Because I’m someone who’s super lazy, I only got to finish the last few episodes of Guy Mont Spelling Bee this past week, even though it’s been out for months. Anyway, S1E7 had a great lineup, featuring TMNZ S3’s Kura Forrester, recently-announced TMNZ S4 contestant Karen O’Leary, and two comics I hadn’t heard of until this show, Jack Ansett and Jamaine Ross.

Before I get to the point of this post, if you haven’t watched Guy Mont Spelling Bee yet, it’s sincerely one of the best panel shows out there. They really threw the entire rule book out the window, and it’s basically a comedian torture chamber disguised as a spelling and vocabulary competition.

In regards to this episode, I really wish these four were a TM lineup of their own, cause their chemistry here was off the rails hilarious. Karen O’Leary’s confident yet deadpan personality gives me strong confidence in the next TM NZ season, which couldn’t come any sooner. And I have to add the other two to my dream contestants list: Jamaine Ross’ enthusiastic personality sorta reminds me of David Correos (they were next to each other on the previous episode, making this comparison clear) and his presence gives off the vibe of a fanboy that somehow made his way into the contestant’s spot.

I’m attaching this clip of Jack Ansett though, since he made me laugh so hard I found it even more stunning that this was his very first panel show appearance. I won’t be surprised if he gets booked on more shows, since his extremely awkward yet weirdly earnest personality really shone through during this episode. It’s been a while since I’ve seen someone who I didn’t know on a panel show, and thought, “who the fuck is this guy, he’s hilarious.” Maybe this is a sign I need to dive deeper into the NZ panel show circuit?

Mel: Ray's jacket is stitched back together. (showing to the camera) Ray: I always wear a suit. And I'd been warned that it was so so so hot out there doing tasks. And so I'd worn a summer activity version of my suit to keep me cool...My first choice of outfit, I did consider wearing a schoolboy uniform...I had a logo knocked up of the school I went to which was, "The Jeremy Wells' Academy for Hot Young Boys".

Dream contestants for the future? - so tbh I don't have a ton of British dream contestants but I'd throw Adam Hills (yes I know I know but he'd surely do tmuk before tmau) and David Mitchell (again i KNOW but ya girl can dream for NYT or something) I'd also love to see some drag queens show up at some point. - I can give you a few NZ comics now that the tmnz s4 cast has just been revealed and there's some people that I'd love to go on. Jono Pryor. Hayley Sproull. Simone Nathan (prob never gonna happen but omg can u imagine). Maria Williams (also unlikely but i'd fuckin' love it). Audrey Porne. Tim Batt. Jamaine Ross.
