A proposito di serpenti

C'è questa mia amica che ha fatto un viaggio di un anno in Australia, col marito. Il marito ha scritto un libro sul viaggio: Vanderlust. E siccome Australia = animali che vogliono ucciderti perché sì, voglio riportare un passo che riguarda l'avventura di un australiano con i serpenti locali.

E così via, aneddoto dopo aneddoto, arriva a dirci quando è stato morso da qualche serpente. "Mi è successo tre volte" spiega ridendo. Lo guardiamo meglio visto che, stando a quello che dice, dovrebbe essere già morto tre volte, e dunque non potrebbe guidare la macchina come sta facendo. "Ehm... come scusa?" "Sì, le prime due volte è stato un Taipan, e con quello lì hai meno di due ore di tempo prima di tirare le cuoia". A ogni serpente mortale del mondo corrisponde un tempo, trascorso il quale sei storia locale. Serpente che ti ha morso, tempo che ti rimane: una tabella che gli australiani del bush conoscono a memoria. Le prime due volte che è stato morso, Tom, aveva riconosciuto la specie del serpente, perciò era andato serenamente in ospedale a farsi iniettare il siero. Dico serenamente non a caso: è risaputo che, se morsi, bisogna mantenere la calma, perché l'agitazione comporta l'accelerazione del battito cardiaco e dunque la diffusione più rapida del veleno in tutto il corpo, cosa che nessuno di noi vuole che accada. Keep Calm e trova immediatamente un ospedale. E sbrigati! Però niente panico, ok? "La terza volta, - continua Tom - mi ha morso un serpente che non avevo mai visto. Gli ho dato una bastonata e me lo sono portato dietro, fino all'ospedale. Quando sono arrivato gliel'ho consegnato nelle mani e gli ho detto 'Non so che serpente sia, ma è questo bastardo che mi ha morso!'" Lo guardo con più attenzione e stabilisco che dovrebbero prenderlo per il sequel di Crocodile Dundee.

Raga, compratelo e leggetelo, è spettacolare.

Reperaturen sind unvermeidbar

Bereits beim Kauf unseres VW T5 war klar, dass wir früher oder später auch Reperaturen haben werden. Das muss jeder bedenken, wenn er sich einen gebrauchten Lastenesel anschafft. Es ist prinzipiell nicht anders als bei jedem anderen Auto auch.

Car-Garantie

Unser Bus ist Baujahr 2012 und hatte beim Kauf rund 91.000 km auf dem Tacho. Der Gesamteindruck des Fahrzeuges ist vergleichbar bereits da schon sehr gut gewesen. Der Händler hatte uns den Bus mit einer Car-Garantie verkauft. Das bedeutet konkret, dass in der Regel die Arbeitsleistung übernommen wird und bei den Ersatzteilen sogar 50-60%. Das ist Abhängig vom Kilometerstand. Grundsätzlich eine gute Sache, so eine Car-Garantie. Grundsätzlich düfte es in jedemfall ein gutes Zeichen sein, wenn ihr auf einen Händler trefft, der euch eine solche Garantie mit in den Verkaufspreis hineinpackt.

Ein VW T5 ist schon eine Diva

Wir haben uns nichts vorgemacht, denn es war klar, dass sich irgendwan auch der Bedarf ergeben wird etwas in Ordnung bringen zu lassen. Wir stellen nun zwei Sachen fest. Zum einen meldet sich die Öldruck Warnleuchte immer wieder kurz mit einem Piepsen und verschwindet dann wieder. Da alle Flüssigkeiten vor dem Kauf neu gemacht wurden und das Öl tippi toppi ist, könnte es entweder ein Wackelkontakt sein oder es wurde einmal ein falscher Öldrucksensor eingebaut. Außer das es eben nervt, erstmal kein großes Thema.

Beim Einschlagen nach links beim Anfahren klackert es vorne rechts. Das weißt darauf hin, dass das Achsgelenk bald fällig sein dürfte. Im Prinzip auch keine große Sache. Jedenfalls haben wir es angemeldet und einen Termin in der Werkstatt vereinbart. Solche Themen werden hier und da in den nächsten Jahren nunmal auftauchen. Jeder der sich einen gebrauchten VW Bus anschafft sollte das im Kopf haben. Je nach Zustand des Fahrzeuges wird man mehr oder weniger machen müssen um den Bus in einem guten zustand zu halten.

Kosten Nutzen muss stimmen

Solange sich aber Fahrspaß und Unterhaltungskosten einigermaßen im Einklang halten lassen, sollte man sich davon erstmal nicht abschrecken lassen. Gut, wenn man das ein oder andere dann auch mal selbst reparieren kann und gut wenn man gut auf alles achtet was nötig ist, wie bspw. Öl.

Der sehr sympatische Moderator ist übrigens ist ein extrem erfahrener Spezialist, der auch aus Offroad/Allrad Magazinen und Beiträgen bekannt ist. Aber schaut selbst, wenn Ihr mehr dazu erfahren möchtet. In diesem Video geht es auch speziell um ehemalige Post Lieferfahrzeuge und in wie weit diese für ein Camper-Ausbauprojekt geeignet sind. Sein Tipp aus dieser Sendung ist sicher wertvoll - man kann sich prinzipiell Zeit lassen, denn es gibt jedes Jahr unmengen Nachschub von Fahrzeugen durch die Post.

Living in a van for us has only ever been about one thing: adventure.⁣

It’s not about living the dream on a beach somewhere, it’s not about having the most aesthetically pleasing home we could build, it’s about taking that home on wheels out into the big wide world and seeing how far we can push it to its limits.⁣

Our van is a vessel for our photography as we travel around seeking out documentary projects and video opportunities. It’s a place to rest our heads at night before we continue our exploration the next day. It enables us to travel to far flung corners of the countries we visit and encounter locals wherever we go.⁣

Our van to us is so much more than a van; it’s our home, it’s the heart and soul of our adventures, and it’s taught us some valuable lessons along the way.⁣

Whether we’re camped up beside the most serene and peaceful lake or bumping and crashing down a dirt track mountain road praying the suspension doesn’t break she’s there with us, our constant companion. We might be thousands of miles from where we began in a country where we don’t speak the language or broken down by the roadside but we will always have the comfort of our home on wheels to return to standing right there beside us.
