so just something i keep thinking about. scully joining the fbi wasn't a rebellion. she says in the pilot that's what her parents think. she talks about distinguishing herself. in ftf she tells mulder she thought she could make a difference in the fbi, but it didn't turn out that way.
the way her parents disapproved, especially ahab, really hurt her. joining the fbi was a real choice she made. she wanted to join, she wanted to do some good & she thought the fbi would let her do it the way she really cares about. and with mulder, she was helping people. she got to see crazy wonderful mind blowing things (and also some horrifying ones). she loves her job!
a big part of her journey through the original run is coming to terms with her choices, that they weren't wrong despite what she's been through & what she's lost. what she should want/what's expected of her vs the reality of what she wants & chose.
i feel like I'm channeling Mulder as i say this, but the bee is a robot right? like, otherwise it's a huge contrived coincidence that the bee stayed on Scully for that long, and that the conspiracy folks were ready for the situation. and there's already precedent of bug robots from the episode War of the Coprophages (which i could only read the transcript for because I'm so fucking phobic of roaches omg) so like. a bee robot makes sense.
I wonder if it was Mulder or Scully that told the screenwriter in Hollywood A.D. about the bee interrupting their almost kiss because obviously one of them had to or it wouldn't have made it into the movie
i think it's fun that both MSR and Sam/Jack (two of the iconic Big Three m/f ships of the 90s) have room in canon for a whole host of 'shippy things happen while stuck in McMurdo infirmary recovering from a big frozen, dangerous ordeal' fics.
i also find it interesting, poetic even, that they tend to focus on opposite 'ends' as it were of a romantic relationship... with Sam/Jack it's a window into the beginning of Feelings (and codependency, yes, but mostly in a sweet way) and for MSR it's a potential time to see Feelings being acknoweldged and find some kind of resolution.
a couple of Pusher studies. the top one was done on a plane in a little under an hour. I've found that doing these sorts of studies during flight is actually great because you don't get distracted by, say, checking tumblr, it helps pass the time and calm down if you're nervous, and you don't get lost in the details/portrait likeness, you only focus on the big picture (color combinations, shapes, light and shadow contract etc)
If we fail to anticipate the unforeseen or expect the unexpected in a universe of infinite possibilities, we may find ourselves at the mercy of anyone or anything that cannot be programmed, categorized or easily referenced. What are we doing up here, Scully? It's hotter than hell.
like. by season 5 this was completely their norm. it started early on, but it probably wasn't their routine.
in detour, it's common enough but ... i wonder if it was usually scully's room & not mulder's. when did he become comfortable enough to "invade" *her space*
because i think @randomfoggytiger was completely right that he wouldn't just show up at her apartment. so it doesn't extend off of cases? (referencing this post)
but scully wasn't too surprised about him showing up at her door in fight the future but it was a shock in small potatoes
