🥺 Is there a certain type of moment or common interaction between your characters that never fails to put you in your feels?

I go ~feral~ for any sort of protective energy, "where are you hurt", i'd burn down the world for you, type energy which we haven't really seen yet in any of my fics but is absolutely my favourite to read. I want my faves to be horrible. 😈 Perhaps in Coven AU.

We all know how you feel about raven reyes - what about Princess Mechanic?

Oooh! Clarke and Raven right? Okay I’m not even gonna lie, I went into the 100 knowing only “there’s a lesbian in the show and her name is Lexa and she dies”. That’s it, that was the context I went into that. So when I met Clarke I had no clue yet.

So…

I 10000% shipped Clarke and Raven first. When Clarke said “Raven… I’d choose you first” GIRL THATS KIND OF GAY. I was definitely rooting for these two.

And then season 2 came on, and Clarke walked into that tent and the whole “you’re the one” happened and I was sold on the clexa train for life.

I kind of see Clarke and Raven as those two exes that stayed really good friends after their break up. Like they had a thing, it didn’t work out, but they still care deeply for one another. If I could ever finish my Star Wars AU 😩 (fuck capitalism for making me work instead of write) you’ll kind of see more of that dynamic between their two characters.

So tldr: it’s cute but missing that special thing? I guess??? Clarke and Lexa are soulmates. And I truly feel like if the show runners hadn’t been cowards and had done the show right, Anya and Raven would have been soulmates too (which is a whole different essay for another time). But Clarke and Raven are definitely exes that still love each other and have grown into a deep friendship.

13. who are your favourite writers?

When it comes to published authors of original works, I love Brent Weeks. The Night Angel trilogy has always been my favourite story and has influenced my own worldbuilding in a myriad of ways.

He just has this way of crafting miniscule details into his world that slowly come into play in massive ways, the way he assembles these lines of dominoes is incredible.

And when it comes to fanfiction writers, which is...the main type of literature I consume, I absolutely adore 'nirav' for their RWBY works, and overall my favourite is probably UnchartedCloud. :)

"I cannot promise to control fate." The statement is less matter of fact than it sounds, carrying the weight of the leader of the known world's voice. "The forces arrayed against us are powerful, and ruthless. They will try to destroy us, and I..." Lexa's eyes drop as her voice falters, and she shakes her head. But when she looks up at Clarke again, there is a redoubled determination there. "I don't know that I can stop them. But with you at my side, I will move the earth itself before I let them divide us."

Clarke's heart feels like it's practically in her throat, but she manages a chuckle anyway. "See, was that so hard? Just promise to move the earth for me, that's all I wanted."

The tension breaks in that moment, and Lexa dips her head as she laughs. "Foolish of me, to not just start there," she says. A small smile remains on her lips as she sobers, and she takes one of Clarke's hands in each of hers.

Double Edged Sword by AngrySapphicHeda: Clarke is a detective in a tiny town, and Lexa is an heiress who moves into the Polic mansion. It only has 6 chapters right now so it’s still at the beginning.

Before The Days by Lilbug: Lexa has some serious PTSD from having been abused by Ontari when she was a prisoner of Azgeda. But she’s back now and has to ya know be the Commander and shit. Has to be tough but Clarke can see through her. Only has two chapters so far but it’s good.

Wanheda Awakens by Non_Euclidean_Feels: Lexa betrays Clarke at the mountain. Clarke does what she has to do to save her people, which ends up awakening the Spirit of Wanheda within her. In this fic, the spirit is very much a real thing and it gives Clarke several superhuman abilities. This fic is ongoing, and in its most recent chapter, it has the Spirt of The Commander of Death meeting the Spirit of The Commander of the Twelve Clans (which obviously is living in Lexa) face to face. Feat. Madi as Clarke’s little wounded wolf buddy.

Clarke Vs. by raccoonhearteyes: Clarke inadvertently has a CIA intersect downloaded into her mind. Lexa and Anya are her CIA handlers.

More Women Than Warriors by steklir (SilentStars): Clarke is new to the private boarding school where Lexa is head girl. Highly recommended.

Only If For A Night by sassymajesty: Clarke and Lexa hook up at a bar and then find out that Clarke is Lexa’s new hire. Only has 2 out of 20 chapters posted so far.

Newsies!anon here. Okay so in my head Lexa is Jack and Clarke is Katherine. I was just listening to the song “I never planned on someone like you” and it made me think of Clarke and Lexa. Also I can’t believe you’ve never seen Newsies! It’s so good! (The Broadway show is at least, I’ve never seen the film) please let me know what you think!

okokokokok, so Tabby and I have gone back and forth on this a bit, because there’s two ways to approach the Newsies!AU. Or so we decided on the subway ride we took the day you sent this, lmao. 

I still haven’t seen any iteration of the Newsies, so I maintain I have no idea what I’m doing. But on we go!

(Tabby maintains she has seen both, thank you very much, so she does know what she’s doing. And wants it to be known that though she enjoys the musical, she has a soft spot for the OG movie. It is known.)

If we’re going straight up personality-wise - looking at these characters as archetypes, rather than at their roles in the plot - Tabby’s of a mind to swap the casting. Jack is a charismatic, light hearted scamp of a leader; his interactions with Katherine are often overtly teasing and transparently flirtatious. (He’s also? Apparently the handsome posterboy of the movement, rather than the brains of the operation? But I think that’s only true in the movie. Idk.) In our heads, these are 100% Clarke characteristics. Contrast that with Katherine, who’s a bit more “please leave me the fuck alone, can’t you see I’m trying to do work” in “I Never Planned on Someone Like You”, which feels a bit more within Lexa’s duty-bound, no nonsense approach to the world. Also, Clarke is an artist ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That being said. If we look at it from a plot-centric perspective, I can see an argument for making Lexa Jack and Clarke Katherine. Lexa is very much a direct-action kind of character: have a problem with a guy? kick him off a tower, problem solved. have a problem with your boss? organize a city-wide strike, no more problem. Whereas Clarke, for her part, tends to use her guile to manipulate appeal to those in power, and get them to take the action she needs them to. Need to make sure your people don’t get massacred? Convince the enemy leader that they’ll appear stronger for not killing all of you. Want the newsies to get paid better? Convince every person in the city their cause is a righteous one, and the owner of the World is a cad. In both cases, they’re characters who are deeply concerned with protecting those who can’t protect themselves, but they approach that mutual goal from very different directions. and truly, who wouldn’t want to see Lexa and her Nightbloods in newsboy caps. 

Besides - half the fun of writing/thinking about/playing around in alternate universes is to imagine how different circumstances would affect our favorite characters. Who’s to say that Lexa, without the burden of a leadership in which showing too much of your hand would get you killed, and with a job in which you (canonically) get more money for being likable/cute/charming, wouldn’t develop some ability for overt flirtation? We could see reason for that, for sure.

Four months after the fall of Mt. Weather, Lexa's hunters catch up to Clarke in the wilderness. Azgeda is on the warpath, and rather than leave Wanheda to their machinations, the Commander has her dragged kicking and biting to Polis for safekeeping. But a city ruled by one's betrayer is a gilded cage at best, and Clarke isn't about to be contained. A week long feast is set to celebrate the royal nuptials of King Lincoln of Polis and Princess Octavia of Arkadia, boasting drinking, dancing, and - of course - jousting. Sir Lexa Woods, the First Knight of Polis, its champion jouster, and its most eligible bachelor, resigns herself once more to several evenings' worth of unrequited invitations from the ladies of the Polis court; Ambassador Clarke Griffin, Crown Prince Bellamy's right-hand advisor, resigns herself to repeated solicitations from Finn Collins, an Arkadian attaché. Though it occurs to them...if they spend the parties with each other, their suitors might be frightened off. It needn't be anything romantic, merely convenient.

But when jealousy starts to surface, Lexa can no longer pretend it's merely convenient.

Fic: Prodigals (Pentilyet, Montilyet family)

This was my pinch hit for @wintersend-exchange, written for @UnchartedCloud, and it was an absolute delight to write. I’ve always loved Josephine-brings-Cassandra-home-with-her-to-Antiva stories, and it was a pleasure to explore the Montilyet family, Antivan culture/food, and Cassandra’s extremely complicated relationship with the concept of family in general.

Josephine and Cassandra travel to Antiva to plan for their wedding. Josephine is delighted to return to her family's home. Cassandra... is terrified.

Prodigals

Unlike Cullen, who spent any time aboard a ship or boat of any size turning various shades of green, Cassandra had never minded ship travel. It was faster than overland travel—a great benefit in her mind; she hated delays and preferred accomplishing her duties as quickly as feasible—and, since she was no sailor, provided her with time to catch up with tasks that might otherwise fall behind: tending to her armor and weapons, catching up on her necessary correspondence, and even, if she was lucky, rereading her favorite books.

It was for this reason, she told herself, for this reason and not because of sheer cravenness, that she was not eager for the journey to Antiva City to come to its conclusion. It was not because she was terrified to meet Josephine’s family, terrified that they would dislike her, terrified that she would somehow ruin everything.

(Cassandra was not a very good liar, not even to herself.)

But of course, with each day the ship brought them closer and closer to their destination. Already the heavily-wooded shores near Wycome had given way to the low brush-covered hills of the Antivan shore, and the silvery-gray waters near Orlais were shading into the truer blue of Rialto Bay.

It was as she was regarding those shores, anxiety gnawing at her gut, that Josephine found her. (As Cassandra had spent most of the journey writing letters and reading, Josephine had whiled away the hours, as far as Cassandra could tell, effortlessly making every member of the crew fall in love with her. Cassandra could hardly complain; she was quite certain that the food that they were served at the captain’s table by night was a cut better than that to which their coin entitled them.)

“Don’t look so worried,” Josephine said. Her hand slid into Cassandra’s, warm and comforting, and Cassandra curled her own fingers around it and squeezed briefly, glad for the reassuring contact. “You have nothing to fear. My family will be just as charmed by you as I am, I promise.”

Cassandra didn’t even ask how Josephine knew so readily what was on her mind. Even when she was doing her best to conceal her emotions, Josephine had always been able to read her with the same alacrity and complete comprehension with which she interpreted diplomatic documents. “I find that highly unlikely,” she said sourly. “You are the first person I have ever known who was mad enough to consider me charming, and furthermore I have no idea whatsoever what I managed to do to convince you of that. Nor do I have any faith that lightning will strike twice.”
