First time watching ToH S2E5 (Through the Looking Glass Ruins). Thoughts below:
Detailed thoughts:
This one’s for the shippers! There were so many cute moments b/w Amity and Luz this episode. The fact that they ended the episode w/ one of them is definitely overshadowing the rest of my thoughts about it. It’s just really sweet to see how much Luz and Amity care about each other at this point that they’re willing to go to such lengths to make sure the other is happy.
Ed and Em have been really supportive of Amity too. Their debut episode really set my opinion against them when they tried to reveal the contents of Amity’s journal as part of their ‘tough love.’ However, since then, Ed and Em have been doing everything they can to help Amity become a more capable and independent person free from her parents’ influence just like them. In that way, I can definitely relate more to the Blight family.
I love that we got another Gus focused episode since he’s rarely in the spotlight. So far, Willow’s gotten at least some focus in four episodes: S1E3 (“I was a Teenage Abomination”), S1E6 (“Hooty’s Moving Hassle”), S1E15 (“Understanding Willow”), and S1E17 (“Wing It Like Witches”), while the only episode that’s focused on Gus has been S1E9 (“Something Ventured, Someone Framed”).
This episode presents us w/ a different character dilemma from the usual, although it’s still a variation on the theme of self-discovery and identity. Here, Gus is questioning his choice of magical focus. His issue isn’t trying to learn a different type of magic or master a new spell, Gus is already talented at illusions, but whether or not he’ll ever be good at using them and if he should just give up on the for a different, more practical, type of magic.
Framed in another way, Gus is faced w/ whether to continue pursuing a career path that he’s skilled at and passionate about in favor of one that wider society views as more practical or useful, a situation that I imagine many creatives find relatable. I certainly do.
In addition to this difficult personal question, Gus also faces a more clear-cut moral question on whether to let the others take the Galdorstones and desecrate the Looking Glass Ruins graveyard. The choice is somewhat easier for Gus since he himself can’t use the Galdortones, but he doesn’t hesitate for a second in preventing Bria and the others from taking them.
We also got a surprising redemption arc for Mattolomule with this episode revealing that Mattolomule’s treatment of others was just a legacy of his time at Glandus High, where bullying others to assert one’s own superiority and dominance over others was expected behavior. Although Mattolomule still treats Gus w/ hostility at the start of the episode, he’s ultimately able to move past that mindset and help Gus strike back at Bria and her clique.
I’m not sure where the plotline w/ Philip Wittebane’s journal, the Echo Mouse, and the portal door will end up going. I can’t imagine they’ll just have Luz create a second portal, especially from a narrative perspective considering that Belos is reconstructing the original one. Perhaps he’ll have to take the Echo Mouse from Luz to activate it?
General thoughts:
Oh, that’s a very different tone for an episode opener.
Man, I’m watching the intro and we sure haven’t seen Nose Girl in a long time. I hope that changes soon.
I love that Gus kept his Bad Girl Coven t-shirt with a bunch of objects from the Human Realm around his room.
Gus must have had King record him that voicemail message recently since he has his broken horn reattached.
Watching Gus’ illusions dissolve was disturbing.
Luz doesn’t have a library card? She needs to borrow Gus’? Is it because she got kicked out w/ Ed and Em last time?
Also Luz keeps visits Amity at the library?
Oh! It’s the head demon hunter! Whelp, he didn’t last long.
So Angmar, Gavin, and Bria are Glandus High students.
Mattholomule’s back? Didn’t expect to see him again. He goes to Glandus now?
Galdorstones?
So are illusionists regularly disrespected by the other covens?
Oh, Forearm Forest! Not Four Arm Forest.
So Mattholomule is in the Potion Coven? Is he really one to talk about the Illusion Coven being useless in a fight?
Looking Glass Ruins?
Skara’s at the library! She may be mean, but she likes to read, just like Boscha.
Philip Wittebane.
Wow, Amity’s got her hair down! She looks so different! I’m guessing her brown roots supports the idea that she dyes her hair to look more like the rest of her family.
Luz is blushing so hard! ^^
Ed and Em are back! Does Em regularly piggyback on her Ed’s shoulders?
“Picking up Amity?” “Nah, looks like you got that covered.” - DAMN! EM JUST KILLED HER!
Amity’s actually library staff?
THEY’RE FACES ARE SO RED!
Aw, Em’s trying to give Luz and Amity some privacy. c:
That skull mouse is cute.
Master librarian Malthus.
THEY’RE SO CUTE TOGETHER OMG! ;v;
Luz’s glyphs are so powerful now!
I’m sure Malthus will understand if they just talked to them.
AMITY WANTS TO GO ON A DATE W/ LUZ IN THE HUMAN WORLD!
Oh, did Mattolomule transfer out of Glandus to Hexside?
By the sounds of it, Bria and the others would still accept Gus even if he was just a witch.
Okay, that butterfly threat was a bit much.
They’re grave robbing?
Shoutout to Gus for respecting the dead and standing his ground.
So Malthus is just a regular person!
OH LUZ AND AMITY. Is that they’re confession to each other or are they still processing things? ;_;
I’m sure if Gus just talked to the Guardian then it’ll all be fine.
The Guardian is an illusion too isn’t it? It’s an illusionist’s graveyard.
Called it! A little late, but called it!
I was wrong about Bria. She’s awful.
Mattolomule redemption arc?
I always had a feeling that illusion spells could be used to cause people some serious mental trauma and here we are. Very spooky!
PURPLE AMITY! AMITY SHINY SPRITE! 1/4096 CHANCE!
PROJECTOR MOUSE! PROJECTOR MOUSE!
So Philip Wittebane made the portal door!
KISS! KISS! KISS! AMITY KISSED HER! OMG!

Meanwhile, Eda is saying what I was thinking. Gus should just interview her. I mean, getting an interview with the most wanted and powerful witch on the Boiling Isles? The teacher would have to give him at least a B for the sheer guts it would take.
Tumblr media
This animated adaptation of Alien is kinda weird, but I sorta like it.
So Eda and King are going to compete for this kid’s attention? Yeah, sounds about right for King and Eda.
Tumblr media
Hah! I thought I saw something on that Roller Ghoster! Boscha was there, which is how she knew Willow and Amity used to be friends. Nice little detail, I can appreciate that.
Tumblr media
Pictured: Amity trying to distract Luz so she doesn’t have to talk about her emotions.
Tumblr media
Welp, I guess all that work was for nothing.
Tumblr media
”Why do all of our dates end up with us getting chased around by giant monsters?” -Amity, probably
Tumblr media
Okay, so that mind fire monster is only after Amity? So either it is the manifestation of Amity trying to burn herself out of Willow’s memories, sort of like her will taking on a life of it’s own and now it’s beyond her control. Or maybe it’s some corrupted form of the Inner Willow also seeking to purge Amity from Willow’s memories?
Tumblr media
I was gonna say something about how Luz’ idea probably wouldn't work, but then I got distracted by this cute image.

It bothers me so hard watching TOH s1e15 when Amity reveals to Willow the truth about why they stopped being friends, and tells her ‘I was too weak to be [your friend]’ like no, you were a child who was forced into an ultimatum by your parents who threatened the livelihood/education of another child. that’s on your parents. they’re to blame. you’re not the weak one. you were a CHILD

First time watching ToH S1E15 (Understanding Willow). Thoughts below:
Detailed thoughts:
OH GOD THIS EPISODE I’M FEELING SO MANY EMOTIONS ;_;
There’s a lot to unpack here and I’m not sure if I’m ready to tackle any of it.
I guess it’s time for another installation of the Psychoanalysis of Amity Blight. This episode really helps tie everything together regarding Amity’s backstory prior to the start of the series. As I feared, Amity comes from an influential family of witches w/ parents that only care about her as much as she reflects the family name.
Amity’s parents reject the idea of her befriending anyone who isn’t magically gifted, forcing her to break up w/ her best friend to her face, AT HER OWN BIRTHDAY PARTY, and forces her to be friends w/ the children of other influential witches that they work with.
It’s almost guaranteed that her parents are the reason why Amity wants to join the EC and why she’s been working so hard to do so. That, and as the youngest, Amity likely spent her entire childhood being compared to Ed and Em, who’re seen by everyone except herself as perfect (Amity says she’s the only one that knows they’re not), trying just as hard to perform as well as them.
Amity doesn’t care about her ‘friends’, Boscha and Skara, since she’s only forced to hang out w/ them bc of her parents trying to tie their family closer together w/ other influential witches.
The only way Amity is able to get by is by acting stoic, putting up walls b/w herself and others to keep herself from “showing weakness”, a defensive measure (or more appropriately, a coping mechanism) that she’s had to adopt due to her parent’s strict rules and her sibling’s off-and-on bullying. Her only solace and place she can express herself is through literature It’s telling that one of her favorite childhood books is Otabin.
Even still, Amity tries to help Willow in any way that doesn’t involve her directly standing up for her (‘encouraging’ her to improve, her abomination complementing her, and going before Willow’s presentation to avoid her getting more homework.
When Luz apologized to Amity at the Covention and saw her demonstrate her glyph magic, Amity was taken aback by the fact that someone like Luz was still trying to connect w/ her even as she kept trying to push her away like she did w/ Willow, and eventually, Luz broke through to her.
I imagine that it’s her perseverance that Amity admires about Luz, seeing Luz commit to her own dreams no matter how many challenges come up, no matter how many times others tell her its impossible. I’m sure Amity wishes she could be as strong as Luz, to be able stand up to her own situation and act for herself, choosing what she wants and not what others want for her. I imagine that’s also the reason why Amity loves Good Witch Azura.
While there’s certainly a lot more to talk about w/ Amity due to how elusive and defensive she can be, this is episode is about understanding Willow, so let’s talk about her.
Confirming what’s been suggested in previous episodes, Willow isn’t from an influential family of witches. Instead, she’s from an ordinary middle-class family w/ two dads that work for a living. Amity’s parents likely tolerated Amity’s friendship w/ her until they could determine Willow’s initial level of magical skill.
Both Amity and Willow attempt to bury their memories, but while Amity still privately regrets her treatment of Willow, Willow resents it. As seen in the first episode w/ the two of them. Inner Willow’s manifestation as a fire monster isn’t as surprising considering that Willow lost control of herself back then too.
While Amity walls herself off from her feelings, Willow lets hers boil over. I can’t fault Willow for that, given that constant bullying by Boscha and Skara bully that Amity let happen in front of her, but I also understand, given her family situation, why Amity never intervened either. Fortunately, it seems that Amity and Willow have learned to confront their own feelings and can find healthier ways of processing their experiences.
General thoughts:
I wish I had magic nail polish! Or magic makeup in general. It would be nice to cast a spell and have all that done for you.
So is Boscha going to become the main antagonist for future Hexside plots? I wonder how her relationship with Amity will change now that Amity is friends w/ Luz.
We got names for the full trio! Amity, Boscha, and Skara.
Is Skara younger than Amity and Boscha? She is shorter than them. Either way, it narrows down the characters’ age range.
Teachers are as useful for resolving fights in the Boiling Isles as they are in the human world.
Ayyo, Willow-focused episode?
Memory photos? First, that’s rad as hell. Second, I have a feeling that we’re going to see Amity and Willow’s backstory through them.
Skara manages to surprise Amity w/ her personal question, breaking Amity’s stoic facade that she keeps up to avoid “showing weakness.”
I change my mind. I no longer like memory photos.
Amity didn’t always have minty hair? Also, first look at Willow’s parents! And she’s got double dads!
What the hell happened b/w them?! How is Amity burning out Willow’s memory of her something she ‘has’ to do? Why does Amity still feel the need to apologize to her?
OH NO OH NO OH NO OH NO
Okay side note I guess, Gus found a new club, Hexside Free Press. Anyway, back to panicking! OH NO NO NO NO
Are we not getting a B plot either? We’re five minutes in and I haven’t seen the setup for one yet.
Thank GOD that Eda’s here.
So we’re getting a mind exploration episode?
Well played on Eda’s part guilting out who damaged Willow’s memories.
Oh! Gus’ interview is the B plot.
Amity looks so unsure taking Luz’s hand ;-;
We’re going to get a lot about Willow and Amity this episode. Already we know Amity spent the holidays at Willow’s, they went to Lake Lacuna (Hole Lake?) to get swimming lessons, and built a fort there together.
Man, Amity is just telling Luz everything about her past w/ Willow! I guess at this point, there isn’t anything to hide.
Willow played hooky? Wait, Willow was going to protect them w/ magic? I thought Amity stopped hanging out w/ Willow after she got her powers and Willow didn’t?
Maybe what Willow meant by their powers coming in is that Amity started getting good at magic while she didn’t.
Amity looks so offended at Luz’s “great bloomer” pun.
Is that photo from Willow’s birthday? That’d explain that scene w/ Skara handing out birthday party invitations at the start of the episode.
Fire monster!
Hooty’s the secret c:
Who will Gus interview, Eda the Owl Lady or the King of Demons?
Boscha was on the Roller Ghoster at the same time as Willow and Amity? I’m guessing they didn’t know each other then if Amity’s trying to keep her old friendship a secret.
Amity’s actually admitting that she messed up! OH SHE’S SMILING AND BLUSHING ;v;
Is Inner Willow the fire monster?
Gus is also a theater kid confirmed.
Amity’s getting really defensive after bringing up that memory again, especially considering how relaxed and open she’s been w/ Luz.
GDI Gus.
Luz is such a quick thinker!
HUG THEY’RE HUGGING SHE’S BLUSHING OMG ;v;
AMITY’S TOTALLY CRUSHING ON LUZ THAT’S WHY SHE WAS PACING AND TALKING TO HERSELF ABOUT HER
Willow’s scary.
OH NO IT’S AMITY’S BIRTHDAY PARTY THERE’S AN EC POSTER SHE KEPT WILLOW FROM GOING TO HER BIRTHDAY PARTY
AMITY’S PARENTS WTF
I KNEW IT AMITY DOESN’T CARE ABOUT HER ‘FRIENDS’
SAME LUZ, SAME ;_;
HOOTY! IT’S ALL COMING UP HOOTY!
“Oh right, I put people in there.”

First time watching ToH S2E2 (Escaping Expulsion). Thoughts below:
Detailed thoughts:
Let’s start off w/ another installation into the psychoanalysis of Amity Blight. With this episode, we finally get to see Amity’s parents and get the full perspective on the Blight family. Amity’s mother, Odalia, is a domineering woman who tries to exert control over everyone around her in order to maintain her family’s wealth and prestige.
Although absent-minded, Amity’s father, Alidor, is as clever and cunning as her wife, as S1E15 (“Understanding Willow”) and the end of this episode makes clear. While Odalia runs the day-to-day business and affairs of the Blights, micromanaging their lives, Alidor keeps a long-term perspective on their family’s goals and is able to reign in her emotions so that she can see it too.
In this environment where any dissent is met by severe punishment inflicted onto her and her friends, it’s unsurprising that Amity grew up to be so timid and meek. At the same time, Amity’s parents also instilled into her a sense of superiority on the basis of her family name and their magical prowess, teaching her to disassociate from the ‘talentless’, to look down upon them, and to train and study as hard as possible to maintain their family prestige.
Although Ed and Em were raised in the same household as Amity, it seems the two managed to find support in each other, rebelling together against their parents’ wishes and covering for each other to avoid getting in trouble.
Given the context of their parental upbringing, the twins probably saw revealing Amity’s journal as acceptable based on their parent’s punishments and necessary to avoid Amity incurring their parent’s wrath and scrutiny on them. It wouldn’t surprise me if their parents ended up separating the twins if they did find out.
Either way, the twin’s actions since their introduction have made it clear that they do care about Amity as their little sister and are willing to support her, especially in finally standing up to their parents, although like most siblings, they’re also willing to tear her down from time to time too.
It was cathartic to watch Amity finally stand up to her parents, the root of so many of her personal issues, in order to protect the person she loves. It’s especially meaningful considering that it’s precisely Luz’s bravery and willingness to protect her friends and family, just like she does this episode for Amity, that Amity loves about her. Amity protects her love in imitation of her love.
I haven’t focused as much on Luz’s character compared to Amity’s over the course of this series, but I think that’s primarily because Luz has been a fairly open and consistent character. Luz is still eccentric, headstrong, and overly enthusiastic as she was when she first came to the Boiling Isles.
Everything we need to know about Luz’s previous life in the human world was told to us in the first episode. By contrast, we’re still learning more about Amity’s background up until this episode since she isn’t as open about herself and her feelings as Luz, who regularly does so, sharing her self-doubts w/ friends (Eda and King) and strangers (Amity after their witch duel) alike.
With that said, Amity and Luz both struggle w/ their own sense of identity and self-value. Luz sees herself as a nobody and clings to the idea of becoming a witch so that she can finally be somebody. Amity, on the other hand, is preoccupied w/ separating herself from what her parents want to be, and what she used to be, in pursuit of becoming the person that she wants to be, to live according to herself, able to make her own choices.
What both Luz and Amity need is the confidence to be themselves, something they can provide for each other.
General thoughts:
“Blight Industries: a Subsidiary of the Abomination Coven” - Three things: 1. The Blights are industrialists; 2. Abomination magic is their specialty; 3. the covens are internally organized as corporations.
The Blights all have their father’s eyes, but while the twins have dark green hair that’s a blend of their parents, Amity’s hair as a kid was brown like her father’s. Amity still has a brown patch, but her hair is now mint green like her mother’s. Is she dyeing it or using magic?
Amity’s mother, Odalia, seems to be the one who runs the show, while her father, Alidor, is the one who actually creates the abominations.
Amity’s mother belongs to the Oracle Coven.
I can already tell Amity’s parents are awful, having their children present for their company. I assume they’re going to try and get Luz out of the picture so they can maintain control over their daughter.
Once again, Eda and Lilith have found their way back into the classroom.
I applaud Eda’s creativity in trying to combine glyphs. While it didn’t work, she certainly has the right idea for Luz’s lesson.
OH! Gus is a big boy now! It’s going to take time to get used to his new voice, but cool!
AMITY BROUGHT LUZ A CAKE! SHE COOKED IT FOR HER!
The Parent Creature Association?
Willow Park! We’ve finally got all three names: Luz Noceda, Willow Park, and Augustus Porter!
I’m w/ Amity’s dad: I wanna know what’s up w/ Bump’s imp’s tail too.
So can oracles communicate through crystal balls?
Amity must have really gone through some parent-induced trauma if she’s so willing to defer to them.
I didn’t expect to see the school guards again!
I love how Luz is always willing to call out others when it comes to her friends.
Oh, does Amity’s mother dominate her father too? Does she try and control all of them?
So bile sacks have different types of magical phlegm that mix together to use combined forms of magic. So does the coven induction rites inhibit the production of these other types of phlegm?
Lily and Hooty! <3
Banned! Again!
Bump has a memory scrapbook? I didn’t pin the man as being so sentimental.
OH HE’S CRYING ;_;
Crow phones!
Luz doesn’t understand what talking to Amity’s mother actually entails. She’s walking her way into a trap.
Francois!
Welp, Eda’s certainly learning new things about glyphs.
Luz’s really going to hand Amity’s mother flowers from her own house?
Cat abomination!
They’re going to kill her, aren’t they.
Yep, they are.
How did Amity’s father create weapons out of abominations? That’s actually really impressive!
God, Willow’s parents really care about her if they’re willing to quit their jobs to teach her. Hopefully they’re self-employed so they can get back to work after her expulsion is lifted.
Oh, Willow’s dad is awesome! I’m sure her other dad is awesome too, but we won’t know for sure until we see more of him.
I love how done Gus sounds w/ Luz getting in trouble again.
Aw, the twins are helping! I get the feeling that they’ve wanted to stick it to their parents for a while now.
These shows are a massive liability considering their weapons can strike into the crowd- what did I say.
“MY LUZ!” ;_;
I love Hooty as Lilith’s hype man.
AMITY BADASS MOMENTS! AMITY STANDING UP FOR HERSELF MOMENTS! AMITY LUZ SHIPPING MOMENTS OMG THE BLUSHING <3
OH! THE HAMMER’S HOLLOW! I had to rewatch that to see what happened!
So Amity’s father is on the same page as her mother, he just steps in when she loses perspective on things.
So Lilith came up w/ the method for combining glyphs, or just the particular one she used?  We saw the the method for combining glyphs on Luz’s chalkboard.
Light, ice, plant, and fire might be the only four glyphs? There must be some advanced combinations to do other forms of magic.
Oh! The Golden Knight! The Abomitons are part of the imperial army now? The Blights are officially government defense contractors?

Told ya so.
Man! Mom and Dad Blight sure are a couple of bastards, aren’t they? They did directly pressure Amity into breaking up with Willow.
Tumblr media
One thing that I find interesting is that not only did Amity gain a better understanding of how her actions had affected and hurt Willow, but Willow (or at least Inner Willow) also gained a better understanding of why Amity did what she did and what drover her to push her away.
Tumblr media
!!!
I thought about this earlier! I was looking at the trees when Luz and Amity first entered Willow’s mindscpae and I was like ”I wonder if those are willow trees?” So I googled, and they weren’t and I was like ”aw, that’s a missed opportunity.
But this tree right here looks like a proper willow tree!
Tumblr media
Ah, I see Gus is a man of good taste, much like me. He too sees the superiority of the character that is Hooty.
Fun Fact: The reason why Hooty is stuck to the door is that he would be too powerful if he could move freely. He could conquer the Boiling Isles in a week and still have time to take the weekend off.
Tumblr media
Aw, this is so cute.
And yeah, it’s understandable that Willow might not be ready to consider Amity a friend right away. But she now understands (I guess you could say she’s an Understanding Willow) why Amity did what she did and maybe once she gets to process it a bit… maybe…
Tumblr media
Gus can not even hope to be able to withstand the GREATNESS of Hooty.
Tumblr media
And that was episode 15!
I loved it. It was great. I might be riding the high right now, because I literally just watched it, but this could very well be my favorite episode so far. There was just so much delicious character development and backstory and stuff.
This’ll be a hard episode to top for sure. Let’s see if The Owl Crew has it in them as we move on to…
(takes a sneak peek at the next episode title)
Oh…
See you guys as soon as I can. Until next time, take care of the planet Earth and remember that anything can happen in space!

It was Inner Willow after all! I had a feeling it was probably her. Alright, so what’s going on here? I’m guessing that maybe Inner Willow took on this monstrous form and attempted to erase all memories of Amity either out of rage or as a defense mechanism. Because while we don’t fully know the circumstances behind it, it’s pretty clear that Amity hurt Willow. Not just now, by burning up her memories, but a long time ago, when they broke up as friends.
Now the Inner Willow is trying to keep Willow from feeling hurt by erasing all of the happy memories and making so that it never happened. Of course, this is not healthy. It’s literally causing damage to Willow’s psyche.
Tumblr media
This Inner Willow, or rather, this corrupted version of her, has been twisted of what is likely years of pent-up anger.  We’ve seen this before with Willow. Remember how she was first introduced back in episode three? When Amity confronted her and teased her, she remained mostly calm and meek. But then, as soon as Amity left, Willow exploded in a fit of anger where she took control of the plants around her. Then she accidentally ensnared Luz and got distracted.
It seems like Willow might be the kind of person who lets her emotions build up within her until they explode outward. And this time, she has finally been pushed too far.
Tumblr media
I still can’t shake the feeling that there’s a bit more going on here. I feel like Amity might not be acting completely out of free will here; like she is being pressured into breaking up with Willow.
She said at the start of the episode that Blights only associate with a select few. not that SHE only associate with a select few. Blights. As in her family. If my theory that the Blights are some kind of nobility and(or high-standing family is true, then this might be either directly caused by her parents (them telling her she can’t associate with Willow because she’s weak) or indirectly (she coming to this conclusion based on how her parents have raised/taught her).
Tumblr media
”After all, out of sight, out of mind.”
Ignore the things that make you feel bad and pretend like they never happened. Not the best way to deal with unpleasant memories and feelings. It’s more likely that you’ll end up bottling them up until they explode.

I have nothing to say here. I just thought this image was funny.
Tumblr media
Insert your own Mirio Togata reference here:___________________________________________.
Also, you just gotta love hoe Luz’ first reaction to finding something weird is to just… poke it. And then slam her face into it.
Tumblr media
Those burning edges make absolutely no sense in a three dimensional space whatsoever, but I really don’t care. They look cool.
Tumblr media
Alright, so destroying the photographs destroyed the memories, but by fixing the memories, you can fully restore them. I kinda figured as much. To be honest, I’m just waiting for something big to happen, you know? This whole ”going into someone’s mind and viewing their memories and also there’s an inner version of the person inside of their mind” thing is giving me flashbacks to A Single Pale Rose.
If you’ve seen Steven Universe, you know exactly what I’m talking about and you’ll understand perfectly why I am not ready for another experience like that.

Pictured: Amity, right as she realizes she accidentally made a pun and then Luz made the same pun, except worse.
Tumblr media
Uh-oh. Is this Inner Willow? Or is this something else? Like the manifestation of Willow’s negative memories and emotions made manifest? Both? None? Something else?

Hey guys, I just had the craziest idea. What if… what if this episode was about looking into Willow’s memories through these convenient memory photographs and seeing all the moments that shaped her to be who she is today, some of them likely being connected to her friendship with Amity? Man, wouldn’t that be crazy?
Tumblr media
I know I should like… comment on the fact that 1) Willow has two dads, and B) Amity used to have brown hair. But, uh… I sorta knew that. Spoilers and all. I try to avoid them, but you can’t always dodge them.
Honestly, I’m more surprised by the fact that by looks of the photo to the right, they celebrate Christmas (or at least a Christmas-like tradition on the Boiling Isles). Dad and Dad even have ugly sweaters. Which, I have an ugly sweater of my own, hold on…
Tumblr media
There we go. Isn’t it hideous? I love it.
Tumblr media
Gosh dang it Amity. Look at what you’ve done. Is Willow gonna have like memory loss now or something? Or are her memories going to catch on fire inside her mind?
Tumblr media
Ohnononono! I meant metaphorically! Not literally catch on fire!
Tumblr media
Amity, you just erased pretty much all of Willow’s core memories. You don’t get to criticize anyone (except yourself) or their house until you find some way to fix this.
Tumblr media
Aha, so we’re going on and adventure in the mindscape!
Tumblr media
Eda is showing off her superior fire magic by roasting Amity like a very guilty marshmallow. Which, let’s face it… Amity kinda deserves it. She REALLY screwed up. Let’s hope she can help fix this.

We carry on now to episode 15. Fifteen is a good number. It’s dividable by both three and five. That’s pretty cool.
Tumblr media
Ugh… So, uh, fun fact about me I guess. I hate long fingernails. I just… have this instinctual disgust towards them, especially those fake fingernails that look like claws.
So this? I hate. This squicks me out. That is one of the things I dislike about Eda’s design. And also Principal Bump’s.
Tumblr media
Oh right, you. Boscha. Of course it’s you.
Tumblr media
Oh hey, it’s Skara. I’ve read your name before in some context.
Skara. That might mean or be a reference to something. It means something along the lines of ”group” or ”flock” in Swedish.
Tumblr media
Why does this title give me major bad vibes? Is this gonna be a sad and emotional episode? Or am I just overreacting?
We know Willow and Amity used to be friends at one point, before they broke up due to Willow’s lack of talent with magic (when it comes to abominations anyway). With the set-up in this little opening scene, it seem like this episode might focus on that maybe? Because Amity has changed quite a bit since she met Luz. She’s less of the bully we saw in episode three, and more of a… not that.
Regardless of what’s going to happen, I’m very interested in finding out. Let’s go.
Tumblr media
Hot dang, I guess all that training to learn that fire spell really paid of, because that was a solid burn right there, Amity.
Also, interesting; Amity said that she’s ”…a Blight. We only associate with a select few.”
That’s VERY interesting. We already knew Amity was well-off. She lives in this big fancy mansion. And now she apparently only associate with a select few. That implies not just that her family is wealthy and of a high status, but that they might possibly be some form of nobility. Or if not nobility, then they’re close enough to it.
Hold on a minute… girl from a rich and influential family… who is introduced as cold and mean… but eventually starts warming up, largely thanks to the influence of the main character, who’s a quirky and energetic girl… holy shit, why haven’t I made a Weiss Schnee reference yet!?

Before I'd realised that I could make a second Tumblr account and put stuff there, I'd created a Word document to write stuff we learned after each episode of TOH, writing either after or during watching them. Stuff like the info we get on Eda's curse, who Lilith is, palismen, covens, Belos, etc etc
I opened it today, and here's some of the highlights on what I wrote in those 11 pages:
S1E03
(I only started writing from here onwards)
I didn't put this in the doc, but on seeing Amity, my thoughts were literally "Ok I hate this girl :I" because the small amount of stuff I'd SEEN about her before watching was from Grom onwards, so I was not prepared for her introduction!!
S1E04
"Eda likes shiny things"
S1E05
"Lilith & Edalith: sisters" Ok I had trouble with their names at first 😅
S1E06
"Stealy owl is called Owlbert"
"Hooty IS the house"
S1E07
"Amity's older siblings :)
Amity's hideaway in the library
Older siblings go too far :("
S1E09
"Bartholomew becomes HAS president" Ok, reviewing this document reminds me that I really had trouble with everyone's names 😐
S1E12
"Eda = most powerful witch in Boneless Isles" AGAIN, the NAMES
S1E13
"Amity talking to herself"
S1E15
Amity's friends: she is "...not impressed w them..."
S1E16
"Luz learns third spell: PLANT"
S1E17
"Amity officially destroys her social life \o/"
S1E19
"boling island"
":/" when referring to Belos
"Amity’s parents in the background‼??!?"
S2E01
"Gold man" when referring to the Golden Guard
"Lily and hooter become friends :)" Ok, THAT name at least, was a typo, not intentional
S2E02
"Gus: witch puberty"
"Odalia (mom) wants to completely eliminate Luz :I"
">.>" when referring to Amity and Luz blushing at each other
"Gold boy followed Luz to the Blight's business"
S2E03
Several lines about King that promptly got crossed out after turning out not to be true
S2E04
"Mum is in a scam o_o"
"FAKE LUZ IS AT HOUSE"
"Next mission: go to library"
S2E05
"Luz has been using gus’ library card to visit amity :O"
"Mathemelow & glandys students"
"Luz spying on amity"
"Malfis"
"Mathemolew"
"Uhhhh okay good to see you, farewell forever!!"
S2E06
"amity stayed home today [...] O-o her embarrassment at facing Luz was stronger than her wanting to get a staff"
"gold boy" again. I knew he was called the golden guard, but I preferred to call him this 😊
"hunter" (that's it, that's the entire line)
S2E07
"luz gets better at flying"
"reine whispers"
S2E08
"hooty eats king"
"hooty can bake"
"reine" again
"amity is smart, cool & classy :)"
"basement reveal"
"MOMENT OF REALISATION"
S2E09
"belos & hunter see each other w/o their masks on" .....This one gives me "highschool love story set in Covid times" vibes because of how I decided to word it.....
"rumaging in eda's basement"
"amity can fly"
S2E10
"creepy luz getting rid of luz's stuff :("
"creepy luz seems nice ;-;"
"watery"
"cubes"
"sees creepy luz D:"
"creepy luz is fish thing"
""strange woman banned from cafe""
"eda dumped her cards in the human realm lol"
"secrets of gravesfield room, they were monitoring the shack O_O"
"badass camila >:D"
