Sorry for the question, but what's a dabloon?
So- explanation for anyone who doesn't know about the current dabloon thing:
It's a trend that started only a couple of days ago on TikTok. The original meme, the "base template" I guess you could call it, is that people would post videos or photo slied where they say something along the lines of "Hello traveler, would you like some warm stew? But it will cost ya... four dabloons" and then they would post this specific image of a cat holding up a paw showing four paw-toes:
Tumblr media
For some historical context, dabloons (or rather doubloons) was a real form of currency that used to exist. I couldn't find too much info in my search that I spent a grand total of 5 minutes on, but they seem to originate from the Spanish Empire around the 1500-1800. In modern times they are mostly associated with pirates.
Anyway, back to TikTok! This trend escalated quickly. It started with the fact that people began joking about being in dabloon-debt after coming across so many of these posts, so people starting making posts where they were instead giving dabloons to others. So people started keeping track of their dabloon savings. The dabloon posts started evolving even more. People made "shops" where you could choose how to spend your money, some decided to become theives and would steal others' dabloons. Dabloon-cops started showing up to stop the dabloon-thieves' shenanigans.
Then the inflation happened. People started handing out crazy amounts of dabloons, which led to spiking prizes. Stew would go from 4 dabloons to 20, people became dabloon-millionares from simply one post. The Dabloon President (yes, really) made a call for action to prevent this impending economic crisis. There were restrictions put in place on how many dabloons could be handed out at once, and taxes were introduced. Some people did not like the direction the dabloon-society was going with all these laws and rules. A dabloon-restistance was formed to fight against the dabloon-government.
.... yes there is basically a dabloon-civil-war going on, this all happened within the span of a few hours, shit's wild.
People have also started making dabloon-sonas though, so that's fun!

Your art is so cool!! Can you share you digital art process sometime?
Ask and ye shall receive:
(Also thank you!!😭)
Aight so I have A Few digital art processes due to me being inconsistent and not being able to commit to one thing (I prefer calling it ✨having a creative and curious mind✨ but eh) so my processes are subject to change, but here are my more recent methods of drawing digitally.
First of all, my art software of choice in the last couple of years has been Procreate, with some of my most commonly used brushes being these:
Tumblr media
Spectra is my brush of choice when it comes to sketching, I really like the texture and it has a nice feel when it comes to both size and opacity based on pressure.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Next up is lineart, what brushes I use in this stage goes hand in hand with what type of colouring process I'll use. When it comes to drawings with more flat shading (such as cellshading) I'll usually use Narinder Pencil. Again, nice texture, and I like it for situations where I want thinner lines with less variety in line-thickness.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When I use a colouring and shading process that's more complex/fully rendered of whatever tf you call it, I tend to use the Niko Rull or Eaglehawk (first drawing is the Niko Rull, second is Eaglehawk)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They are also the brushes I use for the actual rendering process of this particular colouring style (yeah guess we're going into to colouring stage now)
I have no idea how to describe my actual process on how I render my drawings lmao sorry I guess?? I kinda just improvise and hope it ends up looking decent haha. As you might be able to guess though, I am HEAVILY inspired by Arcane's art style (that show Awakened something in my istg) so uhhhhh go watch other people's tutorials on how to emulate the Arcane art style or smthn I dunno.
I will say though, the rendering process and the final look of the piece ends up being slightly different depending on which brush I use.
Niko Rull is rectangular as a base shape, and it doesn't really shade that easily on it's own. Because of that it takes a while to make the shading look good (trust the process!!) but I really like the end result (textureeeeee)
Tumblr media
Eaglehawk is easier to blend and shade with (as in it takes a shorter amount of time) which leads to the end result being more smooth
Tumblr media
Back to the drawings that use mainly flat shading! Here I will often use Eaglehawk to add that sweet sweet texture I keep going on about, basically I will just colour the areas that are either darker and/or more saturated (for example the cheeks, nose and ears in the latter case) with what is usually a warmer tone on a layer set to multiply, then I adjust the opacity to my liking.
Tumblr media
Then I'll just cellshade using the Medium Hard Airbrush. I like using a cooler tone like blue often (like I did here in this example) but that changes a lot depending on what I think'll fit the art piece. Draw that on a layer set to multiply and again adjust the opacity to whatever looks good.
In the final stages of the drawing process I'll just add a bunch of filters until it looks good lmao. I am Bad At Colour Theory™, even though I KNOW the theory part of it, I have such a hard time actually using it practically. Basically, making the colour palette look good is HARD so I'll just CHEAT by using layers that's filled with a colour (whatever fits) and set it to like multiply or overlay or something like that and lower the opacity a bunch and BOOM people will think I know what I'm doing. One of my favorite is covering the entire drawing with a layer filled with a light blue colour, set that layer to Difference and lower the opacity to like 5%. The effect is subtle, but I like it.
Also, MORE TEXTURE!! Static texture!! Well, in procreate it's called "Noise" but it basically adds this static like texture to your selected layer. Use it on a layer that's filled with gray, set it to overlay lower the opacity a bunch and it gives this really nice grainy feel to your art. The colour filters I tend to use on all my coloured drawings, but the noise texture I mostly use the art with flat shading.
So yeah, sketching - lineart - colour flats - shading/rendering - add a bunch of filters - finished art piece, nothing really unusual there.
And lastly, some extra things I do:
In the lineart stage, I'll colour the sketch like red or something to differentiate between the sketch and lineart more easily.
I'll also lower the opacity of the sketch layer to help avoid accidentally drawing the lines on the same layer as the sketch (iykyk)
When filling in the flats, I'll first use a deep, saturated red or blue, and when I'm done filling in a section then I'll change the colour in that area to what it's actually supposed to be. This makes it easier to notice if there's a spot you missed to fill in because it'll contrast more!
I tend to prefer lineart that isn't pure black in my illustrations. With thinner lines I'll colour them a dark brown, blue, green etc, while with thicker lines I'll do the same but also lower the opacity slightly so that the colour underneath effects the lines colour as well.
You know how some people draw everything on like 1-3 layers? Yeah I'm the opposite, ONE MILLION LAYERS BABEYYYY you can never have too many!! (actually you can there's a limit but eh)
Sometimes, when I need to come up with a pose, I'll try posing in different ways myself to get ideas. I wont take any reference pics of myself tho because yikes
That's all I can think of for now! There's quite a lot to go into when it comes to art processes and I'm not great at explaining things, so if anyone has any questions just ask! :,)

Hey, I'm new to tumblr so sorry if the answer's obvious, but why are you so against reposts? Isn't that a big part of tumblr? I mean there's a button for it and everything.
Haha that's because you've gotten the terminology slightly mixed up, my friend ^^
Reposts are not the same as reblogs
Reblogs are the tumblr feature you're thinking of, the one that has a button. And yes, I absolutely appreciate reblogs they're great!
Reposts are when you screenshot or download someones post/artwork and posts it on your own account, often even on other social media. That's what I'm against people doing to my art.
Reblogs are a way to share someones art around while still making it so that the original post gets traction. Reposting something is making a seperate new post. So if a repost of my art gets a bunch of likes and attention, none of that is garanteed to translate into my original post getting in on any of that attention.
I hope that clears it up! It's not that uncommon for people new to tumblr ro mix up the two words so I hope I could help :]

OMG YOUR ART IS SO COOL I LOVE IT😭
Can you explain me how was your process to find your drawing style? And good afternoon 😊
-Layla/stupid mizutsune :D
Tumblr media
Waaah thank you!! :D
Anyway there's been quite a few artstyles that have influenced my own throughout the years, at this point I feel like my current art is a mix of both western and japanese art styles. My first big influence was from when I was around 10 and I was constantly borrowing those How To Draw Anime books from the library lmao (the girls who get it get it).
I started being more active on the internet and in fandoms around age 12, and there's so much art on here that my own style was changing a lot during this time. Basically, whenever I found a drawing or an artist that I liked I would try to copy that style, which led to my own art being a bit inconsistent during this period haha. Which is fine btw, I think it's good for newer artists to experiment with their art.
Some of the main influences during my teens though were from all the art tutorials I found on Youtube and uhhh....... the hamilton fandom...... NOT JUST THat though ya'll know all those bazillion musical animatics on Youtube back in the late 2010s!?!? Yeah those specifically had such an impact on my artstyle lmaoooo (THE GIRLS WHO GET IT GET IT!!!)
In my late teens though I feel like I finally developed more of my own art style..... I mean it's still pretty inconsistent hehe and of course I still take inspiration from other people's styles but there hasn't been any big influences aside from ONE thing! I mentioned it in this ask a couple of weeks ago but the show Arcane has had such a big impact on my art it's not even funny.
Regardless like I said, my current style is a bit of a mix between both western and japanese art (best of both worlds!) that being said I feel like the japanese influences are more obvious in the way I draw comics. Manga have affected me a lot in this aspect (not that ya'll would know that since I haven't really posted any comics on here oops.) I also like having a healthy mix of both semi-realism as well as more cartoony influences. I feel like I would have gravitated more towards realism if it weren't for my love of comics, it's easier to draw comics when you keep it a bit more cartoony.
This is kind of a ramble man idk how to explain these things, hopefully you got something out of this haha 👍

you said in bio not to repost your art does that include reblogs?
Oh no, reblogs are very much appreciated ahaha! 😁
By reposts not being allowed, I mean that I don't want people to like screenshot/download my artwork and post it on their own account or other social media and such. But using the reblog feature here on Tumblr completely fine, ^^

That's.... a lot to take in, I feel overwhelmed and old just by that explanation (I'm not but damm). But it's quite funny how the kind of make a fake society based on such fake currency lmao-
Thank you so much for the explanation, I feel less out of the loop
Haha you're welcome! And yeah, I totally get feeling overwhelmed, there really is so much happening in a very short timespan.
Honestly, I kinda feel similar about the whole Goncharov thing going on here on Tumblr XD I was so focused on the dabloons that I completely missed Tumblr literally inventing an entire fake Scorsese movie and now I'm desperitely trying to get caught up with that!

Op I really liked your oc with the huge ass scarf but wouldn't it be cool if his skill/power or smth was related to it? Like he could make things or people disappear to a small alternate dimension or extension of a space that only he could access (like the suitcase of Newt Scamander in Fantastic Beasts)? Or if it's like the cloak of Dr. Strange that kinda has it's own life? And can like trap or tie stuff up? Or smth? And if it can make itself larger or smth? Idk but it's really cool tho
Ayo Anon that's a cool idea! :O
TBH, while I have the base concept for that character and the world + story he's from mostly figured out, there's still a lot that's currently a work in progress, one of which being the magic system.
Yet again, the base concept I have figured out, but when it comes to indevidual characters' abilities I'm still struggling a bit, so I'll definitely keep your ideas in mind. Thanks for the inspo! :D

Hiiii! Love your au! Okay so what do the Draxum trio think of Shelldon? With Donnie basically being like "yeah I created my first friend because I was lonely". Are they jealous of Shelldon? Do they like him?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They'd actually quite like him. Donnie's brothers are impressed with his tech skills in general, so they'd think it's really cool that he created a robot with such an advanced AI.
They would simultainiously find him kinda annoying tho lol. Shelldon has quite a bit of attitude, not to mention he's currently on the enemy team, so he absolutely has a tendency to get on their nerves. But while the Drax Bros wanna get Donnie away from April (because she's a human) and Splinter (because he's Donnie's "kidnapper") they'd be more than fine with Shelldon joining their side, if only he were willing to do so. They don't view Shelldon as "competition" like they do with April.
Donnie would never admit to his brothers that he created Shelldon out of loneliness, I don't think he'd even admit that to himself lmao. But if the bros were to find out, that would just fit into their already established idea that Donnie's childhood was nothing but tragedy and misery. They would asboluetly get all emotional and overdramatic about it, much to Donnie's annoyance.
.... Well Leo would bully him for being a lonely friendless loser, also much to Donnie's annoyance

Now that we're entering into 2024, I'm asking some artists and writers that I follow:
1) What is the one piece you're most proud of from this past year?
2) What are some pieces that you would have liked more people to see? If you can include links, I'd love to go check them out!
3) What were your top three favorite pieces (art, comics, fics, etc) that someone else has made this past year?
(As always, no pressure to respond! Feel free to just ignore, or let me know if you'd rather I not send you these kinds of asks in the future.)
Oh this is fun! :D
1) The drawing I'm the most proud of this year is actually one I never ended up posting lmao, so I suppose this is the perfect reason to actually do that
Tumblr media
I always feel a bit self-concious about posting non-fanart drawings cuz they don't tend to gain as much attention. Which, I am fully aware that there are more important things than clout! But I am a simple woman, I crave validation 😔 Anyway, I am still very happy about how this one turned out. I very much prefer drawing characters over enviroments, which led to me being way worse at drawing enviroments than characters, so I've been pushing myself for the last couple of years to get better at drawing backgrounds and surroundings. While I still definetily have a lot of room for improvement, this illustration here is the best I've done in drawing enviroments yet.
2) Again, original stuff don't tend to get as much attention (which I fully understand btw, I don't wanna make it seem like I'm complaining too much, I very much appreciate any and all support I get!!!!) but this post with some doodles of my OCs as well as this random drawing of some forest with a big stone head lying in it are a couple of posts I wouldn't mind if more people saw so..... the links are there if ya wanna have a look 👀
3) Oh man, I've seen so many awesome artpieces this year, i can't guarantee that these are my actual top 3 picks, but here are some that I could remember liking (and that I also managed to find lol) (also these are in no particular order
This GIF was the first piece of RotTMNT fanart I ever reblogged and it's still glued to my mind it's just great honestly.
Man I do not like Timothy in the 2012 TMNT series at all but MAN do I love the way pinetreevillain adapted the character for the Rise universe! He's made quite a few comics of Rise!Timothy and he made the character so extremely likable I just hdsjhgjakfga also Pine's artstyle is delicous yummy yum go check out his art now!
I really like those reanimation projects where a bunch of people collaborate and reanimate induvidual segments in their own style, and there was recently one of those released that was a remake of The Clothes Don't Make The Turtle episode from season two of RotTMNT and it's great! Go and watch it here!
