Sand/Ray/Mew/Top on knowing who you are and what you want (Only Friends ep 3)
I watched the 3rd episode of Only Friends tonight and I have a lot of feelings about how Sand, Ray, Mew and Top represent different aspects of knowing who you are and what you want... So it isn't proper meta but here are some random thoughts :
I really appreciate Ray being unapologetic about being into Sand on some level, even if it isn't romantic, he's so forward about wanting to drive him home, spend time with him, listen to him play and sing, eat the food he cooked ... and sleeping together again obviously, but I think it's how honest he is about wanting to be around Sand that makes it hard for Sand to resist him. And that makes it hurt so much more when Ray just as openly prioritizes someone else (Mew) over Sand.
But even then, I think Ray's earnest feelings are going to be very attractive to Sand. Ray is genuine in his feelings for Sand and doesn't hesitate to pursue him, and maybe Sand is going to wish him to stop being so self-loathing and go for what he loves because he deserves it. I'm not saying it will happen, but I could see a world in which Sand somewhat encourages Ray to go after Mew, especially since he clearly doesn't care much for Top.
What's that about by the way, what's the history between Sand and Top ? I absolutely love Sand scratching his temple while showing his middle finger to Top after they've made eye contact, and Top's immediate reaction to criticize Sand's band being there is a very good way to make it clear to us that they've had beef. They could be ex lovers, but I don't get that vibe actually, I feel like their dislike for each other runs deeper and is probably more meaningful than that.
As an aside, Khaotung/Ray's flirtatious eyes at Sand in this episode are God-tier, he is SO FUCKING GOOD at looking at him through his eyelashes in a way that feels both slightly submissive and in complete control. He's a cute sexy cat and he knows it, and First/Sand is doing such a good job at being slightly disarmed, attracted to him, slightly flirt back but yet playing it cool and holding back from feeding it too much haha. They act like Ray is so excited to see Sand and want to jump on him at all times and Sand is afraid of getting burned but finds Ray to endearing to resist, and it's delicious to watch
I'm talking about these eyes and these smiles and these eyes and smiles (thank you @justme-1723 and @intolove). I'm absolutely not over them.
The way Ray asks Sand if he's going to charge him for their night together somehow feels so different to Boston telling Nick he's updated their relationship to being a regular. Between Ray and Sand, it feels more like an expression of Ray's slight vulnerability, his being used to having to spend money on people for them to stick around, and a reflection of their teasing relationship where their banter is largely based on calling each other jerks.
Plus Ray telling him their night was priceless anyway was such a smooooootth line haha, slightly corny but definitely efficient. Could almost distract you from the fact that he's deflecting on Sand's joke that he should see a therapist.
Sand's comments throughout the episode that Ray should see a therapist remind me of the way I've seen people try to joke around some topics to bring them up to a friend or lover, because they actually thing they need help but aren't in a position to straight up communicate that. Sand is acutely aware that Ray is messed up and that his issues are above his paygrade, and I respect him for that.
Everyone in the friend group is excited when Ray mentions talking to his dad about the pool party being thrown for PR, I assume because that means he might pay for it. No one is excited at Ray picking the band or even seems to know he's that into music as well. Aouch
Top and Mew's silent disco date felt very random in this episode, like there was little context for it except to say that they do go on dates ? It's a good opportunity to show through that dude Beam hitting on Top that Top has actually not engaged with his former hook ups since going out with Mew, but also that he won't outright say he's dating Mew if there is not benefit for him to say so. Mew's reaction is also very telling of the fact that he knows Top's history of sleeping around, can be secure in himself very well and that he won't give in to feeling like he's lucky to have Top's attention.
Edit : maybe this scene is more interesting than I thought, thank you to @chickenstrangers and @ranchthoughts for pointing out here the metaphor of everyone being in different headspaces within the same relationship. Maybe I'd push it even more to say they're not really listening to each other, they think they're dancing to the same beat while they don't actually know what music the other person has in mind.
Though really this scene just feels like it was made to get Top to say "I wanna be a hero but a villain is my role" while Mew looks at him like yes to both
Jennie's boyfriend the bartender is the one to point out Ray's alcohol problem now, I guess you need at least one per episode !
Sand pointing out all the roles he fills for Ray really highlights how lonely Ray is, and how close Sand is to acting like a best friend and even a boyfriend to Ray when they don't know each other that well. And when Ray already has a best friend that he dreams of being boyfriends with.
As Sand identifies all the needs he's tending to for Ray, and how much Ray seems to want someone who is everywhere in his life like a boyfriend contradicts what he says about wanting to be friends only, he's clearly scared both of Ray falling for him and of falling for Ray. Which makes me think he knows he cares too much about people who needs his help, and once again it's really going to hurt when Ray rejects his guidance and makes bad choices for himself
Sand strikes me as the most self aware character of this show, even more than Mew, careful about who he lets in and smart enough to know he should maybe avoid the challenge (where Mew chases it) instead of tempting fate. Not going to be enough though
Mew immediately noticing that Ray is flirting with Sand and encouraging him to go for it is true best friend behavior, even though on the receiving hand it hurts like hell, and I feel for Ray. He does seem touched by how sincere Mew is in wishing him happiness, and that's adorable
Ray is absolutely incapable to hide his annoyance with Top when he's around, and their battle of "we're rich boys who know prestigious bands" is kinda funny
But Ray also respects Mew's autonomy, and does nothing with Boston's provocation to interfere in Mew's relationship with Top. Ray is smart enough not to trust Boston's goading (for now) and to know he's not in a position for Mew to like him that way
Ray presenting driving Sand home instead of waiting for a taxi ride as "saving him" on the same level as Sand preventing Ray to drive drunk is hilarious and a good sign that Ray really doesn't do much for anyone
Especially not without ulterior motives since they end up making out. Their make out also feels more intimate than Nick and Boston who have actually been hooking up for a month or something. The places those faces and those hands go...
They're making out in the same parking lot that Ray called Mew from after he was kicked out of Sand's place and got frustrated he was being put aside for Top. And that's where Mew calls Ray as his second choice after Top to help him, and so Ray drops everything for Mew and doesn't get into Sand's place even though he could. The symmetry of those situations is striking.
The way Ray not only picks up his phone, but fully pushes Sand away and readjusts his clothes properly, like it wasn't happening, like Mew is the legitimate boyfriend and he doesn't want to get caught hooking up with Sand who's just a side piece, hurts more than Ray going to help his friend, and I'm pretty sure Sand feels the same. Ray is showing him what he wants most.
The revelation that Ray and Mew did apparently hook up two years before is very interesting and I don't know if I believe it ? If it's true, it does feel like it was maybe experimentation for Mew and Ray respected that, and that honestly feels pretty realistic and respectable to me ; it's crazy that it's enough to make Top question if Mew is cheating on him, especially given how he is himself surrounded by people from his past and has so far resisted them. Maybe precisely he feels stupid if he's resisting them while Mew isn't, or he's also projecting and thinking that in Mew's shoes he'd use Ray's feelings for him to get some sex on the side
If it isn't real though, I'm curious about if it's just a Photoshop/angle of the picture making it look different, but Boston says he has a video too. He could be lying though, obviously
Interestingly enough, I feel that the couple that was arguably centered at the beginning, Top x Mew, is the least interesting this episode, because on their end everything is basically reaction to other characters. What they're doing and what they will do in the next couple of episodes will largely be consequences of Boston and Nick's actions (dedicated post here)
Meanwhile, Ray and Sand are trying to develop their own thing, on their own terms, aside from the rest of the group, like they've done the previous episodes. But with Sand being roommate with Nick and Top x Mew about to implode because of Boston, they're definitely not going to continue being outside of the main drama. I'm not sure how Ray will handle it and how it will impact his relationship with Sand yet... Looking forward to episode 4 !

We filter in slowly. Given Sleeping Village is a stroll down the block, it’s inevitable I’m on the early side, but the place is already humming with anticipation by the time I walk in. I order a beer and head to an open booth tucked away in back, where I’m greeted one after the other by guys I call friends and co-workers, an agreeable mix of dudes from two generations. We do some bridge-building as they appear, figure out a couple of us have been to the same shows over the decades and not realized it, y’know, the usual time-killing.
As if this table weren’t proof enough, I look up at one point and note who’s loitering around the bar area: Though a modest youthfulish contingent exists, tonight’s a veritable Post-Punk Dads’ Prom, which in March of 2022 indicates one of two things — and since Wet Leg already came through at the beginning of the month, it could only mean we’re here to see Yard Act play the final date of their first U.S. tour.
Evidently, nothing unites Former Cool Guys on a drizzly night out like a little “angular” guitar and a chatty Loiner with a chip on his shoulder. In a year that would turn out to be studded with top-tier post-punk throwbacks, Yard Act are already ahead of the pack at this point with The Overload’s January release. Coming off a string of Rough Trade-endorsed singles, an EP and a full-length establishing James Smith’s wry, politically minded verbosity over the complementary supporting trio of Ryan Needham’s bass, Jay Russell’s drums and Sam Shjipstone’s guitar, the band is confident rolling into their final stateside set. Just a few days before, they’d played Fallon and announced their arrival to whatever audience still cares about late night TV. I have no idea who that is because I haven’t had cable since 2008 and can’t think of anyone else who does, either, but all the same, it’s sold out.
It comes out in varying degrees depending on the song, but the major takeaway from a live Yard Act set is just how fucking funny they are — more so even than on record. Bands that have decent between-song banter are pretty rare in my experience, usually limited to mumbled thanks or obfuscated in-jokes. Not these guys: Arriving to the stage juiced on whatever the rider offered backstage and clearly fixing to close this tour out in a blaze of minor glory, Smith’s amicable observational prodding immediately endears him to the crowd. Between riffs on deep dish, American candy and overly long, underexplained stories from the road, the band kills, rifling through a grab bag of choons from their limited discography. They’re tight when the music’s going and loose when it’s not. The natural rapport between Needham and Smith is evident as the former keeps the latter — ever more glassy-eyed and garrulous as the set carries on — in check. Years put in with the likes of lesser NME fodder like Post War Glamour Girls and Menace Beach make plain this is not their first rodeo. They can handle us — and do, playing everything everyone wants to hear at just the right levels of volume and sneering, smirking aggression. It’s a thing of beauty. No one leaves unhappy.
I walk home thinking I might’ve just seen my favorite show of the year — and were it not for Yves Tumor the very next night, I’d be correct. I have some spring in my step now, too, and not just on account of the season: I’m about to embark on a massive project at work that got dumped on me the month before and I’m dreading it, but that aside, my personal life slowly feels like it’s crystallizing and I’m having a great week, a great month, fuck, I’m having a great year. How many people can say that in 2022? How many people are riding this kind of high right now? How many people can look up at the sky and feel like the stars are aligned, each one exactly in its right place burning back at them?
It’s hard to be cautious when everything feels like it’s slowly making the sense you always thought was there, but I keep trying to talk myself down from the ledge of this good mood anyway. Still: How real it feels, how unyielding the truth of it seems.

It’s not that I wouldn’t have believed you without seeing it for myself, but there’s something both viscerally funny and viscerally stupid witnessing with your own eyes how we really did fuck it up: Iceland is green and Greenland is ice. That’s what’s running in and out of my head on the second leg of a return journey from Helsinki, where I’ve just been for an extended early August weekend because I’m an idiot who’s wholly incapable of taking a nice, normal, relaxing vacation somewhere with beaches and 500-page books you can read in two nights and big meals wearing bad shirts with bogus floral prints. No, my idea of a good time is winging it in a country where I don’t speak a lick of the language — don’t even pretend to understand how declensions work there, frankly — and all the words on the signs are too long and I don’t like seafood so I’m probably never going to be a good fit for the place even though it may as well be Michigan for how it looks and I realize too late my SIM card doesn’t work but Instagram still does for some dumb reason and what the fuck am I paying T-Mobile, an international conglomerate that recently bought out Sprint and changed my bill but not my capability, all this money for every month, anyway? Why did I have to rely on an old high school acquaintance, who’s really my brother’s friend’s brother, to get around via e-scooter in Estonia? Why can’t I just shut up and take in a scenic mountain or the quiet crash of an ocean view like a normal person?
On this plane, it feels less draining to imagine Iceland and Greenland are called opposite things. That I can handle.
Before I boarded back in Finland, where I managed one last European pint at the airport bar that was alarmingly close to my gate, I sent one of the longest text messages I’ve ever written, one I spent practically the whole summer composing. Through visits to new breweries, a jaunt to Indiana to check out the Bob Ross museum and set a Guinness record applying a new coat to the world’s largest ball of paint, discovering I hate driving Teslas, Wisconsin, wherever, there it sat idling on my phone — fully formed coming out of my dreams every morning, unfinished in new and unique ways every night before bed. I’d read the fragments over and over again, sleeping on hidden arcs and previously unconsidered angles, gradually edging toward some kind of conclusion, if not resolution. You can’t know what happens after you push send, but I’d been here before; I’d sent almost this exact same message before, in fact. A hideous Hail Mary, a prayer to God, the best I can offer. What I had the moment I sent it were my words.
The weekend before I was slated to leave for this trip, I took it upon myself to sneak in some internal reviews for the radio station I’ve been volunteering at as long as I’ve been in Chicago, 15 years, Jesus, who knew I’d last that long in any capacity as an adult? There’s no great mystery to it: An enormous Google spreadsheet lists all the records we’ve imported but don’t have a review and FCC profanity notes on. It sounds silly and it’s invisible work to a listener, but these short blurbs help DJs sound more informed on air and guide them on what (and more importantly, what not) to play, a system founded in college radio and still alive in the select places they still allow for this kind of thing.
I chance upon TV Priest’s My Other People on account of some very hasty notes from whomever imported it, throw it on, let it run for a bit. I leave it through “Slideshow,” through “Bury Me in My Shoes,” both of which I find pleasantly catchy on a cursory listen. I leave it on some more as I catch up on the news. I leave it on so long, in fact, that I finish the record and immediately feel the urge to play it again from the top, something I’d been missing in music for large chunks of 2022. I think to myself after a first run through that, hey, this is pretty good; I think halfway through a second spin, listening much closer now, that, hey, this is really good; and by the time I’m finished with it again, I think this is improbably my favorite album of the year. I check to see when they’re touring next and practically burst out laughing when I see they’re in town at Beat Kitchen down the street the very next night. In less than 48 hours, I’ve gone from never having heard of this band before to enthusiastically walking out the door of their first Chicago tour date.
Here’s a theory I turned over in my mind that weekend: TV Priest is the band everyone thinks Idles is. I don’t mean any disrespect to the latter; they’re a fine band and if that’s your thing, good on you and them both. But there’s an element of gravitas to the London quartet — an almost Morrissey-like flair for the dramatic in Charlie Drinkwater’s soaring-and-roaring baritone, Nic Bueth’s leaden bass and Ed Kelland’s drumwork that may as well be actual anchors, and the tones Alex Sprogis takes with his guitars — that to me feels more weathered, more adult, a brusque tenderness shaved off in Idles’ more pitched punk. (Not for nothing, but I also saw four guys separately walk into Beat Kitchen behind me with Idles shirts on.) It’s a perfect blend of Associates and Fugazi, brutal and beautiful post-punk elegance ensuing from the end of an empire. I must’ve played “House of York” 200 times if I played it once in the days following the show and that one didn’t even make an album. Many are working in this vein right now, but hardly anyone did it better in 2022.
I am thinking that as “Sunland” plays again and the shine of the real thing above off the white expanse below blinds me. Who’d have thought I’d end up directly next to a guy who was also meeting his brother from New York City in Helsinki for the weekend? Incredible odds. Life is funny like that sometimes. A weekend fueled by croissants and a free upgrade to an automatic-equipped Volkswagen Passat and sun, always the fucking sun up there, they weren’t kidding about that, either, there were more than a few times during this trip when I thought maybe I just wouldn’t come back. Fuck a SIM card, anyway. It’s all just reformed elements, it’s all just numbers on numbers, it’s all just someone else’s profit, right? It’s all just some pointless collapsing star.
Slumped toward sunlight with my head against the fuselage watching infinite white topography shimmer as it passes — Greenland is ice, I promise you that really is it, there’s nothing else down there — I’m playing TV Priest on a busted old iPod and making mental preparations to be apart for an unknown period of time again, stuck in a familiar loop with the voices in my head rolling over the same old questions years long from different angles, chewing on emotional errata and heated fragments past, phrasing the most basic mysteries in different ways and pointlessly expecting some kind of clarity to fall from the flaring, to rise from the ice and reveal itself. The self-interrogation never stops: When do I finally stop being so stubborn about everything that matters, stop taking the harder road, stop thinking too much and feeling too much more? Why am I like this, why can’t I ever see the answers until I’ve asked the right questions a fraction too late? Why am I too slow to understand the truth when it’s not explained to me? Why do I bother believing in anything?
I shut my eyes for a moment, the skin of my lids carry a familiar heft. Honestly, I’m tired of thinking and I’m ready to leave all of this; I’ve never been more ready, maybe. The plane never shudders skeptically, but still I’m there in my seat alone in a metal tube suspended 30,000-plus feet in the air hurtling through space, through life, at 500 mph wondering: What if this is it, what if this is all there was? What happens back home, back there, that place I don’t love enough to want to return to but can’t seem to leave? What am I going to do when my words finally, inevitably fall short, when the best I offer is rotting roses and garbled prayer and a Hail Mary read all wrong? And what if I settle for what happens after that, what if this isn’t all there was? What if good enough is good enough?

Okay, I think I want to start listening to Ateez’s other songs now, but this is going to probably be more slow going than the music videos, especially since I have 5 days of work ahead of me, and I probably won’t listen to much during those days.
But I’ll start this post now and update it as I go, for my thoughts on each song.
(Everything above this was written last weekend, everything below, besides thoughts on songs, was written tonight)
This post only contains my thoughts on their first 2 EPs, and it took me all week, because of the MAMA awards and life. It also contains my thoughts on their new music video/song for Paradigm.
I was going to do more, but it got long, because I never shut up, lmao.
Treasure EP.1: All to Zero
Pirate King - I’m just gonna listen to the songs I’ve already heard again, to get a feel for the song itself and learn who sings what, without the visuals distracting me. I don’t have much new to say about this one, other than that I love that Jongho was like that just, right out the gate. I know a lot of it is skill and hard work, but he’s definitely also very gifted. I will say I also love the background beat (? i don’t know music terms, but i think it’s the beat?), that like...certain sound, I can’t explain it, lol.
Treasure - This isn’t my favorite, but it hasn’t nothing to do with the lyrics or the beat or the singing or any of that. It’s more this style of song, it’s just not my cup of tea. It’s a good song, though, they all sound great. I also really like the chorus.
Twilight - San and then Jongho in the opening part were stunning. Actually, every time they both sing the twilight part. Stunning, especially San.I actually really love this one! I didn’t think it was going to be my cup of tea, again, but then San started singing and then the whole thing just came together for me.
Stay - And they lost me a little bit again, lol. It’s not that they sound bad or anything, they’re great. There’s just something about the lyrics that I don’t love, and it’s hard to explain.
My Way - Okay, I don’t know the exact meaning of the song, I’m just going on what I’m interpreting, but is this a song about them/for the fans kind of song? The lyrics are giving me that, so I’m going with that for this. It’s sweet. Not a song I’ll play on repeat, but good. I especially enjoyed the way Hongjoong raps in the beginning.
Favorite from the EP - Twilight   Least Favorite -  Stay
Treasure EP. 2: Zero to One
Hala, Hala (Hearts Awakened, Live Alive) - My thoughts haven’t changed too much since I saw the video, honestly. Still a great song, very hype and intense. Also, realizing that I’m in love with Jongho’s vocals. I mean, obviously, that’s a given, and I’ve been super obvious since the beginning, but still.
Say My Name - I’m going to be quite honest, I don’t know how I feel about this one. Not that it’s bad, or anything. Just, I’m finding it hard to pinpoint if I love it or not. That’s okay though, this happened with a lot of Stray Kids songs as well, and I ended up loving some of them a lot more later on. So, it might just need to grow on me.
Desire - This one was interesting. It almost made me dizzy, it’s hard to explain. But I really liked it. It’s clearly meant to be a sexy song, which is something different, but in a good way.
QUICK BREAK. I spent 2 days watching the MAMA awards, and haven’t really been listening to any new songs. But I watched the Paradigm performance video tonight, and I have thoughts
The styling in this was top tier. Great stuff. They all looked so good.
Stand outs for me were Hongjoong, Jongho, and Yunho (!) which is a big deal, because I was struggling to tell him and Yeosang apart (i don’t know why, i’m so sorry). But he was so good in this video! Also, how tall is he exactly? I’m gonna look it up.
6′1″!! goddamn. I’m so used to the short kings in skz, I don’t know what to do with a whole ass 6 feet, lmao.
Anyways, they all did great, loved it!
OKAY. Back to the older songs.
Light - This is another one that I’m unsure of. Not that I dislike it, more like I’m not sure how I feel? There’s something I really enjoy about the vibe I get from it.It makes me think of something very specific, like....a late night date? Like, standing out on the balcony with someone you’re dating and there’s a party inside, but you guys are so wrapped up in each other, you’re just enjoying the evening together in the moonlight. Look, I said it was specific, lmao. It gives me late night date vibes, basically. But I’m just not sure how often I’d listen to on repeat. Still good though.
Promise - I started realizing something about their songs during this one. I’ll put it down below. But as far as this song goes, I love the energy. It’s very exciting, lol. I’m also realizing how much I love Yunho’s voice, he’s becoming another favorite as well. However, ah, I hate doing this. This is another song I probably wouldn’t listen to much. It’s the lyrics with this one, I’m not a big fan of songs with these kinds of themes, it’s hard to explain. I loved the imagery they used, but it’s the theme of the song that I just don’t love.
Favorite - Gonna surprise myself and say Light, actually. I love the late night date vibes.
Least favorite - Promise
I’ll start with my current favorites and positive thoughts!
I am currently really loving Hongjoong, Jongho, and very recently, Yunho, but, as I mentioned a lot with skz in the beginning, I think all the boys are very skilled and talented. I just have personal tastes and this is how mine are skewed, lol.
I’ve only really loved about a third of the songs, but that’s perfectly okay. I’m still early into this. And there’s always a chance that some songs grow on me later on. I didn’t even realize I loved Maniac by Stray Kids the first time I heard it until I realized it was stuck in my head later on, lol.
And now...not negative, but yea. I have a thought.
Okay, let me see if I can explain this well. I want to start by saying this is just my opinion. I love Ateez already, and I’m still very much excited for this journey, I swear.
But there’s something I’m realizing about the songs, and this is just my thoughts on what I’m seeing in the lyrics, and my thoughts are based on my own personal preferences. But they have a lot of songs that are like, to someone? Not necessarily romantic songs, in a sense, but just...there’s a specific vibe some of the songs I’ve heard so far have, and those kinds of songs just are not my personal cup of tea. Mind you, I still think these boys are talented as hell, I’ve already talked about some of my favorites so far, and I’m still early on here, I could end up loving all 8 just as much as I love all 8 Stray Kids members. And much like with skz, there are going to be songs that I just don’t vibe with, even if a lot of other fans do (I don’t love Get Cool or Star Lost, but I’ve seen fans love them, it happens, we all have our favorites)
I’m only saying this, because if anyone is reading these thoughts as I go on, you’re going to notice that I state that I’m not a big fan of songs like this, if they have more in their other EPs/albums. It’s not that I think these songs are bad or awful or the boys sound bad. Just that they give me a certain vibe or they’re a certain style that I am just not a fan of. It’s hard to fully explain what the vibe is, exactly. Sappy? Soft? Not exactly. But yea, just a disclaimer, I guess.

I can't watch the episode until tomorrow, but how is it for the greens, and Alicent, my beloved???
oh the episode delivered beyond what i could have hoped for. alicent, and kudos to olivia cooke, was on perfect form. i always feel for her but no more so than i did during tonights ep. even people who hate the greens should like the episode imo, it was well written and paced and the acting, especially by alicent, rhaenys, otto, and aemond’s actors was top tier

Hellsite Nostalgia Tour 2023 Day 312
Unhuman Nature
I want to sleep before midnight, so while I have at least one more dw ep to catch up, it’s strictly spn tonight
“Unhuman Nature”
Plot Description: Dean takes an ill Jack on the ride of his life, while Nick is consumed by wicked temptations as he searches for his family’s killer
Would I Survive the First Five Minutes??: I have no connection to nick’s family’s murder…that’s who he’s goin after
The red rays in the stained glass behind Nick as he made his speech to the priest he just killed? For everything this show does good or bad, the imagery sometimes is just top tier
(Megumi came over for attention, and while I went in to kiss her nose, she wanted to give me kisses. The only problem was, she had just come from her food bowl and wasn’t fully done chewing. New cat mom experience unlocked)
Me 🤝 Cas: staring lovingly in a parental way at our respective orphan
Making up info for Jack’s trip to the ER is proving really difficult for the boys. It’s now occurring to me how much they rely on Cas to heal them whenever anything goes wrong
It’s the way Dean was so dead set on being the one who would kill Jack when he inevitably turned evil, and now he’s yelling TO Jack that they’ll be right there through his whole medical procedure ❤️
Nick just got a new target in his revenge plot
Noooooo, Jack needs his powers back now.
Why did you tell Rowena that Jack is SPECIFICALLY Lucifer’s son? The guy who tried to kill her on more than one occasion, who is the cause of death of her own son (um. Also? Did you know that was the final death of Crowley?? I can’t remember if I ranted about it before, but even though it would undercut his heroic sacrifice, I really thought he would come back somehow)
They say nice things about Roro?? Awwww, she does have a heart
Hey Dean? What’s goin on with YOU now?? I don’t like how your vision is goin in and out there
Dude. Nick. I know you got issues, but you got ISSUES
Jack’s bucket list sucks. Well, it doesn’t all suck. Hockey games are fun, but ‘get a parking ticket’? Dream bigger. Catch an arson charge
Does Jack even know HOW to drive? And I’m guessing that’s manual…he’s so adorable though
Nick’s TERRIFYING
Jack is so wise beyond his….year or so of life. Instead of all the grand things he said he wanted to do, he really wanted to drink beer and go fishing with Dean because Dean said that’s something he and John did, and the way he said it signaled to Jack that it was his happiest memory of his father. I’m NOT CRYING. YOU ARE
When did Cas get an upgrade on his car?
Oh. I don’t like that. Like, yes, let’s save Jack with what the shaman Ketch knows gives you, but know the price you’re paying for it. You just wrote a blank check on behalf of the Winchester boys, Castiel. And while I have no doubt they would’ve done the same, you’re gonna feel guilty about it one day
So the cop TECHNICALLY did it but in a “literally possessed by a demon” way…I’m so scared to see what Nick’s gonna do to him. Oh. The hammer again.
I hope this works. I don’t want Jack to goooooo
The glowing eyes was a good sign, I think. No. No. Nooooo. Jack’s worse off now
I can’t believe Nick is potentially about to raise Lucifer from the empty. Are you fucking kidding?? (Though, if this is the way to cure Jack, maybe……)

I kept wishing instead of just directly bringing up Du-shik's problem and let the confrontation scene happens at this episode, Hye-jin would gradually notice there's something seemingly off with Du-shik from earlier episodes and actually started to take signs for it. It can be anything really; like how he has constant nightmares, the tendency of him going to Seoul often, accidentally founding him to be in contact with a therapist, hearing more stories about him from Gongjin people that indicates the fact that right now, Du-shik is in pain and has his personal struggle battling his trauma.
And I'm not talking about how she has spoken about Du-shik telling his story for the first time on ep 10, or how she's telling him outright that she never knows anything about those 5 years phase. I'm talking about real and genuine scenes where she's deep in thought of why Du-shik's becoming more and more stranger the more she thinks about it, and how there are clear signs for it. I was hoping she'd take a serious note of that particular scene of him crying telling her not to leave (idk if she remembers it though), because that could be a start for her to start caring about his whole being and noticing details that may have been left out.
I feel like I want her to be the one that not only take a direct way of confronting him about his hidden scars (when it eventually happens like the ending on this episode), but also the one who more or less knows that he's not fine at the moment, and that it's not because of her, but because he simply needs more time to heal. I guess watching the realization that a person that she always thought as someone who only knows how to help and give warmth to everyone but unfortunately not to himself would be more heartwrenchingly executed for me if only Hye-jin realizes there's just something broken about Du-shik, even in a tiniest bit, before confronting him on episode 13.
Du-shik is healing...but he's taking baby steps throughout the process, and it's (personally) incredibly frustrating that only us audiences knew that. He tells her about his grandpa's death (and the guilt that comes after it), he accepts her confession (which is a pretty huge thing for a man who considers loving someone means to eventually being left by them), to even telling her a brief description of his previous job. It's small steps, but he's gradually opening up, and she has known more than anyone in Gongjin has ever done in the past 3 years. We're seeing all of these from his perspective, and to some extent, I get why some people are frustrated or disappointed at Hye-jin for seemingly forcing someone like Du-shik who has been bottling everything inside for years to open up as if it was that easy to be done. We all know it's NOT, and we all know Hye-jin's not wrong too for feeling upset that she barely knows a thing about the man she's in love with.
That is why I can't stop thinking those what-ifs where Hye-jin's keen enough to notice more, and so she understands more, instead of having Hwa-jeong in the preview telling her that for some people, sharing details about themselves is not an easy thing. Unknowingly I can't help but expecting her to offer the same level of understanding that came from Du-shik so far (guy has top-tier emotional intelligence that he can't stop helping everyone else except himself pls), because I think that's what Du-shik needs at the moment. For someone to just notice and still understands, while walking through with him during the whole process.
I'm not blaming Hye-jin because to be frankly she's been written that way from the start, but I guess having expectations about direction for these two's relationship is also something that most of us do when we're watching shows we love, and whatever's happening on tonight's episode, I'm hoping it wouldn't be something that just straight up forcing Du-shik to expose his deepest fear just because he's afraid someone's going to leave him. I just want to give him time if that's what he needs, and watch him grow & heal from whatever's holding him back (which seems pretty impossible because they're dragging the hell out of this, how nice it'd be if we're gradually shown his backstory from episode 7/8 instead of Kim Seon-ho doing god's work every single episode to tell us through his detailed acting performances there's something seriously going wrong with Du-shik).
But I had to admit I've been pleasantly suprised at how well-paced this show is going though, aside from the dragginess that comes from Du-shik's backstory. I also trusted Shin Ha-eun enough to resolve Du-shik's arc well because this show has been nothing but a great source of joy to me these days. Almost feels like I'm living for it sometimes lol.
Either way, for Hye-jin & Du-shik, just be happy PLEASEEEEEEE.

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERs theres ur warning take it or leave it
bimini winning the mini challenge as she should... truly the brexit humour was god tier and i’m glad she went that route. bimini & tayce also smashed it in the maxi challenge as did a’whora & tia... literally an iconic moment for all four of them. i love love love the way that a’whora took it upon herself to own up to saying not so great things about tia and apologising for it and then them bonding, it was so so nice to see something like that after nothing but shade between them. it’s taken me a little while to warm up to a’whora like her looks were phenomenal but i didn’t really vibe w her personality but she really shined in this episode i think.
all of the runways were pretty good, tia REALLY fucking pulled it out of the bag for that runway and i am so glad she did bc i LOVED her look. if we were going on runway alone i would’ve honestly placed tia in the top. i’m not mad about lawrence winning bc she had the best runway but i honestly think tonight might’ve been bimini’s ep.
side note veronica is kind of grating on my nerves a little bit i understand why people love her but bro she is soooooo defensive.... none of them were coming for u girl u were in the bottom so they suggested u might be going home.... relax pls im begging

MerleFest adds The Avett Brothers, others
Tumblr media
                                              The Avett Brothers
MerleFest,  presented by Window World, has announced new artist additions for MerleFest    2019: The Avett Brothers, Molly Tuttle, and Sean McConnell. The    annual homecoming of musicians and music fans returns to the campus of Wilkes Community College    in Wilkesboro, North     Carolina, in the foothills of the Blue     Ridge Mountains, April 25-28. MerleFest is pleased to welcome    these three distinguished artists to the 2019 lineup:
The Avett    Brothers: The Avett    Brothers first made mainstream waves with their 2009 major label    debut, I and Love and You,    landing at #16 on the Billboard Top 200 and garnering    critical acclaim fromRolling Stone, Paste, New York Times, Los Angeles    Times, andTime. In 2012, The Carpenterhit #4 on    the Billboard Top 200, while People, USA Today, and American    Songwriter lauded the album, the band appearing on Jimmy    Kimmel LIVE! twice in a few months' time. The eighth studio    album, Magpie and the Dandelion, debuted at #5 on the Billboard Top    200 and the band performed on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The    Late Show with David Letterman, and accompanied Chris Cornell for a Pearl Jam tribute on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.
True    Sadness, the record that    followed, achieved The Avett Brothers’ highest career debut to date and    dominated multiple charts. The Rick Rubin produced album hit #1 on Billboard’s Top    Albums Chart, #1 Top Rock Albums Chart, #1 Digital Albums Chart, #3 on    the Billboard Top 200 and scored two GRAMMY nominations.    The Avett Brothers were inducted into the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame    in 2016. 2018 brought the HBO premiere of “May It Last: A Portrait of the    Avett Brothers,” a documentary co-directed by Judd Apatow and Michael    Bonfiglio. Days after this debut, True Sadness launched to    #3 on the iTunes Album Chart and #1 on the Rock Albums chart. In October of    ‘18, The Avett Brothers debuted a new song, “Roses and Sacrifice,” live    on Late Night with Seth Meyers and then released the track    officially in November ‘18, Rolling Stone calling it a    “joyous sing-along.” Also, in November of last year, the band headlined the    Concert for Hurricane Florence Relief in Greenville, North Carolina,    raising $325,000 to help those affected by Hurricane Florence. The    Avett Brothers continue to be revered as one of the top folk-rock acts in    the country and will perform on Sunday at MerleFest.
Molly Tuttle: Molly Tuttle speaks softly. Her voice is both    lilting and lucid, and when she says that she wants to create music that is    truly original and unmistakably hers, her quietness shifts into a steely    audacity that’s charming and almost funny––she’s only 25 after all. But    then you remember her songs and her playing. And it hits you: brash    beautiful originality is exactly what Molly is doing. The 2017 release of    her debut EPRise further introduced Molly to a roots music    audience who had already enthusiastically embraced and elevated her. Her 2017    and 2018 wins for IBMA Guitar Player of the Year were history-making as the    first woman to be nominated for the honor. The accolades kept coming in    2018 when Folk Alliance International’s International Folk Music Awards    awarded her Song of the Year for her song “You Didn’t Call My Name,” and    she was named Instrumentalist of the Year by the Americana Music    Association. With all of this recognition, it might be easy to forget that    Tuttle has yet to release a full-length album. Her eagerly-anticipated debut    album is scheduled to be released in early 2019 on Compass Records. Molly    Tuttle will make her MerleFest debut on Saturday afternoon.
Sean    McConnell: “I think    embracing the blurry lines is a sign of getting older and just having more    life experience,” Sean McConnell says. “It can be healthy to break your own    boxes.” Sean is home in Nashville,    reflecting on the path he’s taken to recording Secondhand Smoke,    his 13th album. A cohesive collection of modern folk music, Secondhand    Smoke asks provocative questions about how we become who we are,    what and whom we love, and the growth, pain, and freedom that come with    accepting that some answers might elude us forever.
Tim McGraw,    Martina McBride, Brad Paisley, Brothers Osborne, and more have all recorded    his songs. Sean earned his first Number 1 single on the country charts in    2018 with Brett Young’s delivery of “Mercy,” which the two co-wrote. As a    performer, he packs listening rooms and quiets unruly bar crowds. His    sound––a warm tenor painting vivid stories over acoustic guitar often cushioned    by keys or other strings––has prompted a diverse range of music scenes from    the storied Boston folk community to Texas’s defiantly self-sovereign camp    to warmly claim Sean as one of their own. “My payoff is just making the    music,” Sean says, then smiles. “Everything else is bonus.” Sean    McConnell performs on Friday at MerleFest.
“We are    extremely excited to be adding these artists to an already stellar lineup    for 2019. They represent the diverse talent that MerleFest is famous for,”    says Ted Hagaman, Festival Director. The three artists    announced today join over 75 artists initially announced in November via Rolling Stone    Country and the    second wave of artists announced last month. Headliners include Wynonna & The Big    Noise, Keb’ Mo’, The Earls of Leicester, Sam Bush, Tyler Childers, Brandi    Carlile, and Peter Rowan and The Free Mexican Air Force with Los    Texmaniacs. The Late Night Jam presented by The Bluegrass Situation will be hosted by Chatham County Line. In addition    to the above mentioned artists, the following will be performing at    MerleFest ‘19:
American    Aquarium, Andy May, Ana Egge & The Sentimentals, AZTEC SUN, Banknotes,    Bob Hill, Cane Mill Road, Carol Rifkin, Carolina Blue, Catfish Keith,    Charles Welch, Dailey & Vincent, David LaMotte, Dirk Powell Band, Donna    the Buffalo, Driftwood, Elephant Sessions, Elizabeth Cook, Ellis Dyson    & The Shambles, Gordie MacKeeman & His Rhythm Boys, Happy Traum,    Irish Mythen, Jack Lawrence, Jeff Little Trio, Jess Morgan, Jim Avett, Jim    Lauderdale, Joe Smothers, Jontavious Willis and Andrew Alli, Junior Brown,    Junior Sisk, Larry Stephenson Band, Laura Boosinger, Lindi Ortega, Mark    Bumgarner, Mark & Maggie O’Connor, Maybe April, Michaela Anne, Mile    Twelve, Mitch Greenhill and String Madness, Nixon, Blevins, & Gage,    Pete & Joan Wernick and FLEXIGRASS, Presley Barker, Professor    Whizzpop!, Radney Foster, Roy Book Binder, Salt & Light, Scythian,    Shane Hennessy, Si Kahn & The Looping Brothers, Steve Poltz, T. Michael    Coleman, The Black Lillies, The Brother Brothers, The Gibson Brothers, The    Harris Brothers, The InterACTive Theatre of Jeff, The Kruger Brothers, The    Local Boys, The Trailblazers, The Waybacks, Todd Albright, Tom Feldmann,    Tony Williamson, Valerie Smith & Liberty Pike, Wayne Henderson, Webb    Wilder, and Yarn.
Additional    performers for MerleFest 2019 will be announced in the coming months. The    lineup and performance schedule are accessible via MerleFest.org/lineup.
Applications for the Chris Austin Songwriting Contest are now    open with entries accepted through Feb. 1. Named after the    one-time sidekick of Ricky Skaggs, the contest remembers Chris Austin, a    renowned singer and instrumentalist. After Austin lost his life in a tragic plane    crash, individuals close to him created CASC to help keep our memory of him    and his music alive. An esteemed contest for aspiring songwriters, CASC is    credited for helping up-and-coming talent gain exposure. Applicants will    have their songs heard by some of Nashville’s    most prominent music industry professionals, including host Jim Lauderdale.    Categories for consideration include bluegrass, general, gospel, and    country. The winners will perform at a showcase during MerleFest on Friday,    and first place winners receive $600 in cash and performance slots during    the festival. Net proceeds from the Chris Austin Songwriting Contest help    support the WCC Chris Austin Memorial Scholarship which has, since its    inception, helped 84 students and awarded over $34,600. For more    information, please click here.
Tickets for    next year’s festival, as well as the Late Night Jam presented by The Bluegrass Situation, may be purchased at www.MerleFest.org or    by calling 1-800-343-7857. MerleFest offers a three-tiered pricing    structure and encourages fans to take advantage of the extended early bird    discount. Early Bird Tier 1 tickets may be purchased until February 17,    2019 and Early Bird Tier 2 tickets will be available February 18 to April    24. Remaining tickets will be sold at the gate during the festival.

Burna Boy: Listen to 10 essential songs by the 'Ye' artist
Burna Boy is finally becoming the life of the party with his music and here is a list of ten of his favourite songs that are essential to the status he currently holds.
Since his entry in the industry in 2011, Burna Boy has released three studio albums and three EPs and one thing that has been consistent with his career is his distinct sound.
There is none like Burna Boy, and it is no exaggeration to list him as one of the most gifted artists of his generation.
Recently, music followers on social media have made several calls for Burna to be accorded the recognition that his talent deserves, especially as the artist continues to take his music beyond our borders with his Life on the Outside tour.
His discography, either on his own songs or features is quite impressive, and mirroring it down to just 10 songs was one hard task, but as an acknowledgment of the good music he has blessed us with, we highlight 10 of Burna Boy's most essential songs.
1. Ye
Nigerians want a new national anthem and Ye is the leading choice to replace the existing one.
A hit when it was released, enjoys steady rotation at music festivals and concerts but has proved to be more popular and garner more online streams with the recent release of Kanye West's eight album with the same title.
Ye is a wave and one that has caught both the young and the old.
2. Heaven's Gate
The Outside album gave birth to a number of hits songs including the fourth single, Heaven's Gate, which features British pop singer, Lily Allen.
Heaven’s Gate’s fast tempo is a departure from Burna Boy’s usual mid-tempo style and has a dancehall vibe that permeates the instrumental and Burna Boy’s vocals as he sings in patois.
Injected with Lilly Allen’s peculiar singing style, it is a fine blend of cockney vibes and Indian rhythm that gives the song a more diverse appeal.
3. Like to party
His 2012 debut album, L.I.F.E was key in building Burna Boy's sound and one of the songs that provided the bricks is 'Like to party'.
This was one of his early songs that drew attention to the brilliance of his music.
4. Don Gorgon
Every super hero needs an alias, and with Don Gorgon, Burna Boy found one that befittingly describes his person and confirmed his versatility as an artist.
Don Gorgon became a fan's favourite immediately it was released.
5. Soke
The Afrobeat inspired joint remains one of Burna boy's biggest single till date.
On Soke, his lyrics are reflective, talking about the state of the nation at the same time hinting at something deeper.
6. Firewood
If there is ever a song with lyrics that paints a picture of lovers seeking sexual gratification, this is it.
Firewood is one hazy tune that is top tier in song craft and execution, with his flow fitted to finnesse.
7. Run my Race
Burna switches things up on 'Run My Race'.
Carried by heavy melody, beats and a sprinkle of Afrobeat, Burna swaggers on this joint as he subtly warns that he is in a lane of his own.
8. Tonight (2012)
Another up-tempo joint, where Burna lightens things up.
What is there not to love in Tonight? This is groovy and fits easily in the play-list on a Friday night.
9. Pree Me
Burna Boy has been caught in many controversies and on this joint, he takes time to address some of them, especially the friends who have become enemies.
''Enemies been on a mission, damn them imma do the most, see them multiply''
This is one of Burna's most personal songs as he allows for an overwhelming of his feelings, even touching on the times he broke the law.
10. Rock your body
This fairly deep cut has got some solid production matched by Burna Boy's flow.
He is on a lover boys' tip as he captivates with his rapid fire style of delivery and intermittent chants.
Rock your body is a joint that envelopes you like a warm hug as it is crafted to perfection.

KIIS-FM’s annual day-long Wango Tango festival at the StubHub Center in Carson, Calif., Saturday (May 13) featured a range of A-list talent, from EDM artist Zedd to Maroon 5, Katy Perry, and the Backstreet Boys, and this year’s concert stood out by offering a number of firsts for many of its performers.
Miley Cyrus performed her newest single, “Malibu,” live for the first time. With the blonde pixie cut reminiscent of her “Wrecking Ball” days grown out to reveal her natural brunette roots, Cyrus donned a simple white top and shorts for her debut live performance of the track off her upcoming album. She also tossed bouquets of flowers and shot streams of water into the crowd as large balloons bounced around the stadium.
After Cyrus’ little sister, Noah, performed earlier in the day, the siblings brought their mom, Tish, onstage with a tiered birthday cake and had the entire 20,000-member crowd sing “Happy Birthday” to her with the help of Labrinth.
Niall Horan announced his first solo album will be out this fall. One night after he released his latest single, “On the Loose,” the solo singer said he had just finished recording his album and took to the stage to perform tracks like “This Town” and “Slow Hands.” While he didn’t perform at the show, fellow former One-Direction bandmate Liam Payne announced an upcoming collaboration with Zedd.
Maroon 5 performed a tribute to Prince by turning the stage lights purple as the band played a cover of the late pop star’s “Let’s Go Crazy.” In their self-proclaimed “14 thousandth time” appearing at the Wango Tango, the group also played a number of their classic hits, from “Harder to Breathe” and “This Love” to “Sugar” and “Moves Like Jagger.”
“Issues” singer Julia Michaels attended her first Wango Tango as a performer.
“Last year, I came here as a fan and now I’m performing,” the 23-year-old said. “It’s so bizarre. I never thought this was going to be my life.”
Aaron Carter made his comeback performance on the Village stage with his first appearance at the event since 2002. Carter released his latest EP, LøVë, in February 2017.
“The EP was inspired by heartbreak. I was in a relationship with somebody who wasn’t proud of me, was ashamed of me, didn’t want to show me off to the world.”
He said that initially, record labels were hesitant when he wanted to get back into music.
“Everyone said, ‘No, Aaron Carter will never make it again’ …So it kind of motivated me to come back out and do my best.”
Machine Gun Kelly brought Hailee Steinfeld back onstage after her own performance for their track, “At My Best,” while Camila Cabello later made an appearance during his set to perform their hit, “Bad Things.” Other collaborations included Zedd and Alessia Cara on their single, “Stay,” as well as Noah Cyrus and Labrinth on “Make Me (Cry).”
Now in its 19th year, the music festival easily filled the entire LA Galaxy stadium, but the crowd wasn’t too young to remember the Backstreet Boys, who returned to the Wango Tango stage for the first time since 2001. They closed the show with impressively synchronized dance moves, matching outfits, and hits such as “Larger Than Life” and “Everybody (Backstreet’s Back).”
Main stage artists included Katy Perry, Maroon 5, Niall Horan, Luis Fonsi, Backstreet Boys, Zedd with Alessia Cara, Machine Gun Kelly, Camila Cabello, Hailee Steinfeld, Noah Cyrus, Halsey, Julia Michaels and Miley Cyrus.
Pre-show Village artists included Noah Cyrus, Jordan Fisher, Aaron Carter, Olivia Holt, Ocean Park Standoff and Hey Violet.
