The Eclipse - 2022
(Thailand YouTube)
8/10
Tropes: sinister boarding school, haze the one you love, suspense, high school setting, coming of age
BL does gay Blacklist with a good boy/bad boy pairing (paladin/rogue). Starred First (The Shipper) as Akk & Khaotung (Tonhon Chonlatee) as Aye, plus the side dish pair from FUTS NeoLouis (Neo was shockingly good).
This is a good show with an amazing cast and flawless leads. First & Khaotung gave us a nuanced and multifaceted burgeoning relationship: philosophical (and socio-political) conflict contrasted to moments of empathy; flirtation contrasted to moments of genuine affection. This show has the sophistication of Not Me and balance of Bad Buddy - the best we can expect from GMMTV.
Aye is so damn pushy but with emotions as well a physical affection, he exposes his own vulnerability as a kind of benevolent attack on Akk to instill trust and self-worth and safety. While Akk is scared and closeted. The eye contact with these 2 is beyond eye fucking into something more like eye soul-mating.
The narrative was less about love than it is about courage (and tenderness). Whether that is courage to live or courage to love.
That said, 3/4 of the way through, the pacing started to feel off and I got frustrated with the plot. I don't think this show will hold up to a binge watch, or a rewatch, with twists both too predictable and totally out of no where (in a bad way) and a rushed resolution.
It felt like the first half of this drama rested on Khaotung’s acting and the second half rested on First’s. In both cases, the actors remained entirely in control of the narrative, it’s just that First got shafted by the fact that his section of the story was curtailed.
Despite these few flaws, this is an enjoyable watch, with an ending that features verbal consent and a funny blooper reel. Which I, of course, loved.

BL- BOYS' LOVE:
Series: WHY YOU...Y ME?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In this series I think the writing is on the wall but these are purely my predictions based on watching the first 2 episodes.
First, this series has 3 actors from Love By Chance & it's unsequel A CHANCE TO LOVE in Mean & Plan from both and Meen who played Tul, Tin's asshole manipulating brother in the unsequel in guest roles in Why You...Y Me?
So the two characters above are Maitoh (SAVE SAISAWAT) on the drums and Shogun (SOMJET SAEJANG aka JET) and based on my guess they are slated for possible romance or perhaps a hint of it.
Maitoh is in an unknown band trying to make it and Shogun is the older brother of a fujoshi sister who has promised to help their band.
Shogun is mean asshole type but I'm sensing a heart gold waiting to be revealed.
He finds a kindred spirit in Maitoh who happens to like the same music as Shogun. Shogun seems instantly intrigued by the younger man...but
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We have Green (GUN TIEOSUWAN) who is a part of the band and Maitoh's friend who happens to like Maitoh unknown to Maitoh. Shogun's sister is shipping Maitoh & Green for the success of the band. Shogun inquires about that and Maitoh immediately places Green in the friend zone.
Shogun seems pleased (imo) and returns to his studio to help this newbie band.
I think as Shogun helps this band he will get closer to Maitoh and Green will realize he either has to confess or lose his crush or just be a foil in the Shogun/Maitoh (possible) relationship.
Now I may be wrong but let's see.
Why You...Y ME? Is available on the MCHOICE YOUTUBE channel on Wednesdays.
Another fact the actors playing Maitoh & Green are also playing Tonhon & Chonlatee in BL Series Ai Long Nhai. Though this series isn't showcasing these two....at least not yet.
So will Green fight for Maitoh or lose him to Shogun?

❤ and 💚 plsss 🥰🥰
BELOVED. Thank youuuuu for your ask <3
💚 - What show has the best soundtrack?
worst question possible, worst question imaginable. I can't really pick?! There's itsay because im a skyline fanatic first and a human being second and the overall scoring was! beautiful! I need dramatic scoring. I need swelling of the music. I need. I don't like the Phuket Love score, it's cheesy but the rest of the score makes it up for it. Skyline eats anything else. Shoutout to the OJ chinese version. Sorry BKPP but this one is just !!!!!
Then there's TMS2. It's also kinda fresh in my mind. Although there was not a single moment or piece which was as impactful it was overall solid and consistent and I love listening to it. Seojoon and Jiwoo's duet healed me.
Hand gripping my thigh right now, resisting the urge to be so predictable but also. Atots. Atots soundtrack is sooo underrated. The scoring in some of those scenes, man. When Phupha gets shot. When their hands bump. Sometimes I wonder if the scene was good or they tricked me with the score. And then the on-going wind motif in all the other songs like the karaoke song or laum. and when phupha's version of the opening theme plays when they meet again. AH.
🖤 - What couple deserved a better show than what they got?
Ramking deserved the whole show to be about them. Im sorry. The rest can just become background. IDK.
Also Khaotung and Podd deserved so much better than whatever happened on Tonhon Chonlatee.

BL Drama Asks~
Tagged by @softkuea thank you lovely, and glad to see you on my dash <3
If you had to watch one drama forever which would it be?
Listen, this is going to be predictable but it has to be KinnPorsche. The amount of scenes I already replay constantly. The amount of nuances there are to pick apart.
If you could change the ending of a drama, which would you choose?
I gotta take for the team and choose History: Make our Days Count. Should the title have been a hint? Sure. Were any of us emotionally prepared for that (unnecessary) ending? Nope. And heck, we, and the characters, deserve better.
Name your favourite drama and who your favourite character was.
I’m pretty sure at this point KinnPorsche has taken its throne as my favourite BL of all time. It’s taking Thai BL, and BL in general to an entirely different context and that’s worth applauding. But I’ve never had as much genuine enjoyment from start to end as I did watching KP. As for my favourite character.. that’s tough.. but it’s gotta be Kinn. He had me from “I’m more like my Mum” *kills a guy*.
Name a drama you dropped within a few episodes.
So, I actually do this a fair bit. I like to give most shows a chance, but with the increasing over-saturation in BL, many don’t hold my attention. Some of these include: Don’t Say No (no explanation necessary), Bite Me (I just found it boring, soo much empty space) and Physical Therapy (it just lacked substance)
Name a popular drama you've never watched and why.
Ossan’s Love (either version). I’ve heard the name around a fair bit so I’m kinda just assuming it’s popular. As for why I haven’t watched it, I guess it just skipped over my radar? I don’t know anything about the plot or anything, and haven’t looked into it. That simple I guess.
Name a drama you regret watching.
Tonhon Chonlatee. This one might be controversial… but I didn’t enjoy much at all about this show, I’m not sure how I even finished it.
Name a drama you thought you'd never watch but did and ended up liking it.
I’m just gonna go with a recent one because my memory is too shit for this. Triage. I never watched the trailer, it was never really on my radar, I wasn’t invested in the pairings and I didn’t put it down on my to-watch list. However, upon seeing many users I respect the opinions of recommend this drama, I decided to give it a watch. KinnPorsche had ended and I needed to fill the giant hole it left. Boy, once I started Triage I couldn’t stop watching it, and finished it within 24 hours.
Name a pairing you want to see.
This one’s tough for me… it’s not something I think about often, I take what I’m fed lmao. I’m not sure this 100% counts but, I would love to see First and Gawin in their own series.
Name a pairing you didn't think had any chemistry.
This is probably controversial of me too, but Yeonwoo and Yoohan in Colour Rush. I mean no offence - but this may be due to Hyunjun’s acting for me. While I’m at it, unpopular opinion, I think Yeonwoo and Sehyun had more chemistry. Overall not as big of a fan of this drama as many seem to be.
Name a pairing you've seen in another drama that you like.
I don’t understand this question at all. What does it mean by ‘in another drama’? Therefore I’m just going to skip it lmao.

Tonhon doesn’t know he’s gay because he’s defined the very concept of gay as ‘other’. Gay to Tonhon means ‘not me’. It means ‘not my friends’. It means ‘someone I don’t know and don’t like’.
I mean, this is not a man who engages in self-reflection or introspection or thinks deeply about anything. He’s following his father’s example because, let’s be honest, he’s never had a reason not to in his mind.
Tonhon doesn’t think about how feels about Chon because it would never occur to him to think about it! He doesn’t think about being gay or wanting to touch him because why would he think about that?
It’s also why he overlooks everything about Ai and Ni. Because they’re not Other. They’re his friends and thus they’re not gay. Obviously. He’s so dense because of all that internalized homophobia which has resulted in his othering all gay people as... well, ‘not his friends/himself/people he likes’.
My prediction is that Chon gets outed in the scene from the preview where he kisses a sleeping Ton. Ton flips and Ai and Ni end up outting themselves (might just be Ni outting them with Ai getting upset, possibly) and that’s going to set off an entire lifetime of self-reflection for Ton.
... I can’t wait.

I think I’m gonna watch that one show with a really long name. It seems like a comedy! I’m feel like I’ll love ai and ni (cute names 💕 I’m pretty sure ai is love and ni is you in Chinese) How many episodes is it gonna have? And what’s your thoughts on it so far? I saw mixed reactions from the first episode. And predictions?
lmaoo I’m having the best time answering all these anons who are starting to get into THCT djskhsd - “the show with the really long name” lmao.
Tonhon Chonlatee (the full name of the show) is absolutely 100% a comedy and I said this before but I didn’t expect it to be this funny lmao. I’m just having the best time honestly. I love the dynamic between the characters and I love the humor. Ai and Ni are absolutely iconic and yes, Ai means Love in Chinese but Ni’s name is pronounced “nye” as opposed to “nee” (which would mean You in Chinese) so not quite lol but ohmygosh I love them so much. They’re hilarious.
But also I can see where the mixed reviews are coming from. For one it’s very silly, to a point where it might get a bit annoying? I personally like it but I can see why some ppl would think it’s a bit too much. Another big issue is Ton’s character who is..... very much very deeply flawed lol. He’s borderline homoph*bic and he radiates a ton of toxic masculinity. Which we all know will change at some point but yeah. It’s a bit extreme, especially in ep2. Also he has half a braincell in his body and is generally acting very naive and oblivious. Which I think is the main thing ppl criticize. And I totally get it. But also I still find him interesting and I love Podd and moreover I trust the writers that they will turn it around.
As for the number of episodes - tbh I’m starting to get a bad feeling lol bc the MDL page says 13 episodes but also we’re 2 episodes in and we have already covered about 80% of all the scenes from both trailers lol. Which has me a bit???? I’m hoping and praying that we will still get 13 but..... idk. I’m preparing for the worst...

Predictions for Tonhon Chonlatee:
The absolute 100% antics continue for another episode or two with a few bits of seriousness inbetween.
Then we start to see more serious moments. More of them, more commonly, likely starting with Chon and moving to Tonhon then Ai and Ni.
Somewhere around episode 6-7, we’ll start to see a bit of a flip. More serious, less antics. This is also the point where they’ll start pushing Ton’s emotions with Chon and the beginning of his actual realization/denial of what’s happening.
By episode 9-10, the antics will basically have disappeared/been relegated to moments in the backgrounds. This is when Ton will realize what’s going on truly. We may get some cute, romantic moments in this as well, depending on how this goes. But this is also the Danger Zone.
And by the end we’ll be bawling.

My predictions for THCT’s pacing was a bit off but not super bad! Next episode is DEFINITELY the turn into more serious stuff as well as Ai and Ni’s attempts to get Chon and Ton together. I mean, yes, it’s obvious. But it’s good timing as well.
I am now getting more worried about Amp’s part in everything, though. Yes, she’s the faen fatal. Obviously. But I’m a biiit worried about some more malicious stuff coming from here. Here for it, but worried!
I also really, really hope that Ai and Ni get some slightly more serious scenes. They’ll never have as many as Ton and Chon will, I’m sure, but the scene in the car with their serious faces on was fantastic and I’d love to see these chaotic gay himbos switch their energy a bit.

I predict that Tonhon Chonlatee is going to pull a My Day and slowly grow more serious until we’re all sobbing at the end and I look forward to that SO MUCH.

This Week In BL
Middle of January 2021. (I swear I wasn’t going to another one so soon but then much shizz happened - on screen and off.)
Being a highly subjective assessment of one tiny corner of the interwebs.
Tumblr media
Ongoing Series Thai
Manner of Death Ep 8 - Max acted his little heart out but Tan is still in BIG trouble.
Gen Y Ep 10 - largely confusing and mostly filler.
TharnType 2 Ep 10 - garbage, the deluxe edition, can’t stop watching, someone save me, ep 11 is next. We doomed.
Tonhon Chonlatee Ep 9 - fluffy nugget of nonsensical found-family joy.
Cupid Coach Ep 1 - it’s absolute pants but has an out gay main character & queer friendship group so I’ll probably stick with it a few more eps. (I did watch ALL of So Much In Love AND Friend Forever. So clearly I have no taste.)
Tumblr media
Ongoing Series Not Thai
We Best Love: No. 1 For You Ep 1-2 - unexpected gem out of Taiwan, classic old school yaoi with a stropy uke + pining seme, college set enemies to lovers, worth checking out.
Color Rush Ep 5-6 - continues to be clever, amazing, and wow the rainbow-colored socks right off me. (Follow this Twitter account for updates.)
You Are Ma Boy Ep 1-2 - new from Vietnam’s DGTV, idol meets cafe boy of his dreams, hijinks ensue - fast paced, light, cheerful, serious second lead syndrome, terrible subs but at least it’s up on YouTube.
Tumblr media
Breaking News
Plustor Pronpiphat is leaving GMMTV (Stud in Friend Zone). Very sad to hear about this, since he never got his own BL and he has fantastic chemistry with everyone. Fingers crossed that he goes indie and gets some good rolls, he’s a SUPERB actor. Maybe Wabi Sabi will scoop him up.
Tumblr media
Lazy Subber reported on FB (posting the official statement) that Nadao Bangkok has postponed I Told Sunset About You Part 2 (and fan meeting) indefinitely due to Covid-19.
Tumblr media
Gossip
It’s likely that most previously announced (but not yet filmed) 2021 Thai BLs will be effected/postponed/cancelled as well due to the current rise in cases, lockdown, and political unrest in Thailand. ITSAY is only the beginning I suspect.
Since they have already completed filming, I think we can expect 1000 Stars and Lovely Writer to still air.
Tumblr media
When I did my industry insider predictions at the end of 2020 and pinned all my hopes on Taiwan in 2021 I had no idea it would be this quick.
Stay safe and healthy everyone, and remember be sexy like Yoo Han and wear a mask. Color wheel fan entirely optional.
Tumblr media
2 Moons 3 in danger...
Ben & Earth (PhaWayo) have left Motive (production house): Earth (officially) Sept 2020 and Ben (unofficially via Twitch) Nov 2020.
Joong & Nine (MingKit AKA J9) have intimated they aren’t coming back either.
Pavel & Dome (ForthBeam) are no-comment but no one thinks they’ll renew their contracts. (It’s known that Pavel has serious issues with Motive.)
If 2M3 films it will likely be with a new cast and certainly with a new director. You can read the doggerel here. Don’t forget the former director is supposed to be bringing out Call It What You Want this year, which is rumored to be partly an exposé on what happened on the set of 2M2.
Tumblr media
Upcoming BL master post here. (I never had 2 Moons 3 down as likely to happen, so no surprise here.)
Week Ahead

Soooooooooo
I found this - I admire you while you passionately explain something- trope in A tale of thousand stars ep 5( ep 5 was so uwwuuuuu I just caaant ——)
I think this trope is present in many bl’s
Which trope in ep 5? Sorry there are so many.
Tumblr media
Coming Out?
If you’re talking about the friendship coming out sequence - that was lovely. I thought they handled it well. I have been thinking about how the different Thai series handle coming out in context of story with regards to parents (Dark Blue Kiss) or friends (1k* or Tonhon Chonlatee or Love Sick) or work (SOTUS) as opposed to say Japan or Korea.
Not sure I’ll ever write about it at length though, since I haven’t lived or worked in many of these countries so I don’t have personal cultural experience to draw on.
Tumblr media
I think Vietnam is coming up in this regard, @heretherebedork and I were just discussing it. Because for all the awkwardness of a toddler film industry Vietnam is at least putting queers behind the camera consistently. It makes the lens less voyeuristic and the characters more honest (to my personal experience and queer friendships groups at least).
Tumblr media
I Like You But I Can’t Say It?
This one, highlighted after the tourist date, is more standard romance than BL. Although I can’t have been the only one fingers-crossed hoping against hope that one of them would fandi na the other? Right?
Clever of them not to. It was like them saying:
this is not your standard Bl and
chief is NOT a boy, don’t forget that.
NO SWEET DREAMS FOR YOU!
Tumblr media
Tend My Artful Injury
If you mean the kite flying collapse then I don’t think it actually qualifies as a rep of this trope (or any BL trope). For one, we already got a standard BL execution of Artful Injury after the fight over the tea leaves.
The ending for ep 5 to me smacked more of standard plot drive and tension building. Tian’s collapse was a narrative device, not a trope. Tian’s secrets are in danger of spilling out and the longer he says nothing the more likely they will be revealed, and the more tense we (as watchers) are getting about it.
Also it was a character building exercise to show how Chief is first to respond, always watching and looking out for Tian.
Tumblr media
Predictions
Since this is a 10 ep arc, I think we can expect climax and heart-donor reveal (to chief) in ep 9.
If they are clever, we get a kiss/physical connection and/or admission of romantic interest before that in ep 6-7. So that the ep 9 separation is more profound and heart wrenching (excuse the pun).
Not sure if that’s what you wanted from the question but there it is!
