So, CinemaSins did a video on The Princess and the Frog. I get it is a satirical channel, he’s being nit picky, etc. I get it. I watch his videos on my most favorite movies. TPATF being one of them. But none of them have got me riled up like this one. Here’s a few points he mentioned that made me think that he was more ranting about how he didn’t like the movie and why instead of keeping a subjective and satirical view and actually giving some genuine sins and plot issues.

• The music is bland and forgetful. You won’t remember it after walking out of the theatre. (I find this to be false, personally. The soundtrack to this movie is vastly different than that of Frozen or Tangled, or even the early princess movies. And maybe it’s because I love that type of music...who knows.)

• Music is a rip off of other Disney movies. (Okay, dude. There are two characters who have become frogs, and an alligator who just wants to play a trumpet in a jazz band. If they sing a song about wanting to be human and what they’re going to do, it’s because it’s plot relevant and not ripping off “Human Again” from Beauty and the Beast. They have similar themes and lyrics because, you guessed it, the frogs were once human and they’re trying to become human again, just like the staff who were turned into objects.)

• Keith David is the worst singer of the cast. (He plays the villain, Dr. Facilier. Again, strongly disagree with this. He’s a good singer in my opinion. Better than some of the ones in the Phantom or Les Mis movie.)

• Dr. Facilier is a one dimensional character. (Yeah, we don’t get much of a back story, but he is a wonderful villain. I mean, he’s literally dragged to hell for his death and he kills a character on screen, which is something Disney doesn’t tend to do. There are very little villains who have died on screen. (Those being Frollo, Ursula, and one other I can’t get off the top of my head.) There are also very few villains to kill characters on screen, the most famous being Scar, and I think the hunter who killed Bambi’s mom. What I’m trying to get at is, I love Facilier as a character and that might’ve blinded me on that one.)

• Naveen the playboy ending up with Tiana. (He starts off as an egotistical, self centered, okay boy, jerk who has been given everything he ever wanted in life. He meets Tiana, a hard working waitress, and he goes through, drum roll please....character development! She teaches him what hard work and dedication is and can lead to, and he falls in love with her. He chooses her in the end despite them being frogs, and he works with her in the restaurant.)

There were probably more points that rubbed me the wrong way, but those are the main ones that really bugged me. As I said, I love Jeremy’s channel and love his sense of humor, but this one video struck a nerve. He opened the video claiming he really didn’t like the movie, and that became very prevalent over the video.

I have my personal opinions and views on this video, and some people may agree with me and my counterpoints, while others may not. And that is okay. I’m open to some healthy and respectful debate, but I’m in no way meaning to start some heavy discourse that ends in anon hate messages. From the comments of the video, a lot of people seemed to feel the same way as I do.
