Found out this cruet at an antique mall for 30 bucks and did some research. It is a canary yellow Dewey cruet, released after the victory of Admiral Dewey during the Spanish-Americans war circa 1898. 121 years old! This is a piece of uranium glass! Uranium glass (also known as canary or Vaseline glass) has a distinct yellow or green color. The production of uranium glass began in the 1830s and ended sometime during the Cold War. In most pieces of uranium glass, there’s only a trace amount of uranium. Uranium glass can be identified by it’s signature green or yellow color, and it’s fluorescence under UVA light.

In general, as with all glass collecting, it’s best to be thoughtful and cautious. As I said, there’s generally not enough uranium to be considered dangerous, but ultimately it’s up to you if you feel safe to collect it. For the most part, as long as you don’t ingest or inhale the glass, you should be okay.

I’m no expert, so take all this with a grain of salt! If you want to begin collecting uranium glass, I would begin by doing your own research.
