i have some more bc now i’m curious about your mysterious least favorite and also i’m enjoying your analyses :)

the gang turns black, charlie has cancer (for the mac/carmen plot line), a lot of charlie gets crippled, the gang gives back, sweet dee’s dating a r person (love the rock band storyline tho), thundergun express

it’s hard for me to say i dislike episodes entirely bc there are always parts i like but yeah as a whole i would say these are in my bottom 20

The Gang Turns Black: disagree. I was shocked to learn this one was so hated honestly. I love musical episodes, and I think all their singing is perfectly fine (I don’t know why people say they sound bad??) and the songs are mostly funny and catchy. And I know people think the Quantum Leap thing is stupid but I like it. I like the idea that the gang are so racist it would take a literal magical scenario for them to learn how to be better. I like that the final message of the episode is the reality of systemic racism and police brutality, but I get that’s heavy for a sunny episode and some people find it tactless and I understand completely if anyone feels that way.

Charlie Has Cancer: agree. Honestly I’ve seen this episode so few times specifically because of that plot line. But because I’ve seen it so few times I barely remember it and so don’t have a big rant prepared. But my biggest take away is—it’s one thing to show the characters being transphobic, because they’re horrible people that’s just what the show is, but when the camera is transphobic that’s just the writers thinking the idea of a trans woman having a penis is funny and expecting the audience to find it funny too. Awful. Honestly maybe this one is my least favorite I’ve just seen it so few times and so long ago it’s hard to even remember for me. I don’t even remember the Charlie plot at all or what Dee was doing if anything.

Charlie Gets Crippled: I think agree depending on what you mean by “a lot of”. The stuff about being in a wheelchair getting them free strippers is stupid and based on the false idea that life is somehow easier for disabled people because of pity (wrong and bad). And pretending to be disabled to get attention does make sense for the characters to think of and again it’d be one thing for the characters to be proven wrong but the episode plays it like they’re right and being disabled does get you adoration which uh. If you’ve ever actually been in public with an assistance device you know how wrong that is. But I like the Dennis and Dee stuff and of course our dear friend Mr Tibbs (RIP). I love the opening where Dennis runs Charlie over in his haste to flee from his shitty dad. I love that Frank is introduced as being “manically depressed” for most of his life—it’s a good way to set up the way he acts throughout the rest of the show. But yeah a lot of bad with the good. I don’t watch it often.

The Gang Gives Back: disagree! I love this episode! The gang are so horrible I think there’s a lot of humor in pairing them up with kids (also why I love Frank Reynolds’ Little Beauties). I love Mac and Dee competing to be head coach and I love the horrible dangerous things they tell the kids to do. I love that Frank “trying to bond” with Dennis turns out to be a ruse for Frank’s gambling, something Dennis doesn’t at all seem surprised by, which says so much about Dennis and Dee’s childhood without even directly mentioning it. I even think Charlie using AA to flirt with The Waitress while she’s only interested in Dennis is funny. And it’s hilarious that Frank chastises Dennis for sleeping with The Waitress when he knew Charlie likes her when Frank did literally the exact same thing lol. Just a very funny one for me I think all the character dynamic are really good and the kids are funny.

Sweet Dee’s Dating a: Agree! You found my least favorite episode! Congratulations! I hate it so much even the band parts and Dennis’ slutty little outfit don’t save it for me, which trust me is saying a lot about how bad the rest of the episode is. It’s just. Ugh. Similar issue as the others where it’s one thing for the characters to be ableist, but the narrative itself is ableist too. And it’s not even funny like. Even the band parts aren’t funny beyond their outfits to me. Yeah the scene of Dennis helping Charlie when he’s upset is cute but even that doesn’t save it for me. It’s hard for me to even think about this episode without my blood pressure rising. It’s both boring and offensive! Worst combo. I’ve watched this one as few times as I’ve watch Charlie has Cancer but this one sticks in my mind more in a bad way which is why I say it’s worse for me but who knows maybe if I rewatched both I’d feel differently. But I don’t want to lol.

Thundergun Express: disagree. This one’s another really funny one to me. The whole “we’ll come back for youuuuu” running gag is great to me every time, I love Frank’s awful boat tour where he just rambles about his chaotic life, I love that they’re all so excited for the dong, I love Mac stealing a motorcycle, failing to drive it, and abandoning it in the middle of the street, I love the sewer (yeah, that’s shit in my hair) and I think Frank calling in a bomb threat because he’s so upset he didn’t make it is a fantastic ending. Dennis’ plot is pretty weak but that’s my only criticism, the rest makes me laugh and there’s a lot of great quotable lines from this one.

I saw your reply on the Dennis small dick post and you said we know Mac isn’t very big. How do we know this. In my head Mac is bigger than Dennis. Aren’t head canons funny.

In Thundergun Express Mac hangs dong on the trolley and Dee says it "looked like a button in a fur coat" (which is a Jackass reference I think playing into the fat Mac jokes, really) and Charlie says it "looked more like a ding than a dong". And alright he was probably soft lol but most people kinda use that as canon evidence that he doesn't have a very big dick.

I don't even follow that in my mind, really. It's just funny 'canon' evidence that what we have for Mac is that he's got a tiny dick and what we have for Dennis is that he has a 'huge dick' (Mac and Charlie Die glory hole shadow... lol) and everyone just ignores that.

I think we all kinda just go on 16 seasons of characterization and vibes, and end up with the same conclusion that Mac is bigger (at least thicker for sure) than Dennis but neither of them are packing.

Until they actually hang dong, no one can prove any headcanon wrong.

I think every tv show that takes place in Los Angeles needs a bottle episode where the characters are stuck in traffic the whole time. It’s a great device to get characters who have been arguing or keeping secrets or having other types of tension to get things out in the open, or for two characters who rarely have scenes together to suddenly be forced to talk to each other and create a new dynamic. And based on what I know of LA, people probably have revelatory conversations in gridlock traffic all the damn time

Surprisingly, Dennis! They're on the rarer side (and nonexistent if we are around any of the gang), but when he does it! AHHH!!!! They're things like, "you smell good" or "you're cute today," too AHHH BBBBFFGGHH!!!

Dennis will steal food from my plate if it's delicious food I've cooked for us. We will be eating and he will want more because he takes smaller plate portions, but that would require going and getting more. Instead, he just steals from my plate. Which I love because it's such a compliment to my cooking skills!

Who is more likely to let the other borrow their car? 

WELL, I don't have a car (even for sunny, my s/i doesn't have a car)! I would be more likely, though. Because Dennis's Range Rover is his everything. He LOVES that car!!

Who makes the list before they go grocery shopping?

Dennis is the list maker for grocery shopping. I still grab extra stuff when we get there, hehe! Sometimes I add things to the list when he's not paying attention, and of course he notices immediately! He feigns annoyance, but I see that little smirk mister!

I'm super independent when it comes to others trying to care for me. I don't want to have to rely on my loved ones. It causes me trouble when it comes to communicating and stuff like that. Dennis makes sure I take my meds. He's kind of mean about it, but I know he does it to show its okay for me to depend on him.

Who watches sports and has to teach the other the rules?

Dennis watches sports. Anytime we watch The Eagles games I am always confused. While I grew up playing sports, I didn't play football! Plus, I only really like the Super bowl for the good food and quality time with friends. I ask him about what's happening and what each thing means whenever the team "gets a play" or something!

Who pulls the other to their feet for a dance in the living room?

MEEE I do!! I'll play a song on my phone and tug him from the couch to dance around his apartment living room. Sometimes Mac is there, and he'll boogie down with us if I'm playing more House music or something!

Who has to keep reminding the other to hurry or they’ll be late?

Dennis has to tell me to hurry A LOT. While his getting ready for the day routine is long and has a million steps, he has the timing all figured out. I like to do things super last minute and then rush around like a dumb dumb.

Who is the one most likely to get a tattoo with the other’s name?

Oh my god, I am so corny and cheesy I would definitely do this. BUT it would be either a super drunken or extremely high endeavor. later on I would be REALLY embarrassed about it. Dennis would definitely tease me to no end about it, too!

Thoughts on the season ending with Dennis' revealing he's not-straight AND that he's in love with Mac but only we the audience know but Mac doesnt'.

okay i know it isn’t exactly what you asked but i’m gonna use this as an excuse to ramble a bit. first of all i just wanted to say that i really, really did not expect dennis’ sexuality to be explored in any way other than eventually being like “oh yeah me and mac are happening now it’s no big deal whatever” and like, yes i still think his sexuality is very much framed and expressed through mac, but it’s been hinted at a lot more than i thought it would this season. unfortunately i sort of relate to dennis more so than mac with my personal ongoing struggle with my own sexuality (embarrassing i know) and there was weirdly something about the scene in thundergun that struck a chord with me (i know they’re like hollering about dongs but his closeted face journey... oh boy i felt that). and i’m surprised by that- pleasantly so.

but of course, i still think his relationship with mac and his personal reveal go hand in hand. i’d concede that it could go either way if not for how strongly sunny’s social media is preaching macdennis right now... which seems silly, but really! and i know you can say they’re just pandering or messing with people or whatever but i really don’t think they would do that. of all the things sunny hasn’t learned to fully respect and understand, they have made serious progress with sexuality and understanding how not to disappoint their lgbt+ fanbase (plus, i didn’t ask for them to do this! it’s way over the top they’re harlots). and i just really don’t believe they would be acting like that if something big wasn’t going to happen with mac and dennis this season. i know some people are thinking next season but- forgive me if i’m out of the loop- i don’t think s15 has been confirmed in any sense yet and i really don’t think they’re going to leave mac and dennis’ relationship up in the air after all of this.

but back to your actual point, oof. ouch. i’m not saying it’s not entirely possible it could end that way, but i think something is certainly happening with mac and dennis- whatever that means in the context of sunny. i think it’s going to be made obvious enough. i think there’s a reason the season opened with gets romantic and a whole shitton of meta about the structure of their relationship and then continued to follow that exact structure. i know everyone is imagining things in different ways, and honestly i try not to “predict” anything because sunny is such a wild card that all i can do is just sit back and let it happen, but i really think something more than dennis privately revealing how he feels is going to happen with mac and dennis.

i was just editing the transcript to “thundergun express” because apparently that’s what my life has come to and i noticed for the first time that on the audio tape that dennis plays in his car, it’s clear that he has lots of locks on his door, then later, when mac barges in on dennis and his date, dennis tells mac to “leave the keys in here.”
