted, too, if his brother feels fractured, if part of them has broken and they’re no longer truly twins—)

(is curtain’s daemon unsettled, too? no idea. honestly i have no idea where i’m going with that part of this. but things to consider. i also considered giving him a snake daemon even though that’d be stereotypical as fuck literally just because he would make really pretentious paradise lost references or something and i thought it would be funny. also the idea of mr benedict having a little noodle and curtain’s being actually mean and bitey is pretty funny. ANYWAY.)

i have a lot of unwritten thoughts about a curtain v benedict confrontation with daemons involved, vermillion v violet, etc, that i’m just not quite certain how to put to words, and like. the idea of what they might be like?

like is violet more like curtain—mr benedict’s self preservation, trying to get him to take care of himself or be selfish for once? and vice versa, vermillion trying to get curtain to be kinder? does he purposefully serperate himself from her? i don’t think so and it’s not what i went with but it’s an interesting thought isn’t it dkfgjdfg

oh also worse but just a fun thought does his daemon intimidate the kid’s daemons? sq’s? hahaha ouch

anyway here’s where most of my snippets come in which is nicholas/milligan my beloved. although it’s not really focused on romance so much as a strong bond, so as of now it could easily be read as a QPR or strong friendship and that’s valid.

so i just have a lot of thoughts on nicholas (and by extension violet) being touch-starved as hell, the intimacy of touching someone else’s daemon and the amount of trust that takes, discussion of milligan’s lack of daemon and the potential implications, and that’s what all the snippets are about.

especially the touching someone’s daemon thing because that concept absolutely obliterates me. like. when milligan realizes violet is iniating that touch and practically begging for it and it occurs to him nicholas might be just as touch starved and like the implications of his daemon,,, reaching out for that,,, both in trust (that’s his SOUL!!! in milligan’s hands!!!) and in how much he’s starved for affection,,,, oof

bonus points for violet in some form that purrs bc oh,,,, oh….

and like, unsettled, violet shifts a lot—it’s more comfortable to keep shifting, even if there are some forms she comes back to (cat is convenient and comfy, bird can be useful, when the house is invaded part of her wants to turn into a little ladybug and hide and part of her wants to turn into a horse or a hippo and charge but she doesn’t want them to touch her—)

and like. lots of thoughts about the others too but if i start thinking too hard about broader implications i lose any motivation as it becomes way too intimidating but for the record while all my snippets focus on nicholas & milligan absolutely violet is just cuddling with number two and rhonda’s daemons so fast (once they’re comfortable with it, anyway) and she’ll let them pet her or touch her lightly because they trust them, and if number two—so cautious and strict—lets her daemon brush against nicholas, well. that’s their business. and rhonda, too, though she’s a little more open and casual about it, because, you know, they’re a family, and i’m crying.

also oh my god dad mr b and his daemon interaction with the kids’,,, oh,,,, ANYWAY again that’s not what i have written but it’s also worth considering

(not to mention how curtain might misuse and abuse things but it’s fine—how messengers might find odd side effects…)

i wonder if violet rarely speaks to people that aren’t mr benedict before milligan but had gotten in the habit of just speaking whenever because they were alone so long… see i also have lots of little angsty headcanons i haven’t written anything for yet ,

and like, thoughts on settling—when misunderstandings are healed and he feels safe and whole and maybe this is years and years post canon, finally realizing that everything wasn’t his fault, and he feels healed and okay and like he isn’t at war with himself and guilty all the time, and she settles. she settles, and it’s kind of a shock for everyone and she’s certainly getting used to not being able to just shift into anything, but they’re both more comfortable in their own skin…

(don’t ask me what she settles into and don’t offer me options please i live in anxiety soup)

also again just. so many thoughts on curtain/vermillion pov but like. that’s for another time i think. maybe i’ll write more of these snippet posts I don’t know.

as it is, though, know that they’re not all necessarily like, some of them might contradict each other because they’re all possibilities, even if they generally align with my idea of this AU. a bunch of jumbled ideas. yeah. anyway

starting off real strong with a peek into felix’s backstory + his past with the each of boys. each paragraph dedicated to a stray kid made me feel so so much more for otde felix (which was already astronomically high). and the HYUNLIX. not to jump too forward but reading this and seeing the parallel and how hyunjin interacts w mc is so interesting and well written (not to mention felix’s view on being human and how it shapes who he is, AMAZINGLY written 👏 👏 )

AND THE TENSION? i could feel my own heart racing the way you wrote their escape from Hira’s, Yeonjun’s involvement, the scene with mc and the guards, EVERYTHINGGG god and i can’t wait for you to get into the connection between Hira and MCs mom 😭😭

— also felix constantly keeping mc by his side, barely ever letting go. yeah .

honestly this whole beginning part ended up being one of if not my favorite parts of the chapter because lixs past and how he came to build relationships with each of the boys is such an important part of the story for me. so it makes me thrilled to hear that you enjoyed it.🥹 makes all that time and effort worth it, you know??💕

id be lying if i said i wasn't feeling a certain type of way about minho when i wrote this chapter lol.🫠 the slow build up between mc and each of the boys really has been one of the most rewarding parts of writing this story so far. in tv shows/movies i always find myself drawn to strong platonic relationships/friendships (even more than romantic connections a lot of the time) so i think that’s why it means so much to me that you say you’re most excited for her bond to grow with all 8.💕

THE MIDNIGHT DIP. 💀💀LMAO I CACKLED. this is the only way i will be referring to this scene from now on. if there was a scene i struggled with more than the beginning then it was definitely this one. i spent the majority of this past week (or two) focusing on this part alone because (along with the fact that i wanted it to be a pivotal moment in their relationship) writing intimate smut scenes like this is such a hurdle for me, and ive certainly doubted my ability to convey the passion that i envision between lix/mc so its really reassuring to know that the time and effort i put into these moments makes a difference for you.🥹💕it makes me excited to keep pushing my boundaries so that i can continue to include scenes like this moving forward.<33
