on the topic of exocolonist characterization stuff i like probably one of my absolute faves is this really really small thing from vace.... during his 50 event he asks if u’d wanna go into space one day and no matter what u say he agrees w/u. like if ur like “no way” he goes “yeah me neither im a soldier ill stay” but if u go “yeah!” he goes on and on agreeing its v fun... i really like that aspect of his character

On the way to the Dalish
Oh, it's the dog ! And he needs a name ! This was a tough decision, I was offered perfectly valid and serious names for a fantasy dog, but no, it has to reference something more removed, and which means something to me. The dog's name is Vace, as in the most annoying character that can be befriended in I Was a Teenage Exocolonist, which I did two playthroughs of, guided by another friend (who played DAO), and who sometimes comes to check on the progress we've made. It is a perfect name. This story is now a redemption arc for Vace for being a douchebag in Exocolonist, I'm not finished with you buddy, time to save the world. The psychic damage to my friends ties the whole thing it up. It is a perfect name. Back in Exocolonist, in the first playthrough, I named the pets after Homestuck characters. Because it was fun, but also, again, for the psychic damage. This is what peak intertextuality looks like.
Anyway, we also have a camp, where we can talk to people. Alistair has been hit pretty hard by Duncan's death. Darrian, he can sleep soundly with the knowledge that he won't one day wake up with Duncan stabbing him in the stomach, while whispering he's sorry with a total lack of emotion on his face (there are darkspawn nightmares, instead). But we won't tell that to Alistair, that would be mean. His weird adulation for Duncan, aside, he seems like a solid dude. A bit of a doormat, Darrian isn't going to complain about the human not making decisions without asking him first.
Morrigan's... weird, but funny, when she's not saying the most callous shit out of nowhere. Leliana's... still insane, but nice enough. Sten is not very nice. Also, seriously, the whole family and children killing was a metaphor, right ?

i was tagged by @hotchkiss-and-tell to list my top 5 male characters, thanks Amy 💜! also sorry this took me so long. oops. I’m going to do it as my top 5 ND characters. if i don’t they will all be doctor who, star wars and harry potter characters lmao
1- Frank and Joe Hardy - they are a packaged pair, i don’t make the rules (fun fact these two still make my list even if i don’t limit it to ND characters. I love them that much)
2- Ned Nickerson- listen, i give him crap but i freaking love this precious bean
3- Henry Bolet- Henry deserves the world. my heart aches for him and i just hope he’s doing okay out there yknow?
4- Wade Thornton - idk what it is about him exactly but i freaking love him. he’s a little rough around the edges but you just get the sense that he is the softest man. he’s deadpan funny and he says endearing things like ‘aadios’ (admit it, you can HEAR that)
5- Alexei Markovic- this poor man. he deserves the world and i am sincerely sorry that i broke his vace that one time when i was playing as Bess

so i went ahead and made me a crossover/fandomless space pirate verse where vace just gets around to new galaxies far and wide so he can interact with various non-star wars characters in their own universes. it’d be a bit of fun to meet muses that are far removed from his reality since he wouldn’t know shit about em.

WHAT’S YOUR BIGGEST INSPIRATION WHEN IT COMES TO WRITING : Nothing really inspires me to write, especially as of late. I guess watching movies with good plots and reading Star Wars stuff may make me feel like I should write. I don’t really consider myself a writer so there’s like, nothing profound about it & even the best conditions for writing may still not result in me writing anything lmao
FAVORITE TYPES OF THREADS : Emotional threads, moments when characters are vulnerable are great. This could happen with angst or fluff or romance it really doesn’t matter.
BIGGEST STRUGGLE IN REGARDS TO YOUR CURRENT MUSE : Being a perfectionist rly hinders my writing speed, as I check and check and check over and over and erase things and never post things just because of it. It’s a bad way to be. i have a backlog of shit to do because of this.

FAVOURITE MUSE(S) YOU’VE WRITTEN: Vace is quickly becoming my favorite, but before that there was Sir Seisyll Galahad. He is used in my medieval fantasy group and was sorta my first real successful stab at a carefully layered personality. Love the lil fucker.
WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO TAKE ON YOUR CURRENT MUSE ( THAT YOU ARE POSTING THIS ON ): I don’t know, I think all my tumblr muses stopped being used and I decided eh why not get back into it with this annoying SW idea nagging my brain.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURITE ASPECTS OF YOUR CURRENT MUSE: I think Vace’s histrionic personality is a riot to play. Having to balance between being appealing enough to attract other muses while being an annoying piece of shit is fun. It’s just fun. And sometimes I feel bad that I don’t really have that much shippy stuff like other blogs but then I remember that 9/10 he’s too shallow and antagonistic for anybody to stick to him.
It’s also interesting to me to see how the Empire reflects on people who aren’t necessarily just the bad guy fodder in the movies. Give me that shit. Give me all that shit. I want to see him grow and change??? I want him to mature. I want to see what happens to him months from now! Without having that feeling of “oh no am i getting ooc or is it character development?” because I get that a lot.
I also really like that he’s poc. In space. Like. I’ve had to see nothing but non-poc dominate irl and in the media itself science fiction etc. stuff that I really like? And yet the media doesn’t often give back to me as a poc. It just feels nice to write a science fiction character that is brown and fleshed out, who would definitely be the central character to a piece of fiction should I choose to write one someday. he’s by no means a role-model being a piece of shit and all but hey, plenty of people’s favorite characters aren’t, so what does it matter?
I get to project and explore a lot of themes I wouldn’t normally with other ocs. I get to do a lot of research I would never have done had Vace not been the way he is. I think in ways it’s helped me grow and understand why things are the way they are.
WHAT’S YOUR BIGGEST INSPIRATION WHEN IT COMES TO WRITING: I think reading prose inspires me to write a lot. It helps me think of new things to bring into my writing to make it closer to that fleeting concept of perfection. I love reading about that and lore, and seeing others excited about writing helps me too. Science fiction/high fantasy movies and games helps me a lot too.
FAVOURITE TYPES OF THREADS: Definitely ones that challenge my muse mentally or physically. Emotional stuff, deep stuff, even if unintentional. Stuff where he’s scared, or hurt, or angry. I’m always up for it. Sometimes it takes me longer to get to those replies because I have to think harder on them, but it’s worth it to me. It really is.
BIGGEST STRUGGLE IN REGARDS TO YOUR CURRENT MUSE: I don’t think there’s really anything that pertains specifically to Vace that I struggle with. It’s unfortunate that I’ve not been going in depth with his Force sensitivity, and I’m still thinking about how I could revise it to work for him, especially since that WAS the de facto premise of his design and I’ve moved away from that partially in fear of god-modding/metagaming (ironic, i know). But I don’t know yet. That’s not much of a struggle it’s just an unresolved issue that affects nothing atm.
My real struggle is figuring out how to rp with the mutuals that I want to when I hate having too many threads at once!!!!

BEST TIME TO WRITE: i think better when its night and quiet, i wont have any distractions. i can do so in the day if the same conditions are met. due to my work schedule i usually cant write during the day/afternoon on weekdays.
ARE YOU LIKE YOUR MUSE(S): I HAVE CRIPPLING ANXIETY NO. i like to pretend that im confident and by god it helps and im better than i used to be, but i still struggle with receiving gifts and acts of kindness and believing in myself in most situations. Vace doesnt overthink his situation so it’s easier for him to just DO things always.
