The Worst Witch December Events
Well met, everyone!
It’s that time again where the festive holiday-themed fics are plentiful, and we all come together to collectively ignore canon in favour of being kinder to our favourites. Many of you are probably wondering if anyone’s organising any fun little Worst Witch fandom events, and the answer is yes! Over on the TWW Discord we've come up with two challenges that can be attempted by themselves, or combined - a gift exchange you can sign up for on AO3 via this link, and a December holiday-flavoured prompts list.
Gift Exchange
For the gift exchange, everyone will be secretly assigned a person to write a fic or make art for, matched according to your shared ships. There’s a simple form where you can provide details for what you’re offering as a gift and what you’d like to receive. Be sure to provide as much detail as possible and specify whether you are requesting or offering fic/art, what you are willing to create, and what you’d prefer to receive. For example, “I will write/draw fluff, but will not write/draw anything nsfw”.
When you submit, all fics will be invisible until the final submission date, when they will be revealed anonymously. Try to guess which fandom writer you received! The authors will be revealed on the 25th December.
Fics must be a minimum of 1,000 words (there is no maximum), and art (while subjective) must be of decent image size and quality. Your work must be submitted to the collection on AO3 (linked on this post). To give and receive gifts, you must have an AO3 account. Ships must involve consenting adults only. If you are submitting to the December Prompts, do not add your gift fic/art to that collection until after the authors have been revealed. No AI art or fic is permitted.
While this is for fun, please be serious about having something (relevant to the request given, of course) to submit. It would not be fair for someone to miss out after having put in a lot of hard work and effort on their own submission.
Due dates are as follows:
Sign up is open until 20th November 2023.
Completed work submission is 18th December 2023.
Authors are revealed on the 25th December 2023.

The images below contain a variety of prompts that may be interpreted in any way you choose. How you complete those prompts is entirely up to you - whether it’s doing an entire day’s worth of prompts together, mixing and matching prompts from different days, choosing one prompt from each day, or picking a few that you like and working with them.

Friday Fic Faves
On the Best Wing Discord we recommend a favorite, pre-2023 West Wing story every Friday and today is my turn. I cheated and did a series, because I can't pick just one of the stories - all three are my favorite for various reasons.
Series Title: Time and the Fates of Men
Author: Marguerite
Relationship: Gen, friendship, found family
Word Count: 3 stories, 10k in total
Timeline: post In the Shadow of Two Gunman, Roslyn aftermath, aka Josh is still lying in a hospital bed and everyone is reeling
What's great about this series?: Everything. Marguerite really gets into these characters heads - from Sam doing the morning talk show circuit while waiting for an update on Josh, to Leo herding his senior staff members around the hospital like a herd of bewildered chicks, to Toby wishing he could make Josh's pain go away. It's all lovely and heartbreaking and no matter how many times I re-read I find new lines to adore.
Favorite line: How has this happened, that so few bullets could wound so many people? What's next? Who will fall - if not in a hail of bullets, then in an avalanche of guilt?
Please go read it! It's so good.

Binding time!
Thank you so much to all the writers who participated and submitted fanfic for the first TWW Winter Anthology! It was so much fun to typeset this for you all, and if you missed out on submitting this time, I hope we can do it again in the future.
Below I will share a link to the googledrive where all the files are stored. The formatting should prevent anyone from uploading these to a binding website, but just as a final reminder, it is illegal to profit off fanfic in any way. Please do not use these files to sell commissions or commission others. These are for personal use only, whether binding copies for yourself or as gifts to friends/giveaways.
Now onto the binding! Based on the survey, I’ve created two versions of the document. One for US Letter paper and one for A4, both in folio style, which means you will be folding your paper in half to create booklets.
Instructions: The anthology is posted in two ways. One as the whole file, which you can go ahead and print all at once if you want. These are the files with “aggregate book” in the title for both sizes. It is also separated into separate PDFs for each signature if you would prefer to print them one at a time or if issues arise and you need to more easily reprint any sections. Regardless of how you print, both versions are done in 6 page signatures (24 pages of the book). This means every 6 pieces of paper get folded together. If you are confused, send me a message, I’ll gladly further explain.
To print, in theory, these should all print as landscape and flip on short edge, if you have an automatic duplex printer. If not, you’ll have to do the flipping yourself based on the kind of printer you have. However, not all printers work the same, so I would recommend testing a few pages before you print the full document to make sure your print is being flipped the right direction.
In total, this should use 36 pieces of paper in both sizes. It’s a smaller book but still manageable.
I’ll be making a separate post later this week with resources for those looking for instructions on binding, as well as posting videos on my binding tiktok CreakySpineBindery in case anyone wants to bind along. You can bind these in any style you’d like, but I’ll be doing mine as a Square Back Bradel Bind, which I think is one of the easier methods for beginners.
